This teacher is awesome! Bow ties everyday. The class is easy, but hard to attend at 8:30 in the morning. Class is graded on just a few papers that are easy to get B's or higher on each one.
He's a really nice teacher. Bowties everyday as already stated. Grades on around 4 papers and reading quizes. He's strict about attendance and takes attendance at the beginning of every class. Just show up to class and you'll do fine. Lesson learned.
Very helpful! You read a lot out of your textbook, but the stories and essays are very interesting. Great guy, enjoys teaching! I liked his class so much that I am taking him for 1102! I highly recommend him.
Absolutely LOVED him. BEST teacher i've had so far. He's really helpful. FUNNY. Never a dull moment in the class, always kept my attention. Great class discussions. You will use the book ALOT but it has great stories, so i enjoyed. Im DEFINITELY taking him for English 1102.
Very easy class. A's on papers without too much work. Textbook used everyday.
Great professor. The class was always interesting. The book is used everyday for reading essays and he randomly gives 1 to 2 question quizzes about the reading. 4 papers. He is a helpful professor. I wouldn't mind taking one of his classes again.
Dr.Belford has been the best English professor I have ever had in my life. He encouraged me to try new things in literature, and to explore academic opportunities that I never thought I was capable to accomplish. I never had an interest in literature until I took ENG1101 and ENG1102 with Dr.Belford. He is the best...
The man has go sense for fashion. Dresses like a professor 3 times his age. Nice guy though. Good as any other. And so HOT HOT HOT!
Very interesting. Breaks up the mundane lessons with funny stories and effective examples. One of my favorite lit teachers.
Awesome teacher! He looks like Rick Moranis, which I find inexplicably cool. He's eloquent in speech and when he talks i feel like I'm being read to. He's clear with what he wants from his students and is humorous enough to keep me away the entire class XD I love the guy and highly recommend his class for anyone in need of a good comp. lesson!
Ive dropped 3 English Classes before taking his. He keeps lecture interesting and easy to follow. Actually my favorite professor so far! Definitely suggest taking him at least once!
Such a great teacher!!!
Such a great professor! There are 4 essays assignment, and oral presentation, and a couple of pop quizzes on the essays read in the book. The book is use frequently, he gives you a reading assignment every class. The pop quizzes given are usually easy, and make sure you pay attention to vocab in the book because there are usually on the quiz.
If you want a laid back kinda professor then DO NOT TAKE HIM! He's pretty strict and a hard grader! Don't like this class!!!
He is a tough essay grader. Class is super boring all we do is read stories and talk about them in class. You also have to do a poem recitation at the end of the semester. & He isn't all that hot he looks like Rj berger
I'm currently taking his summer class and so far it's been okay. You MUST read the pages assigned because he gives pop quizzes occasionally, but they're easy. Three essays on the readings and a poem recitation at the end. Seems simple enough. He's a stickler when it comes to vocabulary, but isn't that bad. Overall it's alright. Boring at times.
He is a great teacher. He is very passionate about the subject and genuinly cares about his students. 3 essays, 1 research paper, and 1 oral presentation. Fair grader. Must at least skim the reading for pop quizzes, generally 2 questions and a bonus. He resembles RJ Berger.
Belford is the best instructor for English. He has a passion for composition, and it shows in his teaching. Lectures are often not boring(due to the fact he has a sense of humor), and it is easy to chime in your thoughts and ideas. He makes the four essays you need to write very clear, and the guidelines to each are on the syllabus. Take him!
Was not bad, no test, 4 essays and an oral. Quiz after each weekly read. Gives the same grade in all your essays.
He really does wear bow ties every day. He always comes in EXACTLY when it's time for class to start. Never early! He's got an odd sense of humor but I found him rather interesting. The class is seriously easy. Definitely read!! Usually the questions he asks are on the first couple of pages of the reading. Rarely did class ever last the whole allotted time. I'm taking him again next semester. Best English teacher, seriously!!
He is a great professor! I was not too confident about my english skills but after taking his class I have a new interest in the subject! Has a good sense of humor...For me class never got boring.. I am taking him again for ENGL 1102! Again a great class! :D
I absolutely adore Dr.Belford! He is interested in seeing his students succeed as long as you put forth effort. His in class lectures are usually interesting and engaging. Take him if you can! Only 3-4 papers which aren't hard. No tests. Vocab quizzes.
