sometimes late, very nice ....always drinking diet pepsi or coca cola... grades are fair, easy to get a high grade with her. Very comprehensive!!!
She is very helpfull, and intersting. She is really passionate of the topic she teaches and make you feel it deeply. If assignments are done it's a VERY NICE A!!!
I LOVE Prof. Raver. She is so sweet and understanding. She is open to all students and is never boring.
She is the sweetest most understanding prof. Very clear about the material and expectations;she always has some interesting project on the list. Very fair grader, always a rewrite possibility. Her students are like her family. It is very easy to fall in love with prof. Raver!
She is extremely nice and it is very easy to receive an A in her class, but the class is boring and I didn't learn much. She didn't really lecture and we were always let out early because she didn't plan enough material. For those who want an easy A, take her, those who want to learn, don't.
She is super boring, but an easy grader. If you want to bring ur gpa up like me i suggest u take her.
This professor possesses a clear vision of why she is teaching. She cares about her students & encourages them to do well. The class requires a lot of reading, which is not always very interesting at first glance. However, she helps the students understand and connect with the stories. A true gem!
Prof. Raver is very nice and very sweet, but sometimes to a fault and to the detriment of the class. It is very easy to get an A in her class, but that is because the bar is set very low. She has a tendency to let students run-away with the class, discussing matters that seem less than relevant. Also, she doesn't encourage enough participation.
Very boring class, a lot of readings and many papers to write.I don't like her.
she is the nicest. but would smile in your face and fail you if you don't do what you have to do.
She is a very nice professor, and a very easy grader. But in response to the negative comments to other students who thought other wise...she did have lesson plans and she did somewhat encourage class participation. She is a good teacher, and I have learned a lot from her class
At first I thought she was a horrible teacher. She was unclear with what she wanted from us in papers, but that was because she accepts almost anything. Talk to her and email her and you will find out that she is an open minded person. Her expectations are not high and if you put some effort in, you'll pass with flying colors! Very nice person.
Taking this class was a great experience. There is no mid-term or final. Books not required. Papers interesting to write and she is accepting of any topics you suggest. If you put in effort towards writing your papers; definitely do not plagarize and participate in class; visit all of the museums on the syllabus you will get an A.
topics were interesting, but unfortunately she wasn't.There is also alot of reading, about $150 worth of books which become useless since she doesn't go through all the assigned reading. All final papers r due the last day,but I recommend u do rewrites. She has her favorites and the more u suck up the more she'll favor u.good luck w/ her u'll need it
She's really nice and extremely helpful. Sometimes I felt like she was making things too easy, like I was a freshman in HS all over again. Rewrites are godly. But there is a TON of reading, especially if you take her over the summer.
Very nice professor. Just take some time to write the papers (do not plagurize) and you are guaranteed an A.
overall she was a good professor.very easy and not much work.a lot of reading though but very understandable.
Raver is one of the best professors u can possibly find in Hunter. My honest suggestion is to take her by all means neccssary
not that shes hard, the books are just hard. religion is complicated stuff. there were 4 papers due a minimum of 5 pages for 3 of them. i havent finished the semester yet so i dont know how easy she is when it comes to her grading. you need like 15 books, stop buying coffee and start saving up your money.
i completely and enthusiastically recommend Prof. Raver because you will learn a great deal and her class is interesting. She cares about your success as a student. She is clear and helpful in class.
Prof Raver is such a sweetheart. It is so easy to get a B+ the least in her class. She increased my non interest in religion. I strongly recommend her. Don't buy all the books that she requests. I only bought 3 out of 10 and still managed to get through the semester.
:-/ She does not spend enough time on the books...about 5-10 minutes on each per session and and expects us to write a 5 page papers. It's really frustrating...especially around finals. I wouldn't take her again because I'm not good at abstract thinking and she doesn't make it any easier.
I took Religion of Early Europe. She is nice and intelligent, and her lectures were interesting. No tests, only 3 papers plus a museum project. Not hard to write papers, and she is a good grader. Assigns a lot of readings, but it is actually sufficient to read only those books that will be necessary for your papers. I enjoyed her class.

