very hard!! very weird!!! does not make sense. trys to help students, but is too vauge. only plus is mostly multiple choice tests.
as a grad of iup chem dept, i can say that she's a great prof who knows what she's talking about. the chem field is tough...don't expect easy A's all the time
Had her for two semesters of chemistry as a chem major. Made the material interesting, kept us thinking. Sometime a little out there, but it kept chemistry from being too boring. Plus, classes held outside on occasion.
kind of hard, wasn't very clear either, she would try to explane, but still didn't do a very good job, loud and fun sometimes, lives out of town so she cancles in bad weather
She is somewhat rude when you ask her questions.. If you tell her shes going to fast she yells...and says she already covered it...Is somewhat arrogant. Is very OUT THERE!!!! but sometimes funny.
had her for chem 101 and 102....she was out there...but at the same time because she does rediculous things in class keeps you on your toes and that way its not always boring
She is out there.
She is out there, not nice at all when you ask a question she gives you a hard time..
Had her for lab, very weird. Doesn't answer your questions directly, she answers them with questions. Not very helpful at all.
very weird, but makes class interesting, if you try, she'll help you, not ridiculously easy, but able to do good
She's crazy, yells at you when you ask a question, covers material too fast and yells when you ask her to slow down. THE MOST UNORGANIZED PERSON I'VE EVER SEEN! Do not take her if you have the option
Very hard to keep up with. Put stuff all over the board. She is somewhat arrogant, and is not very approachable.
She is the worst techer I have ever had. She lectures about wasting time not thinking that that is wasting time. She covers stuff in class and hardly any of it is on the test. Yells for answering question, and thinks her duaghter is a princess. I got a B
take Asting instead, trust me.
I highly recommend taking some sort of tutoring if you are going to take Elcessor. She is really hard to follow and the way in which she teaches makes the material even harder. Go to tutoring so they can re-teach you the easy way to do everything:)
Class is not overly hard and tests are fairly simple. She is a character though. Do not be surprised if she bites your head off for asking a question. She seems to feels questions are attacks are here and can be very condescending at times.
Dr. Elcessor is a very rude when it comes to asking questions about the material. I will never take her for any chem class. I suggest you take Dr. Woolcock.
I got an A in CHEM 111 with Dr. Woolcock and a D in CHEM 112 with Elcesser. I studied my ass off and I got nowhere on her tests. Even though they were multiple choice and true/false, the answer was still sometimes unclear after she told you what it was.
THE worst teacher ever! I am amazed that she has not been fired. I did not learn one thing, she yelled when you asked questions, we had NO tutoring sessions and she is the most unorganized person I know. My blood pressure went nuts whenever she was around
its like shes in left field in a hockey match.. meaning she come ill prepared for the students that attend. no matter how much effort you put in you just gonna walk away with a F so i would reccomend dropping out of college if you have to take her
She is the worst teacher i have ever has. If you have her get out while u can. She will bit your head off if you ask a question so i advise that you don't.
I love proff. Elcessor! She's very sarcastic, but funny! She makes chem fun, and her class isn't too bad if you take good notes and study. She's great! Take her!
I don't know why people say she yells when you ask questions, I ask them all of the time and she nevers yells. Lecture is a little hard to follow but if you study you will do fine. Lab is fun as can be. I would recommend taking her.
She is such a terrible teacher! She yells at you if you ask questions. Oh, and I wish she would stop drinking that stupid diet coke everyday.

Better off learning on your own
She's funny and nice however her tests are all unclear questions on her tests. She's a nice person but i would not take her for class again.
wow dr. elcessers class is rediculously hard. i try really hard to understand the material but i get so lost in the lecture. shes like all over the place and freaks when you ask questions i have a c and im struggling to keep it. shes funny and thats about the only thing i like about her.
