VERY HELPFUL, answers all questions, lectures clear, good test review
Great Teacher, good for summer school
Great teacher, makes class interesting and informative
Confusing to a first-time economics student. Sometimes goes on tangents during lectures, but always very enthusiastic and willing to help students. Exams are quite easy and there are extra credit opportunities.

Great guy! Pretty much just talks all period, but if you listen it's a snap. Always takes questions, very helpful.
Genuinely understands that his students are his "customers". Very helpful, loves teaching, brings current day events into the topic matter. I highly recommend him.
Material is boring but he gives plenty of extra credit! If he is late to class you get points added to your final average! Impossible to fail his class
very dynamic lecturer, but exams were tough.

Read the book, read it a lot. His lectures are interesting, but they just highlight the book. He tends to meander a bit, but it is all very interesting. He's always willing to discuss anything you don't understand.
Presents concepts in a "non-technical" manner. Provides lots of examples. Curves tests, clarifies all points, and gives you an opportunity to write a 5 page paper on Economic concepts for 5 points to your average. Pay attention to his lecture, ask questions, and you will do WELL! Enjoy his class.
My favorite teacher at UH! He is so sincere with his teaching style and wants his students to feel comfortable with the material. Offers plenty of opportunity to get extra credit and support from him outside the classroom. Has college age kids and understands our needs. Very sweet and intelligent!
Professor Alexander is the greatest and easiest teacher in the world. I came to class like 8 times this whole semester. I didnt even have a book and didnt study anything but the 10 question practice test and passed the class with a C. U have to be a real idiot to fail this class.
i rarely showed up, browsed over the book for about an hour before each test and made an a.
Prof Alexander is awesome. If you need help after, he will help! He is great
yo gotta be stupidest basstrd to fail this class its just too phukin easy
A good teacher; if you want an easy A, this is a class for you. Read/highlight the book alot b/c that where the tests come from. His lectures are great if your questions; ask any question and learn. Otherwise, his tone might bring you to sleep.
Um... is this the same as Bill Alexander? I would assume so and that is why I signed up for this class. If it is then it isn't nearly as easy as everyone says it is, at least not so far and we have taken one test. Aplia quizzes are freaking hard and the lectures don't really seem to help. He is a nice guy but the class is just hard.
He's a nice teacher, he lectures the whole time and welcomes questions. You have online assignments and his tests, all i did was read the book and made an A.
this class was hard when it first started, but i got help on the aplia assignments, and i dont go to class that much, cause his lectures are kinda boring, for the test i read the book and i make a pretty good grade. but thats reading alll the chapters. its a class if u like the subject, but hes still a super nice teacher.
EASY class. Read the book, do the assignments, and you should get an A. He's nice, always encouraging questions/comments. Gives lots of bounus points/dropped grades/make ups/curves, so you CAN'T FAIL. Lectures are sort of boring, but nothing too bad. He asks questions to the class sometimes, but its just common sense. RECOMMENDED!!
u will soon get bored of "Any questions folks? Any questions?" So d point is don't go to class if this will annoy you... just do the aplia and study b4 tests do ur extra credit and get an A. He will drop ur lowest test grade... that's good
He is a nice person. But WOAH!!! This guy looks and speaks JUST LIKE BEN STEIN !! Which is horrible. The lectures are EXTREMELY boring. The quizzes are difficult. This class was overall challenging. I wouldn't recommend him even though he is nice.
Dr. Alexander is a very nice teacher. He can answer the students’ problems with courtesies. The tests compose of multiple choice questions and essays. Students can get full grade of essays if they answer them in test. Students can turn in one paper to get extra points."
I think he goes by Bill Alexander too. Well, I have to admit that he was the nicest and easiest teacher for economics. He gives you extra credit paper which can boost your grade up 5 points. He has 3 tests, drop one. He has Aplia homework and they're not hard. I suggest that you read the book before attending lectures. You need to read the book!

