Good teacher, although she din't come to class half of the time. Two assignments and then the final. EASY A, as long as you do the work.

The class was pretty boring, but the teacher was easy! Hard to pay attention because there is never a real point it seems like, but easy passing grade!

I thought that she was a good teacher, but then I began to feel like she was being nit picky about my speech. I was told by other class members that I did very very well on my last speech. To get an "A" be sure to work on "application papers" before the end of term, go to class and pay attention to the hand-outs relating to speech projects. Most of your grade is based on TWO speeches and a set of text book application papers...so put effort into them. I showed up and was not perfect on my speeches, but still got an A.

Great teacher. Clearly states what she wants you to do and what assignments need to be completed. She grades fair. Definately would recommend.

I am still in her class. Very easy class, only 2 speeches 7-9 minutes. Seems long, but actually easy if you are prepared. If you prefer to do more short speeches then 2 long ones, don't take her. The rest of the semester was filled with very easy tasks, group projects to build communication, and all in all I felt I learned a lot about the subjec

Online Course. To complain its self taught is the dumbest complaint, its speech not rocket science. Very involved course, requires actual work and scheduled time. Must be good w/ webcam and mic and friends for your live speeches. Stay on track and its an easy A. Responds M-F to emails.

The class is alot of work. But the modules are well organized and the assignments are useful. Dr. Mitchell is always available for questions. Don't take the class if you are a slacker...you will be frustrated like others.

what? I can't believe some of the remarks I read about Dr. Mitchell. I think some of the upset people took her online course. I had her Fall 2007 at Seminole campus and she was the best teacher I ever had. She gave me several pep talks to help me through the class and keep me at SPC. I wanted to quit.

if you want a boring lecture class don't take this. alot of small group assignments in class. the teacher has energy and is fun.

This class was very well taught, and Miss Mitchell is amazing. Sure the speeches come at you in the end but you need to learn about speaking before you do it. She was entertaining and helpful A++

I enjoyed this class. The two big speeches aren't bad at all. Once you get over the first the second should be easy. Don't start the application papers too late. Good class overall. she is hot too.

Nobody wants to take Public Speaking! But I liked this teacher a lot during the speeches she looks at you and smiles the entire time, so there's always a friendly face to look at. I really enjoyed it!

overall she's very nice, but she pissed me off about how she took me off for points on my speeches that didn't need to be (for example, she put I never cited my sources when I clearly did).

I had Dr. Mitchell online. The class is very organized. She answers emails quickly. She gives you everything you need for the speeches. Do the work in the class and you will get a decent grade.

Did not want to take this class, but had to of course.Ended up loving the class and Dr. Mitchell made it fun. Instructions are clear and she was very interactive and answered emails quickly if there were any questions or clarification needed. If you have to take this class, make sure you get Dr. Mitchell.

Class is easy if you do the work. The class I took online was terribly unorganized and the calendar is blank. It is sometimes unclear as to what is due and when. The teacher is very nice and gives extra credit for fairly easy stuff. If I had to do over I would have taken the class in person with the same teacher but online was just to disorganized.

Fairly easy class if you do ALL the work. Don't miss anything or your grade goes down drastically. Grades pretty hard on speeches so know your stuff. I pulled out a "c" and it was basically b/c I was a slacker.

I have no interest in public speaking whatsoever, but I did kind of like this class. Professor Wendy did not speak the entire time. We would break off to do group assignments. As long as you do the work and try, you should be able to get a good grade in the class. I am only an ok speaker, but I managed to pull off an A in this class.

NO tests; but you have to give every speech or you will likely end up with a C (like me) but overall she was very helpful and responds quickly to emails.

Well spoken, very versed in what she does. I found it impressive that she holds a doctorate as well, which did factor into my choice. Did not give busy work; stressed group interaction; created a no pressure environment during presentations; easy to contact; easy to work with. I would take another of her classes. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

This class was easy make sure you have 8 people for your audience in advance for two of the speeches you must record. Everyone i invited did not show up to the second taping and I failed the speech because of it. Keep to your time limit speak clearly and you will succeed.

Very clear with instructions. In the online course, highlights in yellow with red text or types in caps often on assignment notices, haha. Gets back to emails quickly.

Great professor, so sweet and actually cares about the course she is teaching. Public speaking is not the easiest but she makes it easy. Do the assignments and make SURE you have 8 people (which was hard for me) to watch you speech. Great class and she is AWESOME at emailing you right back. I recommend everyone to take her!

the organization of my speech class is out of this world. best course. the prof lays out the exact expectations and send out weekly email reminder of due dates. great turn around time on emails. this one is a good choice.

Took Public Speaking with Dr. Mitchell online and during a summer 8 week mod. There were three total speeches and a few assignments in between. The directions were laid out and all you had to do was follow them. Easy class (93% my grade) if you do what is assigned. I don't understand why she would get graded badly. Recommend this online class.

I took speech online without realizing that I'd need to record my speeches in front of a group of at least 8 people. That was tough because I don't know a lot of people down here. Other than that, she was extremely helpful and replied to emails in a timely fashion. I wouldn't take speech online again though, do it on campus for sure. She's pretty.

