if you want a teacher that knows how to teach calculus, take her. she puts notes on webct that you print off and use for class, she lets you know everything that's going to be on the tests and final, and she gives you take home quizzes. she's awesome. just listen in class and do the homework, and you'll get at least a b.
i have never had such a bad math teacher, she seemed nervous all the time and didn't know what she was doing. she would do examples and expect you to know them and wouldn't actually TEACH how to do it..i ended up dropping her class
She's so nice. I had her for summer 2 session, and she goes over the material at a slow pace and asks if anyone has questions so that everyone can understand it. The tests are relatively easy as long as you study and take notes, and she's willing to help you if you need it. You just have to go to class willing to learn and you will do fine.
She puts her notes on webct which is cool. Shes also helpful and works examples; the only problem is shes really boring and seems pretty nervous while teaching.
Professor is very nice and easy going she teaches very well and shetakes her time but i agree that she gets a little confuse on some things
She is really sweet and goes over everything at a good pace. I always have trouble with math, she really helped me get on the right track. The best way to do well is do your homework, and you'll definately be well prepared for tests. She's one of the best math teachers I've had.
I highly recommend her; very nice
she is SO helpful- bring her your questions on take-home assignments for a 100! She makes the material very easy to understand with only a little effort outside of class
mmm... deep down she's pretty cool, however, teaching she started out good but got bad toward the end. Confused half the time, and don't get her when she has a baby in her she'll fall down all the time and scare you to death.

I did not like her one bit. Very confusing and did not take time to help students other than office hours. Many times did not even seem to know what she was doing completely. Told you to alway communicate through WebCT and would not give you the time of day to ask questions in class. I would never recommend her. I wish I knew this going into it.
Ms. Sheppard is incredibly nice... and she makes it as easy as it gets... you print out the note packets and just fill them in during class... Precal is not that hard as long as you keep up with the work... but Ms. Sheppard was on point for sure... TAKE HER
Terrible class. Teacher seemed very confused and disoriented during class. Will not answer questions during class and does not present material in an understandable way. DO NOT TAKE unless you are already amazing at math.

She easily gets lost, and when she answers questions it makes me more confused. She's a nice woman, but a terrible teacher.
She knows her stuff... kinda. but you cannot EVER expect her to explain how she got from point A to point B. classes are very boring and lecture-like. she is nice, and always dresses to impress. I never studied though, so I guess I cannot complain. just do well on the final and you are set.
I've used my textbook one time. All you need is the MyStatLab program. She is helpful and understanding, but in class can be snippy and seems to confuse herself while teaching. She certainly doesn't dress to impress, and don't even let her think you're texting or are on Facebook on your laptop because she will humiliate you and hate you forever.
She's a nice woman, but she has trouble explaining the material. The class itself isn't very hard, but you might have to teach yourself a little. She's willing to help though. She has a pretty strict attendance policy and he will take your phone if she catches you texting.
Not too difficult, just make sure to do the online homework and quizzes she assigns they make things a lot clearer.
She is a nice lady..there to help but a little scatter brained when it comes to explaining some of the material..I also got frustrated b/c she takes stupid points off on test for not showing exactly what work she wants to see even if you have the right answer it was super annoying..she will take ur phone like its high school be careful texting
Definitely looking back would not be my first choice. the class is pretty much self taught through the HLS, which is why i never understood why attendance was mandatory. we rarely used the textbook. it's kinda boring and we can't even use our phones. she seems nice, but it doesn't make the class any better.
Sheppard is a great teacher when it comes to preparation. Make sure to print out notes before class. Class is just going over the notes. Half the time it is lecture style, no phones, talking or anything. The other half its group work which is fun. Homework online is easy. Tests are not hard as long as you know your stuff. Extra credit points too
I think she is a nice person, but as a teacher she is all over the place. She stutters and is unclear when explaining. I do like that she gives you the notes online to print out and bring to class. She seems prepared for class but needs to explain the material better.
Nice woman, dreadful class. She was terrible at explaining anything and couldn't really control or interest the class. Somewhat pretty, but dresses worse than my grandmother.
She is really into procedure and long-winded explanations of nothing. She disregards any analytical or intuitive aspects of statistics in favor of pretending to be a living textbook. No homework, she gives study guides but adds a view extra things to tests. she finds a way to make the most simple concepts incomprehensible.
