He gives you all the tests and the exams before time. This first half of the class was awesome but the second half it was really boring. This class is an easy way to get a good grade if you can put up with his mood swings..

Wow I think your wrong. He was a better prof then most of my other ones. He was very helpful with exams and tests. A blast to listen to(i didnt think Fathers could say some of the stuff he did, hahaha). Some students werent mature enough, hence the moods.

It was a great course, he encouraged his students to 'feel' religious in our work for the class. A lot of knowledge was shared, no doubt. Do be sure though to ask all clergy their religion and denomination (especially if they leave it undeclared)

I think hes a Lutherian. Didnt matter really. He made it clear that we were in university not sunday school.
I was surprised to see him teaching a course on Love, and so was he! He is doing a good job so far, keeping us all pretty interested in the course, and can be quite humorous!
very clear and concise
A nice prof. he is helpful and a pretty easy marker. He is a stickler on attendance and hates people leaving and coming in late (understandable) but he does get moody! He gives exam questions before so you can prepare well! If you work, he'll help!
What a twit. Expects students to come to class and gets cranky when they don't. Readings way too long. Stuff on the exam that wasn't in the textbook. Can't manage technology beyond a piece of chalk.
not bad, not the best.
He IS AMAZING, HELPFULL, AND His COMMENTS HELP ALOOOOOOT, DEFINITELY I RECOMMEND ANY CLASS WITH him.
Joined his class hoping to learn about other religions, but his Christian bias makes it hard to tell if what he's saying is factual or not.
Intresting teacher, and pulls it off pretty well for a 8:30 class
I don't enjoy his class, if you don't like to read, or attend class for a whole year, it's not the best course to take. He's too cranky and moody. We are paying for him to teach us so why does he dock marks for not attending? Pwer trip. DOn't like him or his class!
Eisener is an excellent prof who prepares interesting lectures and is very accessible. THe previous comment said that if you don't like to read or go to class to avoid him; if you don't like those things you're wasting your time in university. Eisener will help you out; just do your work and talk to the man; you'll see there're few profs as good.

Whoever said he was an easy marker is an idiot. He marks very hard especially on tests..and he doesnt have a christian bias at all, if anything he has a buddhist bias. Not the greatest teacher, most people in the class thought they got 80's on his last test but most ended up getting 50's somehow. Hes tolerable but not very good at all
Buddhist bias? He's a priest...This class is an easy pass if you attend and study for the tests, which he gives you to take home. He doesn't like to give out A's. He definitely has the ability to piss people off. And his jokes are absolutely terrible.
This prof is extremely fair with tests. Attendance is manditory, but if you attend and you'll notice he tells you whats on the test. If your looking to improve your GPA, this would be a helpful class.
i can say with confidence that this class wouldn't interest me if it wasn't taught by this guy. i love him! he doesn't have a bias, and he makes it very clear. he's not a hard marker, and he actually engages with his students instead of just giving a lecture. if u want to be truely inspired, i highly recommend his class!!! :)
I really enjoyed taking all of the courses I did take from Wendell. He is a great person in and outside of class. His uses the Pdrive and posts his notes there, but it does help to go to class. All of his notes are on powerpoint and he's very clear when explaining things and answering questions. I loved it!
Wendell is a outstanding teacher. His class is actually very interesting and almost all of his lectures are easy to fallow. He gives you class notes every class and they have questions on the bottom of them that appear on your test!! Great teacher, easy and enjoyable class, just goto every class and its hard not to do well.

He's an amazing prof! If you don't like going to class everyday, don't take his course. He is a fair marker and is always willing to help. His lectures are really interesting - I've learned alot! I would strongly recommend him. Can't wait to take more of his courses!
Extremely boring class. Prof talks way too much about his personal life. Marking scheme is easy if you know what he is looking for. Often course material was uncomprehensible.
One of the most offensive Profs I've ever had.
If you don't go to class every day don't bother taking his courses. He's always willing to help and will explain something many different ways until you understand. If you know what he's looking for tests and essays are easy, and he usually tells you some of what's on the test the class before. He's a good prof so long as you put in some effort.
For his religious studies class, he is a great prof. He is very passionate about what he is teaching. He follows the text very closely which makes it easy to study, and posts notes on the p drive to help. His tests are challenging and he is a tough, but very fair marker. If you go to his class and participate in discussion, you should be fine.
Class pretty much sucked. Talks too much about personal life which has NO relation whatsoever to the course. No one read the textbooks(even he said it) First year in university and this is the only teacher who doesn't post notes. Neither does the little bit of notes he writes in class help.
