The course requires "TopHat." It sucks.
He makes his lectures (relatively) easy to follow along with, but you can tell that Ellenberger makes the progress checks and exams. He genuinely cares about his students, and is a pretty solid choice for gen chem. Beware though, the lectures are extremely mathematically-based, but exams are highly conceptual.
Dr. Du is an amazing teacher who actually cares about his students' understanding and comprehension of the material. He may go a bit fast in lecture, but definitely go to his office hours. The course sucks but with him, you may actually have a chance of passing this godforsaken mess.
Chem at UGA is really hard, but he's great at explaining things. The course still sucks because the TopHat book sucks, but Dr. Du did a great job of explaining the concepts before our final test of the semester. He was also extremely accessible and nice. I definitely would take his class if it came up.
Really a great professor. He cares a lot that his students do well and is always willing to help. The textbook and homework is on Top Hat which was horrible and a lot of the questions and answers were wrong, not really his fault though. Definitely take from Dr. Du if you have the opportunity.
Dr. Du is very passionate about his teaching. He'll go above and beyond by printing out the notes so you can have a physical copy. The online program is terrible. The answers are never right but you have to do it for HW & participation grades. Dr. Du has a strong accent that makes it difficult to follow along but he does his best to explain things.
Chem at UGA will suck regardless, but Dr. Du is the best professor you can have for chemistry. Such a nice guy, cares a lot about his students, and is always willing to help. 11/10 recommend.
Dr. Du goes out of his way to make sure you understand each concept. Very helpful with clicker questions and one of the best gen chem professor
If you're taking CHEM 1212 (or any class he teaches in the future), he's your BEST bet. His lectures make every lesson so much clearer than the book itself, and he writes out every step and every explanation for every problem in class. He's also very willing to adjust to your schedule to meet outside office hours and help you. A great guy, 10/10.
Dr. Du is the best professor you can take for genchem. Last semester I had Blankenship, and so going from her to this was the most amazing thing. He actually teaches!! He cares a lot about his students. There's a lot of homework, but it's the standard amount for every chem class. I would definitely recommend taking him if you want to learn!
Chem is really hard at UGA no matter what but Dr. Du really tries his best to teach and help students do well. His lectures and powerpoint are really helpful and he is good about answering questions and explaining things. Highly recommend taking him if you have to take gen chem.
BEST GEN CHEM TEACHER. He makes extra effort outside of lectures to upload answers to questions. His in-class questions will prepare you for the test and progress checks. He's always happy to help students and explains things really well. If the book doesn't make sense to you, you're 99% guaranteed to understand concepts after his lectures.
CHEM1212 is a naturally hard subject, so regardless of your teacher, you're going to have to put in a lot of work. However, Dr. Du is pretty great. He'll stay after class to help you understand certain concepts and replies quickly to his emails. You're also graded on clicker questions, so it's best to go to class.
DU IS THE BOMB! the nicest and most caring man you will EVER meet. Gen chem is harddd at uga regardless, but DU wants to help you. go to his office hours! master the progress checks and form study groups. This is the man to take for chemistry...! you will NOT regret it. one of my favorite professors at uga.
Very helpful in office hours. Very caring and helpful. The class is hard regardless of the teacher but he instructed very well. Take advantage of his office hours.
From the first lecture of 1212, I knew that Dr. Du wanted me to succeed. Chemistry is definitely a hard class, but Dr. Du makes it just a bit easier with his lectures. He hints at upcoming PC questions too. I really wish I would've gone to his office hours more often. He explains everything so clearly. You can't go wrong with this guy.
He is by far the best GenChem professor. He make sure all the topics are explained and he does a good job at explaining the math behind calculations. He is extremely understanding and he is willing to work with you. Chem is not an easy class but he make sure his students are well informed of the topics on the test.
Dr. Du is a great chemistry professor. He actually wants you to learn chemistry and pass the class. His lectures and powerpoint correlate with more to the test as the class progresses, but don't get me wrong. This class is difficult as it is to weed out kids.
