I dropped after my access practical, didnt do that well on it. It was his first year teaching and I believe he wasnt a great professor. Had trouble explaining difficult concepts at times and was confusing. There are much better professors out there. Nice guy tho.
Will's a great guy, really funny in class and explains the concepts fairly well. Definitely do the lab challenges and discoveries/reviews, as those make up for any misunderstandings or holes in what's taught in class. Does have a tendency to randomly take attendance but he always posts it as a Canvas assignment the day before, so you'll know.
When I had Kanyi it was his first time teaching K201, which is a difficult class already. I didnt do well. I didnt necessarily blame him until I had to take it again this semester and just realized how much better my professor is. I feel like Kanyi will get better over time, but my experience with him wasnt the best. Really nice guy though.
Look K201 sucks. Professors have to give every student the same assignment and has very little control over your grade. That being said, Kanyi will go out of his way to make sure you succeed. If you show up at class and just talk to him he will do everything he can to make sure you understand what is happening. He is a great professor!
He creates very difficult ways to grasp the concepts in class with lots of unnecessary group work. Although K201 is a difficult course, his teaching style makes it harder than it needs to be.
Avoid! Blames students for his own mistakes. Never makes it clear on what is due on what date and has often times changed it without letting us know. Canvas site is a disorganized mess despite him talking in classes about saying he will not change anything. Not very accessible on email for outside of class.
Prof. Kanyi is a great professor! He has a great background and is very knowledgeable about Access and Excel. This class is difficult. However, if you get feedback in class and ask questions you'll be fine! Stay on top of your homework, get GPS done early, DO THE PRACTICE TESTS, and ask for help. Prof. Kanyi will be more than happy to help. GL!
He will blame students for his errors. Sorry the quiz didn't relate to the textbook and we all failed? Makes absolutely no sense and posts assignments at the last minute
Professor Kanyi is a great guy. Although almost no one likes k201, he is there for you throughout the semester and is always available and happy to help when questions arise. It is for sure a hard course, and with any professor, a lot of work will be needed to be put in for k201. He is very friendly and makes the class as enjoyable as possible.
K201 with Access is probably the hardest class you'll take at Kelley. But Will himself was a very good and nice professor. The lecture portion is pretty useless and boring, and it's confusing at first, but very easy to get full points when you figure it out.
Good teacher that was helpful to students. If you attend all labs (even though it is not required), you will get a good grade in this class. Just keep up with work and attend classes. Kanyi is an amazing professor and goes through everything in detail.
I really liked Kanyi and he was a very nice guy. I think it was fairly easy and not much work was even put into the class. Make sure you just follow the instructions for the assignments and you will be just fine.
I felt he did a good job of explaining everything in class and is easy to follow. Lots of people stopped going to class which is why many people found this class difficult. If you go to class and do the discoveries you'll be fine.
Will is a very stern professor who is very hard to reach outside of class. He refuses to respond to emails regarding in class questions and he is very hard to understand in class regarding procedures. His lectures cover the material you need to know for the projects, but you are left completely on your own to figure out how to do the projects.
This professor is VERY difficult to work with. He spent the first 15 minutes of EVERY class saying he won't respond to your emails because whatever you ask is somehow stupid. He's so hard to get in contact outside of class and TA's are overworked and they take forever to grade assignments. The actual lectures are useless, just do the assignments.
Lectures were mostly pointless. First part of the class is spent lecturing about how we are doing everything wrong while contradicting himself. Instructions are not clear and he stresses not contacting him or TA's outside of class. Only reason he doesn't get a 5 for difficulty is because a lot of the points outside of projects are easy.
Do not take this professor if you can try. His lessons are essentially pointless and he doesn't actually teach, more of him just telling you how everything you are doing in class is wrong. If you're doing it wrong, it's not your fault. He doesn't give clear criteria's, instead gives vague instructions on his assignments. Cannot contact him easily.
