One Word: Horrible!
make sure you get a seat where you can see the clock, you'll checkit often*yawn*
not bad
I love Wendy Bourque!!! I don't know why people don't think she's fair. If you know your stuff, you've got an A.
This course was a little harder than I expected. Alot about physiology, less of psyc than I expected. However, in saying this I have to say that Wendy Bourque is an EXCELLENT professor. She's highly recommended by me. She is a GREAT prof!!!!!
She is an AWESOME prof, very friendly, funny, and very good at explaining material that may, at times, be very difficult...I can't say enough good things about her. Wendy is the best prof by far at St. Thomas University!!
Not a very empathetic woman. She's really hash in her summer classes
This class was difficult, but that was the course not the professor. I found Wendy to be very understanding and she is a fantastic prof. She's very clear and uses wonderful examples to make learning easier. She's my favorite prof at STU.
this is a class where you can expect personal opinion to affect your mark. She gets students to correct her marking, and has also bragged about failing a student because she thought they were testing her by handing in an asignment one minute late.

class was very boring. clas discussions are marked harshly by the Prof..my least favrotie class.. prof was ok, not the greatest.. START ur propsals early.. :).. they r a lot fo work..its true..
She is VERY unfair. She makes a point to fail a student if they are a minute late.. no joke! She flips her overhead sheets so fast.. your hand will hurt. Her research proposal will have you living in the library!! NO GOOD!!
It was an ok class got a B, she is dry at times..and stories are a little weird that she tells but she does mark hard. And what is with the fill in the blanks?
Blah, blah, blah......snor
WORST EVER!!
Boring Boring Boring. She is incredibly boring. Her multiple choice questions are extremely unfair and she marks really harshly. If you feel like writing a 25 page proposal this is the class for you.
I'm shocked with all the dissing here. Wendy is a great prof and person. She's respecting, has a sense of humor, friendly, and certainly fair. Don't be fooled by the whines of dummies who hate *any* prof they take. She can be dry but she's a good person who knows her stuff and I recommend her.
I can't believe there are actually people who like this woman. Personally I think she got her degree from a cracker jack box. She is very confusing and makes things far more complex than they have to be. Sometimes I even wonder if she has a degree in psyschology. She blows and I wouldn't recommend he
she comes off as extremely rude if you ever have to talk to her. i took her for perception, and she taught it as tho it was perception and sensation like she does at UNB. THIS IS NOT UNB, sensation is not a requirement... someone should have taught her that! Very bad proff, would never take again!!!
Some people may find her boring, but she was able to get the main points across very well. I found her course interesting. She is approachable and willing to help those who put the time and effort into the class. Also having the power point slides online was helpful if you happen to miss a class.
Okay, just for the record I have loved every pych course I have taken thus far at University. This one however, not so much. If you want to read stupid articles every week and be bored the rest of the time, take this class. I would like to add that Wendy is a very nice person however, just boring.

She is very boring in class. There was also a lot of group work, so if you get a bad group you are out of luck when it comes to your final grade. I only got a B in her class. I went on to take advanced methods and got an A.

Wendy is a great Proff. Although her lectures are kinda boring.. she is very clear with her notes, and does not throw any curves at you with her exams. The group work aspect may throw some people off, but it is an easy way to get marks.
Wendy is a very good prof, she is always willing to go over unclear material, and she had many variations for explaining the saem thing...vary helpful! Though her classes were somewhat dry her little jokes make it worth while. she is a very approahcable person and all her notes are online!
Although class can be someone boring, Wendy is an extremely friendly, understanding, and helpful prof. Another great thing about her Sensation and Perception classes is that all the notes you need for the midterms and final are online. I really enjoyed her class, and loved the little jokes she threw into the lectures.
Wendey is a great prof! I had her for child devlopment & perception. The best thing to do is devlope a raport with. On your very first day of class introduce yourself. Sit in the first coupple of Rows of seats, show her that you are intrested. My only complaint is that she dumbs materal down so the simpletons will get it. Very snappy Dresser to.
