The only real problem I had with her class is that she is a little hard to understand at first with her accent. But it didn't take too long for me to get used to it. She is a very smart and nice teacher and is ALWAYS willing to help you out just if you try your hardest. She also explains everything very well. I recommend everyone to take her clas
Def. reccomend!! Ms. Jiang's accent is a little hard to understand at first but she's always willing to explain if you have trouble. She gives you so many opportunities to make a good grade. I am AWFUL at math and had a horrible attitude going into the class and ended up making an A!!
She is hard to understand sometimes, but she's really nice. She's willing to help and is available in her office outside of class. If you do your homework she'll give you a lot of credit for it.
worst teacher i have ever had ! EVER
As long as you do the homework and understand it, you will do well on the test. She can be difficult to understand because of her accent but she is a really nice lady and is willing to explain something if it doesn't make sense. If you put in the effort to do well you will be rewarded!
I have mixed feelings about Ms Jiang. She wants you to succeed in her class and give your plenty of opportunities to do so. She lectures very, very fast and does not give a lot of examples. You are forced to memorize how to do something rather than learn it.
She is a nice person. I found it to be easier to show up for class for attendance but not to learn. I would sit in class and read the textbook, teach myself, and do homework. I never listen to her lectures. I taught myself.
She was the best teacher I have ever had!!! I am awful at math and she made it very easy for me to understand by breaking everything down to a level that I could understand and she also teaches tricks that she has learned that makes calculations easier to do. I would reccomend her to anyone who has trouble understanding math.
worst teacher ever!!!! she doesn't speak English every well. she will spend 20 mins. about how to catch when behind and things that aren't related to math. i wouldn't suggest her to anyone.
I had Mrs. Jiang for pre-algebra. I hadn't stepped foot in a math class since 1985 and was not confident in my abilities. She teaches at a reasonable pace and her tests are taken almost directly from homework and/or classwork. My only complaint might be the workload- it was nothing for me to spend 4-5 hours a week on math.
Prof Jiang can be an excellent professor if she had more control over her class. Lots of time was spent at the beginning of each class due to answering dumb questions. She teaches well once you understand her accent. Towards the end of the sem I felt like she rushed through the material, due to the time spent at the beginning of class.
Great teacher once you get used to her accent. She gives you a weekly quiz to make sure you are getting it. Test are giving in her classroom after a whole class on reviewing the test.
Great teacher!! Very passionate about Math. Gives plenty of opportunities for extra credit.
She is very helpful and willing to help. Does a test review and let's you take your tests in her class, her accent is thick, but a good teacher.
Accent is rather thick, but you get over it quickly. The initial Precal review is intimidating, but power through it. Plenty of extra credit opportunities, reasonable deadlines, and comprehensive class notes. ((No learning from book, just HW)) Tests are difficult, but match reviews closely. Pay attention and you'll do fine. EC Attendance.
I took intermediate algebra online. the exams were pretty much everything you practiced in homework but only slightly different. if you keep up with your homework you'll do great! Jiang also will often extend due dates on quizzes so you can make up for poor scores and prepare yourself for the exam, which is really awesome!
I took her distance learning course 1314 inter. algrbra 0390. She did everything in her power to make sure that you had enough time and information on tests, quizzes, and homework. She answered emails by 1 day to 1 day 1/2. Always referred you to coming into her for help or the tutoring sessions. She also sent out reminder emails for quizzes an homework assignments that were due. Awesome professor.
Very knowledgeable about calculus. She writes fast so you have to keep up with notetaking. She lectures to the last second of class. Gives tons of opportunities for extra credit, if you can't pass her class you are just being lazy. Do the homework, quizes and study the reviews and you will do fine. Really enjoyed her class. Well worth my money.
Super Professor, Im by no means a math person and I easily got an A in the class. Do the homework and quiz's. Do her review and you will do great. If you dont pass this class you wont pass any Calculus class! The only negative about her class is she has a strong accent but she more than makes up for that with extra credit!!!!!
Very helpful professor. She is always smiling and willing to do the most for her students to understand the material. I'm not really a math lover and went into Business Calc because I need it; the course was not really hard to grasp with her. STUDY THE REVIEWS and take advantage of the test corrections and extra credit and you should pass with A!!!
Super nice teacher, gave us lots of time to do our homework. Will take another class with her in a heartbeat
Can not understand her at all. She does curve and after you adapt to her accent then it gets easier. I would take someone that speaks better English if you have a hard time with math.
Probably the worst teacher I’ve taken at ACC. I was spending five hours, twice a week in the learning lab to understand what was going on. She skips steps and is a speed demon doing equations on the board so you don’t even have time to comprehend w/she’s doing. If you’re not a genius I would recommend a teacher that actually teaches the class.