There is only 50 minutes of online course every week and he decided to use the first 25 minutes complaining about students asking questions via email and do not distribute lecture properly. Quizzes are useless as the wrong questions were not shown no matter what, there is no way to improve yourself from this course.
Professor Kanyi is difficult to work with. His online lectures consist of him bantering about students and their emails. He is a nice person but not understanding.
Will is probably the worst professor at Indiana. He loves to talk about how none of the grades distributed are his fault and that we shouldn't waste our time trying to email him because he won't answer. The only grades we received in K201 were the group project grades, although they are basically graded on whether you completed them or not.
He is the worst teacher/professor I have ever had. At first, I willing to see him through and thought he was just a no BS guy, but it's quite the opposite. He spends half the lecture complaining about receiving emails and he is unwilling to provide any help to anyone. Avoid his class at all costs. He rejects any criticism on his teaching.
he is a good professor and most people just do bad if they stop attending classes. just go to class and you will do good
The class is not hard. However, I've attended every class and I've learned nothing from him. Kanyi himself is a difficult teacher because he does not care about his students whatsoever. You cannot reach him outside of class and asking questions in class makes you feel like a nuance. Also passive aggressive and talks down to students.
Quite literally teaches nothing. Don't try to email him, because he will spend 30 minutes of the class yelling about emails. Learned nothing, useless course. K201 lab is awesome, lecture adds NOTHING to the course, and Kanyi arbitrarily grades, giving you incompletes and taking credit for the tiniest mistakes even though he says "minimal effort".
Since this class is required, do not take Will if you can help it. I literally learned nothing in his class. He does not care about students, or the class. He's impossible to understand in terms of speaking, and he's impossible to reach outside of class. DO NOT TAKE HIM. I don't understand why a school like IU would keep him as an instructor.
He talks down to students who would dare ask a question in class, he refuses to answer emails, and whines about people emailing him for 10 minutes at the beginning of every lecture. It's honestly astonishing that he still has his position. K-201 is a required course, but avoid Professor Kanyi's online lecture portion like the plague.
K201 is split into a lab and lecture component; each covers separate material with no overlap. Will teaches the online lectures, and while I've learnt barely anything at all, he gives the least work of all lecture sections (no discussion forums) and also readily dishes out 100% for the final project just for completeness (w/ a clear base rubric)
Was always complaining about people emailing him and some people not doing the hw well making it seem nobody was doing well. Until the last class were he clarified that it was only certain groups which was bad teaching but besides that it was fine.
Had him for lecture portions of K201. Not a good professor, only uses Canvas Messages as student-professor communication, inaccessible outside of class. Doesn't teach and wastes 50 minutes of class time: spends 30 minutes of class time to scold people for joining late & emailing him on outlook, 5 minutes teaching, then 15 minutes group work on zoom
Felt a lot of time was wasted in class about him complaining regarding emails from students and students joining class late. Didn't feel like I learned much and if he wasn't complaining we were mostly just put into our respective breakout rooms to work on the project.
The worst professor I've had! His class is organized awfully, nothing is made clear, and he spends 10 minutes of every lecture complaining about emails. You aren't allowed to ask for clarification even though this is the worst-organized class at IU. Both he and his TA are pretentious and talk down to you. I'm shocked he still has his position.
He takes up all the class time talking about Canvas and complaining about students. When someone asks him or his TA a question, they get confrontational instead of respectfully answering. This is in context to a question about the assignments being hard to keep track of which frankly is true. He barely gets any actual lecture in.
Will was not helpful in the slightest. His lectures were a big waste of my time and every day I was forced to go I felt like it was time I would simply never get back. Nothing I did here felt important
I have never given a 1.0 rating with a 5.0 course difficulty to any professor before. But Will Kanyi is the closest to accomplishing that pathetic feat. Couldn't be any less helpful, does not respond to any emails or canvas messages. Convoulted course content, only made difficult due to his style. Would rather watch paint dry then to listen to him.