A fair amount of work in this class and she does make you work for your grade but she is also very willing to help if you need it. I got very sick towards the end of the course and missed a lot of work and she bent over backwards to help make sure I was able to make up enough to get a C in the class. Not an "easy A" class but I highly recommend!

She was more than available. The class assignments were varied and well rounded for this class. This class was online and videoweb based. so make sure you have the technology to participate. I would take her class again

I took her public speaking class, and I actually enjoyed it. It was a challenging class, but not too hard. She always responded fast and with good feedback. Sure, you need discipline to do some of the assignments, but that is just a matter of maturity. I would definitely recommend her to anyone that wants a public speaking class.

My favorite instructor yet. She is committed. Answers emails fast and gives prompt feedback. Do the work and the good grade will come. Obviously the complaints are from students who do not take pride in their school work and attendance. This class preps you for real world expectations. I am already there so I know.

An amazing teacher, very much into her work. Favorite professor so far, she is very energetic, very informative, and very involved with your work. a clear cut syllabus and follows it closely, never too much work and pretty lax environment. This is a speech class so if you don't attend then what are you taking it for???? I would recommend +++++++

I'm not going to lie, this is the most attractive professor I have ever had. Not only was she attractive, but she was really kind and helped each student do the best they could. She always gave great feedback on your speeches and made this mandatory class pretty fun. Would definitely take her again.

The online version is MUCH harder. She even states that her classes taken in person are easier. A LOT of reading. Tough papers and kind of a tough grader BUT very fair. Very long winded on instructions. Does not take late work. Gives great feedback and emails very quickly. Must prepare for assignments. Won't pass doing them the day of.

If you're taking speech online with a lot of other classes I would not recommend this teacher. Professor Mitchell is very nice and an easy grader but the assignments are very lengthy and take a long time to complete. She emails back very fast and is very understanding but the work load is a lot!!

Ms Mitchell- Matthews.. Solid choice for an online public speaking class if you don't have heavy class load. 3 speech assignments (where I had to round up 8 people to listen and video it) and 1 paper. She was super clear on grading and always replies to emails and even worked with me when I missed a due date. This class WILL cost you 20+hours/week

I had Dr. Mitchell for a summer class online. Online 8 weeks long. She is a very good teacher. I read some comments below that say avoid. I had a very different experience with this prof. I would take this class again. I learned alot too - Powerpoint prez

I was so nervous to take this class because of the reviews, but I'm here to tell you it was great. I took her class online (Speech 1608). She gives you a week to do assignments and they take maybe 1-2 hours to do. You HAVE to get together 8 people for 2 speeches. I bought pizza and had a game night for these. Love her class. Got an A!

Dr. Wendy was a great professor. She has clear grading criteria and will work with you on late assignments if needed. She also gives extra credit options.

Business and Professional Speech - The course has useful information. Have to do 2 speeches and an interview and job portfolio. Wendy is quick to respond and always upbeat. This is a good class.

Prof Wendy was my instructor for Public Speaking class. This was online. There is alot of work. But the work all has detailed explanations. Make sure you turn work in on time if you take her. She answers email questions fast.

Dr. Wendy is a great professor. I'm taking her online class now. Lots of work, first 2 speeches requires an 8 person audience, and each speech requires lots of prep. However she is quick to answer emails and always willing to help you in any way you need. Super sweet. I recommend taking the in person class if you can.

Professor was really nice and was always available to help at any time. She responded quickly to questions and graded effectively with positive feedback and solid criticism when needed. BEWARE OF THE PRESENTATIONS!! It is a speech class so don't think just because it's online, you don't have to present in front of an audience.

dr wendy is great. i attend on campus and the class is fun and interactive. my class all became friends . there are 4 speeches. the text is online and free.

Taking her online Public Speaking for 8 weeks and this is last week. Awesome teacher. Very caring. Responds & communicates through emails quickly. She's on top of it! Love that she's super caring and made the online class fun! Extra credit provided. 1st 2 speeches was in front of 8 ppl audiences, after that, it gets more fun!

I loved taking her class! She was always so sweet and responds to emails quickly. The first two speeches require 8 ppl which sucked but the last two are super easy and dont require ppl. For an 8 week class the work load was very manageable!

Wendy Mitchell has been a fantastic professor and has been very helpful with any issues and responds very quickly to your emails. The work for the current course is fantastic and opens up your mind to be able to write about interesting topics and research. I was probably in the most challenging situation after the pandemic and she was very helpful

She was very understanding and caring. She responds to emails almost right away. I took this class online this summer (8 weeks) and it wasnt too difficult. Just check the rubric for each assignment and youll be good.

Prof Mitchell worked as hard as students. Answers emails fast and on weekends. I did the class in 8 weeks. I learned a lot. There is not a book for the class. The readings are in MyCourses.

Was very understanding and accommodating. Responds to emails fast and was available for communication (like phone calls) when needed. I had been avoiding taking this class and thought I would fail it at least once, but she was wonderful and is the reason I ended with a passing grade.

This class does seem daunting but as long as you put in the effort you will do fine. Complete assignments early and ask for help when needed. This professor is great at providing feedback. She is very approachable and kind.
