Class is kind of hard, but a lot of extra credit is given. The extra credit could easily bring you up a letter grade.
Very strict on grades. Gives extra credit but its not much on a 1000 pt grading scale. I missed a B in the class by 1 question on the final. Tests were memorization of formulas and such. Group activities everyday and quizes every Friday so you cant ski
Tietz's class was difficult, but easier if you went to class all the time. She was very helpful if I went to her for outside help and she would follow up with me to make sure I was doing alright. Very understanding, tries to make class as clear as poss.
Go to class, pay attention, and you should do fine. She's very helpful/down to earth. Not too hard of a class. Very fair!
Difficult class, good professor. Do the extra credit and get all the possible points on the homework so you don't miss a B by one question on the final like I did!
well if you can follow her pulling numbers from thin air, then you should do fine. She is a clicker teacher.. so tack on an extra $30 to the class fee. This class was a waste of time, don't take it if you don't have to.
I HATE the class, how she teaches, and the way she does her point system. the book is expensive, you have to spend about $200 to take this class. Take this class at a regional campus or at a community college because shes the only one who teaches this at kent. WORST CLASS I HAVE EVER TAKEN.
This **** is terrible...tried to avoid her last year but then found out this year she's the only teacher...hard as hell, very unforgiving, no extra credit!
good teacher, stiff on the grading but she is willing to help you if you ask. you dont need to buy the book just be sure to print out the handouts for class online. okay course.
She was very helpful, you did the problems everyday, so you understand them when it came to test time
Tietz is a nice lady. She's very helpful, easy to understand, and as long as you show up to class, you're guarenteed to get a good grade. (She also offered extra credit twice this semester). The class is expensive with the clickers though, so I'd find a friend who took it last semester and offer to buy his/her textbook.
I had Tietz for Managerial Accounting. I did not enjoy going to class because I always left feeling confused. She would have made a better kindergarten teacher.
She gives you practice exams with the answers which is almost identical to the actual exams, just with different numbers. You can also bring a notecard. However, the final was close to impossible. I had a B the whole year but bombed the final and ended up with a C. Attendance is a must because the clicker points add up to more than a test grade.
Class is no longer mandatory but definitely helpful. Homework and quizzes are all online. Exams are kind of tricky, just use the study plan on the homework website. I basically taught myself everything because it was a little hard to comprehend what was going on.
Not to bad. Online hw and quizes. But if you look really hard in the book you can find all the answers to the quizes ;)
This lady is awful. I asked her for help and she told me no and to go see a tutor. Her exams are extremely hard. The homework and quizzes are easy though. Attendance is a waste of time since everything is done on myaccountinglab.com.
Nice lady, not always the best teacher. Tests are much harder than the hw and quizzes. Answer to the mult choice ?'s on the quizzes are that the end of the chapter. 4 exams 50%, keeps all the scores. HW and Quizzes make up other 50% of grade
I enjoyed her online financial acccounting class (except the fact that I was dumb enough to take it during intercession). She was very helpful and understanding of my needs with an upcoming surgery that was planned after the class started. Treat her with a little respect and it will go a LONG way! :D
Worst teacher ever...
Pretty horrible. Prepare to dedicate your entire life to this class. Some of the questions feel as if they have 100 parts to them.
This teacher is absolutely the worst teacher I've had at Kent State. She treats this INTRODUCTION class like we have had this information for years. I STRONGLY recommend you to NOT TAKE HER! She will make your semester awful. I'm not kidding.
She is terrible... Worst professor I've had since I've been at Kent. The online course got to take all their exams open note open book (non-proctored), but if you were in the lecture class you got ****ed; first 3 proctered with a 3x5 notecard and thats it. Prepare to study a lot, and do not slack; highly recommend saving all your notes from ur work
This is by far one of the worst classes i've ever had to take at Kent. Tietz is a terrible teacher and acts like we are all professional accountants who know everything. You have homework every week that will take at least 3 hours to do, sometimes more. Tests are impossible even with the small note card. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!
I took her managerial accounting class online and for me it was really easy. I barely used the book at all, but you will be very, very interactive in myaccountinglab. Overall, I got an A- for about a B amount of effort put in.
I took the online version of her Fin. Accounting. She was helpful when I emailed her and class was a lot of work, but I also learned too..
Worst teacher ever. She makes her class as hard as possible with no intention of letting in. She gave extra credit of 1% and that's it. She had to put a curve on a test because everyone failed but didn't curve the other ones that everyone failed as well. DO NOT TAKE. I attended every class and got 100% on every thing but failed the tests.
Financial Accounting class was tricky and there is alot of work involved but accounting needs PRACTICE. It sucked but you have to do it to get through the class. I ended up with a B- and I was aiming for a C. Weekly HW & Quizzes take a few hours but if you dedicate yourself to this class you can pass easily.
