This is a very helpful very understanding professor. He really wants to help you succeed and understand the material and he goes out on a limb for his students. Excellent lectures!
Pretty boring, everything learned in high school history...not much HW...8 page research paper...tests are easy, just study notes.
GOOD TEACHER, GETS BORING, EASY WORK, FAIR GRADING
Great class. He made a lot of connections between history and current events that got the class thinking.
he's super!!! knows the materials well and is really helpful. encourage different opinions in class. exams are fair, he grades essays generously
I've taken 2 other history classes here, but Mr. Z is by far my favorite! He is very clear about the subject and he tries to make it enjoyable. If you pay attention at all in class you'll do well on the tests. He has very little HW and the quizes are easy. Highly Recommend!!
he is good,if u write well he gives good grade, not much hw,u don't have to study 4 the inclass quizes.noteguides and notes are important.
Prof. Ziegenhorn is a fantastic teacher who cares a great deal about his students and does all he can to help them succeed. If you have an interest in history, you should certainly take his class.
He is a great teacher! very helpful and appreciates all opinions. tests are not hard if you study, he grades easily on essays. concentrate in class and u will be fine.
Funny, really knows his history and teaches it in an easy way to understand! Great teacher.
Mr.Z is a very good looking man which made learning history, which is not a fave subject of mine, much more interesting =) there are easy tests, and he grades fair (u always kno exactly wuts expected and how much to write, etc), one research paper but he offers plenty of help. HIGHLY RECCOMENDED!
A great teacher. Just the book was a little difficult to really learn from, since it wasn't an actual textbook.
He is a wonderful teacher, easygoing and nice. Teaching is clear and the quizzes are fair. I would absolutely take him again.
Too many Work for this class. There's always online Assignments and discussions, 6quizzes, Midterm, 11pages Research paperand Final. Too much works, i don't even have time for all my other class.
I drop his class because of that much work!! Because i don't even have time for my other classes. Don't take his class!!
Great professor. Knows the subject, and always relates lectures to current events/issues. I have learned a lot in the course. Yes, there is a lot of work, but he grades generously, so it's nothing to worry about. You will need to put in some effort, but you will learn a lot, so it is worth it. Accessible and helpful too- he wants you to succeed.
Take him if you want to learn History. Very dedicated and nice instructor. I'm an International student and I found his class very helpful to me. There are many assigements, but jsut show your point, you will get full credit. Thus if you study, you will definitely get an A.
A lot of small hws & a little quiz/week (sometimes a test) - open book & have generous time limits. They're just his way of marking if you're putting any effort into the class. If you put effort in, you get more than just the grade - you learn history from a wonderful teacher that links the past with present in an effective teaching style.
Mr. Zeigenhorn is good looking, and dresses really well! Besides that, he's a nice guy. His quizzes are very detailed, and his tests have one part essay in them, which saved me! He also had test preps online and that helped! He takes attendance twice during class. I found myself falling asleep a few times (but I also took his course at 8AM)!
Great class to take for those who are bad test takers. Many points available through other assignments besides tests. Also several points of possible extra credit. Really willing to help students succeed. Lectures are pretty interesting. I would definitely recommend this teacher. I took with Pierce and got a D but recieved a B- in this class.
Good class, really didnt like the book but I liked the class, it was a pretty small one but he was pretty helpful if you had problems or questions
Great class, great teacher. Take him, take him, take him. Very helpful, one midterm, one paper, and a final with some simple assignments.
For a history class, this turned out to be much more interesting than I expected. I took the online class and it was enjoyable and I learned a few things. Instructor is very knowledgeable and has pretty intelligent lectures. Grading is not all that hard either and you just have to keep up the weekly discussions and readings and you'll do fine.
I haven't taken history in years and was never that interested in it. Mr. Zeigenhorn is very organized and enthusiastic about what he's teaching which makes learning that much better. Just do the work and you'll be good. Plus he's one fiiiine older man and I love the suits...every single day!
I am a full time student - I am used to doing a lot of work - I am an "A" student - Mr. Ziegenhorn Online class kicked my *SS. Way too much homework - on average: 2 chapters, 3 forum discussions, 1 page essay assignment. On a bad day throw in a quiz, test, or 2 or 3 other chapters from the 2nd book. TOO MUCH!