okayy teacher..his tests are pretty straight foward, basically you need to come to class like every day to do good on his exams cuz they reflect his notes. the aplia assignment is useless, just makes econ more confusing, but it is 20% of ur grade. drops 1 exam from the 3, and gives alot of xtra credit points, including the 5 xtra to curve your avg.
i struggled in this class from day 1. i studied off the book (doesn't help at all) and made horrible grades. he's too monotone and tends to come late to class 80% of the time; yet, he gives extra credit like a couple points on the tests. 3 tests, drops the lowest one, aplia assignments and 1 comprehensive final. i personally hate economics
Two tests (48% each) and participation (4%). Tests are relatively easy as long as you read and study the book, do not only study the notes! Tests consist of multiple choice but essays are also on them.
He is easy going and nice. I strongly suggest to read and do the homework..Aplia. The class was easy and if you read and keep up with the homework then you will do well in the class.
Very nice teacher, great at what he does. Economics is a confusing subject to begin with, but prof. Alexander breaks it down as best as he can. I would recommend him for future students.
Although he comes late quite a bit, he always gives extra credit when he does. Tests come straight from his lectures, so if you come to class, it's hard to fail.
made horrible grades. gives extra credit every time he's late to class. 3 tests, drops the lowest one, aplia assignments (gives a curve) and 1 comprehensive final. i couldn't learn anything off of his class notes! but helps out as much as possible!
Very knowledgable about the subject, but can't present it in an understandable way for the students. I was very disappointed with his teaching methods. I'd advise anyone to take a different prof.
Easy to understand notes. Extra credits and decent curve. You should walk out with an A or B while leaning something.
I agree he is knowledgeable but his method of teaching makes it confusing to understand microeconomics. But he is the best eco prof out there. He gives crazy curves on the exams and bonus pts on your overall class grade. gives the least amount of aplia assignment than any other prof. Tip go to eco lab to do the aplia assignment. good help. hes good
Horrible teaching methods. is not interested at all in students understanding material.
Worst teaching methods i've ever seen. if you can avoid him, i would. School is known for picking some amazingly horrible teachers, this is just one of the many.
Very nice, truly cares about his students, and explains things very well - wants you to do well in his class.
Greatest Econ Professor ever!! Will accomodate student with disablity unlike any other!!! I never read the book! Never studied for test and made and A. Cares more than any professor and will be there for students when they need help! Wonderful professor!!! Take him!!! Best class ever!!
Nice teacher. talks too fast, his sentense structure is full of floby words, so Search for what he wants to say. He is very fair, very helpful, loves to stay after class to chat, fast classes, easy tests. Loved the class.
Lectures aren't very helpful, but he is extremely nice and very helpful. Test are easy, classes are short, and he gives extra credit.
He is a great teacher, but does not talk about what is on the book you read which is aplia. Great personality and can help you if you need it. Tests are departamental and he does talk about the test, although I did not read before I went to class. If you pay attention do your aplia assignments and take some notes you will be fine. Just try.
Great person, super dedicated to the students, puts out strong effort for the class, very prepared!
Nice teachers, but his lectures and practice test don't match up with the test. All he does is talk and draw graphs, your better off just reading the book and showing up on test days.
Take him!!!! Yes he might be late at times, but due to this he will give you extra credit. 3 exams only takes the 2 best grades plus a final. A 5pg paper will add 5 points to your overall grade. Curves aplia, and is very helpful and is willing to help you. He is great!
Great Professor. I'm studying for the final now. My current avg. is a 101. 3 tests, drops the lowest. His greatest strength is his one on one time with students. Talk to him if you take him. Get to know him and you will love the class. I just read the book a few times and did the questions. my grade day before final = 101. Take him.
This class is Microeconomics. He lectures all class period and writes the notes on the board which can sometimes be hard to read. If you want to understand the lecture, read before class! He is helpful if you go in and talk to him and he is understands that you have a full time job. His tests are multiple choice and essay but he grades easy.