Chemistry at UGA sucks, but Dr. Du is your best choice. Chemistry is a flipped classroom so in class time is mostly clicker questions but Du will go over each one and explain how to do it. The tests are impossible but everyone takes the same ones so teacher doesn't really affect that.
Chem 1211 is a hard class no matter who you take but Du is the best option. He has a lot of office hours and works one on one with students.
Chem sucks, but Dr. Du understands that we are all struggling. He cares about his students' success and takes his time to answer questions and explain clicker problems. I highly recommend going to his office hours.
Dr. Du is the best option for a chemistry professor at UGA. He is so sweet and explains material pretty well. This class is definitely a very difficult though. Practicing math problems are the best way to study. Attendance is not taken, but you have clicker questions so if you skip you'll get a zero for the questions done in class.
Dr. Du is definitely the best Chem professor for 1211. He explains things very thoroughly and will meet one-on-one. The class itself is difficult, but Dr. Du makes it bearable.
Chem is hard regardless but I definitely recommend Du for chem 1211. He is very accessible outside of class and truly cares about his students. His power points are really good summaries of the book.
chem at uga is just hard so be prepared for this class no matter what but if you at all can get Du!!! he is such a nice guy and by far the best out of the other options. He actually teaches some and its super helpful. Either way the class is hard and you have to know that when considering it but Du is by far your best shot professor wise.
I can tell you that Dr. Du is a great professor. His knowledge and passion for chemistry are obvious, and he works though each problem in class. Chemistry is a lot of work regardless but Dr. Du is a great choice.
Dr. Du is the sweetest guy! Chemistry sucks no matter who you get, but Dr. Du made it bearable. He really wants you to do well, and he will answer every question you have and work through any problem you ask him to do. Really wants you to succeed. He has a really heavy accent that makes it a little hard to understand him, but you'll get used to it.
Dr. Du is the best you can get from the chem department at UGA. The only thing that really makes his class any different from the rest is that he is at least caring and nice during class/office hours. No matter which professor you get the classes are the exact same so it really doesnt matter. He tries to help but he cant do much.
Came in Undeclared. Took this to see if I could do it. IT IS FLIPPED CLASSROOM MEANING YOU HAVE GOT TO READ AND QUIZ YOURSELF ON YOUR OWN. TAKE CHEM IF YOU WILL FOCUS ON CHEM. He still gave me extra credit even when I only did one. There's no way I would have a c- w/o his help in boosting my grade. It was my fault though. DO TOPHAT. NO EXCUSES BRO!
Chemistry is a monster here at UGA, but Du is a shining light that helped me get through it. The lecture the day of the test he'll go through what you need to know and those problems always show up on it. His accent isn't bad at all, it's just a Korean accent. Definitely take him!!
He's honestly the sweetest man alive. Du can be a little difficult to understand sometimes, but you can tell that he really cares about his students and will help you any time that you need it.
Dr. Du is the only professor I would advise to take for CHEM 1211. He actually gave useful notes and it was clear that he wanted students to succeed. I got at least a 90 on every test and all I did was read the assigned textbook material, attend every class, and rewrite all of the notes on the PPTs. Du was very helpful when I emailed him as well.
There's lots of webassign for this class, but you can't really avoid that for CHEM1211. As far as the chem department goes, he is UGA's last hope and is a real gem that wants his students to both understand and succeed.
He tries but doesnt explain things at all.
Congrats if you made it to Chem 1212 at UGA. Your best option as far as professors go, is Dr. Du. He does everything he can to help his students succeed in the class. The class will have a lot of reading and homework regardless, you just need to find what works best for you. He has a fairly thick accent, which makes him adorable when teaching.
PREPARE FOR THE NEVER ENDING HOMEWORK, if you aren't studying 10 hours a night and sacrificing your entire social life then supposedly you can't pass chem. even with a sweet professor, you can still end up doing bad if they are incapable of teaching
Dr. Du was amazing! He really cares about his students and wants them to do well! Although Chemistry isn't an easy class, he really does his best to make sure everyone does well! He is a really great teacher, and if I ever had to take Chemistry again, I would definitely take him! He's the best!
