This is the coolest, most easiest ORGANIC Chemistry teacher that I have ever had. He explains things so well and relates the chemistry figures to real life situations to easily remember them. TAKE HIM IF YOU WANNA PASS! Hes on a 12 point grading scale also!

Great teache . . . his test is full of pharmaceutical molecules and real life molecules and he TRULY forces you to apply everything you learn. Tests are very very spread out so they cover a lot of material. Be ready to work really hard to make an A in this class.

Dr. Allen is by far the best teacher at ECU. he knows what he's talking about yet he doesnt try to prove to you he's smarter than you. He occasionally brings food to demonstrate examples, you dont have to read the book like most courses, just write and rewrite the notes over and over again.

Dr. Allen truly knows how to teach. Class is exciting. I am in med school now- you need a great teacher like him if you ever hope to pass med school. By the way- med school is 50 times harder than undergrad.

Definitely lucked out getting Dr. Allen for Organic 2--he was the BEST teacher for Organic 1. I've never had a teacher so willing to help explain things (as much as you need to get it). Totally the best teacher I've had at ECU!!

What an amazing teacher and person. He is an honest teacher who tests you on what he says and no bullcrap on the tests. He is always willing to help you out of class and enhances your understanding of science as a whole. You definitely want him and I wish there were more teachers out there like Dr. Allen

FABULOUS! Dr. Allen is 110% the best professor. It's a dag on shame he doesn't teach other difficult courses. You will be amazed at his honesty and dedication to his students. By the way he is the only professor I have had in my 3 years that I felt it necessary to brag on - he's just that FAB of a teacher!

By far, the best prof for organic. he will teach you stuff you need to know, and will remember. If the chem dept wanted what was best for chem students, they should make Allen teach all the classes. He should be made to teach and not do research.

It's true he is the VERY BEST teacher at ECU. I hated chemistry before I took his class. The class isn't easy but he makes you want to come to class and learn. And you do learn and it is possible for anyone to get a A or B. TAKE HIS CLASS!!!!!

The man can dress, oh yeah he teaches pretty well also. Actually, Dr. Allen is by far the best professor I've had since I came to ECU and I don't expect that to change. He is very clear about the information, gives you a study guide, and gives a review session in class. Once, I went by his office and saw him playing video games; hes the man!

Dont be fooled by his facade of helpfulness, he is just like every other chem professor here. Dont trust his practice tests, as they are way easier than the real deal. Doesnt curve, and schedules tests at stupid times. Take him if you have a death wish.

Dr. Allen is very helpful and easy to understand. He will stay after hours to help you get ready for a test. When I emailed him, he responded in 10 min. Anytime I went to his office he opened his door and answered my questions. Plus he made class fun. He also brought food for everyone one. Great professor!

Dr. Allen is great at teaching the material, however he is very arrogant when it comes to helping students. He preaches in class how he is always willing to help, but if you come by his office he is very rude and makes you feel small. P.S. he's not that hot so stop with the peppers people.

Dr Allen is great. This is the second time I took the course with him, and I must say he's really good at what he does. Just do well on the quizzes and study for the tests and you'll be fine. The way he does synthesis problems is great and his demos are great fun. Take him for sure.

Dr. Allen is a good professor. He can be a little tricky on his tests sometimes. Chemistry is a tough course and requires a lot of studying. Allen makes it somewhat better though with his enthusiam in teaching and clarity. I recommend taking him over a lot of the other chemistry professors here.

You need to take Dr. Allen for chem 1120, he is absolutely the best professor at ecu for this class. As long as you go to class you will do really well on the short, easy quizzes he gives you every friday.

Great teacher! He will help you with anything you need. The class is fun and interesting because he is such a good teacher with a awesome personality. Plus the class is on a 12pt scale so it is easy to get a good grade in the class! Oh no HW or test either, just quizzes on Fridays that are not too hard at all! :D

My high school teacher was terrible for chemistry. I honestly thought I was going to bomb chem, but he is an awesome teacher. I wish he taught 1130. His lectures make almost everything clear. He also doesnt just do big tests he does small quizzes every friday instead which is helpful. I highly recommend him.

Amazing Teacher! The material is hard and you DO have to study but he teaches so good and does an experiment at least twice a week. I actually look forward to going to class because he makes it enjoyable! He gives a quize very friday over the material covered through the week. No exam if you have a 76 or better. He is always willing to help!

This is how good this guy is: I bought the textbook at the beginning of the year, and have not opened it once. His grading scale is amazing: 88-100 is an A, 76-87 is a B, etc. And if you have a 76 average (on the weekly quizzes, which are easy if you pay attention), then you do not have to take the exam. He is an excellent professor and a nice guy.

he is an excellent professor. i have this class 4 times/week and don't mind at all. he is very passionate about what he teaches and finds creative ways to explain everything so it is easy to understand. i highly recommend taking him. his grading scale is great and he provides extra credit as well as plenty of opportunities to get your grade up.

