Lectures, test - thats all. All test materials coming from text book (a little bit from the Exercise book accompanying the text). I learned MOST from the text, not from lectures. Attendence not taken but bonus points are given on random days.
yeah...all from the book... and lots bonus for attendance...so show up!!
Goesling is funny with his lectures, the questions on the tests can be somewhat tricky, but the good thing is he curves it by a bunch so if you get say a 40 and up out of a 60 question test, you might get an A depending on how he curves it.
He is one of the greatest lecturers at De Anza College. Damn good teacher. Only faults were his exams. They were randomly selected questions from a pool of questions that the author has included with the teacher's edition. Questions were ridiculous and bi
Kind of a spaz. Good teacher to take first thing in the morning... wakes u up with a funny lecture.
Great instructor. Great lecturer. (Made me wish I was Psych major) I wish I could have taken more classes from him!
Very Easy Class. Read The Chapters and Take Tests. Easy A. Show Up For Class Everyday For Extra Credit Points.
Goesling is a funny man. His class lectures are very entertaining for the most part, whether it be about his past girl chasing exploits or sad cases of psychological disorders. Tests are easy and are based on a standard bell curve.
He is very funny, and you really need to read the book to get good grad
his lectures are dope and interesting! cool cat! i enjoyed the class, the tests are easy if you read the chapters... and ... he gives out bonus points. it's almost impossible to fail this class!!
GREAT professor. good lectures & funny at times. grades on bell curve (its AWESOME) no F's unless no take. no D's unless you try for it. ex cred on random days if you're there. LISTEN to lectures and READ chaps is all it takes. EXTREMELY RECOMMENDED
Great teacher. Funny, interesting lectures. The textbook isn't a bad read, either. Just keep up with the reading and you'll ACE the tests no problem. Easy and interesting class. Great intro to psych!
Don't listen to these people. His lectures are horrible and unhelpful except for the essays that he gives. Gives EC but so does every other psych teacher. Tests are random and hard but it's easy to cheat.
He seems nice during lecture, but don't go to talk after for he makes you feel like his time is more precious than what you have to say. Does not like to be helpful even during his office hour which is at 7:30 a.m. (very inconvienient!!!)
I loved going to this class in the morning (and I'm not a morning person)! I learned a lot. No homework, just read the book. Easy extra credit opps.
Very interesting and imformative but not very helpful and he trys to make you feel stupid when you ask a question.
He is an overall good teacher. But hate it how you have to read in order to do good on test. His lecture doesn't match his test, you must read! But alot of extra credits on random days! Curve is crazy, A can be low score!
Very easy course. Although there's a lot of reading, it's pretty easy reading, and he gives you a syllabus of when you should have the chapter read. Has very interesting lectures that involves a lot of stories of his daughter.
He really knows his material. His lectures are long and can sometimes get off track but he is full of interesting information. He heavily curves his grades, which means u can get a C when u deserved a D. Came recomended, i continue that
consists of 3 tests and 1 final. class will be so easy for u if u like to read cuz the test is only based on the book. Lectures the whole time is its irrelivant to the test. If you have difficulty reading or hate reading then u wont do so well.
i agree with the last rater. 3 tests/1 final/lecture everyday. no hw, 2 extra credit nothing else. tests are FULLY based on the book. if u hate reading or have difficulty reading don't take him. doesn't help so u're on your own. read read ALOT for an A!
He's funny. Lectures a lot and they're pretty interesting, but you have to read the book to do well on the exams. I recommend him.
Postponed tests a few times (but I'm not complaining). Interesting teacher to have early in the morning, very funny. But even when you read the text, the tests can be kinda hard. He has somewhat good lectures but it's all from the book.
I like him as a person and a psychologist. As for his teaching methods, he hould lecture on what the tests are on i think instead of getting it all from the book because how can you understand it completely?
took him for summer. kinda hard when what he's teaching is only part of what's in the book. tests are COMPLETELY based on the book. so it you have a hard time in science, don't take him.
Very strict on what he wants on his tests. certain columns must be made in certain ways and so on. Class is an easier version of Math 10. didn't learn anything from him and didn't like his lectures they were broing and unclear.
EXCELLENT!!!
