Very interesting and approachable.
Dr. Jennings is very knowledgable about Africa. If you are interested in African politics and history, he is your man.
Jennings is a good guy. I had him for two different classes. He's no ****, but he's also very willing to help you out if you need it and his classes aren't THAT hard if you aren't THAT stupid.
Really interesting lectures. Lots of intriguing info. Includes entire class in discussion
Great professor, definitely will take again if I can. Not very hard, but you learn alot in the class. Makes an effort to get to know his students, and tries to help those he knows care about the class as much as he can.
Very nice and approachable guy

Mr. Jennings is awesome. He knows his stuff and you will learn a lot. Tests are not "easy," but he gives the student plenty of opportunity to succeed with assisance with writing assignments and providing extra credit. Study hard, show up, know your current events, and you will be successful.
though he is not gorgeous his personality makes him one hot tamale
Professor Jenning's class is very helpful. The class is pretty easy and most of the tests come straight from the book. He is very understanding and easy to talk to. I would recommend him.
the class is really interesting. tests are fairly easy. just read the material bc the test come straight from the book. offers tons of extra credit.
Okay professor but an really arrogent guy. Wouldve rather had a more difficult professor who wasnt an ass.
It was a GREAT class! He really ignited my passion in the area of international politics and I would recommend him to anyone as long as you have an interest and are willing to work hard. Also he is really approachable and one of the most friendly prof's @ UT. He is really excited about motivated students and will help you with anything! Try it..
Can't believe the words this person uses in class. The univ. needs to look into his lanugage and teaching professionalism. Don't take if you have a problem with bad lanugage in class.
Will Jennings is hilarious. Bring your papers to his office hours a few days before they are due and you're almost guaranteed an A. Also, he uses interesting, non-mainstream examples from the global south to illustrate big themes and ideas of the class.
Great teacher. If you can't come to class, dont bother taking it, though. Every test is solely based on class notes. Take all of your papers and questions to him before they are due. He is big on students attending office hours. Also, he seems very very knowledgeable on the things he is talking about. You'll definitely learn something.
Mr. Jennings knows his stuff. Although I wish there was more discussion in class, you learn a lot and the notes effectively correspond to the tests. Have him look over your analysis paper a few days before it's due and you have much better chances of getting an A. Participate VERY frequently and don't miss class.
Mr. Jennings keeps the class fun and interesting. He will help you as much as you ask for. He is big on class participation and the student's interest in the class. Don't text in his class though, you lose a days attendance.
Will is a good teacher - BASICALLY a good lecturer that uses lots of examples. Tests are straight from the notes, so don't even buy the textbook. Pretends to be objective with participation and projects, but if he likes you (you are an intelligent girl), you'll get a good grade. Sometimes sexual references are a little uncomfortable.
Jennings is certainly one of the most interesting characters I've ever encountered during my time at UT. Makes classes interesting with contemporary examples and language that is, in my opinion, understandable to the average student. Exams are directly from the notes and he reviews tha material with you before hand. I plan to take his classes again
Pleasant teacher, fairly interesting subject, but I would NOT take him again. Taking 4 pages of notes per class causes major hand crampage and if the sound of a chalkboard makes you cringe stay away. Hard tests covering tons of info, and a 20 page group paper with 35 sources? Please, get over yourself.
He gives to many notes, and only two exams. The material is interesting, but too much for only two exams. I wish I would have taken a different professor. Plus his exual references do cause on to feel uncomfortable. However I must say although I do not recomend him his personality does grow on you twords the end of the semester.
Tests and quizzes were pretty easy, graded paper leniently. Don't mess around with an attendance sheet. Funny.
He gives awesome notes, and lots of them. His tests do cover a ton of material (Mid-term and Final), despite his reviews before them. I studied significantly more for his tests than other classes and felt less prepared for them. The paper was graded well. The quizzes weren't too difficult. A quality class and you will learn a lot. Take him!
this teacher was terrible. he gave way too many notes and never expanded on what they meant. he gives a huge study guide for the tests and it doesn't prepare you for them at all. he is also rather annoying. i took this class because of the ratings on rate my professor. i'm telling you don't trust what people write on here. get another teacher
he gives a LOT of notes! his exams are way harder than they should be, the class is way too intense to be a 100 level course. he is a really nice guy and i really enjoyed his class but it was not easy so be prepared to STUDY!
Take good notes and read the book and you should get B+ and up
Very Good Teacher! Lots of notes but take them. Two big tests (MidTerm & Final), pay attention and study and you'll do fine. Read the book you'll do better, but not really necessary. Go to his office hours... he's a good guy. Hardcore at first then you get used to him and he's a softie.
