His class was the biggest waste of time. Honestly I'm not sure whether hes just super intimidated by students or just doesn't know the material....all my notes were taken from the book not his lame lectures.
One of the worst professors I've had ever. His explanations are more confusing than the text (and he lifts them directly from the text) and he seems to run around in circles with his lectures. The book and my buddy were the only saving graces in this incomprehensible class.
All of his lectures were lifted directly from the text; there was no real constructive elaboration or illustration to aid students. I had to self-teach and only managed to get through it by attending every class.
Go to class just so you know what he will be quizzing on the book. You must buy the book for this class or you will fail. Doesn't give out extra credit or curves grades which is ridiculus considering he doesn't know the material either. I had a 93% which was the highest in the class and he still gave me an A-.
This is English comprehension on steroids
always ready to help
If I was william brunson writing a review about myself it would look like this: "Hor. teach. abrv. evrythg. D&M & extrmly boring." D&M means disorganized and messy.
Horrible. Never properly prepared. Looses control of the class. Does a poor job of explaining the text to the class. His tests are put together poorly. I don't think he has a rubric for grading the homework or tests. Even after the whole class begged him he will not grade on a curve. Horrible professor & a gpa wrecker.
Makes sense of the textbook plus is helpful about make-up work.
I took him in the summer and i thought he was a great teacher. The class was hard and he would always make time to meet with students. He would also go over things over and over when we asked for it.
At first, I was kind of intimidated by this classes, but after seeing how he taught, I relaxed completely. He loves to teach it seems and does a great job at it. He really wants to help and will always go over any information that you don't understand. Always willing to help anytime. He will e-mail you back quickly and explain things clearly.
He's a great teacher.Evry time helpfull and very cool! I like him he's the best teacher in the world!
WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD!! He rambles constantly and contradicts himself. Many of us thought he was a bit...crazy. The class is easy, but he is annoying and a loon.
He is an awesome guy he is very helpful and he cares about you unlike some other teachers. He will do his best to make sure you get a good grade you just have to put in the effort. Philosophy can be hard at times but if you don't understand in class read the book and you will be fine.
BEST TEACHER, VERY HELPFUL!
He makes very interesting classes and has a nice voice and is very cool!
He's a damn good Professor. One day in one of his classes and you know EVERYTHING that he has been teaching.
he is so so nice. totally helpful, loves teaching and loves his students.
I hate this subject but this guy made if bearable. He's aware most students don't want to take this class and adjusts to that. This is an easy A and you might even learn a little about reasoning.
You wont find an easier more likeable Critical Thinking professor than professor Brunson. Reading the textbook helps, but he really makes sense of it in class. Most people should be able to easy through this class.
he was confusing most of the time but if you read the textbook and pay attention to the prep for quiz it's exactly the same as the actual quiz just with different passages.
Such a nice man and teacher. He wants to see his students succeed and will show 100% interest in you. subject is tough, but as a professor he is wonderful!
A very good teacher. I recomend taking him for Philosophy you really learn a lot about conflict. He can be kinda odd sometimes but he is very helpful. You will need your book for assignments A LOT. and his lectures will be enough for you to know whats going on.
Worst professer I have ever had. Doesn't make sense half the time. He doesn't seem to know what he is teaching and spends half of his time running from white board to white board. I went everyday and still had no idea what was going on.
Funny class and homework and test review+webcampus can make sure to get A for you. i work really hard in this class ending with B, pretty fair, take him!
I loved the class, not for the subject, but for how genuinely interested he was in teaching. Attendance wasn't mandatory, but I'd suggest going every day in order to keep up with the material. You don't need to read the book, but it is needed for the homework assignments.
One of the best Professors I've ever had, easy to understand and a very friendly person. He helped me find my Blackberry when I lost it, and Taylor Swift was calling. ;-)
He was a good teacher as long as you do the homework you should be fine.
I will admitt the subject is really hard and confusing. But he lOVES his students and loves teaching. If you go to his office hours and ask for help, he'll be there with you 120%. He is such a nice guy! One of my best professors at UNLV and will definitely be memorable. Take him, class can be hard and lots of hw at times, but you'll learn something
I will admit, the subject is hard and confusing. But he loves teaching and he loves helping out his students. Just go to his office hours and he'll help you out 120%. He's very nice and caring. One of the best professors at UNLV and will definitely be memorable. The subject is hard but better than taking a easy prof and learning NOTHING.