She is nice and helpful. Have to read many books and write paper, no final exam
I found Prof. Raver to be an absolute delight. Yes, there is a lot of reading and not all of it is easy, but she clarifies the readings in her lectures. If you are not happy w/ a grade on a paper, she allows you to do a rewrite and gives you tips on how to achieve the better grade. No exams, just paper writing and maintaining a reading journal.
Nice person, dull teacher. Spent many lectures reading straight from the texts (including a LOT of the bible). Assigns more books than she can cover, some by fellow department members. Poor understanding of Buddhism & the practice of meditation. Avoids questions & comments in class, did not respond to emails. Not a good overview of world religion.
she's okay. too much books to read but doesn't really cover all of them. easy grader with papers but you must go to class or she'll lower your grade.
she's absolutely great! no exams, but lots of papers. she's very helpful and gives you multiple chances to do better in the class. she's very open to your ideas. tons of books but you can do with just a few. it's definitely worth taking her for religion.
I love prof. Raver. She believes in her students and encourages them to do more. I just think she's incredible, funny, respectful, and just the ideal teacher. I'm pursuing a religion minor because of her.
If you want an A, you must take this professor. VERY HELPFUL & FRIENDLY!!!!
I am pursuing a religion major because of professor Raver, not because it is easy but because I am very interested in the field. I found out so much. She is one of those professors that you must take while being at Hunter.
She's great. She makes you really interested in the subject because she's really interested in it. The lecture is never boring and this time I don't have to force myself to focus. Her papers are a little hard to write and you really have to do research. But she lets you rewrite if your paper is a failing paper. Bad things about this class is there
super nice & understanding. she makes u buy a **** load of books which arent that cheap. but whats new..your at hunter! you must come to class, she gives quizes and takes attendance the first 10minutes of class. no hw other than reading and then you take a final.
I recommend this class only for people with a future in religion. Its a total of 6 pprs (ranging from 3- 10 pgs) n no tests. You need 10 books and you have to read them to write the papers. The whole class will be way over your head if you are just looking 4 a class to fill requirement. Difficult but very nice lady & allows rewrites on on time pprs
Requirements: 6 papers (4: 2-4 pgs, 2: 5+ pgs), attendance is mandatory (she gives out unannounced in-class writing assignments), reading is mandatory (you'll have to buy A LOT of books), and no mid-term/final. Her lectures were somewhat helpful, but as the semester went on she was less helpful. If you have no problem writing, an easy A.
She is a nice person but I do not get her as a teacher. I was really excited about the class, but I didn't really learn anything :(
Prof. Raver is BRILLIANT! She got me so excited about the topics in the first class I took from her that I took another one from her. The courses I took were really about writing, so you should be prepared to write some serious papers. Class discussion was tepid, but that's because the lame students at Hunter don't want to do the reading... : )
YES, you have to do a ten page paper, and buy a bunch of useless books, and waste time visiting museums, but she's an easy grader, and if you like this religious stuff, or are in desperate need of a filler class, I recommend her.
She is awesome! Grades fairly, knows her material, and is extremely nice. Doesn't give exams, but instead gives a ton of papers. If you read the material, then this class should be a piece of cake!
prof raver is an easy grader. she requires many books which u can find at the library to save u money. i did not read all her books but attended classes which was my base to write her papers and got an A in her class. very helpful and nice. allows rewrites til the end of semester. highly recommend.
I loved Professor Raver!! I ended up taking all of her classes. She is accessible and knows her stuff!
Learn a lot. Goes over the textbooks. Lots of reading...yes it is true. Lots of papers too. Easy teacher. You will get a straight A as long as you read the book. I hoope to have her again as a teacher.
I know people people say she's nice, and class can be fun, but her knowledge is not what it should be on some topics. Religion courses are writing intensive - you will write five 5-page papers. She skips some classes for personal reasons, and, because she likes art will assign a museum day (you go and write on a piece). This is a bit of a waste.