Lectures are like stories, Readings are not long, they usually follow his lectures so it's easy to study. He sometimes gets angry beyond reason and embarrasses people or makes them feel stupid, and then thinks its funny. I would definitely take on of this classes again, but wouldn't wanna be caught in his cross-fire!NO TEXTING OR SHOWING UP LATE!
Excellent prof. Doesn't suffer fools. knows his stuff and is engaging.
Very nice man, wants you to learn and do well. Takes his lectures seriously and doesn't want to think religion is a bird course. Exams are fair and he will give you a good heads up about whats going to be on them. You need to go to class to take notes, doesn't use slides. Go to class, easy A.
Great prof! Is very passionate about what he teaches, and isn't bias toward any particular religion. Makes class interesting, has students best interest in mind, and is a fair marker. Very helpful if you have any questions! Would recommend this course for sure! Just go to class and pay attention and you'll do good!
my favorite prof so far. hes awesome
He is an amazing prof, yes he doesn't like you being late and interrupting the class but who would. He is a priest but I have never found him to be offensive towards anyone, a kind of "tell it like it is" guy. He is very committed to his job and seems to enjoy it, I also rearranged my whole second semester to have him again in second, he's great!
You can have little fun in his class but the material makes you bored. you need to focus with his writing at the board. The assignments are a bit hard because you should write 3 essays each one has to be more than 6 pages.
Worst Prof I've ever had. he told me no one gets A's in his class when I asked him how to improve. He tries to make his class seem hard by marking reflection papers unfairly.
Eisener frustrated me so much. His lectures were so boring, and I felt like in a class like religion it would have been so much more interesting if we had class discussions. He is a very nice man, however, very boring. And sometimes I felt like he crossed the line of being politically correct in the classroom, which personally made me uncomfortable
I very much enjoy Prof. Eisener's classes. He makes the talks fun and interesting and he really knows his stuff. He comes close to crossing the line but it really keeps people listening to what he has to say. I plan to take one of his classes again.
Easiest class ever. You don't even need to buy textbooks so you save money. Class is mandatory but quizzes are online and are simple if you paid attention
Great Professor, used different information to get inforamtion out. I really liked his cut the crap style and striat to the point. I felt that even though he was a priest he was very objective on the different regilions and I appreciated that. Great prof, but dont be late or try to b*llsh*t
He is the man. Going to class will get you a A with ease. Nice guy and very helpful.
Incredibly helpful, if you go to class you'll get an A. Many anecdotes and will make you laugh often. Makes relatively boring material interesting and is fairly laid back. Get him if you can. A somewhat hard marker but if you do the work and follow instructions you're sure to get a high grade.
very easy prof. just go to class. make sure you know what your writing about in your journals if not ask what you can do better and you should get an A
HE IS THE MAN. Best prof at SMU. Take him if available.
Easy enough class BUT I wouldnt suggest talking it if you lack pantience like myself. Extremly unprofessional techer, horribly organized lectures, and doesnt post on blackboard despite saying he would, for my final paper he slapped on a C and gave absolutly no feedback as to what I could have done better
Very enthusiastic and helpful. I really enjoyed taking this course. I would strongly recommend to take his course.
Very enthusiastic professor. I was highly motivated towards the course throughout the semester.
worst professor so far. He is extremely unorganized and all studying depends on independent research or lectures. His lectures don't include the board or slides. I always study and i recieved an A on all my classes this semester but got a B in his class and i dont know why! exams and gradings depend on his mood. the final was 2 questions 20%each
The class was overall decent, doesn't do power points so attending class to take down notes from the lectures is a must. The biggest problem was he gave us a great review for the final exam with types of questions and topics on it and changed the whole exam 2 hours before the final! And didn't tell us until we were in the exam room! So frustrating!
He is the best prof. at SMU I've had in three years. Taken four courses with him already and he's approachable, easy and definitely willing to help out whenever you ask. Glad I found him in the first semester.
Eisner is not exactly the best professor. Although his classes are very interesting and he is very knowledgeable in his work, Eisner is not clear in his expectations on his essay and exams. I am an A to A+ and got a C+ working my ass off. He is not the "easy A" I was told he was.
Would not recommend him to anyone. He makes this class way harder than it needs to be and seems to enjoy watching his students fail. Don't take this class with him if you're looking for something easy.
Clarity on the expectations for assignments was really was confusing and overly complicated.. He also tries to discipline the class for mistakes few people made, it reminded me of being in high school classroom, I've been out of high school for 5 years and did not appreciate being yelled at. Other than those incidents he is ok tho.
Wendell is not clear with his expectations. Very tough marker, he'll just slap a grade on with no feed back. Makes class harder than it needs to be. Appears as if he likes to see students fail. Can be humorous but usually offside and unprofessional.
