two long and hard papers; friendly and helpful
This was the hardest 100 level class I ever taken, hard tests,
Best class I've ever taken..best sociology teacher ever!!!
best teacher I ever had, but don't take if you're scared of hard work
most amazing prof ever! She is absolutly brilliant. extremely difficult classes, but you will walk away a better person.
The most I have ever learned in a class...EVER
These ****es don't know what they are talking about, she's crazy. She assigns a HUGE workload and makes the tests extremely hard for no reason. Do not take this professor under any circumstances unless you absolutely have to.
she is a great teacher. Was the hardest class I ever had, but learned a lot that helped me with other classes. If you can get through this class, you can breeze through any other class!!
Amazing, brilliant... hard tests, but the curve and extra credit make it so easy!!! Really opens your mind!
HARD CLASS requires a lot of work, Would be better if taught by a different teacherTeacher doesn't explain things well. Has a bit of an attitude. Makes students cry. BIG ON PLAGERISM overcite everything. If you can get around taking the class do it.
best teacher i have EVER had. its a hard class, but you learn. final is VERY hard, but after completing, i actually felt like i had done something, actually wish more classes were like this.
If you have an extra 20 hours a week laying around take this class thats what it will take I'm not kiddding it was crazy and she may be also. two thirty page papers plus two tough exams on a computer program that you have to learn from scratch
hard work great teacher
i think she may be a member of the communist party! all she ever talks about is how the U.S. needs to be a welfare state and how the government should be everyone's mommy and daddy. just another example of how colleges liberally brain wash students
I did not remember anything after this class was done,so useless. Not to mention that she is one of the hardest graders i have ever seen and is even harder on papers then on tests. WARNING DO NOT TAKE THIS HORRIBLE TEACHER. she does not even talk about
I learned a whole lot in this class. Not much work, mostly group discussion. It's very interesting until the last 15 minutes where your mind can't take the stress of how society is and what your future is lol. It's kinda fun though. Fairly easy test.
This class requires TONS of time. Two huge papers:the first one she babies u through, the next ur on ur own. Tons of information but if you are a soc major or plan to do something in the field then it is extremely valubale information. Awesome woman!!!
she's a great teacher, but damn, if i have to hear about the baby boomers ONE MORE TIME!!!!
This class was a little too easy, but her lectures were still interesting, considering the class was somewhat of a joke.
this class sucks
She's knowledgable about the subject material. Tests are pretty easy- DO THE READINGS! She may allow you to use a notecard-but you still need a general knowledge. group discussion & work. take notes on lecture as well. (This class is super boring!)
Very tough class, but you learn a lot. Garcia explains everything carefully and thoroughly. Two long papers - 20 pages and 30 pages. You'll hate the workload, but once you're done you'll get a sense of accomplishment.
I am not interested in sociology at all so maybe that's why I don't like the class. There are quizzes every week on book material and articles (you get to make a notecard to use on the quiz though) but you WILL have to read. Nice professor though...I just don't like the topic.
this is a tough class but its the only class that actually learned something. 2 long papers but she holds your hand through the first one.
HARD CLASS but you learn. Tons of reading and quizzes every week. Midterm and final are extrememly hard. Grades fair for the most part. Is very willing to help you understand if you get lost. lectures are mostly interesting. If you have to take the class for you major take it with her.
hard... way too knowledgable to be teaching an intro class. nice person will help you if you request help
If you can take a different class or teacher, do it. Only helps you if kiss her ***! Ignorant and grumpy! No Understanding!
She makes you read a lot but she is always willing to help if you get lost or dont understand. Make sure you do the reading! Her test questions come right from the readings! She relates the material to everyday life and her personal experiences, which makes it more interesting. Awesome teacher!
If you have never taken a Sociology class, or at least 2 of them... DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS! You will fail. Alot of it is from previous classes. Just because its a gen ed. don't take it. It's hard. 30 page Mid Terms and 30 page Final. U be the judge.
Dr. Garcia is an extremely intelligent woman who demands her respect, and rightfully so! I am in a class with very rude people and it angers me to see them treat her disrespectfully. She truly wants everyone to learn and be able to walk out of class still thinking. I highly recommend her.