She is so caring and passionate about her work! I definately recommend her! Do not miss class and do the readings because by the end of the semester it will overwhelm if you have not been keeping up.
Professor Raver teaches Approaches to Religion very well. Good lectures. She is a very nice lady. Five papers - no midterm - no final.
Great professor, friendly, interesting, understanding, extremely knowledgeable. Her lectures are intriguing (and entertaining), you will leave her class wiser for the experience. Reading can be heavy at times, and except to write five papers, however she does grant re-writes, so don?t stress the workload.
heavy on the readings, but does explain and go over in class. 5 papers but grants rewrites 'till the last day of class! Easy A if you do all the papers
She is amazing!!! I had absolutely no interest in the subject before her class, and now, its my world! She is heavy on readings, but always goes over them in class. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
almost every comment about her is true. KNOWS HER STUFF. her clases range from nature;experience;old europe rel--to her specialty Anceint Near East rel. lots of work, but no reason to feel overwhelemed. There is a rewrite for all work submitted on time. carry her writiting lessons wit u. If you can get an A from her, then your writng is excellent.
A very intelligent professor.Very helpful, though there is a lot of reading to do and papers to write. Good professor
She is AWESOME! She is so helpful too! She gives great lectures, so you basically write your papers based on that! She allows re-writes if you turn it in on time, so it's easy to earn an A! You learn a lot! LOVED HER!
really nice teacher but lots of reading, but if you may attention in class and take good notes you don't even need to read the book! (i didn't read most of them and got As on her papers, oh and she gives rewrites! that's a plus!)
Wendy is an amazing individual and teacher. She tells you the things in history that you want to know. Never a dry moment - if I can I will take another class with her.
Shes very nice BUT I didn't learn ANYTHING in that class. I did all the reading, I went to classes, and I still struggled with the paper. There's absolutely no structure and no effort on her part to teach. She's definitely the worst professor I have had at Hunter because I didn't get anything out of the class except a mediocre grade for hard work.
Even though I got an A for this class, I found the class extremely boring. Her teaching has no structure and she is unorganized. There were 3 papers. You need some of the textbooks to complete those--not all of them. There was a take home final-need books. The museum assignment was easy. If you're interested in ANE Religion, take it! If not, don't.
Absolutely love her shes amazing I can't say enough! You do need analytical skills in order to write the papers well but I only found one actually challenging. And she lets you do rewrites!!!! love love love her
She's great! Her lectures are interesting, even if you don't have much of an interest for the topic. There are several papers, but she accepts rewrites, so just keep up with the work, cite sources and you're good to go!
Wendy Raver is AWESOME!!! I've taken 5 classes with her! I became a Religion major because of her! She knows the material very well. She is very helpful and passionate! If you come to class and participate, you will do great! She allows re-writes! LOVE HER! Best teacher! TAKE HER!
Honestly, without a doubt the best professor in the department, and all things considering thats saying something. Professor Raver is brilliant, amusing, helpful, and fair. Her class always have me fascinated and she's more then generous with her time in order to see her students do well. I can't say enough about how much I learned from her
She is awesome, very inspirational. She opened my mind to religion and introduced theories and interpretations of how art is perceived. I highly recommend anyone to take at least one of her classes and also if your dedicated her classes should be a breeze.
This teacher is totally sweet, and she knows her material. The workload can get VERY overwhemling, but it always turns out okay in the end. The only real problem I have is that she tends to not reakky explain much, and just assumes that everyone knows everything there is to know about religion. And no real notes to copy, just some names and stuff
Egh - won't be taking another class with her. All in all a so-so class/teacher.
By far, the best professor in the REL dept., if not all of Hunter. Super helpful and nice and has really interesting material to offer.
Professor Raver is extremely nice. She is helpful and works with you so that you can get a high grade. However, this class can get boring. The lectures are a pain. There's 6 papers, she allows re-writes to the last day and she is a somewhat easy grader. I would recommend this class, just know you will be bored at times.