Dr. Eisener actually challenges students' knowledge of the subject matter he teaches. If there's a "real" problem with how he poses the questions, he's approachable, but not if it entails being coddled. Expecting to be spoon-fed, having a poor work ethic, and skipping class will result in poor marks. And yes, his humour is colourful... so what?
Best prof I have ever had. do the readings, attend class and be respectful and you will have no problem. For a very unreligious person he change my whole out look on religion and religious courses.
Very fair. Easy to talk to. Great sense of humour. Extremely knowledgeable. If I had the option I would definitely take more classes with him.
he was just whatever. all the powerpoints were on blackboard but he adds good points in his lectures so you should go. he thinks he's too funny and calls you out for everything, a little rude and a little too outspoken. dumb class, don't bother if you don't have to.
Hands down one of the best profs I have ever had. His lectures are amazing, and when you miss his class, you are almost sad. I learned so much from him. I wish I was able to have another class with him. He is sarcastic and witty, and makes this class awesome. Sad to leave his class.
For a relatively boring class he taught it very well. His lectures were interesting and engaging for the most part. He is a very nice guy and is very knowledgable in his field of study. I would recommend
He is very unprofessional. Provides unclear feedback especially if you are taking it as an online course. Does not reply to emails. Will give you an 'O' in your assignment if he believes you found something from the internet even if you did not! He does not give students a chance to explain themselves and just penalize you Highly unrecommended.
He is very unprofessional and provides no feedback. Eisner does not give you a chance to explain yourself. As a first year course, he should be there to help you grown and learn from your mistakes but he's not. If you make a little mistake he gives you a 0 instead of confronting you about the mistake. Although its an easy A, I DO NOT recommend.
I took Dr. Eisener in the summer and it really was a great course. The only problem was that we were graded solely on our performance of 3 tests however he literally gave us the test questions before the test. If you go to class and listen to him, you'll do fine. As a 4th year student, there are much worse profs out there.
He is the worst prof. Don't take his class. His tests are too much difficult.
Highly qualified and interesting lectures, knows his stuff. Is a Lutheran priest, fire brigade band leader, knows horses, several languages including how to write them, very flexible with schedules although expects you to be ready for class. Can learn lots from him outside of textbook teaching.
One of the best! Lectures are interesting , and he throws in a little humour and personal stories. Go to class, pay attention and you'll pass.
Do not take him. This is a first year class and he only marks by a few tests. so many people emailed him and asked why the things he put on the tests weren't in the lectures. he even takes down study material before the online tests.
I was expecting this class to be the most boring thing ever but he always found ways to make it fun and interesting. He made me want to learn more. The classroom environment is always super chill which makes you want to be there. He tells you literally what is going to be on the tests because he wants his students to succeed. Best prof ever.
After reading comments and reviews about Wendell from the previous years, I was not looking forward to his courses. However, I was wrong. His students are always in his best interest - and if he comes off as "strict" it is because he wants you to succeed. Would definitely take again.
At first I thought he would be an awful prof, but I was soo wrong. He turned out to be my favourite prof. He is hilarious and extremely understanding. He gives extra credit and really shows his passion for what he teaches. If you have to take a religious studies course I highly recommend taking one with him.
Dr. Eisner has an odd sense of humour but he lowkey is not scared to roast you. He is always trying to be relatable. If you're not doing great on assignments go to his office hours and talk to get to know him and he will give all the help he can, but he also will talk to you for hours on end. Follow the criteria to the 'T'. You'll be okay.
good marker. gives you so many bonuses and chances to improve your grade. kind of boring lectures. tests and exam are easy. final project is easy but long. knows his info very well and cares about the success of his students
Easily the best professor I have ever had. I suffered a concussion mid course and he did everything in his power to help me catch up and succeed in the course. He is so funny during the lectures making them very interesting and he makes you want to learn! The content in the course is difficult to learn but the way he teaches it makes it easier!
Although there is an assignment of some kind every week, this is one of the best courses a student could take. The prof is very kind and down to earth; gives good feedback for you to improve grades.
Best prof ever! Wendell is so caring and despite how boring Religion is he is so funny. He's honestly just there to help you and wants you to get a good grade-- he's not the kind of prof to try and trick you. Tests are very easy and as long as you go to class you'll be prepared as he helps a lot with letting you know what to expect. Great guy!
Dr. Eisener is a great prof. His lectures are fun and interesting, and the powerpoints are always clear and easy to follow along to. The assignments and tests aren't hard if you go to class and read the novels assigned. He really knows his stuff - very knowledgeable and easy to talk to about religion. Definitely recommend taking a course of his.
He is such a nice and caring guy. Really makes you feel like he's your friend. He is helpful in class and will always answer questions.
