great professor... a lot of fun.. very funny
Amazing teacher and fun class!
You rock Bowres
He always takes time out for the kids, he shoots hoops with us after class and teaches us strong moral values. He sure can DUNK like no one else. His 360 Windmill Jam is better than Michael Jordans.

Stress free class! Alot of fun even in the a.m.! He's a really funny guy! bowers is awesome
The man can ball. In order to beat him watch his crossover dribble, it's weak. If you box him out under the glass he can't rebound, thats where you can make up ground against his stellar "D". If he still scores on you, he will POP and LOCK in yo
Very good teacher. Makes the class enjoyable
Very cool teacher. Class is not boring at all. He tells some funny ass jokes and is kinda cute. I miss his class. I took him two semesters in a row because he is so cool.
His style is unorthodox, and I'm not talking about his teaching. Easy to learn from, but hard to look at. He thinks polyester goes with anything. I still can't understand how he is able to date those supermodels dressing like that and drive that Ferrari on a professors salary?
Bowers is great. His class was really fun and he is always available to help you out. He can be a bit pushy in class with participation, but as long as you get in there and read the stories and talk you will be ok. I highly reccomend him. Good times even at 9:30 A.M.
Bowers is awesome. He's hilarious and you can get a lot out of this course if you want to. Class is always interesting to say the least. He has a very alternative teaching style and I love it.
Do not listen to these ratings. He makes it a class project to come on here and write good things about him. He is a very condescending, belittling and makes you scared to write papers. Is impossible to get ahold of and never returns papers! Do not take.
Will Bowers changed my life. Give the man a million dollars, Lord, by wire transfer from the Caymans, and have a beer with him, Mary mother of God, to celebrate.
Bowers is funny as hell, he makes class so much fun. We laughed the entire semester. Go to class he gives quizzes. Papers aren't that bad he lets you revise and turn them back in for a better grade. Only thing is he's very hard to reach and doesn't give papers back within a reasonable time.
Cool teacher, funny as hell, and very bright. This was a fun class, I'd recommend it
He blinded me with science!
One of the funniest and most enjoyable and most intelligent of my teachers at Santa Fay. Highly recommended.
it's just that i wanted to be as cool as he and couldn't work it, work it, work it. self-esteem low. anxiety high. suffering, bad, from a case of teach-worship. he is a difficult god. help, bowers, help!
Bowers ... You are hilarious. Wish we could hang sometime.. The dress code is ummm... interesting to say the least. Love the hair. Thanks for not being the "bored-inary" instructor.
Bowers is the best professor I've had, and the most interesting person I've met...ever. His classes are worth taking. You can gain more than just knowledge directly relating to the course. I enjoyed his classes and never missed a day of the three classes I took. His wit is amazing. I highly recommend his classes; any would be great, I'm sure.
The only class that I could take at 8 in the morning and not fall asleep in- he makes it so fun and intersting, I wanna be like the B!!!
I loved this guy, and I took him like 3 years ago. I have since moved away, but he was my fav prof. of all time. I loved the readings, and his wit, and this class. All teachers should be young and fresh like him. I wish I could take another class, and I still recommend peeps read fast food nation, which we only read a few pages of in his class.
This guy was awesome!! Only teacher that could keep me awake at 9 am! Also lets you revise papers at end if you didnt do well. By far my fav teacher I've had so far- you actually wanna go have a beer with the guy! Go Bowers!!
Bowers is a pretty cool guy, keeps a boring subject tolerable, not too hard, the way he dresses is a trip!
bowers was a great professor. He opened our eyes to lots of new ideas and subjects. I liked the way he graded papers, in that we could keep revising them until the end. The class was a welcome relief during the day. Papers sometimes come back really late, but to avoid this visit with him during office hours and he'll go over it/ grade it.
so easy.... i just missed a little more than half the classes (8 am class) if you just go to class to take the easy quizes u have an a.... i had like a 12% quiz average.. (40% of grade) but we ended up all doing the optional final togeather in class and i looked at my grade for fall term and i had a b .. hah take him... easiest class for enc 1102
You will NEVER get your papers back! But super easy class.
If only he wasn't my teacher....
He is absolutely amazing. His lectures are completely random and out there.. if he has an active class, he ends up getting completely off the subject.. but in a good way. He is willing to take time and explain any problems you might have and he loves what he does. I definitely encourage you to be an active student. You will love him.He makes it fun
This teacher sucks so bad! If you are lazy and do not want to learn anything even though you pay 120 something dollars to take the class then get him. He was always 20 minutes late, never on topic, doesn't return papers EVERY, and he just plain sucks. He's the sweetest guy alive but he is just a horrible teacher. I was never bored but i didnt learn
Bizarro! I think this dude needs some help, but I love going to his class. Good luck to you, Bowers!
Bowers is passionate about what he teaches and he knows what he's talking about. Pay attention, read the assignments, put some effort into your papers, and it'll be smooth sailing. His class is fun, but don't sign up for an early class if you're not awake for discussion -- he's big on discussion (definitely not a bad thing). He's one of a kind.
Funny and helpful. Very democratic class.
Bowers is a great teacher! hes fun and he knows what hes talking about. you'll get a lot out of his class.
had a good time taking this class especially the fact that it was a 10AM class. My first impression of Mr. Bowers was that he is unique. He keeps the class fun and is always keeps everyone awake and entertained. He did show up late 80% of the time. I don't even like English but Mr. Bowers makes the class enjoyable. I am taking him again for ENC1102
Bowers is very strange. His clothes are something else.He likes for the class to participate during class discussion and you never get bored, even at 8am. He is ALWAYS late and you usually don't get your papers back unless you go to his office. The best thing is that he lets you resubmit revised essays until you get the grade you want.