Garcia is extremely intelligent but also extremely hard. Take this class if you want to learn as much about sociology as possible, but you will have to work your butt off to get an A.
she is very smart but the tests are really hard... shes alright
Her tests are hard, but she gives lots of opportunities to make up points. She'll pile on work all of a sudden. The class is interesting and discussions are cool, but she expects a lot out of you too, so study!
hated this class, shes overly obsessed w/ soc and hates you if you're not. The tests are hard, and allthough the info can be easily explained, she finds some way to complicate everything. I didn't like her teaching style, and allthough shes obviously intelligent, she doesn't know how to teach.
She is never in a good mood and will always take it out on you!so watch out!very unorganized, unclear, and all over the place. Reteaches things she already taught then gives tests on things we never went over and told us she taught us that already! NOT the best teacher. If you can TAKE W/A DIFF PROF
This is a very hard class. She makes it that way. Her tests are extremely hard but you get to use a note card with notes. Don't ask questions because she'll make you feel dumb. No papers. Alot of reading assignments that are boring. Do NOT reccommend her at all!!!
TERRIBLE! put info on a test when she never went over ANY of it! so frustrating. hated her...and now hate sociology. you can probably find a professor MUCH better
NOT a good teacher and not much nicer either.walked in her class looking forward to sociology, and now i can't wait to get out of it.her teaching style is all over the place, which makes note taking very difficult. tests are whack too.the other professors in soci are much better - go for them first!
Dr. Garcia is one of the smartest people I have ever met. The class is hard, so be prepared to have lots of time for it. There are quizes, two HUGE papers, a mid-term and a final. She is an excellent teacher, so if your interested in actually learning this stuff take her!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!tests are so hard and full of info she said she went over but didnt, she rewrites notes on the board and thinks she went over new stuff. i agree with what one person said below, do not ask ?s cuz she is determined to make u feel dumb.she made me so UNinterested in the subject and i am dreading the final. merr
one of the best teachers ive had at towson. very helpful and encourages you to come to her with questions or problems. Take advantage of the available tutor and do the work when you're supposed to. I ended up writing a 25 page paper in one night..it was not fun. you'll feel so much smarter having completed this class but it is a LOT of work.
She's wonderful, but her class sucks.
Great teacher! Horrible difficult class, she offers her assistance and a tutor take her up on the help w/ out it you will not pass!
its a tough class, a lot of material and you are pretty much on your own for the final paper which was the roughest thing I ever wrote. That said you will get something out of this class as it really teaches you how to structure papers and research information. She is a good teacher, very smart and willing to help but she is a total left wing liberal and loves to express her political and social views any chance she gets.
I was very excited to go to this class but the first day I went, I was dreading the rest of the semester. She's not very clear with intructions with homework because she posts it on the internet and is hard to get 100% right.
CRAZY! thats about all i have to say. She paces around the classroom the whole time and yells at you if you say one word. Quiz every week, requires a lot of studying and reading. The class is pretty hard and she doesn't make it any easier. I wouldn't recommend her
i DREADED this class every week. the tests are extremely difficult if you don't get the concepts right from the start. there are assignments almost every week, but tests are pretty much guarenteed weekly. extra points at the end of the course if you're willing to do some pretty intense work. she paces around the class, and is intimidating, but nice
Excellent teacher if you love the topic and are prepared for a lot of work. If you're not into it, don't bother because it'll be the worst 3 months of your life. If you love what the class is all about (statistical analysis, empirical research reports) and see yourself using it in the future this will be the most rewarding 3 months of your life.
The HARDEST teacher EVER. Unbearable amounts of reading, that is HARD and incomprehensible. Work, notes, quizes, test are never ending. Quizes and tests are VERY hard. If you have to take this class, take it by itself.
This is the only class all semester that I feel actually taught me somthing. This class makes you work, but you will do well if you read and make good note cards. This is my 3 hour class, and not once has it ever been boring. Weekly quizzes, but they are not as hard as everyone is making them out to be! Take this class!