Worst professor I've ever had. All he does is complain about being unable to answer his emails and the TAs for this class were hard graders and unresponsive as well. Pretty much on your own for this course if you have him for the lecture or lab. No remorse when it comes to assignments as well. Do yourself a favor and pick a different professor.
Solid teacher.. A lot of K201 can be done just by looking at the textbook, though. He's extremely nice, and if you show even a moderate level of attendance, he might even be lenient on things like missing attendance or smaller assignments.
Never reviewed before, but this class frustrates me and is conducted exceptionally poorly. All assignments are explained terribly (if at all) and expectations are extremely vague. Assignments are a waste of time and you learn nothing. The content is useless but the assignments are overly confusing/complicated. Will also doesn't respond to messages.
Will is a bore to listen to and while the lecture component and points are fairly easy to earn, it is a genuine struggle to make it through this class every week. He drags on and on in a monotone voice, and this class would be a lot better with a different professor.
Was the worst professor I have had yet at IU. Kanyi was my K201 lecture prof. He was unnecessarily harsh on students, was unclear where points were being deducted, and sent the snarkiest, rudest emails back to students with genuine questions/concerns. Luckily this class was only once a week. Overall, not great.
Not a difficult class. Had the lecture at 8 am on Friday and did fine. Weekly quizzes used the textbook so it was easy to get perfect scores. End of the year project was easy and the TA's provided feedback on ways to improve. Don't know why people didn't like him, if you put in the work then the class was easy.
He's the worst professor, do not ever take him. Like he s the worst. He doesn't give any extensions or helps out. He s not nice at all
Enjoyed the class.
You have to take responsibility to succeed in this class! Professor made it clear during the first week and continued to emphasize the point.
I have Will for K201 lecture and he is absolutely terrible. The class material itself is easy but he is unresponsive to emails and does not care about his students. The lecture portion of this class is already so pointless and he makes it extra miserable.
I think this class is easy if you pay attention. Professor Will is very clear about expectations! People complaining about responsiveness here are just ignorant about instructions on how to contact the professor! Professor responds within 12hrs on canvas.
K201 lab has been very insightful and learned useful excel skills. Enjoyed professor Will class!
K201 has no attendance policy but his lab checks are based on attendance. What happened with me was that one day I was 2 minutes late to class (I had a 11:30 AM) and the prof closed the lab check at 11:40 so you only get 10 minutes on a RANDOM day btw to answer 5-6 questions. He doesn't even offer a makeup if you were absent.
I put above average effort in this class and it's an easy class. Very clear instructions and a lot of help! Btw, professor always respond in less than 24 hours on canvas
This was one of the easy class for me. It can be challenging if you can't manage time and task, but it should be easy if you get your work done.
Professor Will was my favorite teacher this Fall. Enjoyed his class and teaching style. You have to be responsible to succeed in his class.
He's the worst, he s not accessible outside class. He's not reasonable and doesn't help you out. Take any professor but him for this class. You will regret taking his class for sure.
Just completed professor Will lab class! It was a tough class but I really enjoyed his teaching style! If you need assistance, he is flexible with his office hours, just let him know.
Professor was very knowledgeable and explained topics very clearly, and If you dont understand the way he explains it there are phenomenal TAs to help. Course was fairly easy as well just make sure to show up and pay attention.
Professor Kanyi's guidance during K201 helped me a lot. He explained the course material efficiently and in detail. Would recommend taking him for K201 lab.
Since this is a fully online lecture class,I learned early how easy it is to lose focus on what I needed to do! My advice for this class is to pay attention..I feel professor did a decent job of making sure students succeeded in this course.
I had a great semester in professor Will class. This class can be tough if you don't keep up but professor is always reminding students of their responsibility. He was always available anytime I reached out, never had an issue scheduling a meeting the professor Will.
