Great teacher-keeps you interested. Lots of out of class assignments but are easy and helps your grade a lot.
She's awesome! Easy and has soo much extra credit it is hard to not get an A
Easiest class I've ever taken, but still learned a lot.
Great Class! Outside papers but were very easy and helped grade a lot. She was very informative and made class fun.
She is a great instructor. Gives out plenty of extra credit in case you do bad on an assignment or two. She kept things interesting and relevant to modern society. Highly recommend her.
Only take CJ with Hume if you are a CJ major, or if you love getting bored to death. Even though she is an easy prof she is a horrible lecturer. I hated this class, but it was easy.
I loved this class! Professor Hume is a great teacher. Her lectures are interesting and clear. There are quite a few assignments, but they are pretty easy and you learn a lot. Her powerpoints are very helpful but make sure you read the book too!
Professor Hume is AWESOME! She is a great lecturer and always keeps class interesting and fun. I highly recommend her.
Professor Hume's class is interesting and the tests/assignments are easy.
I love her! Tests and assignments are very easy. I actually enjoy this class!
Lectures were so boring & put ppl to sleep. I am interested in this subject and I dozed off at times. Overall if u do all the homework & study a little for the tests u should be fine. If u dont want lots of homework, dont take this class. No need to read the book, just skim it b4 tests & attend class & take notes & u will be fine. few EC pts offered
Very boring lectures. Spends a lot of time over explaining but tests and assignments are pretty easy. Not a hard class to pass, just not very interesting, even for CJ majors.
Very Easy class. 90% of questions on tests from notes. If you do all the homework and assignments and extra credit, super easy A. Only problem I had was some lectures were boring and she didn't answer my emails.
As long as you go to class, take notes, and do the homework you will get an easy a. Her tests come almost purely from notes so you don't really need to read and the homework is worth more overall than test grades. She also offers a lot of extra credit.
I enjoyed her lectures very much. She gives very good examples and connects the subject with the real world. Lots of extraredit and tests were basicly all off of notes. Great teacher!
Great Professor! Very friendly and helpful.
Awful lecturer, and the TAs were not so helpful either. Uses TAs to completely take care of many of her assignments. There is also a lot of homework, and outside work to be done. It's like she's turning the class into a social awareness/Univ Life 101 class. Her over-explanations to things that are common sense irritate and annoy me.
Most boring professor ever. Her lectures put me back to sleep at 8 am. She also does this thing where she refers to police and lawyers and such as "we" like she's one of them. Lot of homework that doesn't pertain to the class, pretty easy exams. Notes not on Blackboard. If you want to go back to high school, take this class.
Lectures are terrible, takes her MONTHS to grade tests. Easy to get an A but painful to go to class. Tests are basically 100% from the notes.
One of the best professors I have had! Took both CJ201 + CJ361. They both require work, but she makes it very interesting! She has great knowledge and personal experience from many years in the CJ field! If I ever had a problem, I would talk to her and she would be very understanding and helpful! I absolutely recommend Wendlin's CJ classes!
One of the worst professors I have had. She will get through about 3 PowerPoint slides per lecture because she does not know when to stop talking. Still don't have my test grade when I took the test three months ago. Made going to class awful and not enjoyable. If it is possible find another professor.
She may come off mean at first but she's actually very nice and helpful, understanding of missing a class or 2. I've made a great connection in the CJ department in Dr. Hume. She answers any questions I could think of Criminal Justice related.
Terribly slow lecture consisting of reading PowerPoints. I would not recommend this class from this teacher. She may be knowledgeable but she is a waste of an instructor. She says not to remember stats of police, courts, and corrections but she puts them on the test. Absolutely terrible class with an even worse teacher.
She is VERY boring. Had such a monotone voice. The homework has absolutely nothing to do with what we learned in class. The tests are a little hard because she asks questions that she never taught. I wouldn't reccommend this class if you don't have to take it.
Awesome Instructor! All she expects of her students is maturity and respect. She's very knowledgeable in the department. Her assignments are easy, fun and directly applicable. I would take another one of her classes in a heartbeat.
This class made one of my favorite subjects unbearable for a semester. You'd go through a max of 6 slides in the 75 minute class. Notes are minimal, when I studied the essential learnings I never opened my notebook, I just used the book. You HAVE to read because in class you won't learn anything necessary. Completely irrelevant busywork.
Sitting in her class is a painful experience. She talks very slow and monotone and hardly ever gets to the point. In a 75 minute lecture class, she only makes it through about 5-7 slides of information. She loves to go on tangents about nothing. This class is nothing but busy work and is very slow paced.
Lectures were long-winded, monotonous, and scarcely covered enough relevant material. Often went off on tangents. Homework rarely had any connection to the notesbook; really just loads of busy work. Only grades exams (scantron) herself, all homework is graded by TAs. Long periods of time between turning in work and receiving a grade for it.
