great class. she is pretty easy but the subject matter is really interesting. if you actually get it, she is pretty funny too. the films were good. someone told me to take her course, good call!

Fair grader, does not play favorites. Sometimes not clear on what should be done, however she will answer any question you have. Do your work and ask as many questions as possible and everything will be clear. No surprises.

since the class is huge, you don't really have a chance to relate to professor. generally nice and will try to engage discussions with class. really easy course and gives minimal number of assignments.

Summer Bio 106, shes great, she definately knows the subject and breaks it down real well. Makes it easy for you to understand, and she will definately answer any questions you have. Highly reccomend!

She's a good teacher. She's easy. You just have to stay with the readings she assigns which isn't much. The topics are interesting and I love the videos that are shown in class. The articles that we have to do is the only drag, but it's still easy to do.

one of the most nicest and understanding teachers at csun. Not too easy, but easy enough and either way she practically gives you the answers to her tests in her study guides. all you need to do is show up to most of the lectures and study what on the study guide and you will pass the class easily!!

I thought that her class was interesting. No Final, 4 Quizes and you can drop one. Hands out study guide and you don't need the book but attend lecture because that is where here test questions come from. You do have to write some 1 page papers, no much at all.

She is very interesting and easy. She gives a study guide for her tests...as long as you take notes....study from the study guide questions you should get an A or B the lowest. If you don't do these two things u might have a harder time....other than that very easy and nice. Just don't talk during class or eat crinkly stuff cuz it bugs her a lot

Like many of my classmates, this was not my major but she made it fun.Tests aren't easy nor are they difficult PLUS provided us with a study guide that walked us through the test basically. Coming from a student that went to class every day, did the work, didn't study much Highly recommended.

Very thoughful and nice lady. Has a very creative fresh look to her and loves to keep the attention of her audience. Sometimes she overdoes it on the bilogical jokes but she is a very nice lady and probably my favorite class. Very fun and easy.

The person who left the last comment doesnt know what he or she is talking about, her class is very interesting and you learn things about other cultures that we should be aware of. Its not even a hard class if you put the effort into it. I would recommend it to anyone especially if you need to broaden your horizons.

This class was one of the easiest class i've taken. She was clear and helpful when exam date came up. Just attend her review dates before the exams and just pay attention to her lectures, you'll be fine. OH yea, do her papers, there's only two..no bigggy

Good professor. There are 3 exams,some small homework assignments, a field trip, and an extra credit field trip. She makes the class pretty interesting as well. She is always willing to help if you need help. Also a nice lady.

I can honestly say I did not learn a single thing in this class... but I got an A and only showed up for maybe 1 out of every 3 classes

Great teacher, her lectures are really clear and the tests are really easy if you understand the concepts, which souldnt be hard because of how good a teacher she is.

Very clear. Puts all lectures on webct. She is a primatologist, so makes you go on field trips to the zoo. Gives review for tests and doesn't have any surprises on the tests. If you have a chance to take her as a teacher, DO IT.

She really wants her students to do well. She has take-home review questions for the tests (yes, the questions are actually on the tests), answers any last minute questions just seconds before the test, and she posts her lectures on webct. If you just do your part and study, it is impossible not to get an A. Don't talk during class!

OMG PEOPLE...I HAAATEEE BIOOOO...but...this professor made it so easy that, I may have to change my mind about bio! Take her for any bio classes she teaches. She's kinda obsessed with monkey's, but a very easy professor!LOL! It's very easy to get an A in the class... Just do the study guides she posts online, and it'll be impossible to not get an A

Professor Birky is a wonderful professor. She exudes great teaching skills and has the ability to engage the class in great discussion. Also, her office doors are always open (during her hours) and no matter what she's doing, she'll take the time and effort to answer every one of your questions thoroughly, as she did to me. BEST TEACHER I'VE HAD!