He is passionate and enthuisastic about material, and proactive above and beyond to work with studens. Book is a bit of a bore, but if you read sections required, quizzes are super easy. Pretty much straightforward, do required reading, pay attention, you'll know what to expect for grade. Provides extra credit opportunity as well.
He is one of the most boring, difficult, and unclear teachers I have ever taken. I attempted to take his class twice and I ended up dropping it both times. The only way I even passed his class the third time was because I took it online and I had the textbook right in front of me.Take anyone else besides him or if you must take him, do it online.
You know I've never written on here before but I had too when I noticed the person below me bashing his name. Yes, This class is difficult when it comes to the research paper, but he gives it to you when the quarter starts so it's your responsibility to start it. the midterm was fairly easy if you really pay attention to the lectures so is the fina
. Yes, the man talks a lot but he's such a good hearted person, caring, really knows and loves history. Always has a smile. He really is a excellent teacher and would recommend him to anyone. you do have online assignments that take a while but they are so interesting that I loved it. By the way I HATED history before this class. In the beginning I
One of the Hardest teachers at Foothill . I took english 1A,1B,1C,2A,2B take all of those classes combined and i maybe wrote what i had to write in one Quarter for him. His demands for papers are so extreme that I have had to constantly write, the day I got the Prompt i felt like i was behind, and I am usually a Last Minute Person. SO HARD, SKIP
A very good teacher with passion to teach his students. There are quite an amount of readings to do, but the quiz, tests and exams are not too difficult. You will learn a lot from this class. Thank you, Mr Ziegenhorn!
Mr. Z is the best History teacher I've ever had. His teaching style is clear and easy to understand. He uses great books(not textbooks) to teach his class, but he gives a lot of readings and essays. I absolutely loved his class and definitely recomend to take him for US History. Very nice and helpful guy. Loves his subject.
He is one of the best teachers at foothill. Do take him.He lets you re-do ur papers even if you are missing a point or two and his extra-credit is awesome. Impossible to fail the class. Love him.
Accesible, clear lecturer, easy to talk to. Not much work, except 4 essays or so,they're easy if you read & have good notes.+ 8 page research paper. All essays you u can resubmit with corrections for more points! you do have to read the chapters, but they are explained in detail by him in class lectures, so if you miss a chapter it won't hurt.best prof
Mr. Z is a really good professor. His lectures are pretty clear and he is easy to approach. You have to read about two chapters a week so make sure you don't get behind. 3 essays 2 quizzes 1 research project. There is a lot of work but it's not a very difficult class.
He's a very polite, genuine man. He wants the best for all of his students. If you don't like him or his teaching technique, you're not a college student. If you fail his class, you probably deserve it.
He's amazing and very handsome. HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM!
Best history class i've ever taken. He is a great teacher and makes history very interesting. He really knows what he is talking about and is very helpful. Do the reading and reading guides and you will be fine. HIGHLY RECCOMMEND
I took his online class. His lectures/modules were interesting and very informative. He assigns a research paper, but gives you plenty of time to work on it and he's very helpful so you can get the best grade possible out of it. Just keep up with the reading and you'll do fine. I definitely recommend him!
First off let me say, I hate history classes. However, Prof. Z made it different. I was actually interested here and there. I will admit I did not like to sit through lecture. But if you can attend and make in through lecture you will do fine. His reading quizzes are just a grade booster. And the project I enjoyed because I was actually doing
something that was going to be used by someone else for their own research. I thought it was pretty cool. I passed with a C. However, if I had studied a little bit more for the final I probably could have got a B. Also, the 'textbooks' are really just books about history like chapter books. So that isn't that bad.
Hands down one of the best teachers at Foothill!
The most textbook reading I have seen assigned at the community college level, 2-4 long chapters a week, a min. of 2 discussion posts a week, a 6-8 page research paper (on a topic not covered in class), timed midterm. There has to be less time consuming History classes if this is not your major. Seems to grade easy though.
Ziegenhorn is hard, lots of reading which second language students may find difficulities. Doesn't give you full credit even though you do the work (ALTHOUGH he tells you "I will give you grade because you do the work and spend time", ya he gives grade but only 1/2 of full point) Quizs are also hard. Not recommend to foreign students.
Don't look are the "good recommendations" in here cause' u'll regret (I AM REGRET!!) Not a easy grader, lots of reading, give only 1/2 of full point on the writing assignment. He said he give grades because you do the work, but actually is not. 50 students, 1/2 drop and only 13 of the remaining PASS. Think carefully because you choose the him
It is a tough class! He is not an easy grader and will not pass you just because. There is a lot of reading and he lectures the entire class, but you will learn an incredible amount of information. This class is recomended for students who are really interested in majoring in history.
