Great prof. Lots of people don't like her cuz she has an accent & sometimes it's hard to understand what she's saying. But she's really passionate about statistics, and she takes the time to explain until you understand, when you have questions. She's also very accessible by email & replies quickly. Very fair and kind & looks out for her students.

Becky is one of the best statistics instructors. Too bad she's only sessional here. She knows what she's doing and is always upfront with students. A truly dedicated teacher and wants her students to do well and enjoy learning about statistics. It's just a hard subject so people turn to hate their prof but really, she's amazing.

Pros: Fair Grader -Genuinely tries to improve and seeks feedback Very good at practical/applied teaching. Want to learn about data analytics? Take her course! Good notes Cons: Hard final, but was curved so it was fine. Took a few classes to realize that the students didn't have a good fundamental math background. However, she adjusted.

STATS is a really challenging course especially for someone not coming from a math background but Becky was such a great prof. Without a doubt the best stats prof I've met at SFU. She is so caring and you can see she genuinely wants her students to love stats and succeed. The final exam is challenging but she is always accessible for more help.

Contrary to what other students say, I definitely recommend Becky. Her lectures were very helpful and I believe students who didn't watch struggled. She provides practice problems, which really helped with exams. Also, she teaches how to code using R, so make sure you practice using the codes provided in lectures.

For someone who does not have a math background, Becky made Stats easy to understand. I found Becky to be super responsive, passionate, and dedicated to her student's success. Yes, there is a lot of course content, quizzes, and assignments. But this was in benefit to students success. This is definitely a class you should expect to work for your A

If your planning on taking STATS 201/203, take it with Becky! This was my first ever STATS course and I found that Becky made it really easy to understand. She provides a lot of practice which is helpful. The final exam instruction was a bit unclear this FALL 2021 semester, but overall great professor!

Took STATS 201 with Becky and she explained concepts well and made it easy to understand with diagrams/pictures and detailed explanations. Becky warrants a rating because of just how incredible she is as a prof. I took Stats 201 with her and not only did she care about every one of her students and their success, but she makes stats genuinely fun to learn. The work is heavy and the assignments are frequent, but I actually came out as a solid stats user and hope to further pursue stats

AN INCREDIBLE TEACHER! The class was less memorization and more application which is what most classes should be doing. Her teaching ability is very great but her english is very awful ngl. The exams were VERY FAIR and her quizzes were easy. She emails fast. She has practice problems too which helped me the most within this course.

FOR STAT 201: At first I really struggled with the course but Dr. Lin provided me with extensive help and motivated me. She helped me understand the course content when I did not understand. She was very fair and provided extra opportunities to improve our marks. I highly reccomend Dr. Lin, she is knowledgeable and very kind.

I have always been terrible at math, and I was very nervous about taking statistics! Becky was extremely thorough with her lessons and made the material easy to understand. She was always willing to help when I was struggling. It ended up being my favourite course of the sem, and I recommend her to anyone needing to take a Q course!

Dr. Lin really wants you to succeed and it shows. She lets you bring cheat sheets to exams and is very clear on her criteria and expectation. Her lectures are difficult to understand at times, but she has everything you need to know on the slides which makes studying easy. I would definitely recommend if you're willing to work a bit.

Becky is the most caring and helpful prof I have ever had. She repeatedly asks you to come to her for help if you get stuck. She walks you through the solution. Even if you get stuck with coding problems she will personally find the error and fix it and send you fixed code. She *really* wants students to succeed. 6/10 for lecture clarity though.

Ms. Lin is someone very caring, she really wants her students to succeed in her course and if you put the work in, you will be just fine. I enjoyed taking this class with becky. Even though I skipped several lectures, I kept up with the slides and did well on the exams. Her exams were based on the slides and homework assignments so they were fair. She wants you to succeed. If you try in this class, you can easily get an A.

She is very clear on what you need to know for the midterm and final (gives a study guide for each). And she pretty much gives you the answers to the homework assignments. Class average was a B, don't know how people could fail her class.