I found his Managerial Analysis class very useful. I think most who had some difficulty were because they had very little prior exposure to economics. But for those of us who did he takes it to the level where you begin to apply the theory to real world practice. His tests were essay and m. choice he gave hints to what essays would be on the tes
He is a very nice person. He encourages his students to do well and gives an opportunity for extra credit (5 points on final grade). I didn't go to most of his lectures because they were not useful. He went off topic a lot. I suggest you read the book chapters carefully and do the aplia assignments. The class overall is not very difficult.
The class is simple. Read the chapters carefully, do the aplia assignments (they count as a grade), and do the extra credit paper if needed. It's as simple as that. I didn't go to class for his lectures but I did everything above and made an A in the course. He doesn't grade based on + and - so this class is a good way to bring up gpa.
I had a very hard time in this class, and failed the first two tests miserably! He offers extra credit for those who go to the football games or any other event to support the school. If you attend EVERY class, make an effort and do your best, he works with you! He is a great guy and I am grateful to him.
God, he wasn't an easy teacher. you meet him, think oh he's nice, this should be good, and he WANTS to help you and gives you all these scenarios that are real world style but honestly I learned next to nothing. He tries to fill the time by getting the class involved in asking questions. Psh. Nice guy though, very hard class. Gotta study REALLY har
Professor is nice, but lectures are hard to sit through. Asking a question usually means you won't get a helpful answer. Tests are not straight forward. Take notes and study all of the concepts he goes over in detail even if it seems like he didn't dwell on the information too long. Writing extra credit paper will move grade up one level.
Prof cares about the subject but large disconnect between lectures and the tests. You will have to read the book and teach yourself entirely. Curve is generous though for Bs and Cs.
He's a nice guy but it's very hard to follow his lecture. When you ask him a question, you won't get an answer. And he doesn't reply to emails (at least, not to mine, so far!)
be prepared to READ the chapters of the book for this class. honestly, the man tries his best to get us to understand such a dry and dull subject, but you'll soon find yourself reading the chapters as the lectures don't help much. 3 tests (best 2 grades taken), final, aplia, XC paper. would never have thought how much i would hate supply & demand..
The amount of fillers he uses during his lectures are enough to make you go crazy - they're very distracting if you're trying to focus on the POINT of the lecture. You may not get much from going to class, so make sure you read the book.
The material can be dull if you've not done much economics before. The Prof. draws a lot of graphs and explains real world applications in class, but you MUST read the text for the exams. He's very approachable & really makes a genuine effort to help the students. Extra credit paper definitely helps grades. Sample questions are important.
"Any questions folks?" "Everyone got a good handle on this?" "In other words..." "As you all very well know.." "In no way am I advocating..." "In this regard" Pretty much all you'll get from the lectures, but nice professor.
First off, his voice is SO monotonous. HARD to pay attention in class, doesnt take attendance & his notes are kinda pointless. Studied best from reading the book, gives a small review b4 tests, 3 test & a departmental final (67Qs),and extra credit paper. Drops lowest test. If ECON isn't your fave subject, like me, its just a hard class. He sucked.
He means well & is very approachable but just not the easiest person to pay attention to, notes on the board aren't organized & kinda pointless. I learned better from doing Aplia hw & reading the book.Just a dull subject but he wasn't much help!
Notes are kind of scattered, but he teaches well overall! 3 MC tests (drops lowest), departmental final, weekly online homework, and optional paper for extra credit. Easy class. Either go and take notes, or don't go and read the book. He's VERY nice, helpful, and spirited. Also gives bonus points for going to football games! :-)
Attendance isn't mandatory - he will call you out if you're more than 15 mins late. There are 3 exams plus a departmental final. 1 extra credit paper that can add 5 points to your grade. Aplia hw due every wk. Books is free on APLIA,print ch's and go2 class! Pretty good prof. easy B, final was HARD!! study!