He has a great deal of knowledge and is a very nice guy. His class is pretty interesting, but his tests are pretty specific. If you're taking his class, READ.
Jennings is enthusiastic, very knowledgeable, and funny. upbeat personality keeps the class very interesting, despite pages of notes (bring a laptop- much easier).you NEED TO READ to understand everything & be prepared for random pop quizzes, plus tests are extra specific, so it's obvious who's not ready. don't read or ATTEND, you won't make it.
Will is a pretty fun guy. He's funny and knowledgable and enjoys adding little jokes and quips that keep the class interesting. There are a decent amount of notes, but if you take them and use the study guide, you'll do fine. He's always available to help and is very approachable on campus. One of my favorite professors I've had in college. A must!
He may be easy for 102 but he's definitely not for an upper level class. It's really, really hard- the tests are incredibly specific and you have to read every day because he gives pop quizzes that are ridiculous. And you take so many notes every class that your hand feels like it's about to fall off- bad idea to take an upper level from him.
Will Jennings is definitely my favorite instructor. He keeps me interested in the topics he discusses in class, and he gives you very clear notes (though there are quite a bit of notes). Word of advice: READ, ATTEND CLASS, and PAY ATTENTION!!! It's the best advice I can give - because this class is very, very useful.
This was definitely an interesting class but was certainly not easy. There are a ton of notes, and you have to read everything. He is very willing to help you out and gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. You will learn a lot in this course but don't take it if you are looking for an easy upper level.
Really good teacher. Made class fun to attend. Has a great personality and is extremely helpful. Class is optional but you can't miss more than 8 plus the test is based more off of the lectures than the book.
He spends most of the class period looking at the chalkboard and writing which can get really old after a while. His tests are pretty hard but if you study for them you'll be okay. Make sure you do the readings because there's pop quizzes and they're ridiculous.
Jennings is a good teacher. He writes all of his notes on the board. Be prepared to write/type! Lots of notes to write. Read every week, because the 3 pop quizzes will come out when you least expect it. Exams are not too bad and the paper/answer sheet you do during the semester really boost your grade. GO TO CLASS!
Dr. Jennings is a great teacher! He is really really helpful, and the assignments are very clear. He only has two tests which I found to be the most difficult grades out of the whole class, but if you do the readings and study the notes you will be fine. Also gives studyguides for tests! Make sure you participate too!!
He gives pop quizzes after several of the readings. I took notes AHEAD OF TIME to study for the quizzes. I was accused of cheating in the class because I took my own notes and not his (which are taken from the book). Sexual references are annoying. He loves to hear himself talk. Great for future stenographers!
Doesn't round up. A 92.99 is an A- and an 89.99 is a B+. Has extremely high standard for what deserves an A. Tons of reading and 3 reading quizzes to make sure you read.1 is dropped. Very picky about participation grade. You must dedicate yourself very thoroughly to this class to do well. Great guy though-very nice and helpful when asked.
Kinda hard due to the length of the class, the amount of notes you have to take and the outside films you have to see. But if you can write a good compare & contrast essay, you can RULE those assignments. Had good jokes and he means well, but he let talkative students hijack the class discussions way too many times for my liking.
Really good prof. Knows his stuff. passionate. somewhat of an unnecessary smartass at times, but also kind of funny. hard class but enjoyed it.
Notes, notes, and more notes! His lectures started off a little bland, but in the second half of the semester the topics get a bit more interesting. He is very engaging, but the length of his classes seem to outweigh that. He's a bit of a tough grader, but he's very clear about what he expects. Tests are pretty tough, too, but they are manageable
Great teacher. You have to do the readings and participate but it is an upper level class. He wants students to do well so getting help is very easy.
This class is no joke - you have to read, attend class, take good notes, pay attention, and keep up with your assignments to do well. Tests aren't easy, but he gives good study guides. Will is very knowledgeable and always willing to help outside of class. I knew almost nothing about Africa beforehand, but this class ignited my interest. Take it!
This class was by far one of the most interactive classes, i've yet to to take at UT. Prof. Jennings has an intense lecture with TONS of notes, but they definitely came in handy during the Midterm/Final. I would strongly suggest taking Jennings for Political Science 102.
He was my favorite teacher. Great sense of humor and entertaining, lots of notes.. but worth it. Good class, and he challenged us.
A conscientious teacher who cares about his students. Forces you to take endless notes, but then gives you a study guide that puts the notes in perspective. His grading is fair, but pop quizzes force you to read. Ask for help if you need it and he will help you understand what you need to know to be successful.