There are 4-5 papers in this class, she is very clear and grades fair, she has 2 test and gives you a review and study guide that is very helpful. This teacher teaches fair and is pretty clear, class is interesting, however, she tends to go off on her political views and it can be insulting to people that don't feel the same way she does

she is very clear and helpful At first I thought she didnot have strong charachter because she added everyone who wanted, and there were more students than seats, but then she showed that she can keep class disciplined and organized what i liked a lot I would take her class again, if u follow her instructions & study guides you'll get decent grade

I got an A in her class she is a wonderful teacher, very quirky and knowledgeable!! Her tests are multiple choice & straight forward, her written assignments are only 2pgs long.

She no longer writes her exams. All exams are from text's test bank, which are dificult. First exam 15 A's, 40D+F out of 110 people. You must read the book and understand it extremely well. Bottom line is that she is no longer an easy prof. She is nice and caring individual.

Study guide questions given in beginning in beginning of semster...go to class and questions in each lecture are answered....easy A! 3 papaers and 2 exams....lots of extra credit offered...makes subject interesting.

Take her. DO not go to class unless you have to turn in a paper. Go only day before teset or if she is going over study guide and she will give you all the answers for the test. I set the curve on the first midterm with a hangover and 15 minutes stuying before class. and the final is not ****ulative. this is an easy A.

This class is not that easy but not very difficult either. It was not my favorite subject but I managed to do well. Its a good idea to go to her office hours and get to know her. The midterm was also difficult, but overall the class was alright.

This class is not hard if you keep up. There is an abundance of info, but she gives study guides and the power point is extremely useful. The only bad thing about the class is that it goes really SLOW, at least for me, who hates studying science, genetics, and evolution. Overall an informative class, but it is not a walk in the park.

Dont buy the book. Go to class, be polite and doNOT breathe unless she says so. LOL... You'll know what i'm talking about when you take her. Just stay put, follow, IT IS VERY important that you go to class the last 2 classes prior to your exam. She goes over study guide and the test pretty much her study guide with multiple answers. Over all GOOD.

Shes a bit of a feminist, her class the tests were a bit tricky, she has issues if u turn a paper she turns bright red and stops and stares at you, i dunno what her problem is with that, lol i need to take notes! Her final has some cumulative q's which she doesnt tell u, i remembered most of them but she never said it was cumulative, shes ok.

Professor Birky is a very nice lady who seems to be always talking about her times studying monkeys and apes in the field. Overall, the class is extremely interesting and relevant to people all walks of life. She may have been another powerpoint professor, but those power points condensed the material enormously. Just copy the notes off of WEB CT!

Professor Birky is fantastic. One of my most favorite professors at CSUN. She is great teacher and really keeps the subject matter interesting and challenging. She is also very helpful, nice, funny and awesome. I love the subjects she teaches, but even if you don't she's great. Her classes aren't easy, but if you make the effort you'll do well.

She was really easy. I took this class as a desperation class because I took anything I could get. Even though I had no interest in her anthropology class it was tolerable. She's funny and offers some extra credit and the class was really easy. I didn't buy the book. All her test are from her lectures. I recommend the class if you like anthropology

Very funny professor and very knowledgeable about the subject she is teaching. I am so glad I took Anth 151 with her. There are two exams, one quiz, a few homework assignments and in-class assignments, and one mandatory field trip. Highly recommended if you are planning to take this class.

Great professor. Her study guides are pretty much all you need in order to get an A on her exams. She does give classwork so you should show up to class. I ended up with an A. I did notice, though, that she tends to single students out by stopping the lesson and giving an evil eye to whoever is talking/texting. Don't get on her bad side.

I really liked this class & the professor. There were only 2 tests,2 papers,& 2 little assignments. Her tests r not easy, u really need to study! But her study guides r extremely helpful & she will devote a day before the test to answer any questions. Her lectures r really intersting & she expects class participation. Overall I would recommend her.

Her class was really fun. I was surprised because I had read all the comments about her staring down students for being loud and/or late. I never saw her do that once, and our classroom was pretty noisy. She taught the material well and also posted the powerpoints online. I would definietly recommend her. She made the class interesting.

Interesting class, but you MUST study for the tests. I got A's on all of my assignments, but didn't study enough for the tests..big mistake!

The only things that were super confusing was the research assignment and the standards assignment. That is my only complaint about her lack of clarity. Everything else was great! She is receptive and promotes discussion, funny and although it was a drag to wake up for Saturday class, it went by fast.

