If you are looking to just get by in chemistry, Professor Schatzberg is the way to go. if you actually want to learn what is tested on the ACS, PCAT, or MCAT, Don't take her. she confuses everyone during the lecture, but if you read the chapter its crystal clear. tests aren't that difficult, lots of extra credit. bogus grader. she's also very weird
She knows the material but sometimes gets lost in the descriptions. If you study a bit by yourself and do the extra credit this class is easy.
She is very smart, but not very willing to help students. If you stop by her office she will not directly answer questions. Lectures/power point slides go over only material in textbook. She does not give many examples in class, so quizzes/tests are difficult because there are all math problems. Confusing during lecture, makes a hard class harder.
Confusing during lecture. Does not answer questions even if you ask her during her open office hours. Does not teach what she tests on. she teaches straight out of the textbook and then tests only math-based. Very smart and is nice, but not a great teacher overall.
Omg. I am really sorry for all of you who have no choice but to take her class for your degree. She is the only teacher. She thinks she is being fair but WILL NOT consider circumstances. She is rich and takes pride in her education. She thinks a great class average is a C minus, which means very few people will get an A. Again, I'm so sorry.
Least favorite teacher I have ever had. She does over basic concepts and simple examples in class but her tests, homework and quizzes are nothing like what you do in class. I highly suggest studying the book. I learned way more from the tutors in the tutoring center than I did from her. If you walk in late she won't accept your assignment.
Schatzberg is probably one of the worst teachers I have ever had. Her lectures don't teach you much at all you'll have to do some reading on your own. Her tests are nice because she lets you redo them for half credit. Other than that it was a bad experience for me. Her lab reports were graded very hard. Take her class in the afternoon.
I like her as a person but not as a professor. She knows the material throughly but in class she gives really easy examples and in the test and homework it is the complete opposite. She takes pride in knowing that people failed her tests. If you are able to take another professor, do it!! Her test and pop quizzes are extremely hard
Wish I could give all 0's. I read these reviews below & thought I was brave to prove em wrong. Never have I been so wrong. She craps in a blender, pours it & forces u to sip it through a straw all semester. Bureaucratic thinking. Bc of how bad her class was I am now off track for grad. Take her and I'll be reading your obituary soon...
Professor Schatzberg does not care about her students and takes pride in knowing that they will fail and cannot get an A. I read the book on my own like she expects and took notes in class and get nothing from it. Her grading criteria is completely bs. She does not know how to connect with students and help them succeed. She does not care at all.
Shatzberg is definitely the worst professor I've ever had. The most unfair and inconsistent grader I've ever seen. She only enjoys watching her students fail instead of helping.
Avoid Dr. Schatzberg if possible, especially for the lab section of Chemistry. She seems to get a kick out of being smarter than students, is a very inconsistent grader, and slow to grade and return your work. She loves to give quizzes (expect 2week), making attendance essential for passing the class, even though you'll learn more from the text.
If you take Dr. Schatzberg class you better be ready for difficult times. She's tough all around; however, after studying how she runs her world I observed she is extremely rigid to help prepare students for graduate school. I have to retake her class only because I am structured as a community college student and I need to work harder.
She gets sidetracked easily. She is not always clear about how to do things or about processes. She tests on material she doesn't cover in lecture, but won't give any help as to what might be on the test. She will only help you personally during office hours. She rarely gives extra credit for missing class or assignments
Dr. Schatzberg is very inconsistent with her grading and does not care if you fail. She likes to sound smart and offers little help when you ask questions during labs.
Professor Schatzburg is a really nice teacher who tried so hard to reach the students. Problem is she moves incredibly fast through lectures without making time for questions so we can have group work and other in class assignments. Gave extremely broad and easy examples in class then in the homework and test there were much more difficult problems
Schatzberg is a goofy teacher. She goes on tangents, sometimes funny sometimes distracting. She is a decent teacher but the way her class operates I'd never recommend her. The main complaint is how we had 3 exams the entire semester each with only 20 questions. 60 questions making up the bulk of your grade is not encouraging.