Web-based and this teacher was STILL the WORST one I've ever had. Unsympathetic to every question. The "lectures" that are recorded are useless, all she does is read directly from the book. I got one assignment in late and asked her nicely for SOME credit (1.2 points) that I needed to get an A (my 1st 4.0) and she wouldn't even discuss it. TERRIBLE
Took face-to-face section. Can attend lectures in person or watch at home. All assignments & exams are done through My Accounting Lab. Weekly hw & quizzes--can take quizzes twice & unlimited attempts at hw. 3 proctored exams(can use 3x5 note card). Final is take home, but timed. Study Plan, Quick Checks, SI & tutoring are your keys to passing
Instructor seems disorganized at times and overwhelmed, stressed. Powerpoints regularly out of order and number. MyAccountingLab is unforgiving: sheer volume of work with discouraging demands on rounding exactness will make you wish you never took this class.Brilliant Dr. of Accounting who has no business teaching intro courses. DO NOT TAKE!!!
Way too much work for an intro class, she demands far too much and expects you to memorize and comprehend massive amounts of material. Do not blow off the homework and quizzes or expect to be able to complete them just before they're due. Expect to spend a LOT of time devoted to this class if you want a quality grade. This class is ruining my life.
good teacher, her powerpoints are very clear and you will know what you need to do to get a good grade. BUT hard class, very very difficult to get an A.
took her online intro to financial accounting class. it was nice to be able to do a chapter with a hw and quiz every 3 days. the quizzes are the same stuff as the hw so right down how to do the hw problems and i mean every step, it will make your life easier.
Really like the way she teaches. Does a lot of examples in class. If you do the practice problems and homework problems you'll do fine. Tests are somewhat difficult - you definitely need to spend time studying for them.
HORRIBLE. If you want a teacher that expects you to make accounting your life and doesn't realize that you may have other classes to focus on also be my guest and take her. Take this class at a regional campus because she's the only option at kent.
Simply awful. She expects all students to make accounting their lives. Along with this, she's very snappy over email and has no interest in concerns. The test average is usually 60 and she doesn't care; gives very little bonus. Granted, it's a hard class regardless, but she makes it worse. She does have the option of viewing online, though.
Man... all I'ma say is I really didn't understand that class.
Not a very nice professor. She is really strict, her test averages are 60% with no curve. Do not ask her to offer any extra credit or help with anything, you will just receive a very blunt email.
Take the online course in the summer. It's a pretty tough one, and includes a decent amount of work. You do 2 chapters per week with quizzes and homework. She did curve our midterm and final. Midterm was open book; final you could bring a cheat sheet and was proctored. Tietz was very quick to respond via email and was helpful.
Wendy was one of the worst teachers I have ever had. Her emails are blunt and unprofessional. She should take a Business Communications class and learn proper email etiquette! She could care less about you, and doesn't even offer extra credit even when the majority of the class bombs the exams.
Took online version over summer. Straight forward, online lectures. Online tests and homework. Do the homework and you'll be fine. If you slack off on the work you will struggle. If you aren't disciplined, do not take online.
The absolute worse and only financial accounting teacher on the main campus.Do not take her or consider switching your major if this class is mandatory for it.
AWFUL. You might pass if you do all of the weekly quizzes and homework, which take FOREVER to finish. It's a bunch of busy work and she just flies through the material. Luckily, she curved the exam.
She expects you to make this class your life. The weekly 3 quizzes and homework will take you forever do, and the exams are hard. She used a curve, but says she doesn't like to. If you can, take another teacher for this course.
She is a lazy teacher that gives you a bunch of busy work to do online every week. Her exams are set up for failure. 30 questions worth 100 points which will be weighted. If you miss two questions its a B. She absolutely doesnt teach. She does example questions in class and that is it. No lecture. Expects you to teach yourself. DO NOT TAKE!!!
I took her hybrid online/live Intro to Financial Accounting class and have no idea what the problem is. As long as you watch her lectures (which, by the way, are online) and use all the myriad resources she gives you, it's a breeze. The only thing that isn't open note are her exams. Even online hmwk lets you have multiple attempts.
She's the worst teacher int he college of business. Dont know how to teach, so much busy work. It dont help she is the only financial acct teacher. For a 3 credit hour class it has 5 credit hours worth of work. Im not at all lazy but I also have 4 other classes to work for and since im not privileged enough to have mr obama pay for my school i work
Horrible. Unsympathetic, went to speak with her about my grade and she more or less told me I wasn't smart enough to pass. Was very rude and forgot we even had a meeting. Only option at Kent, DO NOT take her if you have another option. Impossible to pass, unless you are a math wiz and accounting is your entire life.
Hard class, but she is helpful. There is a lot of busy work and the exams are difficult, but you get a cheat sheet and she curves. Homework and quiz answers are in her lectures, so I don't understand the confusion there.
3 extremely hard tests, they all get curve 5-10%, and a lot of HW/weekly quizzes help grade tremendously. These consume a good amount of time though. All quizzes are equally weighted, there are in class pop quizzes and some quizzes are just for attending class. Must go or watch live.
This class is very hard, but what accounting class is easy. A lot of work is involved. Do the quizzes, HW, and study for test from Study Plan and you will be fine. She is very clear and sends email reminders on what is due. Just do the work!!
Not an easy class, take advantage of tutoring if available. I completed all homework and quizzes with my tutor. I received B's on tests with A LOT of study plan the week before tests. I did not purchase the book as she let you write down problems that were from the book before she would solve them.