She is so straightforward and very willing to help you. Tests and essays are not difficult and the lecture material is pretty interesting stuff if you like animals. She gets really annoyed by cell phone use and snacking in class though so beware. Cool field trips.

Very helpful! She's a bit strict with people who eat during class and those who text while she lectures. Class could be fun at times but overwhelming with work. Overall, she is a great dedicated teacher who is willing to help.

I honestly missed more classes than I attended, got a D on the first midterm, and managed to still get a C in the class. I'm still in shock. She reads from a powerpoint that she posts on moodle. Gets very upset when she sees a cellphone out on your desk and will call you out on it. She doesnt take attendance but gives and collects assignments.

she gives you a study guide so you basically know what to study for. her lectures are on moodle but you do get credit for coming to class. no surprises on the exams (theres only 2 btw) and there is a slight curve (dont rely on it much). DONT talk in class or use your cellphone. i got an A =]

She gives commentary on her grading, so you can figure out where she would like to see improvements. She is easy to get in contact with. Not a great class, but bearable. I regret buying the textbooks; they were expensive, and none of them ever got used.

She said it was her first time teaching 101 so I understand why it was a bit difficult for her to explain the material. However, she shouldn't have used tests directly from the book because they were extremely difficult. She gives no reviews. If you can learn on your own take her, attendance is somewhat important cus you do get classwork.

Fun class. Has PP online. 3 tests worth 200 points, one interview essay worth 150, participation is 150, posts and online forms worth 250 in total. She curves the tests. YOU MUST READ THE BOOK EVERY WEE!!! We spent a few classes just talking as a group about current events with some book work thrown in. You should take her for you Upper GE class!!

VERY SIMPLE CLASS. SHE USES LOTS OF DIFFERENT TEACHING TECHNIQUES: POWERPOINTS, YOUTUBE, TEDTALKS, LECTURE, DISCUSSIONS ETC. INTERESTING COURSE CONTENT, DIDNT OPEN THE BOOK ONCE. THE TESTS ARE EXACTLY OFF THE STUDY GUIDE SO START THEM EARLY AND GET THE ANSWERS OFF THE POWERPOINTS THAT SHE POSTS ON MOODLE! TAKE HER FOR SURE!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Super fair teacher. Quirky, but nice. Easy class if you put in a couple of hours a week - impossible if you wait til the end! PPTs right out of the book, and winnowed down to what will be on the test. Even so, it's a LOT of material. Three tests, 8 chapters per! I found the online "Mastering Bio" homework really helpful. Recommended Prof.

Very easy class for science majors who need to get lifelong learning req. out of the way. Show up to class, you have small assignments which make up about 30-40% of ur grade as participation. She gets kind of annoyed if ur late and will call you out on it. Mostly busy work nothing difficult. Helpful class! I would recommend

This is a very easy class. However, there are a handful assignments to turn in and participation is a must! So don't expect an "easy A" if you don't show up to class. Show up! She hates when people are late and like many professors she hates when people are texting in class and will call you out. She's very friendly and is very helpful. Take her!

This professor is super quirky! Although she has a lot of energy and seems pretty nice, she is weird about the use of electronics in her class, and eating "crinkly foods". She will stop lecturing and stare at you until you put the offending item away, even though my lecture hall was like 200 people. She is a good professor though, I recommend.

Professor Birky is an outstanding instructor. Her lectures are engrossing, as she teaches with a wide variety of techniques. She's very approachable and is incredibly accepting of various perspectives. As long as you do the work and pay attention, this is an Easy A. Great class!

I was excited to take her because she received such great ratings, however I beg to differ. She did crack some jokes and she was great as a person. However, as a professor, she was quite boring. It was extremely difficult to listen to her lectures as she was pretty monotone. She was pretty helpful though when it came to answering questions.

I think I may have attended this class 3 or 4 times the whole semester. It was a friday class. I hardly ever went and still passed with an A. Your entire grade is based off of 3 tests. No homework or extra assignments. She posts all of her powerpoints online at the beginning of the semester. Tests are fairly easy.