Really enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the subject matter. Only four papers, an oral presentation and no exam. Gives really helpful feedback on essays also. Just read the assigned reading and actually do the papers and you'll do fine.
Dr Belford is an awesome professor! He has an interesting humor and is very intellectual. Our class loved to mess with him about his greeting and he loved it! He doesn't give out grades. You have to work for it. When I made my first A, I literally jumped up and down. He gives surprise quizzes and loves vocabulary. If you read, you're golden.
Dr. Belford was a great teacher. He was funny and really seemed to care.
First off, he is a hilarious professor! He jokes around a lot, and is very open about things. We discussed his rate my professor page, and we came to the conclusion of giving him a chili pepper for his wife. Overall, he is a great professor, he is lenient on essays, but he will never hand out A's unless it deserves it. Definitely recommend.
One of my favorite teachers I have ever had! He is extremely willing to help, so take advantage of that! Read the assigned readings because he loves giving pop quizzes. He very rarely hands out A's. You definitely have to put forth the effort in this class, but if you work hard you'll be fine! Definitely recommend him!
Pretty quirky and funny guy. Make sure you take that "intuitive leap" he talks about because that's what gets you an A on your essays. He told me he was going to nominate me for an award on one of them but I told him I bsed it at the last minute and I guess he had second thoughts lol. Also read all the short stories because he quizzes you on them.
William is very blunt, can come off rude sometimes but he's over all a nice person. Gives quizzes over readings. Grades papers strictly. He appreciates you participating in the in-class discussions. Read the material and have something to say in class. He shows up late sometimes. Not a stickler about tardies. Over all he's ok. Not my first choice.
He is a good teacher and the discussions can be interesting when the class is participating.
Dr. Belford is really funny. Be prepared to join in on the discussions and always do your homework. Don't skip class. Don't let him see or hear a cell phone. Don't be late. He's been a really fun teacher, and his teaching style has caused the entire class to become friends. I've never had a class that I enjoyed more than this one.
I took Dr. Belford for Creative Writing, and he is a good professor, but his class is very time consuming. There are multiple assignments due every single day of class. Do not take him unless you are passionate about the subject. The final is a revision of a 6 - 12 pg. short story and two poems, which are all critiqued openly in class.
He is a nice and funny guy, but his lectures are long-winded. Only four essays for the entire semester. Tough grader, but if you need help it is there. Buy the textbook. Attendance is mandatory. Come to class and put a little effort in the essay and you will pass the class. Although I wouldn't take him for anything else...
The lectures are interesting, but are better when the class participates. If I had to redo my first semester, I would take him again.
One of the highlights from my freshman year, he was really entertaining as a teacher, but the essays were more than something you could do the night before. If you did, your grade definitely showed it.
He's a quirky and silly guy, but you need to have a thick skin when critiques come around. The workshop and critique half of the semester is tough and tedious sometimes, but it's very valuable if you want to be a great writer.
Belford is by far the best English professor I have ever had, he wants you to take an interest in the class and in the reading. He is very nice and as long as you do the assigned reading and stay on top of the writing assignments you won't have a problem in his class.
Most intelligent person I have ever met. Uses words the way mathematicians use numbers. Very deliberate speaker and expects the same from your writing. Funny, passionate for English, and will make you a better writer if you heed his suggestions. Very liberal with a red pen, but your skills will markedly improve. Wish I could take again!!
I absolutely loved Dr. Belford!!! He's one of he best professors I've had. He makes his class so easy for someone like me who hates English! I loved his class. He made it simple and gave you helpful feedback on his papers!!!! I recommend!
He loves participation. if you never participate in the everyday lecture until the end of class then that definitely will have a toll on your grade. Very hard grader. He critiques every little thing in your paper. Essay topics are really tough.
I absolutely adored Dr. Belford. Worked so hard in this class, but what I gained from it was worth the work. He loves class participation so be sure and speak up. Tough grader on essays, but he loves students who want to get better so go to office hours and try to improve! So smart and so genuine. I couldn't speak highly enough of him. LOVED!!!!
