His class can be hard but he's very dedicated to helping his students. I learned alot in his class.

He's fair, helpful, and really cares about students. Don't listen to the bad rating. That was from a student who didn't do any work and got mad because he tried to help her.

Honestly, I don't understand the negative comment. Will's classes are great; he consistantly goes out of his way to help students -- there's always one in his office. A great teacher and a true poet.

Will helped me enjoy writing poetry and made our class really come together. I came to every class I could because they were always pretty interesting.

Will is a funny professor, although he has a temper when you get him mad, just do what he asks for and get it in on time and he will be happy.

Mixed feelings about him. Can get overworked easily and takes too much concern in his students (is that a bad thing?) But has been known to "snap" at kids that dont care. If you are all about english take his courses, but if not, avoid the

I didn't get along with him very much and I absolutely hated all the work he made us do. But honestly, after it was over, he really is a good teacher and to my surprise I'm actually glad I took his class.

Will was a fantastic, helpful, and enthusiastic professor. He helped me a great deal with my writing and is really passionate about what he does. Just don't be late!

Will was the best prof. I ever had. He really helped me to become a better writer, and was ALWAYS there for his students when they needed help. I highly recommend you take his class cuz he really cares about his students

Will is extremely helpful. He loves writing and helps me see my own writing in some cool ways. Our class my favorite this term and he spent a lot of time helping me after class. I want to take more classes with him.

Will in the end is a good teacher, he gives you alot of work but he really does care about the students. He definally pushes you to get the best result that you might have not expected. . . Hates lazy people and when you miss classes.

Will's class was one of the most worthwhile classes I've ever taken. He gives lots of work and challenges his students, but he is very insightful and helpful. If you're willing to work hard, his classes have much to offer.

As an English major he made me feel so stupid. He made me feel like I was a piece of s*&%!! On the way out of a one on one meeting with him I was balling my eyes out because he basically said, I was a bad writer. Whatever I am still in the department doing just fine THANK U!!

i think he is great. thank you will i had a fun time in class. and for all those who didn't like him its probably because you made up too many excuses to save your ass when you were bs-ing. as for the person who had a death in the fam, im surprised he would do that. i had a family member in her death bed and he worked with me. granny is better now.

Will is a true poet and a kind teacher who believes in what and who he teaches. He's easily the best prof I've had so far at SCSU.

Will is all about making students better at writing. He is the most helpful teacher I've ever had and his classes are pretty fun.

I had Will a three years ago and I'm graduating but I thought I'd let you all know he's the reason I'm doing so well. He believed in me and taught me how to write for school. I thought he was hard but now I think he was just very good.

At first, Prof. Hochman seems tough!! BUT, what he says is true, if you work hard, it does pays off. I learned ALOT in his class, and developed as a writer so much. I really think his class helped me to become a 'college writer!' I would encourage anyone to take his class, if your not a slacker!

Will is not an easy professor, however if you take the class seriously you stand to learn alot about writing.

First of I have to say that will is an extremely challenging professor, but that is because he is willing to take average students and bring them into a new learning world. I feel as though Will was a great teacher and is very dedicated to his students and writing.

I really enjoyed Will's class because he pushed me to work harder. By the end of the semester my writting went beyond what I ever thought was possible. I admit that I worked my butt of in this class but it was well worth it. I came into his class with little confidence but came out knowing that I can write at the college level.

Will cares more about what he teachers than any other teacher that I have ever met. He is a cool guy and very animated. The class is difficult and he will try to scare you away, but if you put the effort in you will walk away from the class with a lot. Also, if you do the work he will like you. Make sure you talk in class...it helps

at first i thought the class was going to be a waste of time but my views changed, i liked his method (although it was a little strange).. dry sense of humor sometimes but he is a harmless nice professor. Grading is tough b/c you don't know your grade until the end of class.

Very cool teacher. He is hard and his class requires time and work.He can be kind of mean sometimes but i learned a lot in this class and would take it again. He makes class fun and uses interesting topics, not boring ones. If you take this course, make sure to think outside of the box.

I learned more from this professor about writing than any other writing teachers I've had. Awesome!

This guy not only knows writing but understands how to be cool online. Not the usual waste of tuition...

I didn't like him at first but once you get to understand his class, it's not bad and I think I learned how to write better.

My favorite so far! If youwork hard, you get his full attention and help. I wasn't good at writing but my grades improved inall of my classes when I followed Wills advice.

This little professor makes a giant impression on me. If you really want to learn how to write from a teacher who reads every words and cares about every student, Will's you teacher.