I really like pro. elcesser.she is hilarious. i loved her chem 101 class. she always took the time to make sure we understood the material. she actually takes the whole class period before the day of an exam to go over questions you have. I would take her if i was you.
she is one of my fav teacher yet!! she is always there when i needed help, she made chem fun for me. she even knew my name and i sat in the back of a class of 80! take her if you can!
she can be mean in a large class but 1 on 1 or in lab she is great, kinda weird but funny and very helpful, such a nice lady, never had chem before and got an A
dont ever take her.she makes chem much harder than it has to be. if you do take her you will end up having to teach your self any way.he is the worst, trust me
Dr. E is a good teacher. The class is not easy, but isn't that why we're here in the first place? To be challenged? If you are up to the task, and willing to learn, take her. She will help you via email, office hours, and yes even during lecture. If you want the A, you can get the A.

Dr. Elcessor is an awesome prof. The lady knows her stuff and is every bit willing to help students. If you go to class, take reasonable notes, and study a few nights before an exam you'll be golden. I got an A in her class with really no problem. Also she has a great personality and a cool sense of humor.
anyone who thinks shes easy is crazy... the woman is clearly mad. talking about her "housemates" intead of her husband and her daughter. shes just as random while talking about chemistry. she makes it harder than it needs to be and shes too hard to follow. take anyone else but her
I accidentally took chem for chem majors while being an English major...and even I got a B. Class is difficult, but hard work always brings rewards! She's pretty entertaining too as I can recall.
Elcesser is very loud not only when she is speaking to the whole group but alos if you ask her a question one on one she yells! Her class is also very hard because she uses hard to understand terminology that isn't necessary. Someone should tell her that we already know she is brilliant she should try to tone it down for the rest of us.
Dr. Elcessor is great. She makes chemistry understandable. Her tests are not easy but I really feel like I learned the material. She bends over backward to be fair and to answer questions. I wish she was teaching chem 102.
Dr. Elcessor was a great prof. She really knows her stuff and trys to teach it the most simple understandable way she can. Be there for inclass assign's (easy points). Tests are not the easiest, but if you go to class and give it some effort, you'll have no problem. I did well and chem isn't my favorite !!
She was my absolute favorite professor in the Chem Department. A female Einstein with hair to match, but I loved her anyway.
the hardest teacher and most unclear teacher you will ever meet.
i hate her teaching style...the class should be much easier than what it is
the class itself is hard not directly DR> EL.. she always willing to help during office hours or if you have questions in class. she is a good lecture teacher. Lab she is confusing. she uses power point and puts practice exams up. she is very helpful. do the homework problems. that will help you on the test.
Too enthusiastic about chemistry. Very unclear with her teachings. Tests were killer. If you aren't chem. wiz then you'll probably have a hard time.
Not the best chemistry teacher you will ever have, but not impossible to get an A. Do practice test if you want any chance of passing the tests. Tests hard but I never got above a 85 and got an A in the class.
AWFUL!!! I failed her class because she is very unclear. She has the worst teaching style, and is not very helpful. She's a nice woman but not as a professor. She also picks favorites (mainly guys) so suck up if you can.
You have to concentrate on your work.
Take someone else if you can. The only good thing about the class is she drops one exam score.
She was great!! you have to study and ask questions, and u will have to go to office hours to clear up somethings. she put all the notes on powerpoint so just print them out study and u will be fine!! Also do the homework so you can get extra points
I only had her for lab, but she is extremely helpful, all you have to do is ask. Also, if you have any other chem questions that aren't exactly for her class she will help you then, too
Dr. E is awesome. She is very fair on her tests and gives practice exams that are extremely similar to the test. The online quizzes are a little challenging but she gives take home assignments to make up for them which if you don't get a 10 out of 10 on you shouldn't be in college. She is awesome for lab as well, I would recommend her to anyone
She was the best teacher I could have asked for. I took chem as my science elective, and she was extremely helpful. She made class exciting most of the time and she was an extremely nice woman. All you have to do is talk to her once and she'll help you with anything. Wonderful professor! I am upset I won't be able to take her for chem 112.
