Laziness does not make Turgeon a bad teacher! she was great!
Nice person, horrible teacher. Very confusing, hard tests
NICE LADY, FAIR TEACHER. THE CLASS IS INTERESTING ONLY IF YOU GET IN TO IT AND THINK A LITTLE. TURGEON WORKS HARD TO MAKE THE COURSE INTERESTING. YOU GET TO WATCH THE MOVIE A FEW GOOD MEN-GREAT MOVIE. IF YOU HAVE TO TAKE THE CLASS I WOULD RECOMMEND HE

very cool lady and good teacher, take her class!
Good teacher,nice lady
Good teacher, hard tests but u just need to study and keep up with the readings. Fair paper grader and let's you make up quizzes. I would recommend her.
Great lady. interesting class discussions. But you do have to study test are hard
No Comments
Very nice and very intelligent but the fact that shes intelligent makes her tests kind of complicated, but it wasn't too bad. Philosophy isn't exactly the most interesting subject around, but she makes it bearable
Great teacher! She made phi interesting.I loved going to this class.
Definitely made philosophy interesting but the class was also very hard
Complicated tests, but basically a very nice, knowledgeable professor.
Very inflexible and unclear.
She's a great teacher, very knowledgeable. Tests are hard...You have to read everything thoroughly and study for the tests. Worth taking.
She's very clear, gets the students VERY engaged in philosophy. I walked into the class shaking, fearing the thought processes of Plato and others. Papers and tests are difficult, but doesn't take away from the fact that the class is fun!
Great professor, very smart person. Her tests are definitly challenging but reading the text will make them more managable.
She is an excellant professor. A lot of readings but you don't really have to do any of them because she goes over them in class so you can understand them better. Barely any writing (2 short papers), fair quizzes.
She is very unfair and very unclear about what she wants. She grades very hard and doesn't have a grading system. I feel she just gives you what she feels like giving you no matter what you write. She also gives ALOT of work. Don't take her!!!!!
i have to admit this class was a little boring but she was a really good professor....but it was a hard class with all the reading
Prof. Turgeon was a very good professor. The subject itself is a little difficult and at time dry, but she's more than willing to spend as much time as you need on a topic. Her tests aren't that bad as long as you study. I would definetely recommend her!
Very nice lady, Made stuff clear *during class* but *tests* were very hard and unclear. Make sure ur ready to study, or dont bother taking this.
Very nice woman, offered a lto fo help. But, her tests were very, very difficult and tricky. Not a lot of work, but hard grading
Intelligent lady - definitely knew her stuff, but the tests were tricky and sometimes difficult. Be prepared to study and read!
Very cool lady. Reasonable and a good class to take. Def recommend her. Tests are not too hard and you dont even have to read b/c she goes over everything in class. Good Teacher- Very smart
She's a great teacher and person. You will learn a lot from her, even if you think the subject is boring. Good professor for your cores. Tests are difficult, but nothing is hidden. She explicitly goes over everything in detail so it's hard not to understand the material. Read and study.
GREAT TEACHER. DEF RECOMMEND HER. TESTS NOT THAT BAD. NOT THAT HARD OF READING.
she's a great teacher. she makes everything really clear, and if you don't understand something, she will make sure you do. the class discussions are really interesting too, and she's an easy grader.
She was such a nice lady. We did a lot of reading and discussing...discussions in class were great! However, her tests and quizzes are tricky. She doesnt go over textbook detail in class but puts that stuff on her tests!!
i hated the class, struggled to stay awake. it was a mandatory philosophy class that im glad is over. she didn't reach out shes very boring and plain, blech.
i HATED this class very much. i thought it sounded like it was going to be intereting but it def. wasnt and it was just so hard. i studied for hours for her midterm and still got a bad grade because her tests are very tricky. DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS CLASS AT ALL!

I liked Prof. Turgeon. The class was boring as hell but I thought she did a great job of teaching ethics and I found the class extremely easy. It's only 2 papers and 2 or 3 tests. I got an A so you should take a philosophy class with her!
loved both classes...a lot of discussion, not much for going over the text stuff, but that's a lot due to the class...easy to get involved...tests are a bit tough, but if you read and ask her if you don't understand something, you'll do well...definitely recommended.
she was a very nice lady but the class was extremely hard, she made you seem like you were understading the information and then when you took the test you were totally lost, def. dont recommend it!!!!!!!!!!!