Mrs. Sheppard is not the best at teaching, but she does care about her students and always responds to emails. Quizzes are easy, tests are harder, but she always provides a study guide.
She is very sweet and knows what she is doing. However, the class is boring but I don't really know how anyone expects math to be fun. Only three tests that she curves and in class/group quizzes. Definitely not a bad class for geneds.
Her class was actually very easy! She gives out optional homework from the book which is helpful for extra studying for tests and online homework which is also optional but she adds it into your average if it helps! if you go to class, take notes, and study the review youll definitely get an A or B depending how good you are with math!
Really nice lady, willing to help and answer any questions you have. Does get very stressed when pushed for time and a bit short/rude. Overall, do the online homework, pay attention in class, do the test reviews and you'll do great!
She has little to no personality but it suits the subject of math just fine. She is sweet and willing to help if you ask questions. Classes are boring but simple and it's easy to do well if you pay attention 50% of the time.
This class was super easy, and I didn't even take Stats in high school. DONT BUY THE TEXTBOOK, I never used it once. Do the online homework, go to class, take notes and you will be fine! She is boring and a bit weird but an easy A!
Stats was pretty basic. She taught straight out of the book. She was helpful, but sometimes was hard to understand the concepts. The class was generally easy, and she does mix it up with group projects and classwork activities. She was a decent teacher, but I wouldn't take her again. 2.5/5.
She is a great teacher! I hate this class and have had a really hard time before with other teachers. She explains it well and there are many attempts given to raise your grade. I would definitely recommend her.
She is great and gives you many chances to bring your grade up. You can use a page of your own notes for the final. I would definitely take her again.
This class is easier than my previous math classes. She is not a harsh grader on the assingments. Homeworks are online and you can improve your homework grade anytime even it says past due. If you go over homework questions before the tests, you get an A.
Pr. Sheppard is a very good math teacher. She is sweet and will always try to help you out if you don't understand the material. She gives a lot of homework but it's online so you can always improve your grade. If you go over the homework and the study guide before the test, you only can get an A.

Professor Sheppard is the best Precalc teacher you can ask for. She is super nice and explains things with great details and uses tons of visuals to help show what you're learning. She always works with you and is very friendly.
This class was overall difficult and I struggled with it not because of her but because the course is just an incredibly hard class. This class will make you think what are you doing but Sheppard is helpful overall. She had a lot going on in her life this semester so she may be different for you but she was very soft-spoken and hard to understand.
This is my first math class in college, and I'm doing decent. Lots of online homework. Posts notes online for you to print out and take notes on. Posts study guides and practice quizzes/tests. Sometimes will give you a day's notice for a quiz.
This class is almost like a self-paced math class. At first I thought this was going to be an easier way to tame a math class. After going to class for a month, it became clear that a traditional math class was better. I would only recommend taking this class if you like teaching yourself math equations for the most part.
Sheppard should 100% be your teacher. This class is not easy it is HARD. It is not her fault but the department's fault. She makes sure you understanding everything. And even gives out extra credit if you catch her mistake. She also gives practice test and quizzes if you do them you'll past. She provides previous tests too you do them you pass.
I'm not much of a math major so I took this as an online course for the summer. Way more difficult than anticipated. I spent more time trying to understand the concepts and problems for the homework than actually answering the question. If math isn't your best I suggest taking it regularly during the semester.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic ,and having a compromised immune system, I decided to take this math class online . She does not get back to emails in a timely matter. Expect one day in advanced quizzes .She emails students about things after professional business hours . The video she uploads for the notes are bare minimum. SELF TAUGHT COURSE
I wouldnt recommend taking her online pre-calculus course. She posts videos that explain each section but they arent very helpful and they dont match up with test questions. She doesnt really answer emails and is a very harsh grader. She doesnt really seem to care if you do good in the class or not.
She doesnt respond to emails in a timely manner IF she replies to them at all. She is a very harsh grader and she teaches with a calculator but we aren't allowed to use a calculator on the tests. Her notes don't cover everything that is being tested on. The material is hard, but its made a LOT harder when you have to teach yourself.