Sometimes rambles, his lectures do not really prepare you for the test. Just read the book and do the hw. The tests are easy. He calls out students who are texting in class.
notes are pointless, you might as well don't go to class and just read the book. attendance is not mandatory. His notes don't help you with the test at all and they aren't in the best hand writting. His examples make no sense in anyway. His three favorite phases are "case in point", "folks", and "that said".
One of the best teachers at UH. He's really easy, just study the chapters(which are short), and know the graphs(not hard). Easy A. 3 tests(drops lowest), final, and 1 ex. credit paper adding 5 pts to ur overall final grade. About 15 applia hws throughout the semester. Also gives ex. credit for going to football games. Definitely taking him again.
Easy class. No attendance check. You don't need to go to class everyday. Just read the book, understand the materials and do applia homeworks. The test is multiple choices. You just need to come to the day before test to learn his review and you will be fine. I got an A without much effort.
Not an extremely challenging course, attendance is not mandatory. He's really a nice guy, just really boring... If you can handle it, dont go to class and just read your book at home and do all the aplia hw. Outline the chapters before the test and you'll do good. Large curves on basically everything. EC paper that adds 5 pts to total grade!!!
Attendance is not needed, but if you go to class he will recognize it and in the end it pays off. His lectures are borig its really hard to pay attension. Just read and know the chapters and do aplia assignments and tests arent so bead. He curves everything. Comprehensive departmental final, he is the one who writes it so thats a plus.
Boring professor, no need to take notes; they will not help you on the test. His lectures and examples are pointless test wise. I heard micro is the way to go and I would take another professor if I could.
If you take this guy, you are in for a treat!.......NOT. worst professor i've taken at UH. this guy doesn't make sense in his lessons,so theres no point of going to class, read the book, AND YOU STILL FAIL. test are extremely hard. TAKE HIM AT YOUR OWN RISK!
I failed every single test i took and did 1 or 2 aplia homeworks and i STILL got out with a C. Trust me, he knows this class isn't easy and the massive curve at the end reflected it.
Easy A. Must read book to get a good grade. All of the test questions are taken straight from the book. Outline each section and pay attention for conditionals to outline with, such as, "IF demand goes up then X happens". Memorize all conditionals, graphs, and formulas. Extra credit paper is worth doing for adding points to your average.
Dr. Alexander is a horrible teacher, straight up. However, he's a good person and I developed a good relationship with him. He knows SOO much about economics because he's lived and breathed it since he was 18. He just isn't very good at conveying the concepts to students. Easy class. Read the book, do the aplia and the paper and you'll get an A.
I will be taking him again. The information was difficult to pick up but he was always more then willing to help. Defiantly go to class. Although he does not take attendance he notices who does and doesnt show up to class and it plays a big role in grade. By the book because it really helped me with vocab.
Attendance not mandatory but to do well you should come, he recognizes those who show up to class and it may earn you extra points in the end as well. A lot of extra credit opportunities such as going to games, optional paper on any economics topic etc. I recommend him.
Has huge amount of information about the subject, however, extremely poor in delivering information to students. Also, grading is horrible, 50% mid-term and 50% final!! As a character so helpful but again lacks the ability to deliver and believes everybody came to class already knowing the subject very well so did very little explanations
He's an easy professor of course; but his lecture's boring. Read the book and teach yourself, and you're fine. Yes he curves; but trust me, it DOESN'T affect your overall really much. He curves 10 points for your test and aplia and that's all. The rest of it is just your effort. I passed this class with a B, and trust me, it's all my own effort.
He's a smart guy for sure. The problem is that he's not very good at communicating. Read the book (and don't get to thinking that just because he didn't cover it in class, that it won't be on the test),and keep on reading the book, and you'll be fine. The lectures aren't worth much more than anecdotal knowledge about the subject.
Hes a great professor, very clear, concise and up to the point. Class isnt mandatory but everything on his lectures are on his test. I would recommend this class if you like economics and have a good understanding of it. GREAT TEACHER!
