Dr. Wendy will probably be the easiest biology professor you will ever take. Her lectures and labs are very straight forward. Her tests and final cover only lecture material. If you want an easy A, then just read over your lecture notes!!!!!TAKE HER!!!
this class is easy if you show up and take notes. She gives open everything quizes, and cheat sheet for the final! EASY! she is late everyday!
Great teacher - great class. Dr.Wendy is a blast. Worried about Bio? Don't be if you take her class. I'm not saying it's totally easy... just read the book, take notes, review your notes, and you'll do just fine.

great teacher even though her lectures can get awfully boring. her grading system is reasonable. not to hard to get a good grade in her class, as long as you show up and try to turn in something. take her.
Lectures tend to be alittle monotous and not class oriented in discussions. Grading system is fair, but note that even though she says tests are based on lecture notes, READ the textbook. Class was enjoyable and interesting.
I took this class 4-5 years ago and it was awesome... because my mom rocks. If you can read, pay attention, and write, you can probably take notes and read the book and therefor you can be qualified as a "good student," and that can result in you passing the class.
Awesome teacher, I highly recommend taking her class.
Her class is amazing, she is a great teacher, and funny at that. She's not like any of those other deadbeat science teachers that are hanging on by a hair.

Wow what a mistake, Class started w/ 60 ended w/ 25, Class avg for each test was mid 60's, Only late in the sem she let us use our notes for tests aftr low scrs, Monotonous lectures, Good info, bad deliv,PHD SO WHAT that doesn't mean she can teach!8test,5hmwrks,3 extrcrdt. she's a very smart teacher, but i don't get her sense of teaching. she's fair but i find her rude. not recommend this class. try to find another teacher to take bio with. you gotten work for your grade.
Heard she was easy, but she wasant. She bases all her quizes on notes, so she says, but read the book anyway because most of the stuff on the quiz isnt all from the notes! i thought i was gonna get a bad grade in this class, but when she let us use notes even though it cleary stated ALL quizes are open notes in the syllbus the class did much better
she is a really bad teacher. almost 2/3 of her class did not pass, but she does not care. she jumps around on her lectures- not in order. always late- and does not explain the concept well enought. very hard to understand. she gives too much work with so little time. highly not recommended.
She's very fair in grading. She's not a bad teacher but not a great one either. No need to avoid her or anything, but don't move your schedule around to be in her class either.
Real friendly, funny. Rude students talk & complain in the class. She has a web site for the grades; says 56 students (3W, 7A, 19B, 14C, 14D, 9F). Only about 20 went to lectures, but too crowded on the final. She makes you take labs, but you do them in a group & get most points just for writing an answer! Do labs for points & can pass the class.
I thought she was a really nice, easy, cool teacher at first. I didn't miss one class/lab for the first couple weeks. until--she gave me a zero for a lab not handed in..which i did! not only that. when we got our notebooks back, she wrote a note stating that i didn't go to one of the labs and copied someone elses lab! ugh! so be careful for this 1!
first off, if u ask her a question during one of her lectures, she will answer you like u just asked her whuts 2+2. She's rude. Her labs are extremely boring and she could care less about the 25 people who didnt pass her class last semester
In the beginning of the semester she will tell the class that last semesters final with all the answers is in front of her office, go write down every single question and answer, your final will be exactly the same!
wendy was a good teacher, very to the point, and provided students with good resources to do well on her tests
Whyte is a very easy teacher! Most of her exams are multiple choice and with a partner. She gives tons of extra credit. She does not push for a social atmosphere but this works to your advantage if you are shy.
This is a very easy class, especially for those who know some biology prior to entering this class. She allows partners for most of the exams and she gives out lots of extra credit. Most exams are open book/lap top/notes. You will pass as long as you try to absorb at least something!
She's EXTREMELY BORING! She doesn't interact with the class at all! She doesn't give a review for any tests. She does all her lectures off of power point which are available online. I feel like I might as well be taking an online class. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TAKING HER. I think all the positive comments are left by her daughter. LOL
i have her for a morning class, she's at least 10 minutes late every day (upside is that you can be late with no consequence.) no use of book AT ALL. tests every other friday & every other test is a group test. not a people person: when i asked a ? about an assignment grade she laughed in my face. i've learned nothing, boring but easy enough class.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. She's boring, you don't use the book. It's pointless. Exams are not easy, although multiple choice. Dont dare ask her a question, even if you miss a class. Participation is mandatory or she WILL take off points! DON'T TAKE IT.