Prof. Z is perhaps one of the best instructors at Foothill. While the workload of his course is somewhat robust; it is doable and fair. I found his person to be very knowledgeable and completely approachable (I took the online version of his course and he still was willing to spend copious amounts of time with me in person).
Took his course online and what made the class so challenging was how reading intensive it was. But if you stay on top of the reading, the assignments are not that bad. He's easy to approach and talk to and he's very smart and thoughtful. I wouldn't recommend taking this class if your schedule is looking busy and other courses look difficult.
I have always had an easy time with history and rather enjoyed them. Not this class, I found lectures very boring. I found many of the assingments to be a waste of time, and papers were graded unusually low. I work and would occasionaly find an email sent that evening saying there was something to be read for class the next morning.
I found his lectures clear and engaging, liked his choices for source materials, and thought the class only got more interesting throughout the quarter. NOT EASY. The paper was huge, and his tests are no joke. TONS of reading, at least two books plus online. LOTS of original research for the paper. Fair grader. I feel like my brain grew three sizes
Best teacher in the UNIVERSE!!!! He is polite, dressed to impress, helpful, and very kind. As long as you pay attention...You will pass his class. He is very FAIR!!!!!
If you pay attention, do the reading and do the work, you will get a good grade. I enjoyed the class. The Prof. is willing to help, is friendly and approachable.
Take him! He is a great professor. His lectures are interesting and everything is online. Part of his lectures are documentaries that are very helpful to understand the course material. If you know the weekly course content, you should do great. There are also extra credits available. He is really one of the best instructors that I have ever had.
Great teacher, would recommend. Only difficult thing about this class is staying caught up with the reading, but otherwise, a great professor with a great grading criteria. I would take again if I needed another history class.
If you need to take a history class, TAKE ONE WITH HIM! History is one of those subjects I was never interested in but his textbooks make it more bearable, his lectures are not to miss, and he's a flexible guy when it comes to exams being open noteopen book! I have dropped and failed history classes in the past, but this one saved me.
Honestly, great and kind professor. He is always nice and approachable, his lectures are interesting with a proper touch of humor, readings are reasonable for a history class. Stick to the calendar and you'll be fine. Tests are easy and open book but read chapters first and take notes! Easy to get an A if you work. Highly recommended Professor.
Seems to be very passionate about history. He'll assign lots of reading but he also gives you study guides and his test questions are pulled straight out from the study guide, so if you do it you'll be more than prepared for the test. Some of our test were take home test and he also allowed you to use your book and notes during the test!
I loved Professor Ziegenhorn! He was very helpful and really wanted us to do well in class. If I could have him as my teacher for every class, I'd be set for life. I was definitely unsure at first but he made the class interesting and fun!
He is one of the nicest professors at Foothill, he wants all of his students to succeed. He assaigns a LOT of reading and gives a study guide to follow, but all quizes, midterm, and final are open note! The reading was boring to me, but I would take him again because he was kind and a nice person.
Ziegenhorn really cares about his students and is more than happy to help students do well in his class. He offers a lot of accommodations and is easily accessible outside of class. His lectures are more so going over confusing concepts from the reading. All his quizzes are open note!
Easy and clear online class! He's very helpful too and gives good feedback and is willing to work w/you more if you want to. Chill grader too. The work is very reasonable and not hard, and the pace is very good, only one key assignment per week usually. Learned a lot at the same time. Highly recommend! (note that in class it might be different)
midterm included essay questions (5paragraphs for each answer, total 4 questions, IN 2 HOURS????) all the work is due tuesday nights before 11pm. read. read. read. take notes from online textbook, weekly quiz is 10 questions with 30min limit. dont take it if you have busy schedule and hectic work life. not worth it.
He's overall a good teacher! Very understanding!! I personally wouldn't take it again just because I hate history hahaha. His lectures can get kind of boring but some of the things he says are on the quizzes/final. He lets you use our notes for the exams/quizzes! But with those notes you have a lot of reading to do.
Ziegenhorn is a fantastic teacher. He is very down to earth so easy to talk to. I had not taken a US History class in a while and he was amazing! I love how engaging his class is. He does not have big test instead he divides them into quizzes which are very easy. A plus is that he is quite handsome.
