He cannot speak english, pronounces width as widgit, and is an evil man
He is funny and hardworking! I enjoyed the course with him.
God help you if you have prolog with him.
He's okay, but sometimes hard to understand & doesn't really help after class
Very good. He should be a full time prof.
mmm-holes for nnn-pigeons

What is a "Terrorist Approximation"? Well, in english, not whatever Li speaks, that is a Taylor's Approximation
If you can keep up with the pace of his explanations, you'll be fine. Seems fond of rather cumbersome notation, but his analogies are hilarious, e.g. the "antiwife of her."
Nice teacher, really funny comments . Erases board after writing on it 30 seconds earlier, and when confronted goes (Yuu write too slow!)

There are two languages in this country... and he speaks neither of them.
Please, speak ENGLISH or FRENCH!
C'mon guys, he cannot be without an accent if his first language is not English... He tries to explain, and if you are too stupid to understand, well, what can he do? But course is hard as hell though, IMHO...
Can't do math? Blame the teacher! He's not an arts teacher. An excellent resource, if you're not too busy complaining about his accent. One of the best, and self-taught, professors ever!

Good teacher, explains really well. Somewhat hard to understand but you get used to it... Midterm questions are pretty easy.
Great Math teacher. knows his stuff and explains really well. As long as you go to all the lectures, you should get at least B.
the worst prof i had in 4 years. i do not know why did ottawa U allowed him to teach the 1st year math course.
Not easy to understand, makes lost of mistakes
Terribly hard to understand in class because of heavy accent. Not helpful after class. Tends to drone on a bit and isn't engaging.
Lots of great examples and explanations. He;s not thorough in class.. this is what the text is for. The classes are further information and examples (though necessary). His accent is thick, but perfectly understandable if you.. you know.. *listen*. I'm an english only speaker and I had no problem understanding him.
WARNING!!! RUN - If you want an unorganized, confusing, utterly useless and appalling proff, take him! The math department actually has approved a petition signed by hundreds of students to get him OUT. He has a 60% average failure rate and the average on the midterm was 30%....do the math!
This professor is a nice guy, but unfortunately the University is more concerned with hiring professors for their research ability, and not their teaching capabilities. (This is a FACT!) It all comes down to how much money a professor can bring in to the University. (research grants) Brilliant guy, but lethal teaching prof. :(
The worst teacher ever! Our class signed a petition to get him fired. We got a 40% average at the mid-term! If you get him as your math teacher, do something before it's too late!

RUDE and is only teaching for grants and money. Hard to understand, does not help when you need it and is very hard to understand. Also, in class if a student asks a question he gets pissed off, espeically if he has to go over stuff. SHOULD NOT BE TEACHING
Worse teacher ever!! Seriously...
The worst professor, hate his approach of teaching. If you signed up for his class, drop it pronto!!
Good professor -- fairly well organized, has a website but doesn't post the class notes online. Assignments, midterms and exams were very easy (too easy maybe? nah). Not a statistician by trade (I think he's a programmer?) but a very smart guy and competent teacher.
Very difficult to understand, teaches very quickly and does not follow the procedures of the textbook which make it confusing to follow while doing questions.
Great Prof...He made the Calculus material understandable.
VERY HARD TO UNDERSTAND.. because he doenst speak english well, when student started talking he had trouble getting them to be quite... students didnt have much respect for him, which was dissapointing, because he knows his stuff, just not a very effective teacher...
Great Prof: I had him for Calculus 1. Made the material understandable.
He was one of my favourite profs!!! Sure he does have an accent, but if you listen you can understand him fine. He also is really funny because of his accent and is not afraid to laugh when he makes a mistake. He also is a genius when it comes to math and his teaching was very effective as his notes were full of examples. I wish I had him again.
At first I didn't really like his teaching methods, but the guy really doesn't want you to fail. His teaching style is filled with examples and he tries really hard to help you understand. If you actually pay attention, his course is easy, and he tries to help kids get an A.
hated every minute of his class, horrible at explaining things.
intelligent
I love this prof. He tries hard to explain and provides lots of examples. Accent is not much of a problem if you pay attention. :)
Good professor!
he explains concepts a few times in class but he is VERY difficult to understand
Save yourself the headache and time, just drop the course or find one with another teacher... :(. nice guy horrible teacher
......
