He does not give give notes. Also, he is very hard to approach about getting help and is vague about what you can do to improve your grade.
I enjoy Beaver's class. Seems to go over the book well and give good notes. A little weird, but funny.
this guy needs to learn how to teach
Wow just kill urslef instead of going to this class total psycho and terrible teacher.....DO NOT TAKE HIM
Very hard! Class is a waste of time.
Knows what hes talking about. tests are pretty hard-tests come from both notes AND book. paying attention in class helps cuz this guy does know his stuff!
I dropped this class, not because I am lazy or a bad student, but because he is terrible. He goes on and on about stories that have nearly zero relevance to the class or the material on the test. I think he shows up just to get paid. HE SUX POLE
class was easy, don't know what everyone else is talking about...
WOAH is this man on fire or what?! GREAT classes with great long, dry lectures. Very classy gentleman who knows his stuff! WAY TO GO, billy!
Classes are interesting because he tells all these crazy stories, but when it comes to the tests, they are incredibly hard and there isn't any homework to bring up your grade, so it all comes from the test scores....bit of advice....dont take this guy
The actual classes are awesome because he tells all of these interesting stories and relates it to sociology, but the tests are impossible even if you study for days....bit of advice...don't take this guy!
not open to opinions or anything aginst what he believes. nothing is open for discussion
Smart guy but the class didn't teach anything I didn't already know or couldn't figure out with a little commmon sense...I don't know why everyone else thought it was so difficult I thought it was an easy A
I am a straight A student and this guy is terrible, I studied for hours and still ended up with only an A- which I dont even know how I pulled that off. His test are abysmal . DO NOT TAKE THIS GUY TRUST ME!!!
Hard tests, but if you go to class, take notes, and study from notes and book, it's not as bad. You do have to do some work tho to get a good grade.
His test do not match the book or what he talks about in class
He's got a dry sense of humor. Most stupid college kids don't get it. But I think he's awesome. If you take everything really seriously or have a stick up your arse, or if you're just stupid or self involved, don't take him.
Beaver's a classy guy. Interesting lectures, but you have to study if you want to get a good grade. You all should try studying sometime. Maybe you'll learn something.
One of the best. Take NOTES, LISTEN, and just do the little reading and tiny assinments he asks and you'll get a 100% in the class. He's clearly very intelligent so he's always up for a debate or discussion. Don't be afraid to voice your opinions. He listens. The class was a good time!!
Excellent speaker and refreshing sense of humor, however his tests are not clearly based enough on the assigned readings. Why did I buy this book if it's not helping me get good grades? I'm a straight A student and now I have a B in this class. Go figure.
study
I understood more from the professor from 'Charlie Brown'.
does not teach anything thats on the tests they are impossible
Interesting class, but you have to go. If you dont go you wont pass. His tests are right from his notes, not the book, so dont buy it! He makes the class fun, and it is a great elective to take! only 3 tests and 2 papers, and not hard! Take him.
Tries to make jokes but he is not funny!
Had his american social problems class last year and it was horrible. the classes were long and boring. its not the material that is boring but his annoying voice that can either annoy u or put u to bed
this dude sucks he doesnt provide any help hes a total ****
I had the guts to actually disagree with him (gasp) and somehow my grade decended a letter.
I don't even think I have to say anything about Beaver...everyone who has taken him knows never to take him again. Horrible professor!
I liked his class
A great class, I have taken him twice before. He is a very entertaining teacher who also has great stories that make it easier to understand the class. Just take notes and pay attention to what he says and you are set with a good grade.
great class. take it
terrible teacher. do not take him. period!
Very funny guy, not nearly as hard as most people say. Go to class and he writes most notes for you and read the chapters (they are short) and you'll do fine on the tests. Easy to contact if you need to also.

I really liked his class. He's an interesting person to listen to, and he seems very intelligent. He also has a funny sense of humor and tells amusing stories (and they're actually relevant to sociology). Seriously, I would occasionally write down some of the things he said in my notes, word for word, just because they were that priceless.