Shes a nice lady who tries to make ethics fun *which is really hard* .. she cracks jokes that arent funny - but overall the classwasnt to hard - 2 short papers and i think 3 tests ... just do your readings . she gives pop quizzes on them
corky but fun
nice lady, boring class. Gives Pop quizzes, 2 papers.
boring
Professor Turgeon is so smart and cute. She has high standards (since when is that a bad quality in a professor?!) She is always impeccably dressed and completely professional. I really became a better student this semester thanks to her.
I love her, she is so nice and so sweet. she really tries to help her students and i love her clothes. the class is kind of boring but she makes it more fun and we have a lot of discussions which makes it better than textbook work. i did learn alot from her.
she's kinda dry and boring. but sometimes the debates can be interesting. she is not too bad of a grader and doesnt make absents a big deal, only when u miss a group project. try and stay awake and you can learn a lot. i reccommend her.
You can tell Prof. Turgeon definitly has a passion for what she does. She gives out study guides for each section, but doesnt give a lot of notes, you have to take your own if you want to do well in the class. Theres a test every unit.. its short so its hard to get a good grade..Final is like all of the tests. A LOT OF READINGS!! Very hard to pass
She can be nice at times, but she's a little spacey. The textbook doesnt make sense. If you like debating useless things, and if you enjoy the discussion of illogical dialog then this class is perfect for you. I wrote a really good paper and she gave me a C. i talked to her about it and she let me redo it, made it 11 pages, and she gave me a B
I ABSOLUTELY HATE HER! she is the worst teacher in the world.. not only is she extremely boring but she is the hardest grader! she give you a lot of projects and the tests/quizzes are really hard! she is out to get you because she knows they are hard, and she will tell you. i REGRET taking this class and i recommend you not tooo. STAY AWAY!
>Loved< this class. She made a lot of sense and I enjoyed it very much. It's only tough if you don't have a willingness to read and/or work. She doesn't even assign a lot to read or write. It really was interesting.
I really enjoy her. Not only do I like how she encourages everyday discussions, she joins in. She's a little quirky but she obviously knows what she is talking about. I recommend her because she realizes that you have a life outside of the classroom and respects that.
Turgeon was awful. She was never precise in her instructions. She did not like the closeness of my class and wanted to make philosophy more boring than it already is. She questioned everything and believed that she was the only person with the right answer. Her term paper was awful because she changed her mind all the time.
I HATED THIS COURSE! She was nice but she could nevr make up her mind. Every class was a discussion on 1 thing or another and they all went back 2 1 thing- who decides what is right or wrong! I like philosophy before this class and now i hate it! STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS!!!
never precise in the instruction, jipsie with grades, flea market is down the road maybe can get a job there
Horrible teacher, she expects way too much out of her students...her test are hard, and she grades unfairly. I would not recommend her at all. She doesn't stop talking and she holds you the whole class time, and will talk extra just so she keeps you there.
This class was difficult. The quizzes and tests were challenging. However, I loved it and I think she was a very nice person too. I would have like a better grade, but I truly looked forward to going to the class and we had some really good discussions. She truly did care about the individual and did not act as if her degree makes her a better pers
Great Professor...she really knows how to spark a great discussion. She is challenging...but then again it is college.....
Quizzes were fair - we went over all info during reviews. She's great, although she seems a bit too professional. She did curse a few times though... love that HAHA.
i really enjoyed this class, only one paper, and quizzes but she does them through a grab bag...it was an easy class. she is very understanding and helpful
Had her for this & 230. Great prof but yes, can be too formal at times and will comes off as rude (but not in discussion, only in "business" talk about tests, papers, etc.) During discussions, she's thorough & clear & rarely implies her own views, which is important. Quizzes and tests are cake as long as you're there for review. Gotta do the readin
I think contrary to what everyone in my class believed, she was a good teacher. Very fair in her way of doing things, and if you explained rather than demanded, she was open to different opinions. The research paper was a pain but it was required in every SJC section. Although the final was a bit much, it was take home. Overall a good teacher.
Brilliant Professor, Take her if you can. It's hard work but you will learn a lot about Ethics. Tough Grader on papers but exams are easy and reviews are thorough.
This is more of a philosophy class than ethics though at the end you do discuss ethical issues. The tests simple but few questions so can't get too many wrong. Puts some notes on blackboard which help a lot for some readings. Quizzes (so easy. open notes), couple of exams, midterm, paper and final. Group presentations too. Pretty simple.
