lectures are very boring, u have to read another book and do a 15 page paper, she doesn't cover too much of the materials in class, she makes u have to read

Lectures are a little boring... You learn a lot from her. She is very smart. and great teacher. Her class is challenging I like that.
This class is not for people who don't like lectors. She lectors the whole period and writes basically no notes on the bored. She speaks very soft.
A lot of the test material come from the lecture. Read before class and take good notes. Do the paper early so you don't get tied down.
Exams are from lecture. No distributed notes so attendance is very important. It's a good idea to get an early start with the paper. She's a fair grader. Read before class if not then read on the highlights of lecture and an "A" can be possible.
Sometimes can't understand what she is saying. He lectures are confusing at times. But test are kinda easy.
Her class is very boring, but she gives open book quizzes that are very easy. (Quizzes are about 5-6 questions long) Exams are fairly easy as long as you study. She has an accent, so it may be hard to understand what she says. If you miss a quiz, you may be able to retake it if you provide her with a good excuse.
Sometimes hard to understand due to accent. Class moves very slowly. Take lots of notes and tests will be easy. She gives some extra credit- overall good class.
BORING. hard to understand. i found her to be a bit rude and unecessary too.
She may be boring but overall she's not difficult. She gives study guide hand outs that she goes by when she gives lectures, so as long as you take notes on what ?'s are on the hand outs and study that, you shouldn't have a problem getting an A. & she gives lots of extra credit, that saved my ass!
Helpful and knowledgeable about her subject. Gives extra credit.
If you have a hard time paying attention for that full hour and 15 minutes, it can get boring. BUT she really knew her subject! It was kinda nice that you could tell she still was enthusiastic about what she was teaching. Lectures are very informational. You really do learn a lot. Tests are easy. There's extra cerdit. If you want to learn, take it.
I enjoyed this class and learned a lot. Dr. Cai was very helpful and followed the textbook and study outline. She offers extra credit so it is easy to get an A. She takes attendance, so going to class is in your best interest. Take notes during her lectures, apply yourself and you'll do well. Shows video of topics related to textbook. Good class!
DR. Cai wants you to learn & enjoy the class. She is extremely approachable & helpful. She follows her study guides for testing & does offer extra credit. Her accent isn't an issue as mentioned prior-I don't understand where that comes from! DR. Cai is wonderful!
Dr. Cai has the right intentions for her students. Listen to the lectures, note-taking is not pertinant, HEAVY ON THE TEXT! I learned more than I thought I would taking Cultural Anthropology and it is because of this class that I have now changed my major!
I heard a previous comment about note-taking and listening to lecture. I'd suggest listening to the lecture as though you were listening to a friend and note-taking is not necessary, if you're listening. Yes, heavy text book use. I'd pay more attention to the text than your notes. Prepare yourself to memorize vocab word for word.
great teacher, very friendly and helpful.at times a little to understand, but she is willing to explain more for you.i did not expect to like the class as much as i did.just pay attention and you can do well
lots of extra credit
To me, she was kind of intimidating. When I didn't understand something, didn't feel like I could ask her cuz got the vibe that "you're supposed to know it." If you fully comprehend the text, then you dont need to show up for class and will pass. the quizzes are tricky on how its worded. Class is boring and hard.
Language barrier!! If you're major's in nursing and need GREAT GRADES.. do not pick this instructor. Her quizzes are tricky.
she has a very strong accent which makes it very difficult to understand a lot of what she talks about in class...
I took this class my first semester, I was completly lost. Prof. Cai's accent is thick. Cai is very hard to understand. Class was very boring and long. Expects a lot from her students. Cai teaches like she's teaching graduate students.
Besides the accent, Cai is great. Class was not hard at all. Just take notes and read, and you'll do fine. Tests aren't that hard. Very kind teacher. I would recommend her, she is not really that bad!
Language barrier, hard to understand
This class was the most difficult, but at the same time the most interesting. I felt like I really learned a lot from this class. She knows her stuff really well. She might seem strict, but she's actually nice. It's very important to read the book, even if you don't want to! You have to also make sure that you know the study guide.
this teacher was very hard to understand and on top of that she talks too soft. very hard to understand she get fustrated really fast and makes you feel stupid when you ask a question that you supposed to know the answer to i wouldnt recomend her at all!
Attendance is a must, she notices which students missed class. Reading the chapters before lecture is a must, her accent is thick. And read the novel "the spirit catches you..." because there will be 3-4 pg. paper. How she wants the paper to be is an analytical point of view, she doesnt want a book report.
mrs. cai has a temperment and tends to snap at her students. her exams are difficult, you can study all day and night and still not do well.
She is a bit of a moody lady. She tends to snap at students with innocent questions. READ THE BOOKS. This is key. She is terribly difficult to understand. The tests are tricky, and her lectures don't cut it. But you do learn some neat stuff.
