Attendance wasn't mandatory but he goes through the study guides during class. He barely teaches through his power points but he posts them online. His exams are extremely hard and he is a very tough grader. He words the exams to try and trick you. With him, you basically have to teach yourself.
Lectures are basically large study hall sessions. You end up teaching yourself. His exam choices are TERRIBLE. His tests are on scan-trons, however he has it set up to where you can mark all bubbles in, or none--NO PARTIAL CREDIT. Confusing answer choice.
He is an intelligent man, but I do not feel he is a good instructor. He is extremely difficult for testing and the tests are the ONLY source of grades for his class. You can't make up for it with good homework scores. All self-taught and the tests are very confusing. Could be 4 bubbles, could be none. Proceed with Caution!
Where do I get started? This class made me want to switch to Hospitality. His exams will have you feeling you're an actual doctor already and taking the MCAT. His shiny head will make you love him but don't let it deceive you. He may seem like a teddy bear, but no. This class is hard. The chances of you passing are the same as winning the lottery.
The worst professor that I have ever had. I had to go back to therapy and get back on meds because of this class. Jonen does not want you to learn, he just wants to challenge you and fail. I don't even have the energy to type further. I am depressed again, and it is his fault.
Dr. Will Jonen lacks connection with his students. He automatically assumes that every student learns the same way he does when he went through school. He does not lecture and expects you to learn immediately by reading the book once. His tests are hard because he likes to "challenge" students, when in reality he just likes to see people fail.
Dr. Jonen is a sweet, approachable guy; however this class is already difficult, and he makes is even more difficult with his teaching style. Its more of a flipped class room. You read the book and answer all the questions on WYNTK and he talks partially about the topic based on his PPT. With this class, expect to have no social life & xtra time.
Get ready to read and spend 24/7 on this class. Its crazy for an anatomy into course. You have to know everything or little details. Not very practical when it comes to tests because tests can be confusing. Take 223 w another professor if u can!! This is crazy hard. Not healthy for the mind and emotionally. This class will make u feel dumb
He is really nice and will answer any questions U have. But be prepared to neglect all ur other classes and other aspects of ur life just to get through this course. He makes it really really hard that the tests will throw u off. Not doable to take this class w other hard classes.
Take another professor if possible. Dont recommend if you want to keep ur sanity
He is a hard professor but you really learn in this class. He is very approachable and willing to help u. He responds to email in a timely manner. This class isnt that bad, just put in the work. Do the study guide and ask him questions and u will be fine. He is nice and funny too
Test are hard; you need to look for the answer for his study guides; everything is based on how hard you work; basically put in all your time and effort into this class because its hard
Dr. Jonen is so funny and he will give you advice if you ask. HE IS WILLING TO HELP AND ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS YOU HAVE. Thus is college and you are pretty much responsible for yourself. Take him if you wanna learn
He is a funny, shiny head man that enjoys helping students. Do the work and you will be fine. He is so approachable and so easy to talk to
Very hard rigorous course but Jonen makes you feel comfortable if u wanna ask questions. He is willing to clarify topics. Take him if u have time to invest and willing to work hard
Jonen is so nice and a positive guy. The whole curriculum is just a mess because its all new. Might take a while to get used to. Just put in the work. If u dont understand something go to him

Dont get me wrong, dr. Jonen is a real nice guy, but he has made me hate this class so much. No matter how hard I try I cant do good on the test since he doesnt give partial credit and is so specific. This class has made me so disappointed in myself after every single test

The exams are garbage, Jonen is arrogant and only cares to stroke his ego. The lab portion is no better, the first 3 weeks we had no idea what would be on the practical, lab instructor does not have the answers for the lab manual and no answer key for the models, so you don't know if you are identifying the correct structure. Avoid at all costs.
Jonen expects you to teach yourself instead of him teaching you. I didn't pay for this class to teach myself A&P. His test are absolutely ridiculous and so are his lectures. This class was so poorly structured. Just because you know A&P doesn't mean you should teach it.
Talk to him and ask him questions. He will make you work like youve never worked before!!

This class demands a lot of time and hard work. Do what you have to do to get the grade u want- read the book and studyyy
He makes the test ridiculously hard, but hes a good teacher. He makes a lot of analogies and pictures to demonstrate his points.