Don't take this crazy prof.! He doesnt know how to teach, and the test are impossible. You must attend class or you're in major trouble. Stay clear!
Nice personality. Keeps the class interesting. But his test are nothing abouit what he talks about. Reading the book is a MUST to pass his class.
His class is difficult if you aren't good at taking tests. Material doesn't match instruction and the text is useless. He's a little eccentric as well, but full of strange stories.
Awful Professor...he cant teach structured, EASY SOCIOLOGY no-brainer material...he has to twist it and make it his own garbage...sociology is straightforward and he just made it too hard for what the subject matter was. I deserved an A not a C! I'm a straight A student! Now that says something!!!!
Subject is not hard! he just makes it hard! tests are filled with tricks... his true and false quizes are the worst! even the smallest two letter word makes them wrong! I hated it! Dont take his class!
Good teacher, funny guy. Makes class interesting.
Good guy, I'm into history and I just listened to his lectures, didn't study and I'm probably gonna get a B or C. Didn't even buy the book, and I'm taking him next semester.
He wasn't too bad. He had a dry sense of humor, which I liked. His tests are all MC and T/F. There is little room for error, but I think most people gots B's.
really nice. great sense of humor. BUT, the tests are IMPOSSIBLE....i am an A student and i have a C in there right now. He is very tricky on his tests, so watch out!
Not a good teacher to take if you want a high GPA, but knows stuff. Tests are garbage.
Good teacher, good class, but you have to work
Took him for American Social Problems after his Intro to Soc and it was basically the same class only a little more in depth. Tests are worded oddly and are tricky. Just pay attention and study the theories and you'll be set.
Horrible teacher! Avoid if you can. Embarrasses student when they come in late and doesn't help you catch up on work if you miss. He summarizes the book and gives the WORST tests. They are all true and false and he tricks you. Good Luck if you have him!
he is a very very very good teacher. you will enjoy his class, and he will keep you up. Class is easy if you study for the test (which is not hard at all).
If you don't try in college or you don't want to learn anything, don't take him. He is very interesting (even if you aren't interested in soci) and he teaches you a lot. I just paid attention in class and got an A.
Very interesting class...pay attention! He has a lot of good stories. But the tests are hard, YOU HAVE TO STUDY if you want a good grade. Take notes and use the book and your good.
Great class
he is a hard professor, and his test are hard. take good notes, and read the book!! also he has old test in the library make sure you study those they can really help.
Alright guy, but his lectures are not on the test, its all from the book
Says his quizzes/tests come from the notes but not a lot do. Pay attention and pace yourself for reading
I thought the class was pretty good. Just study some.
He has many interesting stories and lectures, and he's kinda funny. I actually liked going to class. However, his tests are tricky. You have to read the book and study to get an A. If you pay attention in class and study your notes like 5 minutes for a test, you should get a B or C.
its simple. If you want a bad grade, take this guy. I have a solid GPA, and this guy didnt help it. STAY AWAY!
Really good class if you want to learn something.
This class is easy as long as you pay attention to him. He allows you to use his past tests to study from. If you fail it means you should probably just drop out of college.
He goes off-topic very often, and seems to enjoy talking about prostitution a lot regardless of what class he teaches. He said notes will be used for the exam, but they're never relevant. You'll have to read from the book. If you want to get a hard class, take this guy. If you want an easy A, stay away from William Beaver at all costs.
If you actually pay attention and take time to study notes AND the book for this class, you'll be fine. He's only hard if you don't try. He's very interesting and knows a lot about his subject.
One of the most enjoyable classes ever. Had a few debates, which were not fun, but he is one of the best professors I've had. Take notes in his class, because that is what is found on the test. His quizzes are true/false and his tests are multiple choice, but they are both very difficult. Study your notes!
Nice guy, rambles in class, uses book sometimes, you could get by with just borrowing the book when he says. TAKE NOTES. quizzes are all 20 questions T & F. Tests aren't too bad. 50 questions multiple choice. read from the book before the test/quiz
Don't sit in the front or he'll be all over you. Personally I didn't think he was as bad as some people say he is.