Good professor who really knows her stuff. Expects you to study and be ready for exams. Can be a tough grader however if you are confused she will see you in her office hours and will work with you to clarify whayver your question is. She does quiz but they are scheduled. Tests are challenging. Very nice lady, nerdy funny. Challenging course.
Seriously one of the worst teachers ever. Test are too short and too difficult/unpredictable. The study guide is vague and you'll be studying 4 hours a day if you want anything above a B in the class.
Do not take this class unless you want to fail miserably. Hours of studying does you no good. Her tests are ridiculous and she does not know how to teach chemistry very well. I promise you, you will regret taking this class. No possible way to get an A unless you are a Chemistry genius.
She often goes off on discussions that have nothing to do with the lecture. Her lectures are also though to understand; reading the textbook would give you a better chance to pass than showing up for lectures.
I loved this class! It's not easy, but doable. Professor Schatzberg is willing to work with the class and adapt to their learning style. It won't be easy, but she is trying to prep you for grad school and harder upper division classes.
allow me to paraphrase Prof Shatzberg, "a test review shouldn't reflect what will be on the test, none of mine will and no test review should ever" she teaches one thing then tests something completely different, if you take her class you may as well just read the chapters you're in and hope she tests what you study because it could be anything.
She moved too fast for the pace of the class. Her tests are loaded with trick questions. Her personality and sense of humor is extremely irritating. Doesn't care whether you learn the material or not.
hard teacher but she'll let you sit in her office and do hw. She's good at teaching one on one. Even if you in another prof. Class. Read chapter before lecture if you can or lecture will be hard to get. If you do well in her class you'll do well everywhere else.
Most people don't take Schatzberg because they aren't willing to work. Schatzberg's been beneficial because she makes us think outside the box. Yes, her exams aren't exactly based on the reviews and what you studied for, but what life test in reality is? Might as well learn to deal with surprises from a class before you're forced to in a career
She teaches you way easy and then tests you really hard and does trick questions. Quiz every week. Quirky, and really nice, but not a great teacher.
She brings treats to class but is kind of quirky. Lectures aren't easy to follow because she gets distracted BUT she drops hints on what to study so go. There is a weekly quiz with a hint a few days before. 10 homework questions on every chapter, 4 Tests out of 20 only 3 highest count. Test reviews are bad. E.C. offered. GOOD LUCK. She is tough!
She is the easiest A I have ever had, anyone who says otherwise is not taking school seriously. Yeah she is quirky but its not that big of a deal. She really cares about how the students do on the acs test at the end. I never studied outside of class and got an A. Whatever is on the 5 min homework every two weeks is on the test
Free food in class every class
She is very quirky and describes concepts with analogies. She wants you to succeed and is willing to help. There is a quiz every week with a quiz hint given a few days before, but the quizzes aren't very hard and are mostly to just make sure you aren't falling behind. She teaches through ppts, which is nice because you know what she wants you to.
I took both Chem 1210 and 1220 from Schatzberg. She is very quirky but you get used to it quick. She doesn't have that much homework and there is a quiz every week but she gives you a quiz hint. She lets you come in during office hours to ask for help on questions. Her tests are a little hard considering she doesn't really have test reviews.
Schatzberg is a friendly and funny professor, but her Class is very hard. She gives a quiz each week that is not usually related to that is being taught most recently in class. Her Examples in class are very easy, but the exam and quizzes are very hard so you are not prepared at all. Her teaching methods don't work well and I wouldn't recommend.
I am currently studying chemical engineering at the University of Utah. Dr. Schatzberg left such an impression on me I still feel inclined to log on and rate her several years later. I took 1210 and 1220 with her and I still look back on it as one of the best parts of my college education thus far. She is Wonderful! VERY dedicated and Caring.
I took chem 1210 and 1220 from her but both semesters were pretty traumatizing. She got distracted most of the time and usually didnt make sense. She focused on the wrong material, especially in comparison with her tests which are extremely difficult.