Belford was fantastic, loved his teaching style. I don't mind analyzing because of him, hes super sweet. Just PARTICIPATE. He's very accessible and isn't too hard of a grader, definitely utilize the writing center though to better your paper if you cant see him. He really cares about what he does and he wants you to share that energy.
We have less than half of the class left and haven't had a single grade! He is a nice guy and you can tell he loves his job. Pretty much every class is him talking about the readings (READ them!) make sure you make a comment at least once a week or even come by his office hours and ask his opinion on your paper(s). We write 3 papers.
Dr. Belford is very passionate about what he teaches! He is a great teacher, but he is very lecture-heavy. We only had 3 essays, but essays are already tough for me, so that was the only "tough" thing about this class. He also loves participation!
He makes you work for it. Write a critique for every student's work and every student has to write 2 poems and a short story. I've never written anything creative before so it was nice to be able to with good feedback. And participate in discussion. It's easy to forget and fade into the background, which is probably why I got a B.
I loved Dr. Belford! He's a great teacher and an inspiration to all of his students. Participation in his class really matters, he expects people to answer questions and show up on time every class period. The essays aren't too bad but they are graded heavily since there aren't any tests.
He is extremely long winded. Only assigns 3 papers but the prompts are a little indirect. Takes forever to provide grades for your work. He is extremely passionate about literature especially poetry. Cancels class a lot but expects you to be present to pass.
Belford is not a great professor. For one, he only cares about his family. He encourages class participation but will shoot you down if you make a mistake. Oh and also do not ask questions about essay prompts or else he will shut you down immediately. Just go to the writing center, carefully proofread your essays, and you will be fine,
Dr. Belford is very lecture heavy and he takes up the whole time with unnecessary and unrelated topics that aren't very helpful to your assignments. The entire class has consisted of ONLY TWO papers -- we have 3-4 weeks left in the semester and still don't have our grade for our first paper. This was turned in on Sept. 24. Do not recommend taking.
Dr. Belford was an amazing prof. He really seemed to know what he was teaching which made it that much more enjoyable. The structure of his class is kind of weird though, we would listen to him in class about stuff that did not directly relate to our assignments, that took me a while to understand.
Good professor, kinda long winded. Only 2 major essays but lots of prep work for them via peer review. Participation is 30% of the grade. Reading were easy, so as long as your prepared this is an easy A.
He knows his literature and is a good professor except when it comes to giving clear feedback on essays and even by going to his office hour it was hard to understand what he wanted me to change about my essays. It got better over the semester but it was never easy. Also, you need the textbook for this class and must expect to be reading a lot.
PARTICIPATION MATTERS!! Belford spends a lot of his lecture talking, but he likes participation. He only graded by 2 essays, each worth 35%, and participation worth 30%. As long as your participate, do the reading before class, and actually try, you will do well, and he'll grade your essays easier. Class can be boring sometimes, but still go.
Belford gives long winded lectures that may not relate to the topic at hand. Grades everything at the very end of the semester. Nice person, kinda boring class.
Lectures do not relate to the assignments half of the time, and Belford tends to ramble. Dr. Belford also waits until the last minute to grade everything. Two weeks left into the semester and not a single thing is graded.
It is the end of the semester and Dr Belford has not graded a single thing. It makes it difficult to improve your writing/grade when you do not know how you have been doing on the previous essays.
This class wasn't terrible just a little unpredictable. The syllabus didn't always match the classwork so I would just say talk to him and only do what he specifically tells you to do. You will have two essays the entire class but you turn in the essays bit by bit and a lot of reading.
You will have no idea if you are passing or failing until the semester is over. Only grade received was the final grade, none of the assignments. Most of the lectures were completely irrelevant to the content of the assignments, and 90% of the assigned readings were too. He insists that you email him to get his attention, but doesn't read them.
He only graded 1 assignment out of the 20 other submitted assignments. Assignments that were pressed upon us, were very important (clearly not). His lectures were him rambling about unrelated topics and never related to the assignments EVER. Was never available in person and rather encouraged us to email him, which even when I did never responded.