I'm in her class right now and it is very difficult. But I don't know why people dislike her so much. It's the class that's hard and you have to work and pay attention to be able to pass. There are 3 exams but she allows you to use a sheet of paper back and front to put notes on and use on the exams. Always reminds due dates, tutoring, what to know
Her class is fairly difficult for non-accounting majors, but it is definitely attainable to get an A. She lets you use a front and back of a page for a reference sheet on tests, which helps immensely. The class is super super boring, but if you take good notes, use Study Plan, and make an awesome reference sheet, you should be able to get an A.
I just now dropped her course and readded for the Fall. She states on her syllabus that the lowest exam gets dropped, well I added the course during the summer still during the drop/add and she sent an email that if quiz 1 wasnt completed by Wed of week 1, which was first day I registered she would assign an NF for the course. Doesnt make sense.
Yes, her tests are difficult but if you use study plan and pay attention in class then you won't have a problem. She does have you take quite a few quizzes and do homework but all in all if you sit down and focus then they wont take long at all. Biggest thing is to pay attention in class whether you are watching online or physically there.
The class is REALLY HARD. You have to focus, use her suggestions. I figured out the best way for me was to do an objective, stop go over the lecture, do the study plan assignment, then go to the next objective. The notes for the exams were helpful. She was a nice teacher, easily reachable, and willing to help.
Just 3 exams, and if you take the exam on the monday, you will get 10 points extra!
I am taking Professor Tietz for financial accounting and even though all of the material is new and kind of difficult, she makes her expectations clear. If you put in the effort, an A is attainable. Take the practice exams as many times as you can!
Im a hard worker but her lectures & HW overload w material & don't resemble tests well. Overload compiles with new inforules as year progresses. Expects book memorization! She doesn't teach in a way that a novice can swallow, nor with love, nor to help us get smarter, a trait all to common amongst professors. She has no tolerance for the weaker!
To sum up her style, we had class on Wednesday at 7:45am the day before Thanksgiving (3 kids went to class on that day), and homework due that Thanksgiving weekend on Saturday(and it was a challenging assignment at first). That may seem silly, but it shows her personality. She expects everyone to be on her level and overwhelms beginner students.
Tests are tougher than nails. Information overload!
She made me dislike accounting. My brothers are succesful accountants and they were surprised at how she overcomplicated things. If she conveyed things better this class would be better.
One of the hardest classes I've ever had to take. There is the option of taking the online version of the class where you watch her lecture online; I STRONGLY RECOMMEND to NOT TAKE THE ONLINE VERSION. If I could do it over I would take the traditional method and make sure I attended every class. If you miss one class, you miss A LOT of material.
A moderate course overall as far as difficulty. The information itself isn't difficult, but the volume can be a little much. She tends to fly through the material so take good notes. If you want an A: DO THE STUDY PLAN AND PRACTICE EXAMS because she pulls all her exam questions word for word from those Most people here don't put the effort in.
Had her for Into to Financial Accounting. Did not enjoy her classes at all. She reads off powerpoint slides the whole class, so don't expect to learn any tricks from her to solve any problems. Be prepared: if you have a question about almost anything about the class, her answer is review the syllabus. I would not recommend taking her classes at all
Had for Into to Financial Accounting. I struggle with math and this class was very difficult for me. I think she is a horrible teacher-she reads off the slides, makes things more difficult then they really are, and a common answer for her with any problems is "Read the syllabus". Take with someone else if you can, STRONGLY RECOMMEND DONT TAKE CLASS
Pretty basic accounting class. If you attend class and pay attention you will do well. The practice tests on myaccountinglab really prepare you for the tests and you get 5 tries at the practice test.
She's a great teacher and all her lectures are very clear. But you have to go to class or you wont know whats going on. Only thing is her tests are very difficult. There's things on there that usually aren't taught and it can be confusing at times.
First off, if you're not very good with technology don't take this class because EVERYTHING you do is online. Lectures are good and she puts thing into real life things then you get to the tests and they are NOTHING like she taught.
This class is not as horrible as everyone says it is. I didn't pay Any attention to the lectures at all and just learned of the homework and still got an A. Wendy is nice enough she always responds to emails quick. Class is boring but what do you expect it's an accounting class. Very possible to get an A just take all the practice exams.
Attendance is required, she is helpful. You have to attend the class no one can sign for you. She uses learning catholitcs for attendance. i didn't miss any class, i do my homework every week. you can retake the homework until you get a 100%. there are three quizzes, the good practice for the quizzes is the practice exam that will be given.
One of the hardest classes I've ever taken and I'm a 4.0 student!!! Ended with a B but definitely not easy. Tests are extremely hard. She flies through the material assuming you understand it (thinks everyone is an accounting major and will understand it) and crams a ton of info for each test!! BEWARE!!!
This was financial accounting and to say the least it is definitely a class you want to stay on top of. Her powerpoints acted as valuable resources when studying for the exams, which could be very challenging. She was a good professor, but I did not find the information she taught interesting. Make sure to review all homework assignments for exams
Had her several years ago. she was horrible. When I would go for help, she would infer I wasnt smart enough to do well. Fell ill that semester and missed 2 weeks being hospitalized, and told me there was nothing I could do and would just have to take an F. In 4 years college I took 50 classes, with A's in 46 of them and this was my only F.
She moves at an EXTREMELY fast rate, almost as if you are expected to understand all of the information prior to coming to class. If you don't use the study plan and take the practice exam, you more than likely won't pass her exams. I am currently taking Managerial Accounting and absolutely love it, which I wouldn't have expected after this class.