She teachers off of powerpoints and you can download the powerpoints. Her class was very easy until the time it comes to tests. She does not specifically tell you what to study, but does give you a syllabus that outlines the coursework for each week. The tests are much easier than she makes them out to be and they are multiple choice.
She has no interest in helping students. her syllabus said that her office hours are not for individual student help but you can arrange a ONE TIME study session with her. I was pregnant & having contractions in the hospital. she wouldnt let me make up a test!she made attendance mandatory because people stopped coming to class because its pointless
omg. i took this class in the morning and she was always late. She was boring. she walked into class set up her labtop and talked for the little time she was there. She doesnt care about her students and isnt understanding at all. THIS CLASS IS A JOKE. shes a terrible teacher. She is rude and could care less about helping her students understand!NO
I hated her at first. But she rewards people that actually do the work. She gives SO MUCH extra credit! Stopped reading book after 3rd week. I ended up with 110% and I don't know biology at all. Lectures were BORING. Its just her talking from begining to end. Take the class if you dont need a babysitter for a teacher. Booya.
I have been taking college classes for yr.s and this is by far the worst one ever! This teacher doesn't care, doesn't even attempt to learn names, and has zero to no social skills. She limits you to one apt. with her outside of class, even if you are struggling Everything is done on comp. might as well be an online class...Should've dropped
She is by far the worst teacher ever. I was in her first class in the mornings at 8 am and she managed to show up late EVERYDAY. By the time she sets up her notes and finishes writing her useless message on the bored there is only 30 mintues left out of the 50 minute class so she then blows through all the information. I didnt learn a thing from it
Late 10 minutes everyday, takes 5+ minutes to setup, so you can expect to miss out on 15 of the 50 minute period. Flies through her lecture, jumping from place to place. Then spends the period comparing how far behind our class(8am) is to her PM class. 1/2 our first quiz was on chapters we hadn't even gotten to yet. I would steer clear.
WORST TEACHER EVER!! ALWAYS LATE, WALKS IN SETS UP HER LAPTOP, TAKES ATTENDENCE FOR 10 MINS, (ONLY HALF AN HOUR OF CLASS LEFT, WRITES SOME MESSAGE ON THE BOARD, AND GOES OVER POWERPOINTS THAT ARE AVAILABLE ONLINE. I COULD HAVE TAKEN AN ONLINE COURSE!!
This teacher is a joke. You would expect alittle more out of someone who flaunts her PHD degree around every class. She is late every morning. She never allows questions. When you try to talk to her one on one she is very condesending. I wouldn't recommend this teacher to my dog let alone another student. The lady needs a new profession.
what kind of teacher assigns a field trip to the zoo ( by yourself), an online qiz, a midterm, and a final all within the last two weeks of class?
Dont buy book, never used it. But do need workbook. No homework except before test (make notecard and workbook activity). Takes attendance and counts as a grade. Lectures are BORING. Tests are kinda easy and can use cheatcard on every test. Final was EASY, all previous test material and can use full sheet for cheatcard. Gives online extra credit.
Arrives late, starts class a minimum of 10 minutes after class should have started. when giving lectures tends to cover material previously covered and go off on tangents about somewhat relevant info for 5-10 minutes only to say "but we will go over that later" OR "but you dont have to remember that" OR "but i wont test on that". Worst.Class.Ever.
Terrible. Exactly what everyone else says. Shows up late. Writes notes on the board when she could easily announce it to the class in a fraction of the time. Doesn't start the actual "lecture" till 20 minutes later. Show up to class which boosts your grade and do online exercises. You're allowed cheat sheets on the tests but would NOT recommend!
Buying the book is a waste of money! Horrible teacher. She wastes so much time. we were four weeks behind schedule in lecture then had tests on things she still hadnt covered in class. She adds like 200 slides of things you do NOT need to know. Shes easy once you get her test habbits down. Its always ABCDE! My final was a joooke.

heres the truth for bio 100 she leaves 500 points out of 1000 near the last 2 weeks of the class you will have a midterm not even a week before your final and a project not even a week before the test...she has 0 social skills and will just ignore you just because she graduated from berkeley she thinks shes the greatest thing since sliced bread
Absolutely terrible, uses slideshows she found on the books website. Explains nothing. Just expects the information to fall into your head. Does not care about students. Uses the words "straight up" a lot. Book is a waste of money. Do not take her. I dropped today.