Professor Bowers is a VERY funny guy. He's really nice sometimes he goes off target a bit but he is more than willing to assit you in anyway to complete your work and make a good grade
Awesome teacher! I was unaware he was even the teacher first day of class, he's very young and punk rocker looking. You get to vote on a quiz for each reading you are assigned. The papers are easy, and he goes over them very well. You have to present two oral presentations. Easy class, Very funny teacher!

Bowers is great. You get to vote if you want a quiz or not that day and he gives you a heads up on the topics for your inclass essays. As long as you go to class and read you'll do fine. I hate english and I came out with a B+.
Mr. bowers is a nice teacher a little strange. His class is very easy. He lets you vote on taking quiz. If you have a problem with him being late you might not want to take his class. Overall he is a good teacher. I passed his class with know problem
he's awesome!! you get to vote if you want to take a quiz or not. his assignments are very intriguing. i went to one of his readings at the local book store and i enjoyed it very much. i love his class!!!
This is probably the easiest teacher I have ever taken. His class is a breeze as long as you read what your supposed to and come to class. His papers are easy and quizes are optional. If you want an A then take this class. He is usually late to class and lets you out early. Good luck finding anyone better.
He feels the need to arrive at least ten minutes late to class and many times doesnt show up at all. He doesnt stick to the topic, and has awful topics to write about.
Good teacher. Great sense of humor. Unfortunately, the class I'm in is filled with students who see participation and arguments against the norm as inconceivable, and their leader seems to be the mother of all class clowns. I pity my professor, for we have become his fifth class...if anyone here knows what I mean by that.
Funny Guy!
A joy.
Great teacher. Class is pretty easy. Bunch of little quizzes on essays you read in and out of class. Very easy to get help if needed.
Bowers is an enthusiastic teacher. I took him for 1101 and I am currently taking him for 1102. He supposedly teaches Adv. Comp. so I will probably take him for that class to. His assignments are really easy if you pay attention to what he does. He gives quizzes that really decide your grade and they are really easy if you read the material.
These are the kinds of classes I looked forward to as an aspiring high school student so long ago. This is a class for those interested in English, or someone just looking to fill their degree requirements. I really enjoy this class, and by the time I'm done with SFCC, I'll have taken at least three of his classes.
This is the best english class I have gone. If you don't get an A is because you don't want it. A few quizzes that you can vote on, four essays that he helps you a lot and NO FINAL it is optional to improve your grade
Don't like his "style" of teaching. Makes you read a lot of trash that you can't believe is supposed to be considered good literature. *watching a profane movie in class. Would not take him ever again, nor recommend my friends to take him. Do not take if you're a Christian!!
cool teacher. mad funny. super easy. take this class!!!
AMUSING. He has a different way to teaching. This course was easy. He's a little disorganized when it comes to grading papers but his hair is cool. I would recommend him to a friend.
Bowers is very disorganized. If you get your papers back, concider yourself lucky. He is overly opinionated, and hates when students disagree with him. He is NEVER on time for class, and hardly ever returns emails. You can't leave a phone messagae, because his voice mail is always full. He is NO HELP to his students, so don't ask.
I absolutely love Bowers. He is very witty and extremely smart. I'm always impressed with his trivia and I hope I get to see him again one day. His class is a great way to start the day. He is also quite cute, but that's just a perk. You may want to say a prayer for the return of your papers before you submit them, though.
He is amazing!! If u have to take an english class let bowers teach u! He is simply the best!!
Bowers is interesting and funny for sure. Not a dull moment really. The fact that he is opinionated is really a non-issue (many profs are.) However, if you really need help with English, don't take his class. He will not get your papers back to you and in a subject such as this, learning from your mistakes is important for the next round of papers.
great teacher. never a dull moment, class is always interesting. the final is extra credit and he lets you resubmit your essays until you get an A.
I took him about 4 years ago for ENC1101! It's great to know he's still a teacher, and I would love to go back to his class again! His essay topics let you use your own creativity, but challenged you as well. I think his was the most enjoyable class I have taken since being in College, or even High School!!! :)
Yeah. This guy is hilarious. If you are some stuck up, non-bendable person with rigid views on life, don't take him. For the rest of you out there that want a funny, friendly, extremely comical, fair, interesting teacher- this is your guy!
Bowers is the best teacher I've ever had, literally. I loved his class, and regret missing a single one. I'm done with my English courses, and I wish i had failed to keep attending his classes. He is super witty, and makes you want to be there. The reading material is interesting, best class I've ever taken, by far.. I miss it.
You are an idiot if you don't take his class after going to rate my professor. com don't make fun of his hair or be insulting and this teacher will let you get away with anything
Mr. Bowers is awesome! He's extremely intelligent. I love his writing and the subject matter of our assignments. I've never had a problem getting in touch with him. I highly recommend Mr. Bowers!
Have 10 yrs of teaching reading & English @ the secondary level. Learned more from Bowers than from any prof EVER. He's wacky; uses humor & wit to keep the class interesting. Explains things clearly. Offers broad range of lit, poetry (& films). Allows opposing viewpoints; fair. Provides very helpful corrections on papers. Can only fail if you try!