He's an intelligent man. And he's funny. But he doesn't really teach through his lectures. He goes really fast over the powerpoints, glazing over the topics. Tests are super hard and hes proud of it. You basically have to teach yourself, and sometimes he contradicts what the book says.
Hes a very smart man who uses a lot of examples and ways to make you understand him. But u must be asking questions and make sure u understand it
The ratings here are pretty much accurate. Tests are really hard and confusing. Take another professor or wait. But he is a nice person with a very good of sense of humor.
This class will really test your will to live. The class average is somewhere around 40% and more than half the class will drop by the 3rd test. Jonen will answer any questions you have, but in a confusing way in where you now have even more questions. He expects you to be a genius in the topics, but he doesnt understand that this is a intro class.
Okay Jonen is really helpful and SO NICE. He is willing to help, u just have to ask!! He has a lot of office hours and you can schedule an appointment with him easily. Very approachable. U will get the grade u want but u have to work for it! Hes a good professor.

Look at every good rating or 5.0 rating for Jonen. Every single one is talking about his personality. Although his personality may be good and he is very knowledgeable in the subject, he is a bad teacher. More than half the class is failing and he has over 600 students. That says something about him. But hey, at least he has a good personality.
Absolutely terrible. Takes pride in making his exams confusing and difficult to watch his students fail. More than half the class gets Fs on his exams which tells you what type of professor he is. You take his class, be prepared to teach yourself or find someone who wants you to succeed. Avoid him at all costs.
Professor Jonen is very nice but he makes this class harder than it needs to be. This was the second time I took this class the first time I got a C but it was with another professor. His tests are almost impossible. He tries to really trick you. My class started out with 160 students, we are down to 50. Be prepared to have a mental breakdown.
It's shocking that he has taught for so many years. Very knowledgeable of KIN but horribly structures his class. Total exams of 5 + final, you will have to study daily, and put hours of studying in. Let it be a warning that he is only allowed to teach 1 KIN 224 class next semester. (he was scheduled to teach 3). Hardest A- I've ever worked for.
He is a great lecturer and pushes for his students to actually learn the material rather than it being handed out to us, its A&P after all. Many students are upset because of how hard the class is, but he literally gives us what we need to know. If the students put in the effort to actually learn the material then they wouldnt be complaining.
He's a great professor! However, you have to be willing to put in the work. Many students complained about his teaching, and I truly believe if you set out ways to look for answers to helping your success in this class you'll be fine. GO TO OFFICE HOURS, &ASK QUESTIONS. I'm sure many people didn't do either of those things, and complained instead.
For those saying we dont want to put in work how do you know that? Ive literally spend my whole time on this class and neglect my other classes to focus on this class, this class is just beyond on what it should be.
I have to disagree with the negative comments. Jonen is willing to help and explain it over and over until u get it. U just have to Put in the work. Go to tutoring, office hrs, etc. he is available to schedule appointments with u. All the people that complained just didnt put in the work necessary to actually know the material!
Dr. Jonen is a great lecturer, he explains everything about each chapter. The exams are hard but you will survive if you put your mind to it. Although I like him, but Im happy that hes gonna change the exam format.
I didnt like Professor Jonens class at first, but Ive grown to enjoy it. To pass, you have to attend lecture, do his study guides, do the practice tests and attend office hours to ask questions. I have a full time job & 2 other classes and Im doing just fine. You really have to dedicate time to this class but he also makes it fun. :)
This is a hard class. Test questions are very specific and nitpicky. It is hard to fully justify pushing a student to jump through hundreds of hoops to fully understand the material because his lectures and study guides are sometimes not up to par with his exams. Jonen himself simplified his tests but it was too late to obtain a satisfying grade.
It is a hard class and definitely make you work for it. But if youre not willing to work u should rethink ur career path. He is a great guy with a good sense of humor. He is so funny! Go to class its interesting
He is a great professor. Teaching style is quite unique so it may or may not work for u. But he has a way to simplify things in a way that u understand. Started out as a rough semester but he is willing to negotiate
Class consists of 5 exams and a final. It seems like a lot, but its better that exams are based on 2 chapters only. Lectures are funny and he is patient with questions. He is a hard teacher but I would recommend him if you wanna learn!!
