Great Professor! Loved him, smart, fun, great professor!

Professor Eckford is the best! He is a very smart and engaging professor. You will learn so much from his class. Most students who complain are the ones who are trying to get over. They dont want to learn anything. We studied everything from racial issues, economics, politics and we laughed all through the class. You will have to take a lot of note

I enjoyed prof. Eckford's 8-day class immensely. He lectured with passion and really helps you to see the core of an issue. Take lots of notes and you'll be fine. He wants to see that you can make connections to understand the underlying themes and reasons for events. Don't go in thinking you can just memorize stuff. You'll learn alot from him.

Prof. Eckford is the best at LACC. Don't listen to these LACC dumb & lazy students. Are you one of them? Do you study? Do you turn in your assignments? He is hard, but he helps you to see underlying issues. Go to class, take notes and STUDY! BEST CLASS AT LACC. If you can pass his class then you can do well at UC or CSU or USC.

LOVED Dr. Eckford. One of the most articulate, thoughtful, and intelligent people I've ever met. He knows his subject backwards and forwards. He is extremely charming and witty. It was an absolute joy to be in his class. Run and enroll in one his classes -- you will be happy you did.

he makes the class very interesting.you need to be there for every class and participate in class.he grades by the level of your understanding of the material, not by repeating what you have studied.the exams are in form of essays.i learned a lot from him.he does like to make fun of people,so what.most fun history class i have taken.

He's a fine teacher, he just doesn't put up with crap, which is why some students don't like him. He spells out what's expected, and it's not unreasonable stuff. Show up on time, study, turn off cell phones, and ask questions. He was always very willing to discuss things during and after class if anyone didn't understand. I learned a lot.

DR. E's classes are very good. Study, Study, study and then study some more and you will really get something out of the class. Yes, he grades easy if he likes you because he likes all students that study.

Professor Eckford is crazy. He is the best Professor at LACC. You have to STUDY!!!!! No way to get around it. If you don't study you will fail. So, if you want some laughs, good information take him. If you are looking for an easy grade...forgetaboutit.

I took History from Professor Eckford and dropped the course after the first two weeks. I thought his course was confusing and too hard. I enrolled in Fonsecas course and learned that Fonseca is boring, not teaching and needs to retire. I regret not keeping Prof. Eckford.

This was a fun class. But you gotta come to class, be on time, and DO THE WORK, or you will fail the class. If you do the work and study you will get a good grade. Remember, this is college not high school.

Word to your Mother...I took the class and dropped it. I thought he was crazy. I re-added the class after sitting in on other classes and being bored. You have to figure out where he is going but when you do....man Eckford is the best teacher at the school...no doubt! Take the class!

Prof. Eckford Changes Lives!I would not recommend this class for those students who are weak-minded, lazy, and unmotivated to learn. I would recommend this class to those students who are serious about their educational goals and who are interested in learning the TRUTH about the history of the United States. In this class, only the strong survive!

Pros: The subject matter and delivery of the lectures are very interesting. He explains things if you ask. Not many essays were given out. Cons: Inflexible, tough grader, a little overly concerned with small details in your papers so make sure it's PERFECT.

I agree with the comments by many who say that the material is the best. Great Professor probably the best at LACC. But you better study and study some more. If you pass his class then you probably are a good student. Lazies and deniers better take Moon or Fonseca but they will not teach you anything and will rip you off...stay with Dr. E.

A life changer, indeed!I did not need History but simply accompanied my friend on first day and I was sold by this professor and added the class.He enhanced my critical thinking skills far greater than any other course and I'm an aerospace major. He is a serious educator and mere fact gathering is not at all tolerated.He demands you use your head!

I know the student who wrote the comment below..he is a friend of mine. I hate to hurt their feelings but they are wrong. Dr. Eckford is not rude or vague, or play favorites. You have to study! Students at LACC are lazy and don't want to work. Dr. Eckford is the best Prof. at LACC and you will learn! If you got a C you earned it.

Well organized. Notes, study guides, sample papers, and other useful information on his website. You need to study or you will fail the course. The final exam is basically easy but if you were not paying attention all semester you will fail the final. He is a very good professor and you will learn a lot of history. Probably best class at LACC.

Keep it up, Dr. Eckford! He IS a life-changer, indeed. I am definitely taking him for History 12. I know he will be demanding and you will be studying hard, but that's where the difference between the winners and the rest is, right?

I had Prof. Eckford for the 8 day class with the person below. That student didn't even know the difference between UC and CSU and says they got an A in English? I'm sure! You failed because your lazy or you probably just need to get a job. Oh, Prof. Eckford was an architect for 20 years..I don't think he has probs. paying bills. So get a life.

Eckford is really tough. You have to study or you will fail the course. If U are looking to get over forget it. But the class is really good! He knows his history and fails all students that don't do the work. But I was able to pass Poli Sci 1 & 2 with A's because I learned in his Hist. 11 course. Eckford is dabomb!

Study, study and study. If you do these simple three things you will get an A. If U actually learn something U will do well later in other classes. Come to class, stay awake, ditch the cell phones and you will be ok. Highly recommended for USC and UC bound students. Not rec. for slackers..he is fine too!

To be honest I don't like history but I learned a lot like how the country was set up for the rich and not a place for the poor. He is the best prof. I have had at City so far. I heard he was leaving? Study and study you will do well.

Everything was made really easy. Lecture notes given for entire class. Lectures really good. However, you must study. This is not a professor for slackers. If your not serious about college it will show and you will flunk! I learned a lot and felt sorry for slackers who got tore up in his class. Do come if you can't deal with college level work.

