Out of all the other chem teachers she is the easiest. She has easy labs and homework, and her tests are not hard as long as you know what your're doing. Go to the Lectures, and she has optional problem solving sessions.
Good class. Just easy enough (translation: you'll learn something). You can do well if you keep up (not too hard to do). Fun teacher once she warms up (mid-semester).
A teacher filled with passionate. Although inexperienced, she tried hard to explain the materials. Easy quizes but a little tough exams!
Great teacher- extremely energetic and seems to love to teach. You'll do well if you go to EVERY class and lab. Lots of extra credit opportunities. Tests are pretty simple (9 quizes 2 midterms 1 final, but you can drop one quiz) can dr. HW once a week
She is a very nice and easy teacher. If you study all the note that she wrote on the board, you will get an "A" easily. She is nice in the other ways. She often bring snacks to the class, first for teaching then for us(student) to eat...
she was really great and helpful, she's the sweetest lady ever and gives super easy tests.
I'm currently enrolled (reading the reviews posted here) in the class and the reviews all seem true. Very dedicated and has a huge amount of patience. Thank God for teachers like her. I doubt you'll find a better Chem teacher.
there are no words to describe how amazing Miss Wong is.sometimes i just feel like i want to sit and have a cup of coffee with her and know more about her personality.i consider myself an extremely lucky person to have met her.i truly adore her and i don'
cool... teacher if you do hw, than no prob. for quizes and mid terms... take her! :)
EASIEST TEACHER!!!!! She teaches extremely well, and if you don't get something, go to her office hours and ask her - she will explain it to you.TAKE HER!!!!
She is one of the easiest teachers alive. I first came to SMC thinking that Chem was gonna be hard...but I was wrong. Gives easy homework & the labs are easy. Is very helpful. If you ask questions and answer them, she will like you. A must take.... i only wish she did Chem 11, 12, 21, 22, 24.
Very nice professor, explaining everything and give bonus in the quiz. Take her!She is the best in SMC.
easiest and best teacher in the world! not only is she easy but you learn it all!!! AMAZING!!!
Everyone that says nice things about professor wong is definantly on something!!! maybe they sniffed too many chemicals in that class!DO NOT TAKE HER!unless you want to do a million homework assignment on the weekend and have a quiz everytime!!!she is a *****
Her class is not so easy, you need to always do your homework and be prepared but she is the best teacher I have ever had in Chemistry. She is very clear and very organized with the material. She is fun and does all she can to help you out if you want to do good in her class.
She comes off as being nice and helpful, until you actually need help. She rolls her eyes and gets an attitude when you ask for help.Gives too many quizzes that are very unfairly graded.Makes each question on the quiz worth too many points so if you get 1 wrong you can get a C. She gave 6 quizzes,4 lab quizzes,2 midterms, and a final.Arbitrary grader
Great teacher. She goes out of her way to conduct study sessions right before exams/quizzes. There are a good amount of quizzes, but they only cover a small amount of material each time. Very manageable. Recommended.
She is the hardest professor in SMC, I dont recomend her at all. I dropped that ******* Class because the test and teacher are cra zy! but If u wanna hard work. is all up 2 u. ahh! if u r asian it will be fine
goooood
Not for science majors. Lacks understanding; has memorized rules over reason. Difficulty relaying complex subjects. In rare cases, teaching is scientifically unsound. Limited knowledge of math. Serious gaps in material make later courses difficult- take her if chem 10 is your last... ever. She is a kind, and genuinely caring teacher - albeit unfit.
She prepared me for Chem 11, very well. Expect to study and take a lot of tests, but you'll learn it all and find that you already know the material for later chem classes.
Very nice lady but couldn't explain chemistry if her life depended on it. Has bad examples, bad answers to questions. She gives lots of work, grades unfairly. She has a good curve and a good amount of extra credit which will allow for an easy B, but for an A, expect to work your ass off. I would NOT recommend her, makes you memorize way too much!
She is young and has great knowledge, she is very nice and easy guys. the midterms are straight from quizes, i mean even some exact problems, overall very nice worksheets r easy, u should be a bit smart though to handle chemistry, coz she has to teach the material. so strongly recomend her.i wish she teaches chem 11,12 and everything.
She is perfect. try to add it if you r going to take chem
She is super nice. Like the way how she teaches.
