She is really easy and nice. All you really do is write essays and its only 4. She will answer any questions you have during class or office hours or emails. You have some online work but it's just easy quizzes that you can retake to make a better grade. You will have to read a lot of articles but it's not bad.
Dr. Braun was an excellent professor. She grades pretty strictly, but gives you clear expectations of what she wants. If you have the chance, take her class.
She's pretty easy, and homework isn't bad at all. She's kind of sassy though, and she can get in really bad moods. For example, DO NOT HAVE YOUR CELL PHONE IN CLASS, she will literally flip out. Overall, however, she's easy and this class really wasn't bad. She doesn't make you buy books which is nice, all the readings are online. Take her!
Grades essays really hard, but grades homework on completeness, and it's like 20% of your grade, so mostly As on hw if you follow rules. Even if you do badly on essays, you can still pass. Plus allows a revision on one essay. Extra credit to see a tutor. Not bad. Last day of class there was extra credit for bring movie snacks.
Good teacher. The 101 class is mostly the same as others, so the rules aren't really hers. Inside tip! She grades the first essay really hard, after that she lightens up.
Grades essays hard, but homework easy which is still a big part of your overall grade. Extra credit for visiting the Writing Center and on the last week for bringing snacks. Just pay attention because she posts a lot of her lecture and peer review notes, but not all of them and then you can miss out on stuff that is important.
Assigns a range of writing assignments. Some are fun like making a visual of the short story.
She gives extra credit for going to the writing center. Saved my grade.
She is a hard grader, attendance is a must. Not understanding. I would not take her class as an elective. Expect lots of busy work outside of class.
A lot of writing for a reading course, but at least you get feedback before the final drafts are due.
Want an easy English class? DO NOT TAKE HER. Homework everyday in her class, tough grader for the assignments that are NOT clear. She picks favorites and think about skipping class... think again you will not pass
It's a writing intensive literature course, so expect to read and write. Fun extra credit though, like writing alternate endings to the stories.
I would take her again, but maybe not for a writing class. Expect to write EVERY DAY.
Dr. Braun is a great teacher and is always willing to help and enhance writing skills. However there is a lot and sometimes unreasonable amount of homework given for a MWF class. She does give you class time to work on your papers and tries to be as clear as possible. Dr. Bruan is a great teacher and most times will let you out early!
Definitely a difficult class. As a general english class, it was very demanding but once you understand her grading ways then it isn't as bad. Be sure to turn in the homework on time or you will NOT get credit. She also takes attendance, so if you are not in class you will most likely not get credit for the journal that day.
Do not take this class, she is the toughest English 101 grader and can actually be very rude one on one
difficult in the eyes of other english 101 classes but once you get the hang of her grading scale then things get easier, homework and attendance DO make a difference in your final grade though! 9/10 would take again
A lot of writing, but she offers extra credit and a revision option and drops lowest homework grades.
Even if you go for help, it is no guarantee you will do well. Very hard grader and doesn't teach, only assigns things someone else wrote to read that explains the assignment
Tons of reading and writing, but also lots of extra creidt and she drops lowest homework grades and has revision option for one paper.
Grades essays hard, but homework is graded on completion (and its 20% of grade). I made C's on essays, but ended up with an A- because I did all the homework and extra credit. Also the only professor I had that was enthusiastic during class. The others were very cold and just lectured the whole time. Don't text during class. she will call you out!
She is a great teacher! She is always smiling and very helpful.
This was the hardest class I took this semester and it should be an easy course. You have a ton of homework every night, her grading is incredibly hard, and she is not helpful. She is nice, but does not think twice about failing a student. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND unless you are super good at english.
She's really enthusiastic about this course and will help if you ask for help. This is supposed to be an easy course but it's not because you have lots of homework every night. Also, she's one of the toughest graders I've ever had. The only good thing is that she gives extra credit, drops the lowest homework/in class grades, and offers one revision
She is the woat. She gives homework everyday and she grades really hard. Would not take her again.
DO NOT TAKE HER. I took 102, which should be easy, but she assigned SO MUCH HOMEWORK. And this was straight-up busywork. Basically rephrase every chapter of both books into your own words. We had three 1,000 word journal entries a week. By the end, my PC File had over 40 journal entries for her class alone. I felt like I was back in HighSchool...
Dr. Braun is a tough grader on essays, but provides a lot of extra credit, a revision, and drops the lowest homework grades. Lots of homework (reading and an outline of the reading) but it is graded easy.
Online 5 week course at PSCC. Guidelines tell you exactly what you need to do. Challenging but in a good way. Never thought I was an english person, but made an A and learned alot.