She's very knowledgeable aout the subjest matter and really gets you thinking. However, the students are held to too high a standard and the workload is too large for a GenEd. I like her style of lecture, but i wouldn't recommened taking this class if you don't have to based on difficulty alone.
A passionate teacher with strong expectations for her students. Extremely helpful and encouraging. Large amounts of reading, some very interesting. A thought provoking class with weekly quizzes. A mid-term and final essay. After mid-term, there are weekly essays, no quizzes.
PLEASE don't let the other people on here fool you into thinking you have a legitimate chance on passing this class. Take my advice. DON'T TAKE IT. Half our class already dropped, including myself.
Please do not take this class, she is rude and very uncaring. The work is difficult because she does not teach the class. The students are expected to teach the class and then you are tested on the readings. I was very disappointed in the class. By the end of the semester almost half of the students dropped the course.
by far the worst teacher ever! shes crazy and only wants you to fail. she only gives tests that are impossible to do well on. she picks favorites and teaches her opinions! total ****!!!!
She's pretty tough, kinda rude. She seems to have an attitude with the students all the time. Makes you do a lot of work, and there's a lot of reading. Expects everyone to know everything and if you don't she's pretty nasty. The material on the tests is straight from the readings, but it's a lot. Lets you use notecards, but avoid her if possible.
F this lady! She is the worst teacher with the worst attitude. DO NOT TAKE HER if you want to pass. She knows nothing and cares for nobody. She absolutley SUCKS!!!
Interesting class, and it feels very rewarding once you've completed the course. It definitely helps prepare you for writing in the future, and gets you out of that high school/basic college style of writing. Very time consuming, and she doesn't play games so get the work done!
this class is challenging but in a good way. you MUST read every week because there is a quiz at the begining of every class but you get to make a 5x8 notecard to use. midterm and final were papers. short paper is due every week. the second half of the semester you're put in groups to present the material to the class. read the book and it's easy!
She's pretty tough, but is extemely knowledgeable on the subject. She expects a lot from you, but if you do the readings and keep up with the work it makes the class much easier to follow. (obviously)
One of the first phrases out of Garcia's mouth was "if you don't have the time to spend at least 15 hours a week on this class, leave now." Extremely difficult class, but so worth it. She'll make you a better writer, reader, and you'll understand the world in ways you've never considered before. If you can dedicate yourself, you'll do well.
disrespectful towards students, very condescending, assigns a lot of work, has favorites, acts like her class is the only class students are taking
SO so understanding. I had several mental breakdowns in her office... Material is definitely tedious, but DOABLE. Expects a lot of students, but it encourages you to expect a lot of yourself. Those not prepared to write 65 page papers, RUN.
extremely condescending, close minded, mean and hard teacher. avoid teacher at all costs!
She teaches a class about being open to other cultures yet she is the most close minded, condescending teacher ive ever had or seen. She WILL pick favorites in her class She feels as if her intro level class suddenly deserves as much work if not more than a 300 course. If u like writing tediously long essays & have no opinions of your own than join
Only two tests and two papers so the grade rides on a lot. Papers are long but she allows half of the semester to work on them and offers a lot of help. Walks you through everything. Very interesting class, will learn a lot of helpful writing and computer skills, pretty work intensive. Dr. Garcia is a great teacher.
This class sucks. Take research methods or anything else. There are two 33 page papers and the mid-term is hard. She wants you to buy the SPSS program which is a $100, dont buy it, its a waste of money. Hard class to get through, material hard. It will make your semester a living hell. Dont take this class!
Let me clear this up real quick. I had Dr. Garcia for Soc. Theory and she really isn't that bad. If you're a slacker, lazy, and refuse to work, then this class is going to suck for you. If you do your work, she'll notice, and then she won't be the root of all evil as others have described her to be. Stay on top of your work, and you'll get an A or
I work two full time jobs, have a family (wife and small child), and still pulled this class off. Garcia is a tough professor but very fair. If you put the time in, you will do fine. I struggled with the time portion only because of work and family. Forget the lame postings below. Garcia is awesome! You'll learn alot.