Professor Raver is probably the most helpful professor I have ever taken a class with. Extremely friendly, very enthusiastic about her field, and overall a great professor. Again, the most helpful professor, and such a nice person.
took her experience of religion course. She is a great person, not very funny, great popcorn. The Movie Glory was the best thing all semester. The class was boring due to little interaction with other students in the class. Professor needs to allow student more interaction on the subject matters.
I just had her this semester and I think she is very nice. She seems very helpful and she goes over all the assignments that are due in order to help you. The readings and papers can be hard at times, but she allows rewrites and also she seems to just be very down to earth. I will take her for an additional class because I think she is mad cooool..
If I can give a grade, I would give Prof Raver an A+! The readings we do in class are very dry, as they are ancient text, but she makes the class fun. I was in a writing intensive class, and our writing assignments are based on the reading, so make sure you read! She is helpful, generous, and understands that everyone has emergencies.
She's the best religion professor ever! This class is an intensive writing class and you will need to write many papers but she gives us rewrites! Go on many trips and she brings snacks to class for her students, awesome! :)
I recommend taking one of Wendy's classes, especially for a gpa boost. Doing the readings makes the class time pass quicker, and directly informs your essays (all assignments are discussed in depth prior to due date). Wendy is really great, she loves her field and if you have any issues she is able to help without a problem.
Awesome prof, she helps u with the readings, that are hard but she clarifies perfectly, her essays are on point she will duct you clearly. take her class it's interesting, you will def question religion and what it is
This is a subject that's supposed to make you think. This woman teaches like she's teaching a kindergarten class and not a college course. Waste of time. So boring. She actually decreased my interest on a favorite subject.
i dreaded this class.
Teaches a college course as if she's teaching elementary school. Very vague with assignments/readings/quizzes. I was very interested in the class when I enrolled, but it became the most tedious, burdensome class of my semester. Assigned a poorly timed load of work during final week. She is very sweet and accommodating, but won't take another w/ her
Professor Raver is one of the best teachers I've had at Hunter. She loves the subject and loves what she does. I look forward to taking more of her classes. You must go to class and participate though to get your mind thinking along the lines of the material. The reading is heavy but interesting. If you show up and try you will do well. She's great
She treats the class as if it were kindergarten. She makes you buy 10 books, but only covers 1 book. Confusing with her ideas & theories and gives outline for papers a week before its due. Never replies to emails and indirectly calls you dumb. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.
OMG are you kidding? She is a great professor who has to deal with a lot of very stupid students. She helps out a lot and there is a lot of writing. You can get good grades but you have to work. Very eye opening material but not for the closed minded religious fundamentalists or ignorant
Careful: professors envy each other like students. Raver's class is an academic necessity for applying religion to research in hist., soc., psych., pol., art, & edu. Taking Raver's class, I am armed with scholarship that makes research on Jefferson's history look juvenile. Many thanks to the fates.
Prof Raver is great!!! Religion classes are a lot of work and require reading original texts, but Prof Raver makes them understandable. She is very supportive and takes a true interest in her students' learning. Rel 111 is a class in which you will learn about yourself, unexpectedly. I am actually looking forward to taking another class with her!
dreaded her class however i learned a lot. she's okay, not bad not great. her class was like taking 2 classes, a lot of work. allows you to rewrite. ended up with an A. do the readings she gives surprise quizzes
She was AWESOME
I am currently taking Nature of Religion with Professor Raver and she is an absolute delight. She encourages us to read and actually cares about how we interpret the text. The books she has selected are wonderful. I am even improving with my writing skills on writing analytic papers. I will post about my overall experience at the end of this sem.
I am currently taking this class and I usually dread coming to it. But all you really need to do is read and come prepared to discuss. A lot of her books can be found for free online. It is essential to have the books for the essays. She is very flexible with allowing you to rewrite essays and work for the A grade you deserve.