He's a good teacher and a nice guy but a bad leader. It was weird to hear a professor tell his students that he didn't care about their GPA and his job was to just teach. He admitted he hoped anyone who didn't show up to class had dropped it. There were issues with Lab and he said to stop asking him questions about it because it wasn't his job.
This is Dr. Jonens first semester at UNLV and with some tweaks he could be a great Professor. I think he hopes the best for his students but he does make it very challenging. The exams are pretty ridiculous but he posts recorded lectures online. Those videos helped raise my grade to a B+ from a C. Use all the tools he gives you and you'll be fine!
He is very tough but very nice and cares about his students learning. He makes study guides for the tests and there are a lot of tests so its only 2 chapters per test. Overall its a very hard class but you do learn a lot
Dr. Jonen means well when he teaches. However, the message does not get across clearly and makes his tests way to hard. I have taken BIO 223 before and this class is way harder even for me who had learned the material before. I know he means well but his tests are just way to hard
Provides study guides for students to do work before they get to class so that class can be interactive to get answers to questions on study guides. Also provides recorded lectures to listen to multiple times. This is very helpful. Open office hours are great for getting the information on questions direct from him. Put in the time to succeed.
One of the worst professors Ive ever had. I dont know Im able to understand microbio, BIO351, and not this class. The tests were an absolute wreck and his lectures were so unorganized.
Dr. Jonen's class has been extremely rewarding! Requires work, yet you simultaneously appreciate and enjoy it because you are learning so much. Best advice is attend class AND office hours. Ask questions. Lectures are fun and interesting. Take the opportunity to have a great teacher. A rare gift in college, trust me. Beneficial to your future.
I know this guy means well, but he isnt a great professor. The majority of positive comments made were made after he gave his speech about how is job was on the line so people felt bad for him. I have honestly never seen a lecture class be so unorganized and unhelpful like this one was. You literally teach yourself in this course.
I didn't enjoy this class at all. I thought it was very difficult. I have to retake it because it was so difficult. He gives you study guides, but they are overwhelming with questions. The exams are excessively hard. You won't pass if you skip class or don't read the book. Don't take this class with other hard classes. Pro: he incorporates stories.
If you want to pass then you should definitely attend lecture. He is a great teacher, his lectures are informative & he breaks down info in ways you can understand. The beginning of the semester his exams were very difficult & challenging to study for but towards the end the format changed & with the info provide it class it was easier to succeed
A mess of a course. His exams were incredibly hard to pass, and you need to dedicate HOURS to get at least a passing grade. The class only got slightly easier after he told us he was on the line of losing his job, so he started using Pearson power points and exams. His logic on the exams was ridiculous, you basically have to teach yourself.
This class was unnecessarily difficult. While he does give out fairly simple study guides, his tests contain almost graduate level questions. His test averages were D's yet he refused to change the style and difficulty of the tests until his job was at stake.
Jonen is very intelligent and willing to explain concepts that are very hard multiple times. But I've gotten a lot more wrinkles and dark circles in my 4 months in this class that I ever had in my twenty years of existence. The class is not that bad but just be prepared and wary that it will take a lot of time, effort and energy.

I have take A&P before with different professors and Jonen is actually really good. He is a great professor but he's not easy and will definitely make u work for it! Just do everything on the Do's of a good student he listed in the syllabus and u will earn a good grade. U will actually learn the material which is a lot more valuable than the grade
The best kinesiology professor
You will pass this class if you put th time effort and energy. If u are going to be in health care field it takes hard work and this class will definitely test ur waters.
Majority of the stuff he talks about are not on his exam. His exam doesn't examine you on your knowledge but rather how well you read each questions... trying to figure out his trick answers. He had exams where there were multiple to actually no answer on the scan tron. He changed his course literally at the end of the semester.