She is nice, but her class is very difficult, especially if you already struggle with math. The homework takes several hours to complete, and often does not match the content of the quizzes and tests. You can use a calculator for quizzes and some tests, but not on the midterm or final exam. Also, she responds to her email very slowly, if at all.
Her notes didn't match the homework at all, which correlated to doing bad on test and quizzes. She was super accessible outside of class time, so if you do end up having her most definitely use that resource. She is a super sweet lady, I just didn't like the way she set up her class at all, it made everything more confusing.
Prof Sheppard was not a good teacher for me. The content from the notes were bare minimum of what was on her exams. She teaches with a calculator, but you can not use one on the midterm or final. Her response time to emails takes 5-7 days, which does not reflect what her syllabus states. I would never take her again.
Prof Sheppard would always be available for help through email, office hours, or discussion board. However, when I would go to her for help I often would not understand the information any better. The way she would explain things was not very helpful for me. Also, her tests have much harder content than we go over in the notes, and lots of homework
Ms Sheppard is so so understanding and genuinely wants her students to do well! I am in her summer class, and this is my 3rd time attempting this class. She actually cares about us and wants us to pass. I wish I could have taken her class in person!
NOT A FAN OF THIS LADY WHATSOEVER. SO stinking rude and mean. Tried to go for help and she legit told me I would fail and barley helped. She took points off tests and quizs for no reason and you had to show all work even if it was basic math. DO NOT take this class it SUCKS BUDUSS like ill never use this math in my life it was all so pointless.
I had to drop the class bc I wasn't learning well. I failed three tests and felt there was too much homework. She uses an online website ALEKS to basically get the website teach you instead of herself. I don't recommend this teacher if you previously struggled with math classes. You stress more over getting the goals done than prepping for test.
Not a good teacher at all. You have to teach yourself and if you teach yourself wrong you will fall very behind. It's super easy to fall behind and struggle. No excuses for missing anything, even if it is very reasonable or serious. If you do bad on the tests you will fail and they are timed.
Sheppard is the worst math professor I have ever taken. She is just straight up rude and doesnt care at all about her students. We started class with 21 students and everyone dropped because she is so harsh on grading. Her homework assignments arent even in sync with what she is teaching. Went to office hours and she basically told me Id fail

Tests were everything. Each one was 55% of your grade. You can't really recover from tests with classwork because it counts for a mere 2-5% of your grade. Don't take if your poor at tests. An absurd amount of time must be dedicated to the course. Imagine completing 67 topics in a week, each week almost. Horrible math experience at Cofc. Go to GAs
Her lectures aren't really the meat of the class, although they are mandatory and she likes to cold call. If you do the (6 hr/week minimum) homework you will be fine. I completed 80% of the homework objectives and made a C-. Tests are the large majority of the grade, but there are five.
Professor Sheppard is very lecture heavy, but explains topics in the most simple way as possible and gives you everything you need to know to pass the class. As long as you pay attention and ask questions, the class is easy to pass. Prof Sheppard is always available to answer questions and genuinely cares about your grade and wants you to pass.
Wendy sheppard is the worst professor ever. Not accommodating, rude, and does not care about her students. Expects you to know everything the second she teaches it, dont even bother going to her for help, because she wont give it to you. I asked her for help and she did nothing of the sort. She never grades things on time, expect 3 -4 weeks after.
if u struggle & have anxiety w/ math don't take her. she is rude and nonchalant to her students' needs. she's the reason I withdrew and am not graduating on time. she doesn't care if students struggle. doesn't respond to emails quickly. doesn't care at all. mean, not understanding, can't explain things. can't use calculators for nothing.
Very test oriented. Not many opportunities to raise grade other than doing well on tests. Insanely fast at writing. Didn't learn during class because I was so busy writing. Posts all lecture material on OAKS with videos. Seek CSL if you're bad at math. Use note cards to memorize equations. Gives partial credit. Kind lady but difficult to learn info
Sheppard has a lot of information that she has to fit into a very small amount of time, so she moves quite fast. If you ask questions, or for her to reexplain a problem she will always stop and answer you. There's lots of homework but if you don't finish it gets reopened before test so you can get your grade up if you didn't finish before. Love her
I've never had a professor as harsh of a grader as Professor Sheppard. If you forget to show one step on a problem, you will get the entire problem wrong. Attendance is mandatory. She goes through the notes so fast that you spend more time catching up with writing than paying any attention to her. If you have any other option, don't take her class.