Moves at a very fast pace for an intro class, talks as though everyone immediately understands everything. Hope you're good with technology, you'll need it.
took intro to financial accounting online. thought she was very helpful and many opportunities to get points. pay attention and you will do very well. attend class to get participation points. highly recommend her.
Just pay attention during class and watch the videos she sends to you & you should be fine. One homework assignment every week, 3 tests, and participation points during every class. Easy A. I missed at least 5 classes (that's about 20 points) & still finished with an A-
Wendy is perf! I took Accounting with her online and it was easy, you definitely had to work for a good grade, but it was easy. There was homework due every Saturday night, 3 exams, the final and an extra credit assignment that added 2% to your final grade. She was always available for help and she is sooo nice!!
You get graded in the class for your participation during her lectures with answering the daily quiz questions. Each exam has 5 practice exams that generate some of the exact questions on the actual exam. Study from these practice exams and the tests are simple to complete. All are in the "PearsonLabs" format.
Get ready to fly through class, in a bad way. She goes entirely too fast through all of her lectures and nothing is super clear. She seems like a nice lady but she could use a little patience with her teaching style. The only thing I liked was you could attend class online or in person. If you don't do either though, good luck.
I didn't take her in class and watched all of her lectures online. She's very nice and is willing to help if you need it. The class was hard, and the exams were hard too if you don't have background in accounting. I went to a tutor and passed with a B!
Tietz is very nice, but her class is so DIFFICULT. I'm not the best at math, but I normally can catch on very quickly but not with her and her teaching tactics. Her test are very hard, so study as much as possible. Get a tutor. Do your homework on time.
Professor Tietz cares about her students and she has a passion for teaching. This class is VERY hard for non-Accounting major students. She goes very fast in lectures without making things easier to understand before moving on. She's also very repetitive (in a boring way). The in-class quizzes aren't hard but the homework and exams are very hard.
For an intro to financial accounting class, I have no idea why this course was so incredibly difficult. I showed up to every lecture, did every homework, studied for every exam and still only managed to scrape by with a 77 in the class.
Don't take this teacher if you want someone who gives feedback right away or who is understanding of the criteria. She doesn't have any sympathy for students and won't give any partial credit for anything.
Homework due every Saturday. Class is very simple, but the tests are very hard. Just buy the codes. Start the extra credit early. Whats great is if you wake up late you can attend class virtually. She does in class ?'s every class, so you have to attend. She gives the answers out for the in class ?'s , so easy points. Do all 5 practice tests.
talks WAY too fast. sounds like she can barely breathe she's talking so fast sometimes
I've had my share of challenging professors before, but she is well, so frustratingly bad. has horrible time management. blathers on and on in her lectures because she really doesnt know how to teach the material herself. could care less about you. if you email her, you'll get a curt reply. Well I think you get the picture
The worst teacher I have ever had. Her lectures are not clear, and goes off intangible and talks a million miles a second. Is not organized. Will not help you whatsoever.
No sympathy for the students. Plain and simple. Take the night class.
Get ready to spend 2+ hours every week just on the online homework that is due on Saturdays. To date I have spent 25+ hours on the homework's. Beyond frustrating. Her lectures are a mess. Gives daily in class quizzes. Only reason I am passing is because she offers practice exams that are exactly like the real exam.
Tietz is a good professor, it's just that you all are too lazy or dumb to understand accounting. Accounting is a tough subject that takes a lot of time to grasp. Take the practice tests 5 times and write down the questions you got wrong. Study those. The questions on the practice test are nearly identical to the one's on the real test. Sheesh.
She's a great professor being that shes teaching both an in class section and an online one at the same time. If you don't want to go attend the in class lecture, you can attend online. Daily in-class quizzes that are super easy. Do the practice exams all 5 times and you will get a 90+ on the 3 exams. homework's due every Saturday. Take Wendy!!
Tietz is a great professor who makes you work and study for your grade (the horror). Do the study plan and practice exams and you will get above a 90 on all three exams. I'm in the lecture but attend online. It's an easy class if you're willing to put in a little bit of work. Her homework videos basically give you the answers. Highly recommend.
First off the Friday class is just a tutoring session so you don't have to go. Second I received an (F) on the first exam, a (D) on the second, and after calculations if I receive a 57 on the third exam I WILL PASS THE CLASS. Yes there is homework every week but you can take is as many times as you want. So to pass this class DUE THE HOMEWORK!!!!!!
Honestly you don't have to go to class you can watch from bed like I did every morning. The tests have a cheat sheet, and you get practice tests with the exact same questions that will be on the test.
I am not exaggerating with this rating. She refuses to round up grades, tests seemed impossible, she got grumpy. All I wanted to do was understand accounting and she mad that difficult. Hard class for non-accountants. Tough early in morning. Watching online never worked for me. Showed up every week but got bad grade.