Professor Ziegenhorn will lecture for the whole two hours with a 10 min break. Will often get caught talking about other subjects when explaining the main point to the class. Would not recommend.
I really enjoyed this course and this professor. You can use your notes on the test, so make sure to keep up with them throughout the quarter because without good notes, it's hard to do well on the exams. I highly recommend this course to anyone who struggles with history or memorization and needs a history class to fulfill university requirements.
Prof. Z's class was fairly easy because he lets you use notes on all quizzes and essay tests. He tends to go off topic and be sure to attend class because his in-class lectures contains slightly different material than what he posts online but if you read the book and articles, you should do fine. He does assign quite an amount of essays so beware!
Love Professor Ziegenhorn! His classes are straightforward and his grading criteria is clear. He does assign a lot of reading, but most of the time you'll be able to learn what you need to know from his lectures. Very lecture heavy, no group work, not too many assignments. Don't procrastinate on the final project! It isn't hard if you start early!
Took history 10 which was about the history of California I loved him made the course easy and understandable. Textbook was cheap also you do have to read before each class to stay on top of the material but he gives you a reading guide to follow with your reading. He was less about coursework and more about learning the material and passing.
Bill is dope, he responds to emails and questions within a few hours and is always helpful. If you have a problem he'll usually work something out with you or for you. If he sees passion in your papers and your posts on canvas he'll give you a higher grade which is nice.
Instead of a textbook, you subscribe to Globalyceum and it costs $40?? So you save money! Make sure to keep up with the readings, it's not a lot and they're easy to understand. His feedback goes beyond asking for improvements---he suggests stuff to help you learn more! The only downside is that he takes quite a while to get back to you. :-(
Professor Ziegenhorn's class was unique in that it used Globalyceum rather than a textbook. I found it more challenging to retain facts as it lacks an index to help with studying, but it was also more educationally interesting than traditional reading. I wish there had been more mandatory class discussions, but all in all, it was a GREAT class!
I took Z a while back & he's always dressed to impress. Lectures are so heavy! Exams were 2 open note essay-questions that require a full page (2 total). Then on other days of exams are multiple choices. Also, he has us either writing a full-on book report OR volunteer somewhere then write about it. Overall, the class was demanding than I thought.
This class was surprisingly very demanding. The modules on canvas require a lot of time. The quizzes aren't easy; you have to pay attention to the modules. He grades pretty easy on the essays and project, though. Bill as a teacher is pretty nice and responds to emails pretty quick. But, keep in mind this class does take up a good chunk of time.
Makes the material interesting. The midterm and final do have a lot of essay writing but he is a very generous grader and gives you a few topic choices so don't stress too much. He genuinely cares about students and will be flexible with you if you are struggling as long as you communicate with him.
Professor Ziegenhorn did an excellent job of keeping the class interesting and above all was the fastest grader Ive ever had the pleasure of taking a course with. Will provide you with a grade, quality feedback and email responses within 24 hours.
All the works he gives are chill. If you have a loaded schedule, you don't have to worry in his class because he is very forgiving.
Professor Z was great! He made the online class interesting. It's a lot of work, but its easy to keep up with, as he is very straightforward forward with expectations. I really liked that he had options for the main project in class. Tests were reasonable, and if you did the work then its totally passable. Highly recommend.
I have learned a lot about World War II and the Vietnam war in this class. I am glad that I have new things in this class. This professor is a great professor but his quizzes are hard.
He's a fair grader, and I highly recommend his course. I enjoyed his lecture readings and the online textbook. There's a quarter-long research assignment which I encourage you to start early and get done. I chose to volunteer at an archives center and enjoyed my time there. Midterm/Final are multiple-choice, along with two essay questions, timed.
I love his grading and test. He doesn't expect much from students. His lecture is kinda boring, but they mostly come out in the test. I didn't really listen to his lecture much because its super long. Still I got an A because I read a textbook. Don't spend too much time on small events in the textbook. Briefly read it then you will get good grade.
Mr. Ziegenhorn had an outline of all the chapters required to be read prior to each class posted on the Canvas page, and also provided the necessary videos and articles (excluding the textbook) for the in-class assignments. His grading and feedback were fair and helpful on the tests and projects. Looking forward to HIST 17B.