Off-beat teacher teaching bizarre and screwed-up, twisted-minds material like Letters to Wendy's. This helps us how? Bowers is low-key about his incredible own writing talent. His was best stuff we read!! Off-track alot with Bowers film reviews. Dynamic discussions. Little learning feedback. Weird but fascinating class, best for way-out thinkers.
A very nice person but has ADD to the 10th power! During his lectures he goes off on random tangents and forgets what he is talking about. He takes too long to give back papers and is very disorganized. Gives you back assignments with food stains all over it. He is hilarious and makes me laugh every time I attend class but I did not learn anything
ADD? Try ADHD in a wonderful way! His humor & energy are contagious. His knowledge of lit and writing is astounding. Don't get a paper back? Just meet w/ him after class & he'll grade it. He wants every student to succeed. Off beat? YOU BET, but willing to assist & will allow you to make a good argument even if he's on the other side. A+++ THE BEST
Great guy, good professor. Interesting and open outlook. Attendance makes class easy, no surprises there. It's obvious he just wants you to succeed.
"it's a free country" one of his messages
By far the best teacher I have ever had. I learned a ridiculous amount about my own writing in his class. He gives you multiple chances for extra credit and you can rewrite any essay, including in class ones for a better grade. Best class I have ever taken. He loves Emily Dickinson FYI
I think even he knows he's a little full of it- but that's the point of analysis! Stretch concepts further than you ever knew how to before! Can be snappy sometimes, but if you're a jerk to the teacher ("why do i need to know this dumb stuff?") then you deserve it. you know you do. take him if you're a free thinker.
Bowers is an awesome teacher. I look forward to his class due to his charisma, sense of humor, and intelligence. I wish i could have him as my teacher for every class. He makes learning fun!
I loved going to Bowers' class! He is so eccentric. He always has something really funny to say about topics of discussion. You have a potential quiz on assigned readings almost everyday, but he lets the class vote on if you take it or not. A few papers, nothing terrible. Highly recommend Bowers to anyooone!
This professor is a nut! He's the coolest nut ever though. My interest in the material itself was minimal, but he made the class so enjoyable I actually miss it! I looked forward to his class everyday and would love to take another class with him. He's freakin' awesome!
Best professor I've had at Santa Fe. His class is so incredibly easy. I switched out of Keebaugh (Most difficult professor ever) Into his class. Best choice of my academic life. I learned a little and it was a simple class. Hardly any assignments and an easy A!!!
Bowers is a remarkable teacher. He makes learning fun. Class was super easy and Bowers is a funny guy, I laughed every class. Vote on if you take a quiz, only 4 easy essays, attendance counts. Show up for class and you pretty much earn an A. Highly recommend this class and professor.
This guy was amazing!!! I had class early in morning at 8, and I don't even like English classes but Bowers made interesting, fun, and you would want to go.He is a really nice teacher. I felt bad for all things that happen to him. If you ever take Enc1102 he is the man!!! ;)
Great teacher and is super funny. Probably the best teacher I've had at Santa Fe yet. The class votes on whether or not they want a quiz and the out of class essays are pretty easy and short. He knows a lot about his subject and will tell you really funny stories. You don't have to take the final if you're satisfied with your quiz grade. TAKE HIM.
im a guys guy and i cried the last day of class in my car. im going to miss it so much. Love English now and I read every chance i get. Thank you for everything
super funny, lets the class vote on quizes on readings but even when you read the material and take a quiz theyre not hard. essays arent hard, no reseach involed really. really cool stories, relates to the students well. Take him!"free country" is his favortite saying
GREAT PROFESSOR!!! Would recommend to everyone, he is hilarious, makes the class enjoyable, readings are interesting - Class votes on quizzes that aren't hard! Quiz average is final exam unless student chooses to take final which is list 20 facts that you learned from class... You wont regret taking this professor :D
His class is so interesting and easy. he grades the 4 essays super easy and the class votes on quizzes. Its impossible to get anything below a C.
Great! I had to drop his enc1102 but I will be rejoining soon. I love his class so much...
Funny teacher, will have you laughing everyday...But he is very disorganized and only returns papers after you hassle him so you never really know what you have in the class until the end of the semester.I didnt like how he was poorly structured, however he was helpful in paper conferences. class votes on quizzes for assigned readings. Easy A .
Funny guy and a good teacher when he's there for class, but he didn't show up a lot! I didn't get all they needed from the class and that's a shame. I feel cheated. Also I don't think he likes his students much and thinks we're all useless tools of the computer age.
This guy is worthless as a professor. Doesn't show for class, doesn't hand papers back. I went to his office to get my quiz grades and essays back at the end of the semester and he hadn't even read any of them. Why have us write them if he isn't going to read them? Funny yes, but a complete jackass of a man.
Mr. Bowers is a funny teacher takes him along time to return papers. He is very helpful with papers that you have to turn in. he really makes you dig deep.
Very nice, hot, and helpful teacher.
By far the funniest, nicest, and best teacher I've ever had. I had an early class with him but I never had one problem getting up to go. Absolutely LOVE him. Gives you the decision on quizzes and they're based off of book reading the night before. Highly recommend taking him, I will miss him very much next semester!!
AWESOME teacher i recommend taking him..his funny i had early class no problem waking up he makes class fun and enojoyable...option to take quizzes
Mr. Bowers is an AWESOME teacher. The only way you can fail his class is not showing and doing the assignments. Assignments can be made up so there shouldn't be no failing
I recommend Prof. Bowers for younger students who aren't the greatest at school. He is a good teacher. Just make sure to attend class as much as he does (which isn't alot), do as much assignments as possible and act like you're interested while you're in class. He is the typical younger teacher who acts like he doesn't care but actually does.