Very easy class. I showed up to lectures about once every two to three weeks and I got an A in the class. He's a good teacher that knows his stuff. Do not take the course if you don't like reading because the exams are based off from the book.
Wendall is the man, I had his class a few years ago and it was AWESOME. TAKE IT!
a very weird class. He will keep telling you the world is round. This is a statistics class and i still dont understand how that has anything to do with math. I dont want to be rude, but he may have mild Tourette Syndrome. looks like hes a good psych teacher, but statistics.....
Tests are annoying, questions ask for very specific facts from the reading, but he's cool and fun to listen to in class.
Great teacher! Lectures were interesting and funny.Tests are all out of the book, chance for extra credit just for showing up to class, and he gives you the opportunity to make up one 1 test. pretty easy A if you do the reading...take him!! he is awesome and knows his stuff!
Most students will get C's unfortunately. Only top 10% of class receives A's, next 5% receives B's, and the rest get C's. I hear that Mitchell is easier, but Goesling teaches a lot better. Despite that grading system, he is an excellent teacher that will keep you interested.
He's the only one teaching this class from the dept., so whether u like it or not, you jst have to take him if Psych's your major. The material's not really hard, but he makes grading really hard. As long as you meet all his demands, "A" is not impossible. Don't make more than one mistake per test!
You learn a lot even if you don't do the best in the class. Very hard to get an A in his class. If you show up every day and never open the textbook then you'll get a C. Just pay attention in class and you'll do fine.
Someone said "Tourette Syndrome"??? LOL. That's mean. But Goesling is a cool professor. He is a bit tardy most of the time for office hours though, but I got a B in his class this last fall quarter. I recommend his class, it's very interesting.
A wonderfully interesting class, but unfortunately it will not help on the tests. Want an "A" in the class? Stay home for that hour and read the text.
This guy is awesome. The class material was already interesting, but he always made me laugh with his witty comments or funny stories. He's had a lot of teaching experience and it shows. Not too mention, he went out of his way to correct a test score - he sincerely cares about his students.
He is a good and interesting teacher, but if you want to get a good grade in the class might as well skip his class and just read the book. He also has some interesting stories.
he's a pretty good teacher; he's good at explaining the materials but the questions from the test are straight from the book so make sure you read the book. come to class and you'll get extra credit on those lucky days.
this guy is damn good!!! its not an easy A class you have to be there everyday, he gives out 5 bonus points randomnly only if ur there, and he gives out the essay questions that are gonna be on the test. he is damn intresting!! and is a really good teacher. And he knows his stuff!
Good teacher but he gave me a be and i was 3 points from an A. what a jerk
The exams were supper hard but he curves them like crazy. Out of 60 questions, you need to get 20 of them to get a C on that exam. He doesn't take role. Sheep brain lab was fun. 10 page term paper that I don't think he reads. He gets off topic a lot and doesn't teach out of the book Loved course sub
Hilarious and Interesting! Hard tests but the class is worth it.
A lot of good information, well paced and well delivered. Interesting lectures and correlations to current events, rather than relying strictly on the book. You'll definitely learn a lot!
he's pretty funny, and doesnt do a lot except for the dissections, but tests are almost never relates to the lectures. a lot of self studying for a class.
I made the mistake of studying the lecture notes instead of focusing on the reading for the first exam. DO THE READINGS! He has a generous curve. Going to lecture isn't important for the test but what we covered in class was always interesting.
not easy A but easy pass. hard tests, focusing on readings. generous curve. the man is conservative politically. tells funny stories
3 tests, 3 short essays, 1 final. basically you sit down and listen to his useless lectures. tests are a bit hard unless you read everything in the book. tests are STRAIGHT from the readings so prepare to read alot! lots of reading! unhelpful but organized. won't answer questions and gives decent EC. read read read!
the 15% A's and 20% B's scale is a little harsh, but he makes the class fun
great teacher....
You make one little mistake on your test and you loose tons of points and bascially get an F. The only good thing about him is that he will give you a W rather than a D or F, but he is way too harsh of a grader.
The curve is awful, but helpful depends on who you talk to. his lectures can be hard to follow, he isn't very clear sometimes and rambles on about stories.
careful with tests!!! He'll lose them. I know people that have taken the course, and he lost test and didn't pass them for it.