He knows what he is talking about, he just doesn't know that you may not know what he is talking about. Read the book as the test is from the book and not his lectures. His lectures are designed to really just be supplemental knowledge.
Took him for Econ2304. Not great at communicating with students, but you can tell he knows he's talking about and is passionate about economics. I attended class daily, but didn't really pay attention much. He does notice who goes to class. Read the book, understand the material, and you'll pass the class.
Mr. Alexander is a smart economics teacher. It is crucial to read and understand all concepts from the book as class notes will not help all that much for the test. I did find it helpful to attend class and he offers an extra credit paper adding 5 pt. bonus to your average.
Knows his econ but just can't teach it. Textbook and homeworks helped me the most even though I only did alright on the tests. He's always there to help though. He also went off tangent a lot because students in class asked questions.
This class would be okay if you already know alot about Economics if not you will be lost. He uses APLIA as the Textbook which is a BIG help but doesnt help on Test. He is very monotone. Also he is a bit RUDE from time to time.
Super knowledgeable but has a hard time transferring that knowledge. In his lectures he just keeps talking and keeps writing on the board without stopping. Lectures are pretty useless. Only grades are a midterm and final. Just read the book and go to the review session and you'll do fine.
Boring... Kind of hard exams. Just pay attention and study the homeworks thoroughly
The difference in the level of depth to which subject matter is covered in the class and what is required for the exam is too much. What you hear in the class is more generic and seems marginally useful for the real world but test questions are interesting and show subject's usefulness for the real world issues.
I had to drop out of this class because it is so fast paced back in Fall. Knows ECON but can't teach it. Very monotone. APLIA for HW kinda helps. Must read book. I wished his lectures cover the concepts instead of giving examples. Hard tests. In summary, take another professor or do it in summer if you can if you are absolutely clueless on ECON.
Fair class. Not much of a teacher, it's better to just read the book. Showed up mostly on test days and did fairly well. Gives extra credit paper. 3 tests and a final.
Great Professor, really gets along well with student, always open to questions. Final was very different from what he taught in class, but his 5 point extra credit more than compensates for it.
He is one of the best core professors I have had! What a nice guy and great professor! The lectures can be somewhat difficult to take notes from, so it is best to just write down what he has on the board and listen to his discussions and examples. As long as you read the book, the homeworks and tests are easy. Would highly recommend him!
Don't bother with class. He is very knowledgeable and a nice guy, but he never stops when he's lecturing. He moves from one topic to another with no transition or warning. Very hard to follow. Just read the book and study the slides he puts online and you'll do fine.
Too fast paced. Lectures are not concept based which is very difficult to follow if you haven't read ahead, he only talks application based, which doesn't help. Reviews are useless. 3 tests are hard IMO. APLIA somewhat helps. Knows ECON but can't teach it. I had to drop out with a W in the middle of the semester, which shows how bad it is.
Mr. Alexander is a professional, but not teaching material, he does not have a PhD. Unorganized chicken scratch notes. Rambling and non connecting lectures. Confusing test questions. If you need material presented step by step STAY AWAY.
If I try my best I can only pay attention to about 1 sentence per class. I don't even know why I go to class. I've never seen a teacher be so terrible at engaging the students. I swear to you it's the most boring class I've ever taken. I'm still in this class so the textbook is my only hope. It's really not terribly hard though.
He is all over the place. He is extremely knowledgeable but does't know how to put that into the lecture. Got an A with help of additional paper. If you want a good grade, this is for you. If you want to learn something new, you are already looking in a wrong page :)
HORRIBLE though he generally curves the final grades on this class your grade will suck to begin with he does not explain anything based on the book so you have to teach yourself with online assignments and have no idea when it comes to the test the test are extremely hard so its up to you curve and difficult or risk another professor
This class is like taking 2 classes. There's his lectures, then the book. His lectures are pretty much how the principles in economics are laid out in the real world. This may sound good but I assure you its not. He just rambles and rambles, and then throws curve balls at you on the test. Unless you want to learn from just the book DO NOT TAKE.