Took Bowers for both ENC 1101 & 1102. The class was a cake walk and the assignments were interesting. So if you want an easy class take it. Bowers is quite neurotic and is definitely quite the hipster. He writes for Pitchfork and drives a Volvo. Did not bother me but if you are allergic to hipsters I'd stay away. Also does not hand back anything.
Easy class. If you dont get an A your an idiot. Funny guy. Go to class so you can see his outfits
Bowers is the best! He may not come to class but when he does it is very interesting. Easiest A I've ever gotten.
By far best teacher I have encountered. He makes class fun to go to, while teaching you interesting stuff that would be boring with another teacher. Don't let the loose structure fool you he is a great teacher and not the easiest grader.... Especially on papers. A+
Mr. Bowers is an extremely intelligent man. His vocabulary is so precise and wide that you almost need to bring a dictionary to class, but don't let his lexicon intimidate you. He is often late, but that isn't really problematic. He also doesn't return written assignments, but just go to his office and he will work with you then and there. Amazing!
Just gets off task a little, but other than that he's managable
Very good, easy going teacher. If you miss any class or not passing the quizzes he will give you extra to make up.
Great Teacher, he made learning literature fun :) You have to read stories and then you are quizzed on the stories, very easy! He is very flexible about due dates on papers and will work with you so you can get the grade you want, gives plenty of chances to correct papers. Dont let his appearance fool you, he is very intelligent.
If you don't like ENC classes, take his classes. I've never enjoyed English classes but he makes it fun and interesting. He does require you to put in some effort but it's not too demanding or difficult even for those who hate it. He makes it difficult to fail his class. If you do you probably shouldn't be in school anyway
Take him. Plain and simple if you want an "A". Grades very easy and give a ton a extra credit opportunities. Makes class worth going to.
Bowers is awesome. If you take any other English teacher then sucks for you. I am someone who HATES English and I've missed like 2 classes all semester. Uses big words, gives you quizzes which the class gets to vote on, and a few papers. Other than taking forever to grade papers, he is the the man.
Bowers made coming to class at 9:50am fun. I was never sleepy because he always has some funny story. His class was relatively easy, he is a bit picky in how long he wants his essays to be (2.75 pages). He lets the class vote on quizzes and he's extremely helpful if you don't understand something. I highly reccommend!
Great professor! Easy going, hard grader but gives you plenty of time to re-edit your papers. Take him!
Amazing teacher!! I'm not the biggest fan of literature classes, but he made it fun and i was excited to turn my papers in(which don't have to be MLA format!)Yes, he is very scatter brain and will get off topic easily but, he is very passionate about what he choices as reading material and wants his students to become just as passionate!RECOMMENDED
This class is easy and fun! Take it.
Fun teacher, likes to talk and involve the students, he does talk fast. other than the papers he gives, he gives you a choice if you want a quiz or not from the reading the night before. He is fun, easy and enjoy's what he teaches.
I'd recommend Mr. Bowers. Your class will vote on quizzes based on assigned reading, and they aren't hard as long as you do your homework. No tests or final, 1 in class essay and 3 out of class essays. Bowers is funny and likes to interact with students but don't let the chill atmosphere fool you into thinking you can be disrespectful
I hate English, but I should've gotten an A. Everybody loves Professor Bowers, though. He's a character. The material is all pretty easy: a bunch of silly assignments (quiz grades 2 of which you can drop), 3 papers and two in-class papers. Tests? I don't remember taking any. Anyway, definitely taking Bowers for 1102, unfailable class.
Bowers is the funniest professor. Not only do you get a good laugh, but you also learn a lot. Have very few essays to write but you do take a lot of quizzes that are fairly easy. I highly suggest you take this class.
Professor Bowers is an amazing teacher. He keeps the class entertained so you are always paying attention. There are no tests and a few out class and in class essays. You get to vote on quizzes. Pay attention to the readings he assigns and you'll do fine.
Great Professor!
He's always late to class. i had him at 9am and he would always be late so he wouldn't get there until 910-915. otherwise he's an AWSOME professor! cant go wrong with him. 2 OUT OF CLASS ESSAYS AND 2 IN CLASS ESSAYS. we had like 3 quizzes and no final or midterm!!! HE ROCKSS!
Prof Bowers comes highly recommended. Take him if you can. Very easy-going and approachable, and successful in teaching the material. My only complaint is that he can be too lax on due dates and in-class discipline. Still a great guy.
His class is super easy. Just do all the essays and you'll be fine as long as you talk to him about it. The only problem I ever had with this class is how late we would receive our essays. We also did not use the book at all this semester, and I highly doubt that you would need it. Save your money!!
Great teacher! He will make you laugh everyday. Has his own unique sense of humor. One of the only teachers I have ever looked forward to going to class to listen too. Very understanding. If you take anyone else you are missing out. He is extremely intelligent and has a way with words. Favors Macklemore slightly.
Terrible teacher. Doesn't respond to emails. Doesn't grade papers, so you don't know where to improve. Is late to class every single day. Gets off topic easily. Did not learn a thing. If he decides he doesn't wanna show up. He won't. And will not email the class to tell you. He completely talks over the class. Don't waste your time.
The best teacher, EVER! He's good looking too ^.^ I took him in Fall 2013, great teacher. Attend class, do the readings, you'll definitely pass. TAKE HIM!!!
