Very easy honors class. You need to read the material before going into class (she will call on you). If you do the online discussion questions you should be fine. Class is mandatory and participation is a big part of your grade as well as the online discussions. No final. Main grading points come from a presentation during class and a paper.
STRONGLY RECOMMEND THIS CLASS. Easiest A ever while still learning a lot. You read and article before every class and discuss the article in class. No final. Attendance is mandatory, but class is discussion based, so it goes by quickly. Dr. Williams is extremely helpful and wants her students to do well.
Wendy is ridiculously biased and says she wants people to debate their opinions and play devils advocate but really she is looking for people to agree with her raging liberal views. Take this class if you want an easy A and absolutely nothing else. Not thought provoking in the slightest and don't share your views, you will get destroyed.
Dr. Williams has been my favorite professor at TCU. The course promoted copious amounts of thought-provoking discussion and plenty of civil discourse. Dr. Williams took as much of a passive role as possible, allowing the students to openly debate amongst themselves. She is incredibly kind, caring, empathetic, intelligent, and an absolute delight.
If you read, go to class, and participate you should do pretty well. There's a presentation you have to make and 6 page paper at the end, but no final. This class was pretty fun, and discussions during class were pretty thoughtful and sometimes lively. Dr. Williams was helpful and a really good teacher.
Dr. Williams is an awesome professor. For people who said that if you don't agree with her then she'll destroy you, that's incorrect. I've had her for 3 semesters &she is a fair teacher. However, if you say something offensive or ignorant, she will correct you just as any responsible & educated honors professor would. Love her as a person & teacher
There are no tests in this class--just 2 big group presentations. They aren't bad though, even coming from someone who dislikes group projects, and presentations in general! The books are interesting though, and the discussions are great. I recommend this class, but stay on top of your reading! Final is a 6-page paper.
DO NOT TAKE DR. WILLIAM'S EMPATHY CLASS. I could list at least 20 reasons why not to take this class. She requires 25 service learning hours outside of class, chooses favorites, and has a TA do all of her work for her. If you disagree with her views she will punish you for it. The worst class and professor I have ever takehad at TCU.
She assigns group at the beginning of the year, 3 hours of every period, we have to sit listening to poor-quality highly-googled presentation whereas she just sits at the back and sometimes swoops in when the discussion gets stuck. Easiest A, learn zero. Shes a professor but teaches nothing. Even has TA grade paper.
WW is an interesting teacher. If you would even call her a teacher. She makes students and guests do most of the teaching. She expects a lot of pointless reading assignments to be done and you don't really learn much. You learn how to write a paper to her liking. Good luck, I do not recommend taking if you want to learn about English/ writing.
1st half of the semester was focused on group presentations- your group does 2, you participate in discussion when you're not presenting. 2nd half is all writing workshops for the final paper. I loved the presentation portion of the class and learned a lot from our discussions. She kinda sits back, but she'll definitely help you if you want her to.
She is super flexible and happy to work with you. She's passionate about her subject and makes the class enjoyable for all of the students. She truly made me excited to come to class today even though it was almost entirely discussion based, and I don't normally like those classes. I had the opportunity to do a creative project that she helped.
Helpful teacher. You don't have to agree with her to get a good grade, just have an open mind, understand why you believe what you believe, and be respectful. This class is all about perspectives, and accepting that the world is a complicated place. If you want an A, then show up to every class and follow the rubrics closely when writing papers.
Took Dr. Williams for an Honors Thesis Prep class. She is an AMAZING person. Take her classes if you get a chance. She will be an advocate for you throughout your college career and beyond.
Dr. Williams is the best. She is sweet, intelligent, and the class is by far the most interesting class I had this semester.
She is one of the most inspirational teachers. She truly cares about your learning experience. I definitely would take her again. I took her Honors Gender at I learned so much. There is a lot of class discussion on interesting topics.
I took Williams Honors Gender Colloquia class. Williams is so inclusive and accessible. She is genuinely a truly kind woman. The class was participation heavy and there was a service learning project, like her other colloquia classes. The workload is not overwhelming and the assignments are interesting.
Honors Colloquia- Gender. LOVED taking her gender class. I was very hesitant to take this honors gender class especially since I had no background in gender at all. I can now say that this class has made challenge the way I and how to be a more emphatic and accepting person. Open discussion every class and very conversational in class.
This class is very informative and makes you think about topics. Each week some articles or videos are assigned to be prepared for class, and they are helpful and not "busy work."
Honors Gender Colloquial- Wendy is amazing. The course will broaden your view and understanding of all things related to gender. Touches on femininity as well as masculinity- aka does not ignore the male aspects of gender issues.