Very helpful, and kind. All of her slides are on the internet, and there are no surprises when it comes to her exams. If you show that you are interested in her class, she will generally like you. Her corny jokes are funny to!
I really liked her. There was no surprises on the exam and everything came from the textbook. One of the easiest A's I've ever got.
This class wasn't hard but the she is so boring it's hard to concentrate. She often rambles off and forgets what she's talking about and she lost my midterm!! I would not recommend this class.
She was a good professor, but you MUST be willing to sit through a three hour course. All her slides are online but it is best to go to class or you wont know what the heck it all means. LISTENING IS VERY IMPORTANT!
u dont have to show up for class cause she posts the slides on a website and in class all she does is read them out word for word, she isnt clear with assignments or review for a test, she argues with her self, tells you one thing and changes her mind to opposite, so u really dont know the right answer is and this will mess u up for tests.
A very classy lady! An A-1 person and prof. It was a joy to be in her class! Another prime example of what people in the teaching profession should be like!
MY #1 FAVORITE PROFESSOR!! EXTREMELY NICE!!!
Wendy is a great prof. If you don't understand an ass. just ask, and she'll help you. One of my favorite psych profs by far. If you go to class and read over your notes it's an easy A.
pretty good, interesting, long classes
Gives lots of examples so you understand and remember better. Tests are fair. Usually combination of mult. choice, short answer and fill in the blanks. Plus, Wendy is super nice and has a cool laugh! Do try and read ahead, it will be extremely helpful. It's not a hard class as long as you try! I took it during intersession, it's very doable.

She really isn't that bad...just BORING!!
Course itself was ok. Final exam was TERRIBLE. All of the questions were either incredibly obscure or trick questions. It was roughly 10 times harder than the tests, probably more, so the class was shocked and unprepared. On another note: this prof doesn't believe in partial value. Take her if you want, just remember: I warned you.
very nice prof, tries her best to keep things intersting, can get boring, sometimes she doesnt explain well but if you express confusion she'll do her best to clear it up everytime. Wont fail you unless she absolutely has to. She wants her students to do well. Recommend.
I found her developmental class to be average. I thought she could be very unreasonable and unfair to deal with outside of class. Alright class, not a huge fan of the Prof.
This class was alright. The exams and assignments were reasonable. The only thing I hated was the group work! We had group assignments every week, and I don't find group work that helpful or fair in university! Also, she is not as nice as I would have hoped for. Sort of just brushes you off if you have a problem. Wendy and her class were ok though.
I have had several classes with Wendy and found each very fair and relatively easy. No surprises... If you take her Child Development class - Be ready for group work on a weekly basis.
I definitely do not recommend her for intro psyc. She has a tendency to ramble on and repeat information, and her tests are very long and tedious. She uses powerpoint in class, but her teaching style lacks a steady flow. I suggest copying out the slides before class so you can take good notes, since most questions on the test are from what she says
Very nice and approachable, is willing to help if you need it. She has a tendency to ramble on and sometimes goes a bit too quickly, however this may have been due to it being an intersession course that I took. I am taking her again so she must not be that bad!
SO BORING! rambles and drags out the class, and repeats herself constantly. Slides are vague and you're not sure what you need to study for her tests. She's approachable and friendly but not the greatest professor.
Prof Bourque is always approachable & willing to help. She has a strong compassion towards her students & has a down-to-earth mentality. I enjoyed her examples, although some can be convoluted. The text for Principles of Learning is outdated & needs to be replaced. Her exams are fair & I found the courses easy & clearly planned out.
Very dry and slides she provides are junk.
Wendy is wonderful! Attendance is not mandatory but she offers a 5% bonus added to your final mark if you have only missed one of the days she took attendance on (she chooses days randomly but its still pretty regular). She is friendly and approachable and has a quiet sense of humor. Would love to take more courses with her!
A bit dry/boring, but made the class comprehensible. Got an A.
