Very nice easy going teacher. Really wants to help the students!
She was the spawn from hell. Never take her unless you're just a genius or love Anatomy and Physiology. Didn't wamt to help her students, when asked for help she said: "I'm not here to hold your hand, I don't even hold my own daughters hand!" BEWARE!!
One of the best teachers I ever had. Provides chapter outlines. Test format is multiple choice/matching/true-false and short essay. If you attend lecture AND listen you should do well.
This teacher is a gem! She is very good at what she does. Very organized, gives fair tests, and you will learn something! You do have to work!Excellent quality ! High recommendations!
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!! Will not curve or give you a break on any tests... which are very, very hard. Unless you want to spend every waking moment outside of class studying, do NOT take her.
WOW! Scattered, confusing lectures. Extremely difficult tests with those dreaded essay questions that she just loves to give. Almost impossible in the 7 1/2 week session I took, this would probably be a difficult class with Dr. Kuhn even in the longer session.
Dr. Kuhn is an awesome teacher. She really knows what she is talking about. I was really intimidated at first, because she said that her class was more difficult than A&P I. The class is really hard, I will admit, & her tests are NOT a piece of cake. You will have to study. But don't listen to the whiners on this site urging you not to take he
She is very tricky with her tests. Lots of essay and fill in the blank. Impossible 8 week course to take with her. Might be better with the 15 weeks, but I wouldn't take her again. I worked really hard for a the C that I recieved.
Very smart lady, works you to the bone though. She expects you to study and study. She tries to help when she knows one is struggling, but beware if you must take her, NOT EASY.
Dr. Kuhn set expectations but provides you with everything you need to succeed. You will need to study and work hard. I took her in a 15 week course and EARNED an A. I work 60 hours per week, have a wife and 2 year old so stop crying. My son is 2 and he cries less than these people do.
She is very good at using analagies and real life scenarios in order to help you understand the topic. She is also great at breaking the subject down and explaining it thouroughly.
Good teacher. The course is tough, I took it in 7 1/2 weeks and had to study every day to stay on top of the work load. This is not impossible to take in 7 1/2 weeks you just have to apply yourself. I got an A so it's possible to do well. Dr. Kuhn will answer any and all questions and is always asking for questions from the class.
Great instructor
You never know whats going to be on her test. She likes to keep the details a secret. Lecture is good-very helpful. yLab is pointless but you have to go b/c its 10 points..She grades you for coming to labs but not lectures. She offers 45 points of extra credit. TESTS are HARD! she also gives pop quizzes once a week.Take her if you like to study.
Tests are incredibly hard, she does include essay questions on lecture and lab exams. Her exam questions are so detailed that if you didn't read and memorize every word from the text and her outlines you will go down in flames. You will need to study at least 40 hours a week to get through her class with a B. Good luck; praying won't hurt!
Great teacher. She knows her subject, makes it interesting, and challenges students with her tests. You have to study to get a good grade, but isn't that the way it should be?
Great professor, she actually teaches the class. You must study to pass this class, it is very hard but if you study her outlines the test are easy. STUDY OUTLINES. If you really want to learn please take her. If you want an easy class she is not for you. I would take her again.
She's a great techer. It was easy for me to ask questions, which is not always easy. Some teachers can rush you, or they can be sarcastic. She's not, she's very nice and funny. If you study her outline notes and lectures you'll get an excellent grade. All her tests are right from her notes. I had a great semester. And all Bio 2640 classes are hard!
Good teacher, covers the subject well. Answers questions without complaint. The class isn't easy, but it's not meant to be. Had to study quite a bit but I got an A.
Dr. Kuhn is a very nice lady and always willing to answer questions. She wants you to succeed. The class is very tough. Expect to work for your grade.
very nice woman, very helpful, easy to understand her. it is a very hard class and you have to work hard to get an A, but if you really want to learn, take her. the lubs are not bad at all
Very difficult class at least half of the class ends up dropping.
Physiology is difficult and I expected this class to be hard. The lectures didn't hit on the specifics her exams require Tests have multiple correct answers but you have to pick the "most correct" answer. I honestly feel that Dr. Kuhn wants you to do well and has in interest in the subject, just doesn't present the material in an approachable way.