Very unorganized and very confusing. He uses techniques and abbreviations that only he can understand. He moves quickly and expects you to know everything before he throws another load on top! A big no-no.
Brunson is quite the character and can go off on a tangent sometimes. He's nice and outgoing. His textbook of choice is unclear though and the class goes off the text. Sometimes the text can confuse you. Just try to pay attention even though the subject can be tedious sometimes and study for the quizzes. Not an easy course for a Philosophy class.
My FAVORITE teacher for sure . kinda a hard subject but he makes it easy . you dont hav to go to class , but if u do go... hes very linient on the students nd grades assignments really easyyy ! loves to help anyone if you dont undertand nd will go out of his way . if you do bad on something hell let u re do it for a higher grade . AWESOMEE TEACHER
Pretty awesome dude
Great professor! Very funny. Difficult subject, but it's enjoyable. Not much work.
Has no lesson plans, his "notes" are scribbles on paper that he can't keep centered on the projector, and he has no control over the volume of his voice. He will start speaking lower then shout random words. Also has to keep checking his notes, contradicts himself and the book, and gets examples backwards frequently. DO NOT TAKE.
Excellent instructor, he's genuinely good at teaching a subject that could be hard for some. Great at explaining things. You should use the book, a lot of people think it's difficult to read but I think they lack effective reading skills. Only thing is he tends to teach to the lowest common denominator, which could be a good thing for some people.
Nice guy but I can see how people think his class is hard. He's all over the place with his notes and thoughts. His class, however, is very easy. You review for the exams the class before they're given. Homework comes straight from the textbook and he gives you homework help online. You'll get an A if you do the homework and go to exam review days.
Brunson is not a strict professor. Students talked in class the whole semester and he never cared. His lectures can be all over the place and confusing but if you go to class, do the homework from the book and go to his office hours, he will explain the processes better. The final really wasn't hard
I actually enjoyed coming to this class. He is random yet humorous, and he tries really hard for his students to understand the material. If you don't understand it, GO to his office hours! He will let you redo any quiz you got a bad grade on, and he will help you get a better grade in the class.
He is really sweet but he kinda overkills on the explanation of topics to the point that you're confused. However, you can re-take homeworks and quizzes so it is really hard to fail.
Philosophy is not a hard class, but it isn't an easy thing to understand, he makes it easier to understand, and if you don't understand you can go to his office hours hes VERY helpful. 4 Quizzes, always gives good study guides, a MIdterm and a final and 4 HW. Lets you redo tests/quizzes. Hes a really nice guy, take him you WILL learn alot.
Great professor. He is not good at explaining sometimes but he tries very hard for everyone to understand. In comparison to other professors, his materials is a little simpler. It's very hard to fail his class because he helps everyone during office hours and he lets you retake quizzes, HW, and tests. He is quite funny as well. Take his class!
He's a wonderful teacher that genuinely wants his students to do well in his class. Take him, he will help you and there's hardly Any homework
Mr. Brunson is a character. The material can be difficult if you over think it; which unfortunately I did. There's hw and quizzes that he lets you correct if you got a bad grade. BUT you have to get everything right on the corrections, otherwise you will not receive credit. He teaches you lots of useful information.
I LOVED this guy, best teacher hands down. Sense of humor and explains it for everyone to get. Let's you redo quizzes. He wants you to pass and understand. He hits the board alot lol and encourages participation. Do the work and don't over think it and you will be get an a/b. I wish I would have taken him for a whole semester instead of summer.
He was a great teacher, excellent sense of humor and very helpful. He lets you retake anything done in his class but it is just easier to get it done the first time around. He is available whenever needed for extra help and he tries his best to explain everything. Great teacher!
He's a nice guy and is very understanding and helpful if you just talk to him. Personally, the class confused me a lot. I really couldn't grasp the concept for some reason. Make sure you always attend lectures and review days. Always do the homework and do the redos for both homework and quizzes if you can. The textbook can be helpful too.
Good professor. Can be confusing material. He wants to make sure you understand though. Office hours help if needed. Many students decide to skip class b/c it's somewhat confusing, but go to each class & you'll get it. For me, book was confusing, so I skipped it & let him explain it in class. You'll need book for homework though; share w/ friend.
He is a great professor he wants nothing more than for you to pass his class. The textbook is only helpful when you need to clarify something he did not go over. If you want a good grade you must go into his office hours!