Perfect, recommended to others
IF you work hard...its a very easy class...shes very good at teaching the material...she grades very hard on the worksheets and labs...lots of quizzes but there pretty simple(mc,shortanswer, prob solving) has EC opportunities..overall great teacher, however you still need to work pretty hard to get the grade you want
I really want to like her. Her tests are fair and she's geniunely excited about topics. However, she is an unfair grader. She has marked correct answers wrong and does not admit mistakes in this regard. She gives different scores/points at her whim, even if you and your lab partner turn in the same work! Maybe there could be worse?
prof wong is pretty nice but she is an unfair grader. my lab partner would get a problem right when i would have it marked wrong. i think she chooses favorites. she gets way too excited about the subject which is kinda cute. her tests and quizzes arent that hard but like i said. TOTAL UNFAIR GRADER. she is a real tough grader. sweats alot in the pi
SHe is absolutly wonderful. Got an A in the class after failing it twice in High School. I actually love Chem. now. She takes a lot of time out to help you and test are very fair. Grading on HW and Labs is a bit arbitrary. If I did all the worksheets I'd get a 5 if I did half the worksheets I'd still get a 5... who knows how she graded that stuff??
Prof. Wong is a great teacher. She explains all of the material in easy to understand language, she gets very excited about the subject and goes over problems a # of times so you get it. She's extremely fair and helpful. My only knock is grading of hw and labs seem pretty arbitrary but she gives you enough xtra credit chances to boost your grade
She is one of best professor that I have ever had, well-organized, gives you lots of extra credits, explain material in the easy way to understand. I recommended you don't miss any lecture and labs and do all the assignment she gave; then you will get an easy A. She made me love Chemistry.
easy but her points system doesn't make much sense.
This teacher gives approximately 70 extra credits in her class and her tests and exams are not difficult. If u do all the hw and study, getting A is not difficult.
REALLY UNFAIR GRADER!!! IT WAS SO ANNOYING. NOT EVEN THE SMARTEST STUDENTS WOULD GET PERFECTS. YOU LITERALLY HAVE TO BE PERFECT FOR HER TO GIVE YOU FULL CREDIT.
She's a decent lady who wants you to do well and learn. She actually cares about chemistry and knows her material, unlike incompetent Schmidt. Some people can't handle her lab section, but that's b/c they're lazy. I really like her, she isn't ostentatious like Schmidt. She cares and explains concepts clearly if you don't get em. Be neat and on time
her grade is very unfair. she would look at your final exam to determine your final grade which means all the daily marks are kinda useless.it is very unfair*!!!!
she's good to take if premed is your thing and you've taken chem. before in H.S.. However, if you just need to take chem as a prereq, avoid her. Her grading system is stress you don't need. she is kinda cute though in a neurotic way..
Professor Wong is a fair teacher, who is excited about what she teaches. You will need to work hard outside of class to understand all of the material (you would need to do that with any other Chem. class anyway). There are no "easy" chem classes. After sitting in and hearing about other chem profs....you'd be lucky to have Wong.
She is a very good teacher I would definitely recommend taking her. Though i was one percent away form an A i still have respect and I appreciate all her teachings. Make sure you do your homework, study for all quizzes, and write all the stuff she says in class. This class is not for lazy people or protagonists so make sure you come in the class wi
She is a good teacher but she is a little tricky on her tests and quizes. If you decide to take Wong I would recommend not taking too many classes because her class requires a lot of work.
Very enthusiastic about what she teaches, I'll give her that, but displays annoyance when people ask questions. Has an agenda and just plows through it; doesnt like to spend time making things more clear/understandable when a lot of ppl don't understand. labs arent easy either and are 2 long & u gota take em home w/ the ton ofother work she assign
WAY too much homework. she doesnt fully explain how to do problems and then sends you home with 5 assignments.
eASSYY!!!?? The material yes! her grading is TOTALLY UNFAIRR!! DoO NOT TAKE HER!! if anything report her!! i literally spend hours doing her homework and get 7 problems wrong out of 25, ZERO POINTS on the assignment, THEN WHY TURN IT IN!!? MS. WONG! YOU ARE UNFAIR!! REALLY UNFAIR! ITS INTRO TO CHEM!!! NOT A SCIENCE FAIR!
I agree with the other comments.I forgot my units in on problem, out of about 40 problems ,and she ate up half a point. The assignment was worth 4.She we literally eat up your grade.
I agree with the other comments.I forgot my units in one problem, out of about 40 problems ,and she ate up half a point. The assignment was worth 4.She we literally eat up your grade.
UNFAIR GRADING,RUSHES THROUGH MATERIAL TO GIVE HOMEWORK,AND EXAMS.AFTER YOU HAVE DONE THE EXAM SHE WILL REVIEW THE MATERIAL.NEEDS TO WORK ON HER TEACHING SKILLS.
unfair grading. has her favorites. tests are really tricky. isnt great with outside help. dont take her..!
the smart ones dropped early.shes not worth taking.take walker waugh who actually wants her students to ask questions.wenise seems irritable
It seems like bitter people have been rating Professor Wong. She's one of the best teachers at SMC. She gives you all the tools to ensure your success. She consistently gives bonus points. She is just a wonderful teacher. It takes a pretty dense head not to do well with her. Highly highly recommended! Thank you for everything professor Wong.