Nice guy but hard to follow. Not clear all the time unless you REALLY REALLY focus. Better to read the textbook and learn.. Change sections if you can!
I thought this professor did not generate much interest in the material in the course.
The only thing I would say about him is his midterms are EASY and the final is a bit fair. DO NOT TAKE CAL2 WITH HIM AT ALL, HOWEVER, IT IS RECOMMENDED TO TAKE MAT1341 WITH HIM because his QS are easy. He doesnt explain the concepts clearly and it is difficult to follow him because his notes are confusing. He jumped from an example to another witho
quite a shocker of a professor.i had to study most of the stuff from youtube because his lectures are poor but the class average is usually so low that everyones grades go up..if your with him jus make sure u stay around the class average and u shud be fine..go through his lecture notes..gives similar questions on the exams sometimes
Ok so he's a little hard to understand sometimes, but he is very accomdating and for a man of 70 years old I found his teaching impressive!(He looks, acts and jokes like a youthful man!)
He gives by far the worst notes. Terrible explanations, usually does examples by skipping important steps. Asking questions is a no no, would just erase the board and rewrite it without answering the question. Class average for midterms was so low (~35%) that your final is your mark. Sometimes funny.
I have failed Calc II before. Why? Because I just had a really bad attitude towards math plus stupid choices of not studying.I knew I HAD to pass it this time. I admit it took a while to get confidence. Weixuan Li presents math by answering: How, Why do we do this calculation, & What YOU need to know how to do! It was clear, and AWESOME.
Well, you will have hard time in the beginning. His accent needs more careful lol. His notes are good. Do the textbook exercises! I was almost failing the course but I did very good in FINAL and he gave me A!! So work hard! Very useful when it comes to his office hours!
He's a little hard to understand sometimes because of his accent, but he is a good prof overall. He will always answer questions if people don't understand something in the lectures and basically tells you what to study for the exams. Do the textbook questions he assigns and pay attention in class and you'll do fine.
I don't know why he decided to teach the course in some random order; makes the whole thing messy and impossible to follow properly. Will give you the worst examples possible, skipping steps and simply copying his notes, while making mistakes. Goes so fast copying his notes that you won't catch a thing, and also unreadable. Course is easy tho.
AMAZING PROF! Everything is straight forward and he has great explanations. As long as you attend his lectures, you'll have no problem.
Going to class is beneficial since he uses his own examples and notes. He often explains the concepts more clearly than the textbook does. His exams are fairly easy if you take the time to learn the material. His accent makes him hard to follow sometimes but you can usually keep up with him.
Good prof, takes his midterm questions from the examples done in class. People like to complain about and blame his accent for their problems in the course but if you just pay attention and get over the fact that english is not his first language he's not hard to understand. show up to class and pay attention and you'll do well.
Horrible prof. He does not know how to teach. I would have really appreciated to have a math TEACHER not a prof who simply copies his own examples on the board.. I recommend that you read the text before attending class--his notes are only a source of examples. If I were you I'd try switch out of this prof's course while I still had the chance!
Love him as a prof, makes some funny jokes and uses really relevant examples in his lectures. Didn't TEACH integration very well though, had to figure it all out on my own for the final.
Really really nice prof, funny too. All he said in class are very helpful and important. Should have some class notes and examples posted online though.
I attended every class and by the end of the semester started experiencing rage toward him. Never ever ever ever again will I permit myself to take a course with him. He does not TEACH. Throws examples at you with minimal transitional 'explanations' and sends you home. Thank god for an amazing TA! Never, ever, ever, ever again!
If you pay attention to this class, you will get a good grade.
He's a nice guy but horrible prof. He is the hardest marker, one mistake will make you lose majority of your marks for that question. He asks complicated questions at times and the class avg was 40% for both midterms(so bad he said the final can be our final mark). Avoid him, switch out.
Terrible, must have boosted a ton of marks to get enough passes. Worst class I have ever taken
If you struggle with math, don't take it with this prof. I know a lot of people complain about Li's accent, but it's really not the problem... He just can't teach. All he does is write problems on the board and expects you to know how it's done. If you can't learn this way please for the love of god, do not take this prof.