Professor William is really easy going and helpful, also willing to help students figure out problems. He is the best professor I have ever had.
Great class. Pay attention to video lectures because the test is very similar. Easy grade if you're not careless and miss an exam online.
8 tests every two weeks, worth 10% each (enough to bomb some and a lot to raise your grade). Prof. Brunson will do anything and everything to ensure that you understand each topic. This could be an easy A if you put in moderate effort but not as much effort to the point where you're stressed out. BEST PHIL102 TEACHER!
I can't give him enough credit for being so helpful. His instructions are very clear, every week. He gives tests every few weeks, but you get to do a practice one days leading up to it. I was stuck on the practice test once and he walked me through the entire thing via e-mail. Very helpful. Would take him again if I could.
Very easy class. I would recommend watching his video lectures instead of reading the dreadfully long chapters. His lectures give a great outlook on what exactly the test is going to be. Gives practice tests which is nice so you know what the test is like. The tests are kinda hard, he does have trick questions. Easy class to follow along with.
Took him online! HE IS THE MOST HELPFUL PROFESSOR YOU WILL EVER HAVE! I learned a lot without being stressed all the time like usual college classe! He respects your opinions! BEST UNLV professor! The resources he gives you is so helpful that you don't have to read the book lot but doing examples if you dont understand something is a good idea.
Here's all you need to know about Mr. Brunson: AMAZING TEACHER! If you're required to take this class, get this teacher! I've had other fantastic profs, but Mr. Brunson will almost literally hold your hand through an exam to help you do your best. I found some course material objectionable - he wrote new questions for me. Who does that?!
He is one of those professors that really wants you to succeed. It's not just knowing the subject it's understanding the concepts. He works hard to help you understand the concepts. Gives you opportunity to improve your grade through out the semester. The whole class was a great experience, I would definitely recommend him!
If you have to take this class, take it with Professor Brunson. He is truly an amazing teacher that wants you to succeed and will help you understand the concept. Took the course online which is structured by 11 modules with a hw, discussion, and exam for each module.
I'm not sure how this philosophy class is philosophy. It feels more like an upper level english class. I don't recommend this class at all and I have no idea what I'm learning.
While Brunson is a great professor, this class is horrible. It seems more like an English class than a Philosophy class. No essays, just homework, discussions, and exams for each module. I would recommend taking it with him because he is relatively easy. I can tell you that I have no idea what is actually going on in class.
Although the class was hard for me, I would definitely recommend this professor! He is super fast when it comes to emailing you back about any question you have, and is extremely understanding. Overall, if you need this class for your degree I recommend you take it with him! There is a homework, discussion, and test due within a two week period!
One of the best professors I have had at UNLV. Subject is not hard, it's basic math but with words. Professor Brunson provides extremely useful notes and videos for each module. Easy homework (3 questions), a 200 word discussion, and 25 question test due every 2 weeks. Very relaxed pace and not stressful at all! He is extremely helpful with ?s!
I don't have anything really bad to say about the professor. His class setup was nice, with modules that had homework, discussion questions, practice tests and then actual tests. But the material itself.... WHAT IN THE WORLD? Do not take this class online because it is so confusing. And you will never know what you are doing.
Professor Brunson is amazing! If you put in the effort to show you care about your grade and doing well in the course, then he will too. He is super helpful! The concepts can be difficult to grasp towards the end. BUT if you ask for help along the way, then he is always there to help. Just great!
I took this professor based on the reviews here and I regret it completely. I can't tell you a single thing I learned this semester. He provides notes and is there to help, but the material is very difficult to grasp. Word math, not philosophy. Not a single mention of philosophy except in the class title. Take it on campus, not online.
Not sure why some of the reviews on here think this class was hard. If you can read English and use your brain to think about what you just read then this class should be an easy A. Prof. Brunson couldn't have made this class more easy. Watch videos, read notes, take practice test... Simple! Prof. Brunson is the best instructor. Take him!
He is absolutely amazing professor. Fast on replies and very understanding. Provides lots of explanations if needed. However, the material itself has little to nothing to do with subject of PHILOSOPHY.
His online course is pretty easy. There is one test and one hmwk assignment each week, which are both very easy. Any questions you get wrong in previous tests or practice tests, he emails you right away with a detailed explanation of why the correct answer is what it is. His feedback is exceptional and helps a lot. Make sure to watch his videos.