Tough class If you can fit research methods and an advanced writing class in ur schedule then do it the 2 term papers are crap and require a lot of work and you will never use the info again unless your a socio analyst. teacher has a bad attitude and really isnt willing to help all that much no text but SPSS costs $100
hardest class i've ever taken, ever. garcia knows what she's talking about, but do NOT get on her bad side. Alot of work due every week, a midterm and final paper. DO YOUR READINGS AND TAKE GOOD NOTES!
One of the hardest courses I've EVER taken.Dr.Garcia challenges and frustrates you at times but she was ALWAYS willing to work with you if you were mature about dealing with things.I worked very hard and really earned her respect. She met with me for lunch (and treated!) after graduation and wrote me one of the best recommendation letters ever
Dr. Garcia is the best Professor at TU. I learned more in her classes than any other. Yes, she has high expectations, but you need to learn to write intelligently and she challenges you intellectually. A great teacher because she knows how really teach about subjects needed for your future. A wonderful person, but especially an engaging teacher!
I really didnt think this class was that hard. You just have to show up, do the work in a timely fashion, and ask for help when needed cause its always there. You learn to use the SPSS program and use it to write a paper. Shes always there to help and theres a teacher assistant as well. You follow her instructions and youll be fine.Keep up w/SPSS
Gives GREAT LECTURES. Attendance is mandatory. She's really nice. Gives lots of work, but hey, it's college.
She is the best kind of professor you can possibly get. She expects the world from you, but she's kind and helpful and knows what she's doing. Take her class seriously and you'll succeed. This might be one of the hardest classes I've ever taken but for once I feel like I really earned the A I got.
book was inexpensive especially if bought used. It is also a very easy read. She says she doesn't lecture from the book but I find that a lot of her lectures are close to the book. No complaints here. She does give a lot of work but it's not as bad as most. Show up, do not sleep, and read, you'll be fine.
THEEE hardest class I have ever ever taken..the material is extremely dry and a waste of time..you teach yourself everything you need to know because all assignments are due before the topics are discussed in class, be willing to spend at least 5+ hrs/week preparing. Do not take this class unless you absolutely need to!!!
This was probably one of my favorite sociology classes that I have taken, however if you expect to get an A you need to have good writing skills and put a bare minimum of 4 hrs in a week. The readings in the beginning of the year are boring, but they get more interesting. She also puts a lot of time into grading your work.
Never take her two classes together, there is a lot of work and when she doesn't like you, she will let you know
Not very organized. For a teacher whose obsessed about editing you find mistakes and errors all through her course materials. Shes not the most clear about what she wants. I felt lost most of the time and was cramming the work in every week so I didn't feel like I got what I should have out of it. do not take her for 2 classes in one semester.
Covers a lot of material in class. Lets you have index cards for tests. She is really helpful and covers interesting stuff after the first test, which is all theory. Tests are graded pretty harshly, but do okay on the portfolio and you'll get a decent grade. Don't talk or sleep or text incessantly, she'll get really mad. Otherwise, not horrible.
A LOT of material and you def have to read the book and attend class. A portfolio of hw and writings is handed in at the end which helps A LOT with your overall grade, because you WILL do badly on exams. i got a 79 on one and 98 on the other. lets you use a note card during exams but it doesn't help your grade the way you think it would
her class covers a ridiculous amount of information but she is always available to help you. go to the ULA sessions whether there is a quiz or not, they help make the material more comprehensible. always make a notecard for tests, and work hard on the mid term and final. i spent about 5-6 hours per week outside of class preparing for it.
HAVE TO READ THE CHAPTERS... Wasn't that hard of a class... Allows you a lot of absences and is very fair with due dates... Lets you bring a note card to tests... Read the book and follow the syllabus and you can easily get an A otherwise don't bother taking her...Final portfolio counts for most of your grade
Hardest class of my life but very rewarding. My papers were 25 & 50 pgs. As an AWC and research methods, its def 2 classes in 1. Garcia was VERY availabile & helpful for the final paper. DO NOT procrastinate or wait before you ask for help. She helps walk you through a lot of the paper. But DO NOT miss a class! No text & you dont have to buy SPSS.