Hybrid course. Grades slowly improved over the semester and feel like a much better writer now.2120
Intense hybrid course taught over 5 weeks. A lot of work but makes it easy.
Dr. Braun meets with you about every essay and gives you tips on how to improve. Loves to hear your interpretation of a story.
Is more helpful in person than with comments on essay. Visit her office hours before the paper is due for help.
Dr. Braun is very particular. She likes you to play her game, if you know what I mean. As long as you skim the readings and do all of the homework, you will do fine and maybe get an A or B. Do not think she reads the homework but she without a doubt reads the papers. Make sure you go to class, she likes attendance and enthusiasm.
I really enjoyed this class. More than I thought I would. Not bad for a summer gen Ed.
Dr. Braun spends a lot of time going over each essay. She basically tells you exactly what you need the write. Cancels lots of classes to meet about papers.
Interesting readings and we watch some films too. Mostly discussion, so not a class for the painfully shy.
Mrs. Braun was my teacher at pellissippi. Easy going. Let's you write in class, then checks each draft before you turn it in which really helps. I've never been good at writing but I learned a lot in this class.
A lot of reading and writing homework but class is pretty laid back. You just sit and write.
Dr. Braun was by no means a bad professor. However, she is super picky about works cited. It has to be the latest MLA and 100% correct for credit. Her commentary on papers is 2-3 sentences at most, and the third paper makes your gradewith no revisions. She gives extra credit for going to the writing center and revisions on the first two papers.
GET OUT OF HERE WHILE YOU CAN! Do NOT take Wendy ever if you can. I have never cried so hard. She made me feel like a terrible writer/student/person.
No textbook, readings posted online. Daily reading responses and two major essays. Not bad. Best part is the final presentations where you can choose any topic. Group project, but gives time in class to work on it.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. I have gotten straight A's on papers in other UTK English classes, but Dr. Braun is the only professor who has give me low grades on papers which I worked really hard on. She is super unhelpful when you ask her anything and is just mean. Her homework is all busywork and so is the work during class. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE 4 ENGLISH
Do all you can not to take this teacher. She is an awful teacher and does not help you understand. She has meaningless homework for about 3 or 4 days out of the week. I also worked a lot on revising a paper and she did not giving me any credit back even after going to the the writing center. AVOID HER AT ALL COSTS.
Excellent lectures and helps a lot on papers. Got to her office hours and get the extra credit by going to the Writing Center!
Wendy's class was a lot more difficult and involved than a 102 class needed to be. The papers were honestly difficult, and she is a hard grader.
Hard, but if you go to her office hours she is willing to work with you. Big on professionalism! Offers extra credit and revisions and makes last paper easy. Makes you work for it, and grades essays hard, but overall class average is a B.
Wendy is a great person, but her class is meh. It usually only lasted about 25-45 minutes, so I kinda felt like it was a waste of time. It was hard to justify waking up at 7:30 for essentially an attendance point. You don't really do much in class, but there's a lot of homework. If you don't give her exactly what she wants in your essay, look out.
Much harder and more work than my 101 teacher, but I definitely feel like I improved more as a writer. YOU WILL WRITE EVERY DAY! Gives lots of feedback and opportunities to revise.
If I could rate this woman a zero, I would. I seriously don't know WHAT these people below who have rated her 3, 4, & 5's are thinking. Wendy is the pettiest, rudest, and most passive aggressive professor at UT! As long as you play her little game and don't ask questions, your life might not suck. She makes Eng102 WAY harder than it needs to be.
Took her for a summer course. Love the readings and like that she uses student suggestions for short stories.
Professor Braun is very sweet and very helpful. I thought the class would be hard because I am not good at writing, but she comments on rough drafts and offers lots of extra credit and revision opportunities. It's not an easy class, but she makes it hard to fail unless you just don't try.
While she is a pretty good teacher and is very organized, she is the toughest grader I have ever had in my entire life. You better know every MLA rule, and are prepared to invest A LOT of time into your papers for her class. Luckily there are a lot of homework assignments and revision opportunities to raise the final grade.
I took this intro to fiction class accidentally thinking it was a creative writing course, but I couldn't drop. I still learned a lot and feel like I improved my writing and research skills. Its a Gen Ed course and she makes it clear how you can use this stuff in other classes.
Very nice and willing to help. But she is a really tough grader when it comes to essays and your grade really depends on the two essays written for the semester. She gives you chances to revise them, but it is not much of a grade boost. Make sure you follow the instructions very carefully for the papers and you will be fine.
Easy class. Nice person. Homework every night. No class on the weeks the papers are due.
She is incredibly critical over anything you write. Your sources for any paper won't be "scholarly enough"even if there aren't any resources for the incredibly specific topic she provides. She is also not afraid to tell you how she really feels so look out!