Lecture was an easy class, meets once a week. Just get the assignments completed on time and its an easy A. Group project can be challenging if your group members are not working together well
MOST ABHORRENT PROFESSOR I HAVE TAKEN, he was incredibly bad and made it clear he didn't care much for his students. When individuals couldn't get into the zoom meeting he said “that's not my problem” and proceeded to continue the lecture. His tophat questions are also for accuracy and are super specific from 7 page articles. SIMPLY TERRIBLE.
Professor Kanyi is passionate about his email inbox but not about the course. He spends too much time discussing improper methods of contacting him than the actual content needed to earn a high grade. He is intimidating so it can be difficult to ask questions. Some peer mentors and TAs are harsh graders and the little points lost can really add up.
I learned a lot from Prof. Will lab class, this class is great intro to business technologies.
I retook this class with Prof. Will after failing the first try and I liked his teaching style. I would recommend him.
This class is project based and it easy if you are in a functional group. I noticed a lot of negative comments about the Professor, I took the class this Fall and thought he was great.
Had a great semester in Prof. Will class, would recommend him. He is always trying to reach out to students in his lab class.
I took online lecture in the Spring of 2024; the class was Ok, but lab was challenging. FYI, the class is virtual over MS Teams and does not use Top Hat.
Professor was knowledgeable...I would recommend his class.
Prof. Will was recommended by a former student and I took his class in the Fall. I enjoy his class and did very well.
I took professor Will class in the Fall 2024 semester. I learned a lot from his class and had a great group for my ALDI project.
I had a good experience in this class last semester! The professor does hold students accountable but if you get your work done, lecture is an easy A, lab is challenging!
I attend to a couple of office hours with Dr. Kanyi, I would recommend taking his class. If you get your work done, this is an easy A class.
This was the worst teacher I've ever had. His lectures were useless, offering no valuable information, and he constantly complained about students emailing him for help. His TAs graded insanely hard and were completely unwilling to assist. It felt like he had no interest in teaching or helping students succeed. Avoid his class at all costs.
This class was great and I attended and connected with the professor during office hours! I requested and he completed my recommendations for my transfer to another school! I would recommend his class.
Taking this class now and the professor has been great! Almost dropped the class but it's been a good experience so far.
I am taking this class currently and it's very well organized. The professor is great, easy online class if you get work done.
I absolutely loved Mr. Kanyi for K201 lab. He was super funny and easy to talk to. He's very available for questions before and after class, and does his best to help you understand it on your own. K201 as a class is very homework-heavy and challenging, but Mr. Kanyi is a great teacher.

Although this class was challenging, professor kanyi was a great instructor! It can be a frustrating class because it goes too fast and a lot of new concepts. If you keep up and seek help, you can do well
Honestly nobody likes D271 but he is a good choice for the class. Instructions are not very clear but if you ask questions he is very helpful. The class is a pretty good amount of work but that's how every D271 class is. I think based on hearing how other profs are for this course, he is a good choice. Just be ready to participate
He was a kind person but a TOUGH grader. You will get mad if you want an A because he's very particular about the group projects. Highly suggest asking him for examples and connecting with him so you can succeed. Tests are kind of stupid because they're specific to details like GDP numbers and random ALDI facts. It's easy to pass though :)
Very caring, nice, and knowledgable professor. The class is tough, as long as you keep up routinely with your work you'll be fine. The large group project is a little tough and unclear on the objective. Attendance isn't mandatory but you will get behind if you stop out. Weekly teams meetings were useless.
I enjoyed k201 and I felt the professor did a great job! The class is fast paced, make sure to keep up!
Prof. Kanyi class was tough but to his credit he set the expectations on day one! Although the exam were challenging he did exam reviews and literary told the class where the questions will come from. Assignments have extensive rubric, if you follow the rubric, you earn perfect score!
I almost dropped this class but after meeting with Prof. Will, he encourage me and gave me strategies that made me succeed in this class. He was always available and willing to meet even outside office hours.
I took K201 lab with prof. Kanyi....he was great and would recommend him.
I have taken 2 course with professor Kanyi and I'm surprised to see so many negative comments! He has high expectations and emphasizes students responsibility in the learning process but I learned a lot from his classes.