That was my second class with professor Ziegenhorn, all I can say is that he was one of the best professors that I had in Foothill! Very fair grader and always gives helpful feedback, his course is very organized and you know all the due dates and upcoming assignments, which helps students to adjust their schedules for the class.
He sent supportive messages to us throughout the quarter telling us we were doing an amazing job ;-; 1-2 assignments/wk, 1 quarter-long project, midterm + final. Super easy grader and very lenient with rubric. Gave helpful feedback. Super understanding when it came to asking for an extension! Very quick to respond to emails as well! great dude!!
Professor Ziegenhorn is very nice professor and assigns good material for each topic. The assignments he assigns really makes you think and the reading is very interesting. Professor Ziegenhorn also give very good feedback if there is a correction you need to make in your assignment and lets you redo your correction which I really like.
I took Professor Ziegenhorn's History 17A class in Fall 2020. He was a great professor since he was willing to meet with me whenever I had questions.
Professor Ziegenhorn was a great professor, who really puts the time and effort into his classes. I had him for two this quarter and both followed a clear and concise structure. Weekly short responses or discussions and five timed 20 min. quizzes, which were hard but if you prepare and read the modules it's easy. Midterm, final, and extra credit.
Prof Ziegenhorn writes his own essays alongside the textbook and they are quite entertaining; you can tell he cares about his job. The quarter-long project is about archival work, in-person or online, and I'm having the most fun I've ever had on a college project. Weekly quizzes and writing assignments are straightforward. Good feedback as well.
You need to put yourself through a lot. His quizzes are hard and timed at 20 min please pay attention to the reading. need to use the textbook. He is a bit tough on grading so you have to be specific in everything. Weekly assignments, 4 quizzes, 1 midterm, 1 project, and 1 final. Extra credit is a bit hard to earn. The exams are MPC with 2 essays.
This class is great, especially if you have plans to focus your studies on history. Quizzes are hard and timed - they usually focus on the lectures. I felt like I did a lot in the classes and to please this professor, but he ignored my efforts. But, I enjoyed the classes (17A/17C) and found them to be useful. There is some extra credit to earn.
Unpredictable professor. Strongly suggest going to his office hours in regard to exam, research project, and quiz preparation. Consider doing museum archives for project - I did not personally choose this option and felt the professor held it against me (I did the book option instead) Overally, manageable workload and enjoyable lecture content.
The class is super straight forward, turn in the work on time, easy A. There is a final project that takes a medium amount of effort. Additionally, if you're particularly interested in history, this is a great class. I learned a lot and the content/presentation was super easy to follow along with. He's a good teacher, take his class if you can
I took 2 classes with this prof, and while I loved his online course, I missed his lectures—his personality really shines through. Hilarious dude. He sometimes goes on slight tangents, but all the information is interesting and largely relevant. Easy, mostly essay based exams: open note. Cool project that involves being involved in archiving!
Prof. Ziegenhorn was just okay. Answered questions, but felt judged by him. Took 17B/17C. 17C's lectures were highly liberal, but great overwise. He graded quickly, harsh on essays. Projects took up a lot of time, but were not that hard. He clearly wants you to choose Archives option, but not everyone has the time or place for that.
Took his class a while back and had a great time. It was entertaining, informative, and he provided clear feedback on every assignment. He handles then subject matter with care and gives interesting prompts. Vis a vis book review, I suggest going with one from the suggested list. Would absolutely take one of his classes again, highly recommended.
Professor Ziegenhorn runs a well-structured class. Lectures are engaging, and the textbook is helpful. Definitely utilize Unstuck AI and office hours for exam prep. Overall, manageable workload and worthwhile course.
That class was difficult for me as I struggle with writing. However, the professor is extremely nice and will help you! I aced the class and he does A+. I would take his class again!
Professor Ziegenhorn is nice and respectful. I honestly enjoyed his class a lot. Each week the module opened on Tuesdays and we had some reading from the textbook and some from the essays he provided. Each week we only had 2 assignment to do and they were really easy. A midterm and final with multiple choice and one essay question.
If you mess up, he will be there to guide you. Take his class to be successful and easy extra credit. However, I did struggle with the writing part. The peers in his class always do everything literally the day of and you have to rely on them for full credit aka "Respond to others." Everything is online, no in person!
The grading criteria is a little confusing, but should be relatively easy to get a good grade. He's a nice guy, and accommodating of student's needs. History is not my favorite subject by any means, but if you like it you should take a few classes with him.