There is a lot of busy work, but for the most part it is pretty easy to get done. Her class can seem drawn out at times but it is not that bad. I would recommend her!
Dr. Hume is a great professor. Although she has some dry lectures she does crack a few jokes. I was interested in her curriculum which is probably why I never fell asleep in her class while other students did.
By far the worst professor I have ever had. Disorganized, rambles on about irrelevant things, and horribly dry and long lectures.
If you are thinking about majoring in criminal justice or forensic science, GOOD LUCK. Long, off topic lectures that have nothing to do with the subject at all. Very slow at grading, and the exams are only worth 8.8 points. The reading is so horribly self written by her, and overly repeats what she said. I would not recommend her.
This class was literally a joke. Our homework consisted of reading articles and relating it to lecture, along with crossword puzzles and word searches. Definitely an easy A if you just do all the work and go to class. Notes aren't online and exams are based off lecture. Lectures are VERY long and boring, but you can do other hw or watch netflix.
I am not a fan of her at all. The class itself was easy, but yet a joke at the same time. A definite easy A, so long as you can complete the homework. She is quite scatterbrained at times and will fly off track many times during a lecture. Also, she seems to be terrified of the internet. The readings are written and put together by her.
Just bad, and expensive. She wrote her own text and workbook for the class and all materials written horribly, seemingly unedited. Lectures are almost word for word from the e-book (another required purchase) and every joke she makes in class is also there. Participation requires buying subscription service. Her class is easy, but $500 required.
Absolutely terrible. She takes FOREVER to make it through even one slide, doesn't have any idea how technology works, and worst of all is her textbook. She wrote it herself and must not have any understanding how to type. Worst professor I've ever had
Way too much homework that does NOT pertain to the tests/lecture. Easy points, but the lecture is EXTREMELY dry. And you're paying $130 for the online workbook plus $25 for an attendance counter (TopHat). Honestly, you could learn more about criminal justice by watching prison docs on Netflix. Its mostly puzzles and writing summaries.
Victimology is a class where you learn all about victims. Dr. Hume is a great professor, and an inspiration in the field, I have never met a more caring and genuine professor. She is very fair, in grading and when having in late assignments. She makes class fun by having class activities like bring your pet to school day, or baking cookies.
Hume's lectures and class is a joke. If you want an easy A take any of her classes. She spends her time in class talking about unrelated content. She makes you pay for a $130 e-book that she wrote. She also makes you pay for a TopHat subscription which you never use. This class was required for my major but was a huge waste of money and time.
I would defintely reccomend taking MS Hume classes again. She is very nice and caring teacher if you actually show up to her classes and try to do your best in her class. However there is a lot of busy busy work such as puzzles/hw etc.
Good class but lots of homework. The homework is easy, but tedious. She is a solid choice for a professor.
Very lecture-heavy. Her tests are solely based on the online textbook that you buy at the beginning of the semester in which I only went to class to get attendance points. Homework is very elementary school level (crosswords, unscramble words, word cross) but does have about a 2-page paper that goes with each assignment but is not difficult.
If you want to take a nap during a class, then here's your chance. At the start of the semester you have a buy a book that she wrote herself and then spend more money on the TopHat app, all so she can TAKE ATTENDANCE which is mandatory. Lectures are very boring but good for if you want to catch up on homework in other classes. Work is very easy.
If you put time and effort into it you can receive an A. She assigned puzzles relatively every week which was just busy work which was annoying. I tuned out every lecture because I find the process of the criminal justice system boring and it resulted in average test results. Professor Hume is really nice though and respects her students.
Super easy but super boring class. She cares a lot but she tends to ramble. Tests are hard but she gives so much extra credit it doesnt really matter.
Showed up to class every time just sat in back with headphones and watched youtube. Make sure you do all your work and turn it in and you should be fine. Also make sure you do extra credit as it helps the grade a lot. The grading is weird, I had 75 points out of 90 in the class the day before the final and ended up with a 97.5 so don't worry.
This is the most frustrating class I have taken as a UND student. She makes you buy a textbook she wrote herself, and then buy a TopHat subscription to take attendance. She doesn't even lecture, she rambles on about pointless things and expects you to show up to class every time. Plus, her online lectures are like 100 minutes long. Ridiculous
This class has been one of the worst i've taken. She is a super nice professor and cares about her students but she makes you buy a textbook that she wrote, takes attendance but wants you to watch her lectures online at home. You have a ton of busy work & half the time i didn't know what would be on the tests because she rambles on about nothing.