Great prof! and im american! and still understood him perfectly.... p.s. "Cuut It!!!"
He is a very nice person, but he isnt very good with explaining the material. Hard to understand. His exams are short and not so hard but confusing. If you miss class u will miss a lot because he covers a lot in each lecture. He gives many examples in class and exams are very similar to those examples. dont miss the DGD's because they help a lot.
He is hard to understand at first but after awhile you get used to it He doesnt understand questions very well and take him awhile to understand what youre asking he makes a lot of mistakes in his examples He writes really fast and you basically have to scribble it down as fast as possible which makes it hard to listen and comprehend whats going on
Professor Li is clearly an excellent mathematician; he is not a very good teacher. I was able to do reasonably well in his class by doing all the textbook homework and by attending DGDs. Lectures are an exercise in futility - they are really not necessary.
Miserable prof with a thick accent! HE doesn't care for the students, doesn't have a website and doesn't even reply to emails..RUN AWAY!!!
He is very nice><
For a 75 year old I found that he had a lot of energy which I liked but other than that he wasn't a good teacher, his lectures would mostly consist of copying examples.
Once you get past his thick accent, he's easy to understand and tells you everything that will be on the midterms and exams, doesn't really teach you though just kind of gives examples, so I wouldn't recommend him if you haven't taken calculus before
great prof
Good prof,...
Go to class, do your assignments, review your notes and assignments and you'll do well in your midterms and finals :)
He was a funny guy who kept class interesting but wasn't very clear with his teaching. Go over class examples more so than the textbook questions as the textbook questions he assigned weren't very relevant to the exams.
A lot of people complain about his heavy accent - I'll admit it's at times hard to understand him. However, if you pay attention, do homework and study, you'll do fine.
Please don't make the mistake of taking him as your prof if you don't have a good background in Calculus..!!
Very difficult to understand and he doesn't use Balckboard at all.
Relies heavily on vocal lessons but has a thick accent. His notes on the chalkboard are disorganized, inconsistent and bears no consideration to students taking notes. Ultimately you can't understand what he's saying and you're left with his confusing notes. At least, write better notes so students can self-study, right? But his exams are easy.
His lectures are horrible. Overall, he is such a nice guy even though it is sometimes hard to understand him. The course is easy, so I basically just taught myself everything. Also his tests are easy and fair.
STAY AWAY!!
Many people don't understand him, but if you keep showing up in his lectures, you'll learn a lot! He likes giving examples in the lectures.
You will not understand a single world he is saying after the first lecture. Get ready to use online learning and use the text book is you are not sure about something. Don't bother asking him question during lecture or any other time, he will not give you a clear answer. Just to be clear the class second midterm's average was 18% out of 100%.
i was there for every class in MAT1320 and the class was one of my hardest courses that i have ever taken. couldn't understand him and when ever i asked for help he was never helpful at all.
Write down all the notes and DO the practice questions he assigns. His exams are the same as the examples he gives in class, the DGD's, and the practice problems.. Do this, you'll get an A. Look up his past year papers online as well as other professors and do them. Exam was easy if you studied.
Worst prof ever. Unless you are a math wizard you will have a difficult time in his class and will probably do poorly. He is extremely difficult to understand, skips a lot of steps, is not helpful, and makes midterms way harder than every other section. Switch out immediately!!!
Many people don't understand him, but after a few lectures you get used to the accent. He writes everything on the board and does many examples to further assist your understanding. If you have any questions he replied to emails almost instantly. The midterms were identical to what was taught in class but the final was tough.
The midterms are decently tough. The final is easier. Hes not the best lecturer but if you do your homework and practice the old final exams decently easy to pass
All around great guy, however his teachings are often unclear. He skips steps when explaining which is annoying if you are not the strongest in calculus. However if you stay on top of your work and practice the problems he does in class you should get a good mark in this course.
Don't take this dude's class. Just awful cant understand him, worst explanations, skips steps in his notes all the time. Straight up the worst prof I have had thus far. Notes are terrible, ended up teaching myself calc based off of khan academy and my friends notes from other classes. He's kinda jokes sometimes but he's a mess as a professor.