EVERYTHING about this guy is TRUE!!! he's totally amazing and he goes out of his way to do experiments to try to help you understand. He proved to ECU that with a good teacher all medicine majors could pass both chemistries on the first tryif the teacher does their job correctly...I wish he would have stuck around for chem 1130!!!

This was a hard class and he made it easy... we didnt have test just a quiz every friday and then at the end of the semester if you had a B or higher on your quizzes then you did not have to take the final... I really wish I could have taken him for 1130 too... he is the man... he cracks jokes and keeps you interested in the material... loved him

He made it seem so much simpler & easier than you could have ever thought that it'd be. I got a B in this class without studying any except the day before tests. No powerpoints! The notes you'll take in his class are all you'll need to review Organic I for PCAT or MCAT. They are concise and to the very essence. Makes complicated concepts clear and accessible to students. Brings chocolate& other snacks and blows things up during demonstrations. Dr. Allen surely got his electrons together.

Best professor I ever had. Make a boring class interesting, does awesome experiment, will help you up to the minute before the test, class is out of 400 pts, 4 tests and 10 quizes that make up 1 test, so basically 5 test grades and he drops your lowest all the quizes or one test. I got an A and dropped my final and I never cracked the book 1 time.

Dr. Allen is a very enthusiastic professor and makes class very fun. He's without a doubt my favorite professor I've had at ECU. The material and tests are hard, but if you put in time and do well on the quizzes you'll be fine.

Dr. Allen not only was my favorite professor but definitely the best chemistry professor at ECU. Don't let that fact that he's a great professor fool you into thinking this class will be easy, because it definitely is not. He explains things very well, but you will work hard. He does everything he can to help you out, including posting old exams for practice and giving extra credit for attendance. Do everything you can to get him!

He is so helpful and easy to talk to. The subject matter is difficult to grasp at times, but he really does do everything to help you. He gives extra credit and does fun demonstrations. I tried taking him for 1130 too, but he wasn't teaching it. I highly recommend him!

Dr. Allen clearly loves what he does. He always had a demonstration for every lecture which gave the class something to look forward to (because lets be honest, converting chemical equations is not the most interesting thing in the world). He was always very helpful during his office hours as well.

I honestly wish that Dr. Allen taught all the chemistry classes. I'm not a huge chemistry fan, but Allen made everything not only medically relevant, but relevant to life in general. I love chemistry, but I know that isn't true for a lot of others taking organic chemistry. However, I strongly believe that everyone grows to love organic chemistry with Dr. Allen. The first day he tossed out candy and he always provided real life applications and analogies to make recall easier. He even drops a test grade!

He does demonstrations during lectures that relate to what we are learning to help clarify the material. Also uploads old exams so you can see what to expect. If you go to his office, he is willing to help!

Dr. Allen is amazing i would recommend him to anyone. Chemistry is hard but he makes it simple and understandable. He is also there to help whenever you need. He gives extra credit for coming to class and for doing an extra HW assignment.

I love Dr. Allen but he lectures very quickly. His class was interesting with plenty of fun demonstrations, but he does not do a good job at showing examples of problems.

Dr. Allen is by far my favorite professor. He is very helpful and tries to make sure everyone understands everything. His office hours are very helpful, and he spends as much time as he needs with you until you are comfortable with the topic. He has helped me so much with topics I struggled in before the tests. Mr. Allen is a great guy! i had him for chem 1120, he was great and very enthusiastic to teach about the subject. Tests were not hard if you didn't practice the test study guide (they were literally identical). No attendance taken except after test days. Homework were simply easy ( sometimes you can google them). Overall class was actually fun!

Dr. Allen is the best. If you are taking a chem class, take it with Dr. Allen. He is so passionate about teaching and helping his students succeed, it really shows. He is very good at breaking down the material. It is complicated information, but when he explains it, you get it. You still have to study, but an A is possible.

What can I say... Mr. Allen is a knowledgable and awesome teacher! Lectures are great... he adds in lots of examples. He also keeps class interesting by sharing funny stories/information. Extremely bright teacher... he is very positive and helpful. Also does a lot of experiments to keep the class fun. Take him if you can, you won't regret it!!!

Allen is a wonderful professor. He is very helpful if you go to his office hours. I wish he would give more examples in class. Homework is averaged together and counted as a test grade so try to keep a high A on your mastering chemistry! Tests are extremely difficult. He gives EXTRA CREDIT if you go to the class after EACH test! Good Luck

Dr. Allen is the best professor I have taken. I look forward to going to his class everyday. He is hilarious and keeps you laughing and learning through lecture. His lectures are clear and educational. His tests are straight forward and as long as you study it's not hard to get a 90. Highly recommend and would take him for every class if possible.

Very clear about what you need to do. Show up, take notes, print out the practice tests and you'll be fine. I had him for lab and lecture and he never tricks you on grades and is pretty helpful and funny.