She gives you a topic to write your papers about that is WAY to specific, and then when you can't find good enough sources for it she grades you extremely harshly. Her lecture is very pointless and I feel as if taking this class online I would get the same information. She is a nice lady, but the grading is a bit ridiculous.
Worst English professor I've ever had. Just take someone else, seriously. Made the class harder than it needed to be and graded everything extremely harshly. Don't be late to class or she'll single you out and make your life miserable. Class portion is completely pointless and so is the homework. Gave me C's on papers I should've gotten A's on.
Lots of opportunities to improve your grade. Lots of writing but offers revisions and extra credit.
Grades hard but pretty lenient with extensions, late homework, and makeup work.
She's really great! I took her for both English 101 and 102. Over the year, i really had a lot of time to communicate with her and really improve my writing skills. She loves it when you visit her office hours, and is really friendly. She's always willing to help and gives extra credit for visiting the writing center. Easy class structure, easy hw.
Tons of writing, but accepts late homework and allows revisions on papers plus extra credit for visting the Writing Center.
You get to pretty much choose your topics. Lots of writing, but plenty of feedback on drafts and lots of time for peer review and revision.
Fun stories and lots of chances to revise your work.
Tough grader but gives lots of revision opportunities and willing to help even more if you visit her office hours.
She's a tough grader, but she gives you a chance to revise almost every paper. Time management is important in this class. Also, go to her office hours.
she graders her papers so hard and gives pointless homework. she is not helpful when you go see her
Gives plenty of extra credit and allows for makeup work. Kinda tough grader but gives revision opportunities on all papers. Very nice teacher as well
Tough grader, but you get to revise everything. You will be a stronger writer by the end of the semester.
Throughout the semester she was a great lecturer. However, when it comes time to papers she is an extremely tough grader. Make sure you have the correct sources that she wants because if you don't she'll drop you a few letter grades. Overall it was a fun class that had a lot of reading, I just don't like the way she poorly grades papers.
I would totally recommend this teacher to anyone! She is not an easy grader but if you follow the assignment for the paper's carefully you will be fine. Take time with each assignment and go to office hours if you need any help/clarification. She is very nice and caring so don't be afraid to reach out.
Miss Braun was my first English professor coming into college! She truly cares about the success of her students and is very helpful! English is my major so acing the class was pretty easy for me. She allows you to revise papers and is a very reasonable grader. She was always the sweetest. I definitely recommend taking her!
Grades hard, but let's you revise. Plus lots of extra credit.
Great professor!
Tons of opportunities to revise and get extra credit.
She is really unfriendly and honestly the worst professor I have had at University (Im a junior).
Dr. Braun was very nice about some issues I was having this semester. She gave me an extension and was very caring. She is a really hard grader, but she offers lots of chances to revise and get a better grade.
Dr. Braun is a very difficult grader. You do get to revise some things, but even then you still might not get a great grade. She claims you can skip up to a certain amount of classes without penalty, but if you choose to do so she grades your work even harder. She is unfair and caused me lots of stress. Would never take again.
Great teacher. She is understanding and the class isn't too difficult. If you put in the work on papers you'll get an A. She also cancels class more than most professors.
I really like her. I plan to take her class for English 102 as well. Show up to class because there is an attendance sheet, but she cancels class often though which is great. Do the easy homework, go to tutoring for your essays, and follow her grading criteria and you will have an A. Lots of extra credit opportunities!
Dr. Braun is a tough grader but she gives amazing feedback to help with the revision, especially if you go to her office hours.
Professor Braun gives lots of revision opportunities and extra credit and will even sometimes cancel class to meet with students about their papers. Lots of writing but lots of help if you take it.
she was a very hard grader, while she did give you a good amount of time to work on essays you still wont get the grade you want
Alright so many might say Dr. Braun is difficult or unfair, these people are individuals who didn't put in the work. She offers so many extra credit opportunities that you'd have to be stupid to not take advantage of them! Not to mention the depth at which she will read your papers and respond to them. Put in the work you get the grade. Simple.
Wendy Braun is absolutely incredible. I honestly really enjoyed her class. Read the syllabus because she hides extra credit there and make sure you are not late to class because she counts that as well for attendance.
Dr. Braun is a very good instructor. She is clear about the grading and allows revisions and accepts late homework for partial credit. There is a lot of work, but most of the homework is an easy A if you get it in on time. She grades essays harder than my 101 teacher, but she allows revisions on almost everything.
Nice professor until I needed help with submitting a paper. That's when I started to notice the passive aggressiveness. There are better English professors you can take.