Chem 111 was a breeze with Dr. E. She's surprisingly energetic and makes a dull subject interesting. People in her classes don't go to class, fail her tests, and then blame her for their Fs. No - Elcesser is a helpful and knowledgeable prof who gives a ton of practice and review materials. If you do poorly in this class, it's YOUR fault.
Dr. E is helpful and gives lots of points in lab. she is a good choice for lab she drops 2 lab reports and 3 quizzes. she's nice but takes forever to give back grades and complains an whines a lot about unrelated topics. other than that i would definitely recommend her
She means well, but is very goofy. She teaches straight from her power points and puts them all on moodle. Her tests are from the power points and her practice tests also posted on moodle. If you do all the suggested work, you should be fine.
She was a kinda fun and weird professor. Class was super hard unless your amazing @ chem. Exams are killers! Book is useful, some extra credit offered, tutoring is available. *This class is extrememly difficult*
He is nice but a little crazy at times. Her tests seems to diffcult at first glance, but she gives you a almost identitical practice test to practice with and an opportunity ask question during class. The in class work isn't hard (if you GO TO CLASS) and straightforward. If you are failing this class, it not her fault. Go to class and study, simple
If you want to do well, you must go to class! I had to repeat this class because I thought I could just skate by without attending or studying. She has a little bit of a temper but is nice overall. Dr. E gives a lot of in-class bonus points and random in-class assignments that you can't make up so beware!
Class is difficult, but not unreasonable. You must go to class and study often. Dr. E's teaching is very clear and it is possible to learn a lot from her, but reading the textbook and going to class are imperative. Homework is not mandatory per se, but she does assign problems and checks them randomly for bonus points. Did I mention go to class?
a nice woman, but is very unclear and babbles a lot. She picks favorites and will make it very difficult for you to ask a question for help. She teases the people who ask questions in class, but if you go to her office, she will tell you you should have asked in class. Go to class and do study guides, but be prepared: she switches stuff around.
This class was so difficult. You MUST use your book. She doesnt explain anything in class and there is no examples. Tests were also hard
Dr. E is a very good Chemistry teacher. Im actually surprised at her rating. She's very helpful and she actually cares about her students. I had her for Chem 111 and i took her again for 112. GO TO CLASS and keep up with your reading and those problems she gives you and you'll be fine. Work will be needed to be put in but you will learn a lot.
If you know what is best for you NEVER TAKE A CHEM CLASS WITH HER. This class was made a million times harder then it should have been. If you are a teachers pet she will love you. Our last exam... the average was a 68%. That should tell you something. It is impossible to do well in this class. She gives a practice exam, It doesnt even help. AVIOD!
This class was awful. I've had two bad chemistry professors now and she awful compared to the first. She doesn't explain anything and when she does she speaks it and doesn't write it. Her practice exams DO NOT help and when asking a question most times she makes you feel stupid for asking. I would avoid her if possible.
I took her last semester loved her, but this semester she went off the deep end when it came to teaching us. Her powerpoints were all questions which you had to fill in but she talked way to fast and was left lost. Never showed anything on the board. Instead of teaching she made us do worksheets every class with other ppl to turn in. :(
I really liked Dr. E. She was kind of no-nonsense. She'd give us the chemistry and we'd have to do it. My second semester she did mostly give worksheets in class, but she would help you if you asked questions and she was always helpful during office hours. Doing as many practice problems as you can is the key to success in her class.
She doesn't teach very well, have to teach yourself. Gives us assign. and half the stuff is wrong. I go to her office hrs and she makes me feel like Im inconveniencing her. I ask her ?s and she wld tell me she didn't understand the topic! On her prac. exam she used the wrong equation! How are we supposed to learn the material if she dosent know it!
She is a very tough professor. I had learned most of the information taught in high school and still struggled. I watched lot of YouTube videos and taught myself almost everything. She gets off subject a lot.
If I could go back, I would have avoided her by all means. She's so hard to talk to, is rude, and makes you feel like an idiot. I went to every class, studied & still received a C in the class. The class average on every exam was around a 60%. This is your warning.
