he is a kind of professor that if you study you get good grades and make sure you dont be shy to ask question!
Awesome prof!!! He really tries to find ways to help the students understand the material that he is teaching. He has a good sense of humor and will pick on students, but it's not in a cruel way. Go to lecture, read the text, and don't skip out when there is an interactive learning day and you'll be fine.
he's a good teacher. actually cares about students I took bio 1500 with Dr. Kashian too. branford will help you more and send out emails and make sure everyone gets the same info. he wants you to get a good grade in the class! he's really funny too good sense of humor. lecture isnt mandatory but it's funn and youll enjoy going :D good luckk!!
Very nice guy, always willing to help, trys to help you get the best grade possible. Any one who needs the required lab book for bio 1500 lab, called Biological Investigations by Warren Dolphin. Perfect condition! No torn out pages or highlighting &the CD please feel free to email me at [email protected], I will sell for less than the bookstore price
great professor, always ready to help, anytime. knows very well what he is teaching. have sense of humor.
This class is NOT EASY! It's designed to weed out all the children that don't have a passion for Biology. However, Branford is a great teacher! A tad dry and boring at times, but he really tries hard for everyone to do great in the class! I definitely recommend him!
On top of studying the powerpoint slides, be sure to do the old practice exams and quizzes. Understand every answer choice. If you don't, get help right away! He is really willing to explain concepts or draw pictures in office hours. Don't fall into the trap of studying the day of the exam. His grading is fair, and yes, there's extra credit.
Among the best BIO faculties at WSU. You'll understand everything because he is crystal clear in his explanation and is ready to explain it until you get the concept. It does help to read the book because you can understand the slides better. Announced quizzes and exams(not cumulative), uses chalk board in class, lecture will benefit. Grt elective.
Writes good tests, but my good is prob other's difficult.
He did part 2 of our bio 1500 class and I happened to like him better than Kashian. Branford goes out of his way to clarify and simplify what we are learning and helps you foucs on what you really need to know. Very nice guy too!
dont have to go to class, the exams are straightforward right off of his slides. He gives you a study guide and charts as well as an exam outline of the topics and even puts together all the slides and does his absolute best to help you pass!
Excellent biology professor! Was very generous to assist with exam preparations with charts, exam outline, and pared-down slides to really help you focus your study. It was with his help, and a lot of hard work on my end that caused me to get an A- after getting a D+ with a different professor before. I hope to take him again in future bio classes!
Great professor. Lectures are straight forward and attendance is not required. Posts outlines of every exam. Study the powerpoints and you will do well.
His exams are very hard and he asks about the small details. Although he posts study guides, he still asks about things that are not in the PowerPoint.
This Prof is NOT easy at all. Bio1500 is a hard class and he makes it even harder. He asks about the very small details and highly depend on memorization. He is definitely a tough grader. I am an Honors student and bio major and this prof was super hard for me. If you take him make sure you read the book, memorize the slides & form study group.
Very clear teacher on all the exams. He posts powerpoint study guide and test outlines to get a glimpse of what you will be tested on. There is a ton of material to learn in the semester, be sure to study early and you should've no problem in doing well. Tests questions do sometimes get in-depth, so be ready to think critically.
One of the best bio professors. Dr. Branford is very clear in his lectures. Everything in his tests are covered in his slides and lecture. He gives you very helpful review slides and test outlines. Offers extra credit questions on mosts tests. Tests are difficult, but material is straight forward. DONT BUY BOOK.
Dr. Branford made BIO1500 completely bearable. So many people told me it was insanely hard, but honestly if you put in the work you'll be fine. Branford's tests can be difficult only because there is just so much material to study for, but if you memorize the slides you'll be fine; questions are taken straight off the slides.
Took him for Cell Biology in the Spring. The class is not easy whatsoever but I received an A because he is such a great professor. I only attended 2 classes. I listened to the lectures online. Majority of his questions come from old exams, practice questions he gives you, and quizzes he posts online for practice. Study those and you'll get an A
I took BIO 1500 in the Winter of 2016 and just finished taking the Cell Bio class he offered in the spring. Both are challenging, but Dr. Branford helped so much! He's a great teacher, and does a lot for his students! A lot of the exams are just based on the lectures he posts! No Hw. Try your best, do your part in studying, and you should be fine
Great teacher, knows what he's talking about. An A is easy if you're ready to read a lot of material all of which is powerpoints. He does give out study guides and quick outlines of up coming exams. Just study the powerpoints and you'll be okay.
Honestly the most boring lecturer I've ever had. Felt like I was falling asleep in almost every day and it felt like he didn't care if we passed or not. I was listening to an EchoCenter recording of one of the lectures and you could hear him talking before the class started to another professor about how he didn't even want to teach this class.