Becky is a good prof who cares about your success. However, her strong accent makes it really hard to understand lectures and her doodles are hard to follow on the projector. The good part is, her practice midterms and finals are very helpful and oftentimes practically the same on the actual exam. Plus, you get cheat sheets. Overall good prof.

Class was ok. Prof allows you to bring formula sheets for exams which helps a lot. Exams are fair and prof prepares you well for them. Quizzes are easy if you do assignments. The annoying part about this class were the assignments because they involved coding (basic coding, but still annoying). DO PRACTICE EXAMS, it will 100% prepare you for test

Her lectures were paced well, but may have been quick for some. She made up for the speed with how helpful she was after lecture/during OH. Her exams were very fair and easy if you did all the assigned problems.

Dr Lin a great prof overall, although her lectures may be confusing because of her accent she is willing to stay after lectures to fully explain concepts until you understand it. Her office hours are super accessible and she replies to emails with clear responses. The exams are made up of the homework questions and the practice exams she gives.

I improved my grade from a C- to an A- by re-taking this course with Becky. In order to do well in STATS you have to put in the work. Becky gives you ample opportunity to get bonus marks. Pre-read her lecture slides and learn all powerpoint material. Know her assignments as the questions appear for midterm and final / quizzes. She is GREAT.

Provides lots of opportunities to gain bonus marks (but will not round due to so). Lectures are clear and directly related to assignments and exams. Overall she ensures that all students no matter there prior experience can do basic stats without causing too much confusion. Would STRONGLY recommend taking a course with her.

Took it in 2023 Summer term. Exams are similar to Exercises assigned, and detailed solutions are provided. As long as you complete and understand her Exercises, you will get good grades for exams. Her quick respond to emails helps a lot with questions I came up with.

Class was so hard but Becky is such a good prof!!!Her accent makes it difficult sometimes but she simply reads off the lecture slides and explains with examples,not hard to understand.She posts practice qs & tests, and assignments that help with future exams. becky is the actual goat. her lectures are organized + easy to follow and she works step-by-step through examples, her assignments are very clear (she specifically states how to get full marks) and exams are exactly like the class examples, assignments and practice problems. she throws no curveballs and clearly wants to set everyone up for success!

Great professor. Even when I would email her during weekends shed respond ASAP. Content is hard but if you put the right amount of effort youll be fine. Only thing I would wish to be better are the solutions to the practice questions, sometimes hard to understand the way she writes the solutions. Wouldve loved clearer explanations

Becky is a great prof. Admittedly the accent is a bit hard but after a few classes you get used to it. Attendance is not mandatory BUT there are pop quizzes so show up (free 3% boost). She is very caring and wants to see you succeed. As long as you do the homework and make sure to know what each formula means you will do amazing in the class.

Attendance isn't mandatory however, she does pop quizzes that counts as bonus marks and also highlights what's going to be on exams so it is recommended to show up for lectures. Assignments have guides that explains exactly how answers should be like. She clearly cares for her students and listens to advice.

Becky is a really great prof. She gives bonus questions to boost our grades and is always super clear about marking and what's on the tests. She also allows cheatsheets. Becky provided lots of practice problems and was very clear about what would be on the exams. Her exams were achievable enough to get high marks. She's very sweet too! However, during our MT2, she made SEVERAL TYPOS on the exam and didn't even give us time/marks back to compensate for this. Could have screwed up a bunch of students.

While the notes can be dense, Dr. Lin is amazing at responding to questions and concerns outside of her office hours or through email. Her quizzes take material directly from the extra practice problems so make sure to do them. Overall pretty good prof!

Exams are identical to the assignments, she did give a 2% bonus assignment. Provided extra practice problems as well, she does have an accent but if u read the lecture slides and textbook you will be fine and do well.