She does not explain content. Rather, reads off her powerpoint. If you took chemistry in high school you'll get a B. Tests are tough. She gives you a practice exam but I did them fully and understood the content 100% and ended up with high Cs on my exams. She's just really tough and doesn't explain anything. She is not nice. NOT approachable.
You're in college. Show up on time, do your work, & be respectful. She's awesome. Very helpful, just show that you care & want to put the money you're spending to work.
Really cares
This is an entry level Chemistry course, and she made it so much harder than it had to be. The majority of this is taught in high school chem classes, but she makes it much more complex than necessary. When asking for help or clarification in an email, responses are short, condescending, and often don't even help with the issue at hand.
HANDS DOWN THE BEST CHEMISTRY PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD. I was afraid of chemistry before this class. I think the majority of these bad reviews must be from people who just didn't pay attention AT ALL or never studied. She doesnt treat you like a baby -- you need to do the work yourself. But she makes herself available for any help you might need.
She knows what she's talking about but definitely study.
She is obviously very intelligent and sweet, but does not properly prepare to teach her lectures. Extremely disorganized. Exams are all multiple choice, claims she doesn't try to trick you but some questions are A-F which includes fill in your own answer. Only reason I got an A is because her practice exam is extremely similar to the actual exam.
Had her for lab and is pretty good. She makes all of her labs easy to understand, will even help if you need it. There is a quiz every week for 10pts and a paper due every lab. Definitely can be tough on grading but cares about her students succeeding if you put in the effort. Overall a solid choice for Chem lab, I would definitely take her again.
Dr E. is overall a very helpful professor. She is willing to help anyone she can. If you can, attend office hours for help. Her lab reports are quite confusing and they often require a lot of work. She also has a quiz every week and a pre lab always due before lab. Always be prepared before lab, or you wont pass.
She is a terrible professor. She is very arrogant when it comes to help and acts like your stupid if you cant get the answer. After awhile she stopped coming over to answer my questions. So far we have done 4 lab reports and she has yet to put in a grade for a single one so you dont know if you are doing anything wrong to improve
WENDY! Ah!! A stellar woman! Can someone get her the professor of the year award?? An AMAZING prof! Very clear about her expectations, always thorough with all of her criteria. Hands down the best prof i've had at IUP yet.
I hate going to this class. All it is a PowerPoint she reads off of then random quizzes. The tests are long and hard. Shes very mean.
Wendy provides us with plenty of practice for the exams. She provides us with practice exams that are just like the actual exam and many worksheets. She has always gave us a heads up on when the "pop quizzes" will be and what to expect. She is an amazing professor and makes CHEM101 very simple and understandable. I would definitely take her again
Awful class. She gets off topic from her lectures. Our class is currently 3 weeks behind in lecture so we don't understand anything going on in lab. Tests are okay if you study.
A lot of pop quizzes, but shes a great teacher and she wants to help you do well. Heavy in lectures, but she gets off topic sometimes
She gets off topic easily causing my class to be weeks behind. Lecture sucks and if you ask her questions she will embarrass you
Shes an arrogant professor. If you ask questions she will act like your dumb. Theres pop quizzes all the time and they can be challenging. Would not recommend taking her unless you are already great at chem
I dread going to this class. Should of changed professors when i had the chance
Shes the worst
Lots of pop quizzes. Lecture is long and boring, shes not very helpful either
This class was way to difficult for no reason. She made things harder then they needed to be
Doesn't explain much in lecture and expects you to understand. If you ask a question she makes you feel dumb in front of everyone. Gets side tracked all of the time and is behind in class so labs are more difficult.
Nice person. Always gets side tracked during class. She doesnt spend much time explaining things. Never ask a question because she will make you look stupid even if it is something that she didn't explain well. In class assignments and study guides are the test. This class was tough, but not my hardest.