Honors Gender Colloquia: This class has by far been one of my favorite classes at TCU! Class meets once a week for 2 hours, and class is only discussion/project based so you don't have to worry about tests. Dr. Williams is also really understanding and is always available for office hours to talk about your grade or even just about life.
Honors Empathy Colloquial- Service learning based class. Very interesting way of learning by reaching out to the community in Fort Worth. No tests or quizzes. Research project on anything related to empathy (ideally, as it relates to your future career goals) and a service learning paper and group project.
I took empathy with Wendy and had a great experience. Grades consisted of self graded participation, a service learning project, a group presentation, attending outside events, and a research paper. Mostly completion grades. Wendy is an inspiration, and I would take her class for no other reason than to build a relationship with her.
She cares about students but not enough to lead the classroom. We kind of teach ourselves with her guidance. Too many guest speakers and service learning projects and I don't get the sense that she understands the community she is sending us to or the leaders she wants us to work with. People like her because she is nice. But I wanted to be taught
This class is very beneficial for anyone in any department considering departmental honors. This class is self-graded and you really get out what you put in! There are 5 major assignments, but they can be adjusted to fit your major or research needs. Dr. Williams is a great mentor and keeps you accountable in pursuing honors research.
Awesome professor! Caring and designs class for the students. Participation is necessary for a good grade-come prepared to share. I appreciate the class because she will never let you do busy work. This meant all the work was meaningful. If you are a self-motivated learner with initiative, you will appreciate Dr. Williams and her courses.
Discussion based class, few grades, read books, watch movies, highly suggest taking this class
She is a phenomenal teacher. I hated reading before this class. I do not love it quite yet but the reading is good. Literature to film adaptation is a pretty good class to take especially for an easy honors class.
honestly wendy is amazing. very respected, encouraging, and supportive as a professor. would not want to take an honors class with anyone else. make sure that you read the material and are ready to participate, because that's a big part of your grade. attend class, read, participate, and you'll do fine.
Dr. Williams is a wonderful professor who is passionate about the classes she teaches. Though this class has less grades than normal, in reality you will be fine as long as you communicate with her. Dr. Williams is always willing to meet outside of class to help discuss the assignments, and overall is both a wonderful teacher and person.
Highly recommend Professor Williams, she is very kind and lets you create a large part of the class for yourself.
Dr. Williams is such an amazing professor! She respects every student and facilitates great discussion. You do read a lot though!
Good stuff. Easy class that you will do great in if you read most of the books and engage in class. Grades are drawn from only a select few components: participation (which is self-graded), group facilitation, and a final paper.
She wants you to succeed in class and will give you as much help as you need. She is always available and runs her class well. She is clear on her grading criteria. The books we read were interesting and we also got to watch the film adaptations and compare them. You definitely need to go to class, but she makes it worth it.
Take Dr. Williams!!! She's the best :)
Dr. Williams is an amazing professor. She really cares about her students and the class and makes the course enjoyable. The class is very discussion based and she allows the students to lead the discussions. You must read 4 novels in the class however they are pretty good stories that are easy to follow along with. I would 100% recommend this class
I really loved Dr. Williams! She is engaging and accessible outside of class, and the course is a very fair level of difficulty. Would gladly take another class with her!
I took Cultural Literature and Adaptations with Dr. Williams and it was a great class! I really enjoyed the class. The novels we read and the discussion were really interesting and I'm glad I took it. Make sure you have a good group for the discussion facilitation and participate in class discussion and you'll do great!
One of the best professors at TCU.
Wendy was awesome! She's super sweet and genuinely cares about all her students well being. There's a lot of reading but manageable. Overall amazing human!
While this is an Honors class and there is often a fair amount of homework/off campus assignments, the content of the class and how Dr. Williams conducts it makes up for that. She establishes a mutual respect during the very first day of class, and the class discussions are sometimes life-changing (in a good way).
Wendy Williams is truly one of the best people I've met at TCU and am so glad I could have her before I graduated. She is so nice and caring, just wants the best for all of the students. There is a decent amount of work outside of class but it is worth it in the end. Do the work and you'll learn a lot. Highly recommend!
Wendy Williams is one of my favorite professors I have ever had at TCU. She cares deeply about her students and is there for you if you need anything, whether its class related or not. Her classes require a lot of outside work but aren't necessarily HARD.
Really powerful class. The class structure is heavy on outside of class work which makes it somewhat time consuming. Class engagement and participation in discussions was very important. Most of the grading is if you do it, you receive 100% so nearly impossible to get a bad grade
I took her Nature of Values: Empathy class, and while there is reading for class and outside projects, her class helps you grow as a person and go beyond an ordinary class for a grade. If you do all the readings and the outside activities, an A is virtually guaranteed. 100% would take her class again.