Good teacher. People who can't hang in her class don't know how to study correctly. she doesn't spoon feed you the info. If you study hard in her class. You'll get an A God willing. If not your prob not fit for chem. period point blank. not an Easy A. I worked hard for my A. I did it while working. too. no excuses.
Agree with previous posters- rushed through material in order to give assignments and then explained in depth AFTER assignment due. Exams are beyond difficult. On the up side very organized and clear in her lecture style.
She is a great professor. She is very enthusiastic about chemistry. She is pretty clear about the work and if you don't understand, she tries her best to try to make you understand. If you do all the review problems she tells you to do for extra practice, you'll do great on the tests. Test questions are similar to those she gives as problems to do.
This was the first chemistry class I ever took, TOTALLY freaked out the first few weeks, but as time went on I realized shes an AMAZING teacher, just to do ALL the worksheets, most of the problems in the book, pay attention to her in class, and ASK QUESTIONS OUTSIDE OF CLASS. The A is then attainable! Loved her class and now I'm in chem12!
She is crystal clear on the lecture. Anyone can get an A if they were to just review and practice what they learned. Just do all the homework though. I forgot to do most of it and got a B. She also gives a lot of extra credit.
She is a very good teacher. She gives a lot of homework which prepares you well for the tests and quizzes but also can be daunting if you have a full load/work. She is very clear. I read the book, did all the work and got an A+. She gives some extra credit too. Highly recommend her. She is passionate about the subject and it rubs off on you! :)
SHE IS PASSIONATE ABOUT CHEMISTRY BUT MAKES ONE FEEL DUMB WHEN YOU DONT UNDERSTAND SOMETHING. EXTRA CREDIT GIVEN ISNT FAIR BECAUSE NOT EVERYONE CAN BENEFIT FROM IT ... SHE IS EXTREMELY HARD AND EASILY ANNOYED BY QUESTION. SHE RUSHES THROUGH NOTES SO THAT SHE CAN ASSIGN WORKSHEETS THE LAST 2-5 MINS OF CLASS. GOOD LUCK!
Best teacher I've had at SMC. Caused me to fall in love with chemistry. Organized, thorough professor that gives crystal clear explanations. I can not recommend her enough. Her class is time consuming. Prepares you very well for Chem 11 and on! SHE'S AWESOME!!! TAKE HER!
Prof Wong is very experienced and passionate on her subject. Classes are all textbook based, as well as the quizes and tests. If anyone has a solid science foundation and good intuition her class will be a piece of cake. She's a strict grader and especially picky on the worksheets which need to be done and turned in weekly. Recommended.
Professor Wong is the hardest teacher in Santa Monica College. When she grades homework, it is out of small points so if you got one wrong out of many problems she gives you half the credit. I didn't receive an A because she always seems to find something wrong in your homework or lab. Dont take her ever! You wont get an A unless you are blessed!
Amazing professor! Always super helpful and answered any questions I had. Very down to earth and cares about her students. Would take her again for Chem 11 if she was teaching it. Highly recommended!!
if you have to take chemistry take her! she goes over the material to make it very clear for all students. You do have to pay attention and make sure to write down all her notes they are very helpful. I really did enjoy her class she is very passionate about chemistry.
Would definitely recommend her if you have to take chem. Great professor. Hw's harder than the tests which is nice because the tests arent as stressful as you think. Hw is online so you have to buy the access code. Lectures are VERY organized & VERY clear. I wish all teachers would teach like her. Take her class if you have to take a science w/ lab
Good teacher, make sure you go to the lectures she does cover a lot in class. Professor Wong gives some extra credit you should take advantage of it. You will have to put in effort, its a chemistry class after all.
Best prof i've ever had yet. Gives extra credit for quizzes and tests. Very straightforward. She's there if you need help or have any questions. I thought i would dread taking the class but I ended up loving her as a teacher and the class. Come to class, take notes, do HW A.
Good chemistry professor. 4 tests, midterm, and a final along with weekly homework. The course has a lot of material (5 unit class) so you will have to put in work in order to get an A. She gives extra credit on exams and has very helpful office hours so take advantage of those. Overall interesting class, nice professor, and very long lectures.
TAKE HER CLASS!! She's an awesome professor that is really outgoing and really cares for her students. She's super bubbly and cheerful and just adorable. She gives a lot of assignments though (they're easy and are covered in class). Doesn't give pop quizzes at all! If you're looking for a required lab course, T A K E H E R C L A S S !!!