Du is your best choice when it comes to freshmen chem. He is a really caring guy and super accessible outside of class. Attendance isn't mandatory but don't miss class!!! I learned more from his lectures than the textbook. He really explains everything in detail which helps. Go to his problem solving workshops! Chem isn't easy but Du does it best.
He is the best chem teacher I know of
Chem 1210 was very hard. You have to teach yourself everything and sometimes the reviews are wrong so it is hard to stay on the right track. Du is very nice but he doesnt teach much. He just kind of rewrites the answers on the board. It doesnt really matter what professor you have because in the end, youre teaching yourself.
Dr. Du is a very kind professor. The chemistry department is difficult but Dr. Du was always nice when I had questions after class & responded to my emails quickly. Some people have said his accent is difficult to understand, but personally I had no issues with it. If you have the opportunity to take him, I believe he is a solid choice.
Du is great! He cares for his students, and from what I've heard he is one of the best in the CHEM department. CHEM sucks here but he will make it a bit less sucky. Take Du if you can!!!!
Professor Du is the best. He was always willing to meet for office hours, and even during office hours, he loved just helping students. The accent and humor is just the icing on the cake. Please take him if you can.
Dr. Du is awesome as a professor. The quizzes on webassign (the progress checks) are just so overly difficult though. Typically they are way above the level that appears expected from lectures and textbook reading and often after past any information you've been taught. Dr. Du does everything he can to help this and prepare you for them and tests.
Dr. Du is probably your best bet for chem 1212. He's a really nice guy and truly cares for his students. If you go to his office hours or workshops he'll work with you until you completely understand the material.
Dr. Du is honestly the best. He is really kind and is always making sure the class has a full understanding of the material before moving on. He hosts reviews before every class and even before exams to really make sure you have a thorough understanding. He is great during office hours and lectures very well explaining hard concepts easily.
Du is the best option for chem compared to the other professors, but honestly the class annoyed me. He speaks really fast and his accent made it difficult to understand lectures in class since we dont have much time to linger on topics, so you cant ask him to clarify.
Chemistry sucks regardless at UGA... but professor Du is your best option. His lectures go by fast and his accent can be difficult at times, however, he will do his best to help you outside of class and his resources are the best out of all the professors. My semester was online during COVID-19, so I don't have the most experience with him in class
1. CHEM1210 is a solid choice if you've struggled with chem before and you're nervous about taking CHEM1211. 2. Du cares a lot about his students and he does his best to help. He's kinda quiet, but he uses a mic so you'll have no problem hearing him.
Dr. Du is literally a sweetheart. Gen chem is tough but he makes it bearable. He cares about his students and is so kind. Best option for gen chem!!!!
He is a solid choice for CHEM 1210. The class has a lot of work for an intro class though. We had lecture worksheets, lecture videos to watch, problem-solving and recitation worksheets as well as reading and progess checks every week. If you are not organized you will suffer
Dr. Du is really nice, and despite the heavy accent explains concepts pretty well. He coteaches with Dr. Jensen, who is also very nice. They both are quick to respond to emails as well. Tests are kind of difficult and you're going to have to study for them. Overall a solid choice for UGA chem (lol)
Dr. Du was a good professor and a good choice for CHEM 1212. Although, he was not the professor making the tests, he did a good job preparing us for them. His accent is very strong, but overall not extremely difficult to understand. I really enjoyed his class and would definitely recommend him!
Dr. Du is definitely a gem of the Chem department at UGA. He can sometimes be difficult to understand with his accent, but he explains concepts extremely well. He does tons of practice problems in class that really help with homework and tests. Expect a normal amount of homework from a chemistry class. Definitely recommend him!!
Dr. Du is a good professor. The only problems really are the UGA chem department, but that's not Dr. Du's fault. He also has a strong accent so the first week or two will be pretty rough until you get the hang of being able to understand him. He was always willing to help out with figuring out problems and would definitely recommend him!
The class 1212 itself is terrible, but Dr. Du is very kind and good at his job. His lectures were good enough to allow me to not read the textbook almost ever. There were many practice problems in class, which helps to get ready for the tests. The tests in CHEM are really difficult and this class is a full time job, but it isn't Dr. Du's fault.
