teaches like we're still in junior high. really scattered. but super entertaining.
Seems like a nice person, but she is not very organized. Overall not a very good teacher, the class would have been better with a different teacher.
Terrible teacher for this class; studying everything can still mean a D on her tests and an F on her research paper. No extra credit whatsoever. Impossible to even get a D- if you don't study as if your life depended on it. Don't bother attending class, 0% chance she gives you her "slight boost" for attending every single day and participating.
She goes out of her way to make sure we understand and not just memorize tons of details but get the whole picture. Mult. choice + short essay exams. Many resources. She's excited about subject. 35% of course consists of on-line work and quizzes, all busywork (& open-note so pointless for my learning) Would rather read chapter & have in-class quiz.
I love Wendy!!! she's a tough grader, but she really wants to make sure you know it, and she does a really good job of making herself available. shes funny too! I say challenge your brain, take the class, and learn a ton.
Wendy is an amazing teacher!! If people put poor quality they were lazy through the class. She sets aside study groups on her weekends and is always available to help! Tough teacher but only teaches stuff you need to know and explains so well!
Wendy is an excellent teacher. You will learn a lot if you are willing to put out the effort. She is fun too and really cares about her students and their success (as long as they are willing to put in the work too!)
Made learning Biology fun! She loves the subject, is enthusiastic and puts to good use the technology available in MyCR, ie: grades, quizes, assignments, audio recordings of lectures and visuals. I wish she was teaching Physio this semester!!!
She's a great teacher! Takes time to have study groups on the weekends; she WANTS us to have every opportunity to learn& pass. She uses all forms of teaching( visual, Auditory,hands-on) to help us learn. She truly cares! Wish she taught Anatomy! Highly Recommend!
Material is a need to know! Provides energy, and enthusiasm throughout class. Will stay and help you learn until you know it! Amazing teacher, I think shes a total babe. You won't regret taking her class, that is unless you don't study :)
She's the BEST TEACHER I've ever had. She loves the subject and really wants everyone to understand it. The negative comments I read below were from last year and it seems like she improved a ton. She video records each class and posts them to Tegrity thru myCR. She is really out there to have everyone understand and pass the class.
Useless lectures, never covers everything you need to know in class. No need to go to class, she wastes your time talking about whatever pops into her ADD brain, and her tests look like they were thrown together a few days prior (because they were). On the plus side, amazing volume of resources, and an excited teacher.
Wendy is an amazing dynamic teacher. She takes an otherwise boring subject and makes it exciting. Test are really hard but she does everything, other than give you the answers, to help you make it! If you are failing, chances are you need to look at your own study habits. I wish all teachers were like Wendy!! You would take away so much more!
One of the best professors ever. Extremely enthusiastic. Answers questions. Uses various different media to help get her point across. Does interesting experiments. Tests on what she teaches. Is friendly, funny, and will come on the weekends to hold study groups! She held a study group for us when we weren't even in her class! TAKE RIGGS! The BEST!
wendy is a fun professor, but a little scatterbrained. She lets her students sidetrack her a little to easily. Lab work is generally fun and she offers good support.
I just dropped Wendy's anatomy class because it was a trainwreck. I have never had her before and enjoyed her as a person but will never take her again. She gives hard exams, and challenging quizes daily which make up 15 percent of your grade.. She is unprepared. I dont think she has taught it before.
She is amazing and I will follow her with every class she teaches
I have known Riggs sine I was in high school, she has always been a fun, enthusiastic teacher who loves what she does. True she maybe a little scatter brained but she is more than helpful if a student doesn't understand the material. She's awesome, I have had her as my general biology teacher and now she's my teacher in physiology as well.
She is awsome! Highly recommended!
Professor Jones is a great teacher. She took time to understand my calcaneal concerns and provide unique insights. I hope to take another class from her.
OMG! LOVED this instructor! She went out of her way to make sure we understood the material. Made a number of different virtual games to assist our learning. Was totally fired up and knowledgeable about the subject. Others have said she was 'scatterbrained'...NOT IN THE LEAST! She even recorded study groups in case you couldn't be there. AWESOME!
My absolute favorite teacher hands down! She is so full of light and loves what she is teaching about! She is a true inspiration and causes you to fall in love with what you are learning! She is very clear and helpful and goes above & beyond for her students! STUDY for her tests though, she's serious about her students learning the material!