I dont't know why a lot of people say mean things about Prof. Cai. Her tests can be tricky and you do have to read a lot, I found this class to be the most interesting one. She is very understandable. The people who are bitter are probably the ones who didn't study hard enough.
She is a really tuff teacher, but i really did learn alot from her. At first i started with an F because i bummed out on my midterm but later i realized that i need to pass this course so i studed really hard and earned a B+. To those people who can't understand her you might want to use a recorder because it really helped me alot.
Her lectures are amazing! Come to class, take notes and you'll do well on her exams. She provides helpful study guides. You must do the article readings for her quizes or you won't score well.
she yells at her students if you dont read the chapter. Her study guides don't match the exams and her lectures are hard to understand.
Dr. Cai is a wonderful professor. She makes it easy to pass her. class (as long as you do the required work). She gives out a lot of extra credit. As long as you do the required reading it is an easy A
Dr. Cai is a little hard to understand but her class is pretty easy. Just gotta take notes while she lectures and use that to fill out the study guides. There is also lots of extra credit opps.
She was not at all clear. It was hard to understand her at times. She has plenty of extra credit which its pretty good. But her exams and quizzes are tough. For me, I never really understood the concept of evolution so i had to take notes on every little thing. Evolution really isnt a walk in the park...
She yells and gets mad at people who ask questions. She's very hard to understand. Textbook is very wordy so relying on it is no use, requires reading multiple times. Exams are hard and tricky. I wish I never took this class. I've never felt so much of lack of motivation due to this teacher.
It's a hard class. The study guides don't help you with your exams. You need to know everything in the book provided. She has an accent so it's sometimes hard to understand. But, she does give a lot of extra credit, but don't expect it to boost your grade that much. I don't recommend her.
VERY DIFFICULT! I should've listened to the prior ratings. She has a SUPER thick accent that makes it hard to understand. Study Guide DOESN'T help you one bit. Lectures are SUPER boring and DON'T help at all. Your better off reading on your own. NOTES ARE A MUST! Doesn't really seem approachable. She literally spends like 10 minutes on one slide!
This teacher is extremely hard. I am an A student and after dealing with her class and studying super hard. I ended up getting a bad grade. Her accent is strong and hard to understand and pay attention to her. The extra credit she gives is not that much, probably 5 points. She isn't motivating. I wouldn't recommend to take her class.
Her class and teaching is quite difficult. I feel like no matter how hard I study it does not help me once I take the exam. I notice she does yell at people who ask questions. I dislike how she does not include class participation or interaction. She literally just lectures throughout the entire class.
This teacher is horrible! Do not take her no matter what, her accent is VERY hard to understand. If you want to learn anything about anthropology take another teacher. I went to class everyday, read the book, took notes and studied and still got a bad grade. All I have to say is IMPOSSIBLE!
She:belittles my culture and eulogizes her own, is close minded, is unclear on assignments and only teaches her own culture, her tests are rediculous and the multiple-choice answers all mean the same thing. She's looking for her own words exactly the way she said them...not recommended.
knows her stuff. but when explaining concepts, its not clear. willing to help & stay after class for questions. reading the book is a MUST. exams are ONLY 48 quest. but are tricky. not on memorization, you have to really understand EACH & EVERY concept. i did ALL assignments & extra credit & only got a B. extra credit will not bump you a grade up.
You seriously need to take a computer to class to type, or write QUICKLY. When it comes to taking notes, she WILL NOT post her Power Points on to Laulima. She always compares the lessons to her life in China, which totally makes things harder to understand.
Not gonna lie, this class was tough, but it was my favorite of the semester. Cai grades on how well you understand the concepts, so this course requires a lot of critical thinking as well as time devoted to studying. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed her class, but it is definitely not a class for students who are bumming through college.
I Highly recommend to not take this teacher, she's absolutely horrible at everything. Her accent makes it hard to understand everything and she puts alot of unnecessary things in your head that only confuses you more. Clarity is everything in a difficult class and she has ZERO POINT THREE CLARITY!
Will rant on one or two concept in a cycle accounting for possibly 6-8% of SLO/Test material. will ask questions, and consider all answers incorrect and restate your same concept in different words (overall, same answer you provided) tests consist of questions that have contradicting but somehow correct answers which conflict the readings.HORRIBLE!
To be honest, this class was very difficult for me. She goes too fast on the material, and her accent really doesn't help. The class is pretty dull and boring. I highly suggest not taking her class.
i wouldn't recommend this class. critical/nearly impossible to comprehend reading assignments. i am an "A" student and i am barely managed a B in this course. you will encounter questions in quiz/exam that have multiple correct answers and the correct one is the least reasonable. if you take this class, just remember you were warned. 70% drop rate.