I had Dr. Braun for both English 101 and 102 and honestly loved her. We had quite a bit of homework and she definitely grades hard on the essays. If you show up to class, ask questions, and go to the writing center for advice on your papers, youll be fine. My personal experience with her was great. Its not an easy A but its definitely possible.
If you take her you should expect an assignment due every day. Pointless homework. She is very caring and wants you to do good but she wrecks you on grading your papers. There are so many instructions for the papers and it gets very confusing on what she really wants. Very workload heavy
Dr. Braun was friendly to start off with, but soon was very aggressive and never gave you an A on anything. When asked questions she answered like you were stupid or completely ignored you. She grades you based of her first paper so make sure your paper is up to par or you get mean looks, rude comments, and no help. DO NOT TAKE HER SHE IS HEARTLESS
This is an online class where you work at your own pace. Dr. Bruan had office hour almost every day and would meet with us about our papers. Its a summer class, so there's a lot to do in a short amount of time, but the readings were fun and she had interesting questions for the discussion board.
Took online over the summer and probably my favorite English class ever. I am a science major and usually hate english, but Dr. Braun made me fall in love with fiction. The readings and assignments are so interesting and thought provoking. I would take this class again if I could. Also, Dr. Braun is just the sweetest professor and so understanding.
Definitely the worst professor I have. Im not sure if its because of the pandemic situation altering how students are learning, but her grading scale is absolutely ridiculous. Every one of my classes is going fine, except hers. If you get this professor, I recommend switching classes or waiting until a future semester to avoid her.
This class is asynchronous so it is all online at your own pace. There are lots of extra credit but also lots of work and writing. She does have office hours almost every day and if you go she will basically tell you everything you need to fix with your paper and help you get a good grade.
Dr. Braun is an excellent teacher. Her online class is set up low key, you just complete the assignments by the due date, no weekly Zoom meetings, except you have to meet with her once to go over your essay before turning it in. There's some extra credit and revision opportunities and she drops a few low assignments.
Prof. Braun is really sweet and helps on papers if you go to office hours. She grades essays tough, but homework is graded on completion and helps your average. You can revise papers for a better grade and some extra credit here and there.
Doctor Braun tells you EXACTLY what you need to do in each essay. Line by line. She goes over it in class and gives handouts. If you just pay attention you will do will. And schedule an essay conference! She writes all over your draft and tells you what to fix. Very helpful!
Dr. Braun tells you everything you need to do on a paper. Go to class, read the handouts, especially the ones on Canvas, and DO NOT procrastinate. Also go to office hours--she will tell you everything to fix on your draft.
Dr. Braun is an amazing teacher. Just go to class and she will tell you exactly what to do on each essay paragraph by paragraph and read the handouts on Canvas.
Dr. Braun created interesting projects and let you pick your topic based on your major and what you want to do as a career, so it's really good for professional development and job experience. Pretty much grades on completion and if you get an incomplete she lets your revise.
She gives lots of busy work that is mostly common sense info. I once turned in an assignment that had us write overviews on three articles and she told me I plagiarized even though I used quotation marks. I didn't like having her, and wouldn't want her again.
Dr. Braun makes English more complicated than it has to be, she's a nice person but grades heavy on essays and is very strict on not contacting her unless you've exhausted every other possible option of contact. If you do contact her before exhausting all options she will remove "professionalism points" from your grade. Would not take again.
The class isnt hard, but homework is due nearly every night, and it is just busy work, She is hard to contact, and doesnt read most emails you send her. Additionally, if you miss classes or assignments, even if youre sick, she becomes incredibly passive aggressive and pressures you into dropping the class. Worst professor Ive ever had.
Mrs. Braun requires a lot of reading and writing but also gives A's on most things as long as you do it. She gives a 24 hours grace period but only half credit if its late.
She is sweet, but the class is kind of boring. If you are looking for a lot of discussion, pick another class. If you just want someone to tell you what you need to do to get an A on the paper, then this is for you.
So much writing, but gives an A on everthing as long as you do it. I think almost everyone got an A unless you just never came to class or did the work.
Dr. Braun is a good teacher but her class is very work-heavy. Time management is so important for this class. If it looks like you tried, you complete all assignments on time and be professional, you will get a good grade. All homework is graded on completion and her papers are graded as a pass/fail. I highly recommend the Writing Center for help.
Wendy is cool and helpful. She mentioned that half the class ended up with an A. A lot of writing but as long as you do it, you pretty much get a good grade.
There is lots of writing (duh it's a writing class) but most is graded on completion and essays can be revised for a better grade.
Energetic, organized, passionate instructor. Would take her again.
Pretty easy, just a reading or two every other day (literature course) plus a reflection. Can revise essays for a better grade and get extra credit if you hav e a tutor look over it before you submit it. Readings were ok and she sometimes lets you choose between a few.