Branford was extremely boring and monotonous making it very hard to pay attention during lectures. Your only grades all year will be the exams, and you have to be very very very well prepared to even pass.
He is an okay professor. Funny from time to time when he isn't tired. Very monotoned but has this dry humor that makes up for everything. His exams are okay, I personally do enjoy taking them because they are so funny. For a basic bio class, study and get that A. Probably will be the easiest bio class you will take and he gives out a lot of EC.
Dr. Brandford's whole tests either come from previous exams, end of the chapter book questions or the slides. If you memorize the powerpoints and take a stab at the questions he posts its not hard to get an A. While lecture isn't mandatory, some questions come straight from lecture so going or listening to Echocenter will be helpful.
If you keep up with this class, and have a solid study plan, the class and exams are fair and getting a good grade shouldn't be impossible. Dr. Branford is very reasonable. Also make sure you take the first lab practical very seriously and try to track everything that is learned in lab every week since a good grade in lab makes a huge difference.
Dr branford is a really sweet guy but his exams are horrible ! I tried every studied technique and still didn't feel prepared for his exams. His lectures were so boring and didn't feel the need to go to lecture due to him reading off the slides. I also heard he didn't even want to teach BIO 1500.
Very easy class because of how he teaches it. You have to go to lecture because he'll include test questions like "True or false, I've worn shorts this semester to lecture". It's super easy. Anyone who says it's hard is a freshman who hasn't learned how to study yet, honestly. I whizzed through lab and lecture.
Dr. Branford is incredibly generous with study materials. He gives breakdowns of what to study for exams and gives exam outlines detailing how many questions will be on which topic. Study the slides, the book isn't necessary. I only attended one lecture and were it not for inadequately prepping for the lab practicals, I would've gotten an A easy.
He is not the most respectful or nicest guy to be honest. He is a fair professor however. His questions come directly from his slides and a lot of the questions come directly from the back of the book or his old exams. He also gives a decent amount of extra credit.
Branfords a straight to the point type of guy. This class covers a lot of material but there arent really any surprises about whats on exams because hell tell you what you need to be studying. His study guides are gold. I would take him again.
He gets very sassy and uptight at times and has a bad attitude. Also, cell bio is very hard. He used test banks a little bit for tests 1 and 2 but surprised us for test 3 and didn't use them. Also, the questions are extremely difficult questions that have to do with advanced biological research. He doesn't know the answer to most student questions.
He can be very uptight and rude, as others have said. Tests are difficult and questions are very advanced,20 page test banks useless. He also decided to not grade the extra credit homework many of us are depending on to help us pass, because he decided we didn't care. Complains and talks the whole time you're taking his tests. Horrible experience.
Very disorganized and terrible at teaching. He takes weeks just to grade a multiple choice exam and posts study resources at the last minute. He's very grumpy and has a bad attitude recently, especially during the exam, where he talks and complains the whole time, distracting everyone. He also has stopped using test banks this semester. Terrible.
The questions on the exams are very difficult and advanced. He doesn't even teach anything, which is why lecture is always over half empty. All the questions have to do with advanced experiments conducted by pH.D biologists. Also, he won't' shut up during the exam and whining about the class "not caring enough."
He doesn't teach the class AT ALL. Be ready to rely 100% on your book and not him. He doesn't know how to change his style either. Maybe showing slides works for 1510 and easier biology classes, but not upper-level classes. He doesn't teach you how to apply to knowledge that you learn, even though the class is all application. He also whines.
He gives you everything you need to know. I think people just haven't figured out the best way to do well in the class. If you know the slides perfectly, watch videos to supplement and go through all the banks and old exams he hands out, its the key to doing well. Cell bio is tough, but at least he cuts down on irrelevant topics which helps a lot.
Dr. Branford is a very generous professor, he provides test bank questions, slide study guides, and exam outlines for each exam. I would recommend reading the textbook before each lecture to maximize your intake from the lectures, but just showing up and listening to him will work too. Would not recommend cramming at all, it's a lot of information.
Worst professor at Wayne. He gave 1 hw assignment after the whole class begged him since 39% of the class is failing, and he took until the end of the semester to grade it, and just emailed everyone saying to not email him because "I don't have time for this, I have final grades to deal with" even though it's his job. He complains/whines 24/7
Very rude professor. Talks during the exams nonstop, he even joked about it and made an obnoxiously loud "beeping" sound right into the mic during our final. Only gave one out of three EC homeworks, when almost half of the class was failing. Difficult tests with questions all about experiments. Sent us a long email complaining basically to end term
I had Dr. Branford for both BIO1500 and BIO2600 and for both courses he was the most straight forward professor I had. Whatever was on the lecture slides is what was on the exam unless he told you read a section he was not teaching, however this was very rare. His class comes with hard work, but what do you expect with bio.