Grading scale for test is ridiculous. He comes late to class and misses office hours. Poor lecture and does not pay attention to clarity during lectures. Not a fun class. Do not take his class. Try a different community college. It is worth it. He has a big ego and makes students feel bad when asking questions in class.
this teacher is great! hes tests are easy and grading is not bad, u get what u deserve! if u read the books and listen to lectures ur bond to pass! and trust me i hate lectures but his are worth waking up too! even thoe he comes late to class, who cares you would to if u had to wake up at 5 for a 730 class! again grade is what u deserve! have fun!
what the hell's w/ the ratings..this guy's a pretty good teacher. his lectures are really fun to listen to and if u come to class everyday and read the book, an A shouldnt be too hard. MAKE SURE U READ THE BOOK, and u should read every chapter twice before the test to be sure. plus for the lectures, he's full of pretty cool stories too. take him.
I guess he's good at Psych 1 but he is a totally different person in Psych 15! Pay attention! this is psych 15 NOT 1!He's unresponsive to questions-prone to yelling fits, really shouldn't be teaching anymore. Late to class everyday. Ridiculous grading. Don't take unless you have to, and if you have to.. be prepared to study on your own! Often teaches one day on 2 chapters then tests on it the next day!
His class was not bad, just don't take it at 7:30AM! His lectures are relatively interesting, if you can pay attention, his multiple choice tests are not hard but you must read the material, and he gives you the essay questions that he'll be asking so all the effort is on you to get the grade you want.
His lectures are, at times, very entertaining. He's very animated, and I suspect, has a very warm heart; although he sometimes can appear to be a no-nonsense type. The tests are graded on a curve, but he is very liberal with bonus points. A reasonable amount of studying should ensure a decent grade.
DON'T TAKE HIM FOR STATS!!!!! His class is virtually impossible to do well in because his lectures are unclear, he misses office hours, comes late to class, yells at you for asking questions, etc. His grading scale is ridiculous!!! I am good at math and I even like it, but he makes you DREAD coming to class. BEWARE!!!!
I have him right now and I like him a lot--but the class is not easy. I do the reading and my homework, and have an A. This class is good if you really want to learn the material. Do NOT take this class if you just want to slack off--you will fail. Sometimes he gets off topic, but overall is a sweet guy.
Goesling is a great professor he is straight up and is a funny ass guy. If you do the reading then you will do fine in this class. His lectures are hilarious and very energetic. The material is very interesting I highly recommend Dr. Goesling
Well I think is grading scale is wack. If you go to class, pay attention, and do the hwk, there's no reason why you can't get an A. I liked the class. He's pretty cool guy.
the lectures are worth going to. They are interesting and beneficial. Coupled with the relatively easy reading, there is no reason why you can't get a B, if not an A.
wow. some control issues going on here. he is all about the need to be dominent. He sees quesiton as challenges and not as questions. calm down buddy. Not cool, not fun and I love math
If you are an international student, this class is gonna be tough. Only top 15% of students get an A. All you have to do is to read the text book b/c exams are out of textbook. So make sure to read thoughly. He doesn't check attendance everyclass but you want to attend class to get possible essay questions. Good luck!
He is very knowledgable and interesting, first I was scared tests were pretty hard you had to studybut then he curved like crazy I got an A besides I think I might change my major because of his interesting teaching I learned lots of new things don't be late you might miss the extra credit given once in a blue that you will need for an A Sweet guy!
clear, interesting lectures, easy grading cuz he curves it. 4 mc and 3 essays= your total grade. on random day, he gives extra cred. point. max possible=15. 5 more if u take test on time and are borderline on grade. ex: u have c+, u bump it up to b-. study and take notes if u want an A. read and comes to class= b.
lectures(interesting, funny) whole quarter, students listen. curves(includes all his students from other clsses of same sub). lost my essay n didnt let me retake so lost huge pts...besides everythin person put below is true. must study, study, review, read get A...doesnt giv Fs...just puts W. take notes wen explains essay questions...