I was really impressed with this professor. I loved that i was able to go back and take quizes over and go over the homework again to get a better score.
lots of opportunities to pass, extra credit for note taking, can redo quizzes, hands out study guides, in class test reviews, drops three low quiz grades and a homework grade, and replaces a test grade with the final grade if need be. She goes fast with lectures, so memorize formulas and you will do fine. Study quizzes and do homework & youre fine
I am horrible at math and was worried about taking this class online. But I did fine. Professor Jiang gives you a list of everything you need to complete with reasonable due dates. She also lets you go back and redo online HW and Quizzes as many times as need. Written HW is just for completion. Super easy class as long as you try.
She was very nice and lenient w/hw deadlines. The hw assigned covered what was on the tests very well and if you do the hw you will pass easily. She is probably better to take as an online class. I took this same course from another teacher before and I failed it but with Ms. Jiang I passed. I would recommend her class.
Very forgiving and considerate, I think that the homework is a little bit excessive but she is forgiving with the deadlines. The text book is confusing as and the videos on MyMathLab is is even worse.Dr.Jiang, however will give you as long as you need to be successful. Online math was the hardest course I have ever taken, but she made it easy.
She's super sweet and always has a smile on! Very willing to help you out and super lenient on late grades. She can go a little fast during lectures, and she does have an accent so if you're not good with them then you probably shouldn't take her. The review format is the exact same as the test, just different names and numbers. Eager to help you.
Lowest test grade is dropped. Homework is very easy. Quizzes are simple, and you can correct them and get half the points you missed back. Midterm is optional. Take notes and you'll get a good grade. Her tests are similar to the study guide. I got used to her accent, but it is pretty strong. Answers all questions.
Professor Jiang was awesome for Business Calculus I. She spent a lot of time working with students that needed concepts broken down, had great office hours for additional help, and offered extra credit optionsopportunity to retake quizzes. My only issue was that deadlines were often changed - sometimes last minute when the work was already done.
She was really nice. I am not that great at math but she helped me when I needed it. When I turned homework assignments late she still gave me a 100. Great professor
She is very smart, but she has a very thick Chinese accent. I gave her a 1 for clarity strictly because of her accent. She has a respectable teaching style, it's just hard to understand her. She gives many opportunities to succeed though, which is never a bad thing. LOTS of extra credit opportunities. She is so very nice and sweet. I liked her.
She is a hard working lady that really wants her students to learn and make good grades. She does not try to be so strict and make a point like some other terrible professors
She does have a thick accent, but she's a good teacher. I did my homework and occasionally skimmed the book to help myself grasp some concepts better. Sometimes she does over-explain stuff and get a little confusing, or spend so much time reviewing homework problems that you wonder if it's over going to end, but you get plenty of chances to pass.
Professor Jiang is accessible & quickly responds to emails. She was very reasonable with her deadlines & it was a good class.
I took the online Intermediate Algebra course as a refresher since I am going back to school after a 10 year hiatus. I've never done exceptionally well at math, but this class has definitely given me renewed interest. She answers emails promptly and gives you everything you need to pass.
Weilin Jiang is the math teacher every good student can appreciate. She covers every topic, subject, and means of approaching a problem , explains concepts, will stop and compare/explain anything not understood. I took for Calculus 1 and I absolutely loved her. Slight accent and pronunciation can make some students confused so be aware, fyi
professor jiang is very nice and helpful. her accent is pretty thick but you get used to it. her lectures are heavy but there is a lot of material to cover in calculus. her quizzes are a little tough and her exams aren't too bad since her test reviews are very similar to her test questions. very helpful and our midterm was take home. very nice prof
Fantastic professor! Reviews algebra and trig concepts in the beginning of course. TONS of extra credit, accepts late homework, open book quizzes, and exams in the testing center. Replaces lowest exam too. Teaches at a fast pace so going to the learning lab is a must. Overall a very understanding and fair professor. Highly recommended!
THE BEST MATH PROFESSOR ALIVE! Dr. Jaing tries so hard and succeeds every lecture. Despite what other reviews say, her accent is not bad at all, especially if you show up to class. Very fair. She wants to give as many A's as possible but she won't just hand them out. If you do the work, its an easy A.
Excellent professor but be prepared to put the time in to do the homework and teste reviews. Lots of opportunities to make up bad grades (2 homework grades dropped, 3 quiz grades dropped, take home midterm, extra credit problems on tests). I found her clear, organized, methodical, and don't be put off by the comments about her accent. Recommend!