Really hard to understand.
Very tough to understand. He expects you to know all of his little tricks that he does in his examples. He likes to believe that a lot of math is simply "common sense". I would not recommend taking his class.
Midterm average was 35% said final could be our mark. Final was tough but not as bad as midterm. Still used our midterm marks that he said he wouldn't use. Often says up 40 percent of people fail.... he's not lying. Avoid
Midterm average was 35% said final could be our mark. Final was tough but not as bad as midterm. Still used our midterm marks that he said he wouldn't use. Often says up 40 percent of people fail.... he's not lying. Avoid.
Excellent professor. Extremely quick marking. Solutions to assignments and quizzes posted very quickly. Very clear on expectations. Very willing to help students outside of class. He provides you all the tools you need to do well.
If you know the fundamental maths concepts from highschool well you should be okay with this course. If u don't than understanding anything through this guy is next to impossible. He goes at his own pace as a guy with a PHD and takes shortcuts because he assumes everyone already knows how to use the methods. He demands u do it his way or no marks.
Awful.
If you don't have a solid base in calculus from high school, avoid this guy. His examples are not helpful at all and goes way too fast. One of the worst math profs KI ever had.
tell us that one of the two midterms don't count after second midterm, which makes students angry
worst prof I've ever had. very hard to understand what he is saying.
The guy is smart but has no ability to transfer the knowledge to his students. I recommend doing all the past midterms/exams in order to do well. Read his lecture notes and you should understand, going to class is really unnecessary because you will have no clue what he's saying.
He goes very fast in class and skips steps even when teaching something for the first time. His exams are challenging and they are half MC so you can't get part marks. His accent makes him difficult to understand at times.
Do not take his math, avoid him at all cost. He is terrible at explaining, heavy accent , hard midterms but easier final.
Good prof once you get to know him, extremely approachable and will give you hints. Really cares about students if you put in the effort
Hardest math prof. I learned most material from Youtube. Had to take his class because it is the only section available. Avoid if you can!
OK tbh in his class you gotta have a strong math background. he has really strong accent and I've never really listened or understood the things he said in class though i still attend. Asian people are very strong with math you need to admit this fact so he is strong in math, fairly speaking hes just not good with explaining his material.
Midterms are much harder compared to other profs. However, if it werent for the difficulty I wouldnt have worked so hard to fully understand all concepts. Exam questions are quite similar to supplementary questions and notes.
While it is true that this class is pretty freaking bad, I think it's more doable than people make it out to be as long as you don't make the mistake of relying entirely on the prof/his notes. DO THE HOMEWORK and you should be okay as his exams are very very similar to class examples. Get ready to work. At least no textbook to buy!
Failed his course, studied 2 weeks from online lectures on the mat1300 website from Dr. Blute and got an A- on the supplementary exam. POINT: DO NOT TAKE HIS COURSE
Took this guy for my summer Calc 2 class. Worst experience in my life. Cant believe I didn;t drop out and just take an online course.
Dr. Li is a great professor to those willing to put in work. MAT1341 is not a tough course and he introduces it as doable as long as you're willing to put in effort. Dr. Li is very approachable however English is not his first language and some questions may be lost in translation. Those taking his class should take advantage of his generosity.
Honestly this professor is great if you actually put in effort. Midterms and exam contain questions extremely similar to examples he explains in lectures. I understood everything completely just by going in to his lectures, but again you have to put in the work, passing a course isn't a responsibility for the prof only, but the student's as well.
He is a reasonable prof, with Standard lectures & midterms. I feel some of the reviews give him a bad image.
Phenomenal prof. I found his lectures confusing at first but if you go to class and pay attention, he's excellent at explaining complex topics. When you look back on the notes, they're incredibly helpful and clear. He really cares about you doing well and knows his stuff. Exams are hard but if you do the hw and class problems, they're not too bad
Although he's sometimes difficult to understand, his teaching methods are good and he explains every concept very thoroughly.