So nice and helpful, but hands down the most boring class I've ever taken. Every class included at least 5 (computer) pages of notes. So much information to study for exams. It's hard to listen to him teach and understand the material when you're trying to take notes as fast as you can. I took it for my major, but I would not recommend it.
Mr. Jennings is the man. If your at all interested in learning while you spend money on college, take the man
Dr. Jennings is one of the best professors I've ever had. His topics are extremely interesting and shed new perspectives towards life in the Global South. He does have pop quizzes, AND YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN THEIR COMING! He absolutely will go above and beyond for his students. LOTS OF EC. Participation is imperative! With effort A or B is cake.
Dr. Jennings is the best political science professor at UT. He expects a lot from you, but the content is interesting and engaging. Lots and lots of reading/note-taking, but study guides will prepare you very well for his tests. He's vague on which current events will be on the exam, but it isn't too bad! HIGHLY recommend!
Interesting topics, alot of not taking. Good class, good professor.
Such a good professor. The class is really difficult as there is so much material to cover, but he does make it interesting and goes above and beyond to help anyone in need. He wants his students to pass and do well. Definitely would recommend.
pretty difficult for a gen ed class. i worked my butt off and barely scraped out an a. that being said, course content is interesting and he goes into detail. his TA's aren't very helpful(never emailed me back). LOTS of studying mandatory for exams. weekly quizzes are super difficult even if you actually do the reading.
My favorite professor I've had so far. Lots of notes each class, so I recommend a computer. You'll learn SO MUCH, but you definitely have to work in order to excel. Great for polysci majors. A midterm, two papers, two movie reaction papers, three pop quizzes, and a final. Jennings is a cool guy and makes the class laugh often.
His lectures are all-entailing and class time is not wasted in class. He excels at engaging with students and dispenses useful information. It's pretty important to read the material in the textbook because it WILL be on quizzes and tests. He's a very nice guy and, as long as you show up to class, take good notes, and read the text, you'll do fine.
Even though political science is my major, Dr. Jennings' examples of concepts were explained in a manner that was actually interesting. He ensured that lectures were relevant to our generation as a whole. He gives up to 3 extra credit points to FINAL grade!! Go to class & take notes, you can make an easy B or higher.
Jennings does make you work for your grade. That is what we are here for though, right? There are lots of notes to take during class and a good amount of reading. My quiz and test grades were not good and was able to improve with extra credit. Would take again, simply because he wants you to learn and succeed. I love his sarcasm as well.
He's the best prof I have had at UT. Very challenging, and does not hand out As. He is very competent about the material he teaches, and taking notes is mandatory if you wish to do well. In papers, relate your reaction to personal experience to do well. He wants to see that you are actually interested in what he is teaching.
Fantastic. Great at engaging students even though it is a big lecture class. He has real world experience and definitely knows what he's talking about. Must take notes every class. Also, he gives really good study guides before each test. Also allows extra credit throughout the semester.
Prof. Jennings is a good lecturer. You can tell he has a lot of experience and knowledge in the field of poli-sci. He grades pretty tough on the exam but there are quizes each week that bring up your grade. He also gives lots of extra credit which helps.
Professor Jennings is a great lecturer. However, he makes you earn the grade you get, and it doesn't come easy. Attendance is a non-negotiable. Go to class. Honestly, your TA will be your greatest asset in this class. Use them. Skim the textbook. Quizzes will make or break you. He gives ample extra credit opportunities, so don't skip out on them.
Favorite professor at UTK. His classes are not easy, but they're enjoyable because he's funny and very willing to work with you and help you, but you're going to work for it. He gives tons of extra credit, and for fun and unique stuff. He really wants you to get a good grade and do well, and he definitely understands that students are only human.
I took this class for a foreign studies credit. It was honestly way too much work for a gen ed class with over 100 people. His slides were huge paragraphs of text. The content was somewhat interesting, but he expects students to memorize SO much material. I would imagine liking this better if I were a polisci major, but it was a lot of work.
Jennings was an awesome teacher. His lectures were a fill-in-the-blank powerpoint and it does force you to pay attention. He does not post them online, and he takes role everyday. But, he gives very detailed study guides and as long as you study them thoroughly, you'll do fine. There are weekly quizzes. They aren't hard if you read!!!
Dr. Jennings is very experienced and really knows what he's talking about. He lectures from a PowerPoint (not posted on BB), which makes taking notes easy. He takes attendance in every class, so go to class. There are weekly quizzes that are easy if you do the reading and pay attention and he gives lots of opportunities for EC. Tests are tough!