Nice Lady, but a lot of work.. Also, the tests are EXTREMELY difficult. She is a help, and seems to be passionate about her topic. Just be ready for hard tests and a lot of difficult readings, as well as a chance of a quiz every class.
the worst ethics teacher in the history of the world, expects too much out of her students. thinks that she is the only class that we have work for. probably gives about 15 hours of work a week for a class that visits twice. and will never let you out early. also snaps at you when you ask a question. rudest professor on campus at SJC. NEVER TAKE HE
Be prepared to do a TON of work and reading, with possibility of popquiz at beg. of each class. Way overwhelming! Too many things to keep up with that are part of grade besides tests and quizzes. Also final paper, a group presentation, posting responses on various outside websites... I repeat! DON'T TAKE if u already have a challenging courseload!
Yes there is a workload but if you keep on top of it, its manageable. Class discussions were interesting. She will help you if you ask for it.
Professor Turgeon is the best. She gets you passionate about ethics and makes you think about what's right and wrong. Definitely going to take more classes with her.
Lots of reading, occasionally gave quizzes on the reading, lectures were SUPER boring. Despite this, Turgeon is a really friendly person who is always willing to discuss the material and any submitted work. The lectures are just super bland!
Great class but a LOT of reading. All of the readings are interesting but make sure you keep them organized. Tests are easy as long as you study, the work you put in will be what you receive. She can get slightly boring, but if you participate the class is not as bad!
I think that she is the epitome of what a professor should be like. She is absolutely incredible... She is so clear and comprehensive with her lectures, she would be willing to help anyone. I was confused and frustrated so she noticed and stayed after to basically give me the entire lecture again - no hesitation. She is the GREATEST!
knows her stuff, lectures sometimes a bit dry. Fair, prepared and kind. will work with you and giving of her time. Smart lady. interesting class. Loves to have active class participation. Great discussions.
One of the hardest classes I have ever taken. Even with showing up and doing all the readings I could not score above a 75 on any of the tests. She has "fate quizzes" every class where she has a student pull a lifesaver out of a bag and if its a certain color the class has a pop quiz. It's the worst thing in the world, this class ruined my GPA
Tough class. I don't particularly like the "pick an orange lifesaver out of the bag and the class gets a quiz" everyday routine. The class was expected to read long tedious readings every class along with write a 6 page essay. This class is a dream for any philosophy major, for the professor is very enthusiastic about the material. TOUGH CLASS!
This class was required for my degree had I had known what sort of teaching style this professor had, I would've dropped this class or opted for a different professor. I find that coursework isn't that bad it's more so her grading technique and if you disagree with her she tells you that you're wrong. She's narcissistic and very opinionated.
Professor Turgeon is super sweet, but her class can be a bit of work. Every day before class she has someone pick a piece of candy out of a bag and if it is a certain color the class as a pop quiz. That being said she is usually very lenient and doesn't make it hard to pass.
The most uninteresting class I have ever taken. I do not recommend this professor She gives pop quizzes, assigns a bunch of readings and assignments. I took her class on zoom at 8am and she always breaks us into groups for no reason. She will call on you randomly so be aware of that.
Dr Turgeon is a great professor. Took a 7 week course with her and it was tough but definitely worth it. She gives good feedback too. You have to participate through out the week regularly which can be a lot if you have other classes as well, but she's understanding. Really knowledgeable
She's so nice welcoming and understanding if you need any accommodations. When I took her class it was originally hybrid but we went a full remote. The readings were long but she gave a lot of materials on a canvas to help. The only classwork was discussions and journals which were easy. Overall, the sweetest lady ever and great for PHI-160.
The class is not for the faint of heart. Turgeon provides the tools for you to excel and promotes critical discussion/debate. Take advantage of it. Most importantly: READ THE MATERIAL. Formulate your own understanding of the work prior to class lest you be assigned discussion questions on that topic.
Professor Turgeon is a very tough grader. You have to do a lot of reading in the course and need to be able to have your whole week open each week for classwork. There are two mandatory tests. People who work full time, try another course if possible.
Dr. Turgeon is passionate about ethics and provides helpful materials on canvas. The class itself is just not what I expected. There is a lot to do especially towards the end of the semester. The final exam is both cumulative and has new info that we didn't even have time to discuss in class. If you actually do the work you'll pass it's just a lot.
If you are actually into the subject of the course youll enjoy her. Otherwise, you will hate going every week.