You will watch lectures outside of school. LOTS of time dedication, but she will be putting in at least the amount you are (probably a lot more). Content heavy, quizzes every lab, exams are tough but never have any real surprise questions. She is awesome, open-minded and creates a dynamic learning environment. She is a great teacher.
Riggs lectures are Flipped, basically you watch the lecture on your own time and discuss the content the next day. What ever you put into the class is what you'll get out of it. pretty straight forward but difficult. lots of material and new content. I highly recommend her, be prepare to dedicate a good amount of time. enjoy..
This class is pure insanity. You must study every day or you wont make it. This doesn't include the time that it takes to "flip" the class, which is watching the lectures online and taking a ton of mandatory notes. You absolutely must be ready to memorize everything, no multiple choice! Her expectations are almost ridiculous. No other life allowed
Wendy is very smart and a very talented teacher. I love her classes--HOWEVER, if you require clean and concise delivery of material when learning, you will likely have a difficult time focusing, as she is often side-tracked. You will need to remain organized with content even when she isn't, which frustrates a lot of peopleā¦but, still incredible.
An intense course, as it should be. Study, focus, & participate in the lectures. In my opinion, you get the grade you deserve, based on the work that YOU do. I think Wendy's overall goal is that we come away confident that we can discuss the content of the class with confidence and accuracy. There should be more instructors like Wendy in the world.
The flipped lecture was scary at first but it ended up being the best thing to happen to me. I only received a B but it's a difficult course! She allows you to see past exams, has her lectures on YouTube, and MyCR is FILLED with excellent learning resources from past semesters. You will learn more in this class than any other class! Wendy's AMAZING
Wendy has an amazing personality and is extremely helpful. Although she offers no extra credit she gives tons of opportunity for you to be super duper awesome. Her teaching methods keep us engaged and inspired
Everybody loves Wendy. I had her for BIO 101 and Human Anatomy. It's very special when a professor invests as much in her students as Wendy does, and her passion for what she teaches is very inspiring. Try and get into her classes.
Wendy is AWESOME. She's a little spastic and sometimes a little unclear. However, what she lacks in communication (doesn't happen often) she makes up for being available to clear things up. She will keep you entertained and her enthusiasm is off the charts and she keeps you involved. Just make sure you go to class your you'll be a little lost.
If you don't need to maintain your GPA you'll be fine.... If so take someone else. No extra credit. Doesn't work with you. Just quizzes and test every day and no assignments that help you prepair for such tests and quizzes.
Very fun wonderful personality..... However; doesn't stay on track but expects you to know anyway. I've also caught a few minor mistakes in her lectures. Mistakes found in the text books in her class, but don't tell Wendy! She will get angry at you and consider it a personal attack.
If you have to take science for nursing. Wendy is great
I knew going in that anatomy was going to be challenging, but Wendy made it SO much easier! I was hesitant about the flip setup (you watch the lecture online before class and then ask questions during class) but it ended up making the information stick in my brain way more than if she just lectured the material. She is so enthusiastic and caring!
She is awesome!
So much enthusiasm for the subject matter. Wendy has a positive energy and she bounces off the walls. She made learning really dense detail-oriented work a fun experience through her quirkiness and oddball humor. I learned a lot. I'd agree with those that say she is a bit unorganized, but she always has student's best interest in mind.
Bio 7 with Wendy will leave you wanting to cry at times, but you WILL learn you some physiology. She's not an easy grader in the least and you cannot procrastinate and meet your own expectations. Be very careful considering taking it with a full workload, it could have a detrimental effect on your GPA. She is wonderful and has energy to spare.
In my experience with Wendy, the passion for the content that you express is equal to the passion she reciprocates. I suggest diving in with the anticipation of an amazing learning experience. I would bet you come out feeling fulfilled and jubilant about the human body. That's what we're all hoping for as a pre-nursing students, right?
I was very excited when I entered Wendy's classroom. She's enthusiastic, light hearted and fun. As the semester wore on, I became increasingly more confused about what she expected us to learn. I don't like the "flipped" classroom style. I find it disjointed learning for me and made it much more difficult. I lived in the textbook, not emphasized.
Wow is all I can say. Avoid her.
Her class it tough, but totally worth it! She expects a lot from you and puts a lot into it! Just stay on top of you're homework!
Wendy does expect a lot from her students, but you will find she puts in 10x the amount of effort as her students. She wants you to succeed. My only complaint, I did find her exams to be confusing. At times it was hard to grasp what she was trying to get at. But if confused during an exam/quiz just ask her. I will say Wendy makes this class fun.