Jennings is a great professor that uses real world examples which makes his class easy to understand. He gives assigned readings which will definitely help for the reading quizzes (every discussion) but he goes over it in lecture. He really cares that his students know the material so he will definitely not be a pushover.
You have to do your work in this class to make a good grade! Read every page, focus in lecture (if you skip class you will not pass period), and study. He is a great teacher, passionate about the class, and easy to pay attention to. Funny guy - really enjoyed this class and because of that I worked hard & did the work.
Great teacher and genuinely enjoyed hearing what he had to say. My TA was awesome and the class wasn't crazy hard. They have review sessions and go over the study guide that they give you for each test.
There is almost always 2 weekly readings as well as a quiz on most Fridays. Attendance is mandatory and the lectures are made of note-taking from slides, but Jennings is funny, full of extra credit, and gives clear expectations.
Jennings is a really great professor. He genuinely wants everyone to learn and get a good grade. His exams are exactly like the study guie, so if you do those well then you're going to get a good grade in the class. Make sure to read the notes and the chapter, especially the gray boxes, before Friday discussion sections. There will be quizzes.
Jennings is pretty interesting teacher, he gives really good examples. So pay attention in class and you'll be able learn what you need to know. You'll have weekly quizzes so READ it helps w/ the quizzes as well as future tests. The TA's are in charge of grading the tests and overall stuff so make nice w/ them. Do the extra credit.
The best professor I have taken at UT. It is not an easy class though. Dr. Jennings is extremely knowledgable and passionate about his class. His lectures are very interesting and he uses a lot of examples. If you are interested in Political Science, take his class
There is a bunch of reading each week and about 11 quizzes, which he only uses the best 8 scores. There are two papers and two tests along with a participation grade. You can only miss two classes for the semester if it is once a week, 3 hrs long. He is a good professor and the lectures were interesting. 3 extra-credit papers.
His Monday night lectures are long, but he gives you a break in the middle. Take notes, remember specific examples and you'll pass all of the papers and exams. He appreciates your effort and grades according to it. Great professor!!!
Jennings is the best teacher ever. His lectures are dynamic and although there's a lot of material he is very helpful and has an open door policy. He responds to students request for help in a very welcoming manner. Some might not agree, but he's also a pleasant sight when he's writing on the board LOL
Jennings is a kind, knowledgable prof, but the class structure is where some fault may be found. The Monday night lectures are dreadfully long and dry--like copying notes off of a Wikipedia page for 3 straight hours. Grading was reasonable, and EC opportunities were there, but the quizzes were full of trivial facts (10 Q's). In sum, pretty good.
Pols 452 is one of the most difficult class that I ever took, however Jennings is such an awesome teacher he makes it look easy. He is passionate about what he is teaching. This class has a ton of information and it is challenging so be ready to read and to participate in class. As long as you read and participate in class you will pass.
You will be taking notes for 50 minutes straight every lecture. You will need to at least skim the readings and take a look at your notes before each quiz on Friday. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT. Overall he was a good teacher, and I learned a lot.
He is really smart but is very arrogant. Offers good amount of extra credit and is willing to help. Notes for 50 minutes straight. Study study study for those exams and quizzes every Friday in discussion.
Night class was long with a lot of note taking; a lot of reading as well; makes it interesting with videos and current events; grades are from wkly quizzes, participation, 2 short papers, midterm, and final; allows for 3 extra credit papers; fast talker and can be hard to keep up with; tests are difficult but not impossible; pay attention to detail
Dr. Jennings is a knowledgeable, hilarious professor. His lectures are informative and easy to follow and he also gives tons of extra credit opportunities. Read the textbook because most of the quiz questions come from there. Pay attention and read and you'll do just fine.
I really enjoyed this class. It definitely required some effort reading and study-wise, but it's nothing too overwhelming. Plenty of extra credit opportunities as well.
Dr. Jennings is an extremely effective teacher; if you actually want to learn things, you should take his courses. The structure of the course is primarily note-based, and pop quizzes are common. He isn't looking for perfection--just an indication that you've taken some time to read the key parts of the text. He's a cool guy. Take the class.
Jennings is a great professor, but he makes you really work for the grade you want. Fair grader, doesn't let up on notes for a moment. If you like a lecture heavy class with a good orator, he's the best choice. I'd take classes with him again in a heartbeat.
Dr. Jennings is a very gifted lecturer. He makes all the material interesting and comprehendible. However, it does take work on the students end to get their preferred grade. If you are willing to put in the work, you will by all means succeed in this class. I thoroughly enjoyed it (my favorite class so far) and highly recommend to anyone.