You MUST study to pass. Clear lectures, & lecture notes, let us write two final exam essay questions. If your a student that didn't do well in high school I suggest you take another class. At the end of the day the best professor I have taken at LACC. NO WHINERS!

Prof. Eckford made the class enjoyable. Lots of stories, good lectures. On line lecture notes and slides. You just come to class and pay attention, ask questions and study, study, study. Not a class for slackers and people who don't have their stuff together. One of the top 5 classes I have had at LACC or any college for that matter.

Assignments were two-page papers for which a lot of library research was required, and there was one due almost every week. Lot of work for a 2-unit class. Still, he let us do open note for the final. Cool guy, but it was a hard A.

I took Eckford' history 11 class this semester so I know the person complaining. They complained about everything. LOL. This is a REAL college level course. its not high school sweetheart. So you have to read, study and study! You must come to class and study some more. The final was easy, but I know complainer failed. So go if you wanna learn.

I took African American studies with him and I loved it Ilearned new things. But he doesn't really use the textbook. But you must absolutely review the notes he gives you in class or elseyou will not pass. This classis no forslackers and you definetely do alot of sudying. But overall he'seaching style is good!

I am taking his class now online and...don't take this course if you're trying to bs. If writing is not your strong-point, I would check out your alternatives and save your self the stress. Great class that you can learn at your own pace but the instructor is very harsh on grading no matter the depth of your content.

Great teacher. Took this class in Winter so it was short. Didn't use the textbook at all. He gives lecture notes and the rest is available on google. Easy class and easy going guy. Recommended.

I agree that Prof. Eckford is the best Prof. at LACC. However if you are a slacker and don't want to work you will be EXPOSED, stay away! If you want to learn, transfer to a good university take his class he will prepare you.

Cool Professor. Really helpful but you gotta go to his office. Do your own research, work hard, study, come to class, no sleeping, no cell phones. Best class I have had at LACC.

I totally agree with the comments below. Dr. Eckford is the best Professor at LACC. Now this doesn't mean he is the easiest. You have to study, come on time, turn off your cell phone, do the work and study then study some more. But he will prepare you and you will learn what you need to know to be successful. His classes are fun too.

Really inspiring and helpful. This is a really fun class but you better come to work. Lots of interesting material and you learn a lot in class. Discussions are really fun!

Some have used the term work, as in come ready to work, but that is hardly accurate. What they mean to convey is come ready to think. Dr. Eckford embodies many things that are normally in conflict. Amazing professor, if you want to learn and not just memorize facts, he is the professor to take, but YOU have to do your part, read the assignments, ask questions, and do your own research. One of the best professors I've ever had.

Dr. Eckford expects you to dig deep, to not just read the texts but to research & think deeply on them. He can be a harsh grader, but is always available to give genuinely helpful feedback. His wit verges on cutting, so don't take it personally if he teases you a bit. Never boring; awesome teacher if you like to be intellectually challenged.

Best prodessor at LACC! If you want to learn take Eckford< if u want an easy A then take some one else. This class is NOT for SLACKERS!!! I also took History 12 and AfroAmer 7. He prepares you for University classes. Study Study Study, and you will pass with an A. He teaches the truth no BS in his class

SLACKERS BEWARE! If you want to become educated then Prof. Eckford is the professor you want to take. If you want to sneak by because you are a poor student or a slacker, trust me this is not the class for you. Everyone else you will learn to think and to write well.

If you are lazy and don't feel like learning and are JUST trying to get your GEN ED classes....Take it with someone else! He is passionate about teaching and motivating students to learn. He seems tuff, but in reality is giving us the medicine we will get at a CSU or UC. If you want to learn, and write well be smart and take Eckford!

I transfered from a four year university to LACC to come to California. I will be transferring to UCs in the fall. Prof. Eckford is one of the top five Professors I have ever taken. You must come prepared. If you don't want to work or just don't want to be in college do not take his classes. He is tough, but fair and wants you to learn.

So you have a few students that probably say that Prof. Eckford is hard and lousy. Remember this is LACC. Students that claim they have 3.9 and did well are probably lying. Now don't get me wrong Prof. Eckford is demanding. He wants us to do well and learn. Those that complain are probably lazy and shiftless. Be prepared to work. But you will learn

The class I took was intense. He treats the class as if it were at a UC level, and it isn't. I thoroughly expected to fail this class, he grades hard, but lets you re-write papers until they are A's. This class is a lot of work if you want to do well.

His class is challenging, but he's there to help you every step of the way. His class was the first "real" college course I took. It made me use my brain and I am so grateful to have had him as a teacher.

Great instructor, his students' educational future is top priority. He prepares his students for UC'S & USC. His demands challenge the student and create an educated responsible student prepared for transfer and future success. Dr.Eckford, was the most challenging class while I attened LACC. This class will help you write a college research paper. Although challenging it was the most satisfying class.

I took this class for the spring and it was very demanding but also very informative he is an excellent professor knows what he is talking about he comes off as non approachable but is quite the opposite if you struggle with writing dont worry he is open for direction he cares a lot about helping those who want to succeed do just that he is GREAT

Dr Eckford is one of the best professors I've ever known! He treats the class on a UC level, which means you can't come in if you're a minute late. His grading is fair and he is very helpful because he wants you to do well. No slackers please.

I loved him!! He's strict but his lectures are very interesting. He's too smart for LACC. He will make sure that those who really care about education will move on. I would take him again no matter what!

Best professor at LACC, I have taken 4 classes with him and would definetely take more. Work hard and class will be easy. Real college professor.