Highly NOT recommend. Her accent makes it difficult to understand. She also looks down on you if you do not understand the material and go to her office for clarification. Exams are multiple choice but there are multiple answers that are correct and the right answer does not make since. I wish I would have dropped her class early in the semester.
I Dont understand her english, highblood teacher, she can urgue with the student in front of the class. not a good teacher. DO NOT TAKE HER!!!
Terrible. I am an A student and I barely managed a C+. The quizes are multiple choice but all the answers are vague and muddy and you can search through the book but the answers are not in there. She/ her writing is unnesecarily wordy which she does to give the illusion she is intelligent. There is so much fluff to get throught just to get the info
no clarity in her communication accent or not. no matter how hard you study you will do bad. she has no ability to express ideas and concepts clearly and intelligently. Possible language barrier with no effort from her to over come this problem.
tk class online. No surprises. do the reading, do the work, and ur good. prof does have a heavy accent, so just skip her narrated lectures and read on ur own.in addition to text, have to read 300pg novel. 2 main assignments come from the novel (1q&a style paper, then a 5-6 page paper). interesting class, just b prepared to read
I don't agree with many of the other comments because my experience was entirely different. Prof. Cai was very passionate about Anthropology and showed genuine concern for teaching. She made sure we understood what was required in the course. I learned so much and definitely got my moneys worth.
Dr. Cai is very knowledgable about Anthropology. I really enjoyed learning about other cultures. Although she did spend a lot of time talking about her cultural upbringing. She is a very competent instructor and I feel happy that I was part of the course.
I took Dr. Cai's online class over the summer. One of the most interesting classes I've taken so far. Her instructions were pretty straightforward. She encouraged me to have a more open mind.
She knows her topic extremely well. Tip to pass go to laulima print out study guide and take notes as she lectures. She talks so much all the answers will be on the test. Its REALLY boring. All her test are multiple choice. I don't recommend this class but she is very organized and helpful if you ask her for help.
Does not make topic interesting. Her tests are VERY hard because the answers are so vague and there are so many problems that are the same. If you want your DH, do not take Anthro.
This class was really tough but she was a good teacher. Shes always concerned about the students and tried her best to explain each chapter If you read the book, do the discussions, and go to class its not that bad.
This class is an easy A. She gives lectures so attendance would be mandatory. She doesn't put her powerpoints online so class notes are important. The textbook is also mandatory! I didn't take her seriously when she said read your textbook, but many of the information comes from there! Make use of the extra credit. The class is only out of 200 pts!
Dr. Cai is a great teacher! I took her for ANTH 150 and ANTH 200 and got an A in both classes. She is very knowledgeable about Anthropology and passionate about what she teaches. Her lectures can be boring but if you attend class, read the textbook, and take notes, you can easily get an A. She also gives a lot of extra credit.
Nice teacher.
Not an easy A, so don't be fooled by it being an easy online course. Must read every page of the text & comprehend what you read. Tests can be tricky. Take advantage of ExCr. Definitely a great course to open mind & heart...which is vital in nursing. Fast email response and helpful for any concerns, including personal. You get what you put into it!
I wouldn't recommend this class. Critical/nearly impossible to comprehend reading assignments. I am an "A" student and I barely managed in this course. you will encounter questions in quiz/exam that have several correct answers and the right one is the least reasonable. if you take this class, just remember you were warned. 70% drop rate.
has a pretty deep accent which makes her power points hard to understand. The work isn't that bad the quizzes are worded tricky.
Many of the topics are common sense, try not to overthink. Learn the terminalogies. While writing the papers, explain throughly even for high schoolers.
If you don't have the textbook, you won't pass. Homework is worth about 9 points with 3 questions, but its very hard to earn full credit because she is picky with what you write. About 3 quizzes based on articles. 3 exams that are pretty difficult, even if I read the chapter because its so specific. Most challenging class I've had so far.
Tests are tough, questions that have more than one right answer makes it confusing. Which kinda stinks because if you do average on a test prepare for a letter grade drop. I feel that her responses to the writing assignments come across as some what rude. I do realize that this is an online course so whats written may not be intended to be rude.
Professor Cai's class was not an easy A but it certainly wasn't as difficult as everyone on here lead me to believe. This felt like what I always expected a college class to feel like and I respect her for that. Just make sure you read, watch, and study the lecture videos and you'll be fine.
Lectures are long, she can go off topic but still has interesting stories. Expects a lot out of you, class is only out of 200 pts. Hardest class I've had so far, but definitely what I expected a real college course to be like. Exams- hard, but study right and you'll do good. Write a lot for WR's and try to cover everything, that's what she wants.
Online class was great! Grade was 108 at end! Easy weekly quiz over an article in book, about 6 q's mult choice. No hw! Test about once a month over about 4 chapters. Long, but open book, mult choice. If you read the material, and know where to find the answers, there is no reason to not get an A. The subject is very interesting too!