exams are very easy if you go to class, exactly like the practice questions he does. a bit hard to understand him but once you do he explains very well
I'm taking this class for the second time, and this time the prof can teach. He does several examples which are really helpful. Overall he went through the course content at an acceptable rate giving us well enough time to keep up with the content. If you attend class and go to the dgd's it's not so bad. Be patient, hes a pretty helpful guy
His accent is OK. Some things he explains very well, others he just rushes through examples. Midterms are NOT standard: 20%-40% will be tricky questions (learning the material alone is not enough), multiple choice questions require work that should be graded, only a few from several chapters will show up in the exam, usually the hardest
A very nice and kind professor and and teaching excellent, give good grades in both the midterm and final exam
He seems knowledgeable and you can tell he actually likes what he's teaching, however, you need to be paying a full 100% attention at all times to actually understand what he's saying and to navigate his notes and concepts. The class is kind of exhausting and a lot of outside times is needed to get a good mark in this class.
Taking this class was best choice I ever made. Despite the negative comments by others about his accent and such, hes super clear about his expectations. He clearly tells us about the content and format of his midterms and final. Just do practice material, DGD problems and assignments, and youll find the tests an easy A!
Midterms are super difficult. Try to avoid him or get ready to study by urself.
Be ready to study on your own. Absolutely useless prof as he speeds through questions without explaining. Good luck.
Accent is hard to understand and can go through Q's too fast in lecture. However he posts all his notes online. Midterms were challenging but the final was fair and similar to previous years. Do all the textbook problems and attend DGD's, I personally skipped most lectures. You'll have to do a fair bit of self teaching but overall it's fine.
Worst Professor I have ever taken. His accent is hard to understand, but I tried not to judge him for that, however, he still sucks. He can't teach whatsoever. He speeds through questions, doesn't explain anything that he's doing and sometimes even confuses himself. If he's the only prof available you're better off taking the course another time
It's my second time to take his course, his exams are super hard and you have to practice and remember various question types then you can get good grade. Don't take his course, you'd better to try other profs'.
He is completely clueless about teaching. He is extremely difficult to understand and does not explain what he is doing or why he is doing it. He just reads what he is writing on the board without explaining anything. Avoid at all costs. You will need to seek out external resources to learn the material on your own. The free PDF textbook is awful.
Difficult to understand, doesn't really teach well, just goes through exercises. Mid-terms are out of very few questions. Had a terrible time. Studied very hard and still got a bad mark.
Show up to class, sit at the front (strong accent) and take advantage of the practice questions he posts. The man will grow on you very quick and you'll see how passionate and talented he is in calculus. He wants you to succeed but only if you work for it - which is the right way. For the Chinese, feel free to spark conversation in your language!
I failed math, then retook it with Prof. Li. Got an A... I really liked him.
Weixuan is not a very good prof at all. His accent is hard to understand and he explains everything poorly (does not say WHY, only gives the steps). If you try to ask questions, he does a bad job of answering them. Be warned, the midterms were fair, but the final was way harder than any past finals that I had seen.
The guy needs to take ENG 1001 before he can teach a university math. His midterms are confusing and his sample packets do not match to the material on the final exam. Avoid at all costs.
Prof does lots of examples during class without explaining what we are doing. You have to teach yourself most of the course content. He posts review questions before midterms and the final exam, which reflect test questions.
Prof Li can be difficult to understand at times but genuinely cares for his students. If you are strong in math, you will have no problem with this course. Do the homework and assignments. If you are a visual learner, do NOT take this course online because he tends to read directly from his notes rather than write out the solutions to the problems.
Hard to understand. Just reads off a word document the whole semester. lots of homework. Tests are decent. Don't recommend.
Exams have subjects that are never seen on any assignments/review exercises. The overall teacher does not teach anything, personally, I learned everything from Organic chemistry and not from WeiXuan.
Professor Li provided super detailed notes and practice questions that were very similar to the midterms and exams. As long as you do the practice questions and DGD materials you'll do great!
I really liked Dr. Li! I found his practice tests were so similar the exams, he also gave out helpful notes. Do the practice tests until you understand the material and you'll get a good grade for sure. Calc is tough in general but he is a good, caring prof and willing to help. He also graded our finals really fast for a big class! Woud recommend
Aside from my understandable lack of understanding of the lectures due to the heavy accent, Professor Weixuan Li has not made an acceptable transition to online learning. Every lecture he read from cramped notes and no practise questions were done in the lecture either. I basically had to teach myself the entire course through youtube.