Dr. Jennings loves to lecture. Reading the book is necessary for his 10 question reading quizzes every Friday. His tests are difficult but if you read the book and take notes during lecture you will be fine. Offers extra credit and takes attendance every class. Sessions are led by the TA'S before every exam in the library. He keeps PS interesting.
Dr. Jennings made political science bearable. There are quizzes every week in discussion group, and it is vital that you read the textbook for those. Jennings' classes are lecture heavy, so be ready to take notes. There are tons of opportunities for extra credit, so don't let them pass you by.
I'm not that interested in Pol Sci,but he was a great teacher! He says the reading is important, but I never did and got along fine. He gives tons of extra credit opportunities. The class is lecture heavy, so don't miss often, but I found that if a friend sends you their notes, I was fine for the weekly quizzes. Very accessible and a funny guy!
Dr. Jennings makes lectures enjoyable because his course is lecture heavy. He is very knowledgable. He has weekly readings with his lectures, and weekly quizzes on reading and lectures during the discussion section. He gives extra credit. His tests are difficult, but you will make good grades if you pick apart the study guide and study a lot.
Very interesting lecture. However, he prints out his notes for the day and projects them onto the screen. Therefore, if you miss class, you cannot access these notes on Canvas. Attendance is mandatory as everyone is required to sign a sheet of paper. You can easily get 90's on the weekly quizzes and you don't need to read.
discussion is when you take your weekly quizzes and get a chance to higher the participation grade. if you go to every class but don't talk much, your grade will still be an A. Jennings was overall a fine teacher, there was just a lot of content to cover so you had to be paying attention to take the notes for that day.
Honestly he's just one of those teachers that makes you work for the grade and you end up thankful for it in the end. He has quizzes every Friday, notes from the second you sit down until you stand up, tests every 3 weeks--ish. Read the book and take notes and you'll do great. Gives extra credit as well.
Is a good lecturer, they are long but they are so important to attend. I recommend typing notes during class and maybe writing them later if that helps you remember stuff. He gives a study guide for the test which if you take the time to do are same material as test. Go to study sessions before tests and do the extra credit. Friday quizzes are hard
He is a great professor in the sense that he cares about his students and wants to make learning a positive experience. His lectures were interesting and I learned a fair amount. Exams are extremely difficult, so study hard. Be prepared to keep up with the readings and do the work.
Jennings class is super easy as long as you go to class, take good notes, and study the study guide before exams. He is a good lecturer and exams are relatively straightforward. If you have any background knowledge about government this class is an easy A for a gen-ed.
Jennings Pols 102 is great if you're a pol sci major. Lectures are well structured and concise. He does his best to ensure the lectures are not boring. Very knowledgeable. Plenty of extra credit opportunities. The textbook can be boring at times, however, to get the 100% on the quizzes you should at least look over it. Your TAs are your friends.
Dr. Jennings was an amazing lecturer, I thoroughly enjoyed his classes and was understanding with absences. In lectures its very note heavy so I suggest a laptop or constantly keeping pens. He often looks to the students for a response in class and likes participation. Hes very 'say-it-how-it-is' and matter of fact. Highly recommend the class.
Prof. Jennings was a great first political science professor. He lectures with an energy I really enjoyed, and he is really knowledgeable/helpful if you reach out. Attendance, participation, and reading quizzes make up 40% of your grade, and that chunk is pretty easy to get a good grade in if youre a responsible student.
His online 350 is the very much like a real class, everything is just virtual
This online class is awesome. It opens your eyes to the whole planet and makes you learn about the people that never existed in your world before. The class is not hard but requires you to invest some time to think and respond. Dr. Jennings is good at lecturing, and he gives clear feedback to help with your grade. It feels like a real class.
The text book is a joke. Waste of time. Written for high-school freshman! Wow!
cares about his students
For a 102 class, there was a ridiculous amount of work. The quizzes and exams were doable as long as you really read the information, as he seems to pick out very detailed questions. The final paper for this class was also much harder than any final for a 100 level class should be. This class was harder than my 300 level classes. DO NOT RECOMMEND.
He is a great teacher but the work load for this class is INSANE. The final project is more than I have to do in my 300 level classes. If the work load was less I would have enjoyed the class better, especially during a PANDEMIC.
Dr. Jennings seems like a cool guy, but I never actually met him from in-person classes, just my TA. Despite this, I had everything I needed to get through the class. The quizzes are not hard in reality, neither are the exams. The main challenge in this class is getting all the reading done because it's a lot. The book is not bad, though.