She's so cute / sweet. Lectures from start to finish and really wants you to do well. She's not picky and she tries her best to teach clearly. It helps to participate - I mean it's just manners. She has an accent but you get used to it.
She is a very nice lady! But, class is just okay. She teaches straight from book and class is super boring. Quiz and homework due weekly. 4 tests & midterm. Midterm counts as its own test grade and replaces lowest test grade. ***Midterm IS NOT TAKEHOME.*** Drops 3 quiz grades and two homework grades. One EC problem on each test, but very hard.
I've had her for 2413 & 2414 & I think she's great! You learn to understand her accent but she is not offended if you need clarification. She lectures at a fast pace, gives test reviews that end up +5 points on exams, allows you to submit quiz corrections for half the missed points, optional midterm will replace lowest exam grade.
Professor Jiang is amazing . Test reviews are extra 5points on exam, 50% points back for all quiz correction and optional midterm to replace lowest test grade. Most of the test questions are from the review. Also, she likes to pick a few questions from previous homework and quizzes and put on test and she will not put it on the review.
Algebra and trigonometry is surely fundamental to succeed in this course. Most of the topics were based on those two subjects. She likes to challenge your understanding with complicated questions, but nothing insanely hard to fry your brains out. Exams were definitely similar to reviews, homework and quizzes.
She has really bad accent. I COuld not understand anything
Ms. Jiang does many examples in class, but doesn't give a lot of feedback on homework (grades on completion). Her tests aren't that hard if you study a lot for them. Getting an A was definitely hard, but not impossible. She's flexible with grading and deadlines and will listen to the students.
I disagree with other reviews here. Her accent is at times difficult, but not to the point of impossible to understand. She expects you to have your trig and algebra down, so brush up before taking her. She's very fast in lecture, and you will feel like you just ran a mental marathon at the end. But she's fair, caring, & flexible. Would take again.
I took professor Jiang for Calculus 1 and 2. She has always been a caring women who wants her students to pass. What I really appreciated the most about her is that she took the time to explain the concepts, and gave many examples. (A surprisingly rare thing in many math classes!). Calculus in general is hard, but she helps you understand it. Nice!
Class is not mandatory but it is important that you show up and be active. Tests are weighted at 80% of your grade so be ready for that. She's a really good teacher and will help you out outside of class. She's really nice and moved a little fast because of the time. I really recommend her!
Shes approachable and will help you outside of class.
This class is not for anyone who does not want to do math. Like every other skill, you need to practice. Math is a skill. If you do not have time to practice, you'll fail. Tests 80% of our grade. Homework and quizzes were harder than the tests. She grades on partial credit so that's a plus. She was always very responsive to emails.
She is so sweet and always helpful and patient to the students who are struggling in all levels and not picky at all in grading quizzes , exams and home works just do all the homework problems and you will receive full score of 100 regardless of the answer for them. I will retake her and also recommend her for the calculus courses .
she care for her students, try to answer any question, test is similar with review, her lecture is clear and easy to understand.
(Calculus 1) She is very good at math and moves fairly quickly in her lectures/notes. If you have a question she'll be more than happy to help until you understand it completely. In order to do well in this class you must keep up with homework. The grade mostly relies on tests, so don't memorize the concepts, really understand them.
She went SO FAST from day 1. Its like she expected us to already know the content! If u asked questions during or after lecture, she referred u to free ACC tutoring, no help at all. I dropped her class, took it w/ another instructor the following semester & made an A . I do not recommend her for MATH 1414 (online synchronous COVID).
Her lectures move a little fast but she always asked the class if we were understanding the material. She was always willing to go over material again if you were struggling. Many of the reviews say there was a lot of homework, but in my opinion it wasnt too bad. It is a college level class after all. Overall I enjoyed her class and recommend it.
Professor Jiang is really sweet. She goes kinda fast and there's quite a bit of hw but it's all just extra practice since it's very similar to what you will see on the test. The tests are most of your grade but you only have to answer any 12 of the 14 questions which helps.
I thought this class was really straightforward. This online class did not have any lectures, so you do have to stay on top of the reading and do all of the homework to succeed. Instructor answered emails and questions quickly. The professor also offered an extra credit opportunity which did help me at the end of the semester.
Perfect
Disheartening. Their lack of expertise and inability to effectively convey concepts made the course a struggle.
I had this professor when I was younger. Haven't been to school in a while due to personal reasons. Something changed with this professor's attitude greatly. Now has become impatient and full on rude. I would have given a 1 if this was my first experience with her.
Calculus is generally a hard class I took Calc 2 with this professor, she is very nice and tries her best. Gives class notes, post notes, test review questions and answer. If you want to get a good grade regular study is a must.