You have to teach yourself the whole course. He is hard to understand and just reads off of a word document the whole semester. However, tests and midterms were fair and he provides lots of good homework questions. In that way, if you are very independent then it won't be that bad. Lacks teaching ability.
Worst professor ever. Don't take him his class, doesn't know how to teach.
I absolutely hated this teacher. He would just read the notes during class. He made the material so boring. The assignments and the midterms were not distributed equally. His midterms and exam question were nothing like the examples in class and he taught us more things than other classes learned. NEVER AGAIN. Don't recommend. Avoid at all matters.
What a man...... I took this course pre-pandemic, what a gem of a man. He speaks very clearly and cares for his students' well-being.
Terrible lecturer. Incoherent notes which constantly had errors. Even the practice questions which he provided constantly had errors in the solutions. Midterms were difficult but doable. But the final on the other hand. Way too difficult for an exam which was 72% multiple choice. The multiple choice questions needed to be done on paper.
I had Li for MAT1322, and in all honesty, he conveys the material in a confusing manner, but the midterms and final were very similar to the examples that he did in class, and the review questions that he posted.
You have to teach yourself the whole class and the notes/lessons are so confusing. I had a mental breakdown the first class lol. Just please do yourself a favour and avoid this prof. He is the only one who knows what's going on in every lecture every student in my groupchat is lost.
Good teacher!
The midterm had an average of 20%, other classes with different professors had an average in the 60s and 70s. Reads off a PDF only, up until I decided to start teaching myself, I had never seen him do any examples. Terrible.
if you care about your mental health dont choose this prof. He literally reads off pdf's and doesn't teach anything. Midterms are like the practice ones except harder questions the content is similar to gr.12 calculus but more stuff is added. Anyway he doesn't care at all and makes no sense which is bad AND DOESN'T TEACH ANYTHING!!
Do not take his course. Reads from a PDF class and never touches a pen. Does no practice problems in class and the ones on the pdf are terrible questions that barely show you how to solve them. I had to learn the entire course by myself from the textbook and youtube. Midterms had terrible formats and the entire class average was less than 40%
HONESTLY, IF YOU'RE GOOD AT LEARNING ALONE (TEACHING YOURSELF) YOU WILL DO REALLY WELL BECAUSE HE POSTS PRACTICE FOR THE EXAMS THAT ARE VERY SIMILAR TO THE ACTUAL THING. BUT, IF YOU'RE ANYTHING LIKE ME AND YOU ACTUALLY WANT SOMEONE TO TEACH YOU, THIS IS NOT FOR YOU! AVOID LOL!
Run in the opposite direction from this professor. Accent is hard to understand. Does not actually show how to do the math, just reads over his notes on a shared screen and waves his little cursor over them. Never checked the chat and always started very early. DGD is a hit or miss, my TA had messy hand writing and never checked the chat too.
This professor is awful at teaching. He just reads off a pre written pdf for an hour and a half at a snails pace. Midterm average was 20%. This class is supposed to be the easiest of the 3 calculus. avoid this prof at all costs. You will have to teach yourself the whole course.
Professor Li is often unavoidable in engineering. His style of teaching is to just read off a PDF that is provided so prepare to teach yourself this course. Notes were mainly about theory and did not provide adequate directions on how to actually solve problems. Avoid him at all costs, if you can that is.
You are the factor of passing or not; Li as a prof is MID. I failed the first midterm, worked hard to pass the second midterm comfortably and thankfully passed the course. The resources are there to TEACH YOURSELF - Li's lectures are useless. Use your textbook examples, DGD questions, and Review Sets, and you'll be prepped for the exam.
Dont even bother attending the lectures if you take Li, he only reads off the slides and never picked up a pen. The first midterm was brutal with a class average below 40% and he does not curve. Youll be teaching yourself this course. Study the review questions if you cant avoid taking him!! One good thing is he kinda listens to students
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF. I got an A+ in the course since I spent hours teaching myself. So, if you find yourself being forced to taking this prof:The practice examples in his notes are basically the pool of questions that go on the exams. Study these questions, textbook problems arent as important. Dont attend lectures, waste of time.