Kind of rude and shovanistic. Knows a lot about the subject but doesnt egage in discussions. Discussion question will be asked, answer will be given, answer will be ignored. Very black and white that way. Tests are way tough even if you study. His crime class WILL bring your GPA down. I wouldnt recommend.
I enjoyed professor Beaver. He's a nice guy and has a lot of knowledge on the topic. The tests can be a little bit hard though. He can be a little strange in class but he's also really nice.
Interesting class. Teacher was well informed. Study for tests.
Class was interesting. I was able to pay attention everyday. Beaver is nice and not boring but his tests are pretty hard. I would recommend him if his tests were not so hard but because they are, I would try to take another teacher for Sociology if you want a good grade.
Good teacher. Never hard to pay attention- keeps it interesting and tells jokes. Only had three quizzes and two exams. Got to study hard for both, but as long as you put some time into looking over notes, you'll get a great grade. If you don't remember well at all, avoid. Otherwise, take him.
He gives you all the information you need to know, but you still have to read the book. Gives very hard tests, but quizzes are easy. Also, he says "you follow me" after every sentence and has some good jokes.
A great teacher. He is very experienced in his field. He has all the notes on the board before class. During class he tells stories relevant to the information. The stories really stick and become useful on the test. The tests were somewhat difficult. Def a teacher that cares about his students.
He's a very helpful teacher. Puts in his two cents' worth, and has a lot of good personal experience to help make some points clear. Tests and quizzes weren't bad. He even has older versions in the library for you to study from. Definitely recommend!
the worst ever
Good class and interesting discussions but you have to study for the tests.
Some topics he discussed were interesting; but there seemed to be a lack of curriculum and he didn't seem to be engaged with the class. A lot of reading, but little homework. The one somewhat helpful thing he provides is an old test answer keys that are available in the library.
Very good lecturer, however I didn't learn all too much because of the lack of home work and projects. Sociology can be one of the most involved classes there is so I was somewhat disapointed
Thought the class was pretty good. The teacher was interesting and not boring. Tests are sort of hard but not that bad.
He makes up his own quiz and test questions and they are the most indirect and broad questions you'll ever experience. 3 T/F quizzes and 3 exams. Basically got C's on all the quizzes (I'm not a C student) and barely got B's on the exams. Interesting class, but painful quizzes and exams.
Professor Beaver is an amazing professor. His lectures are super intriguing and easy to follow. His tests are a little hard, but as long as you read from the book and study your notes, you should be fine. I would absolutely take him again.
he is a very good lecturer but his tests are really hard.
Man, this guy is wild... He gets in your personal business, I kinda like it though. His lectures are nice, kinda boring. He knows A LOT of people who do drugs, but that's okay. His test and quiz questions are very broad and no matter what you study, you are not very prepared. His quizzes in the library aren't very similar either. idk how to feel..
He is a good teacher. Gives a lot of good examples
The class was really good . He gives good examples. Just study for the tests.
Class was not very engaging and not to mention he's a miserable person. I studied my notes and read the chapters but his tests and quizzes did not match up with what we were taught. I went to his office hours with him not being very helpful and I mean I wasn't even in the door for a minute. I recommend taking a different professor for sociology.
Thought the class was decent. He kept things interesting for the most part, and got you thinking about the topic being discussed, although he did go off on tangents once in a while
I took Dr. Beaver for Sociology in Sport. His tests are relatively easy. He writes all the notes on the whiteboard before class starts. His handwriting is terrible but everything he writes & talks about is on the test. No study guides but he will give you 4 questions & pick one to be an essay on the test. Doing hw assignments + studying easy A
He is one of those professors you other like or hate. Lectures are very good. 3rd class with him . You have to take additional notes, (not just what he writes on the board). Super intelligent on a number of subjects. If you like sports & history this was a great class. Just pay attention. He will not let you use your computer in his classes.
Professor Beaver gives great lectures and keeps class interesting with surveys, videos, and assignments. Only thing is that he never puts anything online, so make sure you pay attention to what he assigns in class. Exams are straightforward as long as you study.