Very hard and worthwhile if you want to learn to write and like computers. If not, there are nicer teachers but he's interesting in most classes and though I hated the course I'm glad I took it with Will

Will is an ok professor. If you need help, he will help you. He embaressed people a lot if they were late a few times or if they said one word when he was talking. There are 3 papers but they aren't that easy. Mostly web based readings and you have to keep a blog about each reading. I personally wouldn't suggest him.

Creative writing with Will was a blast. He can give a lot of work, and expects you to do everything and -learn- from everything, but always willing to help & loves when you stop by the office. He is always honest, and with that, sometimes harsh, but doesnt mean to seem "mean." he is just very blunt. Great professor, one of my favorites.

He cares if you work hard and he will help you learn if you try. You can't hide in the back row though.

Will was great and I always looked forward to creative writing class. Uses technology a lot which is a breath of fresh air. Extrememly fair grader. Pretty funny guy. definately cares about his students and teaches with a lot of passion. Very open to letting you do things the way you want with your writing. I recommend Will highly.

Creative Writing was a blast. question: how come it wasn't a "W" course, if you think about it, the "W"ness is in the title of the class. other than that the class was alot of fun and I learned a donkey load of information.

Will is an amazingly caring person. One of the best professors at Southern; if you try to do your best, he'll always help you out. He's tough and makes sure you work your hardest, so if you're a lazy slacker dont expect to get an A. All he wants is for you to do your best and actually try. Lazy and uncreative slackers beware!

Will is the best in the school and taking his poetry class was the best choice I made so far.

Will is a hard teacher but he pushes you to do your best. You have to understand his sarcasm and just enjoy to laugh. Some people love him and other hate him so if your going to take him your must go into the class with an open mind. There is a lot of work to be done out of class, but class time was spent well. Will is always there to help also

This class was overwhelming at times due to the workload, but Will and his TA's were very helpful. I can't say I enjoyed this class entirely, but it will definitely impact your writing skills in a positive manner. Do NOT skip class, and do NOT skimp out on assignments. Will is not one to be messed with, and you will not pass if you're lazy.

Will is fair and hard. He let me slide when my dad was dying and helped me catch up. Some students complain but I could see my writing improve and used most of what I had to learn in this class in my other classes.

Will is intense and demanding and he's like a poem, I guess, a good poem most days. The course made me write more than you would think you would for poems. He really wanted me to try. I like the colostate site.

Will is extremely helpful! He truly does care about his students! He is a tough grader, but he is also extremely fair. You should complete the readings and blog times on time or else you will fall behind! Overall one of the best Professors I have ever had!

Will is great. You might feel slightly overwhelmed by his enthusiasm of the course at first, but as long as you keep up with the work and do your best to improve and participate, he will admire you as a student. If you're lazy and don't care he will most def put you on the spot. He strongly encourages office visits, and is extremely helpful.

Will knows how to help hard working students learn to write and he is always available. Take his class with a grain of salt and laugh at his antics. He's fair and lets students grade themselves

He gives you every opportunity to get an A, and will help you produce your best work. Do the blogs, think outside the box, and don't be afraid to speak up, and you'll have a guaranteed A. Oh, and make sure you go to class!!

Will is a pretty laid back guy. As long as you show effort in your poems/stories, blogs and participate in class, you'll be fine. Definitely go to his office hours because that's where I got the most help. He's a great professor and actually cares about his students.

With Will, there's little choice. Work hard and learn, or drop the course. He's a good teacher but makes us write all the time.

If you don't have tough skin don't take this class! He is very critical at times. People get offended but in reality he's just brutality honest and some people can't take that! I learned a lot from him and through the blogging to class discussions he helped me become a better writer. He is helpful & will work with you as long as you do your part.

If you care about your writing, take this class. If you want a professor who actually revises your work, take this class. If you want to read interesting things and learn a lot, take this class. If you care at all about your education, TAKE THIS CLASS!

This teacher gave every student in our class so much feedback but he taught us to take what we need to improve our stories and is a pretty easy grader if you do the work. There's probably too much work, but I'm glad I did it and I would take another class just to see how more my writing can improve.

Prof. Hochman is a character. You'll either love him or hate him. He has a lot of great insight and feedback to give. The most valuable hours I spent with him were 1 on 1 in office hours. Class is easier if you show up with a thick skin and ready to defend your ideas. Great guy who know his stuff, be ready to accept constructive criticism.

He's very nice & very passionate about English. He can be somewhat all over the place but he truly cares about his students success. Very accessible outside of class, extremely willing to sit with during his office hours and go through your entire essay and give you good advice and ideas to make your writing better.

He told me something like "you're not a great writer, but the ideas are too good to not give you a good grade." I'll never forget that. Will Hochman knew what really mattered. He cared about ideas and he cared about humanity. I miss him and I hope I can live up to the altruistic standards he imagined I'd live up to.