Everything mentioned regarding his irrelevant lectures and tests are true. In addition to that, he is extremely rude and indirectly condescending with his class discussions. He will stop class and go outside to yell at someone, claiming they are disrupting his class by leaving early, when in reality he is his own disturbance.
He really cares about the students, and will go back and explain anything. The lectures are pretty much the same as the book, and the notes he writes on the board don't really make sense, but if you go to class and make an effort he grades leniently.
Alexander is the worst. He is condescending and treats his students like kids. No cell phones, laptops, or talking in class or he will call you out. If you take him, don't go to class, anything that comes out of his mouth won't be on the test. Also he will talk all semester about how amazing his curve is but will only give 2 points at the end.
Most of the people in the class had to teach themselves finance. He goes WAY too high level and spends little to no time on the actual math involved. HW is all math and details. Tests are all conceptual and have NOTHING to do with homework. Tests were fairly easy but as a professor, he's quite useless. Smart guy, bad teacher.
WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD HE IS ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE HE IS SMART BUT CAN NOT I REPEAT CAN NOT TEACH
PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS PROFESSOR!! I've always been an A student and having to teach myself ECONOMICS was hard. I had no problem doing it, but then what's the point of paying professors to do their JOB? And even then I still think I am going to get like a low C.
Stay away from this professor if you care for your GPA. He makes no sense when lecturing. THE WORST PROFESSOR EVER DOES'T KNOW HOW TO TEACH!!!!!!
His lectures are there to prepare you for what's going on in the real world. They might come off as irrelevant to what's on Aplia, but he also cares about your future. He's there for you if you just ask. Take Aplia seriously because a lot of the material there are on the exams. Great man overall, great professor.
This professor is very knowledgable and has a passion for economics. He is also always there if you need help. With that said, the class is tough. It's very difficult to follow the lectures and the notes I took in class didn't seem to be much help come test time (had to rely on aplia). I like the guy, but I personally would not take him again.
Hardest class I took all semester! Prof. Alexander seems like a very nice and decent man. Unfortunately, not much can be said about his teaching. You'll have to teach yourself and be on you game ALL SEMESTER. The only thing that helped me not fail was the curves given by the Economics department. Not recommended if you're not affluent in economics.
Most of the class is online work. Lectures are pretty boring and not very clear. He spends a lot of time drawing on the board, but not a lot of time explaining it. He is a very nice man. Tests are pretty easy. He offers one extra credit paper at the end of the semester.
This professor is one of the smartest professors I've encountered! He really passionate over economics, however is not able to transfer that knowledge over. I attended the majority of his class but it does not really help for exams. I basically had to teach myself and use other resources to barely get a C+. I would avoid taking him honestly.
Nice guy, horrible professor. Most confusing and hardest class i've ever taken. Marco-economics. His test, homework and lecture's hardly reflect each other. His reviews for the test are hardly on the test and they were only 10 quest. He was mostly late and when you try to ask a question be prepared for a very long answer that doesn't answer your ?.
Professor Alexander is a very smart professor who doesn't only talk about what we've been reading in the textbook, but brings in real-life situations that we can relate to today. His exams are fairly easy as long as you stay up to date with the reading chapters assigned and participation isn't mandatory, but he does ask us a couple of questions
Nice man but terrible teacher. Scribbles nonsense all over the board & then reads it back to you. Is late most days and cancels class at least 5 times a semester. To make an A or B either you have to know macro well before coming in or have a tutor. He does curve your ending grade about 10 points but still be prepared to self teach.
I had Prof. Alexander for dual credit Macro this year. MAKE SURE YOU READ AND UNDERSTAND THE BOOK, if you have that you'll make an A. His Aplia assignments are best done with friends, but for the majority of the class he gave full credit even if they were failing. Look at the pract. quizzes and study the chapters for the test and you'll be fine.
