I did not like this class at all. In fact I ended up dropping the class due to the unfairness in her grading. I put a lot of hard work into her assignments and she gave me a C on my first speech. Let's just put it this way, when I told her I was dropping the class she said "I should try harder next time". She is very negative and strict.

IF YOU LIKE CLASSES WHERE THE TEACHER GIVES YOU A TON OF WORK, SPEECHES, TESTS, AND A BUNCH OF HAND OUTS YOU HAVE TO READ, THEN TAKE THIS FAKE, WACK CLASS. I'M TELLING YOU STRAIGHT UP, UNLIKE THOSE OTHER KISS ASS COMMENTS WRITTEN BEFORE THIS ONE. SHE ALSO TALKS THE WHOLE CLASS AND IT SEEMS LIKE IF SHE IS NEVER GOING TO SHUT UP. HUFFMAN IS BETTER.

I took her class and thought that she gives too much work and grades you extremely hard on your speeches. If you do a good speech she will even give you a bad grade because of the "structure" of your speech, which I found to be a complete cop-out. She gives you speeches, tests (hard) and you still have to do all kinds of things in class, overboard.

she thinks everyone who takes her class is majoring in speech. she puts increadibly high standards on your speechs and tests. arroagant too

if you like being worked hard, being made fell stupid, and like super tough exams, only to get a cr@ppy grade in the end then by all means take this teacher

I dropped her class after completing 2/3 of the course. I had gotten A's on my test but really got tired of her criticism of myself and others. She intentionally makes it harder and more uncomfortable than neccessary. Tries to make the class more than what it is - a requirement to bigger and better things. Dropped to preserve GPA.

This teacher is the worst teacher ever. She's too strict and does not explain throughly. She's made me re-do my assignment because she's not satisfied with the work. Do not take her at all. I recommend to take someone else.

Be prepared to study for this class. She expects alot from her students and if you fall behind it make the rest of the semester difficult. She grades hard and demands great work but she is somewhat lenient. Very difficult class considering it is only a 101 class.

Horrible teacher! She isn't very clear on what she wants and expects way too much. I do not recommend her!

I'm currently taking her and I do not like her as a teacher I'm actually thinking of dropping her class with a W she expects way too much and she isn't very clear on how to do the assignments. The speeches are difficult and the quizzes are easy as long as you read. I've bumped heads with her because she expects us to figure stuff on our own.

First days were nice we introduced ourselves and did easy speeches. Then it got tough, she started giving out way harder speeches plus you had to attach a critiqued article and an essay, AN ESSAY! i had to miss once and thats when i really got lost. She is a nice person but i did feel a responsibility of coming and saving some of you from an F

Hardly anything to do with speech. You will spend more time researching and writing papers than learning how to speak in front of an audience. Take someone else. I cannot stand this professor. Condescending attitude. Cherry picks for grading. DO NOT TAKE.

Expects way too much in such little time! Do not take! If you miss a quiz or an assignment you will not pass this class. Only gives about 3 days to prepare for a speech. If you are good at giving speeches this might not be as difficult but she still expects essays with her speeches! It consumes plenty of your time. Would not recommend

Do not expect anything more than mediocre lectures with professor lai. She is very condescending and has a bad attitude towards students, talks students down and does not try to help. talks about things that do not have to do with speeches or weekly quizzes.. gives little time to prepare a speech, and a tough grader. do not recommend this class!

More than half of the students dropped the class after seeing what she expects from her students. Gives way too much work to do in such little time. If you miss one quiz consider yourself not getting a passing grade. Makes you write essays with your speeches and makes you work extremely hard for a passing grade. Would not recommend.

At first teacher says that the class isn't hard nor that she won't expect much. Lies. Her grading methods are too harsh for a 101 class. By the ending weeks there was less than 10 people in the class and even then the best student in the class had a 'C'. Class felt more like an English class instead of a Speech because of all the papers. 0/10.

You know all these "good" comments claiming they got a B in the class. Its actually professor Lai writing them. She is trying so hard to not drop down to 1.0 or less that she constantly has to come every once in a while and give herself a good rating. She cant even be creative she literally writes the same thing doesnt even try at all its so funny

I registered for Mrs. Lai speech 101 class and had to drop the class due to excessive requirements she was asking for. Since the beginning she already mentioned that only a few students will pass the class with a C if you try your hardest. You will still have a C even if you attended class everyday turned in all assignments and did all speeches.

I read a comment earlier saying she was of no use when you try to ask her a question. She tries to make you answer your own question. THE POINT OF THE QUESTION IS BECAUSE I DONT KNOW. When a miracle happens and she does answer its completely unrelated to what my question was. And then she gets mad. I wish i had space to write more. Dont take!!!!!

Thought this was gonna be a fun and good class to learn from but in reality, she barely teaches and doesnt teach good content at all. When I asked for a speech outline check or more information to understand she just laughs and thinks its all a joke. Needs to get better learning material and teaching level. Very bad teacher. Would not recommend.

She is too strict

The class was not what I expected at all, she made it seem like it would be a fun class but it was the complete opposite. Her lectures were very confusing and hard to follow, when you ask her questions she doesn't clearly answer them. She is very hard when it comes to grading assignments. I would not recommend this class!

Do not take this class, I took her my second semester and was in for a rude awakening. She is not a good teacher and gets mad at the class when they all do not meet her standards which is because her unclear teaching. Also gives ridiculous analogy on why you should not have stage freight. Awful

Ms. Lai is was one of the worst professors I have ever had. Doesn't matter if you are an amazing student with a phenomenal GPA, this class will lower it. I had all A's in my other courses, yet with this one I scraped for just a B-. She doesn't know how to teach whatsoever. She should wake up and realize Public Speaking 101 is an INTRODUCTORY class.

DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR . This professor would not make anything clear.

Wendy, if this many people have a problem with you then you are the problem. Stop being stubborn and be a better person. I will pray for you at church.

She does an awful job at teaching the material. I've known a lot of bad teachers in my time, none nowhere as irresponsible of her position of a professor as herself. She really does not take the time to help out the students and barely puts in any effort to her lectures.

This professor is a pain most times of the day, even when you try your best there. Very rude at times she doesn't appear to have redeeming qualities Speech is supposed to be a fun and interesting experience where people learn to use their voice to inform others, if you want that; avoid taking Wendy Lai.

She acted nice in the beginning, then became a really rude instructor, would not recommend. At the start of the semester, there were over 30+ students, and by the end, only 5 students remained.