I honestly do not understand how people could say Prof Bourque was not a good prof. Dry at times yes, but other than that she gave explanations that helped the students to better understand the concepts. PLUS 5% bonus for being there when she did attendance (at random) AND easy writing assignments
I really liked her as a prof. The subject is hard to make interesting sometimes and she did a good job making it fun for the students. She likes to throw in personal stories that are always amusing!
Great professor, doesnt focus on the important material enough.
Very nice professor, and very friendly. She cares about her job and students. Her exams are just the right amount of difficult/easy. She says you need the text book in every class, but you don't ever need the text.. she posts her notes on Moodle. Work very hard on your research proposal, class avg for that was 50% I believe. Really liked her !
Dr. Bourque knows her stuff. If you want to learn about research methods, take her class. However, she can be very dry and the material isn't always that exciting. She does try to switch things up with group work, which is definitely helpful. She is a TOUGH marker. Be thankful her exams are multiple choice because the paper is brutal.
She was very dry, and her slides are quite confusing. She tends to tell you one thing, then contradict herself a few minutes later. I had a problem with one of her tests, and she completely brushed me off and didn't seem to care. I didn't mind her as a person and she was nice enough, but her tests were painfully hard - even for the 4th years.
She is AWESOME! I loved this class.
Interesting woman, didn't mind if to fiddled on my tablet in class when things got dry. Very interesting stories and less teaching. Her exams are hard, usually not on what's covered in class but she's willing to spend time with you or of class.
Wendy is an amazing professor! She uses lots of examples and her notes are very easy to follow and very consistent. Your grade is based off of 4 equally weighted multiple choice midterms. The questions for the midterms come directly from textbook and notes material. I would definitely recommend her for intro psych!
She isn't the most exciting person but you can definitely approach her for anything!! She'll gladly explain and she was patient with me when I asked for things to be clarified. There were times that I skipped class but read the textbook, made notes, studied notes and slides and still had a great grade. Good prof :)
Monotoned and sometimes hard to listen to but when you do listen she is quite humorous and provides excellent examples. Class is very helpful if you don't fall asleep. You will have to read the text book and not just skim through it to pass.
Wendy is the BEST psyc prof you will ever have!! Her test questions come directly from material discussed in the textbook and if you go to class her lectures will reinforce this material! Uses lots of examples and is quite humorous! Definitely would recommend her for first year psyc
Perception was literally the worst course I have taken in university. Everything about it was so wrong. She is not clear, her lectures have spelling mistakes and are not in order, there is no textbook (which you really need), she tests us on what we DON'T know, not what we do. My lowest grades have come from her classes. Avoid.
Terrible prof, was not approachable at all. Lectures are long and boring and makes note to fail you on your group project if you do not attend. If you hate group projects do do not take the course and be expected to write a research proposal. Tests are multiple choice which you're so lucky and it saves your grade if you pass them
Horrible prof, boring and completely unapproachable, completely turned me off from psych and I will never take another psych class again because if her and this course
Her tests are not very fair, instead of asking questions that reflect the most important parts of the material she asks trivial questions to try and throw you off. I feel that she has good intentions but may come off as a little disrespectful/rude.
I was worried about taking this class because of all the negative reviews but i thought Wendy was a good prof. Classes were table group discussions wednesdays and notes on fridays. Tests were tough but she gives options for bonus marks. She is a bit monotone but not really a bad class.
She is a good prof and she knows what shes doing, but the whole class depends in your group work for the proposal. She does grade tough, but there are only two tests and that's the mid-term and exam. I thought over all it was a good class, but i recommend going to Fridays class even if she doesn't take attendance, she explains things properly.
She knows her stuff but has no idea how to teach. She's unapproachable and boring to listen to. Because she has no books its hard to follow her class. She's rude, uncaring and monotone.
Wendy was very boring which made it very hard for me to enjoy the class. She was monotone and cold. Would definitely not take her class again.
I had her for research methods and drugs and behaviour. Drugs and behaviour is her baby and she is more enthusiastic about that course. She can be pretty dry, but has gotten better over the years. Tests are pretty hard, start studying and doing readings way in advance to understand material.