Turgeon is nice enough, but there is a condescending tone when you present different viewpoints that aren't atheistic, liberal, or against the narrative. It didn't affect my grades, she disagreed with me on my term paper but I still got a 95. Long as you remain objective, you're good. Quizzes can hurt if you don't do well, so prepare well
Literally awesome. She wants people to understand what they are reading instead of simply expecting students to "know" the lingo of philosophy. Her powerpoints are super clear and have all of the information on her quizzes. Just do the journals. They really help! We were given the dates of every quiz and plenty of time to prepare as well.
If you dont like ethics, I dont recommend taking her. She doesnt teach it in the most interesting way; her lectures are somewhat monotone. Shes caring and understanding, but the readings are hard and she doesnt always explain them in the best way. Shes a tough grader but not unfair.
prof turgeon is not for you if you dont like philosophy. she lectures the whole class which can be boring if you dont find the material interesting. if you can pay attention, its not that bad. she is fair when grading but you have to try. since nobody really participates she will lecture pretty much the whole time and she will call on you
weekly discussions graded very difficult, tests were very confusing. She did offer extra credit to boost our grades. But this was because I assume many people were doing bad because of how hard this class was. Definitely not worth it for a 100 level course.
She is really nice and will help you if you need, but for online classes she expects you to post basically everyday. The work is alright but tests sometimes make no sense. If you read the book and watch her videos you'll be fine. If you aren't into ethics then you won't like this class
Professor Turgeon is a nice lady, but her lectures can be very heavy and boring. She will speak for the whole duration of the class. Read the materials or else you will be completely lost. Pop quizzes were based on if a student pulls a green candy from a bag. Two papers and a group presentation which was not terrible. Try to stay focused.
I dreaded this class every single day I had to go. Professor Turgeon is a nice woman, but all she does is talk and she gets sidetracked very easily. Her lectures are very confusing and hard to follow. We had one essay and she does allow you to rewrite it, but I can assure you that your grade will not go up by much since nothing seems to please her.
Horrible professor. Makes discussions due Sunday night but then takes several points off if you do all the questions on Sunday. She gave me a B on my essay because she did not agree with my opinion. Very tough grader and does not treat the class as a 100 level class. Would never take again and will be avoiding for any future classes.
Cycle A course, so it was very demanding. Dr. Turgeon is knowledgable about the material and very helpful. Video lectures to help with readings. Discussions are a huge part of the grade, but she participates in the boards and they are very conversational which I liked. Weekly reflection papers but she excuses you from 2. She is a fair grader.
Just don't.
Dr. Turgeon is a fantastic philosophy professor. I have taken multiple classes with Dr. Turgeon at St. Joes and would 100% recommend taking her. She lays out all of her expectations in the syllabus and if you do the reading and follow her criteria on assignment, it is easy to receive an A in all of her courses. She truly cares about her students.
Professor Turgeon is amazing, but the class is quite difficult- making the material extremely hard to follow. Wouldn't recommend taking as a freshman or if you do not enjoy learning about early religion and philosophy. 2 tests that didn't have many questions so were weighted high. Midterm and final are essays that were pretty easy to complete.
This class is extremely difficult. Lectures are confusing and hard to follow. It's like she expects us to have PhDs in philosophy. I did worse here than in my STEM courses. There are quizzes, a paper, and two exams. She's nice one-on-one but dismissive of concerns in class and offers little to no extra credit. The stress almost gave me an ulcer.
I have never done as bad in a class as I have for this one, I am typically a straight A student. Typically, I wasn't able get above mid 70s for the discussion posts and 80s on essays. She is very strict on the suggested day-by-day assignment timelines. I often found that what I took from the readings was not the answers she was looking for.
Dr. Turgeon is the BEST ! She is caring lovely and funny. Its hard to get a class with a professor that actually knows how to teach and makes her students enjoy. I REALLY RECOMEND HER FOR ANYONE !!!
Professor Turgeon seemed really nice, but the coursework was hard to keep up with, I felt so overwhelmed. She posts discussion boards every day, and you have to make sure you stay on top of the times she puts to respond to them. I usually keep 90s in my classes but nothing I seemed to write was what she wanted to hear, even if it was opinion-based.
I started out this semester thinking she wasn't bad. However the final paper was incredibly hard. I gave her a draft and her suggestion was to start from scratch (opinion grader). She's unclear with her grading expectations. When asked she repeats what she commented and doesn't clarify. If you try and argue your point it's like talking to a wall.
She will call you out if you are two minutes late, as well as go on your phone for five seconds. She is a tough grader!!! The journal entries are a lifesaver, and end the semester with an A, so when the final comes, it's not horrible. The study guide for the final was wrong, and there was little to nothing on the test that was in the study guide.
