it takes a while to get used to his accent. and he is a challenging prof. but overall, a good guy.
His class isn't the easiest, it is challenging, but he is always more than happy to help. He used to stay late and come in on the weekend just to help his students. Overall, he's a really nice guy who knows his stuff.

Dr. Anyonge truly cares about his students and their performance in his class. His class is challenging and requires a lot of studying, but he is willing to help in any way.
Dr. A is a great guy with a terrific sense of humor. He is easy to approach and keeps it interesting. He is very enthusiastic about the material, but he will work your butt off!
Very hard tests but lectures are pretty clear. requires a lot of studying.
Dr. Anyonge was a great professor. You have to study a lot in his class, but he is interested in his students and their success.
OY!! You will do some serious studying, not cramming, STUDYING!! But he is an awesome guy and wants you to learn and will help you with any questions. Go to office hours. He is a very enthusiastic and funny teacher.
He is very willing to work with you. Some times it is hard to follow him, but read the chapters as well as go over the notes, and you will be fine. Of course you have to study, ITS ANATOMY!
nice infront of the class but then rude when he talks to you, and not helpful at all when i went to his office hours
His lectures are confusing and there is too much material that he doesn't specify. I thought he was a nice guy until I met with him in his office. He was horrifically discouraging and not helpful at all. I really loved human anatomy until I took his class.
Dr. Anyonge is *very* energetic and involved in his work. His tests are fairly hard, but I think it's worth it. I've never met a professor before who you can **** with in his office for 2 hours at midnight. He's got some fairly interesting stories as well.
watch out for trick question tests!!
Dr.Anyonge is a very nice and funny guy. This course requires TONS of memorization though, and since there's only one test every three weeks there is sooo much information in one test. Watch out for tricky questions! Makes sure his students understand everything, but at times can make the material sound more confusing. Willing to always chat
Seeing him after the lectures really clear things up fpr me....I like the fact that he doesn't teach to the book...I haven't had one of his take home tests yet...I'm hoping it won't be too hard...

Dr. A was very hard so you have to bust your ass off if you want to get at least a B. However, he was a fun teacher and he helps you if you ask for help. He also loves talking about sports. He was my favorite teacher at X
Class is pretty much just memorization.... Not too bad but lectures are boring

WTF- The man can be difficult to understand at times, but he knows what he's talking about. His tests are pretty difficult.
He is a very hard teacher. I had to drop the class even though I had a tutor. He talks about his wife and his running all the time which causes him to go off topic. I enjoyed A & P in high school but now I'm not too sure if I like it anymore. He tells students that they need to study for his tests two weeks in advance. Take someone else first.
he is funny and a great teacher
HATED THE CLASS. HORRIBLE
dr. a is a great teacher. he was very helpful and set up extra review sessions. always available to talk. keeps class light
Awesome prof. Tries to keep the class light, no extra work. Tests are directly from his notes, but you have to study hard. Going to class isn't absolutely necessary, but it will make things easier. Very nice guy, extremely helpful. I would definately recommend him.
DON'T EVER TAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not only is Dr. Anyonge a good teacher but he's also just a great person in general. His class is difficult but he is ALWAYS willing to help. HE expects u to study and now that i dont have him anymore his class was great preparation to study for more classes. Take the class if you know u are willing to work at it b/c he is GREAT i swear!!
this class was about evolution and taxonomy which i dont really find interesting, but anyonge is one of the coolest professors. he knows what he is talking about, lectures are interestings, tests arent easy but not hard. anybody complaining about him just did badly in his class because they didnt try.
Awesome guy, very funny and always willing to spend the extra time to explain things. Tough class but he gives you everything you need to do well. His notes are awesome and lectures are actually interesting, you can tell he really enjoys this stuff.
Tests cover only the material in the notes (no need to read the book) but his tests are extremely hard. The material is not conceptually difficult, but he makes the class hard by having every question be a "trick question". 50 multiple choice questions and about 5 straight-forward questions on each test. Pure memorization.