Terrible all around experience in this class. I dont know about not in a pandemic but his virtual lecturers were terrible and boring. Assigns 50 pages of reading a week. Quizzes are the worst part, one every week that has ridiculously specific questions. Exams arent that bad but still to hard considering we were given 50 minutes. End proj. 6 page
If I wasn't a pre-law major, I would have dropped this class. I feel as if I am already in law school and this is not an introductory class. He assigns so much reading, quizzes every week that are 16 mins and 16 questions. (not to mention extremely difficult questions to read and answer in that amount of time) I advised you to not take him. So rude
Very hard class. Spent more time for this one class than all of my other 300 level classes combined. A lot of work for a 100 level class and test were overwhelming
I spent a lot of time working on the class compared to my other ones. The readings were very long for each week and the recorded lectures had lots of information. If you did not take detailed notes for lectures and readings then the quizzes are extremely difficult to pass(36% of your grade). The two exams were very easy and so was the final project
He was pretty easy, as long as you go to lectures and pay attention. A lot of people commented on the reading (which is excessive), but I didn't do any of it and got an A in the class. Not bragging, just proof that the exams are exactly what he talks about in class. Take notes to review before the tests and you'll be fine.
This class was hybrid and the assignments were weekly lectures, discussion posts, quizzes, attendance at discussion, and 3 papers including the final project. There's a ton of reading assigned that's in the weekly quizzes. He's pretty lenient in grading the essays, and the rest of the expectations are clear so the work is not too difficult.
This class was online with a lecture once a week taught by a TA-- so, I never met Dr. Jennings. The quizzes pretty hard. You didn't have to read the textbook to do well on them but you had to take extensive notes on the lectures. We were graded on weekly discussions & quizzes, 2 papers, participation & a big final paper. Extra credit is offered.
Dr. Jennings expects a lot from his students. I learned a lot from him, but I definitely had to work for my grade. There's a lot of reading, and he grades essays decently hard, so I had to put a lot of work into learning what exactly he was looking for. Make sure you participate because it'll really help your grade, and ask for help if you need it.
Professor Jennings was a really awesome professor that I learned a lot from, but if you are in GLBS250 you have to read. He will tell you on the first day that he assigns reading like a 300 level class and is pretty transparent about the requirements. Quizzes and participation are a big part of the grade, but drops the lowest quiz grades.
He was a great lecturer and made the material easy and not-so-boring to learn. The quizzes depend on keeping up with reading the text book, but it's not difficult reading, there's just a lot of it.
This professor alone honestly taught me that I don't actually like lecture-style professors. I have loved most every other lecture-heavy professor I've ever had, but not this class. In fact I dreaded it. I was bored in class, the quizzes were frustrating attempts to deliberately kill your gpa, and I honestly think I learned nothing all semester.
quizzes and exams are very specific so make sure you learn super small details if u wanna pass. the quiz policy is awful and will set you up for failure in the class, especially if you have to miss for covid or other reasons. need to go to class or you won't succeed because he does nothing to accommodate and barely any lectures get put online.
Dr. Jennings really knows what he is talking about so it's easy to learn from him. However, the tests were way too hard. The friday discussions were pointless and I got nothing from them. I was unlucky enough to get the 8am friday discussion. You have to read and attend the lectures because the smallest detail will be asked on the exam.
Dr. Jennings is one of the best in the Political Science Department. His lectures are engaging and his PowerPoints are very informative and organized. The quizzes are a combination of lecture information and stuff from the textbook, but if you have prior knowledge of politics, you honestly wont need to use the book hardly at all.
I don't think I learned anything from this class. His tests never matched what we were taught weeks before hand because they were the smallest details. The Friday discussions were pointless, and the amount of pages required to read each week was not doable at all. What he was asking for felt extremely unrealistic.
Good lectures and lots of reading.
This man is very egotistical about his teaching. He likes to point out how long he's been teaching and how many people he's gotten kicked out of UT. His lectures are good-he makes complicated topics easier to understand. There is a quiz due every sunday over lecture and textbook materials. The exams are difficult, but you just need to study well.
If I can, I will absolutely take Dr. Jennings again. His personality is awesome, you just have to understand his humor. You definitely need to come to class or you're screwed. The exams truly aren't difficult if you take advantage of his reviews and lectures. I loved this class and this professor.
Dr. Jennings is super passionate about teaching and makes it accessible for students to do well in his class. I would highly recommend having him as your discussion section teacher rather than a TA. You have to come to lecture and discussion to get all the material and attendance is counted for your grade. Really great class and professor!
Dr. Jennings gives great lectures, which is good considering they are mandatory. Attendance is taken via a sign-in sheet at every class, and there are quizzes on the lectures and reading once a week. Make sure you take notes quickly, because he talks fast and slides are not posted. The slides and material are very interesting though.
