First year teaching and it shows, given some time I dont see why she cannot become better but to this point its no good. Teaches straight from book so just read that or just listen to the lecture but doing both is unnessacary. LOTS OF QUIZES of just 3 questions each but theres 16 of them
She's nice, but doesn't offer much extra credit. She does have 16 quizzes, most are easy. As long as you pay attention, you'll be fine.
Does an inadequate job of explaining macroeconomic materials ie: AD/AS model. Lectures are straight from the book word for word and reviews for exams are not sufficient. My advice: Avoid this professor if at all possible.
This prof. is ridiculous! She will drive you crazy by midterms. Every sentence she must repeat 3 times, I'm not exaggerating. I learned more form the group presentations at the end of the semester than from her teaching. If you are in her class, or considering taking her... DON'T DO IT!
OMG she is ridiculous! She has NO American Culture knowledge (even though shes teaching an AMERICAN ECON CLASS), also repeats every sentence 3 times, words everything really awkwardly (which is really distracting, b/c u spend about 5 mins trying to figure out what shes trying to say) Too many quizzes, tests are semi-hard, presentation, 4 papers...
Very structured class. Take good notes, write down everything she writes on the board and you'll be fine for exams. Test reviews wern't too helpful, butthe key is to know what she writes down. I only read 1 chaptr from the book and studied the rest from my notes and got an A. Make sure you do above 75% and the final is non cumulative which is key.
She is super nice and very helpful when you don't understand something. Material is hard but she knows her stuff. Definitely not a class for whiners or slackers, but otherwise OK.
Theres a lot of work in this class. SHe gives very good notes, if you study you'll do great. There are 3 exams, 10 quizzes, 2 1 paragraph essays, a 3-4 page paper, and a group presentation. If you go to every class though, you get 2 bonus points. if you get better than a 75 on your first 2 exams, you dont have to take a cumulative final.
The material itself is not hard. However, she is a moody professor. I suspect the culture barrier is a huge problem. She is very strict and has absolutely no tolerance for any talking-even if it is before class. She is soft spoken and very difficult to understand. But, the material is not very hard if you can learn by reading the book.
I found the class to be a breeze. However, this prof isn't always clear when she gives her lecture notes. She sometimes does confuse you. But if you know your economics you will do well!
Very hard to understand, just read the book. Basically, she tests right out of there. Also, she has a ton of quizes, but they are not very hard. She is extremely hard to understand, but don't worry, she repeats herslelf as she lectures at least three times...
WORST professor I have ever had! Exams were ridiculously hard and her lectures were extremely boring.
very difficult tests!
Pay attention in class. Tests are completely off of the outlines she hands out. Do the extra credit. A little hard to understand at time but she repeats herself a lot. One of the easiest classes i've had.
Honestly the most difficult class I have taken. Lectures are hard to follow.. and material studied is very high-level and hard to understand. She's a nice teacher and knows her stuff, but I will not end up doing well. :(
VERY Tough class, prof is ok. She can be friendly at times, but doesn't seem to like it too much if you come to her office hours for help. She does a good job explaining things in class, but material is difficult and easy to forget.
GREAT TEACHER!!! She puts all the info into well organized outlines. All you have to do is show up and pay attention. Gave extra credit, take home tests, and never even needed the book. I would tell anyone considering this class to take her. You'll learn a lot and she'll just make it logical and easy if you show up and try at all to get an A.
Excellent teacher, very helpful, repeats herself (which is a good thing, she's from China) , fun in class. Grades fairly easily, do extra credit, show up, it's a great class and she's a great techer.
Outlines totally helpful, the tests are a little more difficult than you anticipate, but if you study and understand the concepts you'll do fine. Clear on the points and treated quizzes (10% of your grade) as practice, at least this summer. I would recommend her to anyone
Professor Sun is great! Tests are easy if you go to class and study from the outlines she gives. I am getting an 'A' and I didn't even buy the book.
By far, the WORST professor I've had here at GVSU. You only have 3 exams; each of them are worth 26% (!!!) of your grade, which adds up to 78% of your grade is just exams. Hope you don't fail one! She NEVER puts anything up on BB, and if you ask for help, she'll tell you to study harder. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE. AVOID!!!!!