I loved being part of her class. She is really nice and caring for her students. She wants them to succeed. Although she does have a small accent, you can still understand her. First half of the course was like grade 9 math. Second part of the course was like calculus. However, if you do the practice problems study a lot you'll do fine.

If you are scared of math but you have to take STAT203, take it with Becky. The content was pretty straightforward for the first half of the semester. However, it gradually got more difficult. Becky gives you all the resources to succeed and is always quick to help. She does have an accent, so 2x lecture videos were not an option.

Becky sincerely cares about her students' success. I'm not a math person but had to take the course. She taught from the ground up (re-taught what we should already know from highschool). Also, this class has no homework, but 3 quizzes, 2 midterms and a final. Overall great class, would take again with Dr Lin.

Becky is AMAZING. she is so nice, caring and accessible outside of class. Her grading and assignments are all clear and definitely graded fairly. You do need to put effort in but if you watch the lectures, read her announcements, and do the practice problems you will do great. The class is super resourceful, and you can do everything online too.

As a newcomer to stats, Dr. Lin made the material as easy to understand as possible, with multiple opportunities for bonus marks based on participation. Most caring prof out there. Truly wants students to succeed! She provides so many opportunities for help, gives lots of practice problems, previous midterms, a cheat sheet, etc.That being said, the content itself was hard (I'm not a math head). Took a while to grasp-- she has a heavy accent making her difficult to understand sometimes.

Accent is hard to understand, but she provides you with pre-recorded lecture videos and extra practice, which she sometimes uses as questions in the tests - this is enough to do good on the exams. I suck at math and was scared to take this course after dropping it with swartz (terrible prof), but Becky breaks everything down and the TAs, especially Roxanne are so helpful. Be ready to study hard and consistently go to TA office hours with follow up Qs though.

Dr. Lin is one of the best profs at SFU. Statistics is not an easy subject, but her slides and explanations make it digestible and easy to follow. If you do all the practice problems and homework and review the lectures, you are golden for the midterm and final. I attended a few of her online office hours and she is so caring, and super helpful!

Professor Lin always has the way of making complicated concepts easy to understand. Her classes are well-structured and clearly organized. The exam material is always reasonable, and as long as you carefully complete her practice questions, achieving a high grade is attainable. Overall, she is an excellent and responsible professor.

This class helped me get over my fear of quantitative courses, Professor Lin made everything so easy to understand. She broke down the logic behind the math so you have a better understanding why things happen/work the way they do, rather than just memorizing formulas or instructions. I'm gonna be fr- I did NOT deserve my B- I should've failed the course because I was so dumb and couldn't understand the course material (not math smart at all) but Becky always encouraged me and helped me as much as she could by explaining the concepts to me, and even giving out extra credit to people who simply attended lecture. Many opportunities to get extra credit and uses questions straight from the practice exams (like 30%). You can write anything on the cheat sheet too. She's nice.

Becky is genuinely sweet and such a chill prof, literally my saving grace this semester - and it's my first one. Although the accent is a bit hard to understand, which is coming from someone of the same culture, there are recordings of the lectures going through the slides, and they're just definitely easy enough to understand!

She is a really good prof, gives extra credit. For me, this class was a good GPA booster. If you are taking it online, pace yourself and don't fall behind on the lectures videos. Midterm was fairly easy (average was 73) and final was also fair game if you study (78 average). Clear grading criteria

Becky is a supportive professor who genuinely wants her students to succeed. The course is challenging, but she provides lots of practice problems and sample exams that closely reflect the material. The only drawback was that the final topics felt rushed.

Professor Lin is a good stats prof, like i suck at math and i passed. My one advise would be to study the modules!! Do not leave them for the last minute cuz it will be to difficult to cover all of them a week before your exams and go to her office hours for help. Dr. Becky Lin is one of the most caring instructors I have met in MATH/STAT classes. She wants us to understand the concepts well through assignments, quizzes, and exams. These include endless practice problems and giving assignments in advance. She can also delay assignment due dates if a legitimate reason is given earlier.