Wonderful teacher! Notes are extremely useful and attending lecture is fairly important. Tests are difficult, but that should be expected with an AP II course. She offers a good amount of extra credit. VERY helpful! A professor, that you can tell, enjoys what they are doing.
The worst professor I have ever had. Does not know how to teach a class. All tests are multiple choice, matching, and essay questions. Lab quiz's were not bad. Had to learn everything on my own, she did not teach anything just read off of pre-made slides.
Dr. Kuhn was a very good professor. The material is very difficult, but she teaches it in a way you can understand. She provides ample extra credit. Tests are fair, but you must study hard! Labs are easy and enjoyable. Got an A.
Today dated 02-24-2011, Half of the class dropped (Winter 2011). Her material is totally confused, lectures did not hit on test, I think taking her is a wastage of time.
Her tests are very / extremely hard. Material did not covered everything in tests.
Its a very bad class for me, Don't take her...
Taking her, experience was so much bad. Test didn't cover the all. Lab quiz are fair but couln't tell points for each questions. Also confusing...
DO not sign up for this professor. She is not helpful at all. Her tests are impossible and unrelevant to what she is trying to teach. Barely used the textbook. Labs were not helpful at all.
VERY difficult class. Dr. Kuhn is very nice and helpful, but her exams are brutal. I study quite a bit and do take online quizzes before the exams (getting A's on them) and still do poorly. I am taking classes to earn a second degree (I took BIO classes 12 years ago) and I am struggling, getting D's on exams and B's on lab quizzes. Nice professor.
She was a great teacher. You will need to READ the BOOK in order to pass this class. I loved this class ... p.s. it is required to dissect things, so don't be surprised.
You have to study for your grades, but if you attend class, and study the powerpoints, you can do pretty well in the class. The labs actually help you understand the material, not like AP1. She answers questions, and will help you during office hours and class. You will end up knowing the material.
Even worse than the teacher who teaches AP1. When she tests for anatomy she throws in Physiology (which she doesn't tell you to look at)... Tests don't even consist of the bigger concepts. She likes to focus on little bitty concepts that you forgot she said during her SUPER BORING LECTURE! She acts nice but honestly she really doesn't care. ARGH!
Great teacher you have to study to get a good grade in this class. Make sure you do your extra credit work it helps.
Great teacher I have learned a lot.
FA12-Took a min to get used to style-bombed test #1. Lectures=overview w/o terms at the uninterested student enrolled solely for class with lab requirement level. tests=details.Labs=tedious/boring.Opps for EC.Paper/pres=easy.Book req'd for Aplia access.Need to put in effort.I did not, barely managed B.She expects you to read. Not easy but not bad.
OMG don't even think about taking her class, run for your life! I am an great student, always passed my science classes with A's and B's with top professors. She is just mean. Her tests have so little to do with the material and very confusing. Now taking 4 classes & have all A's but failing her class despite all effort. You have been warned!
She never wants to help you, and she talks about the class badly to other professors. I WARN YOU WORST PROFESSOR EVER!
Great professor. The tests are brutal and you cannot guess. Pay attention and you will get an A. Class is not easy, but it is a science class and not subjective and if you are going into the medical field, you should study. Very nice and fair.
you will need to study!!! do all the homework, take the quizzes and do well on the presentation. it's a tough class and she likes to answer a question with a question but only to make you think so you will learn the material. I got an A, I appreciate her toughness, but it was work.
You will need to study!!! she answers questions with a question but it makes you think. tough class but she wants you to learn. I would recommend her for serious students.
I have attended classes at a university and another community college before I attended Oakland in 2013. This professor is by for my least favorite. I love a professor that whats to help those who want to learn and one that loves to teach. This professor has no passion for teaching and is the least bit interested to helping her students.
Very nice and knowledgeable. She is organized and answers emails fast. Always willing to help and not ego-filled.
Great teacher. Hard material. Organized and helpful. Emails responses are fast and detailed. Fair and friendly. Would take her again.