Professor Sun weighted her exams as 27%, 28% and 30%, which equaled 85% of our final grade. No homework was assigned, exams were irrelevent to notes. Lectures are boring and confusing, as she often mixes up information and ends up confusing herself.
She was a horrible teacher. Tests were incredibly hard. Were supposed to be over notes basically but the tests were over more in depth things than the notes. Expects you to remember countless economic equations, which takes up a lot of studying time! Avoid.
Dr. Sun's lectures may be at times dry, but this is econ, what do you expect? The notes she gives are richly informitive. Can cite many interesting case studies, particularly from her native China. She may have an accent, but give her a break-- she's only been living in the states for about 3 years! I didn't have any problem with her.
A very nice woman and she knows her area but she probably would be better in a business setting than teaching. Her explanations are incomprehensible. She speaks like a textbook. The book is useless, do the homework and practice exams and study from them, her exams are almost verbatim from them.
She is asian and can be hard to understand sometimes. Her tests are difficult and usually multiple choice
Once I became accustomed to her teaching style, the class became much better. Grades generously and is clear about what you're expected to know.
She does have a heavy accent that does get in the way. But all you do in the class is take a bunch of notes so her accent should not be a problem. She is an easy grader, homework are word for word from the notes. Study the review sheet and you should do great on the exam. However, her finals are a lot harder than her normal exams DO NOT BUY THE BOO
Incredibly tough class. She is very friendly, but severely ineffective at teaching. She would write pages upon pages of notes on the board and speak like a textbook. She did nothing to relate the topics to real life situations. I have 100+ credits and this is the first class I will ever be taking again...
She makes herself available to help, however, she is not very good at helping. The class is very dull and boring, its all copying down notes. She is very passionate about her students and what she teaches, however I did not feel as if I learned a lot. Try and take class with other prof, however she is an easy grader on the projects and paper.
Presentations are not clear, she gives way too much information and nobody ends up following. By the time the exam review comes you are basically stuck trying to teach yourself the material or memorize everything
Definitely a great professor! Willing to help, caring about students' learning, and knowledgeable! If you come to class every day and study her notes, you will do well. I will take her again.
Class is lecture, some hw, 1 group presentation, 3 Tests, and 1 research paper. She prepares you well for the tests and is straightforward about how she grades. She is very helpful and wants her class to succeed.
One of the nicest ladies I came across at Grand Valley. Cares deeply about her students, and will NOT proceed with the lecture unless everything is understood by each student (which does get frustrating on occasion). Very easy grader, but lectures are from bell to bell with little class discussion. Overall I would take her classes again and again.
Professor Sun is knowledgeable, and you can tell she has a passion for her subject. She is personable and approachable and will try to help you out. Don't buyrent the book. She tells you on the first day its optional. There is one group presentation, 3 non-cumulative exams (they aren't to bad) and a research paper. Recommended
Very kind woman and effective teacher. Cares about her students and their understanding of the information covered. Loved her real world examples and would take her again. Does not require text for Macro Economics and simply gives photo copies of textbook homework questions, which is a perk!
She is a nice lady, but not an effective teacher. No graded homework and only 3 exams that are similar to the study guides given and you get a notecard. One big research paper that she is not kidding when she says you should not wait until last minute. One group presentation that is on your paper. Not bad if you understand economics.
Does not communicate well. If you email her she will not respond. If you ask her questions she has a hard time answering. Boring lectures but great notes. Exams are fair. Group project sucked but individual paper was fun.
Absolutely take this class! Wei Sun is a great professor who offers great feedback! I actually learned things in this class.
One of the greatest professors at Grand Valley! Lecture material is interesting and well planned. Homework assignments are helpful. Group project and presentation require tons of work but are fun and hands-on, giving you the opportunity to learn a real West Michigan company doing global business. Highly recommend!
Professor Sun is a great teacher! Her class is carefully designed with a myriad of interesting information. She respects students. She gives bonus but you have to earn it: 2 points if you attend class 100% (no kidding, 100% for a MWF schedule!) or 1.5 points if you attend 95%. There is no cheap credit you have to work hard to earn everything.
Professor Sun is a nice person who truly cares about her students. She made sure that everybody understood before moving on to the next topic. I learned a lot from this class. She is also a fair grader. I would take her again.
Don't recommend her at all, definitely take a different professor if you want to learn anything and get a decent grade. Basic economics class that was way harder than it should have been. Work load was also heavy for a 200 level class. Only positive was we didn't need a book.