She is very understanding and enthusiastic about what she teaches. The comments on the papers she gives back can be a little messy but seeing her after class can fix that right up. Do not be discouraged by the amount of work she gives you just find a way to back up your interpretations and you should be fine. She loves movies and finds signs in all
Religion is one of my favorite subjects and this professor ruined the experience for me this semester . We wrote 8 papers based on the ideas of two authors and she didn't cover the entire syllabus and only focused on the abrahamic religions in depth and not others that are widely practiced in the world .
I suspect that Raver's illusive apathy and indifference stem not from the instructor's character, but from the laziness and ignorance that the students, some of whom take the course only for the GER, bring into the class. Raver is an excellent lecturer and a friendly person, but she won't show this unless her students show that they deserve it.
It's a religion class so expect a lot of reading and a lot of writing. She's very nice and lectures are never boring. She isn't that great answering emails but very helpful and understanding if you have to discuss something with her in person.
Prof. Wendy Raver is amazing, I loved this class seeing as it was my first religion class ever I loved it so much! it was not easy but definitely very rewarding, amazing teacher I will be coming back for more!!!
What an amazing person inside and out! This woman saved my life opening me up to so many different cultures! The class is great everyone should take it once. It is a life changer
best teacher ever!!! she was very tough but it made me work for the grade I have got
Prof Raver was horrible. She makes you buy 10 books, and assigns maybe a chapter from each. Her papers are incredibly long, and she only gives the official assignment a week before it's due. Don't expect to be fairly graded if you disagree with her theories or those that she assign.
If you're interested in looking at religion thru a scientific prism (anthropology), then you may like her style. I felt like we were studying religion "from the outside" as opposed to being openly immerse into it and trying to grasp it. Barely any philosophical discussion on a Nature of Religion class.
Amazong
She's a really sweet lady and I can tell she loves what she does. She assigns a lot of readings so you have to make sure you get every single book so you don't fall behind in class. The only issue I really have with this class is that the conversation is usually between her and students that are knowledgeable about the topic.
Took her for Rel 111 and 256. If you know how to write papers, don't listen to the posts that say her classes are difficult. Grade is based on 6-7 papers ranging from 3 to 5 pgs each. Show up to class and participate every now and then and you will do fine. Compared to other classes with 20 pg final papers and 3-4 exams, this is not bad at all.
Professor Raver was the best professor I have every had she really took time to help me out when I was struggling as a freshman. Her classes are difficult if you don't know what you are talking about, anyone with back round knowledge should do fine. Her classes are high levels so be prepared to work a lot!
Professor Raver is so down to earth. She can really make religions for 3000+ years ago seem so real and funny and relevant in this day and age. The class was pretty reading intensive but you can find a lot of the books online, plus, Prof Raver gives lots of handouts that'll help you with your papers.
Excellent teacher that provides foundation for understanding class topics. Makes large effort to create insight for students while also providing clear goals and flexible deadlines.
She's super sweet and makes all of the readings so much clearer. There are a few papers to write, but if you get confused you can definitely go to her during office hours. One of the best professors I've had. She made the subject so interesting to learn about. Her lectures were great.
She does rewrites for all her papers but make sure to read the texts on BB bcuz she has a quiz on them every. Her notes are also all over the place. She will write a word on the board and will explain it verbally but not write it down. Make sure to listen n write what she says down
Down-to-earth professor. Allows student's freedom to grasp concepts of divinity & the human spirit. Lecture topics are presented in written & visual forms, along w/ lectures explaining abstract devine concepts. Readings are imperative for assigned writings & quizzes. Generous w/ fairness, understanding and feedback for students to succeed in class.
Most importantly, I learned a lot form this class mainly through the FIVE 3-5page papers and 4 written assignments. There is lots of reading of some difficult primary texts, but she goes over it in class, so that helps. The info is extremely interesting and you will gather tons of knowledge in this class but you will have to work hard for it.