Dr. Branford provides plenty of resources for studying. However, his lectures are very fast, confusing, and monotone. Skipping lecture and using that time to read the book and answer questions on my own became more useful. He ruined my interest in bio sadly, would not recommend his class.
TERRIBLE. He just sent us 4 emails at the end of the semester complaining. He promised to curve our grade at the end of class but changed his mind. He literally stated in the email "you don't always get what you want in life" & "sometimes your best isn't enough." LITERALLY WORD FOR WORD. He is also very unorganized, rude, and his tests became HARD!
Just REALLY know the slides like the back of your hand and study the materials he posts on blackboard and you will be fine.
He gives you so many resources to do well, to the point where I felt no need to even show up for lecture. His voice was just so boring that I couldn't focus. He gives old exams, practice problems, some homework, and excellent composite slides and outlines for exams. Extra questions on some exams and he drops tough questions that most people missed.
Dr. Branford gives you a ton of study resources for exams and doesn't require attendance. Lectures are helpful and you don't need to read the book unless he specifically tells you to read a section. Final exam is easy and you can drop your lowest exam. Take with him.
It's hard to come by a professor like Dr. Branford. He is so knowledgeable, makes the hardest concepts easily digestible, no student is shy from asking him a question in class, and he'll answer it in length. He cares a lot about his students, and offers so much extra credit, there's no excuse to get a bad grade. I will miss Dr. Branford, so long.
He doesn't really teach or explain much, just reads off the lecture slides. His exams are difficult so make sure you memorize everything.
Dr. Branford gets a bad rep because people simply don't listen to what he says; he literally informs you where his exam questions are from. If you study and memorize the questions from the sources he gives you, it is a guaranteed A. In addition, he's a cool guy and very approachable.
Don't listen to everyone else commenting that he's good. He's a terrible professor. His voice is so monotone, every lecture is boring. He basically tells you to skip the class. His exams are on the smallest details that make no sense in terms of the lectures. Be prepared for a lot of "real world application questions." Freshmen, run.
One of the worst professors at Wayne. His tests are very hard.
Dr. Branford is a really nice guy. He posts study guides which is all you need to study for the exams. Exams are easy.
If you memorize the slides you will get an A on the exam
Read the slides!
Boring class, but you don't have to go to pass. Four exams, and optional final to drop lowest exam score. The final is previous questions from the term, and he posts the old exams and answers. It's a lot to memorize, but if you know the slides, you will ace the exams. He throws in some random questions just from lecture sometimes though
Dr. Brandford is a straight forward professor and a casual guy overall. I would recommend reading the book along with the slides to give a better context of the information. If you want to excel, at least listen to lectures online. Also, take the practice test from the supplemental instructor because he recycles questions.
Taking Bio 1500 with Dr. Bradford was no joke as taking other bio courses but he made it pretty manageable with how the course was laid out; he is a genuinely good guy and pretty approachable as well. I would say Dr. Bradford as well as the other professors in Wayne state has prepared me to be successful in whatever career I choose to do!
Dr. Brandford is amazing! He goes way and beyond the scope of the course which is actually amazing, he adds extra bits of information that I found crucial in understanding the concepts that the book did not specify specifically. And he is funny and also just an amazing person!
By far the most annoying lecture class ive ever taken. Dont get me wrong, its really easy but the man is so boring. I had crawl out of bed and go to the 9:30 am lecture to fall asleep again. His voice is so monotone. If you have trouble sleeping at night, i highly recommend putting on one of his lectures. Youll sleep like a rock.
Lectures are very dry. He reused lectures from last year and told us to rewatch and learn from them. Tests are very hard because you have no idea what he is going to ask about. Does Q and As for students but they are not helpful. Reading the book is not helpful because of the in-depth details.
Branford teaches the plant section of 1500 and his section is okay. Overall if you study the content and the slides you should do pretty well on the test. The tests are similar to the practice tests so i highly recommend doing those. One last thing his test answers can be very tricky and youll need to do a lot of critical thinking. Overall 7/10.
I wouldnt say I hated taking bio 1500 from Dr. Brandford but lets say I regret taking bio 1500; I think the part where he somewhat broke down in the lecture where we talked about plants anatomy was somewhat indicative to why I dropped course. I did write a review (last winter), but I dont think it has any truth to it, in terms of how I fe
I had Dr Branford for an online BIO 2600 and I would never do it again. His tests are absolutely awful. You can study his lectures, read the book, and review past exams and you will still suffer through the exams. He did not offer any extra credit, and did not to take into consideration that we are in a middle of a pandemic.