Straightforward, tests are pretty tough but if you study you can get an A or B. Everything you need to know is on the powerpoints in class. Has a sweet Kenyan accent and is a really nice guy. Anyonge rocks!
I love Dr. Anygonge. He was funny, sweet, always ready to help, and we really got to know him on a personal level. He is really excited to be teaching and makes the class fun. He has a big heart.
He's alright, but has a tendancy to drone on nd on, and to teach to the smartest students in the class.
Fantastic teacher. His tests are difficult, but he will work and talk with students until very late hours. He is never rude, and by far the best teacher I have ever had so far in my life.
Great Professor, Very difficult. Be prepared to memorize every fact from the book. He's very helpful for conceptual problems, but you're on your own for the memorization. Great Prof...he gives good life advice : )
Very good teacher but the class is extremely difficult! He is a very helpful teacher and is always willing to help if needed. However, the class was very challenging. Be prepared to study for weeks in advance for tests.
He often taught lots of material that never appeared on a test and was behind the schedule printed on the syllabus nearly the whole semester. Interesting guy, but not a good professor since the tests didn't match up with the material taught in class.
Extreamly hard tests! talks about his wife alot, but a neat guy to have as a teacher.
Not at all easy and his tests are nearly impossible. AVOID AT ALL COST!! All semester he tried to show me how smart he was and I found out that he is a smart man but is a terrible teacher. I do not reccommend
He is very knowledgable, but you need to take notes quickly in his class because he rarely slows down. Need to go to every class simply to get all information. Recommended to bring a tape recorder of some sort because majority of test questions on lecture. Also, all quiz questions he likes answers straight from the book. They help with your grade.
Great teacher who really knows his stuff and is VERY passionate about Anatomy. Definitely print out the slides ahead of time to highlight what he goes over in class. Also write down any little side notes or diagrams he gives. Rewriting notes really helped before exams. Great guy; I learned and have applied a LOT of info from his class!
Good professor, class is a little hard and he can be difficult to understand. He is a very nice guy and you learn alot I would recommend.
He's a bit difficult in the sense that he grades his tests tough, questions are not hard though. Basically know all the slides and I mean all, even if a slide just has a photo, know why he put it there. B is very reasonable grade. Only use textbook if u don't understand something, other than that it's not that necessary. Look over material b4 class
The tests are super hard, but he's a good teacher. You will learn a lot about Anatomy though. Attendance isn't kept track of and all the notes are given to you, but I would HIGHLY advise attending nonetheless.
A&P1. Fun guy, smart, made lecture interesting. But the tests are impossible, so if you take this class, plan to dedicate hours/days on end..and still not do well. He doesn't curve. Our first test the class average was a 65 and the highest grade an 85, and it stayed that way. I liked the guy but I wouldn't take him again. Avoid him if possible.
Anyonge is super smart and knows his information therefore his class is hard! Must pay attention and take good notes. Going to class is a must if you want to pass. His tests are really difficult. Smart man, hard teacher.
Gets a really bad rep, he's tough, but there's a trick to doing well: Use the notes he gives you, don't take your own. Go to EVERY class, he will fill in the blanks in the information and tell you what slides you don't need to know for the test. Doing this, I was able to bring my final grade to a B from a D at midterm.
Such a great professor. He is hilarious when he gets side tracked because it takes him so long to get back on track. He is very smart but his class is not easy. Of course, he's very helpful cause he tells you which slides you need and don't need for the test. Just study a lot even when you don't have a test the next day and you'll be fine
He is a very nice guy and very enthusiastic about anatomy. He is always there to help, and LOVES when his students come to office hours for assistance. he can be hard to understand sometimes. Tests are only over what is covered in lecture. Reading the chapter can help clarify though. The class is very hard, but so is every other anatomy class.
I LOVE Dr. Anyonge! He's hands down the best teacher I've ever had.I learned so much just from having him 1 semester. He's so sweet & extremely helpful-if there is anything you don't understand or want to go over, just go to office hours! He's a genius so be prepared to know the topics he covers really well, but if you put in the work you'll do fine!