Goesling's real kool and easy-going. His lectures are actually pretty interesting and worth going to. I like how he curves, and gives bonus points, only for the ones who are there the day he gives it. I think the bonus pts. helped me out by a lot. Real funny guy. I totally reccommend him. =)
Great teacher, I ended up majoring in Psychology after taking his class
like other comments here said. He grades horrible. for every little mistake you make, even if you know what you are doing, you lose 5 points out of 50. that is 10% !! you make another little mistake another 5pt another 10%. he is a good teacher, the material isn't hard. but he sucks when it comes to grading!
just go to class and he'll tell you what is exactly on the test.no hw
BEST TEACHER EVER! He is very interesting. His lectures are very interesting!! Tests are kinda hard but he curves them so you get a good grade. Really knows his stuff. highly recommend him!
Awesome teacher. He uses great examples and you will really learn a lot in this class. It's really easy to get a B in the class but if you want an A you're gonna have to study pretty hard. I highly recommend this guy, hes funny, smart, interesting and uses a lot of psychological techniques he teaches us to teach the class.
Really nice teacher. No homework and only grades on your three exams plus the final. Grades on a really nice curve so only maybe 1 or 2 people get a D in the class.
He is the laziest prof I have ever met. He outwardly admits he doesn't write his own tests he just prints them off a cdrom and then curves like crazy because everyone scores so low. you have to read the book extremley thouroghly to understand and he doesn't even help. He is amusing at times and attendence isn't mandatory but he is a horrible prof
He really wasn't that bad, i dreaded taking him, but you just have to go to class, and do the homework because the problems on the test are exactly like the hw. he is a really tough grader but if you average a 40/50 on every test you get a B and I actually understand statistics of social sciences now after taking his class.
Ok let me tell you...Mr. Goesling was AWESOME for Psych 1, but when I took him for Math 10 Stats...he was AWFUL! So I recommend him for psych, but NOT for stats!! I ended-up withdrawing from his Stats class, but got a B+ in his psych class...funny huh? :) But yeah, his teaching style is best for psych...he should stick to that!
His lectures don't have much to do with the tests, they're all from the book and they are the toughest MC i've taken Interesting guy who has a lot of fun. Extra credit 3x for just being in class I don't care for psychology but he does and it reflects onto the class Asked to raise our hands if we **** and then laughed when everyone got nervous
Extremely funny guy, but difficult grader. I took him during the summer; your grade is determined by 3 exams (80 pts ea.), so DO NOT SIT BACK AND RELAX. Read, re-read, and take notes. His exams are based entirely on the textbook. His lectures have nothing to do with the exams. He basically talks about his life experiences. Take his class.
I had Goesling for both stats and psych. As a psych teacher, he's really awesome. Since he's been teaching for 30 + years, he knows what he's talking about, and makes amusing stories that correlate with what he's teaching. Listen to his lectures, read the book, attend his classes (he gives extra credit randomly for attendance) & you'll do fine.
This is a stats class, and it's the same as psych15. I took him at the same time for psych and this stats class - he's two completely different people. He's funny & understanding in psych, but for stats, he's irritable and constantly yelling at the class about attendance and poor grade turnouts on tests. It's a hard subject with a cranky teacher.
condesending manor
Only take this teacher if your life depends on it. Lectures cover 5% of text, and 95% wife, daughter, and repetition thereof. READING IS MANDATORY. If you do not read everything, you will fail. To give you an example of "excitement" of the class, 50% of my class falls asleep every day.
seriously he is like the coolest professor ive nevr ever met in ma life!!he is fun n cool..ya wont get that bored in class...altho we have to read the entire textbook n he onli teaches the main things in class...still cool TO ME!!
i LOVED his class! his lectures were great, no homework just reading, his tests were fair and covered material well. he has a great sense of humor, a lecture class you can stay awake in! i highly recommend this class:)
Good teacher, keeps an interesting sense of humor, to say the least. Lectures are boring for the most part. Tests are EXTREMELY hard, but does grade on curve (34/60 often in an A). No HW ever. Be prepared to read like never before. And drink lots of coffee.
Teacher seems nice, but the class is 25% lecture and 75% reading. Makes me feel like I should have gone with the distance learning class. >_< No hands on or class projects. His lectures are very difficult to take notes from because he uses mostly drawings, so you learn nothing. The reading being so technical does not help either.