By far the worst class I have ever taken. Textbook for the class was written by the professor and contains many grammar errors, personal philosophies, false information and has horrible setup. She takes attendence, yet uses the whole class time talking about irrelavant information. She then provides several hour long lectures online. Waste of money
Super boring. She just rambles on about random police stories. Monotone and very VERY quiet. Don't need to pay attention in class but go to class for points.
If you plan on taking this class, I would recommend just doing it online. Lectures are long and not much material gets covered because she spends time talking about other things. She is a nice professor and easy to talk to but the class itself did not meet my expectations.
Randomly uses Tophat, not often though. Boring lectures, I usually worked on CJ homework during lectures.
Yeah, attendance is mandatory, but as long as you do your homework you'll be fine. She puts the lectures online too, so you can literally just show up and play games on your phone. She does throw in some interesting stuff in the in class lectures, so it's not totally a waste of time to go.
Hume is quite a character. First of all her lectures are very heavy and very hard to pay attention to, with her going off topic a great amount. Also the first 20 mins of class she alway blabs on about homework and other things that could easily be said on black board. She wrote her book herself and it is filled with spelling and grammar errors.
Required to buy the textbook she wrote 17 years ago. Totally out of date references, links that don't even work. Material covered could be taught in about 6 days. Gives the most writing assignments, reading assignments, and multiple choice quizzes. Like someone gave her a list of all the ways to assess students and she chose all of the above.
WAY too much homework, felt like I was constantly drowning in busy work that wasn't relevant to the course. At least 1 essay a week with puzzles and quizzes. Lectures extremely boring and repetitive, she also posts videos that are several hours long. Her voice is slow and monotone. Tests were way too specific. Don't take unless you hate yourself.
Prof Hume is a great person. If you genuinely have something going on in your life, she acknowledges that and will accept late work without penalty. Her tests are kinda hard but if you read the textbook you will be fine. There is a LOT of homework for this class, like a LOT. It ends up being about 40% of your grade.
I would not take her class, she is too old to be teaching. She does not even grade anything on time, the semester is almost over and she has not graded anything. Too much busy work, her lectures are too long and she rambles a lot. I'd give her a one star
Professor Hume's lectures consisted of off-topic conversations, side conversations with herself, and she was very quiet/slow. She's very nice but not a good teacher. She gives busy work that is confusing in accordance with what you are currently reading in the textbook. She does not grade nor email in a timely manner. Grading system is horrible.
oh she is so slow and monotone so boring I could barely stay awake during lecture she talks so slow and flat, she's also super repetitive so you don't learn much. Exams have nothing to do class materials and there's at LEAST one essay every week. Good luck.
Great teacher, but a lot of homework. If you show up and do your assignments, you will pass or get a good grade (depends on your effort) But overall she is fair and always available when you need her.
There are some assignments you need to complete but its so easy if you just do it and you get points for going to class. So many opportunities for extra credit, kind of funny she takes role but you get points for it. I am interested in the subject so maybe it is easier for me but get the work done and the A is there.
She does not lecture on anything relevant for the course. She offered an optional project to participate in, said it wouldnt affect us and then the people that did not participate got docked points. There is nothing in the grade book and it solely is based on participation. She treats you like a 5 year old and is unreachable by email/out of class.
The grade for the class comes from participation & journals. The participation grade is not regularly updated so you never know if you are getting an A or an F. Each journal is about 1-2 pgs, & 3 are assigned per week. She doesn't grade the journals regularly so they build up into chunks of 20+ and become a crazy amount of work. She is nice though.
Shes a nice teacher but if she never answers her emails. Its like she picks and chooses which ones to answer. You also never know your grade because she doesnt update them. You do need to show up because you will miss out on points if you dont. Finding where to find things can also be confusing at times
She is an overall nice person, however, she takes more than an unacceptable time to grade tests. Some homework assigned are crossword, word search, and word unscrambler puzzles, which may seem relatively easy, but that is assigned on top of her other course-load which is truly just a waste of time. She took over a month and a week to grade a test.
Wendelin sucks she doesnt grade anything until the end of the year good luck getting feedback or response to any emails
She does not grade anything so you never know what your actual grade is. There are so many assignments and it is hard to keep up with this class if you have a full schedule. She rambles on in class (which is mandatory for points) then posts the lectures online to watch.
Worst professor I have ever had. First class I'm ever going to fail simply because the class is so painfully bad. Dropping my CJ minor because of her. Makes you feel like a 5th grader. Does not grade assignments until the end of the semester. Makes you buy HER $100 textbook. So many pointless assignments that are just busy work. NEVER TAKE HER.
She doesn't grade things timely and assign a lot of busy work. She also holds 2 lectures a week but assigns a ton of lecture videos that she expects you to watch when she doesn't talk about anything important during her in person lecture. I spent most of my time doing crossword puzzles and word searches. As a CJ major I have learned nothing.