The whole course is just him reading the slides and you have to teach yourself everything. Thank god for youtube cause it's the only reason I passed
Professor Li struggled to use his computer throughout the class (frozen screen, teaching an entire class with his mic muted). He spends the entire class reading through his notes. The notes contain no graphs and no visuals. His accent is so hard to understand. By the third week of the course, only 20/200 students attended it. Do not take him!
avoid this prof at all costs. He is worsttttttttttttttttttttt professors I ever had in my entire life including high school
Avoid him at all costs . Honestly he is terrible . his accent very hard too no teaching style . you will regret if you take math with him ... if you have to other choices its self study RIP and you will be study with youtube vedios .
do not waste your time . his voice(accent ) horrible teaching style garbage .. Take any other professors better than this an old asian guy
this guy never studied at university he is self taught he does not know how to teach . absolutely garbage ! do not take him
looks innocent but terrible teacher. Just reads off the slides. Only reads theory but tests on tough examples . If you can get a different prof I would.
Horrible professor , hard accent , do not know how to explain a damn subject . He used to be self thought so do not expect learn anything from him Avoid him at all cost
no partial marks at all. either full mark or zero for long answer questions Avoid him at all cost his . Accent even worst ..! Run in the opposite direction from this professor. Does not actually show how to do the math, just reads over his notes on a shared screen and waves his little cursor over them. RIP WHOEVER TAKES HIM
A terrible teacher with a really tough accent and almost 0 teaching skills. DO NOT SKIP HIS CLASS, sure everything is online and he pretty much just reads off of his slides but he'll sometimes outline specifically what he wants for a question on the midterm. Very annoying. Good luck if you have his class
Besides the very thick accent he is a really good teacher. Someone recently said that he doesnt go through any practice problems yet our last lecture when he introduced graph sketching he went through 5 in depth examples that you could see on the final exam. The worksheets and highlighted practice problems are exactly like whats on the midterms.
Dr. Li has very easy midterms, its basically the exact same as the practice problem sets he release before the midterms and the pdf which higlights specific problems in the textbook that should be completed. This course is literally grade 12 caluclus, the only things that are new are integration DTDS and derivative of inverse trig functions.
Very poor teaching style, so prepare for a lot of self-teaching.
In the beginning, I did not understand him at all - he has a very thick accent, and will mostly read off a lesson document without explaining his steps. I thought that I would build tolerance, but no, I did not haha. Midterms were suspiciously really easy (close to his lesson examples, STUDY THEM!), but the exam was horribly hard for no reason.
I honestly don't know why this profs rating is even this high. One of the worst to teach a calculus course. Just reads his notes, doesn't explain anything, and gives no part marks on the exams, except one-third of the final. Calculus does not come easily to me, so get ready for countless hours of video-watching if you're the same. Fr, good luck.
Math is a hard course, to begin with, if you do all the questions from dgd and class, you will be set. Prof Li does a great job teaching this class.
Lectures are read off of a PDF. The few examples provided are hard to follow. Theory based. Overcomplicated concepts that are covered in grade 12. Midterms were okay, but the exam and the format makes you question if you took the course. Poor experience unless you enjoy reading math typed up in Times New Romans font size 12 written horizontally.
Sure all the reviews talk about the bad things about Prof. Li, but, it comes down to understanding the content. He used the exact same questions from his lecture examples and explicitly told you what was on the exams. If you follow what he tells you to study for, you're good. Review content before and after, like any uni course, and you're good....
He was a nice old man, but can't really teach. He presents information in a very complicated way when there are alternative (very simple) ways to approach something. I don't know if he's teaching next year, but if you have him: you'll teach yourself just about every new concept if you don't want to fail.
I'm pretty sure he's retiring, but he is very hard to understand so expect to learn a lot on your own. A lot of the content, however, is review from high school. As hard as he and his notes are to understand and learn from, the examples and practice he gives is exactly what will be on midterms and final, so if you know those, you should be fine.
He wasn't a good teacher overall, only reads off his notes and it doesn't always make sense. His midterms are very easy and exam is very fair, copy a decent amount of dgd questions (same numbers and format). The curves near the end of the class was also very random. I did fine in the course due to it being very similar to gr 12.