His class was HORRIBLE... the class was so challenging and obscure for no reason. This is the most unorganized professor I have ever taken at UNLV and within the KIN department. You might as well become a hermit or donate an arm and a leg if you intend on passing the class. You literally need to study for HOURS to memorize material - HOURS
Dr. Jonen is ok. He gave us many resources, however I wasn't a fan of the q&a structure of the class. It was all over the place and seemed more of an interruption than of any help. His exams are challenging. A&P itself is. Honestly reading the book over and over helped me more than attending lecture. Lab will save your grade
The course was obviously going to be difficult since ur body is doing the most but the course was messy. The professor and department are at fault but u have to put in time to read the book, and study because its not easy. Just suck it up and take the L if u didnt grind for the A u literally signed yourself up for this. ����������
A&P is a dense subject, and you cant get around the hard work and studying. Dr. Jonen is an amazing lecturer. Read the textbook, take practice tests, and make connections with the analogies he throws out during lectures. Test-heavy, but doable if youre dedicated to understanding the material presented.
Terrible. The exams did not line up with the study guide and were extremely hard. Hes not very accessible, only in his office hours which were classroom setting, and hard to get one on one time. No review sessions for any exams or finals. Youll have to dedicate your life to this class alone if you want to get an A.

Dr. Jonen is among the best professors I've ever had at UNLV. 5 exams throughout the semester and a cumulative final, yes you have to study! He really goes out of his way (gets on tables, yells, gives real life examples) to help you understand the material and he cares about his students. He always has office hours or shares resources to help.
Best professor I have had yet. Yes, his class is tough, its freaking anatomy and physiology. Yes, you need to study the material! Best lecturer, most interesting and keeps attention of students. Always willing to help outside of class. Take advantage of his office hours! Students who consistently show up get help and do the best on his exams
If it was up to Jonen, only 5 kids would pass the class. This was the problem the prior semester. He just wants to teach anatomy, and he does it very well. Truly amazing. take him if you actually want to learn, take gorden if you need the grade. He has 6 exams, so you really have to keep up, but you can afford to tank a few. such a drastic change!
Jonen is a great professor if you actually care about learning A and P. Dont let the other reviews scare you he is tough as all hell but fair. I wouldve taken him again for 224 but the timing didnt work with the section. Jonen will make you work and study hard to pass his exams. Professor Jonen prides himself in his class being extremely difficult. 5 exams plus the final- and they are incredibly hard. He is a smart man, but his lecture style is hard to follow and he expects everyone to keep up no matter what. Office hours don't help much if you want one-on-one help, as these are structures like a class with Q&A. Avoid him.
Dr. Jonen was by far the best Lecturer I've had. He takes it slow enough for you to grasp each slide (even for me, I'm a very slow learner), and takes time to explain things really well. He's really funny and doesn't give any homework. You will leave his class understanding A&P. lots of reading and fill out study guides and you'll be good.
He is a terrible professor, he gets off topic while lecturing very often. Office hours are no help, and his exams were extremely difficult. Would never take a class with him again.
Most questions on his tests are on the study guides and his powerpoints. If you study those then youll be good. I dont suggest taking this class during the summer. We had most of our exams after every 2 lectures which was exhausting. There were 5 exams plus 2 finals. Exams are on top hat so use a device that is reliable.

Great professor that really goes in-depth with the concepts of KIN 224. He is great at explaining hard concepts and goes at a reasonable pace. To do well in his class you must study a lot. He gives a lot of exams.
If you can take a different professor, do so.. At least 20% of the class failed every one of the exams and he did not care and makes exams very difficult. Did not curve an exam where more than 50% of the class got an F. You can still manage to get a decent grade if you sell your soul to anatomy and phys :-)
Jonen is a very smart and a funny guy. He is brilliant but expects all of his students to be at the same level in knowledge. I studied for one day and I studied for five days, no matter how much I study I usually receive the same bad score. Getting a good grade is doable just be ready to put in ALOT of time and efffort.
This class left me with mixed feelings. While he is very knowledgeable and does a good job explaining the chapters, his tests vary in difficulty. When he personally writes his tests or modifies them they are very tricky in wording and VERY difficult. He is detail oriented, which is understandable for anatomy, but what he expects is beyond.