HE ONLY LECTURES ON PORTIONS OF THE CHAPTER AND TAKES ATTENDANCE FOR EXTRA CREDIT. TESTS COVERED TOPICS NOT COVERED IN LECTURES SO YOU BETTER READ THE CHAPTERS WELL. THERE ARE 4 TESTS WITH TEST 4 BEING THE FINAL AND WEIGHS THE SAME AS THE OTHER TESTS. NO HW OR QUIZZES. FUNNY AT TIMES. THE CLASS WAS PRETTY EASY FOR ME; GOT AN A.
IT'S ALL IN THE READING. He lectures ALOT, but you're better off reading the material from the book thoroughly. Many people got decent/passing grades from just reading the book. Not much homework, if any at all. Lots of extra credit opportunities - through attendence and articles. Tests are multiple choice and short answers, graded on a CURVE.
A lot of reading but this is the nature of the subject. He is fair, extra credits, understanding. Good lectures, learned a lot, generous grades. His helper for reading (Fren) is the sweetest. You just need commitment to study. Be mature and take responsibility. Thats all.
Good intro class. Not as tough as he seems at first. His lectures are interesting and tests are impossible. I mean getting a 50% on a test and getting an A because of a curve, that should explain how hard it is. You almost want to inspire everyone in your class to miss them all on purpose. A very good guy with energy and personality. JUST READ
AWESOME.Very funny teacher. Always has a way to make you understand what he is lecturing about Lets you know whats going to be on a test Offers a lot of Xtra Credit You dont have to show up to class.BE SURE TO READ TEXT BOOK. Multiple choice Scantrons Test based on Text Book.Essay baed on inclass discuss.BIGgradingCURVE.either an A,B or F grade
Interesting class. A LOT of reading so I highly recommend that you do not wait until the day before exams to read all the chapters. Difficult to take notes during lectures b/c he uses diagrams. Tells funny and interesting stories. EC on attendance and articles. Exams are MC and essays. Exams are not that hard if you read thoroughly.
EASY if you do all the reading, ALL of it (even subsections). Gives out a lot of extra credits (for being in class). Even easier if you can obtain notes from someone who already took the class. GREAT Professor, I love all the lectures and funny guy. ATTENDENCE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
I took this class for statistics. It is really not bad if you keep up with the homework and go to class (they go over it). The tests are the same format as the homework, nothing tricky. There are around 7 testsBe careful asking him questions because may not be very patient with you.
Easier than stats in math department, 1-3 problems per homework which isnt mandatory but calls people up to put answers on the board. The tests are 1-2 problems each, which are exactly like homework problems. Just learn how to do 1 problem perfectly and you'll ace the 7 tests. Take home final, allowed a notecard with formulas for tests :)
his teaching is alright, he tells you what's on the tests. there's 350 points available, i got 350. i read at first, but towards the end i didn't need to, if you start the class out reading the chapters, just skimming, it'll be chill towards the end of the class. i shoulda gotten an A+ since i was actually over 350 points, he's probably just lazy.
Goesling IS the best lecturer at DeAnza. His stories are super interesting, and he's bound to make you laugh. His command of psychology is obvious, and his "no bullsh*t" attitude is very refreshing. He makes a lecture fun, and you will look forward to going to class. Tests may be a little tough, but he gives plenty of EC and the curve is epic.
Took his Psych14 Distance class.Have to read the book.Says all of his test questions come directly from the book bank, but I took all of the practice tests in the book, and his tests were COMPLETELY different. He is a really easy grader.40% of the class gets an A or B.You can probably get a C without really trying.Kind of long-winded.
his lectures are really interesting, and the kind that college kids wanna listen to. he really highlights what hes gonna put on the WRITTEN part of the test. however the main part of the test, mult. choice, i reccomend reading the book. he does not cover this material much. he rewards you for goign to class randomly (extra credit so up to you to go
Funny teacher, and organized lectures. Reading the book, and be ready for the essay questions. Easy, and interesting class.
He is way too easy going. Nobody shows up, he grades on a curve-a bad one, and he goes off topic A LOT. The tests are from extreme details in the over-worded book, but if you get 50% on the test, you could still get an A. What's the point, then?!?! I learned nothing about psychology from this class.
the only thing you could depend on is the frakin thickbutt txt book. Can't get anything from the lecture in class!