Bill is a man who means very well. However, as the other people have said, his lectures are absolutely intelligible. The notes he writes on the board are for his reference only, apparently, because the student can't understand them. If you take his class, I suggest you keep up with Aplia, and only show up for review days and the test.
Micro is the worst class I've ever taken, but not because of prof Alexander. He does a good job of applying concepts to real world, but that isn't helpful on exams. Aplia HW's are horrible. Basically have to teach yourself in order to get a good grade on them. Drops lowest test grade. Prepare for lots and lots of studying.
Alexander is nice, but i had to teach myself all semester. He just talks the whole time in class, doesn't give reviews, and the homework doesn't relate to the test
Professor Alexander, is a little unclear about what he is teaching you and what is going to be on the test. Pay close attention to the book, and do the aplia homework. Three test and he drops the lowest grade, he also give an extra credit paper (its pretty easy). Overall nice guy, Curve at the end of the semester.
Professor Alexander is a nice and knowledgeable man. He cannot teach, though. His lectures are consisted of him rambling on endlessly about irrelevant material to the exams. The notes he writes on the board every class meeting make no sense at all. His class will only be easy if you are already affluent in economics - otherwise, self-teach 100%.
Professor Alexander seem to be a really good professor the first few weeks of school but towards the end it all changed. What he teaches in class is nothing related to the test or the Aplia home work. He always gets late to class and says "Once again guys sorry for being late". Get ready to read the book as well!
professor is a very nice guy but has horrible handwriting. you cant read a thing. its basically chicken scratch. his test are super hard and no extra credit is given. one common assignment due at the end of the year. also do not buy the access code for the textbook it is a complete waste.
had him for macroeconomics, never went to class, still got an A. I think i went about 2 or 3 times the whole semester. read the book and do the aplia assignments, he's good about curving tests and such. don't take him if you can't self teach. great guy with great stories/ perspectives
Heavy use of Aplia online. Tells the class that the homework will not help with the class. He does drop a test, but it doesn't help when you fail every test. He curves the test so that the average grade is a 70, so basically half the class fails with a curve. You must teach yourself the material or you will not pass. AVOID ECON AT UH.
The professor is obviously knowledgeable in his field. Take this class if you have some background knowledge in Econ. He does come to class late almost every day, but other than that, not too bad. Just listen in class, sit in the front and answer questions, and you'll breeze through. Be sure to read. And hear the same examples over and over.
I didn't really learn much from professor Alexander maybe because it was a Saturday class and everything was kind of rushed. It didn't help that he was 10 minutes late Saturday. If you read the book you might be ok.
He is a really nice man who is passionate about economics and respects his students, but I have no idea where he gets his test questions from. Make sure to do your Aplia assignments. They will help you understand the material and are 20% of your grade. Attend all classes and you may get a curve in the end. Take a different professor if possible.
Lectures are completely disorganized, comes in with the board already filled with drawings and bullet points that look as though they're straight out of a child's notebook who is just learning to write as it is completely incomprehensible and would takes hours of decoding just to figure out what he wrote. Not helpful at all, must teach yourself.
Honestly, if UH doesn't anyone better than this guy teaching economics, the UH economics department is forever subpar. This might as well be label as an online class because you will learn more by doing the reading than showing up to class but if you show up, you might get close to him and he might curve you more (not confirmed).
- Takes forever to put in grades (literally the last minute) - The final is 50% of your grade - Lectures aren't that helpful - The Aplia assignments get really hard after awhile (online assignment) - Syllabus is very vague - If you can, take another a professor!!!!
His lectures are straight forward regarding how economics work and he's very active in finding feedback from students to make sure they're all learning. More sources from the textbooks could be implemented into the lecture but overall he's a great professor.