Dr. Jennings is a great lecturer. If you do the work and participate, you will pass. Very organized lectures and discussions.
Dr. Jennings was amazing! His lectures were always great. Every week there is a quiz over the textbook/lectures, but if you know the material you will be fine. Content is a little tough but if you dedicate time then its really not bad. Just stay in top of readings! Would take again!
This was the worst professor I've ever had. The exams were way too hard and had material on them that we never covered. The exams would literally say that there was stuff we didn't know but to try our best. So much for exams testing what you actually learned. He would not help at all and was just rude, to be honest. I would never take him again.
Dr. Jennings was a good professor and taught well. I will say this was not an easy class; as a first year student it was a struggle to adapt to what the professor wanted out of us. There is so much material that you have to read, and you have a quiz every Friday over the readings and lecture for the week. The exams and quizzes are crazy difficult.
The lectures are information dense and readings are required if you wish to succeed on the weekly quizzes. Contrary to other reviews, I would say he properly prepares students for exams and hosts study sessions. As someone who has never taken anything remotely related to political science, I would highly recommend attending the exam study sessions.
Jennings is amazing but not for everyone, he is tough but he definitely prepares you for the exams. I'll be taking classes with him for 3 more years here and would recommend this class highly.
Dr. Jennings was a clear and entertaining lecturer. If you show up and participate it is very easy to succeed.
This class is incredibly tough. The professor prioritizes his knowledge over teaching, making it hard for non-political science experts. The lectures cram too much information, tests pick up on tiny details, and the study guide doesn't have answers. I had a 4.0 and this was the first C I have gotten. I don't recommend taking this professor.
I really enjoyed this class but it can get pretty difficult if you miss class or readings. He gives out study guides for the exam and tells you the format of the exam but the exams cover A LOT. Also sometimes he goes too fast during lectures so it is hard to get everything in the notes down and he won't post the slides after class.
Really good professor who knows more about political science than almost anybody. His lectures are a balance between tough content and humorous remarks on the world's politics. Monday and Wednesday are big lectures, but on Friday you have a discussion section with a TA where you take a quiz on the lectures and reading. (Textbook Necessary).
Dr. Jennings is a really smart guy. His lectures are long but informational and really aren't that bad. The quizzes in the discussion section are based on the textbook reading and notes from the week so you have to read. Attendance is mandatory and he passes out a sign in sheet every class. Tests are really hard but you can pass if you study.
You need to be prepared to read the textbook (there are quizzes every Friday that are really easy if you just do the work) - His lectures are long but informational and sometimes humorous. He tries to keep the class engaged which is good. He also offers extra credit for the total grade average and for exam grades. Study and you will do well
Awesome professor/class. He is very intelligent, humorous, and easy to follow. This class was so interesting and I looked forward to going every time. It is some work, but manageable if you are interested. Readings are mandatory for a weekly quiz. Focus on the study guides and GO to his study sessions! The extra credit is worth it and insightful!
Dr. Jennings was ... not my favorite. Extremely cocky, and while I do think he is very intelligent, he tends to over complicate simple topics. All communication is through your TA and your grade is also very dependent on your TA. Maybe my experience would have been better had I had a better one but even the lecture was not even a little enjoyable.
Only grades come from exams, quizzes, and attendance. You HAVE to read the textbook for quizzes or you won't pass. He's pretty arrogant, and will get on you for being on your phone in a 200 person lecture hall. Take pictures of the lecture slides-he won't post them. No absences allowed without a note or you'll get points docked.
Heavy reliance on the textbook, so read it!! Lectures are great, attendance is very important. Quizzes on Friday are textbook-based and hard to just skim through. Difficult for introductory Poli Sci course especially for non-majors but will set you up with a great basis. Offers great study halls. One drawback is he has an arrogance about himself.
Very pretentious professor who fails to understand that not every student there is pursuing a political science degree. Posh attitude about teaching makes it hard to understand lectures. Textbook does nothing to inform you and uses outdated pop culture references nobody understands. Do not take if you're seeking any VolCore requirements.
Definitely very knowledgable in his field. However you definitly need to put in the work to pass this class wouldnt recommend if you arent a pols major or minor
Dr. Jennings is very knowledgeable but can be a bit much at times. Weekly quizzes rely heavily on a textbook comprised of outdated pop-culture references. Attendance is not mandatory but highly recommended because he doesn't post lecture slides and for participation points. I liked his class but wouldn't recommend it for non-POLS majors/minors.
This class is easy, but you can't skip out on the readings. Every Friday you have a quiz over the textbooks, and those quizzes are really detrimental to your grade is you do badly. The test consists of essays, matching, fill in the blank and multiple choice but he gives intensive study guides. He offers a bunch of extra credit opportunities.