Super easy, if you fail, you just aren't trying. Quizzes are voted on, so do the reading which is never a lot and you will ace the quizzes. Fun guy to talk too, extra credit opportunities. Tough grader on essays, but you can revise for more points. Only 3 out of class essays and 1 inclass essay. Longest one was 3.25 pages. Try and u will pass
Very easy class, long as you pay attention. Only downfall he rambles on about stuff and you never actually have enough time to learn. But overall excellent class. Highly recommended.
Best. Professor. Ever. 6 absences allowed. Quizzes (which are voted on) are all of hilariousinteresting stories. Gives you plenty of leeway to succeed and do essays at your own pace. Hilarious yet really smart. Very hipster. This is my only class where everyone is happy to be there and speaks up. Use office hours to your advantage! Easy A!
Hands down. The best. Plain and simple.
Bowers is an easy A, he doesn't require much work & willing to work with you. But if you callmessage him, don't expect to receive a response most of the time. It's almost frustrating to the MAX. He also has a problem with giving papers back, or more like he takes forever to grade papers so you won't know if you're failing till grades are posted.
Loved mr. bowers. he is very clear about his instructions. Cannot slack AT ALL. there is a reading everyday and you can vote on a quiz next time you meet. if you need help with papers he is more than happy to help.
You never knew what your grade was in his class until the last week when you received ALL your papers back all at once. He was never clear on due dates and always changed them which confused everyone. But on the bright side he always joked around making the class a bit more enjoyable. If you miss class you're basically screwed.
I've been putting off and putting off taking ENC 1101 because I consider myself a horrible writer. I had heard through the grapevine (cliche) that Prof. Bowers was the professor to take. From the very first day I knew that his class was right for me. Yes, he does take awhile to give papers back. But if you follow his instructions, you will do fine.
Oh, Bowers.I certainly learned more about current events and issues than how to actually write, but a cool class nonetheless. You will write 4 papers, not much HW other than that. Class mostly consists of open discussion. I did learn a lot about the fast food industry, marketing, racial issues. And I became a vegetarian 12way through the semester
Bowers was probably my least favorite professor in my college career thus far. I feel like I barely learned a thing and he constantly complains about how messed up our society is and I always left the class feeling down. He is consistently late to class and does NOT use canvas to post grades. I had no idea what grade I had until it was permanent.
Good Luck. Prof Bowers doesnt get anything back to you unless you go to his office and get it yourself. I thought about dropping the class because I was stressed by him not posting grades. I went to his office the last week of class and saw what I needed to do for a good grade. Didnt know what that grade was until they were posted for the semester.
You won't get papers or quizzes or anything back until you ask for them. If that doesn't bother you, this class is awesome. Really interesting. I took AP Lit in HS and it was impossible, Bowers makes it easy to follow and easy to pass.
There is no way you can not pass this class. As others said you do not learn much about writing papers but you did learn a lot about the topics your essays were on. We had 5 papers, 2 in class and 3 out of class. He helps you with your papers if you go to his office hours. He tells you exactly what to fix. If you do the work its an easy A.
Bowers is honestly the best English teacher I have had. He is hilarious and very open minded. He has taught me to see the bigger picture and has given me a different outlook on life. Essays are beyond easy, although you have to complete them all to pass, he doesn't generally care when they're due. If given the opportunity I would take him again.
The ABSOLUTE BEST English teacher there is at Santa Fe College! He's hilarious, energetic, extremely flexible, patient, understandable, experienced, humorous, knowledgeable, and wants ALL of his students to succeed and pass his class! I wish he taught more higher level english classes. But he is an AWESOME professor that I recommend for EVERYONE
He is funny professor who gives entertaining lectures. If you read the materials assigned, his quizzes are easy to pass because most of the questions are open ended. His papers aren't too bad, the longest one (out of four) was 3.5 pages. If you are a strong writer, this class will be a breeze. If not, he will gladly help with your papers.
Bowers was my all time favorite Professor. He taught me more about learning to love literature than any other professor. Be sure to read, especially when it comes to when he goes over poetry. Pass the quizzes and write your papers. You'll get an A or a B.
Mr. Bowers is a great professor. He gets everyone involved and he's a really chill and funny person. I definitely recommend him.
Mr. Bowers, in my opinion, is one of the best teachers a Santa Fe College. Yea, he doesn't grade the papers right away, but if you go to his office and sit down with him, he'll grade everything you want. He has other classes with many other students, so I understand why projects do not get graded right away. He is definitely fair!
Ever love art but find the artist to be the most crooked person who existed...? Ever wonder what line is drawn between learning life lessons and witnessing a man who is a life lesson of mostly what not to do, simultaneously...? Great professor/awful person... so many poor personal life decisions but pours himself into his profess(ions)/(ing).
I FREAKING LOVE BOWERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He's honestly the best there is... Would recommend to anyone
I LOVE WILLIAM BOWERS!! He is very laid back, and leaves it up to his students to earn the grade. He will not spoon feed students, but will give good direction for what needs to be done In order to make a good grade. Bowers has an awesome personality and makes class very entertaining. I would take his class again if I could!
Great teacher. Plenty of time to write papers. Very interesting guy who gives good lectures.
Bowers is an excellent professor and a great guy! Always available after class and during his office hours. Really energetic in the classroom and goes over upcoming assignments/papers in precise detail. He notices the students that show up to each class and the ones that do not. Highly recommend and look forward to taking him again for ENC1102.