Amazing professor to learn from but horrible tests. Around 5% of the class gets A's while >50% percent fail and he wont curve the exam. Says info won't be on the test but it is on the test. Many trick questions that will make you 2nd guess yourself for every question. Don't take if u need an A but he has great lectures if u just want to learn AnP
He considers low C's and high D's "good" average scores; at least 40% of the class fails each exam. He's only available via classroom-setting office hours that are half-223, half-224-dedicated. He admits to poorly-worded questions and refuses to believe that low correct percentages on questions means ineffective teaching and not "lack of studying."
Jonen is a funny prof. & he makes lectures fun. He is a caring professor as well, he talks to you in private in case you have any questions. I had to drop his class though because it was too difficult. He obviously knows what he is talking about but I just wished his exams weren't too hard. You have to take this class alone if you want an A.
Took both 223 and 224, one of which was in the summer. Got A's in both. Yes this class is challenging, but you will thank him for all the hours you spent studying especially when it comes to other Kinesiology classes beyond 224. You can afford a few bad grades on tests. READ THE BOOK. He loves the book, don't just study off powerpoint you wont pass
If you don't read the textbook, you won't pass. Within his tests are questions that can solely be found in the text. Lectures are in depth and he knows what he's talking about. He gives lots of good examples, hint pay attention to them because they most likely will show up on the exam. Lecture recordings are helpful as well.
Jonen is not a terrible professor however he is not a great one either. His exams can be so difficult and hard to understand. I feel like I could have earned an A if his exam structure wasn't so abstract sometimes. Also, a 50% average on an exam, which also happened on the final, is the professor's fault, not the students.
I really don't agree with the negative reviews. Straightforward, multiple choice exam questions. Yes, YOU HAVE TO PUT THE TIME IN. I work full time and I'm in school full time and I got a high A. The subject material is really not that difficult, but the class is time consuming. One critique - Jonen talks loudly during exams which is distracting.
If you're a KIN / BIOL major / Pre-med / Pre-dental major, you will thank this class at some point in your life because almost all of the material this class covers will show up at some point in your remaining undergrad & med school / dental school courses. Tough class, but totally worth it in the long run.
Jonen is a intelligent and clear teacher but this course is not easy. WYNTK (studyguide) are indicative of the exams. Lowest exam score I got was 84% (across both his 223/224 class) and all I did was make sure to do the WYNTK (answered in ppt, lecture and book) pay attention in class and solidified info in office hours if needed. Don't slack off.
This is a difficult course so you're going to have to put in work for it. Dr. Jonen gives you all the resources to pass his class. As long as you do his study guides, look through the textbook, and attend lecture, you should be able to pass his exams. His lecture recordings can also be useful.
If you really want to learn about the systems and learn how to APPLY them in the real world, I highly recommend you take this class. Jonen held office hours almost every day, fitting them around our schedules, he's a professor that truly wants you to learn and understand--but only if you put the effort in. GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS!
Jonen does not want you to fail. He is so passionate about not only sharing information, but teaching it. Jonen's class was incredibly hard, but I have learned more with him in 2 semester than I have with my other professors. Jonen is ALWAYS prepared and willing to answer your questions. He is very specific on what he wants. Attend his office hours... They will help you so much.
While he is always willing to help and do everything he can to help his students he leaves it up to you to put the work in. Not unusual, but he does expect more out of you than the other profs. He expects you to learn more, do your own studying. Puts content in a study guide, doesn't teach it in class and put those questions in the exams. Not fair.
Dr. Jonen may be blunt, but he genuinely does care about the education of his students if they show they care. He tries to schedule his office hours to accommodate the majority of the class, so you should try to go if you're struggling/need help!! All the info needed for exams are covered by the study guide --answers from lecture and textbook
Jonen is charismatic, insightful, and truly wants everyone to succeed. Class is difficult, but will absolutely teach you everything you need to know about A&P, and prepare you for any rigorous work in upper division/Graduate courses. I was fortunate to have him as my 224 lab professor as well. ATTEND HIS SUPPLEMENTAL INSTRUCTION/OFFICE HOURS!
5/5 for 223 + 224 If you took him for 223, you know the deal. Great professor, super approachable, and will help you understand everything thoroughly. Definitely read the textbook, and attend class and anything supplemental, including office hours.