The hardest class that I have taken at OCC. Professor Kuhn is a difficult grader, but I believe all of her tests and quizzes were fair. The material is difficult because it is an A&P II class, so it is not necessarily a reflection of her "poor teaching" if you are unable to understand material. They are difficult concepts to grasp. Read the book!
the most difficult course in my 6 years of colleges that I have encountered. This class is an introductory physiology course. It will be your first encounter with many body systems and human physiology. The problem is that she teaches and gives exams like a medical school professor. will not treat you as a beginner to the body. Think Critically...
Lectures are long and boring, her study guides don't follow the test. You really have to look over and study lecture outlines and her powerpoint's if provided. When you ask for help she tells you to look at your notes or book mainly dealing with labs.
Dr. Kuhn's tests are pretty challenging, however there are several extra credit opportunities to take advantage of. Be ready to read and basically memorize every single thing presented in the PPTs. I wish the lab portion was a little more hands on. Overall, Dr. Kuhn is a knowledgeable professor who seems to enjoy teaching her class.
At first, I thought I really liked her. She seemed like a nice person. Now I have come to the conclusion that I may like her as a person but I definitely don't like her as a teacher. Every time a student asked her a question she would respond with a question. Which can become extremely frustrating when you already don't understand.
One of the worst teachers I have taken it a long time. She is rude, will not answer questions, and don't ask for help otherwise you will just hear "It's in your book". Her tests are very hard and not easy to pass even if you study for daysand her extra credit isn't really worth the .5 on your overall grade. Would not recommend or take her again.
lecture style does not match testing style. tests are poorly worded and very difficult
Mrs. Kuhn is an awesome teacher. Always quick to help when you're having trouble understanding something super down to earth and her humor lightens up the seriousness of the class. Study for tests study guides are given (very helpful). And put in the effort not a 'blow off' class or instructor, but well worth the experience!
Made one of the lab quizzes worth four times as much as any of the others, declined to tell us this, and NEVER WENT OVER ANY OF THE MATERIAL ON THIS QUIZ IN LAB OR LECTURE. Absolutely ridiculous as a professor. I am not the only one in the class that feels she's out to make her students fail. So disappointed!!!
Her lectures are boring. Her PPS are useless nothing on the test from there. Nothing helpful in her study guide. it's basically everything from there! nothing helpful in her study guide. It's basically everything from the book in her Labs she adds more info which in not even on lab book. she takes the half pints off from misspelling.
I am surprised by the other entries. This is hard material, but Professor Kuhn goes over it very well. There are online practice questions for each chapter, some class reviews, study guides for the lab quizzes and tests. You do have to spend time for the class, so plan for that. Overall a good instructor.
If you're looking for an easy class, this is not it. Professor Kuhn is a very tough grader; her exam are very, very difficult. She does provide study guides for your and they're helpful if you study in great detail. Don't skip class, don't slack off, study more of the physiology than anatomy and you'll be fine.
Worst teacher Ive ever had as a college student. I wish I could give her a zero out of five honestly. Poorly worded exams, harsh grading and boring lectures are just a few things I disliked. I find myself teaching the entire lesson to myself at home every night because shes so poor at teaching. Youve been warned!
This is a hard class. No for students that don't commit themselves to doing the work. Read the chapters, do the pre lab quizzes, come to class and take notes during the lectures and watch some YouTube videos on the topics that you don't understand and you will be fine. If you want to pass, you have to EARN it in her class.
Really made you think on the tests and quizzes, but her lectures matched them perfectly and there was plenty of extra credit.
I loved taking Dr. Kuhn. She wants everyone to do well in class. You need to read the book, attend lectures, and use additional resources. This class is not for students who just want to get an easy A. YOU NEED TO EARN IT!! Her tests are hard, but it makes you think and apply information for future courses or any career in the medical field.
I had Dr. Kuhn for A&P II in 2016. At the time, her class was the hardest class that I had taken. Physiology isn't something you can grasp the night before an exam. This class made me learn how to actually study. Today, I am a junior in a BSN program. Now I see why her class was so hard. She is preparing you for a career in the medical field! ;)
Kuhn wasn't terrible but I will not take another class with her. She's super boring and makes dumb jokes in class that no one cares about. Most people slept through her class. It wasn't fun at all and she was terrible at answering questions. She gave a lot of easy extra credit. tests were terribly written and hard
Not caring at all. She doesnt care if you retain the information. She doesnt like answering questions AT ALL! How do you expect us to learn and understand the information if our questions never get answered.