STAY AWAY! She is so mean and tough. She gives you a bunch of stuff to study for her quizzes/exams and doesn't give hardly any time to study it. When you go to her for help or tips tells you to get out of her class and come back later to be a "rock star". Her 1 exam brakes down to 3 diff. exams all in one day. She is proud of her hard exams.
Wendy is fun and amazing. If you are going on to nursing school this is the class to take. She tries to make you work for it. She provides weekend study times with open lab take advantage! her
+: Enthusiastic. friendly, kind, helpful, contagious energy. -: Easily distracted by tangents. Uses analogies that are imaginary, unclear and very confusing, they become just as abstract as the concept they're trying to teach. Take only if you have plenty of time to learn the material alone outside of lectures, they didn't help me much.
Great teacher, makes it fun, does expect you to study, tests are fair.
WONDERFUL!!!!
Attendance is not mandatory, however points are given just for showing up. Lectures are to be watched at home on YouTube before you show up to class, but this method is VERY effective. There are no surprises in this class. If she wants you to know it, she will tell you that you need to know it. Take her class. She will help you succeed.
She wants to help students, and explains the class materials in ways that can be understood. If you want to really learn the material, she will help. I take notes while watching her videos, and her enthusiasm and desire keeps it interesting.
Had to do a ridiculous term paper that took away needed time to study for exams. She has a bit of an ego and is not very approachable if you are not understanding a concept.I think she doesn't get all the concepts. She acts as if she cares about her students, but not so Be prepared to not have a life other than the class. Highly don't recommend.
Wendy is one of those professors that you either love her or hate her. For me, she has sparked a fire under my butt to get my stuff together. She has made it very easy for me to know what I need to do to get where I want to go, and I appreciate her immensely for it. Yes, there is a huge project in this class, but it is totally worth it.
Once again, you'll either like her or you wont, but she tells you exactly what she expects and what she will test on. There are no surprises in this course.
The best teacher I've ever had. She puts in so much effort to deliver an engaging, challenging, but effective class. She's tough, but fair. If you get through the class, you'll be better off for it. I feel like I learned how to college in this course. A+ Wendy!
Riggs is so much fun and it's clear from her video lectures and class time that she is passionate about the subjects that she teaches. Yes she is a tough grader but fair. The project component of her class can be difficult at times but I found it very rewarding. She cares that her students actually learn the material and not just pass a test.
Great lecturer, Easy to understand , Helpful for self learning on internet.
avoid if you have responsibilities other than this class!
Riggs is very passionate about science and education. She provides a high quality education and has high expectations for her students. She's also funny and entertaining. I think the most important qualities a student needs to be successful in her class are self-motivation and an interest for science.
Wendy Riggs is AWFUL. She expects TOO much from students. DANGER STAY AWAY!! Her lectures are full of "yo dawwgs" and "I love you guys" "how cool is this" blah blah blah! If you condense her lectures to actual learning material the lectures could be 5 minutes not 2 hours!! Exams are 50% of final grade...
She is a great professor Very clear lecturer I hope all like her
Wendy is hands down the funniest, most engaging, caring teacher I've had! Watch her youtube videos for a taste of her awesomeness. You'll have to think critically in her class, you can't just memorize and regurgitate info. Some people hate this. If you want to really learn, take her class. If you want an easy A/to do the bare minimum don't.
One of the best teachers Ive ever had! Because this is a woman with real integrity, you will have to work for your grade, but Wendy will support you all along the way. Her lectures are so well done and her classes are interactive and enriching. I highly recommend her classes to all that genuinely want to approach learning with a growth mindset.
I would really only take a class with her again because of the flipped class, and for the fact that she keeps you entertained. There is a lot of information taught, and she doesnt give you much of a break when it comes to grading. The integration project was frustrating, but had the potential to be helpful. Shes funny, but a difficult grader.
Wendy Riggs is the best teacher I have ever had in my entire life. I learned and retained so much! She is fun, caring, knows her stuff, and makes the class so much fun! For the people knocking her, they probably want an easy A. Her class is no easy A, but if you are a learner who wants a professor with a fun personality she is the teacher for you.
The most time I have ever had to invest in an online class.
Her lectures are only online and she takes forever to explain the material. Her exams are worth 50% of your final grade, she is a VERY hard grader. She doesnt give very good feedback, when you ask her a question she doesnt give an answer. She writes her exams probably less than 24 hours before the exam. Be prepared for tricky questions on exams!