Lord Bowers is the king of composition classes! All out-of-class essays were due at the end of the semester giving us ample opportunity to write, review with him and revise our work. He's funny, considerate and communicates well. I so look forward to taking his ENC2010, having to wait until next semester is my biggest annoyance with this semester
He wasn't a bad teacher at all, his class was very easy overall but if you're a procrastinator then this class is probably not your best option because he gives you five essays in total but like three of them are due at the end of the semester. He's late to class A LOT, and never answers his emails, but abuse his office hours and you'll be okay.
Easy class to take;however, you will not know your exact grade until the end of the semester. During the semester, you will do a normal amount of quizzes, but he won't even grade all of them. I don't know if he didn't grade them out of pure laziness, or because he ran out of time. I would not recommend this class at all. Did not learn a thing.
Did not learn a thing in this class. I would not recommend anyone to take this class. All he really does is rant about how bad our society is. I'm not sure if he knows that what he's supposed to teach. Emailed him more then 4 times and did not get a reply back once. He is also late to every class.
There is no final which is nice;however, he assigns all essays to be due at the end of the semester. He will also grade all the essays at the end of the semester being that you will not know your grade until it is final. You will do maybe 7 or less quizzes, but he will grade 3 if you are lucky. Do not take him if you are expecting a professional.
Prof. Bowers class was really great. All the essays were due at the end of the term but try not to wait till last minute to write them. He's very accessible out of class during his office hours and if you bring him drafts of your essays he will go over them with you so you can revise them before turning them in.
saying bowers is racist is wrong Im a black female & took him twice passed both with A He was very helpful and gives up ample amount of time for assignments dont miss class there maybe a quiz but he gives 2-3 extra credit assignments worth 1 quiz grade as long as your better writer from when u started you will pass. HE IS AND WILL ALWAYS BE MY FAV
Professor Bowers is one of the most caring and understanding professors. He cares about all his students and will always have the opportunity to give students extra credit throughout the entire semester. As long as you do the assigned readings and essays, there's no reason for failing. He has a great sense of personality too!
Bowers is hands down the funniest person I have ever met. His humor makes it easy to pay attention during class. However, you will rarely ever get anything done in class. Bowers is kind of all over the place and loses focus all the time... I can't say I have actually learned anything about English but I know about every current event thanks to him.
This class its self is not that bad. If you read what you're supposed to so you are prepared for the quizzes and carn wright decent essays you will be fine. However, while he is funny at sometimes, he can be extremely creepy and weird, constantly gets off topic. It's safe to say I did not learn anything in this class.
Bowers is awesome. I highly recommend taking his class. As long as you show up and do the work it's an easy A. He is also very helpful if you need feedback.
I highly reccomend that you don't take this class. I seriously did not learn a single thing in this class other then Professor Bowers opinion on worldy matters&films. I somewhat feel bad for this Professor because he seems to have a lot of anxiety, and I really feel he should be a film director or something, not a teacher. Pointless class.
Would take this class over and over and over again any day!!!! Doesn't even feel like a college class or "school". Best part of my day was seeing this professor. Always puts a smile on everyone face. I couldn't finish the class, I wish I could go back but he is amazing. Definitely recommend.
Definitely recommend taking this class! I loved Professor Bowers and his talks. This class was easy to show up to and I looked forward to it. It is not your usual literature class and there are only three essays. Bowers lets you submit them up until the semester ends and he gives extra credit. He lets you revise papers, no final or textbook.
Mr. Bowers is awesome! He's very chill and gives great feedback on essays when you see him in office hours. Great guy who's always nice and respectful. Can't wait for his class next semester!
Prof. Bowers rocks and I will miss him next semester. His snarky comments aren't for everyone, but I sure enjoyed them. Very enjoyable class with a pretty light work load. Just read the stories and poems carefully. The works he chooses are very interesting, but due to the lack of students reading, discussion was often lacking. He is easy to reach.
I did not enjoy Mr. Bowers, or his teaching style. It wasn't for me.
Professor Bowers may just be one of the best teachers at Santa Fe college. His class consists of a few Essays (All due at the end of the semester), and roughly 10 quizzes. He does assign a lot of reading, but I have never felt overwhelmed. He takes the time to sit down with you and go over papers/other grades. Funniest teacher I have ever had.
Bowers is incredible! Amazing prof who knows a lot about everything. Not your usual 1101/1102 class but bc of that I recommend it to everyone. Weekly readings (interesting), 10 quizzes total (not all are given), 3 essays able to be revised until their due date (end of semest) Overall, Bowers is chatty+hilarious, you won't dread showing up! No final
Mr. Bowers is amazing! Very energetic never dull moment in his class. A little scattered at times but definitely delivers. Genuinely cares about students who are serious in passing his class. If you don't put in effort then expect to fail. But as long as your trying your best he will do what he can to help! I love this guy!
He Talks More About Himself The Whole Semester And Then , It's Time To Be Serious. Class Time is Mandatory But We Never Get To The Actual lesson That We Came For Unless its A Quiz. He's All Over The Place And Always Late. Grades Very Hard .
Professor Bowers is probably the only English teacher i could stay awake for. He gives comedic relief to his class in order to grab their attention. All in all, he has 4 Major Assignments he wants done and has little point assignments to assist with that. I promise he wont let you fall unless you don't put forth the effort !
Probably the worst teacher I have ever took in my life! If you want to try to talk to him through email, good luck on that. He only takes about films and nothing else basically wasting over $300 you paid for that class. His is always late for class (about 15 minutes). Just save your money and dont take this Professor or what ever he calls himself.