She was very condescending and if you ask a question not during lecture she will be like the answer is in your textbook. Probably one of the most unhelpful professors I've ever had.
I respect Dr. Kuhn a lot. She does not give credit where its not due and you will have to work for your grade in her class, but she makes this very clear from the beginning. You wont need the book very much if you attend all her lectures and fill in the notes she provides. Do all the extra credit and make sure to study and you can get an A.
Nice lady, DON'T TAKE HER CLASS. UNLESS YOU ARE OBSESSED WITH BIOLOGY OR YOUR A BIOLOGY MAJOR. She gives 2 quizes and 1 test per chapter. Her test are insanely long. Multiple choice, fill in the blank, and short answers. She takes off lots of points for missed labs or if you don't sign out. She is scattered brain and is hard to follow lecture
Wonderfully kind, genuinely cares for students. Halfway through the sem we went online for COVID, her online videos were just as good as in-person. I enjoy her lectures, she's eager to explain. There are a good amount of tests, "lab tests" and "lecture tests." Tests became much easier once we went online, obviously. I would take her class again!
Yall when I say steer away, please save yourself. She is a very nice person, but the way she teaches this class is not okay. Very test heavy. 4 tests a week- I am not exaggerating. She teaches this course as if all of the students are going into medical school. This course taught me how to cram to barely pass- I dont feel like I learned anything
Hardest class at OCC. The professor is super unorganized, & gives many tests every week. All of the learning & studying is done on your own. Class time is spent playing jeopardy that doesnt help at all. We took at least 12 tests in the semester. It will consume at least 12 hours a week if you want to do well. Save yourself!! Pick someone else.
Save yourself. I'm serious. And if you decide to try it and not believe my comment because I only ended with a B+, you'll probably end up dropping halfway through like more than 50% of the class did anyway. So many exams! And unless you schedule meetings with her, you will never know what answers you got wrong the whole semester
INSANE number of quizzes/tests that are hard to study for as if you are going to be a medical doctor. Expectations seem to be 12+ hours a week of studying. Unrealistic way of teaching and doesn't care. Shows no empathy for her students. If over half the class is failing, why wouldn't that be a red flag to you? DO NOT TAKE. Such a joke.
UNORGANIZED CHAOS. Gets frustrated when she gets too many questions and tells us to read the book instead of helping us through. She explains things at a Doctorate level which none of us intro to bio students are, and I dont think she understands that. Never expect an A on anything. Take a different professor if you dont want your hopes shattered.
Despite what reviews say, she is a fantastic teacher. This is not a use it and lose it course; it is application of knowledge based. I personally loved Professor Kuhn and the way she explains things. Get ready to study hard but you will be better for it in the long run. My only wish was to be more responsive via email. Otherwise, great!
She's a great teacher!! The labs are interesting and informative.
Doesn't help when you ask her questions on assignments, basically have to teach yourself. My own tutor said I have a hard instructor and I should drop the class.
teacher never responds to emails and will not help if questions asked, you are given a question to your questions.
Expects A+ work when she teaches at a D- level. Very nit picky. I don't think I got an A on anything, She also will mark your work wrong without saying why, and she assigns essays. The last essay I got back I didn't even get to see why I missed points. How am I suppose to learn from my mistakes if I cant see what I did wrong? I don't get this one.
Don't bother taking this class. Not even one month in and almost the whole class went from being full to very little. She NEVER answers questions as much as she boasts about it class or on her syllabus. Never explains anything thoroughly, purposely re-words quizzes and never explains what you got wrong. She'll never go over anything w/ hw or tests.
She's a nice lady, and very brilliant. However, she doesn't realize that we are STUDENTS, not professional doctors. Her labs are unorganized and with no direction. I'm basically teaching myself this class, and she doesn't give any feedback on the short answer essay portion of the tests. The tests are worded in a way that sets you up to fail.