Great prof, no issues at all with Prof Bourque.
Wendy was an absolute delight. She is the reason I have decided to change my major to psychology. While initially, I believed her to be monotone and somewhat boring, I warmed up to her and her dry humor quickly. She covers a lot of material quite quickly, but her notes are all posted to Moodle so attendance isn't as important. She's lovely!
Can take a while to warm up to her. She's very willing to work with you if you show her you're willing to try. Lectures can be a bit boring, but would definitely recommend attending them. Some questions on her exams feel kind of random. The bulk of your grade is related to group work and she makes sure you're aware of this first class.
Wendy Bourque was a really nice, and caring prof! She did have somewhat dry lectures but she didn't take attendance and she posted the slides online which made it easy to catch up. Would take her class again.
most boring person ever. made me hate psych. NEVER take her again
Wendy was very rude, insensitive and unkind. She was very unprofessional, monotoned and overall a terrible professor. She ruined developmental psychology for me, which is a shame. She made the exams overly hard and lied to us before the exam, stating that it was non-cumulative and then put multiple questions (15) from the last term. Overall, awful.
I had a bad experience with this prof. She does not enjoy talking to students, despite her saying you could talk to her about your grade outside class. She was extremely rude during that interaction and extremely boring to listen to in class. Takes attendance, posts slides on moodle, lots of group work, and hardly used the textbook.
LOTS OF GROUP WORK. I had her for research methods and every Wednesday we had to work in groups. We also had a group paper. She was monotone and rude and her no phone rule made me feel like I was back in high school. In no way was I enthusiastic about going to her class because she wasn't and it caused me to not show up for lecture days.
The group paper/project added so much more stress to the students plate that I was on the verge of a breakdown every time I went to work on it. She doesn't realize is that students have other papers, other classes, work and other things and we can't always meet. I will never take one of her classes again because of the group paper/project.
What can I say? Wendy is brilliant, but she brings to light the fact just because you can do, doesn't mean you can teach. Unprofessional, rude, and overall about as dry as the the Sahara desert after a drought. I recommend to take as few (or no) classes with her if possible. If you end up with her as a professor, my advice is to just not.
Terrible- Not only does she expect 30 page audio PowerPoints to be written up each week (which take on average around 7/8 hours to complete) but if you ask for help or insinuate that you need an extension on work she is extremely harsh and cruel. If you have a life or work outside of her psychology class I dont recommend.
Whatever you do- do not take this class. She doesn't care if you have any other subjects, and is cruel when you have a problem. Cant look back at answers on tests , the questions are ambiguous and hard and takes long to respond to emails. Worst professor I've ever had- run as fast as you can away from her class.
I try and give professors with a bad name a chance but Wendy lives up to her negative reviews. She's not understanding, when you ask for help she can be very cruel and condescending, her tests are not based on material you're covering and you can't review your answers either. I will be avoiding her classes and it's a good idea you do too.
She is one of the worst profs at stu.. her online test are so unreasonable and not based on any of lectures just the text book, which each chapter is over 20 pages long. When talking to her she is extremely rude and cold.
Her tests are unreasonable and only cover the most random stuff in the text book, nothing that you actually covered. She doesn't seem to care about her students and it almost feels like she's trying to see them fail at times (Sounds crazy/far-fetched but she doesn't set students up for success lol). Poor quality.
I was terrified the entire semester this was going to be the class that brought my GPA down. Very relieved I passed, but I wouldn't recommend taking a course with her because it was extremely stressful. The hardest tests I have ever taken in my life.
Her lectures are very dry, they drag on, and there isn't really much information in them. On the bright side, they're all posted online which makes for easy studying. Good luck with any papers though; I've had her for two courses and am about to take a third with her, and I haven't figured out how to write to her standards yet.
Almost no remote classes were given. During a pandemic, barely no help/explanations nor preparation were given except for the book we had and the PowerPoints she posted. Honestly, I was learning a course by myself and without her I would not have seen a difference. Also we had quizzes with 30-40 questions with only 25 minutes to complete...