She totally sucks as a teacher, she doesnt answer questions and all she talks about is food compares food to bio. Tests are "on the lecture" but its not!
Do not take this class. Professor is 15 minutes late to every single class & tries to hold students after class has ended b/c she didn't cover all of the material since she starts class 20 minutes late. Will read off the slides every single class. Assigned online midterm a week before the final. Overall teacher does not care about her job at all

She does not know how to teach AT ALL. The things that I used to know are a lot more confusing now that she taught it to me again. She says that you need to show up to class on the dot but is ALWAYS late herself. It shows no respect to the students that she does not even apply her own rules. Very disappointed.
This teacher redefines the word boring. She's seems extremely uninterested in her job and probably dreads coming to work. The class is not too hard but if you are very interested in Biology, i would suggest taking it with someone else. She avoids answering any questions as well as helping students.

A lot of people are so hard on her. She is very nice. The lectures are quite boring but if you study what she assigns online, you will pass the midterm easily. She allows a cheat sheet on the midterms and provides a lot of extra credit. Biology is a hard subject but her class is not difficult at all, just can be boring,but easy if you do your part!
ONE OF THE WORST PROFESSORS EVER. people may think her class is easy, but it's really not. she couldn't make it on the day of our 2nd midterm and gave us an online midterm that was timed for only 20 mins only! We had 25 questions and mostly each question had additional 5 questions each one and it was only worth 1 point. She doesn't grade fairly..