Wendy Williams is one of the kindest professors I have ever had. And she is very knowledgeable about all things empathy-related. There is a fair amount of work outside of class, so you need to be committed to the class, but she is not a tough grader, and the work is definitely doable.
I absolutely adored this class! It is a lot of outside work, but the in-class work is rather light. There are 12 hours of required service learning and approximately 10 hours of other assignments (where you have to go to events). Other than that, you just need to be able to contribute to discussion in class. 70% of the course is completion.
She is a true gem. She cares about her students both in and out of the classroom and wants them to succeed. Classes are a lot of work, yes, but if you take them seriously you will get a lot out of them.
Definitely cares about her students and their growth. Class covers relevant topics and the classroom environment is engaging. Lots of reading for homework but it's fairly interesting. Few small presentations, but grades are mostly based on daily, self-graded participation. Fairly easy, but interesting cultural visions class. Would recommend.
Dr. Williams is great, she really cares about her students. I took her Nature of Value- Empathy course and I learned a lot and actually really enjoyed the class. Make sure to prepare before class and participate during the discussion. Highly recommend!
Dr. Williams is such an awesome professor - she listens to what you want to get out of the class and you can change the syllabus depending on needs of the class. She truly cares about the class and what you will get out of it!
This class is extremely easy. You watch a lot of ted talks and talk about them together. It's really about learning and not about performance or grades. Dr. Williams cares about her students and is super flexible. Recommended if you need something not very time consuming but that will make you think.
Cares a lot about her students. Group projects are a major part. Must participate to get a good grade. A lot of outside of the class work Overall would take again
Great professor, cares about your learning and the subject. Awesome Honors class. Pretty stress-free also
She is extremely nice and wants the best for everyone! This class makes you learn a lot and so much more rewarding than the usual class at TCU. This is one of my favorite teachers I have had thus far and I highly recommend.
Dr. Williams is awesome! She is so friendly, truly cares about her students, and is very approachable. Classes are discussion-based so attendance and participation are important. There are about 5-6 assignments; however, they are thought provoking and you get an A on them if you try.
Dr. Williams is EASILY my favorite professor at TCU. I've take n 2 classes with her, and both have been my favorites at TCU. She gives great feedback to her students, and she genuinely cares about her students and wants them to be the best they can be. Some assignments were due back to back, but they are do-able! BEST professor- I adore her!
She is the best prof at TCU. She is so incredibly kind. Empathy has been the best class I have taken at TCU, I wish I had the chance to take more of Wendy William's classes. You learn so much and she challenges you in a way that is beneficial. Also, don't stress about your grade, you just need to try your best.
Very caring person, don't stress about grades, as long as you do the work she will take care of you. Assignments and grading are extremely flexible if y'all ask her. Be prepared to write. Would highly recommend
Absolutely fantastic and flexible!
Dr. Williams is incredible! She creates a wonderful environment in the classroom that truly brings out the best in each student. She is kind and approachable. Wish I could take her again!
The best professor at TCU by far. She is caring and so sweet. I will definitely be taking one of her classes again. There was a substantial amount of reading outside of class, but as long as you participate, you will get the grade you want. She is an amazing woman who I will stay in contact with even after graduation.
Dr. Williams is a gem, best professor I've had at TCU. She cares a lot about her students and doesn't try and push any sort of agenda or bias. I took CLA, 5 total papers, a group project, and participation are all that is required. You can make an A without reading any of the books using sparknotes. Would definitely take another one of her classes.
I wasn't interested in the Victorian period before, but thanks to Dr. Williams' teaching on this period, I have gained so much interest in it. Dr. Williams is so supportive, so if you take everything seriously in this class and work for it, you'll achieve the grade you want easily.
This class was great. I never thought coming in to this class that I would be interested in a class about the Victorian era of England, but Dr. Williams helped change my mind.
Dr. Williams is a great professor. She really cares about her students and is very accessible in and out of class. There is a lot of reading for this class, but the class is completely discussion-based with a few projects/papers. Expect to put work into the class, but if you do the work you will be fine. Highly recommend!!
Dr. Williams is a great professor! This class requires hard work but she makes it interesting and enjoyable. In this class, you read three books, give three presentations, and write a final research paper.
I loved Wendy!!! So kind and caring for all her students! She is so passionate about her class and is willing to help anyone who needs anything. Gives great feedback and really wants you to succeed in class. She makes her classes super fun and engaging and it is always fun going to class.