It is a fun class- the main thing I would let you know is that the online slides with audio range 5-35 minutes each, so it would probably take 2+ hours to get through the lecture. Test heavy- they are on Moodle and are multiple choice- there is a set time slot of 1 hour to complete- the last one I took was 50 questions. I hope this helps deciding!
Lecturers are VERY dry, I took this class online and felt as though I taught myself this course. Learned almost nothing from her. She gave many questions on the exam 50-60 and we only have 50-60 minutes to complete the exam. She really seemed like she didnt care and didnt want to be there.
I thought this class would have been difficult after seeing the ratings for this professor, but found Wendy to be great, especially when posing questions to her. The only thing about her course is that her PowerPoints have audio on each slide, which may take some time to get through, but she tells you everything you need to know to be successful
I believe the course I took was more difficult than it had to be as rubrics and class instructions were extremely unclear.
Terrible. Will word things very passive aggressively when giving criticism and will not actually explain what you did wrong or how to improve. Made a friend's classmate cry because she was so needlessly rude while giving criticism. Will have a meeting with you if you want to discuss anything but then just rags on you the whole time without helping.
Nice person just not easy to access outside of the class or get help from or get any type of help from.
I appreciated having the online option, but her "quizzes" (literally tests as they're worth 20%) are ridiculous. She only gives 50 minutes to complete them and yet gives so many questions to answer. I wasn't even able to finish one of them because I ran out of time.
Truly one of the worst professors I've taken at STU, has the worst quizzes with weirdly worded questions that are very hard to do well on even if you have all the lectures and textbook readings done. Very rude, does not offer any empathy or kindness and is very ignorant in her email replies. Stay as far away from her as you can.
I had her for 2 classes, and this class was somehow even worse than the other one I had with her, she asks questions that are not even in the notes, or in the text, and there was one specific test that no one I know of got over 70% on due to her wording of questions. Very rude in emails and in person when asking questions, made me feel stupid.
Will never take another class with her. Did not respect disability time on tests and gave 50 minutes for 50 question tests. Drugs and Behaviour is strictly pharmacology and is considered a biology class but it is not listed that way. Very rude to students and the tests are impossible to pass.
No no no no no! Avoid Dr Bourque at all costs!!!! All the tests are online which is kinda nice, but the questions are always worded so weird, and you only have 50mins for 40+ questions.... Plus, there's a group project with 6+ members, little to no guidance, and EVERYBODY GETS THE SAME MARK. Just no.
I would not recommend this professor. Class can be very boring. Attendance not mandatory. She post the slides on Moodle and everything on the slide was the exact same in person. 4 quizzes and 1 group project. not very accommodating. I thought this course was going to be interesting... but no.
Stay clear from this Prof if you maintain a good GPA! I am a pretty well-off student; so I gave her a chance but I regret taking this course. mono-toned lectures, 50-min tests worded so absurdly you will get even "easy" ones wrong. Final group project received a mark that did not reflect the amount of work put in! Sorry Bourque, You just ain't it!
Her communication & interpersonal skills are lacking. She accused me of lying & even when I proved my innocence, she did not apologize. Seems very distrustful of students & is not easy to work with if you're a student with disability or accomodation needs. However, I had no problem with her lectures, tests, papers or grades - just her personality.
Bourque's class is tough, with tricky test questions and a group project that doesn't reflect individual effort. However, using Unstuck study alongside the textbook can help you prepare effectively. The lectures are worth attending, but stay engaged - it's a challenging course.
Don't do it. Expects students to learn online though it's an in-person class. Tests all online and you can't review them. Uses severely outdated terminology and defends it. Hard to pay attention to and does not care about her students. Just don't do it.
There is usually one online quiz a month but they are not difficult if you watch the lecture and take notes. She does not answer emails quickly or give any feedback on assignments but other than that it is a pretty easy course.
Dr. Bourque is very straightforward with her grading criteria which I appreciate. Moreover, she gives clear explanations for each project and test. However, it would be great if she could provide feedback on assignments and tests.