Get ready to read and write tons of papers. Class was interesting and the readings weren't painful but kinda boring. Her notes were chicken-stratch on the board, so that was extremely aggravating. She was an okay prof but I REALLY did not appreciate her offensive opinions throughout class (no relativity to the course itself). Do all the papers well
The only reason I took this class is b/c it covers two gers at the same time. You will feel the course load, especially if you have a full semester. Lots of reading & 5 papers: 3 3-4 pg 2 6-8 pg. Rewrites are allowed so A are easy to come by if you follow her rubric and argue concisely. I did learn about the ANE so theres that. 2 quiz, 4 short ans
I took her Jesus the Jew class and I suggest that if you are Christian and you have a strong connection to your faith, dont take this class. This class teaches about Jesus from the Jewish perspective and lowkey this is a class to basically disprove all of Christianity. This professor is rude and sarcastic in how she speaks of Christianity.
Great professor. Very willing to work with students. Mostly flexible style of class. A lot of free form discussion.
Amazing teacher, I was almost failing the corse and all I did was go to her office hours and talk to her and she really helped me out. Takes the time to be there if you need the help, If you don't reach out to her you will fail.
I had her for a writing intensive astrology/religion class and it was great. You must read the books to write the 6 assigned essays and go to lecture to do well on 2 quizzes. She is somewhat of a tough grader, but if you follow the instructions on the essay rubrics, you will be fine. Revisions are accepted.
She is a great professor who knows her material and keeps the class engaged in discussions. There is a lot of reading, more than a typical class, but all of that information really helps you out to write better and longer essays. She also requires museum visit projects and sporadic writing assignments to make sure you do the readings. And 2 quizzes
This is an intensive writing class: 5-formal papers + 2 in-class quizzes. Requires about 4-5 textbooks which are needed as sources for papers. Allows rewrites + 1 museum paper. Caring & understands pressure of being a college student! Available for office hours & truly a wonderful soul. Must enter w, open-mind + be ready to writing several papers!
A total of 7-8 papers for the class plus 2 quizzes in class. She allows rewrites and late submission. As long as you come to class with an open mind about Religion, do the readings, and focus there is no way you are missing this A. She has amazing lectures too and pretty cool as a teacher.
AMAZING Professor. so thoughtful and kind, and soooo straightforward with the grading and expectations. 7 papers, youre allowed to rewrite the first 5 if youre unhappy with your grade, gives feedback. so informative and makes you want to pay attention!
One thing Ill say is that she is a harsh grader. A few typos and you get a C. She doesnt really write coherent notes and shes pretty lecture heavy. Not really a bad teacher, just a harsh grader. Otherwise, shes okay as a regular person
Raver is one of those prof who don't consider the fact students have multiple classes & lives outside school. we had 6 papers while my other writing intensive course only had 3. Unless you have a genuine passion/interest for topic avoid taking her class. Her assignments felt like "busy work." She teaches many classes and always seemed flustered
HARSH grader, her lectures don't teach us anything, she's never ever ever clear about her expectations for our assignments which makes it so hard to get a decent grade, and when we ask her to clarify she repeats the same thing that doesn't help make it any clearer. This is the first time I've ever felt truly stupid in a class, and I'm an A student.
Its a writing-intensive course so theres about 4 papers 5+ pages each but she won't mind if it's 4+. She's a nice person and offers rewrites on all papers no matter the grade as long as it is handed in on time. She is strict on punctuation so just double check your papers and you'll do great.
Professor Raver is an amazing professor who really introduces students to so many idea's across religion. She is interested in helping students approach religion with so many different angles and she allows for students to theorize new ideas and grow. Her grading is straightforward and is very fair, just follow her rules. One of the best at Hunter!
Prof. Raver is the most profound professor I have ever had the privilege of having. She is brilliant, luminous, articulate, astute, and clearly conveys course materials. One time we spoke for two hours in office hours chatting about the bigger questions life offers. I recommend her HIGHLY. Her other class, Myth & Ritual, is incredible..
Had absolutely no sympathy for students during a pandemic. She also doesn't let you use free PDFs of books and instead requires that you buy them so you can "properly cite." Do not take her classes unless you want to spend all your time writing weekly responses and papers.