Definitely take Dr. Allen! His class was enjoyable and he is great at teaching the material. The material is tough but he gives you all of the outlets needed to do well, including practice tests and extra help in his office. He is a very nice and personable professor and he keeps the class interested. I would take again even if it was an 8 A.M.

You absolutely MUST go to class if you expect to pass. Literally take the notes from class and find practice problems on them in the book and you'll be golden. An easy A if you have decent study habits.

Most awesome chemistry professor ever! I absolutely loved taking his class. Book and clicker isnt necessary to buy, and participation isnt mandatory BUT if you dont go to class, he does notice. So if you go walking into his office for a little extra guidance, he definitely can tell if you are going to class or not. You wont regret taking his class

This is the best professor at ECU, I hated chem until I took this class. His classes are large (about 250) but he still will remember most peoples names and really wants everyone to pass. Clear grading criteria and great teacher.

Awesome teacher! He's funny and makes class interesting. He makes a point to learn your name (if you participate) and he cares about all his students. Tests are pretty easy if you do the study guide. Definitely take him if you have the chance! Don't worry about buying the book -- he doesn't use it.

You have plenty of resources to help you pass, you just have to put forth the effort. He is awesome and makes class fun!

If you don't put in the effort outside of class, you won't pass. He is entertaining, making chemistry a lot more bearable. You have homework once a week, but it's not hard at all.

With a burning passion to teach, he makes things very retable & easy to understand. Go to class & you shouldn't have to open your book. Do the practice tests until you understand the concepts & you will make good grades.

I was scared to take this class because I didn't do well in chemistry in high school but Dr. Allen explains concepts in a way that makes them easy to understand. You have weekly hw, but it's not bad because you can work with other people and it prepares you well for his tests. He also provides you with old tests to study. If you're taking chem 1120 DEFINETLY take it with Dr. Allen. He makes his lectures interesting and he is always willing to help when needed. His tests are very hard and you have to study to pass. You do not use the textbook but it is helpful to have. He doesn't take attendance, but you will not do well if you don't go.

The BEST professor at ECU. He is hilarious and cares so much about his students. Dr. Allen is an amazing teacher. He's engaged and dedicated. But he's SO easy. That sounds great, until you realize he doesn't teach chem 1130 and half the material you needed to know from 1120 he didn't teach you. Its a great class, its fun, its easy, but it will NOT prepare you for chem 1130.

At first for me it was REALLY hard. I did not have a great chemistry class in high school so I did not understand anything till the 3rd exam :( but I got a 100 on it so there is hope. I went from a low C to a B in the end (thanks to that 100 on exam 3). There were 3 exams and one final, which is made from the department... STUDY HARD!

Dr. Allen is by far the best professor I've had at ECU, and I'm a Senior. He is probably also the most organized teacher I've had, breaking down each section so that you don't get lost in the material. Highly recommend taking him for any chemistry course. The grading scale is very generous and he is always willing to meet during office hours. 10/10

Dr. Allen is the best!! If you have the chance to take him, do it!! His tests are multiple choice (3) and a multiple choice final exam. There is homework every week, he drops the lowest grade, then averages out the homework and counts it as a test grade (easy A grade!). He's very welcoming, helpful, and never makes you feel stupid. Dr. Allen is by far the best professor I have ever had. Organic Chemistry in itself is a hard subject to learn, but he makes it so easy. He always related whatever the topic to a real life example or bring food to class to help show it. The tests were a little difficult but if you do the practice exams posted and take good notes youll pass easily.

Dr. Allen is the best chem professor you could ask for if you're an intended nursing major. Lectures are always interesting, and he always tries to include a fun demonstration about once a week. Tests are very hard, so you need to study about a week in advance. Attendance is not mandatory, but I would 100% recommend going because he makes class fun

I really enjoyed his class! There are weekly assignments in class for a grade so try to do well cause they can add up. Try going to his office to get a better understanding of the class work if you dont understand. Definitely go to class and tutoring sessions at PASC. Also do the extra credit assignments!! Really helps toward the final.

Dr. Allen was an amazing professor!!!!! His class is definitely not easy considering i got a C+ (mostly because of exams.) Allens class has a nice layout where you have 3 exams, a final and 2-3 question handouts you can do with a few people to bump your grade up a little bit and is graded out of 5 points. I can't even put into words how amazing this professor is. The class is challenging and requires a lot of work and effort, but he makes every moment of his lectures enjoyable. He is also very caring and helpful. Take him if you can and you won't regret it!

You do need to practice and review the material outside of class every week. There is no homework, but he does give out worksheets that count for extra credit on exams. Took this class last semester and am just now getting around to writing a review. Dr. Allen is the sole reason I got through organic. I went to his office hours frequently. He's able to break down hard topics into digestible pieces. He was a super fun guy to just sit and chat about life with, also! Find myself missing it sometimes. He's THAT good.

He was overall great! Taking his class next semester too so hopefully it's the same story.