Once you understand it, its a breeze. Until you do, its terrible! For students who need help, she's not willing or degrading in explaining. Her attitude is not proper and over stressed. Makes students feel belittled.
Probably the hardest class you can take, but Dr. Garcia knows what she is doing, knows what she wants you to do, and will teach you how to write a professional-grade research paper. If you're thinking about grad school, this is definitely the class to take. GO TO CLASS and follow her directions and you'll come out way ahead of most undergrads.
Prof Garcia knows what she is talking about and is willing to help. There's a lot of reading so definitely keep up with it. She lets you use note cards on the tests but they dont help too much so do the maximum number of homeworks and you should get a pretty good grade. Don't talk or text in her class, she hates it.
Dr. Garcia is a very nice and helpful professor! The tests are alright, she lets you use large note cards for them, and the final was optional for my class. There is a lot of reading are 4 required homework assignments but doing extra homeworks will help your grade A LOT! Overall a great experience with this class.
this was the worst teacher ever!! her tests were insanely hard and everything she talked about made no sense. she taught a 100 level class like a 300 level. you had at least one # page essay due a week some are optional but they do not even make any sense. she easily gets mad when people dont understand her or dont get the concept she is teaching.
There are a lot of assignments which means many ways to boost your grade. Just do the work, read the text book for the tests and you'll be fine. Class is basically just discussions but she never makes you feel stupid and even if you give her the wrong answer she'll make it seem relevant. Overall a nice, knowledgeable professor.
Ignore the negative comments. She comes off as very intimidating-she isn't. Shes intelligent and she wants her students to succeed. Work hard, youll learn a lot. If you need help GO SEE HER! and I swear, you'll come out with a fair grade.
really nice professor! gives alot of work at times, but if you do it, you will succeed. suggest taking it with her.
Garcia is an incredible professor. She comes off as very intimidating and strict at first, but she's very actually very easy to talk to and definitely is willing to help you personally if you are having a hard time either academically or personally. She's smart - knows her stuff! I recommend her for SOCI101-
I really didn't take her class, but she appears to be interested in Sociology. This means she knows her stuff. My roommate bragged about her so much. So,I sat in one of her classes to see this teacher in action. If you want to learn, then take her class.
This is a very hard, but rewarding class. If you actually come to class and pay attention it is totally do-able. People who say she is rude or not helpfull are the students who dont come or dont pay attention. Based on your effort in the class determines how she will treat you.
So unorganized! so many mistakes everywhere and you never know what chapter you are on or what you should be reading in order to prepare for class. Tests have nothing to do with the lectures and even if they did her lecture notes are terrible too. DONT TAKE HER!
dont take sociology with her! i was interested in the subject until i took this class. she is so unorganized and does not teach at a 101 class level. does allow a 5x8 notecard for her multiple choice tests but they are hard to comprehend her questions. lectures are so boring and pointless. i wish i could have switched out of this class.
She's a good teacher and is well-learned about sociology, but teaches at a much higher level than a 100 level class. The tests are very difficult. Since the class has a lot of students, she isn't the easiest to get into contact with. I liked the course, but wish I had taken it with a different professor.
she is a nice lady and interested in the subject, however she is a hard grader and the course organization was confusing at times. I wouldn't recommend her, but if you do take her, study hard attend class and do your work and you will do ok.
If you want to go to Grad School I highly recommend this class. Two papers 30+ and 50+ pages are required as well as 1 or 2 tests on SPSS. She is not easy and expects a ton out of her students but is very willing to help and truly wants you to succeed. If you make it through you will feel both proud and as though you truly learned something.
Incredibly unorganized, the lectures are useless. Essentially, you teach yourself the course. Her exams an incredibly hard and are irrelevant to what she tells you to study. She becomes infuriated when no one knows the answer. If you take her class - study hard and study everything and Lord help you.
DO NOT TAKE HER! She is literally the worst teacher I've had at Towson. The material is unclear and she is all jumbled up when she lectures. The book is used a lot but the homework you get each night is way too much. She teaches the class like she is teaching to 400 level students and expects students to know everything. Horrible teacher.