Dr. Du was amazing! Chem at UGA is very difficult in and of itself but Dr. Du made a lot less stressful. His lectures were simple and straight to the point, his homework while difficult was manageable, and he was always willing to help you on certain questions. For a school with a notoriously difficult Chem department, Dr. Du is the one to choose!
Dr. Du was such an amazing teacher. He's really great at explaining topics during lectures and really wants his students to understand the material. We did a lot of practice questions during class that definitely helped with preparing for exams. His accent can be a little difficult to understand, but you get used to it. Definitely recommend him!!
I loved Dr. Du! He answers emails in a heartbeat which helped me get instant feedback when I was confused about a question. The class itself is hard but this professor makes it way easier than it would probably be with another professor. His accent was hard to depict at first but after a week, he was extremely easy to understand!
Dr. Du is not a bad teacher especially according to chem standards. Hes pretty meh. Its hard to learn in class even if you pay attention because he goes too slow through unimportant topics and too fast through important ones. He doesnt respond well to emails. I received an A by teaching myself the material through online videos.
Overall, great professor if you're debating between chem 1212 professors. He speeds through a lot of the slides, but he has so much practice and such high-quality powerpoints. If you review the powerpoints maybe once (with genuine thought), all the concepts make perfect sense. Willing to answer questions and help if needed. Would recommend.
Dr. Du is rly knowledgeable and wants you to learn, but he blows through the hard topics & takes his time on the simple ones. He's quick with mental math & skips steps when reviewing problems. If you dont understand strong accents or bad handwriting, DONT take his class. Most of the ppl in my class I asked were equally as lost & confused as I was.
Class is fast paced making hard to learn contents during class. Do your hw and review recitation worksheets and you'll be good in tests.
He explains things very well and has lecture material. however he has a thick accent and wears a mask and talks really fast. sometimes lectures are boring. however he is a pretty good teacher.
Dr. Du is a good option for the UGA chem department. He does tend to fly through lectures rather quickly, but is happy to explain things and talk outside of class. Most of the issues with chem are departmental, so he's a decent option if you have no choice but to take chem. Regardless of who you have, it's a lot of self-teaching
Dr. Du is the best option to take if you have to take chem 1212. Gen chem is hard by itself but his lectures go over almost everything that is going to be on the exam. As long as you pay attention and ask questions you'll do good.
Dr. Du is great! His lectures are very thorough and he posts annotated slides to eLC that are great for studying before exams. He also provides plenty of practice questions in addition to the ones he does in class. The class is still difficult but Dr. Du makes it much better!
Dr. Du was really good at explaining concepts. Flipped classroom but his lectures clarified a lot and he always had a good way to phrase a concept to help you understand it. Before tests he went over the material again and emphasized what would/would not be on the exam. The reading & progress checks were annoying but not a big deal. I loved Dr. Du!
He is one of the best gen chem lecturers at UGA and actually wants to help students out. He goes fast during lecture and is sometimes hard to understand but actually goes through PowerPoints and the lectures. He will also go over things on the test day that he knows will be on it.
Dr. Du is hands down your best option for CHEM 1212. His lectures are great and going through his powerpoints by myself was one of the best ways to study for the tests. He is very willing and able to answer any question you have and is also just a really nice guy. I would not have done nearly as well in the class with a different professor.
One of the best professors you can have for CHEM 2! Very educated, willing to help you understand topics better, and answers questions well. Goes over material on tests the week of (may move slow but don't worry, y'all are never behind!) Can talk kind of fast but he's just nervous. Super caring and understanding of difficult situations/sicknesses.
Chem2 will be hard no matter who you take, but Dr. Du is a great option. He genuinely cares about his students' successes and posts lots of helpful practice problems/PowerPoints to eLC. You will put in a LOT of work for this class. Be prepared to teach yourself no matter which prof you take, but he provides a lot of resources to help you succeed.
Dr. Du was nice but chem 2 is terrible no matter who you take. I really couldn't follow his lectures so I gave up the second week of class. His accent is fairly strong so he can be hard to understand at times. I probably would have taken Ellenburger because she makes the tests if I could do it over again. Get science guys if you want to understand.