Dr. Williams is by far the best professor I've had at TCU, and her Culture, Literature, and Adaptations course was one of my favorites that I've taken. The final grade is based entirely on class participation and 2 projects, which keeps you engaged without feeling suffocated by work. It is a lot of reading to keep up with, but worth it!
If you take a class with her, it is an honor to learn from the best! She is so kind and her smile lights up a room. I can not get over how much her class has transformed me.
One of the most caring, empathetic professors I've ever had at TCU. Highly recommend taking any of Dr. Williams' classes. Her mindfulness course was super engaging and interesting. Good balance of group and individual projects.
Wendy is the best professor I have ever had! I took her class "Mindfulness for College Students." She is honestly the most caring and positive person I have every met. I wish she could teach every single class I take because she is so awesome. This class was mentally challenging but not super hard. It challenged me to better myself! LOVE HER!!!!
Dr. Williams' Mindfulness should 1000% become a core class. She helps you learn many techniques for all aspects of life and encourages you to use them when possible. There are a few group projects and the reading can be a bit dense, but overall the class is not super difficult. She also encourages you to reach out if you have questions or concerns.
She was amazing! Easy to access outside of the classroom! Great time and would definitely take again!
Great professor!! So understanding!!! The class required quite a lot of reading (entire book over 12-14 weeks) plus presentations, and research papers. Amazing student-led class, that gives quick feedback! Easy to improve your grade!! Best professor at TCU!!
She is the best!! Most caring and empathic person. She wants you to suceed!
Best professor. Very intentional with her students. She is very flexible with each individual. Participation is graded but over the semester you will become more comfortable.
She is truly passionate about what she is teaching and her students. Never worried about my grade because she will work with you to make sure you succeed. Listens to her students and adapts. Highly highly recommend!
Absolutely the best of the best if I can find another class to take with Dr. Williams I will. The only thing is for this class it's fairly large reading requirement.
Wendy is the most passionate and encouraging teacher ever
Dr. Williams is a very caring professor! She is always happy to help you with any problem you have. She wants to make sure you are not feeling too stressed in her class. There is reading- we read Middlemarch, which w so it is a bit of a hard read if you are not an avid reader. However, the discussions in class made it a fun read.
Being scared to speak in socratic seminars, I became more comfortable to talk because of Wendy. She made class so fun and was an easy grader. She answers quickly on emails and cares more about your mental health compared to your grade. I absolutely loved Wendy and I totally recommend taking this class.
Dr. Williams is one of the best professors at TCU. She is so welcoming and made class so fun. Class consists of 2 easy presentations and participation in class (but it is super easy to get). She is a pretty easy grader and it is very doable to get an A in this class. Come to class prepared knowing what happened in the book. Take this class!!!!!
I took this class because I had no other options for the credit I needed and was very worried going in. However, the class ended up being the best honors class I had taken. Class is very interesting and is discussion based so if you participate, you will have a good grade.
Wendy is a fantastic educator and a caring person who makes an effort to connect with each of her students individually. This is a class that I already knew I would enjoy, but she really did everything she could to make the class as stress-free and conducive to real discussion and learning as possible.
I love Dr. Williams! She is an amazing professor and person! You will not regret taking her class. The topics discussed in class were so interesting and relevant. Enjoyed going to class and learning something new. Highly recommend.
Dr. Williams was such a great professor! Mindfulness wasn't a difficult course, but I definitely learned a lot and I am really glad I took the class. It is not difficult to get an A but you do need to come to class and participate!
Dr. Williams is one of the best professors I've had at TCU. Classes are so engaging and there is barely homework- just a few small readings. One group presentation and small research project, but really not that much and they are graded so fairly. She is such a kind and inspirational individual as well that going to class is super enjoyable
Great professor who cares about her students and creates a very warm and welcoming class environment. Very understanding- She will always be there if you need anything
Professor Williams is great! I had Mindfulness with her and learned a lot. The class was really easy. If you show up, participate in lectures, and do the reading, you'll be able to fly through it easily. Honestly, it didn't feel like much of an honors class besides the quality of the other student's work. The class is mostly student taught.
She's amazing. Take her if you can. She's one of the kindest professors at TCU and is just beyond understanding. I promise you won't regret taking her!
Dr. Williams is a super knowledgeable and caring professor that will foster a respectful and caring environment. The class is largely discussion based (duh, its an honors class) with a couple of group projects and individual assignments and readings. Participation is key, show up everyday and contribute and you will be fine.
Professor Williams is one of my favorite professors! I was wary going into her mindfulness class, but ended up learning a ton. The course load is extremely manageable (not a ton of hw, mainly a chapter or so of reading). The class is heavily discussion based, but Wendy creates a comfortable atmosphere that makes speaking up easy to achieve.