AWESOME PROFESSOR!! Made chemistry really relatable to everyday life and therefore made me way more interested in the topic. Gives really thorough lectures and detailed notes. Not too much homework and LOTS OF EXTRA CREDIT!! Take this class!!!
I am having a hard time in her class not because i dont understand the subject its because she takes out point for no reason. Also she goes over the lecture really fast she doesnt care if her students understand the subject or not all she cares is finish it on time. Expect to write at least 4 pages in her lecture.
Exams are hard!
She was the hardest prof i ever took in smc. Exams are hard and you will be given 4 quizzes which is also hard. If you write one word wrong for the lab report she will deduct point and if you late for lab she will also deduct point actually she will deduct point for no particular reason overall good professor
She is very sweet lady however when its comes to grading she is not. Beware of her grading!!!
She will eat all your points and pretend like nothings happened. Make sure to double check your mistake on exams because she marks correct answers incorrect!!! And dont put too much effort on homework assignment which is watching videos and answer questions, because she gives half credit on everything anyway.
I tried my best and put too much effort but ended up getting D. Took it again with Professor Waugh Walker and got an A with less effort. Im telling you guys she is the hardest professor at smc she deduct your points to make you struggle.
Not going to lie, she is a tough professor. This class took a lot out of me but in the end, it was very enlightening. Prof. Wong is very knowledgeable and expects you to put in 150%. Points are everything in this class and she hardly gives full points for assignments. Just participate and READ through the textbook carefully and you'll be fine.
One of the hardest classes I have taken at SMC but I don't regret it at all. I am not a science major so I only took this course for IGETC purposes but it honestly taught me a lot. Prof. Wong keeps you accountable and ensures you leave with the knowledge expected. She goes above and beyond than a basic chem class and I strongly recommend her.
Literally confuses you and makes you do more work than needed. She doesnt answer questions clearly and only cares about getting her lectures done. She takes points off for no reason.
Her lectures are easy to follow and she is super helpful outside of class. MAKE SURE YOU GO TO HER OFFICE HOURS. People say she isn't good at answering questions but that honestly isn't the case. There is nothing about Chemistry she cannot answer.
Ms. Wong is awesome! She really makes a good effort in taking chemistry classes and tying them into our everyday world. I personally am a terrible test taker, so I really love all of the homework and extra credit opportunities she provides in order for great study materials and other chances to boost up your grade. Best professor for science!!!!!
Do not miss lectures, they are long and information dense and the material will not be taught again. I failed with a 66%, 67% was the pass, which is fair but a little harsh. Lab work is difficult but sometimes fun. Wish her lectures were more interesting, the information is not bad but Professor Wong is not great at engaging her students.
Dr. Wong is amazing! I was so scared to take Chemistry because I had never taken it before, and I loved her class! She is clear with instruction and provides so many opportunities for extra credit. She has lots of office hours and study sessions, and is just all around very helpful! You can tell she loves what she teaches, and was very interactive
I did awful with chem in HS so I was nervous for this class but prof. Wong is AMAZING. She is very organized. There are lecture worksheets to print and she goes over how to do everything step by step. TONS of extra credit. All her lecture videos are posted along with recordings from the actual zoom. Assignments are short. highly recommend!!
Dr. Wong is an awesome instructor. She had me actually enjoying chem. I wish she had other sections so I could take another one of her classes. She's helpful and cares about her students. I miss her!
Truly a professor who is passionate about their subject! Prof. Wong's organizational skills are unmatched. Manage your time wisely, though. There are many assignments, however, they are usually due by the end of the week. Prof. Wong also records her lectures as well. Do the homework and you'll succeed. Bottom Line: great online course!
This is a great STEM class for non-STEM majors. She is very organized and accessible and gives out a lot of extra credit. The class taught me a lot about recycling/climate change/basic chemistry. It is a lot of work if you take it during the short semesters (I took it in winter) but I had a lot of fun! 10/10 would recommend her.
I am currently taken Wong but i have to say that she is absolutely one of the best teachers at SMC! . She is so sweet and easy to talk to. She has so many EC opportunities and her work seems work heavy but it is really not, just pace yourself. Ask questions if you need help!! Also never be late to lab or miss it! I highly highly recommend her.
Love this class and recommend her to everyone! Open note tests and lab quizzes, she also gives out a ton of extra credit. All of her lectures are on her YT and the labs are really fun. Try not to miss lectures and the class can be a bit much if taken during short semesters. Overall one of the best profs at SMC
For Chem 9, it indeed costs me more time than Calculus. She is so much responsible with strong commitment. Good thing is the open notes for exam. So it is great possibility to get a good grade. Also there are so much of extra points you could get. Take her class. Highly recommended!