Daily quizzes every class, but lowest 3 dropped at end of semester. Seldom offers extra credit, had to retake her class and one sem had EC while the other didn't. Class basically graded by 3 exams, doesn't offer curves or ANY rounding on any assignment. Gave it a 5 difficulty, I had to retake it after failing by less than 1% and she didn't round up
Upon embarking on this interesting educational journey with her, I had made the Presidents List 4 times. Dean's once. Not bragging, that's the product of many great teachers over the years that taught me good study skills. But, there's something wrong when I got my first C with her and studied 20 hrs a week for just this class. So unhelpful. avoid
Hardest class Ive taken so far in college. She moves incredibly fast and it is super hard to learn. Any emails you send come back with a general auto reply which is not helpful. I dont know how anyone can learn anything when she moves so fast and jumpy and all over the place. She does not make sure we understand the material before she moves on.
talks too fast and all over the place.
Professor Tietz is not for everyone. She teaches at a fast pace and tends to jump from topic to topic. 3 multiple choice/short answer exams. Homeworks weekly and class is mandatory as there are quizzes almost daily. Material can be confusing at times, but she provides only videos to walk your through HW. Textbook needed!
She was honestly the worst professor I have ever had. Talks so fast, and breezes through the material on a daily basis. Her email replies are snippy and short. Avoid her
The positives about Tietz are, that there are practice exams you can do over and over and the preparation benefits you come exam time. The negatives are she is never available to students. Is haughty. Condescending. very short in her email replies. Has no respect for students and talks at speed of lightening, to mask she cant teach and relay info
I do not recommend this woman to anyone. She cannot relay information well. Cannot teach. Does not gauge whether the class follows her content. Took me a while to grasp why. Well, I am sure she knows she cannot teach accounting, and wants to compensate for that by zipping through so no one will ask her anything and expose the ineptness.
She is not what I would call a conscientious professor. Most professors teach with love and to motivate students. She does neither. Her email replies are one sentence and blunt with no courtesy. Not approachable. Questions are beneath her. Doesn't care about your performance. Never says does that make sense like most profs do. She cannot teach
She is the hardest teacher ever, goes through things very fast. When it comes down to tests the practice tests help a lot but when you go to take the test they HARD, she gives a note sheet for the test but it does not help one bit! Not a good teacher at all, avoid her.
I truly do not understand the bad reviews on Prof Tietz. Yes, the homeworks are sometimes long, but she links videos to them that literally walk you through each problem. She provides practice exams and extra questions to study for the exams and if you do them you'll get an A on the exam. She cares immensely about students and accounting.
She does I really great job with homework, she shows you exactly how the problem is solved in her videos and you have to solve almost exactly the same problem on your homework. She is really informative in her field and her lectures are okay but fast, but her tests are hard!!! Most of the the class is composed of Pearson fyi
Wendy gets a bad rep, but really isn't too bad. Exams are 60% of your grade, no curves, no round-ups, no extra credit. What you earn is what you get. The ability to view class online, from my bed, was awesome. If I physically had to attend class 3x per week, my rating would be lower. Lectures dry and boring. Homework is excessive but doable.
Wendy Tietz was pretty good. Tests were really tough though, you really had to study, and there were always a couple curve balls in the exam that you kind of had to guess. Just make sure you take a lot of time to study before exams and you'll do fine.
Dr. Tietz is very passionate about accounting and uses different aids like snapchat and Instagram for the class to make it interactive. You can attend the class online, but you have to log in to the class to make sure you get the points for the quizzes that she has set up in the middle of class. Make sure you do the homework. They help on tests.
Exams are worth a big portion of your grade and are pretty tough. I went to office hours a few times and she was very willing to help me figure out how to improve and was encouraging. Lots of homework that helps reviewing and practicing for exams.
Dr. Tietz was a good financial accounting professor was clear cut and to the point on notes. All notes are posted on blackboard. Pop quizzes every day in class but she basically spoils the answer during class so those are easy. Homework is easy, she attaches a video to help with homework. Do and study the 5 pract. test. Will get good grade
Wendy really wants us to succeed. There is online hw due every week, but she posts videos on how to do it so its not that bad. If you take the practice exams all 5 times and read the textbook, there is no reason you cant get an A. You do have to attend class because she does in class quiz questions, but she almost always gives you the answer.
Wendy was the sweetest teacher I've ever had at Kent. She offered extra credit and helped with homework. She truly wanted every student to pass and tries really hard to help everyone. The subject is boring but she knows it really well and helps make it interesting.
even though theres a mandatory time for the class, it was worth taking because its so easy! every class, theres a quiz which was taken during her lectures. she would always tell you the answers to the quiz. theres hw every week & its really easy because theres examples of how to do them. she also gives out extra credit at the end semester
Wendy Tietz is an amazing teacher. If you sit up front in her class and really take the time to learn the material, you will be golden for the class. She is ALWAYS replying to emails and is very helpful outside of class. She gives you tips on how to pass the class at the beginning of the year and helps you through daily in class quizzes.
I really don't understand some of the bad reviews. She is such a good professor. Homework and quizzes are so easy because she makes step by step videos. She gives you the option to come to class or access the online version of the course. She replies to emails quickly. You always know where you stand in the class grade wise.