Mindfulness with Williams is the best!! If you have the chance to take her, do it- you will not regret it! She is amazing at creating a safe class environment where students feel comfortable being vulnerable and discussing hard things. I was always excited to come to her class despite being in 18 hours this semester, and that says a lot!
Dr. Williams is an amazing professor. She grades very fairly and gives good feedback on all your assignments. She makes everything easy to follow and makes the class fun at the same time.
Dr. Williams is a great teacher of mindfulness to college students! I learned so much about mindfulness and its effect on our lives and how to implement it! I loved this class and found it very interesting and Dr. Williams was an excellent teacher. not to mention an easy grader and the work load was not bad at all for an honors class.
Dr. Williams is a great professor! She genuinely takes interest in her students and cares for them. I feel like half the class was taught by her, and the other half was learning by group projects, so if you like group projects, then you would enjoy this class. Participation is important as well too! I would definitely recommend Dr. Williams!
Professor Williams is one of the best teachers I have taken here at TCU. She offers amazing feedback and is always willing to listen to your feedback, no matter the issue. She is super reasonable and this can be seen as super easy for many!
100% recommend the class. class was easy, it was very relaxing, and nice to have an easy class. class was never too stressful. 2 big project grades, but they are easy, she grades easy, and grading criteria is very Clear. participation is easy. allowed to miss 2 classes with no penalty.
Dr. Williams is one of the best professors I have ever had at TCU. From day 1, she makes it her goal to make each student feel accepted and like their opinion matters. Her discussions are so interesting and made a class I thought was going to be boring and long a class that was engaging and exciting. There are 2 big projects, but she grades easy.
Dr. Williams, by far, is the best Professor of Gender&History I have ever had. She is great!!
The syllabus makes this class seem like a hard class because 30% was participation but trust me, just show you pay attention and participate in the discussion, you will get an A. It's not hard to discuss because we just read a book and talk about it. The book's great and she's also a easy grader. Totally love her. Would definitely take her again!
Although the title of this course did not sound interesting to me in the slightest, this has been my favorite honors course I have taken by far. The book can sound daunting however split up over the course of the semester it is not bad at alI. I never dreaded going to this class; Wendy is an awesome professor. Take any class you can get with her!
Dr. Willams wants you to succeed. The class is reading heavy, as you read a 900 page novel, but you spend all semester reading it. I have learned so much and would take another one of her classes if I ever got the chance.
She is known for her exceptional teaching style and ability to convey material clearly. She employs a dynamic and engaging approach in the classroom, making complex topics more accessible and interesting. Her lectures are well-structured, which aids in providing a clear understanding of the subject matter.
Wendy Williams is the best. The class is usually discussion based and there are about two group projects that are not difficult. I have taken her twice and would be taking her again if I had the chance. She is a fair grader and loves her students. Attendance is mandatory, so if you want to skip a bunch this might not be the best class.
Great professor.
Dr. Williams is so kind and amazing. this is the best class I have ever taken. it changed my life
Wendy is amazing!!! I have taken her classes twice and she is my favorite professor at TCU. Her classes do require a lot of outside reading, which is annoying, but the books are good. Participation is very important in her class, and you do really have to read and contribute to the conversation using examples from the texts.
would recommend taking this class! loved it! it was fun/interesting, and I learned a lot
Dr. Williams is an incredible professor. She is kind and fair, always willing to accommodate her students. Take her if you can!
Taking Dr. Williams for Cultural, Literature, and Adaptations and it is one of my favorite honors courses! Dr. Williams is very kind and accommodating and the class is easy, use SparkNotes if you don't have time to read the novels. There are two major projects, a Discussion Facilitation and Research project, and a final. Easy A!
Be prepared to discuss! Everyday is a discussion led by other classmates where participation is required for credit. There are papers at the end of the semester, but most of the work involves the weekly readings and huge presentation where you lead the class for a week. It wasn't my favorite, but Dr. Williams was very nice and understanding.
Professor Williams is a kind and engaging instructor. The class relies heavily on participation and group work, but the manageable workload and interesting material make it a great experience. I found unstuck AI helpful for study prep.
One of the nicest, sweetest professors you will ever meet. She is so caring and very laidback, all you have to do is try in her class. Very participation focused, hardly any assignments, until the end which are mainly group projects.
Williams is the BEST. Super interesting class and not that hard. She also does a great job of connecting with the students. Classes are discussion based so participation and attendance are mandatory. I would definitely recommend taking Williams for any class!