Talks about films and thats it, basically wasting your time and money. Always late every day. Dont bother emailing him, he never answers. I felt like I wasted money, did not learn anything. Hes a tough grader also.
Great teacher, loved the way every class was a new adventure.
Great teacher, Every class was a new adventure. He has a way of always keeping the class incaged even at 8am.
Good luck getting an email back from him. Lacks focus and will ramble about random topics for the entire class. Honestly cant say I learned much the entire semester.
Hes funny and seems like a chill teacher in the beginning. But after a few weeks his laziness is unreal. Hes always late to class, never answers his emails, and his grading system makes absolutely no sense at all. He also grades everything last minute and makes excuses for everything. I learned just about nothing...
Dont take him! Save your money, I didnt learn a thing in that class. He does everything last minute, cant get a hold of, gets off topic every time, and only talks about film. He said hes doing something new this year and throw way all of his papers/ notes last year, he should of kept it, maybe we would of learned something
Bowers is by far one of the best instructors at Santa Fe. Never a dull moment in his class he is always filled with energy to fuel his humorous lectures. If you fail his class it is literally because you procrastinated or just straight up lazy. He is always there for his students and goes above and beyond the call of duty.
Prof. Bowers was always unorganized, he literally lost my assignments twice and I had to re-send them. He gives a bunch of small assignments and then they are worth almost nothing in the end. He never grades anything unless you ask him. And he is hard to contact when he finally does answer your emails he quotes you and mocks your question. He's OK
Professor Bowers is not your typical English teacher, he is actually the opposite to what you expect from an English professor, and I mean that as a compliment. Never a dull moment in his conferences, he brought the class alive through humorous remarks. Few and easy assignments, 3 major essays with plenty of time and he will give you feed back .
This professor dipped well into his own personal time to make sure his students succeeded. There is no reason not to get an 'A' or 'B'. Just suck it up, write the 4 papers, get his feedback, and revise your papers with said feedback. His instructions are lengthy so if you don't understand he is happy to help. There is not a lot of side work.
He doesn't grade any papers till the very end of the semester which makes it difficult. He is not accessible easily and his assignments are not interesting at all and require a lot of work.
he doesnt grade until you turn them in and if you cheat you fail i didnt read any instructions and he acted like i was unprepared ?but when i ask for help after the simester ended he was gone cost me money, only take if expect college comp
Do not expect to get grades fast. Do not expect quick responses. Get ready to ask for help because instructions arent that clear.
he has 10 online office hours a week with appointments and open zoom forums but i would rather pout here lol i also order ubers, don't meet for pickup, and then leave neg reviews of the ride
Instructions to assignments are very unclear & confusing! and he grades everything literally the last week of class so your grade can go from an A to a C or D in the blink of an eye but other than that he seemed like a pretty cool teacher
Absolutely awful instructions for the paper and unclear as well he goes off topic in a blink of a second dont take trust me waste of time
Prof. Bowers will not respond to any of the emails you send him, good luck getting in contact with him if you have an questions. Email a few times during the month and you may get a response. His essays have terrible descriptions and do not give clear instructions at all. He spent more time talking about what he enjoys vs. teaching the actual class
You have to complete 4 different papers to which are back to back and he doesn't grade them until the last minute, and give you no time to complete the revision. He gives no feedback on rough drafts at all! says your rough draft has to be of adequate length but doesn't tell you what is adequate. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
Bowers waits until the last minute to grade papers (Literally didn't see my grade on the first paper until the end of semester) so there's almost no chance to submit the revisions to get a better grade. does not read rough drafts only checks for length, there is no feedback at all on papers and he's also harsh on his grading. Stay away
I received the grades of my papers after the whole semester. He is a tough grader, and it is so hard to understand the assignment. You will also have to wait a loooong time to receive his email reply. Don't take his class, TRUST ME!!
Professor Bowers is an excellent and caring instructor. I took him last semester and, despite juggling several classes (and dozens of students), he made himself available for one-on-one meetings every weekday. The end of the semester was condensed due to COVID and family emergencies, which is understandable. I highly recommend taking his class!
Worst professor I've had! Essay instructions are very unclear. Whole semester I had an "A" until he decided to grade essays a day before class ended which cause everyone to fail. At the beginning he seemed pretty cool & talked about what he liked rather than teaching us. DON'T waste your money, RUN!
Replies to my emails 1-2 months later. He DID NOT grade my major essays till the very last day of the semester. I had only 1 day left to write up correctional essays when I should have had weeks. The essay topics were not good, all were about fast food. Goes off topic in class too often and assumes everyone is politically on the same page.
Don't take this professor. His instructions are awful, he doesn't grade anything, and he is a real jerk. There are much better ENC options at Sante Fe.
An okay guy but a bad teacher. He pushes his personal stances heavily onto the topics you write about in class(politics/religion/race). He is self described as petty and can be disorganized and immature. Allows his personal life to interfere with professional. Is a tough/petty grader. Also gives unclear instructions. Would not recommend.
Amazing teacher, got the point across every single lecture and all notes were online so if you miss something, you could easily go back and find it. He always offers help on major assignments and the feedback is always very thought out and really helpful. 10/10 I would definitely take again.
Bowers is literally awesome. He may get off-topic sometimes, but he's hilarious. Never had a better teacher- ever!