Dr. Tietz is an amazing professor. If you are looking at the reviews, look at the more recent ones because I think she recently changed the structure of her class to make it more doable for her students. Class is online or in person. She is so helpful and is always there for you if you have a question. I have an A and never taken accounting! :)
You can just attend class online even if you sign up for in person. Assignment due twice a week manageable you just have to do it. Tests every other week taking online without proxi so youll be fine. DSM suck tho so make sure u take time to do those
If you want a good grade in this class, youre going to have to grind it out. Homeworks are worth 50% of your grade, and though she assigns a lot of it you wont regret doing them in the end. Also, attend class through collaborate because those LC points can help too. Not having to show up was very convenient. Overall dont slack and youll be good
Professor Tietz is a kind person who cares how you are doing in the class and wants everyone to do well. Her lectures get a bit dry and while the homework is helpful in learning the material, I felt like some of it was busy work. Overall, I learned a lot and the class wasn't bad if you put the time and effort into it.
I took Introduction to Financial Accounting with Wendy Tietz. While she isn't as intellectually gifted as many other professors within the College of Business Administration, her class is an easy A. If you wish to seek help in regard to the course material, seek a tutor. Don't bother visiting her during office hours. She's no help.
Tietz makes Intro to Accounting way harder than it should be. I don't understand why an intro class should consist of anything like the way she makes it. I once tried visiting her office hours and all I can say is, what a joke. Unwilling to help and extremely condescending. Thank God her exams are only worth 25% because they impossible.
The worst professor I have had thus far at Kent. She is rude and unwilling to help. Her exams are nothing like lectures, exercises, quizzes, or homework, and are nearly impossible. Avoid her class. Take with a different professor if you can.
If I could rate this lady a 0, I would. Condescending, rude, and unwilling to help. Worst online class I have ever taken, and I would NOT recommend taking a class with her. I'm so furious at how she cannot be polite and helpful in an email when I have questions. Just tells you to follow the instructions given.
I took this class over the summer and it was absolutely ridiculous. Compared to my friend that is taking the same class this fall semester, she assigned two times the amount of homework during the entire summer semester. A lot of her lecture videos didn't fully explain the expectations for a handful of assignments and didn't provide help when asked
Ridiculous amount of homework each week, and learning more so comes from videos she posts rather than actual lectures
I get that Accounting can be hard subject, but there is absolutely no reason why there should be 4, sometimes 5, HW assignments AND a quiz every single week. This class takes up 80% of my time, causing me to neglect my other classes. You will need to dedicate at least 12-15 hours a week on this class to get at least a B in the class.
Not enough time to take the exams, uses too many different programs to complete class, responds to emails very impersonally, way too many weekly assignments
Easily the most useless class I've ever taken. It is so easy to do the least possible work in this class and learn absolutely nothing. Multiple homework assignments every thursday, friday, and saturday with no exceptions. Nothing good came out of this class.
I liked the class because it was a hybrid class and you have the option to watch the lectures online and all the exams are online. There's a lot of homework and the class moves kind of fast so it can be hard to keep up if you don't pay attention one week.
The most organized professor I have ever experienced. She if very clear about what is expected of you. If you put in the work, you will at least get a B. The only bad things about the class are the WIKI projects.
Profesor Tietz is amazing, she truly has a vast amount of knowledge in accounting. She encourages students, and sets clear criteria. She is an exceptional professor, its lots of work but definitely worth it!
Prof. Tietz is a very sweet person who actually cares about her students. However, there is too much homework and exams for an intro course. There is an exam almost every other week and it is hard to keep up and do well. The homework (although time consuming) is pretty easy. Exams are difficult but don't hurt your grade much (4% each).
Professor Tietz is an amazing teacher very nice however, the amount of homework for a entry level class is outrageous. Tests are very difficult compared to homework and excel projects. Hybrid class was nice even if you didnt want to get up early you could watch lecture later for points. Be prepared to do lots of homework its 50% of your grade.
I would not recommend if you are not willing to do a lot of work. I suppose it could benefit you in the future, but I learned nothing. There's a chance it would be better to take in-person! I had online and there was just a lot. There is a group project and do it EARLY! Because of the corona we only had to do one part, but if there wasn't ope..
TBH I put in MINIMAL effort even missing two weeks of assignments which you is a lot bc there are SO many assignments. I did not even know there were lectures for the first half of the semester yet still managed a B-. Don't be scared of this class!!
Very challenging class; lots of homework, Learning Catalytic, Exams, and quizzes. My best advice is to sit down for a couple of hours in the first week of classes and stay a week ahead with homework. That is literally the only way you will do well in this class. The lectures are informative but can be confusing at times. Not a bad professor though.
Dr. Tietz was a really discouraging professor to have as an Accounting major. I feel that this class was very rushed when being made because there are a lot of errors that were made in the lectures and homework that she did not see. She would also talk about accounting topics like we already knew what they were which got really confusing.
Wendy Tietz is an easy teacher that gives a lot of work. The work is not hard but there is always a lot of it. Be prepared for exams as they can be a bit more challenging.
She has lots of mandatory participation points. THERE ARE NON STOP EMAILS AND TEXTS FROM HER, she emails daily. lots of homework, quizzes and exams. Class overall is easy.
She is absolutely amazing 25% of your grade is based off exams so you could basically fail every exam and still pass with a C. The rest of the class is homework's and attendance. Her homework is a ton of busy work so you might have 5 questions due but they all have like three parts to them.
can just watch recordings
Wendy is a very nice lady, but her class is not taught very well. it is very confusing to understand because she does the homework in class for units that we have not yet learned. If you like to work a week or two ahead, this is the class for you.