If you have the chance to take this course with another professor, do it. Maybe it was not as bad for online students but for all of us taking this in person, its beyond difficult. She gets frustrated with the class and never gives a clear answer for a Q. I would never take another class she teaches.
This class was interesting, if you ask anything she's already talked about she'll snap but other than that, it's a good course. There are two group projects and 3 exams spread out throughout the course. Her lectures can be boring but she has some pretty cool stories. She's super nice and really understanding. Read the book and you'll be fine.
I'm currently taking many online courses. I withdrew from the class. Professor Cai offered very little homework. . She's very combative when giving feedback. I noticed she commented "perhaps yo didn't understand the question" to many peers. I personally want the homework. I'll be retaking Anthropology with a different teacher.
The lectures consisted on Professor Cai speaking the entire time. There wasn't much class interaction and there is A LOT of reading. If you read the chapters, take copious notes, and attend class you will do fine.
LECTURE HEAVY. That's all our classes consist of, just her talking for the whole hour. She is very knowledgeable about the material. Clear grading criteria. Only thing is that she is very intimidating. We did a group project, had to pick a leader to present. One student stood there for half the class cause he didnt know how to answer her ? Poor guy
She's definitely really passionate about the subject and knows it well, but she's very close minded and has one right way. If you phrase something differently or try to clarify something in simpler terms she will straight up say "no, that's wrong." She only has one right answer so make sure you thoroughly understand the concepts and read the book.
It's very noticeable how much she loves and is knowledgable about Anthro. However, She doesn't know how to cooperate with students. If a question is asked, she doesn't help you, just expects you to understand the reading, even if the question is about the reading. She's very confusing. Unapologetic. Unorganized. In the end, my whole class hated it.
The site provides minimal instruction and professor isn't clear on the grading system/expectations. Not necessarily a tough grader, but is difficult to impress; even the high grades receive comments and feedback that come off as aggressive. Only a few assignments/tests throughout semester, keep track and don't miss ANY or your grade will suffer.
She is very lecture heavy but she is detailed during them. This professor does not give out rubrics which makes the grading process not the most reliable. Be sure to read the ENTIRE chapters and to actually understand what you are reading.
Easy A. def need to read for the weekly quizzes, usually only a few pages. can get away with finding answers online for exams. does a few discussions throughout semester and offers lots of extra credit. ended the class with a 101 and i even skipped an assignment.
Teacher is very lecture heavy. Did not have much homework and the exams were weighed on too much. Her study guides didnt help at all, material would be completely different on the exam. Would not recommend taking this class.
Took the online class. Read an entire text book, minus one chapter. Read many articles that were related to the chapters. She is very straightforward in her feedback and it is insightful. This is a thought provoking class. I would recommend her class to those who are willing to do the work.
Dr. Cai is very knowledgable about anthropology and it shows but it is very lecture heavy. She barely gives clear instruction ad there is little room for error because there can only be one answer. She doesn't accommodate students learning styles so be prepared to basically learn everything on your own. Exams are nothing like study guides.
Future healthcare workers, u'll learn a lot. She responds to emails quickly & gives contructive criticism (thoughtfully chosen words to not discourage you). Gives study guides, chance to earn 27 xtra credit pts, 3 open book exams for online class, 2 papers. No reason you shouldn't get an A. Tip: Required novel, just google "free pdf" version.
Lots of chances for extra credit.
Although there were many opportunities for EC, I had a really hard time navigating my way through her site. The lecture videos are lengthy and the work load is heavy and plentiful.
I never thought I would withdraw from a class, but I couldn't justify paying for this course. It is essentially self taught with heavy textbook reading. No real engagement from Professor, except borderline aggressive responses to forum posts. Do not recommend.
This professor does not know how to use zoom!!!She does not want to email her directly from email. She needs to add educational vedio to the lecture from power point.if you looking to get anthropology 152 credit it better to do it at the university
Very nit-picky. Unwilling to accommodate to student's needs.
I'm a straight A student but she is a a very very tough grader. Any little detail in your forums will cause you to lose points. There are only about 15 things in your gradebook. Also many of the questions on her quizzes are worded purposely to confuse you. Also the dates in which assignments and quizzes open and close are peculiar. Don't take.
Do not take her. Few assignments so every point counts. she is also a strict grader.
She seems like a good person but she is a stickler. Like she is not gonna help you out when you are going through something. She is just gonna give you zero chances if you make a mistake.
The class can be challenging, but engaging with the material and using resources like unstuck ai helps. Professor Cai is strict but provides opportunities for extra credit. Attend class, read the textbook, and you'll do well.
Barely any instructions. Not enough assignments to bring your grade up, gives feedback on assignments and most of them I get a 50% but I do OK on the exams. Professor explains what I did wrong but not the correct answer, no extra credit opportunities. Not too much work to do for this class, but it's very hard and confusing.