He is a good teacher but his tests are rather difficult. luckily his curve always accommodates bad test results. if you like lecture classes, go ahead and take him, he'll answer questions if you need to and he has a review day before every test that is OPTIONAL. the beginning of the quarter is the worst, bear through that and it will get better
DO NOT TAKE GOESLING UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE FRUSTRATED OUT OF YOUR MIND!HE IS MOODY, IRRITABLE, LOVES TO KNOCK OFF POINTS FOR TINY TINY MISTAKES,wants to make his students nervous. If you make a tiny mistake he'll give you an F/50% so if you're really smart you'l wind up with the same grade as a slacker. He teachers diffently from book. CONFUSING
I dont understand why everyone loves him so much. He sucks! dont even pay attention in lec. cuz his tests come STRAIGHT from the book. make sure to write down the essay questions tho.easy grading since he curves the test like hella..but idk..his clas is a BORE...and he has a mean attitude!!overall, easy class if u READ THE BOOK but teacher sucks
Goesling was actually a pretty good teacher, he was forced to teach 5-6 classes, so I could understand his moodyness. Read the book, follow the steps, and execute during tests and you'll be fine.
His class is not hard, but it requires effort and time. If you actually read the chapters and then USE WWW.MYPSYCHLAB.COM is makes a world of a difference. If you have a used textbook buy an accout because it is worth it. It makes studying super easy and pretty quick. Go to lecture cuz at the least you'll get the essay questions and entertainment
He's easy and straight forward. The tests are based on the book, not the lectures. He curves greatly and the essay questions are given in class. Lots of extra credits.
Great instructor, really easy just read the book, Tests are curved a lot and the essay questions are easy test points plus theirs a ton of extra credit
Dr. Goesling is an average large class professor kind of guy. Doesn't seem as if he cares about his students that much, doesn't grade his own essay tests, doesn't use very good real world examples to relate to his lectures. However, Dr. Goesling is very approachable and is willing to listen.
he was an okay teacher. lectures could be pretty interesting but rarely related to the tests. multiple choice tests given in class(all questions from book) and essay questions are all given to you in lectures before the actual essay portion of the test. he grades on a curve which is the only way i passed his class. I got a B.
Easy to listen to and understand
Great teacher! He's funny and the way he teaches kept me interested throughout the lecture. Most of his test questions come from the book. Listening to his lectures alone is not enough. His grading curve is really generous.
Lectures entire period. Extra credit for showing up on random days. Extra credit HW. Grades tests on a curvem so if you're ahead of rest of class you're fine. Tests are based off book, lectures give general look at what you need to study. Extra cred racks up to almost a free letter grade boost if you get them all. Overall pretty good teacher.
Dr. Goesling is one of those teachers who doesn't really lecture on what he tests on. His lectures are mainly made up of what interests him and essay questions. I didn't buy the book, or study for tests, except for Essay parts, and still managed a B+. Dr. Goesling seems to be burned out, and he's not very helpful at all. I sugst. ShannonHassett
warning:: unless you can memorize an entire text book word for word this class is not for you! And he is unwilling to help his DL students or even get back to them. Tests are RIDICULOUS and there are only two. DONT TAKE THIS GUY FOR DL!! he could care less if his students pass, and when asked for help he blows them off by saying "just read"
I took Dr. Goeslings class over 10 years ago. It is one of the most memorable, and practical classes I have taken. He uses real world examples to teach Psychology. He believes in applying Psychology to real life. The lectures are interesting. The course is challenging enough to keep you enguaged. This is a class that will benefit you for life.
Boyfriend and I took his distance learning class. Only 2 tests, got a B (studied) and a C+ (did not study). His grading is pretty easy: top 40% of class will get A on the test. Overall he gave me a B, I'm satisfied :) Boyfriend, however, got C's on both test and was given a C for his overall grade. SUCKA! So it kinda depends on your classmates.