Dr. Jennings was a good professor for the most part. He was funny and knew what he was talking about. The only problem is that you are policed a LOT in this class. The TAs care way too much about what you're doing and they will take participation points off your grade if they don't think you're doing what you should be. A fine class, just strict.
He was definitely very knowledgeable, and, honestly, I liked him as a professor, but the amount of work for a 100-level class is insane. Readings (from an old book) before each class, quizzes every Friday, and very long and extensive tests. His tests were multiple pages and had essays on each one. Definitely not worth it just for a Volcore credit.
Overall, he was a pretty good professor! I would not recommend taking this class if you are not a political science major/ interested in political science because you will not do good if you dont read the textbook. There are weekly quizzes over the textbook reading, and some of the questions are a bit obscure so make sure you are actually reading!
Prof. Jennings' lectures are fun and interesting. I definitely feel prepared for upper level POLS classes. Studying and reading are the keys to success in his class. Also attendance. He gives comprehensive study guides for the exams.
He's a passionate and interesting lecturer. Tons of extra credit opportunities. He's been teaching this course for a while and has it down to a script. He's accessible via email and office hours and easy to talk to. The final isn't too bad either. Discussion every Friday that helps review material of the week and 10-ish multiple choice quiz.
Jennings is a great professor. Sometimes he's a bit weird but that's ok. He's really fair, and it's pretty easy to pass as long as you show up to the lectures, which are really well done, and he's clearly very comfortable with the topics. Honestly I really enjoyed this class.
The exams are pretty thorough, but we got detailed study guides and there is tons of extra credit opportunities. Attendance is graded but as long as you take notes and read the textbook it's not super hard to get a decent grade.
Dr. Jennings is a good professor especially considering this class is very information heavy. He outlines his expectations on day one and sets his standards before you even start class.Quizzes based on the textbook which you must read otherwise you will not understand the quizzes, but the tests in my opinion were more based on lectures. Go to Class
The lectures are very detailed. Only graded on 7 quizzes, participation/attendance, and exams. Read the textbook! You have weekly quizzes over readings and lecture materials. The quizzes take a second to get used to, but he drops the lowest 3 out of 10 scores. I wouldn't take this class if you're not pols major/minor. Des is the best TA.
Do not take this class if you are not a political science major. Dr. Jennings is a wonderful professor who really knows his stuff, but I was writing my hand off for the notes instead of listening to him 90% of the time. Make sure to read the textbook because a lot of off the wall questions will appear on the weekly quizzes.
lots of notes, extra credit opportunities, good lectures
Super fun and his lectures are engaging, but the only grades you get are weekly quizzes and two exams. The quizzes are weekly and based off the readings/lectures from that week. Readings range in length but if you split it up through the week it isn't horrible. Also, exams are similar to AP Exam format (MCQ, SAQ, and LAQ).
This class is fairly straightforward. You are grades on quizzes, exams, and attendance. Don't skip class or discussion sections. Don't try to read the textbook all in one sitting for your quizzes. The textbook is horrible and painful to read. I think I will get an A- in the class, for reference. Exams aren't terrible, study guide is super helpful.
Very knowledgable in the field of Political Science, class is slightly difficult but not impossible. He has a genuine passion for Political Science and every student who puts effort in will do great.
Very interesting classes, cares about the topics he discusses. Class is based on 11 quizzes and 2 exams plus a final, 3 quizzes get dropped. Very lecture heavy and lots and lots of reading. Study guides lay everything out for exams. Would recommend.
As long as you read the book, you'll be fine. The class is 10 quizzes based on text textbook, 3 lowest grades are dropped. 3 exams, but he gives a study guide with almost all the questions. He does take attendance, so don't skip the lecture.
Dr.Jennings's lectures were very good and interesting, and the TA I had was also great during the discussion section. This class was was not super difficult but it was very time consuming. Last spring, I would have to read 50 pages a week for a 10 question multiple choice quiz, which was brutal. Overall, great class and lectures, but not an easy A.
folks, be wise. if your first day of class begins with a lecture from the instructor about all of their oddly specific rules and is followed up by a self-pat on the back, or if you read reviews and they're saying "he's tough but so worth it!," just drop the class. he demands a doctor's note/obituary for absences: no mercy for my period cramps.
Each week had a 10 question quiz that hurt my grade. The exams were too hard for a 100 level class. I only got a B- because of extra credit. The professor wasn't helpful, and the textbook was awful. I did all that was required and still struggled. I learned a few facts, but not any core material. The class felt like a waste and professor was rude.