Gives a lot of essays, but is very clear about what she expects, and accepts rewrites for all assignments. Very enthusiastic, and as long as you put in some effort its not hard to get great grades
She is so hard on her student eventhougth you do all your assigments ontime she still not care. She is so mean with her students during a pandemic time
Professor Raver is the definition of privilege. She once spent an entire hour trash talking her students about not writing their papers up to her standard without taking into account that education is a luxury and not every student is provided with the same resources. On top of that, her teaching style is appalling, shes all over the place. AVOID!
There are quite a few papers, but she explains the readings and materials very well, which makes paper writing easy. Most of the material is interesting, but the lectures do get a bit boring and can be disorganized. Take notes bc her quizzes are focused on small details! As long as you do the readings and pay attention, you'll be fine!
This class is so heavy reading. Four textbooks were required for this class! The lectures were all over the place and confusing/ super fast to follow. There were no real notes for this class to look back on, or the lecture was jumping from one topic to the next, that taking notes was hard. There is NO clear grading rubric!!! AVOIDD IF POSSIBLE!!!
Lots of writing, way more writing than any of my other classes; and I'm taking a major in creative writing. Inconsiderate of our time.
Copious amount of writing, even compared to other writing intensive. On top of multiple long essays, weekly writing is required every week even when a essay is due. Doesnt allow Ebooks, and requires mutiple books. Confusing lectures with no notes for later studies. She's a nice person just not a professor that I resonated with teaching style wise.
The class is writing-intensive, 5 or 6 papers throughout the semester (all of the papers are only 3-5 pages though), and very brief (250words) weekly reading responses. However, Professor Waver allows all papers and assignments that were submitted on time to have a rewrite! Lectures could be confusing but she is great at answering questions.
shes okay when it comes to her lectures but how she grades her papers?! a whole different story. If you are not extremely passionate about this class, it will be difficult to get good grades on the paper. Honestly this class offered me nothing but anxiety and depression. Be prepared for her to be disappointed in everything that you write.
Get ready to spend countless hours on papers and assignments for this class just to get mediocre grades and no helpful feedback in order to improve
The course was super hard but Raver really wants you to learn the messages of the class rather than just pass the class if I never went to office hours I wouldn't have passed. She is very understanding and gives extensions when needed if you show you actually care
She gave me an F on one of my papers JUST because I missed a page number, I think that says enough about the kind of professor she is... Gives little to no feedback, horrible class. Stay away from her!!!!!
REL 111- Prof Raver IS knowledgeable, and passionate about the work. She is also the hardest grader Ive ever had. BE AWARE: you must actively participate, take notes on anything she finds interesting within hundreds of pages of text, and not have a single flaw in your papers to receive a good grade. Stressful, but interesting material.
Stay away from her and this class. Do not torture yourself.
Allow me to begin saying it was an opportunity to have this Professor. Amazing amazing. The syllabus has all the work that will need to be read. Just read it ahead of time, its manageable if you are an avid reader. Work load is good. Weekly writings and papers have a clear criteria. She saved me. She honestly did. Loved her class and cat
HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS, NO SYMPATHY FOR STUDENTS, DOES NOT KNOW WHAT SHE TALKS ABOUT, MAKES YOU BUY TON OF BOOKS, SHE IS THE WORST PROF I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE, MY CAREER IS RUINED BECAUSE OF HER
Interesting class, but lots of papers, even for a writing intensive class. Most papers were 5-8 pages long. You really have to read and understand the material in order to do great on the papers, can't b.s it. Overall a fun class, but can get overwhelming.
She is a very tough grader, is very unclear at times about her requirements, lacks empathy for students, feedback isn't helpful, and thinks our lives are based solely on her class. Had to purchase many textbooks for her class but only read 1-2 pages from each. Would not recommend her class due to the work overload + lack of empathy for students.
Worst professor ever. She's a very tough grader and doesn't give good feedback on work. Her requirements and guidelines aren't clear. Lacks understanding, has no sympathy for students, barely replies to emails, says one thing and then changes her word. Believes the world revolves around her class only. Overall would not recommend her class.