This class is not an easy A, you will work very hard and earn your grade. Most of her exams are big-picture, concept comprehension, not memorization. I put in a lot of effort, working full time in a hospital, along with taking an additional science class, to get my grade. There is no slacking, but it feels good to see your effort pay off.
Monotonous unhelpful lectures, barely answers questions, doesn't allow you to keep tests and quizzes for review, and makes you print out lots of paperwork. I would say if you do better with learning on your own then she is a good fit, but for someone like me who needs a bit more assistance with unfamiliar topics, her class will not be easy for you.
Do not take this class. She doesn't make any sense in her lectures she over explains to the point where it doesn't make any sense, she isn't tech savvy at all, she's a nice person it's just i don't like how she teaches her class.
Cannot answer questions without being demeaning or condescending. Forces students to print them and will mark down if you can't. ABLEIST. Talks highly of positive eugenics. Brought up disabled niece and she blatantly said "she's likely to die young", and upon talking about the distress she was confused as to why I was upset.
I took this class despite reading the bad reviews because I didn't have any other options that would fit in my schedule. There were a total of 17 tests/quizzes in a 15-week course. Her lectures were long and hard to follow. There was more time spent lecturing in lab than doing any lab activities. Tests are full of trick questions.
Believe the other reviews. I'm usually critical of ratings but this professor is annoyingly absurd. Dings students on spelling in quizzes but literally misspells herself on every PowerPoint slide, homework assignment and quiz or test. 8 answer MC questions. Admits she ended up teaching longer than she wanted, and it shows.
Listen, participate and learn!! Good class, she is clear about what she expects!
I always had more questions than answers leaving each class. She would not explain things in a clear manner whatsoever, making it very hard to understand lectures. I cried so many times because I thought I was going to fail the class. Out of 4 classes last semester, this is the only class that I had such an awful experience with.
Most of the students are failing the tests and all the time we are told "we are only going to go over the basics", then tests deep dive into specifics. I did not pay Oakland to ruin my GPA , we dont need this class at other colleges. The night before a 4 chaper test we received 37 pages of lab due the same day of the test. Biggest mistake ever!!
Dropped this class 3/4 of the way through, not because I was failing, but I demanded more from the school to provide an instructor that matched the materials to the class level better. Mrs. Kuhn is a very nice person, but the 1 star reviews are accurate. - Had I used rate my professor ahead of time I would have been better off. Sorry.
I believed this professor had a good purpose behind her work. She truly cared on wanting the best for your future. She grades tough but if you study, you will do fine.
Professor Kuhn was a very hard teacher. Your questions will never be answered, only answered with another question. She is a very tough grader, there are 2 essays and if you think your good at writing essays, better be the best essay you've ever written. Tests for me were impossible, many people dropped from her class while I was in it.
One of the worst classes I've taken. She blames students for study habits, her content is very unorganized. Study guides are vague, one (maybe more) test(s) included material not on the study guide. Tests also have two parts. Grading is harsh. You teach yourself. She admitted her guides are rushed and broad. Poor feedback and structure overall.
At semester start we had about 30 people, by end there was less than 10. Won't update D2L or answer emails. Answers questions with another question, if you still don't understand she tells you theres "nothing else she can do". Overly complicated and long labs and quizzes every other week (lots of info you never went over). Honestly very rude woman
Terrible, Never willing to help and so rude. started class with 30+ people and about 5 people remained at the end
"I hear you" is all we heard. But no she never heard us she listened to our complains but never did anything to help. The class average on the first test was 40% and we were blamed and she said "you guys didnt study" and handed out a paper to "help" us study. If it were one or 2 people that did bad id accept it but it was the whole class!
I already have two University degrees, I took this class as a prerequisite for graduate school. Late on grading assignments, Will frequently forget to open assignments for submission, extremely hard tests. I would quite literally rather chew a jean jacket than take this class again.
Her study guides have nothing to do with her test. Often messes up on them and then doesnt correct the grade. Tells you to watch her lecture videos and "pay attention to what she talks about the most", and then goes off on long tangents and say "But you dont need to know that". Loses track of what shes talking about.I paid for youtube to teach me.