This class blows
Dr. E was very kind and went at a nice pace through Chem 101. I really appreciated how your work ethic reflects your grade in her class. We covered a lot in chem 101 and I got overwhelmed toward the end when she sped up with her lectures. Hopefully, she will be just as great in chem 102!
Ahhh! I love this woman. Her class is very tough even if you go to class everyday. Make sure to go to SI sessions, theyll save you. Shes very accessible outside of class if you email her. Very nice woman but does get side tracked in class. You have to study everyday to get a good grade in this class
Dr. E is a really nice lady. She provided us practice worksheets and gave us the opportunity to prepare for some pop quizzes. Make sure to either print out the lecture slides or take notes in class because what she covers in class will be on the test. I did not use the book much, maybe once or twice for practice problems and definitions. Go to SI.
Elcessor is the best chem teacher you can choose. Go to SI. She cares that you pass her class. She gives in class assignment and quizes. She gives bonus and is very helpful. She does get side tracked but she is so funny and does take her time explaining topics so you might fall behind other classes but she will only test you on what you cover
I took her for both Chem 101/102. Didn't open the book once however it may help someone unfamiliar with chemistry. She is a little wacky and gets distracted easily but grading is very upfront. Attendance isn't taken but she does rather often random in-class asignments so go to class! Overall, as long as you can handle a quirky teacher, easy class!
Wendy is a great professor and she cares a lot about her students, she wants you to do well. She puts her slides online, and gives study guides that match up well with the exams, which are average difficulty, just study her practice tests. She is the best lab teacher, she's so helpful and lets you take your labs home if you don't finish.
Dr. Elcesser was a great professor. If you show up to class and pay attention you will pass. She creates her own study guides for the exams and the exams are basically the same questions from the study guides.
Elcessor is a nice woman but one of the most difficult teachers I have ever had. She does not explain anything and expects you to know what she is talking about. The tests are manageable and her Tophat assignments are passible but if you do not do well on the tests, you need to be perfect on the assignments online.
Easiest Chemistry professor I ever had. The quizzes are exactly like the homework she gives out beforehand. She also gives practice exams that are exactly like the exams. She gets off topic a lot, but she is kind lady. Once a week she would stay late for open tutoring and would just do practice problems until you understood. She is awesome.
Even though I want to be nice because this is our first semester on zoom, she has the worst attitude with everyone, especially when you ask a question! She gets off topic in class too often and doesn't really teach but complains the whole time. Unless you come into the class knowing everything about chemistry, you will be lost. Don't recommend!
Dr. Elcessor helped me learn so much. Her tophat assignments are easy and helpful, as well as her practice exams. The practice exams are almost identical to the actual tests. She taught clearly and effectively, which I give big props to during the pandemic! Shes also a great lab teacher. Im taking her again next semester! Highly recommend!!
Wasn't the ideal professor to take a chem class with. Got mad when simple questions were asked. Got side tracked multiple times about different topics. Did not review anything before exams. Did not really tell us where in the textbook to look at. Only good thing was bonus point opportunities.
Don't recommend taking her if u don't have to. She lectures quickly, vague, and all over. She never really answers questions and if she does, she makes fun of u for asking or is mean about it. Her class is bearable but not enjoyable or easy at all. Group chats are the only reason I made it through this class. Unless u already know chem, don't take.
I had Dr. E for lecture and lab. Her lectures were always straight forward and she provided practice exams before every exam that were almost identical to the test itself. I highly recommend that you take the time to do those! In lab, she was always clear when giving instructions and was willing to help with any questions you had. Great professor!
she is not great at explaining things which made it hard to get a good grade. I had her online and she had very little patience for students and for zoom and she was mean when you asked a question. she also continued sending my class emails after that class ended. she rushes and is sloppy using computers.
She judges you if you go to her office hours and basically insults you if you don't know how to do it. Please study for her tests with the practice exams she gives or you won't pass. I had to learn everything all over again with Youtube. So if you don't have to take a class with her, DON'T!! And if you do, wait for a different professor.