She is a very good chemistry professor. I enjoy chemistry which may make me biased but I loved her teaching style. You have to work for your grade but it's not extremely hard to do well. She explained things very well. There can be some confusion at times but she always clears it up. Great chem instructor!
Dr. Schatzberg is quirky, smart, and knows what she is talking about. She says reading the textbook is not mandatory, but, if you want to pass, definitely give it a look. She will help you if you reach out. No quizzes, only her 4 exams. The fourth one is optional and can only help your grade. The exams are hard, but she will "adjust" your score.
Do not take an online class from this professor unless you have a lot of time to spare. She will not teach enough for you to do really well on her exams. The exams have random questions that look nothing like her very few practice ones. To understand the exam questions, you must do the textbook questions (which she claims aren't mandatory).
Dr. Schatzberg is very smart but has the hardest time helping her students understand the topics. She is nearly impossible to talk after exams and will not tell you what you missed. If you have the option to take a class from her or transfer to another school, I would recommend the latter. My brother did that and was much better off.
I have taken both gen chem 1 and gen chem 2 from professor Schatzberg. For chem 2 she completely changed her class format. There is no way to know what will be on the tests which makes the curve your only hope for getting an A. She provides minimal practice problems and I felt like I didn't learn as much as I should have.
She will not respond if she doesnt feel like it. I had a hard time getting her to respond or even acknowledge my messages. Her homework is not helpful & she is not understanding when the website messes up your score. The tests are really hard and cover things you never saw in the homework or lectures. I learned most of the curriculum from the lab.
If she doesnt like what you ask her, she will ignore it. She is NOT flexible on grades & wont tell you what you missed on tests. She uses SmartWork for HW but it doesnt help students because if you get it wrong, itll never tell you how to solve it or even give a hint. It also has questions about topics that you wont learn for another week. RUN
Ignores pleas for help unless she can show you how much smarter she is. Homework looks NOTHING like her tests, the only hope for an A is her adjustment. I lost respect for her as she hardly provided any info to pass her class. When she makes a mistake, she gets defensive &claims shes busy. She is vague in explaining & careless in demonstration
Do not take an online class from Schatzberg. Its her excuse to not help her students and be lazy in teaching them. If you arent smart enough, she wont like you.
I loved Dr. Schatzberg! I know her teaching style isn't for everyone but I took Gen. Chem I online from her and loved every minute of it! She made it enjoyable and explained things in a way that was clear for me to understand, and tried to keep positivity up! Sure wish she taught O. Chem I & II!
Professor Schatzberg is the worst professor I've had to date. She wasn't understanding, and told me my best option was to drop the class when I was struggling with the curriculum. The homework gives you way more complicated problems than anything she shows you in her lectures, so you have to rely HEAVILY on the book.
Asked her if she would go over some basics with me and she responded "read chapters 1-11 in your textbook." HW not related to lectures but graded heavily. Tutors recommended transferring professors on my first visit. She's really nice and well-intended. No relation between HW and lectures, which makes grading against the student.
Professor doesn't give access to lecture material to students and then does not give them enough time to write down lecture notes as she quickly clicks through powerpoint slides. This is extremely unfair to the students who are there to truly get an education and succeed. She is unintentionally harming her students and their success by doing this.
Do not take this course from her if you have the option not to. She has a good personality and makes silly jokes, but makes the course harder for her students. She is not too awful but she isn't great either.
Way more interested in being cute & quirky than in teaching, u won't learn 1 thing from her. LOVES to flex her accomplishments constantly. Throws darts at a board 2 decide grades and is not open 2 discussion. Introduced a new concept ON THE TEST. Has students write labs for her so she doesn't have to. Can't answer any questions. Condescending.
She really seems to care about her students and if they are learning the material!
Go to office hours! I found myself really confused and once I went to office hours and talked with her, it really made a difference!
I honestly loved Dr. Schatzberg. She was very fun and made Chemistry something to look forward to! Her tests are all comprehensive, but as long as you study and read some of the textbook you'll be fine. She is super fun and helps the material flow. I would definitely recommend taking her for Chemistry!