Easy class if you read the whole book and study by it. His lectures are useless since all exams are based on the book and he doesn't cover much of it. He takes roll only on a couple random days. He gives out essay questions in lecture in advance. Middle towards end of the quarter, I stopped attending lecture and asked classmates for essay questions
I took Psych1 and the Psych 14 with him. the psych 14 was DL while the othe wasnt. I love this teacher he is great. One if you attend his class and listen carefully to his lectures it will help you on test, but you still have to sort of read the book. If you just pay attention to his lectures you can pull of a B without having to read the book. now
First week I was going to drop STAT/RSCH -seemed very hard.(I've seen many students drop during 1st wk.bad decision) BUT as you attend every class times (*MUST attend every class periods to get A!!*) you'll like his teaching style! He tells you exactly what's going to be on the SEVEN(Final-take home) tests(hw-based). HE's well-dressed^^
If you attend every classes this class is not hard to get A! Tests are just from one of the homework problems we went over in the class. Overall he's very good teacher!
Took his summer session and it was horrible, he had the worst grading scale possible, 75% of his class failed his tests, and a lot people ended up with C's. He always rants on about his wife and daughter...I think the biggest learning experience I've had with him was when we had a sub for two days.
He gives out answers to questions on the test called "Good Essay Questions" so if you have someone who would go to class &give it to you then you don't have to go to class &he does surprise attendance but just have someone sign in for you. His class is easy! Just read the book and get the essay questions. In class he's boring and can get off topic.
Dr Goesling was great! TONS of reading, lectures are pretty useless (but he's funny). 1 pop quiz, extra credit for being in class on certain days. So far, I've got an A in his class. There are 4 tests total, 3 essay tests (go to class, he will tell u what to expect on the essay portion). I would recommend him, definately.
Really easy to get a good grade in his class. He gives 4 multiple choice tests (4th is the FINAL), and 3 "essay" tests. ALL MC TESTS ARE BASED ON THE CH HE ASSIGNS IN THE BOOK SO MAKE SURE TO READ. attendance is not mandatory (EC),no HW,all other assignments are EC. his lectures are sometimes boring, but he can be funny most days. DEF RECOMMEND!
Not bad. Three of the four multiple choice tests cover 4 text chapters each, the last covers only 3 chapters. The 3 essay tests are questions he gives beforehand during class. His lectures can be good, but sometimes his examples go on tangents. He's funny and willing to help you. Gives enough EC and no HW. Just be sure to read and you'll be good.
He is the worst teacher in De Anza. His lecture is totally disorganized and he is talking only what he is interested in. he doesn't follow the text book and doesn't have ability to teach. He always critisizes students in class. It makes me sick.
He's strict and I don't like his lectures and that's why I dropped from the class.
Funny guy tells stories in class. He grades by multiple choice from textbook and he tells you what will be essay question in class. Extra points for random attendance.
he doesn't cover the book. he shows news paper articles and it doesn't relate to the book. he just talk about dull stories.he only draws pictures, so it is hard to follow his lecture. his lecture is extremely boring and useless.he is not a funny guy, he acts and plays a funny guy. do not take him!!!
He is merely o.k. If this is your major, choose another teacher. If you just need the units, eh still choose another teacher. Very unhelpful during office visits, NOT helpful with EDC students and just generally needs to retire.
I don't understand why others say he is a gereat teacher. he is the worst prof! Exams are extremely hard because each exam doesn't come from text. Reading the entire book every time, but I get B or C. If you are an ESL student, DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS! He'll mess up your grade. Strongly not recommend!
This teacher is horrible. He wouldn't spend five seconds helping me out with something when all of my other ones would.
It seems its not that easy to follow up with his teaching style for first few days BUT he is really a good and easy!! teacher. It is not hard class beacuse all the test questions are very very similar to problems from class lecture (questions) and homework problems.
I dont know why everyones knockin on goesling..His tests are ALL from the textbook n yes he does get off subject but its still interesting.get over it he talks alot
Took online distance class. If you read the book thoroughly you will do good on the two required exams. I emailed him a few times with ?'s and it took him a week to respond and he only wrote two words. Doesn't seem to care. You have to read 9-10 chapters for each of the exams which is 300 pages each. Take this class if you can teach yourself.
His tests are nearly impossible. Let's put it this way, I studied for a straight week before the test, got a D in percentage score. But with the curve, my D became an A. Tell me, how is that teaching? Also, he acts like he is inconvenienced by his students at all times.