Dr. Anyonge is a classy guy, & a classy dresser! Material is VERY challenging, making the tests very challenging. Knowing all major concepts to the smallest detail & then some, gets you a good grade. Very helpful. Always willing to take extra office hours to explain anything. Has some great stories as well! If you want to learn about A&P, take him.
He is very willing to help and offers extra office hours when a test is coming up. Also is very willing to meet one on one. The tests are based on what he goes over in lecture so you may not need the book depending on how you study
He is a very good teacher, and you learn a ton from him! However, his test are very hard. He is always willing to help you, and answer any questions. You have to work hard and study constantly to do well in his class. Learning the material is half the battle, the other half is learning how to take his tests.
He is a very good teacher, and you learn a ton from him! However, his test are VERY hard and application. He is always willing to help you and does keep track of who goes to office hours. You have to work hard and study daily to pass, along with SI. Learning the material is half the battle. EXAM IS NOT GENERAL. didnt use book at all
Only tests on lectures however, some lectures are very disjointed and incomprehensible. Memorizing certain slides and forgetting others will get you an A.
He is most likely the hardest professor for anatomy. I not only found this out from myself but also from other professors. I also felt like he was not willing to help or cared about how his students were doing in the class (whether you pass or fail). He often compared us to the previous year asking us basically why we were not as smart.
If you attend class and study a lot, you'll do fine on the tests. He teaches solely based on lectures and I never had to use the textbook, which was nice. I hardly studied for some tests and I was able to pull C's, and his quizzes are take-home so it's easy to do well on those. He was super helpful and he's super nice. I loved his class!
He is a good teacher, but his exams are HARD! So in order to pass his class, study until your brain explode! But overall, he is too hard for me that I had to drop his class.
Anyonge is a great guy but his class was probably the hardest thing I've ever (attempted) to do.
Dr. Anyonge means well but he is not a good professor. He is very set in his ways and it is not clear what he is looking for on the all short answer tests. I wouldn't recommend taking this class to anyone. I am not the type to complain about a class or a professor but this was truly a miserable experience
He's pretty funny and a good teacher and you can tell he loves what he does. His tests are pretty hard and you have to make sure you paying attention during class is extremely important. You don't need to bring the text book to class but definitely need to use it for reference and studying
His class is the hardest class I have ever been in. You have to study everyday in order to get a passing grade on his tests. He is very funny and a great guy but he is too smart for his own good. His exams are HORRIBLE. If you attend office hours it will help, however I found a tutor more helpful. They can explain it in a more understand way.
By far the hardest class I have ever taken. Incredibly tough grader but will only test on things he has said in lecture. Skipping a day of studying is basically lowering yourself down a letter grade. Also, talks about self quite a bit and how much more in shape he is than the rest of us...
Although this is without a doubt the hardest class that I have ever taken, Dr. Anyonge was definitely the most helpful professors I've had. He will take any time out of his day (he's the Department Chair might I add) to help a student. And even though his tests are often impossible, if you go to his office hours often you really benefit.
Most painful class I've ever taken. The tests were ridiculously challenging
Dr. Anyonge structures his class to be as similar as possible to medical school courses. Is it very difficult? Yes. Does it require a major time commitment? Yes. But if you spend enough time memorizing every single detail of his lecture slides, you will never be caught off guard on a test. Use flashcards. Enjoy his adorably odd and awkward nature.
Dr. Anyonge helped me adjust to first semester of my freshman year. He's an awesome teacher.
I took his class and started off really struggling. If you miss class and don't take good notes in lecture you will not do well. However, he does have a lot of office hours and study sessions you can go to to help. You just have to focus and reach out to him to succeed in his class.
Overall, he is a good but tough professor. Quizzes are take home which are nice, but the tests are very challenging. I attended every SI session this semester and hardly pulled a B-. You have to put work into this class to get the grade you want out of it; take advantage of his office hours and enjoy his precious and awkward nature along the way.
Honestly one of the best professors at Xavier. He cares so much about his students and his office hours are very helpful. I might not have gotten the A in the class that I wanted but I feel like I got a ton out of this class. Would recommend taking him, just be ready to study as with any anatomy class.