Want to know your grade? Lol nope. Good prof but I didn't know my grade until like 4 days after the class completely ended. Not helpful. Gave essay one feedback on how to improve way after the class was over, not in time for essay two. Also bros folio is impossible to navigate. Deadlines at random times throughout the day and vague instructions .
This was my second time taking an online course, and I don't think I'll take one again. Professor Belford did not grade anything until we emailed him shortly before our second paper and asked him to, and even still he has not graded everything yet and nothing since then.
He was a good professor. His class was easy enough no tests or quizzes we wrote 2 papers. He offers easy extra credit. The only issue is that he doesn't give feedback on your essays until the very end and he doesn't put in grades until the very end. Overall he is funny and good at what he does. You can tell he loves teaching.
Super easy. Not many assignments and very lenient on discussion posts. Only 2 essays- both one page. Took a while to get feedback back but overall not hard at all.
The class material is easy, just a bunch of reading and writing a few essays. The choice of books is boring though. Don't expect to get a reply from this guy though. Sent him numerous emails over the semester and he replied to one out of five.
he drove me literally insane. every class was a new hour and 15 minute long lecture that consisted of him rambling on with things that had nothing to do with assignments. we only had 3 essays (each one had several drafts due) so the workload was relatively easy. his attendance policy is strict and he expects you there or else he'll fail you
Dope prof great guy
Hey this guy is hilarious take his class
Just be ready for a real collage class this is graded by the knowledge you gain over the whole semester
This is a real college course, expect to learn then be tested at the end of the semester on everything. No hand holding
Show up it matters, welcome to college
His lectures are horrible they have absolutely nothing to do with what the assignments are. Only 3 papers all semester. I still have no idea what the point of the lectures were for. We don't even talk about the assignments. I almost fell asleep every lecture. He is very boring & rambles on the syllabus and in the lectures, and the paper prompts.
Phenomenal professor who is very passionate about the material he teaches. Be prepared to read. Not too difficult if you just do what you're supposed to do.
Prof Belford is very passionate and a great teacher. The only thing is that he doesn't put in grades or give feedback until the end of the semester. Class is pretty easy as long as you show up and complete the assignments on time. Would def recommend.
Very nice professor, very understanding.
Dr. Belford's class is easy to pass and be in. If you do the reading assigned on the syllabus and participate in class (it doesn't have to be a lot) and turn in your essays with noticeable effort, you will do well. I did space out during the lectures sometimes, but for the most part they were informative and relevant.
English is Not my best subject but the layout of the Class only being Essays helped me a lot. He isn't a hard grader at all and I do think he will grade you better if you participate a lot. However He is holds all grades until the very last minute so you will not even know your grade until after the class ends.
Belford was pretty amazing this semester! He provides good feedback on all essays and understands the situations we are going through. I will say that attendance is mandatory and GRADED! So show up! He doesn't grade anything until grades are due. You have 2 "big" essays that are truly easy and the rest is all participation. Some discussion boards.
Great professor.
Belford's class this semester was different for me compared to the other students. It was very lecture heavy (which is normal) but everything seemed to be lacking. He never really went over our essays (I remember one time but that's it) He isn't a bad teacher per say but he isn't the best teacher.
Not a bad professor but some of the things we read didn't help with essays / count towards grades
Professor Belford is one of the best professors I have ever had. You can tell he loves English and what he teaches. The class itself is not stressful at all. A lot of readings and two major essays. The only downside is that he will talk about things that are not relevant to the class. Other than that, I 100% take the class again! Take his class!
Grade is from two essays, doesn't even post the first grade until the end of the semester(also no comments). A lot of readings that he lectures ab, but only 2 split off to the essays, so most were pointless bc it was just basic analysis. Does very little lecture ab writing, so the essays were hard to revise since it's all prior exp + peer review.
2 essays make up your entire grade pretty much and 30% of your grade is participation. He has very clear grading criteria so it makes it easy to get the grade you want. But, downside is he doesn't grade anything until the very last minute. I have still not received my grade. But, nevertheless he was very entertaining and I enjoyed his class.
Dr. Belford was a great professor in my opinion. He's very passionate about English and he's thoughtful in his lectures. Only 2 main essays and some extra discussion posts. He's understanding of life circumstances and not a tough grader!