Pretty easy online class. Two 50 word responses to the material covered that week and every three modules you are given a test (5 total). I didn't buy the book, but it would help on the tests. I only watched the lecture videos and will end up with a B+/A-. Interesting material as well, recommend taking the class :)
I took the online version of this class. You have a weekly homework/discussion to complete. Tests are taken every other week. Pretty simple class, I didn't need a textbook because a summary and test review is given prior to the test. Just read over those and you'll be fine. He does provide extra credit if you got a bad grade on one test.
I took the online class during summer, so I had 5 weeks to complete everything. He uploads the assignments weekly. Each week you have to complete a discussion, a homework, and a test. If you ever fall behind, and reach out to him, he is very helpful and very nice.
Dr. Brunson provides you with everything you need to do well in the class. I didn't really use the textbook (his summaries and videos were sufficient for me), and the class follows the same format throughout the semester. Homework due one week, then a discussion and test due the next week. Knowledgable and very good at explaining things!
Professor Brunson was a fairly easy grader and gives you good feedbacks on your response and tests. There are a total of 8 modules with each of them lasting 2 weeks. Each module has a hw quiz, discussion post, and a module test. I did not use the book, but used his module summaries and videos. Tests can be hard if you don't understand the module.
Prof Brunson was great! I had a really tough time this semester with personal issues, and he made a great effort to allow extensions and help me make up assignments when I missed them. Tests are HARD. Do the practice tests first always. He gives feedback and makes the actual test way easier.
Taking the class was fairly easy because of the easy structure of the homework, discussion, and test every week. Unfortunately I did not grasp the lessons very well, but Brunson is very helpful and responded to emails very quickly. Prof. was great, just did not understand the lessons very well.
loved this class and have to was laid out. each module you complete a homework , discussion and a test. there are 8 modules so about 2 weeks each module. responds to emails so quick and wants you to do your absolute best. phil is sometimes a hard topic but he gives homework hits and practice test to help understand the material.
Clear and concise lecture. Well organized syllabus, material, and announcements. Students must put in the work. He is available and gives great feedback. The class material contains an overview, summary, homework hints, discussions, practice tests, chapter module reading. Focus and concentrate and you will receive an A grade.
I took this online during the summer. I was scared to take it because of my experience with Phil 101 but Dr. Brunson made this class enjoyable and manageable. He provides all the material necessary to prepare you for the tests; as long as you do the work/readings you should get an A. He also responds quickly to emails and is always willing to help!
Dr. Brunson is a cool professor, he gives you two weeks for every module which is just the right amount of time to get it done! The class is formatted very straightforward and he provides all the information you need to get a good grade. The textbook isn't really needed past the first chapter.
Prof. Brunson is very prompt and thorough with his feedback. He sends detailed emails that really help you understand. He always sounds like he wants you to succeed. Take his class!!!
This is by far the most comprehensive and clear online class I have taken at UNLV. Most professors are a hit or miss with organizing their due dates and modules/lessons, but Prof. Brunson has really put the time and effort in to ensure a clear learning environment. He also is very responsive, which is a major plus when considering online proessors.
This class was a typical online class. 3 parts of a module every 2 weeks and that was it. He would keep you posted by posting announcements every week to remind you of the module content that was upcoming. Material was pretty understandable as long as you read before.
Brunson is very nice if you reach out to him. The class has a discussion, homework, and one test a week. You get 2 hours to do each test, use the book to help you you should be fine. Make sure you actually read the book and module, or youll be totally lost. You can do things early or late if you email him, and you get one test retake too!!
Read the book chapters and the material provided to you by the professor and you will do fine. Also if you have any questions or concerns reach out to him and he will help you understand the material. One class discussion, homework and test every two weeks. You even have the option of retaking one test by the end of the semester.
Mr. Brunson is amazing. Ive been having a hard time with the class and hes always willing to explain, replies to my emails right away and has always made himself available to help me out to not only have a better grade but to understand the material. A+ instructor.
I would recommend this professor to anyone who is looking to take a phil class! His class is very well laid out with there being one quiz, discussion post, and small assignment every two weeks. As long as you read the textbook and pay attention to the readings you will be okay.
I absolutely loved this class! He was a great professor that really wanted his students to succeed. May he rest in peace.
Professor Brunson passed away towards the end of the semester which was really sad but overall he was an amazing teacher . The class consisted of a lot of challenging exams but really everyone had two weeks to study so it was really up to you to practice .