Pretty accessible outside of class for being biology chair. Talks a LOT. If you go to office hours, prepared to be lectured at instead of being in an engaging conversation. He's one of the smartest professors I've ever had but does a good job of making the material understandable. Very fast paced so keep on top of the material and you should be ok.
Test and Quiz questions are mostly critical thinking based and can be very difficult. He can be a tough grader when it comes to short answer questions. 5 exams including the final, 6 quizzes, and online textbook hw which is an easy 100. He talks very quickly and be confusing when explaining material
The class was not too difficult. The professor had went into great detail and explained everything very well. If you attend class and review your notes after every lecture class, you will be fine. Study the notes VERY thoroughly. He creates his test and quiz questions on specifics from his lecture class. I would 100% take this class again!!
I LOVED Professor Anyonge. He is very lecture heavy but not too bad. He talks kind of fast so it's difficult occasionally but he puts all his PowerPoints on Canvas which is helpful. He is very specific on what needs to be focused on for the test. He didn't teach too much out of the book but you need it to complete some homework assignments.
Professor Anyonge is an amazing professor. His class is naturally difficult, but he keeps it entertaining during class and has such an obvious passion for the subject that it is difficult not to want to love it too. His tests were difficult, but got easier a went along. I recommend him, but only if you are willing to put in significant work.
Dr. A is a solid choice if you want to take comparative anatomy. He is extremely passionate but his tests are multidimensional and very difficult. You need to understand more than one concept to get most of his questions right, nothing is simple. Hasn't taught this class in years but he knows what he's talking about and is very passionate about it.
Comparative is not an easy class. Period. But, it's important to separate the difficulty of the class from the professor. Anyonge is a great prof. He is very accessible outside of class and will work with you as long as you need to clearly understand the material. Study way ahead of time for the tests (they're your only grade) and you'll be fine.
Dr. Anyonge is a great professor. He goes over topics on the test in detail so that you will be prepared.
Dr. Anyonge is really hard to access outside of class, barely responds to emails. Class is super lecture heavy and he often gets really side-tracked in them and does not finish all the material you need to know. Tests are always worded really confusing to try to make trick questions.
Dr. Anyonge is a very hard professor. He often goes on tangents when lecturing and is very difficult to understand. His tests are nearly impossible as the wording seems as though it is not english. Often times there are several mistakes on the test making it even more difficult. Think you'll get a curve? You thought wrong!
Anyonge has charisma, but thats it. His lectures arent helpful reading off slides and then getting off track. Make mistakes on assignments and punishes students for his mistakes. Poorly scheduled class, forcing students to teach themselves mostly when his syllabus states lecture-based test. Tests designed to trick you and are overly difficult.
Anyonge is a very passionate teacher. However, his class is self-taught; his lectures were more rambling than material. Tests are very tricky and assignments such as quizzes and homework are given very late and the material from the homework doesn't match that from the lecture. Office hours are basically mandatory in order to pass.
Lectures are just reading straight off of the slides, not actual learning. This method makes you have to learn the material yourself and is not beneficial at all. His tests are extremely difficult and very particular and are pretty much nothing like the lecture slides. Test material is given out all up until the day before the test so no reviewing.
Good soup. That is the best way to describe this teacher. He is funny and will help you learn what you dont know. But be warned like good soup he can leave a metallic taste in your mouth as his test are hard and he makes some question mistakes. Overall 8/10
Anyonge is one of the worst teachers I have ever had the displeasure to learn under. Lecture based tests are based off the powerpoint. Averages are always less than 80, no curves regardless of his absence at lectures. Frequent mistakes. His inability to convey the knowledge for this ecology based class is detrimental to each student in the class.
Professor Anyonge is extremely difficult. He curves grades down, the average for tests was at most a 70, and he also told kids to give up on medical school. For the love of God do not take him for BIO162 because he will crush your dreams.
He somehow manages to speak constantly throughout the entire class which I find remarkable. As a lecture is, you just sit there and listen and take notes. There isn't a whole lot of engagement. He gives a break at some point to let people move around, and he uploads videos of every lecture's material onto Canvas. I was happy with the class!