Dr. Schatzberg made General Chemistry interesting and easy to understand with their clear teaching and fun enthusiasm. They were always available to help when I needed it, which made a big difference in my learning. I definitely recommend their class to anyone wanting to get a good grasp of chemistry and a good grade.
Dr. Schatzberg is the best! Her lectures are extremely organized and summarize the book in a way I could actually understand! Her exams can be difficult (she curves the exams), but if you study well and go to her office hours you'll get through the class! Overall, she's caring, a genius, and super fun!
Professor Schatzberg is an amazing chemistry teacher who makes tough topics easy to understand. Her classes are clear and interesting, and she really got us excited about chemistry. She's available for help (go to office hours!) and gives great feedback. Thanks to her, I've come to really enjoy chemistry and feel ready for whatever comes next.
Professor Schatzberg is great at breaking down tough chemistry topics and makes class really interesting. They're super helpful and always available if you need extra help.
Professor Schatzberg is amazing. She brings humor to one of the most difficult undergrad classes, making it surprisingly enjoyable. Despite the class's challenges, Schatzberg goes above and beyond to make it as manageable as possible. She's genuinely an exceptional professor
She makes chemistry fun and interesting, breaking down tough concepts so we really understand them. Her enthusiasm for the subject is infectious, and she always encourages us to ask questions. I feel supported in her class, and because of her, I actually find a love for chemistry! I highly recommend her to anyone looking to learn!
She has a unique way of explaining difficult topics that makes everything clear and enjoyable. Her excitement for chemistry shines through in every class, and she creates an environment where we feel comfortable sharing our thoughts. I really appreciate how she takes the time to help each of us succeed.
Professor Schatzberg is fantastic! She makes chemistry fun and easy to grasp, always dropping a great punny science joke like, “Why do chemists like nitrates? Because they're cheaper than day rates!”
I really enjoy Professor Schatzberg's chemistry class; she explains the material clearly and makes it fun, and I appreciate that she's always available to help when I have questions
She designed the class for student success - if you are a bad test taker (like me) you can still get a good grade by doing well on all the other assignments. This is great!
I love going to class, Professor Schatzberg makes learning chemistry fun!
I like how she grades the tests and answers questions
I had a great time in this class, and it was clear that Professor Schatzberg genuinely wanted to help me learn
She is a great teacher who makes things easy to learn
She's a good teacher - make sure to do the homeworks and in-class problems
Attendance isn't mandatory but there's points and you really start to get how to solve the problems by attending
The key to this class - do work ahead. She opens the assignments massively early and you can redo them as much as you want until the due date
She actually makes chemistry fun!
I would recommend Prof Schatzberg over the others - she makes the content clear and goes through examples in class
She's a professor that really tries to make learning fun
I like the lectures and the feedback on assignments, test corrections help also
She found time to help me out when I really was having trouble with some concepts. She's great!
Honestly a really good chem prof. Lectures are fun and make sense, not just reading off slides. Would totally take again.
Schatzberg gives small daily assignments, truly cares about helping students, and makes sure we understand everything. She makes chemistry fun and easy to learn
I liked her class. I think she was fair and I had a blast learning chemistry (and I didn't think I would!)
I thought she was a good professor and she made chemistry class fun
I took this class years ago and while the class is hard, I learned a lot and it prepared me for my future career in chemistry
I liked her! The class wasn't too hard and she made it interesting
She went through a lot of examples on the board that really helped. Go to office hours if you need help
I thought she was a good professor, cared about the class
I like how she explains chemistry using easy to understand language
She's amazing!
The professor's lectures are super clear and actually pretty fun, and they really make an effort to connect with students. Just make sure you keep up with the textbook, because it helps a ton with the class
Chemistry's a struggle, for sure, but the professor makes it way easier to understand. Just keep up with the homework and do the in-class problems, and you'll be fine.
She's my favorite professor! Thanks Dr Schatzberg!