If you already struggle with math, do NOT take this class. She is hard to get in touch with, gives unreasonably hard tests, and takes forever to grade. During lectures, she writes so fast that you can't write it down in your notes, let alone learn the material. Please listen to me and these other ratings, save yourself, and do not take this class.

Professor Sheppard is not a terrible person , she goes VERY quick she isn't someone I would take again but she does give out extra credit and take home quizzes that can help boost up your grade. overall don't take her if you struggle with remembering things that you learned from high school . She kind of expects you to remember it .

Professor Sheppard's teaching style wasn't for me, but I don't think that she is by any means an awful professor. Pre-calc is a difficult class, and she doesn't have control over the sheer amount of content. She is very available and will take the time to help if you need it - do not be scared by the bad reviews! ALEKS is the key to success tbh.
The worst professor I've ever had here. We had at least 3 weeks online when it was supposed to be an in-person class. Tests are tough & not like homework or reviews at all. Tests are worth 50% of the overall grade. Over half the class failed the first test even with a 38-point curve. Don't take her if you value your GPA.
I regret taking this class so much and do not take this class if you care about your GPA. The tests are way different from what she taught in class and what was on ALEKS. You can get A's on every ALEKS and quiz but since the tests are worth 50%, you're pretty much screwed when you don't score well. SO many people in my class also did not do well.
If you aren't a good test taker, your GPA will suffer -- the best you can do after the fact is +5 Extra Credit points. If you take her class, though, know that you need to study more than you think you do for tests and quizzes. If you need help, do NOT wait until the last minute. Don't expect to be able to use your calculator at all.
She gives fair tests and grades fairly. She offers extra credit and offers LOTS of resources. She wants you to succeed. I would most definitely take her again.
For a professor that teaches mostly lower level math she is insanely difficult and doesn't care if you fail despite trying. The test are designed for you to spend only a few minutes on each question which leaves no time for you to go back and check or even finish all of the answers. If you are a non-math major do not take this class please!
Truly, TRULY, do not let the majority of these reviews fog your vision. I still took the class after seeing them, went in with an open mind and was incredibly surprised. She is kind, composed, accommodating, and open to assisting in any way. You just have to ask, and she will meet. Homework is open-ended - online, 4 exams, lots of resources given!
I had a good experience with this professor. Her class is fast paced, however, asking questions helps even out the pace. She did not get annoyed when interrupting her to ask a question. After all, she never stopped to pause, so it ended up being alright. Nice, sweet and easy going from my experience.
Do not let this rating and these reviews turn you away. Initially, I was wary, but Professor Shepard is one of my new favorite professors. She is funny, brought us candy, and truly cares about her students. As to her teaching, her teaching is very straightforward and easy to follow with her packets, and she offers a lot of extra credit.
Homework took hours to complete, practice tests for exams on ALEKS are useless (use her example practice tests she provides bcuz they're more helpful). Teaches very fast - as someone who struggles with math this was a challenge for me. If it wasn't for all the extra credit she gives at the end of the semester I wouldn't have passed so there's that
She does such a good job explaining the material. Would highly recommend, she's so sweet and will meet with you to help if you ask!
If I hadn't taken stat in high school I would have been so lost. She doesn't teach the content very well and makes the 50 minute class feel hours long. The homework is pretty straightforward and it's not a lot. She will not let you make up a quiz or quiz-level project if you miss it (she drops the lowest though).
She was a very nice lady and a pretty good teacher. The class got boring so it was easy to lose focus sometimes but if you just do the homework and take notes you'll be fine. She wasnt a tough grader when it came to tests.
Not good at teaching. Makes everything very difficult to understand when the concept is relatively simple. Will delay homework due dates but will pile them all due on one day which makes things more difficult than just making it due when it's supposed to be due. Also her “projects” never make any sense and don't correlate to the tests.
I was very scared when I initially read these reviews. I have always hated math and I came into it thinking that I might fail. She was always happy to help me during her office hours. Enroll in the support class. GO TO THE GRAD ASSISTANTS. Go to the CSL. When you study, get tutored at the same time. Use your resources. Lots of extra credit!