PARTICIPATE! Extra credit given to those who do. It's an easy class as long as you do the readings and come prepared. Even doing the readings right before the exam is easy. Lectures are hit or miss in terms of fun or boring. Allows two 5x8 index cards for any or all notes on every exam. Powerpoints and notes can be found online. Attendance matters!
Awful teacher! Don't take her unless you have to
Not the easiest class, but it's not supposed to be. I thought she was great. She tells you EXACTLY what she wants. Practically writes the first paper for you and the second paper follows the same format. She is extremely helpful and sets a lot of her personal time aside to meet with each student. And you don't have to buy anything for the class.
Took her for a mini-mester, she made a long 3 and 1/2 hour class bearable and kept it interesting, let's you use two large note cards for tests, and gave us an exam only option or a exam, paper, and participation option for grading. Since it's a short semester, there's seemingly a lot of work, but it's definitely managable
Pay attention in class! Write notes and do the readings for homework. The tests are all multiple choice, and they are not terribly hard if you PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS! I found her class really interesting, and it wasn't as hard as everyone says it is.
This course was very interesting, but her exams were worded awfully and regardless of how much I studied, it was hard to get above a B on the three exams. She is also not very understanding of personal issues (even though she said she was at the beginning of the semester...) If you can, take it with someone else.
Great professor. This course required a lot of work and time, but she was very helpful. Would recommend her class!
Dr G. is a very passionate professor that will help you in all ways possible. She prepares you for grad school. 1 test, 2 papers. You have to work very hard, but it is very rewarding. She gives you everything you need in order to ace the class. Participate a lot and she will boost your grade. She is one of the best teachers at Towson!
So this professor is the worst if this is not your major. If this has something to do with your major then thats great but if not prepare to fail your other courses because all of your free time will be needed to finish her papers and assignments. There is no time to do these assignments . it's a lot of work thats due the next day .Goodluck guys
This class was one of the hardest classes I have taken but it was very enjoyable because she's super into letting class discussion take up the whole class. She's wants her students to do well, but the content is very hard. Make sure that you do all of the reading and take your note cards seriously because they will carry you through your exams.
Not an intro class she tells you multiple times that she thinks you should know more info. She gives three multiple choice test with the option of doing a paper for 20 percent of your test grade BUT both are extremely hard you need to take time to study ALOT or you will fail
She is an extremely tough grader. This was the most interesting, yet the most difficult class I took. Participation matters. She lets students use notecards on the exams, so make sure to take time and put effort into them otherwise you will not pass the exams. Her power points are not organized well, and class discussions often go off topic.
Professor Garcia comes off as scary at first, but she's amazing. She has a lot of energy and is easily the best pure lecturer I've had at Towson. The students guide the lectures and she will hear all viewpoints. You MUST read to pass this class! She lets us to bring note cards to tests and gives extra credit. PARTICIPATION POINTS! Show up!!
I have not come across anyone in the department so dedicated to their field. She is a fireball and she expects you to work as hard as she does. If you do, you will be rewarded. She does not mess around. Assignments and tests are hard but you will LEARN.
This class is very challenging but it was one of the best courses I took while at Towson. Professor Garcia will make you really work for your grade, and expect to be challenged, but she will help you and push your limits. This class prepared me for graduate school and working in the real world.
Good class with a good professor. I'm an accounting major, had to take this as one of my last core. Wasn't sure what this course could give me but actually got into it. There is a lot of participation but it's all for extra credit. I didn't participate but took an extra credit paper at the end. She curves the exams too. An easy A if you care enough
This class is REALLY hard but you will learn more than you ever have. Hardest class I've ever taken and I def broke down in tears once or twice. She does not play around and will not tolerate it. Work hard and she is willing to help you. I wouldn't take this class if it wasn't required though.
Attendance is mandatory, miss a class and lose 15 points off your grade. There's only really 2 big tests, but each are extremely difficult to get through. Don't expect a lot of help doing your paper or homework. She gives out homework like it's candy on Halloween, over 6 hours of work a week the entire time.