Online lecture can be challenging but I had a great time in Prof. Kanyi class
I would take Prof. Kanyi again, I learned a lot and made the grade for Kelley admission.
I honestly believe the people on this page with good remarks for his K201 class are bots, because there is absolutely no way you learned anything in that class with the way he doesn't even teach. His tone is condescending, with him constantly punching-down on students EVERY CLASS. He's impossible to get a hold of outside of class or even in class.
Honestly, a horrible teacher. He reads off slides. The class isn't hard, but Kanyi makes it feel like a humiliation ritual with the way he talks to students. He doesn't care about you or your grade. He seems miserable and makes sure you are too. The class was online, but somehow Kanyi still left a horrible impression.
Don't take this professor. He's not a good teacher. I took the class because his rating on here seemed good. I think some of these comments are made by him because there is no way we had the same teacher. He focuses more on students' faults rather than actually teaching.
He's incredibly hard to access outside of class. He is not very welcoming to students asking for help which is honestly something you'll need because his instructions for the projects and assignments are so unclear. In class he reads off of slides which don't really help you.
I would recommend the class
Currently taking this class, prof. Kanyi is great!
I enjoy this class and learned a lot, I'd recommend professor Will.
He's doesn't care about you and super difficut to work with.
Very inflexible with attendance (though attendance is not mandatory), unclear expectations for assignments, and harsh grading
He was very clear when teaching the material for K201, and I was always able to meet up with him for office hours to go over my exam and homework. I loved his class and would gladly take it again, but the pop quizzes definitely were rough but didn't impact my grade much. I don't know why his rating is so low, he was great!!
Will Kanyi is an Amazing Professor. He was available to help when I had questions about the course. He genuinely cares about the students as long as the students care about their education. I'd definitely recommend him!
he is a tough grader especially for gp's
You put in what you get out of it. Also he's hilarious and making sure he knows your name in a positive way goes a long way. He likes to joke around and he explains things well.
He genuinely cares about how the students interpret the content. He made additional videos to summarize each chapter which were helpful for quick revisions. He also had an optional project that enabled us to get real-world experience with data analysis and introduced me to group projects in college.
He's a really great guy, cares about his students. He gives extra optional review for exams that other profs don't give and if you ask him questions he's very approachable. He pushes his students to participate in class but doesn't make the class feel stupid. Would definitely take his class again :)
Coming into K201 and hearing all the mixed reviews for this class intimidated me, but I'm so glad that Will is my professor because he was able to simplify all the concepts. He is such an amazing professor, and he provides extra review practice before tests. He is also willing to help answer questions in and outside of class. Would def rec!!!
Don't listen to the negative reviews. Professor Kanyi's lectures are extremely clear and to the point, and he will help you with any questions on topics of the class you might not understand in his free time. He took time to get to know me and my group partners, and it went in a long way into establishing a great connection and class environment.
Do not listen to the negative reviews. Professor Kanyi, for Discussion/Lab, is a great instructor and person. Probably one of my favorite professors so far at IU. He teaches the content well and thoroughly. I almost took a different prof because of the reviews, but I'm so happy I didn't. Just do the discoveries and practice, and you'll be great!
I took this course with prof. Will, fall 2025! Just completed the class and I recommend him if you are taking k201 in the future! My experience in his class and anyone I know in the class thought he was great.
Great class
best guy oat, i love him my goat
Would take Prof. Kanyi again.
I really liked his class and him as a teacher, he was very accessible outside of class and would totally take it again. For reference, I found that K201 is mostly a self-study class since it needs a lot of repetition, for my first Kelley class I'd say he is pretty good. I got a C+ on a exam, but the rest I got A+ so I ended the class with a A
I personally loved this class! If you do the readings before and after class and pay attention in class, learning the material is no trouble. The amount of effort you put in matters so do the extra work because it will help you understand the content you need to succeed! Will Kanyi was also a super nice and helpful professor!