One of the worst professors I have ever had. She comes to class on average 5-10 minutes late and shows a total lack of interest in her job. She's unclear with guidelines and tells personal anecdotes that have nothing to do with the actual material. You never know what's going to be on her tests. NO LONGER TESTS ONLINE like previous semesters.
You would think that an entry level biology class would be easy, it wasn't. The entire semester I worried about my grade in that class. Tests are based on the slides and on the online exams. I read the book for the first half of the semester and found that I was wasting my time. Just understand each chapter on the reading and know the quizzes.
She obviously knows a lot about biology, but the class is just so boring and no one really wants to pay attention. I stayed attentive and got a B+ so it really isn't so bad. So if you are interested in Biology or need to take it for your major, I guess you can sign up for it. (But just to be safe, I'd rather not.)
She's by far the worst professor. WASTE OF TIME! I showed up everyday, sit during her boring lectures, she's just horrible. Unclear! The power points are pointless. Spent money on a book WE DIDNT EVEN USE. Don't take her. Everything said is true. She's horrible.
I am outraged at how much she doesn't care about her students. Her course is a waste of money. Lectures are horrifyingly boring, what she talks about doesn't make sense and is not on the test, she jumps around subjects, when trying to participate in class she blows you off, the book she makes you buy is never used. Would give her 0's on everything.
Her power points are too long and confusing. Half the information on the slides aren't even on the tests. I was marked absent for two days & went to her for correction. She denied by request and said that "I wasn't sitting in my seat" when I was. Make sure you take advantage of the cheat sheets for test. Only way you will pass this course.
The class is boring! She reads the (whole class) off power points. Book is Never used! test are directly from her PowerPoints!You get notes for test but they don't help bcus test questions are confusing, you'll find yourself with 2 pages of notes (directly)!!from her power point slides! and they won't help. 60 entered 20 left! It's scary
Not really helpful. She just lectures you for the entire class and doesnt have much interaction with the class. Participation is part of the grade but you dont really need to pay attention in class. All power points are online. Also she gave a zoo assignment that was a pain because of the inconvenience in time and price. Otherwise an easy class
She depends way too much on the powerpoints from the textbook. I took BIO 100 with her in the Spring 2014 semester and she ruined a subject that I loved. I showed up for the first three weeks and ditched 5 months of class, showing up on test days and the final. I passed her class with a solid B. Make sure you write really small for the cheat sheets
Here's the thing, everyone expects teachers to engage students right? Well, that's not how every professor does it. It's biology 100 people. Get in, and get out. Go to class, take notes, go home, do online work, and study for tests and it's impossible to get lower than a B! Don't blame the professor for not being able to force you to study.
If there was one person I could cage fight at CSM It would be Wendy Whyte. She's an awful professor and doesn't take her job seriously. Confusing. Don't bother reading the book she assigns. All of her slides directly correlate to her Tests. Assigns a final, midterm and field trip to the zoo all within 5 days. Did I mention I hate her?
She's a sweetheart and honestly the cheat sheets made it very easy to pass as long as you put in work for them. You don't need the book, don't waste your money because she never uses it. I think she cares, but it's tough because a lot of students just take her class for GE requirements (like me). Doesn't answer emails well but warns you about it.
She lectures the entire time off of power points. She does not give you enough time to write down important information. She posts some of the PowerPoint slides online; keyword some. Best way to pass her class was to look at the topics and Google search all of them and put them on the Cheat sheet you're allowed for each test. Avoid this professor
Took last semester. Go ahead and take this class only if it's for GE. Literally all i did EVERY class EVERY day was watch anime. Never payed attention. Lets you use cheat sheet for tests, so write down EVERYTHING from power points. Would've gotten flat A, but missed 2 homework worth 10 points each, so therefore only A-. Book used 1 time for 1 HW.
Textbook was online and so was the homework. Super easy grading structure and tons of extra credit options. We got maybe 1 homework assignment per week at most. Her classes are lecture heavy but her powerpoint are always accessible. As long as you go to 90% of the class and do a minimal bit of work you will pass. Favorite csm professor so far.
THE WORST TEACHER AT CSM. DO NOT TAKE HER. Half of the things she has on her tests, we never learned in class. She is seriously awful, super rude too-refers to the syllabus for everything if you have any questions. Lectures are awful, she just looks at the board and talks. AVOID HER AT ALL COSTS.
Super lecture heavy. Any time you ask her questions she claims that it is in the syllabus (it never is) I wouldn't recommend taking her class. She is funny but thats really her only redeeming qualities. you need the book to do the homework and the book is expensive. Don't take if you're not extremely independent.
Lecture intensive, yet you leave class feeling like you were not instructed at all. Doesn't answer questions during lecture either. Very inflexible, will not allow for makeup tests even if notifying in advance. Book is expensive and essential for accessing homework online. Not recommended, I would've learned more from an online course.

Although u don't have to be in class all the time, u need to be present for the tests, which is pretty reasonable. Many students don't show up on some lecture days since she isn't really strict on attendance. There is a lot of online homework but she gives you a lot of time to complete it and they're worth a good amount of points, which is useful
Easy homework, unlimited try. But the average of every exam is C. Be ready to read books and learn by yourself. Not recommend it.
Doesn't like questions and is very lecture heavy, but one of the easiest class you can take. Just make sure to actually do the homework without looking up all the answers, and write down everything on the gigantic cheat sheet she lets you use. I would highly suggest putting pictures in the cheat sheet. Tons of extra credit. Easy A.
You don't learn much from in-class lectures. In reality, you only go to class for attendance and to take the tests. It's not hard to get a good grade, just make sure to do the important assignments and study the smartbook to pass the tests. Not the best teacher but it's fairly easy to get a decent grade in the class
Her powerpoints and lectures unclear,. The only way to BARELY pass is by reading the textbook. Although she is very disconnected from her lectures and all over the board the most difficult thing is meeting or hearing from her outside of class. She says to email her to schedule office hours and then never replies. Dont take unless you have to.
You won't learn anything during lecture. The only thing that saved me was being able to use study guides on tests and she also drops your lowest exam.
If you can teach yourself this is the class for you, otherwise don't take her! Lecture only, does not engage with students at all. Although she allows a note sheet it's useless without having the right information. Time consuming homework& lectures that has nothing to do with exams. I would not recommend taking this class.