Wonderful professor! Take her if you can!
There is lots of homework every week, but they are easy! Take her if you can!
I took Intro to Financial Accounting with Professor Tietz. Overall she is a nice professor. She cares about her students and teaches well. The class itself is not super difficult, but there is a TON of homework. There are assignments due every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, that take at least an hour to complete. The exams are also slightly hard.
Took her for financial accounting online and it was really easy. She assigns a lot of homework but it's not hard, as long as you don't get behind on the homework you'll be fine
Professor Tietz is by far the best professor that Ive had! She gives easy step by step instructions. Lots of assignments throughout each week but you will learn a lot. She is kindhearted ad very thorough. Even if you are not a business major, Youll still learn a ton of valuable information that you can apply to your daily life. Take this course!!
Dr. Tietz is probably the most thorough online professor I have ever had. She knows how to teach online, which is more than I can say for any of my other profs. She responds quickly and is decently lenient with late work. I have received one or two condescending emails from her, but she still is dedicated to teaching her students.
Probably one of my favorite professors. She actually cares for her students and wants to help them succeed. Lots of homework but it is very easy because she has videos walking you through each problem.
There is a lot of assignments, but they are honestly self-explanatory. Watch the video lectures and you will pass. It is honestly a super easy class, there is just a bit of busy work due three times a week. She also has an automatic 24 hr grace period, but do not completely take advantage of that, or else you will forget to do assignments
I am taking Professor Tietz for Accounting this year and she is awesome. She is by far the nicest professor I have ever had, and she gives you unlimited tries on hw and quizzes to get a 100. There is a lot of homework and lectures, but if you manage your time the class is an easy A and she's a great person.
I am honestly surprised at all the negative reviews Dr. Tietz has gotten. There was a lot of assignments but they are short and very well explained. Most quizzes can be retaken for a better score. I feel like I learned a lot in this class about accounting and very much enjoyed all of it. Also a very good class if you like to work ahead.
She was great! My grade would've been higher if I did better in the beginning. She offered so much extra credit in the last weeks of class. Easy A if you apply yourself.
The ratings on here do her no justice at all. She is a very sweet and kind professor. The class itself isn't too hard as she guides you. A bit homework heavy, but that makes sense considering that homework accounts for 60% of your grade. Final is just another non proctored multi chapter (Accounts for less than 10%). Polling Questions for Attendence
She is a nice lady, however, she is NOT a good professor. She is confusing and gives SO SO SO much homework. Be prepared to give hours and hours a week to this class. She is not good at explaining accounting and makes it way harder than necessary. Don't take her class.
She's very nice and clearly explains the Excel homework and other assignments. There were only a couple of times that I got confused during class, but was able to understand the concepts by looking at the book. I really enjoyed the data visualization projects and found the skills learned from them to be very useful in other classes.
class itself is not hard at all its just a lot of assignments that are pretty easy. some stuff makes absolutely no sense and the lectures are pointless imo. the only thing that is worth watching it is the polling questions for credit and the excel homework is explained thoroughly. tbh i won't remember a single thing from this class when i am done
Took Advanded Managerial Acct & in beginning of class, everything is easy & ok. Hit middle of semester, hw hard understand & her tiny videos didn't help u learn any of it. Learn thru error or hope someone else knows how & doesn't explain hw thru CGMA site (credit=complete Bus Simulation) & final open only 36 hrs=bad for ppl w/ life outside of class
Wendy is one of the easiest professors i have ever had. she has polling questions that are worth points. she does give you an opportunity to do those with the recordings as well. a lot of HW but everything is open book/notes. she gave multiple opportunities for extra credit as well. very easy going professor.
Professor Tietz was a good professor. I took an online class so a lot of what we did was independent but the times I needed help she would answer right away. The lectures were very easy and so were the homework's.
She's a nice lady but her class is unnecessarily difficult. The curriculum and the system she uses to deliver it are very clunky. I'm not sure why she made an intro to accounting class so difficult.
Really nice and respectful person, very fun and upbeat every day. Very flexible with when you can start and turn in work. The work wasn't overly difficult for the most part. Biggest issue is the shear amount of work you get. On average you get 3-4 assignments due every Monday Wednesday and Friday. Like I said it wasn't hard work, just lots of it.
Great teacher. Lots of assignments, but most of them were really easy. If you got decent scores in most of them you could literally skip a decent number of assignments with no negative effect to your grade. She was also really nice and engaged, as well as super easy to get a hold of outside of class time. Great teacher overall!
I'm majoring in accounting because of Dr. Tietz. She's awesome and explains everything well, is very helpful, and overall just a great professor.
Dr. Tietz is amazing! Going into this class I was a little worried because I am not an accounting major, but she made everything so easy to understand. She was always easy to reach when I needed help and was so kind with her responses! 100% recommended taking a class with her!
Lots of negative reviews, but a good professor.
Honestly a good professor. Class used My-Lab for all assignments- there are a lot but they are not too bad. Do well on most and you're set. Her lectures are amazing and go over every single assignment in detail and she is always available to help. Took the class online for more flexibility which was even better. Easy A, highly recommend Dr. Tietz
Online but don't have to attend, can watch recordings later. Multiple things due a week but alot of them have tutorial videos to help. the homework is very time consuming but since there are so many things due nothing affects your grade. Tests are worth 2%. You can get 70% on things and still do fine in the class.