Mandatory classes with 1 1/2 long lectures of rambling and side conversations. She takes an absurdly long amount of time to grade anything. Most things were still not graded by finals week. Took me 4 emails, over 3 weeks, and involving my disability advisor to get her to respond to my email about meeting to discuss my disability accommodations.
It is nice that she provides this class in person and online so you can choose, but I would not recommend her as a professor. She takes forever to grade your homework and tests so you do not know your overall grade until it is too late to change it. Overwhelmed with the amount of lectures and homework assignments.
if you want to learn anything, take rachel jordan's weekly class, all you do is submit a discussion, reply to 2 posts, assignment & a quiz, hume thinks youre a child & for some reason wants you to learn through puzzles, you save much more time with jordan
This is my 1st and only class with Hume. I refuse to take another. She is disorganized, doesnt follow her syllabus, slowest grader I have seen in my 4 years of undergrad and never responds to emails unless you get the Dept chair involved. I would avoid taking her classes the work isnt hard, but the class set up and Hume are enough to ruin it.
SLOWEST GRADER EVER. Grades are due in two days and my last two tests still aren't in. Books aren't really required but helps for some assignments. Weekly assignments are way too difficult. 1-2 two-hour lecture videos a week. Puzzles for some reason that are a waste of time. Quizzes are difficult because they're worded so weird but passable.
Overall wasn't the worst class I've taken, but still not great. She takes forever to grade, at the time I'm writing this I still have two tests and several assignments needing to be graded. There are a lot of assignments and lecture videos to get done, but thankfully she is pretty understanding/willing to give extra time if you email her.
The textbook is only sold two places and is $121 at the cheapest. It's the textbook her and her sister wrote and she uses college students to line her own pockets. She takes attendance per student in every single class and since there was 170 students in my course this took about have of the class time before we even got into the lecture
Hume is a very slow grader, all tests are online in Blackboard so you don't need to go to class that day. Towards the end of the semester if you go to class one day she will give everyone who showed up an A on the final exam. Overall it's pointless to go to class because all of her lectures are online so basically it's a waste of time.
This was probably the easiest class and professor i have taken, there is no real need to show up to class, but the participation points are huge so i recommend going. She is a SUPER slow grader and I would not take another class because she assigns to many assignments for too many kids and cant keep up.
She is such a slow grader. Took her over a month to grade a test. There are multiple assignments of mine that are still not graded. Participation matters as you get graded on that too. She rambles on in class about random things instead of lecturing. You have to watch videos online and take notes on your own time.
I didn't read the reviews below me and now I'm doing four dozen word searches and crosswords every week
Hume is a horrible professor and was a horrible introduction to the CJ department at UND. All work is done outside of class and the lectures are her rambling on about nothing of substance for over an hour. She assigns essentially nothing but busy work with puzzles that are work one or two points each. Don't take her or do it online.
Literally rambles about absolutely nothing, takes attendance at the end of class, doesn't proctor exams, lets you do exam essay questions in advance, just busy work assignments, crossword puzzles, word scrambles, word searches almost weekly, moronic class.
Talks a lot mainly about things she has already discussed and posted. Takes attendance but not until the very end and it is more of an exit slip where you answer many questions. Doesn't grade many things on time but also doesn't care if you turn things in late. Lots of assignments that were pointless and busy work.
She took forever to grade exams; I didn't get exams back until after finals week. she also was a tough grader, and if your work wasn't exactly what she wanted, she would take points off. She did not lecture in class even though attendance was mandatory.
take this class online it's not worth your time or money. I'm been sitting here for an hour and we are talking about nothing important. so much busy work, you have to come to class just for her to say nothing and then makes you watch 2 hour videos on your own time. and she'll keep you in class for another 10-20 minutes after class is done.
The professor is nice, but the class is just busy work and loads of out-of-class homework. In class periods, she just talks about random stuff that's not on topic. Also is a very slow grader and was not knowing my grade until literally the last week of school because the grade isn't public during the semester.
Easy class, but the tests made no sense. Go to class everyday, it's a large part of your grade, but she won't talk about much. Lectures are posted online, but insanely long. Too long. Like one of them was 3 hours. She'll notice if you try though
All she does is over explain the simplest of terms. She spent ten minutes teaching us what a word search was. SHE IS VERY NICE don't get me wrong, but don't cover your syllabus and then start repeating everything ten minutes later. She basically mansplains everything students know and has spent the last ten minutes telling us how to read websites.
I am sitting in class right now and I am wonder what she has talked about over the last 45 minutes. You have to teach yourself everything. She is nice but she rambles on...
This is the most boring class you will ever take. She doesnt grade pretty much anything till the end of the semester so you will not know your grade until its to late.