To put it lightly, this professor was an absolute horrible person during the fall 2020 COVID semester. He decided that this was the best semester to make exams closed note (they were all previously open note) and make us memorize 300+ slides for a single exam. Not only that, but his exams are nothing like the slides or the book. F him
Not sure why a lot of people are giving Branford negative reviews. Don't listen to them, he is not as bad as people are making him sound. As long as you re-watch the lectures (2x speed) and study the slides you'll be fine. Tells you almost all that you need to know in the slide study guides that he makes for 3 of the 5 exams, the rest are Dowling's
I found his style of teaching very clear and easy to understand, I never used the textbook because all the info was covered in lectures. He gives out a slide study guide, test outline, and even sometimes previous exams for help before each exam. I had the class split with another professor but found Branford's section to be somewhat easier.
Easy money. I'm not even trying to be funny in relation to how easy this guy makes his class. 4 exams and the final replaces the lowest one. NO BOOK. This is how to pass... memorize his slides.. it will take you like 3 days of actual studying and you'll walk into a 50 question test and finish it in 30 min. Anyone who fails is living a sad life :/
Hes an OG
Branford is a very straight foreword teacher. I did not use the book the entire semester. I just watched each lecture twice and took notes on the lectures and received an A on each exam. There are five exams total and the lowest exam score gets dropped. His lectures were very helpful (just watch them in 2x speed) I would definitely take him again.
Dr. Branford is known to be the most lenient cell bio professor on campus. This is the 2nd hardest bio class at wayne state, but he is known to make it straightforward.
Lucky you if you get him for cell bio. I had a different professor for cell biology whose exams were difficult and my grade suffered. I took him for a very boring class (BIO 1500) which I barely studied for and still managed a B.
Very boring class. Exams are somewhat difficult, make sure to review old exams. Quizlet helps a ton.
Dr. Branford is a fantastic professor. His lectures are interesting and he really makes the material easy to understand. If you take his class, go to the lectures! You will set yourself up for success if you go to class and pay attention as you can learn some of the things not mentioned in the slides. His exams are all straightforward.
He's one of the best profs Ive had the honors to take. Hes willing to help if you ask for help. His lectures arent the most interesting but you can always go back and watch the recordings and take notes. Attend the class to establish a relationship w him, he's nice. Also attend bc he'd go over questions that help in the exam. He curves generously.
Class based solely on exams. He was very rude when going over the right answers for a test. Our class average for the exams for both branford & dowling were Ds. Hes very discouraging towards pre-meds & makes students feel like theyre dumb for not completely understating something he has a PhD in.
Has no teatching skills. Reads off his many slides without conveying the material. Shouldn't be teaching this class or any class. Wants you to fail. Do not care about students. Do not recommend anyone take his class.
When I took the course it was split between Branford and another Professor. The class has 5 exams, each exam worth 25% of your grade and the worst grade gets dropped. That's it. AKA if you miss or mess up one exam you're screwed. IDK maybe I caught him on a bad day or something but he was very rude and resistant when I asked for help.
The lectures didn't help me. I had to study on my own. The tests are easier than expected; you just need to memorize the slides and you will be in good shape.
Dr. Branford has a good sense of humor and is a solid lecturer. I recommend spending a lot of time with his slides and making notecards about the concepts (or doing whatever you can to understand and not just memorize the material). Try to visualize concepts. Go to S.I. sessions. If he says to watch a video or read some text, do it. He's smart.
he is a silly guy, he gives out stickers for answering questions right. he isn't a bad teacher, some test questions are tricky but overall just go to class and rewatch lectures you'll be fine. he can be pretty funny sometimes lol.
He is so nice and responsive to the questions of students! You are lucky if you have him for cell bio (BIO2600) or BIO 1500. He is the GOAT
This guy has some problems. I cannot believe that he (somewhat) broke down during a lecture.
Compared to others, Branford is pretty good for this course. He tries to engage and add some humour to the course. Cons would be he almost reads off the slide with little extra info sometimes. Exams are fair and the final was easy since it was questions based on previous exams with or without modifications. If you have the choice, take it with him.
I took Dr. Bradford for BIO 1500 and I'll say he was the best bio professor I've ever had! You just have to make sure you read your textbook if you want a deeper meaning but the Echo360 recording helped a lot because it showcases the slides and audios and his exams are based off the slides and old exam questions. Also, the quizzes are on canvas !
Easy class. Nothing else to say. Don't read textbook or rewatch lectures (massive waste of time). Just memorize slides, old exams, and quizzes. That's it. Standard 1000-level class. But premeds don't know how to study. Great guy too (monotonous and lacks any charm though). Anyone who gets less than an A+ in this class is living a sad life.