Bright intertaining contemporary
Took the online class. There's simply not enough info about Goesling for me to comment on. For one thing, he did not reply to my email. I give him the benefit of the doubt that he didn't get my email. To get an A, READ the book thoroughly. The exams had a few questions on statistics. The publisher's website is expensive and USELESS!!
His class isn't ridiculously hard if you can understand and/or learn the materials yourself, but if you don't understand something, he humiliates you in class if you try to ask. Makes you feel like your question was the most moronic thing ever, even when it was due to his being unclear in explaining things. Not a hard class, but not a great prof
An easy A (if you actually take the time to read the chapters in their entirety and review them) with a professor who seems genuinely passionate about the subject.
No need to take notes in his class because all the exam questions are from your textbook. If you read, you will be fine. I got an A but it wasn't easy. His lectures are funny (my type of humor at least). He gives you extra credit for perfect attendance, if you take your exams on time, and a few quick newspaper article reviews.
Tests are from book only, his lectures are pointless and most of the time boring. The tests Q's are "picked at random" so you might find some really bizzare detailed q's on test. If you ask him any questions he will ridicule you, so don't bother. Grading on a curve, and many ppl do horrible on tests so if you are a hard worker, easy A. I got an A+.
Read the chapters, go over them in class and take the tests. He only takes attendence a few times randomly
Class isn't mandatory to attend, but sometimes he does random attendance checks. He also gives assignments during certain chapters. Find someone in the class to get hw from & sign you in if you don't come that day. The txtbook is necessary.
Dr.Wendell Goesling is an excellent professor and his class is very interesting. If you read the chapters, write some papers and attend the class you'll get an easy A. I would recommend this class because everything you learn here will help you understand yourself and those around you better.
interaction is NEEDED for an online class-even more so then on campus classes. but goesling doesnt even answer emails. hell, he makes people drive all the way to de anza JUST to see their test grade instead of using the invention of EMAIL!! Uggggh! he's so annoying! what kind of teacher does that? im sure he's good on campus, but online- HE SUCKS!!
I came into this class knowing he got a lot of bad reviews. At first he was really rude, but after awhile he dials it down. His tests are straight from the book so even if you dont go to class you should know whats going on! He gives some free points too, which is something I didn't expect from such a mean teacher.
My biggest complaint is Goesling's lectures are not so helpful...he barely scratches the surface of the material that is in the book. The book is heavy detail but as long as you do the practice tests you should be fine. He gives some extra points for attending, but that's about it.
During the lectures you really have no clue what he's talking about, but then when you go home and do the hw, it all makes sense. Tests are kinda hard b/c if you miss one part of the problem, its -5 pts. Just pay attention & don't make stupid mistakes on tests = you'll be fine. DEFINITELY DO THE HW(that's where you learn how to do test problems).
Take for psych 1 but not for psych/soc 15, just wait for the other quarter for another teacher to teach the class.
EASY CLASS took it online, YOU HAVE TO READ THE BOOK no other assignments other than the midterm and the final 80 questions chap 1-10 for midterm then 11-19 for final. if you read u will pass with an A.
Took psycho 1a. Lectures are Extremely useless . All u have to do is read books and memorize BLUE PRINTED words. If only u read and memorize , no reason not to get A
You have to read and memorize the textbook. You can get bonus points easily to increase your grade. If you have no problem studying a book yourself without teacher's instruction, RECOMMENDED!
I set the curves by engorging myself in the textbook, i learned absolutely NOTHING from his lectures. His lectures are useless anecdotes and rambles, don't even bother going. He also yelled at me in front of the entire class for looking at the clock. He is impolite, and uncommonly rude. This class was a waste of my time.
He offers lots of bonus points for students by taking attendance randomly and giving extra points assignments. This class doesn't has hw at all and all you need to do is to read the textbook for you to get an A.
Lectures just scratch the surface of textbook material. Everything on test from textbook. MAKE FLASHCARDS! (best way to study for this class) Takes attendance for points randomly-show up! Don't have to engage in lecture- i just brought my flashcards to study. Gives easy bonus points! Take if you're down to self-teach. Tests aren't cumulative :)