Professor Sun seems knowledgeable, but has a very hard teaching the information she knows to students in a way that everyone can understand. Moves at a very rapid pace and lectures are not thorough or detailed at all. Tough grader, as well. I would avoid if possible.
Good professor. She cares about her students and is a fair grader. She does lecture a lot, but homework is a compleation grade. She loves research assignments so if you love research take this class. There is one long group research paper due at the end of the semester.
Incredibly nice teacher. She is really helpful in office hours and responds to emails. She really knows development economics but sometimes teaches information above the students heads. She is a very generous grader and basically gives full credit just for doing assignments. Tests are a bit difficult with many essays and some problems. She's great
Wei Sun is awesome. Her lectures are awful but are needed to pass the class. Economics has always been a dry subject for me anyways. Eco 349 was enjoyable and insightful, tests are do able with a few hours of studying and always is willing to help during office hours. She often got carried away during lecture but overall taught you well.
Wei Sun is a great professor. She gives straightforward information, and grades homework based on completion and effort. Very understanding if you have a valid reason for missing a class, and helps you succeed. Highly Recommended!
She can be sometimes hard to understand because her English is not that clear but if you pay attention you will be fine. Grading is also very clear and fair. She knows what she is talking about. GO TO OFFICE HOURS, if you need help or have questions with anything she is very helpful.
Professor Sun makes macroeconomics so easy. She explained things very well. Basically if you transcribe the notes on the powerpoints to paper and practice some of the basic math formulas / graphs, it'll be the easiest A you'll ever receive if you put forth a little bit of effort. I honestly wish the class was harder.
Wei Sun is a great professor. Very knowledgable and very well prepared for her lectures. Powerpoints are accessible online, but doesn't always have them projected in class, but goes off of them. Her homework is graded on completeness, and gives answers online to check it, homework is helpful for studying. Show up, pay attention, its easy to pass!
If you put in the effort for this class you'll succeed just fine, and she makes that very clear from the start. The class is based mainly on tests. Homework is graded for completion which is nice, and sometimes she lets you make up points on exams if needed. The information literacy project in her class is a little excessive but not impossible.
Great professor, says a lot during lectures that help you study for exams. Take notes because she goes into depth on bullet points which is helpful. Gives exact exam review guideline which if you study you will do great on exams. No homework, 3 big exams. Releases chapter PowerPoints so if you do not attend lectures you can still pass.
Grade is based off of 3 tests, a short 2 minute presentation and 3 mini research projects. She is a fair grader but the tests can be tricky if you dont study. The study guides she releases will be your best friend and pay attention to the mc questions she goes over in class bc you will see them on the exams.
Professor Sun is well organized, very clear, and lets you know what you need to know to do well on exams and pass the class. She has the more organized blackboard I have ever seen. This is extremely helpful for online classes. I just finished a short 6wk online summer semester. It was overall difficult because of this but it was doable.
Solid prof. Online class so video lectures but they weren't the best. Little to no contact even on zoom, easy homework but tests can be challenging. Would take again.
Such a loving professor and really puts in effort to make sure all of her students succeed. Will give extensions if need be, you just need to communicate with her. Points were given by weekly dissolution boards, but was referred to as weekly participation. Study guides are divided by the topics you learn and what you need to know from each.
Definitely not an easy A but also not impossible. Very smart woman, I do feel like I learned a lot from her class. Lectures are long and not always super interesting but take notes, review and test yourself, and you'll pass. 1 group presentation (we're online right now), several exams, participation points in forums, and research projects.
An online class should not have weekly lectures that take up more time than your class periods in person. Look forward to at least three hours of lectures weekly. The tests online are ridiculous and you have a very small time period (90 minutes) for a test. Tests are worth most of your grade so if you do poorly you are kind of screwed.
Her Grading scale doesnt reflect your grade in the grade book. I received an A by the end of the semester but due to her bad conversion scale I ended with a B without any point values changing. Hard test grader and is heavy on class participation.
her lectures were boring and she only would read from the powerpoint in class. she repeats herself a lot so class is boring. I did not attend class over half the semester and still got a good grade. Exams, quizzes, homework, and participation assignments are easy. would recommend for an easy class but just know it was very boring
Professor Sun gives very long lectures that are boring and not very stimulating. It isn't exactly her fault, considering it's an economics class but still it was tough to sit through. Each week there is a participation assignment, along with an occasional homework assignment. You have 2 absences but after that missing class affects your grade.