The class is based mainly off of tests, the other assignments don't put a dent in the class grade. Averages were always F's, and tests were extremely hard.
His class may be difficult but he cares for his students. He is quick to reply to emails even during the middle of the night. He is always willing to zoom and has good availability for office hours. He rarely assigns work but studying is a must. Most of your grade is made up of tests and quizzes
This is a very fast paced class and it's hard to stay in tune with what he's talking about. His tests are extremely hard.
When I took this class, all our exams were taken outside of the classroom. Dr. Anyonge is very passionate about teaching, but sometimes move very quickly. If you ever find yourself confused, go to office hours.
Professor Anyonge teaching A&P definitely helped me learn the material, especially because it is such a hard course. He is very energetic and passionate about the material which made it fun. He understands that the material is hard and is always available to talk it out and clarify with students.
Very lecture heavy and he goes through the slides very fast. He was also very disorganized. We had a syllabus with due dates, but he would never post the HW or quizzes on time or even mention them, and then sometimes would suddenly post an online quiz in the morning and say it's due by midnight. There were always mistakes on the online work too.
A & P is a hard class, but Dr. Anyonge is a really good professor. To pass you will have to work hard. However, Anyonge is very helpful if you reach out and/or go to office hours. He is very flexible to accommodate time to work with students. He's also very charismatic and makes lectures interesting. Go to class and go to SI and you will succeed.
His lectures were a bit fast, he stresses everything that is going to be on the tests and gives out study guides and or practice questions(at least 3 of these appear on each test). He is always available outside of class, and responds quickly to emails. He is funny and genuinely cares about his students, one of the best professors to have for A&P!
I took Dr. Anyonge for online Anatomy 140 lecture, and I highly recommend him, he is a great professor and attending office hours was helpful.
Anyonge spends all of class lecturing and going through slideshows, but all of the lecture slides and lecture videos are online so you can rewatch and learn the material. There is an online textbook that is just for completion but all points matter. He is a very nice guy and tries to be funny in lecture as well. Highly recommend!
Difficult class because it is so much content. Don't expect to learn much about human anatomy. The entire class is comparing animals and it is heavy on the evolution aspect. Grade is from tests and a few quizzes but truly not bad. Anyonge is funny and easygoing! Overall cool guy who happens to teach a difficult course
Not helpful at all. Does not reply to emails. Never stays on topic or answers any questions with confidence. Would never take or recommend this professor.
Anatomy is a tough course, but with unstuck study and active engagement, you can do well. The professor is easygoing, though tests are challenging. Worth taking if you're prepared.
Very good professor and a great guy. His lectures are engaging and he's an interesting dude. Genuinely cares about his students. He is a very hard grader though. His tests are all short answer and if you miss the smallest details he takes a lot of points off. Sometimes the grading criteria and level of detail expected wasn't quite clear on tests.
As others have pointed out, he is a TOUGH grader. I had nearly identical responses to another student when comparing our tests after the fact, but got a grade 15 points lower. When i went to office hours to try and learn from my mistakes he spent most of the time explaining his complicated grading criteria rather than giving help learning content.
Anyonge is overall a very good professor. You can tell he wants you to succeed. He is a very hard grader though. It was very rare that I would get 100 on a short answer. Doesnt offer much partial credit so if your ever in doubt as to how much detail to give on tests or quizzes give as much as you can. Gives study guides though!!!!!!!!
You either liked Anyonge or hated him, but very few actually loved him. They'll tell you to go to his office hours because you can't seem to score higher than a 70 on exams even though you spent a week isolating yourself and studying, just for him to diminish every piece of hope you have. I really tried to love him, but he's just a mean person.
I love having Dr. Anyonge as a professor. He truly cares about his courses and all of his students. He is an extremely tough grader, and most of the course assignments are only exams. You need to study a lot and be well prepared. Attendance wasn't mandatory, but it is crucial for success in his courses.
Tests are difficult so make sure you study the material and use the study guides. His lectures are hard to sit through sometimes, and honestly feel pointless a lot, but if u take notes and study, you should be fine. The final for the class is difficult though.