The tests are SOOO hard to understand in this class. She tells you that you should bring a dictionary for the test, and YOU SHOULD because you won't understand half of what she is asking. If the questions where worded in a way for better understanding, the class would have been a lot better for me!
Her tests are worded poorly and she is a harsh grader. I could not even get an A on any test .The average I scored was a B- and I did the writing portion. Take a different teacher if you can. Its hard to get an A in this class. Ended up with a B+ which brought my GPA down.
This is a tough class. I have never written so many papers ever. Professor Garcia is very knowledgeable about the subject, which is everything that is wrong with out health care system. She makes you think about a very important topic. I would take her again
This class was the hardest class I took at Towson. You write two big papers. The first one was around 30 pages, and the second one varies, but mine was 60. You have to work hard for your grade, but you learn a lot of good writing skills. Garcia is there to help you, you just need to take advantage of office hours. Also, take advantage of the ULAs!
Listen, if you don't plan to do anything with Sociology, don't take this course. I took this course because I wanted to graduate this semester and thought I could handle 18 credits. This course by itself is almost at a graduate-level. Like most of the reviewers, you will learn tons of information, but you have to WORK FOR IT. Get ready for hell.
This is bar far the hardest class I've ever taken. A little in terms of difficulty but mostly just the vast amount of work you have to do. It's unreal. Do not take this class unless you absolutely have to. Great teacher in terms of teaching, but the class is just ridiculous for an undergrad class. If you do take DO NOT WAIT TO DO YOUR WORK & ask ?s
Possibly the worst professor I've had. If you have trouble following her class, she shows no mercy and will do very little to clear things up for you. The class vibe is very stressful and she will make every assignment seem to be much harder than it is. If you can avoid taking her, I'd highly suggest it.
Nice teacher, interesting lectures. Gives credit to people who speak up in class but extremely hard tests! 3 tests and grade based only on tests.
Prof. Garcia is a gem! Though she may seem unapproachable in the beginning she is super nice and helpful. A couple of papers that are optional if you choose the writing plus exam option or you can do exam only. Opportunity for extra credit at the end of semester and if you participate very often you can get as high as a whole letter grade increase!
Boring class. She is very passionate and its not hard. 3 exams with big notecards you make to help. she gives you some answers day before. Read the textbook, follow reading questions she gives and study them. Take her lecture notes too not a lot. Exams are the only grades w/ extra credit essays, participation can boost you up a letter grade.
This class seems terrifying on day 1 but it's not as bad as it looks. Trust me. First part of the semester is spent learning SPSS and writing your first 30 page paper. Second part of the semester splits the class into basic and advanced to write a 30-60 page paper. Lots of homework and lots of writing but there is plenty of guidance and help.
She seems intimidating in the begging but she's actually very nice and the class was pretty easy. The class before your exam she gives you a practice test. All of those questions are on the exam! Write them down or record it. She allows you to use notecards on the exams which was really helpful. Only 3 tests. Come to class!!
Good teacher but difficult class. i had her for sociology 101, only 3 test that make up grade. she lets you bring note cards to test but no matter how much you write or study its impossible to get A on exam. grade on curve helps. must come to class. use text book a lot. participate in lecture for extra credit. not easy A. work for grade
Absolutely loved Garcia. While this class was probably the hardest thing I've ever done, it was well worth it and I learned so much about writing a research paper. Gaining the knowledge of SPSS was crucial for my resume. Garcia really cares about her students and works tirelessly to make sure she meets with everyone and helps them out. Must take!
It is hard to get a good grade in her class. You only have 2 exams and a final but they are hard to do well on. She makes you read a lot from the book and she never goes over you read. All she does is lecture so class is very boring.
She's very nice and approachable, but strict. You are only graded by 3 tests (and three optional writing assignment 6 pages each), which will decrease the weight of the tests. The homework isn't required, but you won't succeed if you don' do it. The extra credit boosted me by a letter grade, but you can't do it if you have >2 absences.
Good at teaching the concept of SPSS as its not the simplest to understand. She will help you understand it if your high speed but if your on the slower side or skip class your gonna have a tough time . A couple easy test but the two 30 page papers are the thing your gonna really have to worry about as most of the work will be done out of class