He really fantastic. Really cares about the students and will always help you out if you ask. Course is easy to pass if you study, and he is a pretty generous grader. My favorite prof as of yet.
Wendell was the best prof I've ever had! He taught Religious Studies last term and it was such a good class. I wish I could get him again for more courses. He makes learning super fun and easy.
You basically teach yourself in his class and his essays are way too differ
Not the best
Strict professor
He is not understanding
Course is very laid back. Three books, read them, answer the essay questions. The only issue I had is the lack of rubric or feedback after an essay is graded. I was never sure what exactly he was looking for and any comments received back from an essay was just a short phrase. Overall, if you like to read and write then take this course with him.
I took this online during COVID, Dr. Eisener was an easy-going professor, decent marker, and kind. It was a very light course with a total of 4 papers - 600-800 words each. Every paper was written on a book - buy the kindel version (it will save you money). He provided some interesting material!
He didn't post any lecture by himself and he replayed any answer so rudely.
Very Rude Professor
Basically if you take any of his entry level classes all you have to do is write papers. about 6 per term and 500 words. Pretty easy. I'v only had him for online classes and easy grades. I mostly used WIKI for my papers and get good grades. I never read his material he posted online. Not a great person but easy course/grade boaster
Here are a few things that will happen if you take online courses with him: 1. No lectures, just posted assignments and podcasts to do the assignments 2. Not accessible at all 3. 6 assignments were given without any guidance on how to write them Never taking any course with him again
He was really nice but there wasn't much contact with him throughout the semester since it was an online class and his PowerPoints were the only "lectures" we got. I thought I would hate that, but it actually saved me a lot of time not needing to watch an hour lecture 2x per week. Decent grader but doesn't provide good feedback to help improve.
The best prof!!!! Teaches in such an awesome way and makes the work easy to do with his great teaching
He's also v honest and sincere abt his personal take on the subject. Take this course if you want a GPA booster but also want to enjoy your time in school. Esp if you appreciate fun facts abt historical events (without having to freaking out abt cramming them for exams). He'll only test u on like 10% of what he teaches you but you'll learn a lot.
Dr. Eisener is an excellent professor. Grades were based around a paper and 3 tests that pretty much exclusively cover lecture material. I had basically no reading for this class and he very much wants his students to succeed. Very entertaining lectures and extremely knowledgeable about his field (as well as many other things.) Very much recommend.
Dr. Eisener was the best prof I have had my entire academic career. You can truly see from Dr. Eisener's lectures and feedback on assignments that he cares about the academic success and well-being of all of his students. We had 3 tests and an essay all weighted pretty heavily but fairly easy. Bonus points were very easy to obtain.
I found this course to be challenging considering it is a first-year religious studies course, not because of the material but because of the presentation of the material. A little more structure and clear instruction would have benefited me more. However, the professor graded fairly and would offer help and feedback if asked.
Brace yourself for dad jokes! But seriously, Dr. E teaches in a way that holds your engagement entirely. If you take notes, ask questions, and attend class/listen to lectures, you will succeed. I have had him twice (once in-person, once online) and the in-person experience is definitely better-he is a great storyteller and avid whiteboard-user.
Dr. E has been my best professor thus far! He is funny, interactive, a great story teller, kind, and is fair. His tests are one of the easiest tests I have every completed because he gives you a review that prepares you completely for the test (you do not need to study more material beyond the review). Yet, I learned so much in his class!
Best class I've ever taken. Guy is super nice and actually jokes around and is kind to his students. Tests and assignments are basically spoon-fed to you. One test we only had to memorize 10 definitions! Looking for a chill, easy A+? This is your course. Highly recommend.
This professor had a great sense of humour and told lots of stories which keeps the class engaging. He wants everyone to succeed and cares about his students. He gave 3 tests(20%,20%, and 10%)with an incredibly thorough outline. A final reflection(15%) about the 3 site visits you attend during the semester and the final exam(35%).
Professor Eisener was great! I took his course as an elective and I was pleasantly surprised as it was very interesting. The course is only graded by 4 tests but as long as you read the lectures you will do great, as he only asks questions that he talked about in his lectures. Highly recommend his courses!
The professor is super engaging and makes the class fun with their great sense of humor. While the workload is manageable, their thorough grading and emphasis on student success make this an excellent choice. Unstuck AI was a game-changer for exam prep!
As a professor he is extremely caring and accommodating. For those looking to take 2211 beware if you are not a strong writer, as he marks papers very hard. Unfortunately there are 3 papers that are worth 25% each, forming the bulk of your grade. He has another journal assignment, and discussion marks (which really does not boost your grade much).