You walk into class and he has the notes pre scribbled all over the 3 chalk boards. Good luck reading anything, a kid can write more legibly. Tends to talk about things that are not going to be on the test, but brushes over the stuff that is actually critical to the exam. Dont take him if you want a good grade.
Lectures are not attendance based so if they help you understand by all means GO but if they don't like they didn't for me then just keep up on your own. I read the chapters, did the aplia assignments, and watched videos on the topics. ACDC Econ and Ageconjon helped me a lot in understanding and application. I think self teaching is key.
The professor himself is so knowledgeable, smart, and has excellent lectures. I recommend you not take it at UH instead go to a community college. Very difficult course only because the lecture and exam do not mirror each other. This is not a straightforward A. Instead it is a class where you teach yourself. Exams are concept/application based.
I stopped showing up to class cause it really doesn't help. You need to rely completely on the textbook cause showing up for the lectures is basically useless. He's a very nice man and is quick to answer emails but oh man. If I could drop it I would have. Find a different professor if you want an A.
His lass has nothing to do with the tests. Tests were HARD. You have to teach yourself this class with the book.
I would probably say this class is definitely self-taught. His lectures did not coincide with his exams. I read the textbook, went to study groups, and even tried tutoring did not help. I end up dropping the course because I did not want a C...
Imagine walking into class and everything that will be talked about for the next few weeks is already written in chicken scratch on the board. It was like that every class, extremely hard to follow. He goes off topic constantly and is impossible to reach by email. Do yourself a favor and take literally any other professor, or go to Lonestar or HCC.
Don't bother going to class, it won't help. I pulled all-nighters and read the chapters from the textbook and did fine on his tests. He has a homework due every week which are simple enough, but don't study them for the test, they didn't helped me. They typically took an hour to complete. He, as a professor, is boring and vague.
He curves the tests, he curves the aplia hw's, and I think he even curved everyone's overall grade in the course. His tests aren't bad if you understand the overall concepts he goes over in class. He is a really nice guy that is willing to answer any questions you may have during and after class. Just make sure you don't use your phone/laptop.
He is a hilarious professor. Long and short of it. Does everyone have their bearings?
Great guy, but not so great teacher. Imagine going into class and listening to a lecture over something that has absolutely nothing to do with anything mentioned and then asked if you had your bearings before the lecturer decides to press on. Bottom line, I would have taken another professor had I known what I was signing up for. Still a great guy.
This class is self-taught. The only reason I would go to class is to know what chapter we're in or for review days (He usually lets you know what chapters to focus on the most).
He is a really nice guy, but after a whole semester I still don't know anything about microeconomics.
This was the worst professor I've had. He doesn't really "teach," he writes things on the board, asks if u have ur bearings, gives no time for questions and just moves on. The textbook and his lectures barely correlate, & the test is nothing like the class reviews. When I reached out and emailed him, he never responded, this happened 2. DONT TAKE!!
This is one of the sweetest men Ive ever had as a teacher. Extremely kind & accessible outside of class. However, he CANNOT teach well. He is very unclear during lectures and scatterbrained to the point that I stopped attending lectures. I got an A in the class- it is relatively easy if you READ THE BOOK & do the homeworks. Lectures are pointless
Attendance wasn't mandatory when I took him, but he does pick up on whether or not you go to class. Class can get boring, and tests aren't really based off lectures so there's that. Stay off your phone/laptop or he'll get mad, make sure you have your bearings, and make sure to understand the whole 9 yards.
His lectures are off topic & had nothing to do with the tests. I managed to get an A because this class is pretty easy if you just do the work & study by watching youtube videos, I recommend Jacob Clifford's. Attendance isn't mandatory so there's no point in going other than for tests & maybe review days since he sometimes emphasizes what to study.
Good guy and may curve some tests. Lecture heavy and his delivery is hard to follow, and dry. Very knowledgeable and he cares if you reach out to him for help or questions. Read the textbook and apply yourself in the Aplia assignments and youll do fine. Only take Econ if youre interested in the subject.