The material was very interesting. Lots of writing but no midterm or final, all papers instead. Go to the office hours because she'll help you if you try. Don't plagiarize or she will go OFF on the whole class over and over. Readings can be tough but she'll go through them. Paper rewrites helped me and they are allowed for most papers.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASSSSSSSS!!!! STAY AWAY FROM HER. If you see her coming STAY 10 FT WAYYYY FROMMMM HERE FOR YOUR SAFETY. WORST PROFESSNOR I SEE IN MY LIFE. NO EMPATHY FOR HER STUDENT. TOOOOOO MUCH HOMEWORK, TOOOOO MANY PAPER TO WRITE. IF THERE IS EVEN ONE THING WRONG WITH YOUR PAPER YOU HAVE TO REWRITE OR YOU GET FAILING GRADE.
She doesn't actually teach, she shows a lot of PowerPoints that don't get posted, pics and convos about them but it's never clear what notes exactly you should be taking down so you never know what she expects you to know, so good luck on her tests lol just gotta read her mind I guess, more guidance and being a teacher would help
Other than a lot of papers, a very interesting class. No exams but two quizzes, lots of papers that you can rewrite, museum paper. She will help you in office hours, too. This is my second class with her and I will take again
Absolutely terrible professor. Shows little care for her students, too many assignments, and is condescending and unhinged. Made multiple remarks about the students "who deserved to be there." Accused SEVERAL students of plagiarism. Forced students to buy SIX PHYSICAL BOOKS for the class, kicked out those who forgot books. DO NOT TAKE EVER!
This professor does not care for her students at all. How does this class have more papers than any English class I have ever taken. Too much work and less learning about what the subject is about with no help at all.
I feel she cared little for her students and just drowned us in work to make it seem like the subject was important. We learned less about the actual subjects and people and did more papers than an English class
Fantastic teacher. Very caring, very attentive, and fair in her grading. Religion was not a subject I originally had much interest in, but Ms. Raver created a compelling class environment which I found myself motivated to engage with.
Genuinely one of the best professors I've ever had. Speaks about the subject with such reverence and respect. You will be challenged to think deeply about the subject so if you want an easy A class, this isn't it. But if you're sincerely interested in the subject, Raver will illuminate the ancient world for you in such a profound way. Thank you!
Lots of work and reading just for an elective class I'm trying to get by, considering I have a difficult major. Other than that, I relatively enjoyed this class and respect this professor's passion for the study of religion.
She is the most understanding Professor ever, I gained respect towards her when it came to her writing assignments, she would mostly explain what she wanted in her writing. But also when it comes to required pages, she doesn't want you to reach the page limits, she wants you to understand what the prompt wants you to write.
Professor Raver is very demanding - expect tons of reading, strict grading, and little leniency. However, the material is engaging. Using unstuck study alongside other study tools can be a big help.
Professor Raver is an amazing lady and an amazing professor. She made me grow such an interest and passion for learning about religion. Many people complain about the amount of papers but it is a writing intensive class and if you are engaged with the material and content of the class (which is very interesting) you'll do great in her class.
Professor Raver was very demanding for workload but overall you will learn a lot throughout the semester. While many people including me struggle to meet deadlines due to the workload, but workload decreases as the semester progresses. She seems to make it heavy early on, and easy second half of semester.
she's an ok professor, nice but way too much work even for a writing intensive class. one thing she said was odd to me like when she mentioned how during ramadan some of the students would purposely break their fast in hiding at hunter because they didn't want to get caught by a family member or someone they knew that they weren't fasting.
Way too many papers even for a writing intensive class. Rarely responds to emails
Waste of time taking her class; religion and human rights class except with no learning. Very vague prompts for papers but they are very easy if you apply yourself. Keep in mind she talks about certain contemporary topics with a bias a lot, therefore she assigns readings or does lectures on what aligns with her beliefs (anti-islam)...