Online lectures with recordings. Very homework heavy, due 3 times a week. Other than being time consuming, this was the easiest class I have ever taken. She basically explains the answer for all the hw.
HW due 3 days a week. You have to be willing to put the work in, clear class structure. She is very tech savvy and has ppt voiceover/guide videos for almost every assignment that explains the concept or even shows how to do it for excel assignments. Tight deadlines and she does NOT do extensions
Professor Tietz's class was not like any I have taken before. It is all online lecture-based and almost all of the work is covered with videos she made. The only problem I have is that there are usually around 10 assignments a week. None of them are extremely difficult and I probably never spent more than 3 hours in a week, but they do get tedious.
Very kind and understanding. There are a lot of assignments, but due to such low-weight exams, it is a sacrifice I will make. The frequent assignments become slightly tedious, but she provides step-by-step tutorials for pretty much everything. Exams and quizzes will all be problems exactly as a homework just with different numbers.
She's awesome. A lot of work but has a tutorial for everything she does. Stay on top of your work and pace it out.
Professor Tietz's class is very manageable, with lots of homework but straightforward content. The online lectures are helpful, and she's great at explaining things. Using unstuck ai alongside the course materials really helped me stay on top of the workload.
Very difficult. She gives an insane amount of assignments every week it's terrible. You spend your entire week doing accounting no time for other courses. She also is just not a great teacher she tries to go through so much material you don't learn anything or how to actually do accounting your just trying to keep up with her.
I do not understand how I am expected to attend class lectures twice a week AND have 4+ hours of homework due every week as well that just reteach what we ALREADY LEARNED IN CLASS to an excessive amount. I do not need to do the same process 10 separate times to learn it. Absurd amount of work which would be ok if this class was more than 3 credits.
So many assignments every week and just not an amazing teacher. She goes over things robotically then gives you tests expecting you to know just as much as she does. The tests are super difficult for the amount you actually learn. Again so many assignments each week it's awful. Would never take her class again.
Hws every day with a 24hr grace period. Attend class and pay attention to questions or watch recordings and answer them. She gives the answer right after the question. Do the hws and exercises, the quizzes have the same questions. And multi-chap quizzes are only 2% of your grade with lowest dropped. Everything has a tutorial and multiple tries!
She is a great professor and very knowledgable. It can be little confusing to follow her teaching procedures, but she included very clear step by step instruction in every single assignments and homeworks. Students need to pay attention otherwise they can easily fall behind and not graded as satisfied. It was the best online class I've ever taken.
Dr. Tietz is awesome!! Don't let her syllabus scare you!!! I promise its not as complicated or hard as it may seem. She cares about her students and she will always walk you through everything.
Lots of assignments but they all have how to videos. Really nice lady
Take this course online if you can. She is a very very sweet professor and genuinely cares for students but everything is posted online and the only point to class is if you have questions, but attendance is mandatory for a grade, even though everything is online. She is great with helping if you are confused and overall a great professor though!!
If you have any experience with accounting this class is very easy and self explanatory. 70% of the final grade is homework, she has videos on how to do each homework question. Also the exams are all online and do it by yourself and she cancels the lecture the day the exam is due. Overall very easy class just takes time to complete assignments.
This professor is very kind and attentive to her students and will often help in any way possible. Most of your grade will be homework and in class surveys. Everything is very straightforward once you figure out the online portal.
Every assignment was posted on an external portal that "kind of" worked, and there were a whole lot of assignments. When I got stuck behind in class because many assignments were not accessible and many due dates were appearing incorrectly, her response could be summarized as "that's rough, do better I guess."
I took this as a 6 week summer course and unless you have at LEAST 10-15 hours a week to spend strictly on accounting don't bother taking this class. There is so much information and homework assignments to the point where I don't think I have retained anything. I spent 99% of my time playing catch up- you can never get ahead.
Don't take her. Very rude in her emails when asking for help. Not sure why. Course isn't very hard, though.
The syllabus may look overwhelming at first, however, don't be discouraged. It is very straightforward. I took this class over the summer. It is very tedious but doable. You must keep up with the work to be successful. Don't get behind! Taking it online is a great decision. Dr. Tietz's videos were easy to follow and explained the material clearly.
Professor Tietz relies very heavily on the use of AI for her course. The entire class is based on MyLab. She also does not have any online office hours available for the entire semester and will respond to messages using ai without actually reading. Lastly you will not be given an extension past the 24 hour grace period no matter the situation.
This professor is not easy to get in touch with at all. She has an AI automated email reply and does not reach out after that email is sent. She does not have any available office hours which is very inconvenient for her online students. She also talks way too much about her cats during Zoom meetings.
You will be doing hours of MyLab homeworks and quizzes every week. You must attend (or watch) every single lecture because there's mandatory questions to fill out for points. The content isn't hard but it is so repetitive and sleep inducing that the class itself is hard to get through. Strict deadlines on all of the work. She loves to use AI.
Very easy class but you learn very little due to her teaching style. Reverse lecture style so you watch videos and do practice problems to learn the material and go over practice problem in class which I hated. She also provides answers at the end of each video assignment. She drops a lot of grades too. Everything is done through a website.