Be aware that when she says it will be a hard class, it WILL. Pros: Passionate about material, super knowledgeable, very good communicator, if you are going on to study biological sciences - this is probably the best teacher to start with, great study guides Feedback: Less trick questions on exams, suggest more callouts to specific pages in text
(Class online.) I dont see how she thinks she is teaching anything...? Her style is video lectures then discussion boards, quizzes and exams. I spent the majority of my time in this class trying to find out what shes talking about by looking up the information on my own. Teaching myself! Not recommended. CR has better professer options.
This online class is a lot if you teaching yourself. Her testing is very heavy, hard, and frequent. Testing is 50% of your grade and I feel she words the test to try and confuse you. Feels like you are set up to fail. :( Also very slow back with grades, no time to see you are failing and drop.
Wendy is one of the best professors I have ever had. Her teaching style really enforces what you need to know, over and over. She super fun and genuinely cares about all of her students, and whether or not you are understanding the content. I cannot truly express how much I recommend Wendy as a teacher for ANY of her classes!
This professor is amazing and I wish more professors were like her. Biology online in the summer is brutal, you will get burned out, but the professor offers entertaining lectures and injects humor where she can. Would take another course with her if needed.
Riggs is one of the most inspirational professors I have ever had. She cares so much about her students and sacrifices a lot of her time to give good feedback, prepare lectures and labs and support her students. She works really hard and expects her students to as well. If you really want to LEARN a subject, take a class with Wendy. <3
Human Physiology is super challenging, but Wendy makes it really and interesting fun to learn! I feel lucky to have had the opportunity to take this class with her. She gives AMAZING feedback and it is definitely worth taking her comments into account when completing the Integration Project. Wendy is an inspiration and CR is SO lucky to have her!
Wendy is hands DOWN the best professor I have ever had. Anatomy is a difficult course, but she made it interactive and fun. She is full of pep and passion for science and it definitely shows. She "flips" her content (i.e. watch lecture vid at home) which was surprisingly helpful because class was essentially one big study session. 10/10 recommend!!
Here's the thing, no matter what you do, learning anatomy is like trying to drink water out of a fire hose. Wendy actively wants you to pass, but to work for it because going into the medical field requires the best students. She gives open labs quite often and is a wonderful source of knowledge. Some of the best people ive ever met in this class:)
I have had 3 of her classes! Im not exaggerating when I say I owe so much of my confidence, work ethic and drive to Wendy. She is a total rockstar that never boasts of her own accomplishments. Take her class. She will teach you science but also how to study, be a good student, and a good person. I'm in my dream nursing program now thanks to her!
I don't think an online physio class could be much better. Physio is a difficult subject but Wendy provides excellent lecture videos and class activities that make the information digestible. If you have any trouble at all she will help you until you understand the material. She is very caring and has a natural talent for teaching.
Riggs is one of the best professors I've had. Her passion for Anatomy/Physio is infectious and every single one of her lectures was fascinating & enjoyed by everyone in my house. She's has high expectations, but is very approachable & wants you to succeed. Amazing online class -- extremely well organized -- in person must be even better!
Riggs puts soo much effort into her students and lectures. Her style of teaching works great for me (online lectures). I slowly make my way through them, pausing, taking notes and making sure I understand the content constantly. By the time I am done I usually have a pretty good and deep understanding, and then do well on the exams. I love Wendy!!
Wendy is my hero. She is also the best teacher I have ever had. She goes far above and beyond for her students and I love her.
Wendy Riggs is by far one of the best professors at College of the Redwoods, although I did not have the luxury of having her in-person course she was just as great online by being there any time you needed her and always answering your questions within a day. Tests were hard of course however her lectures are amazing and easily comprehended.
Wendy Riggs is amazing, her course is difficult, lecture-heavy, and test-heavy. However, she cares about anyone who cares about their grade. Don't be afraid to reach out for help she will easily reply within the day. I would highly recommend her for any bio course.
Sure, she's a teacher, experienced. feedback on papers that say awkward up to 10 times. Unwilling to give criticism, she became agitated. I stopped asking. Upbeat/enthusiastic at first. the semester continued she sort of degraded, increasingly agitated. I stopped asking for help b/c she was temperamental. Fantastic educational lecture videos.
Riggs is amazing! Some lectures are long but she keeps it interesting!
Love you prof