NEVER TAKE HER CLASS. Her lectures are so boring. They never even helped me. I had to study so much after class because I wasn't able to learn during the lectures.
I've always loved biology, and was eager to take this class, ESPECIALLY considering that it is my major. However, Whyte made this class unbearable. She wouldn't look you in the eye, hardly answered questions directly, gave no outside sources or material, and lectured solely off of her power points. Tests had almost no relation to her lectures.
Her classes are boring and it was just 1 and a half hour, class. She does not take roll sheet attendance instead she will put in her laptop. If you are just 5 minute late she will not put you in her attendance and your grades will be dropped every week. Her lectures are not useful for homework and homework are not useful for test. she is the worst.

A ton of online HW, 4 major tests, lecture heavy, tons of extra credit, cheat sheets allowed, but overall I did not feel like I learned anything in this class. I basically had to teach myself because she isn't patient and isn't thorough with her lectures. Homework didn't correlate with the tests and I felt helpless in her class.
AWFUL. took her freshman year and was the WORST biology class ive ever taken. she literally made me hate biology. lectures a TON. by lecture i mean that she stares at the board and just. talks. doesnt even try to engage with her students at all. nothing is connected well enough and will leave you teaching yourself. avoid this prof if you can!!
Professor Whyte gives way too much homework within a short timespan. She is very awkward, and although biology is a rather interesting area of science, her lectures are kind of boring. The content itself is not difficult to understand, so all the stress comes from the sheer amount of work required. Spare yourself the trouble and don't take her.
I'm never the type of person to go write hate on the internet when i am disappointed in a product or service but i felt the need for this "teacher". She Is a very boring, unhelpful and not engaging teacher. Lectures are unstructured and hard to apply and make connections. Don't take class unless last semester and only class available. Horrendous!
This class is lecture boring, but if you do your homework and try to get every assignment done at your best , you can build up your grade. We had around 60 (YES 60) extra point in total so I would say that over all this is a good class. Tests are hard and do not relay on textbooks , so definitely pay attention during her lectures.
Boring lectures but if you can pay attention it's an easy A. Set aside 30 minutes per night to do the homework and reading. If you are lazy, do not take this class. Lots of extra credit.
you're only graded from homework and eight tests throughout the semester. all the hw is online using MHConnect. there are unlimited attempts for the hw, but some are 200 questions. the tests are given about a three-day window to and the lowest two are dropped. they are open note but take notice of timing as she will suspect cheating if so.
lectures are unengaging and only have time for a couple of questions between each. she isn't clear on what to expect and heavily relies on upon to just read the instruction and good luck with that. lacks in communicating with the class, and considering all of the work is electronically graded i don't see why she doesn't have enough time to respond.
Beginning biology so its boring if you had it in high school. Showed interesting videos. She's very nice and helped me understand the chemistry part. Do the homeworks instead of reading. Lets you use notes on tests. Don't cheat; she caught people. Class switched to online in the middle of the semester. Spring 2020
Lecture is too fast to take effective notes and slides don't show up on canvas for weeks. Grading is fair. You are only required to accumulate points. HW is limitless attempts, tests are stressful with short time limits (i.e. 25 minutes for 29 questions). Whyte is ok. Don't really recommend but not the worst.
She was nice but she didnt help at all, she didnt respond to most of the questions that someone would ask about grade, the lectures were boring because she wasnt excited to teach in my opinion

She didn't make it clear at all when things would be due, when tests would be do. She would say when online tests would be due but wouldn't mention that they were due at precisely five pm so if you have a life or a job at all and missed a test you'd be s.o.l. She was not good at replying to emails and I don't think ever replied to me online.
Tests with tons of questions and minimal time. We are expected to use open notes for questions, but when we have barely 30 seconds to do a question, it doesn't matter. Lots of work for a 100 class.

Wendy's class is challenging, but you can do well if you stay on top of the work. The lectures move quickly, so using tools like unstuck study alongside the textbook can really help with study prep. Attend class, complete assignments, and you'll survive this tough course.
She was clear in her assignment due dates and was available to answer questions. I enjoyed taking her class.
I, want to say Wendy Whyte is an amazing teacher. I learned so much from her, and I am not able to comprehend how great of this teacher is going into atoms, molecules, etc. Screw the rating for this professor in my eyes she is a 10 out of 10. hey if you want knowledge to stick for the rest of your life it gotta be her.