LOVE Dr. Du. Highly recommend taking him. He has a strong accent which takes some getting used to and talks super fast. But, go to class and listen, he does a great job explaining concepts. Definitely do not miss the classes before exams because he reviews the important topics. And go to office hours!
CHEM 1212 was a really difficult course, but Dr. Du would go over my tests, quizzes, and homework with me. He was always willing to do what was necessary to get me to understand the material and provide fair grades. Sometimes I had a hard time asking him questions bc I'm not sure if he always understood what I was asking, but other than that 10/10!
I love Dr. Du! I did bad in 1211 but ended Dr. Du's class with an A. If you attend his lectures and office hours, you can definitely get an A. He answers questions for as long as you need during office hours and he tells you the best ways to prepare for exams. You can tell he wants everyone to do well. One of my favorite professors at UGA.
Dr. Du is already so sweet and accommodating! He explains concepts very clearly. Most of the problems with the course are because of the department, so there is not much you can do about that. Dr. Du is so approachable and makes sure that all of your questions are answered.
Dr. Du is very kind and cares about his students. Chemistry is a hard subject and I would recommend purchasing science guys no matter what professor you get. 50% of the time I didn't really know what he was lecturing about in class, but that was more so my fault than his. He sometimes talks too fast, but he's better than the rest of them.
Chem will suck at UGA, but if you pay attention in lecture I think Du is a great option!
Dr. Du was an amazing professor. It was evident he wanted his students to succeed. I went to his office hours weekly to go over concepts I didn't understand. He gave thorough explanations that were easy to understand. I only have to add that the class was a firehose of information. I felt like I never had enough time to learn the material.
He gives you EVERYTHING you need to know. I 100% attribute my success in Chem 2 because of him. He teaches to the exam and is overall super accessible and caring. He explains why answers are wrong and will give answers to class questions before he closes them. I NEVER read the book and did not buy science guyz and made 89+ on all exams. TAKE HIM!!!
Du is a great option for chem classes. He is a bit hard to understand at times, but he gives good lectures and does lots of practice problems in class. Overall, chem1212 was much easier for me than 1211, and I did a lot better on assignments. Definitely utilize the online lecture slides and videos, it helps a lot!
Definitely one of the better options for Chem at UGA. He does TONS of examples during class and is very good at explaining and going slow, but this means his class often runs behind so it's hard to do the recitations. He really wants to help if you ask him questions!
I loved Dr. Du! He has been the first professor to truly help me understand chemistry. Although his lectures could be a boring at times, he did a great job at explaining concepts and working through problems with the class. He can move fast at times, but as long as you pay attention in class you should be able to keep up. I definitely recommend!
I thought this class was fine. I usually self-studied the videos available on elc. The course structure is similar to chem 1211 but you have 4 unit tests compared to 5. Du provided a lot of problems that helped me learn, so I would say he is a solid option for chem 1212.
Dr. Du is a fantastic person, BUT he is an awful teacher. I loved him to death but we were always behind on material and often would have to cover an entire chapter two classes before the test. He starts every class with about ~20 minute review from last class, which helps you understand anything you didn't last time, but takes up soooo much time.
Dr. Du was such a caring professor who really wanted his students to succeed. My largest issue was that he was very difficult to understand and had chaotic notes. Otherwise, I would recommend him. He also gave away the answers to most of the in class questions too so participation is easy.
dr. du changed my life. i love him. ive already graduated and i still think about him every day.
Dr. Du is a fantastic option for Chem. His powerpoints were extremely detailed and he posts the annotated versions. I studied simply that and the practice problems he provided and I made an A on every test. I did not have to open the textbook even once, except for the usage in reading and progress checks. He is a sweet person wanting to help us!
He's sweet but his accent is very hard to understand sometimes. Dr. Du is like one of the best for chem. Go to his office hours if you want to do good; he's such a sweetheart
Chem at UGA sucks, but he made it bearable. He had a thick accent but that just meant you had to pay careful attention, this was good because it forced me to learn. He would spent a lot of time explaining concepts, but his annotations were often chaotic. Very sweet guy, would definitely take again.