Pretty much just you and the textbook. Heavily based on ALEKS and lockdown exams. She responds very fast to emails and is readily available whenever needed. Definitely not for everyone because its extremely based on self-learning, but it's doable.
The asynchronous version of this class is you and a textbook. You have to teach yourself everything. The only lectures provided are made by the publishers of the textbook are in-text which are very technical and of little use. Homework is written and online; tests are a majority of your grades. Youtube and Mathway are your best friends.
Professor Jiang is an extremely competent teacher. Homework and tests were graded in a timely manner, she offered extra credit if students needed to reinforce material or boost grades, and instruction & emails were always perfectly clear. Attend lectures, use her resources to study, and go to her office hours if you need--and you will do great!
Async really is just you and aleks and the monotone textbook lady. The vids so hard to follow and doesn't always explain how she gets from point A to B. I struggled so bad. DO NOT take async. I reached out to prof and she was supportive but it was still the worst class structure I've taken. I had no free time because of this class. Don't reccomend.
Due dates would change at random. we often had homework due on lessons that had not yet been taught and she didn't always understand the content herself. I struggled to understand what she was saying in class sometimes, so I asked her to turn on zoom subtitles she refused and when I asked her why she berated me to the point of raising her voice.
The main things I have to take away from her class is that tests are 80%, she doesn't do any actual teaching, just assigns videos to watch on Aleks and a metric buttload of homework regarding the videos, bored me to death multiple times. Oh yeah and tests are 80%
Tests are 80%, and you'll be watching the ALEKs video guide woman more than this professor. Her lectures are somehow slow and fast. Slow in the sense that you won't get to key information on how to complete problems but fast in the sense that you'll do quite a lot with zero explanation. Read the textbook while in class, it's time better spent @_@.
This is one of the worst teachers I have ever encountered in my entire life. Avoid at all costs if possible
She was very kind and wanted all of her students to succeed, is little harsh on you for not knowing basic concepts and goes through lessons very quickly. Exams can also be very difficult. One of the worst math experiences I've ever had. You'll be ok if you know what you're doing, but if math isn't your thing, you'll struggle. Don't take her
Professor Jiang wants you to do well and is very accessible. However, sometimes she does steps too quickly, almost like she forgets that we are trying to learn. Class notes, recordings and test reviews are provided and are very helpful. You will need to stay on top of studying and homework.
It's near impossible to follow just about anything she does, she moves incredibly fast when teaching and the assignments done during class are almost completely unlike what you'll see on the tests. You need to be constantly studying the extra notes in order to supplement what she is unable to teach. One of the worst math teachers at ACC, be wary.
Remember that your professor matters! I did so bad when I first took this class with a different professor and barely passed with a D. I had to retake it and received a SOLID A. She is a great teacher who cares and reaches out when she sees you struggling. I RECOMMEND HER STRONGLY!
This professor seems more concerned with rushing through the course content rather than focusing on teaching and checking for understanding. Class notes are vague and are 1-2 problems per unit compared to the course materials which go much more in depth. You might as well skip class to read the textbook instead. Don't recommend
In my opinion, you will have a better experience with this professor if you already understand math concepts well. She does not go into very much depth when teaching. This is probably where the mixed reviews come from. The provided class notes and test reviews were helpful. No quizzes, tests worth 80% of all grade.
She was alright, helpful and cares about her students but can rush during lecture. I recommend not being shy to ask her to repeat or slow down. Also, her accent makes it a bit harder to catch everything she's saying, so if you aren't good with accents you might want a different prof
Tests are 80% of the grade, no EC is offered ever. You'll do well if you're good at math but if you aren't, oh boy. No lectures, the class is self-taught with an online book full of jargon. The professor is here literally just to grade one homework per week and one exam per month. The class is ALL YOU...and again, exams are 80% of final grade! Run!
Unforgiving class. No wiggle room because the 3 tests and the cumulative final total 80% of your grade. Final replaces lowest test grade but if you do bad in one test what are the chances you'll do well in the cumulative final? Zero extra credit or chance of redemption was offered. This is not a class to take if you're a poor test taker.
It was awful. She does not stop teaching and works really fast with no time to process what has been done. If she calls on you, you have 5 seconds max to answer. Doesn't give time for questions or help, lots and LOTS of homework, paper AND online. If you want a professor that engages with you and helps you, this is not the professor you want.
This professor moves through class insanely fast. It seemed like the goal from each class was to get thru as much material as possible without stopping. When you told her she was going to fast, she'd pause for a second, and then continue at the same pace. 4 tests essentially decide your grade, so unless you're great at teaching yourself, I'd avoid.