She was very nice and responded to emails well. Lectures were horrible and she would show up a minute before class started or was late. She also canceled about half of the classes because she wasn't feeling well or had "suspicion" of not feeling well.
Took this class online, and it was a piece of cake, she offers a lot of extra credit and allows you to get credit for missed exam questions. Overall very easy if you take it online.
Wei is an angel. Clear about grading criteria and exams are easy (look for the practice sheets for each module, as they're often word for word on the tests). She does "final deadlines" for work, so you have extra time to do assignments. She's flexible and works hard to make her class interesting/accessible! Easy A if you hold yourself accountable.
Such a great professor, I would chose her over any other professor for macro. She genuinely cared and made sure that you always learned what you did wrong.
Professor Sun was amazing. Definitely one of the nicest professor I have had. She used real life examples in her lectures, and genuinely cares about her students learning. Very personable and helpful. Exams are all online, homework is manageable, and she gives lots of time to complete the literacy assignment. Can't recommend her enough!
Prof. Sun was a great professor! Her lectures were well organized and her blackboard page was really easy to navigate. Assignments were super helpful and very manageable. She really does care about her students and wants them to succeed. She never made anyone feel stupid and encouraged everyone to do their best. One of my favorite professors.
Professor Sun was very nice and caring, just not my preferred type of teaching method. She graded fairly for the most part, and answers for most assignments were posted.
This professor is a very sweet and passionate person. She goes through all participation assignments with the class and provides answer keys for the weekly homework. She accepts late work for full points, as long as it is before the ultimate deadline. She explains things well.
Professor Sun has been one of the best business professors I've had at GV. She is caring, gives great lectures, and has everyone participate in discussion. Very lenient with late work. I was never bored, and she explains the information very well. Take this professor if you want to get an A in Macro.
Amazing professor. Lectures are not boring, as she is enthusiastic about her class. Very kind, and accessible outside of class. Lenient with late work. A lot of group work during class which makes it easier as you can talk to your peers. Take her for macro!
Professor Sun was probably the nicest professor I have ever had. There were 2 homework assignments due a week but we did one together in class. The lectures are pretty boring but you still learn a lot! Cares about absences after 5, gives extra credit, and has a project at the end of the semester. Not too much homework and she teaches well:)
One of the sweetest professors I've ever had. Takes attendance, but does not affect grade. Encourages students to return textbook and get money back. Really lenient on assignments and projects as long as you communicate. Homework answers posted with homework assignments, almost everything graded on completion (excluding exam and project).
This is my 2nd time taking Macro and I highly recommend this professor if you want an A!!! She only assigns 1 homework assignment a week and posts the answers as well. There will be video lectures that explain everything in detail. 2 exams 1 final and a literacy project. Don't stress about the literacy project, it's easy. Overall, great professor.
Super chill, great informational lectures
Professor Sun was super nice and cared about her students. There is 1 homework assignment a week, 3 exams, and a literacy project, but it is super easy. The class is hard at times, but just pay attention and stay on top of work and you'll do just fine. Highly recommend taking her for ECO 210 over anyone else.
Genuinely such a great professor and so nice! Would definitely recommend her. Two midterm and one exam and a few homework assignments but all fairly easy and self explanatory if you pay attention in class.
Solid professor, she knows what she is talking about and cares about her students. If you have any questions, just ask, she is always looking to help. Exams are online.... lol
Outdated lectures that rely on old PPTs that are more than five years old. Nothing relevant or connected to what's happening today. She's slow to grade, and when grades do come back, there's zero feedback. Take this class if you want an easy "A," but for the cost of GVSU classes, it was a major disappointment if you're actually looking to learn.
Dated lectures, relying on old PPTs that were more than five years old. Nothing felt relevant or connected to what's happening today. She's slow to grade, and when grades do come back, there's no feedback at all. Take this class if you want an easy "A," but for the cost of GVSU classes, it was a disappointment if you're actually looking to learn.
She is so sweet, really cares about her students on more than just an academic level. Assignments and online, and she allows you to take you time with them as she understands students can be busy. She is a very easy grader, but all the information is given to you so if you care about learning you have all the resources to do so.
