A great educator who uses many METAPHORS used frequently in Latin America, so the STUDENT MUST be willing to learn, committed or AT LEAST BE INTERESTED in such a topic to gain the knowledge the course provides. Excellent professor, gives a descent idea of the complexity of Latin American Politics

I can't believe people have been giving him bad ratings. I think he is an interesting lecturer, he gave us great material to read, and he is great guy. He exposes you to a lot of interesting material and his assignments are fun. I think people don't like him because they are uncomfortable with his politics. He sides with the weak and oppressed.

Class would be much, much better if the size were smaller. Portfolio does seem pointless (especially since 50+ are made every quarter). However, Mr. B is very accommodating and genuinely interested in teaching something. A Pablo Freire fan (if that means anything to you). Just do all the steps and you'll be fine!

He's not difficult when it comes to the multiple choice tests. But he focuses too much on the portfolio which I think is pointless. And he does talk about politics too much which should not be the topic of discussion for a Latin American Studies class. He also keeps you late and you have to read a lot. Show up to class and read and you will do fine

I enjoyed the subject of this class and Mr. B was very knowledgable! There are 2 midterms, 1 final and a portfolio due at the end of the quarter! Honestly this class is tough but it is possible to get an A. Mr. B gives great study guides on the reading and he also gives many answers during his lectures! Don't miss class, study and you'll pass!

Loved Mr. B! I would love to take him again. He is so funny and smart and I just loved his class. Highly recommend. Be on time and listen, he really does give you everything you need to know in lectures or in readers. Take notes on your readers, no notebook was needed.

Mr.B is the best professor I have taken at Cal State LA! He is one of few professors that will push you to the limit. Mr. B is always ready to help if you have any questions or concerns. Remember to pay attention in class and do not miss any of the class meetings.

Okay so I have never rated a professor, but after this class it was a MUST! I will simply say what is expected. A portfolio and 2 midterms and one final. He offers like 4 extra credit and 2 workshops on a Saturday for one hour. The extra credit is not even worth doing nor the workshops. Gets off topic when you ask a question. Reading is a lot.

The textbook are like 11 readers way too much reading. Midterms and final are long questions. About 70-80 questions and final 100 questions. Portfolio is okay thats not the hard part but class made no sense everything was unorganized and all over the place. Gets off topic too much and expects a lot. Take a different professor is YOU CAN

You'll have 3 exams and 1 portfolio. The exams are mostly fair, if you read his assigned readers and prepare well on study guide (which called pink sheet). Also, participation is helpful because he will "reveal" some exam questions. The portfolio is tough if you procrastinate because it contains many parts. Hint: go to his workshop at least once.

Very nice personality and very helpful professor, he's here for his students. Very passionate about the subject. Interesting class material, I found out a lot. Be prepared to read though. If you follow his guidance and don't procrastinate, you'll get a good grade.

Read and annotate your readers/ do your pink sheets. Its the best way you'll actually learn something for the tests (3). Bollinger is super fun and lenient but he's all over the place, don't expect to actually be able to follow whatever he's talking about. He also assigns a portfolio, its super easy can get it done in like 2-3 days.

Very few assignments. Two exams and one portfolio project on the subject of your choosing. Super easy class, lectures are sometimes all over the place but interesting. Read the readers and do your pink sheet and you'll ace the exams. I missed class quite a bit but still got an A. Highly recommend his class!

I took Mr. B for LAS 3420 in the Fall 2019 semester. Mr. B brings a wealth of personal experience to the material he teaches which reflects in his excitement for the topics. His lectures are fun and informative and those with an eye for history will appreciate the new perspectives he brings to various historical topics. Overall a great class!