Professor Bowers is a good professor to get you started in college. As long as you show up to class, go to office hours, and show that you care, he will help you out A LOT! He is very goofy and gets off-topic, but it makes class even more fun. He's also very straightforward and provides lots of instructions on every assignment.
He is super chill and passionate about random things which he integrates into class assignments. If you're vaguely interested in what he likes to talk about, you'll probably like him a lot. As far as I could tell, he wants his students to succeed and is very helpful and available outside of class. Grading is odd though.
Not hard but waits to grade everything at the end, completely ghosted all his students after he stated that he would be available for help during finals week
Give him a chance and DON'T skip class. I was going through some personal issues and although I attended class, my grades were in the gutter. Instead of receiving a failing grade, I received a passing grade when grades posted. I never got to say Thank You but it's been 5-6 years, No professor has ever done that for me. He cares about his students.
Was a great teacher and his classes were interesting and fun depending on what we talked about. He mostly gave short quizzes that were easy if you read the assigned readings, he also just gave four major essays that weren't that difficult. Just pay attention and attend class and you should be good.
Don't do it.
Great Professor. Pretty ADHD, but it's alright in a good way. 4 Pretty simple papers. VERY accessible inside and outside of class. Willing to stay late into the afternoon if you need. You don't NEED the textbook, but it will help with the quizzes, etc. Not terribly strict on attendance, but don't miss too many classes.
As long as you do the quizzes & essays, you can get an A-B. When it comes to his lectures, they are extremely hard to follow. He rambles about things that have nothing to do with the assignments & gets off topic a lot. Go to his office hours once a week to get a clear idea of what's due, when it's due & what the criteria is for the assignments.
Really fun and passionate professor. He gives out some essays and some assignments, but it's not too hard. He takes forever to grade the essays though. Like until the end of the semester.
Just do the work and show up to class, and if you have a problem with that then u shouldn't be in college. Great teacher, very funny, and a reasonable amount of papers for being a writing intensive course.
Do not take Bowers' if you expect to actually learn about English. He rambles on through every lecture and barely gets to the point. His quizzes are stupid and useless and don't have anything to do with what we're learning. He cannot stay on topic to save his life. Do yourself a favor and don't take this unless its mandatory.
His grading is so weird, and even if you do what the assignment asks you to do, he will still take points off. Tried sending to emails to him or help and he still has not responded. I have also talked to him in class, he told me to email him and he never responded, like what
Professor is a bit quirky but engaging. Essays and quizzes are straightforward if you keep up with readings. unstuck study and ChatGPT were helpful for study prep. Grading can be slow but office hours are useful.
i have not gained any knowledge on how to further my writing skills, teacher just rambles around nonsense all class and expects to write essays with no guidance. i strongly recommend not to take this professor.
Bowers is a funny guy, very ADHD but in a fun way. He has 4 papers in the year, all pretty easy with little structure. He is very forward with his blue political stance but it never impacts grading. If you like fast food, take him (he talks about it a lot, and papers are based around it!). Only downside is he takes FOREVER to grade things.
The class is what you make it. If the majority of students are not engaged, then he will not be engaged with the class. He has tons of interest and loves to talk. I do recommend seeing him at office hours as he is incredible to talk with.
Professor Bowers is someone that will not grade your papers until the last day of grading, literally. You will not know your grade until the last possible day of grading. He told us that we could revise the essays, but if he grades them by the end of the semester, how are we supposed to do that? Something positive about him? He is very funny.
Useless crazy lectures (more of a theater performance). Graded my assignments on the last day. The revisions I worked with him during 10 office hours were not graded at all even though he said he would. Tells you not to worry about getting an A, just to give you a B+ at the end and ruin your 4.0 GPA. One of the most two-faced professors of my life.
If you need to learn how to write or expect feedback don't take this class. I currently have 4 days left in the semester and just got the grade back for my first essay out of four. His lectures are half about politics and the other half are about fallacies that he takes weeks to teach. This class is more about ranting than writing. Dont take!!!!!!!
Honestly, the class wasn't bad. He was fun and lighthearted in every class. Some things about him are that he never grades anything until the last second, and if you ask him to regrade something, it's the slimmest chance that he will. Essays are a pain because he hardly gives any feedback. If something has to be reopened, it most likely won't be.
The class itself was easy and laid out simply: read the articles, take the quiz, read the chapter, take the quiz. The only difficult part I had was time management with my other classes, he gives a bit of work. Attendance matters! He dislikes electronic use while he's lecturing. He provides lab days to get things done. Do the assignments for easy A
Honestly the papers feel kind of rushed, he doesn't necessarily go over the material a lot, its kind of a do yourself type of thing. He is nice and funny though, I go to lab days, and talk to him about ideas and my paper, so he is helpful if you go to him. I'm not sure if I'd take him again because he doesn't teach much but it's an easy class.
Bowers was very nice and the class was really easy tbh, his essays were never more than 3 pages. If you go to office hours and get him to revise essays you'll easily leave this class with a high A. Anyone who failed this class simply wasn't trying, he doesn't ask for much.
William Bowers once wrote a fabulous essay "All We Read is Freaks"published in the Oxford American. Google it. He loves language. I reread it recently and wondered what Bowers thinks of the new generation of "destimulated' students who rely on AI to spit out their essays in 20 seconds and whose lives are one big tapestry of nothingness.
Be prepared to know what this guy stands for politically by the first class. Every class he takes a jab at the side hes against. It gets old very fast. He also doesn't grade a single assignment until after the last class for the semester so revising anything is impossible.
