very hipacritical and you pay the price for it. might be ok in a small classroom settng but in a lec hall, terrible.
great professor, knows who doesn't come to class so watch out. makes topics interesting, jokes a lot, is approachable and asks how you like the book you're reading. *money back guarantee if not satisfied with the class!!
This guy is totally out of the loop. He is not straight forward and has to explain one simple thing for 30 minutes. You only get 3 grades for the class so be careful. Your pillow will need a pillow, because his lectures are soooooooooo boring!
Great understanding of urban society. I would recommend this comical and helpful teacher to anyone!!
Had William Cohen for intro to Community & Regional Planning. One of the best professors at Temple, hands down. Very Professional demeanor, always on time and prepared for class. Only had 12 people in class, so it was a great class. Knows his stuff and has much experience in the field of planning.
Most enthusiastic teacher. Easy class. Large lecture hall and definitely worth inviting friends to take with you. Grades are two tests and a portfolio. He only randomly calls out a few names for attendance but I don't think he really cares. My friend and I missed 8 of 9 classes after test 1, he didn't notice.Plus he jokes about alcohol (hilarious!)
Nice enough guy. The class itself is a joke. Lecture class..missed more then i attended. Grade is based on 2 tests and a portfolio. I did the portfolio the morning of and still got a b...he left the class for 15 minutes for the final...needless to say we were all done by the time he got back...
the onli word to describe him is EASY. Two midterms NO final. a portfolio... EASY. u can do it a couple days before its due. He gives u about a month. I barely went to class.. onli when a few times. midterms are OPEN BOOK. EASY AC core. jus go there n do some other work, thats what i did most of the time.dont sleep.
He's really nice and totally interested in his subject, even though most of the class isn't. there's two open book, open note tests, one two page portfolio. awesome guy, just wish i had him for a smaller class. TAKE THIS CLASS!
Easy class, easy professor. Very enthusiastic. Very boring class for me because I'm not a little bit interesting in the material but attendance isn't mandatory. I would suggest to read the book and get the notes though b/c thats what the open note/book tests are all on. Easy on semester grade, just wants to see progess.
He's a good professor. Helpful to keep up with the readings.
He's enthusiatic. One more thing I like is the open book exams. TAKE GOOD NOTES IN HIS CLASS HOWEVER BORING IT MAYBE. He's quite demanding in his writing assignment, make sure it is smooth and free or errors.
Very enthusiastic. VERY easy class.
All I have to say is that the porfolio is highly vague. You can get an A if you write some BS regarding the environment and the liberal junk he preaches in class. But if you write on any sort of interesting or social issue that relates to people, you will not get an A on the portfolio, which may compromise your grade. Easy class nonetheless
Cohen was a good guy. If you show up, which many didn't, just take as much notes as you can from his lectures. As long as you pay attention, you will get an A. It is really easy, two easy projects and open-book exams. It was sometimes very boring, but that's where you can do other work for. One of the easier GenEds you can take for US Society.
Prof. Cohen is a pretty decent teacher. He's extremely enthusiastic and you can tell he loves what he does. He says himself that he doesn't want his students to have a hard time, and the class is extremely easy. As long as you go to class and do the readings (also not hard) you'll ace the tests. the two projects are a breeze too. highly recommended
Enthusiastic teacher.Go to class and take notes on anything he shows in class, especially the drawings. I would recommend reading the first book only,if you don't the first test will be difficult. The projects are vague, but if you put some effort into it, you will get at least a B.City 21 test is easy, don't bother reading the book. Overall good
A great teacher and definitely will keep you awake. Him and his sidekick Senior Scholar De Jong made a great team. The first book you have to read is boring and on the first test he takes out direct quotes and expects you to know what page they are on. Other then that, projects are easy and second test is open book also. No final which was great .
If you are looking for an easy us society class here it is. Cohen is very interesting, even for non-planners like me. The exams are easy, essays are too. Not much effort needed for an A and the topics give you something to think about which you never thought about before. kool.
READ THE BOOKS! if you do, then exams are extremely easy and since its open book, you can use the book in exam and you know exactly where to find certain answers. if you don't read the book, it will be hard to find the answers in book even if you have them with you. take good notes, that's helps too. projects are easy. overall easy A
Decent professor. Not the best I ever had, he comes off as a toughie but if you just talk to him and be honest he can be more flexible. He's an interesting guy, pretty funny. I took Intro to Community Planning with him, there were only three things he graded, two papers and a midterm. Not too hard.
Absolutely hated this class. The projects seem to be graded by just picking a grade out of a hat. There are five people, who can grade your projects. Some give all As.Others Cs.Saw a girl with an amazing portfolio, who got a C.The girl next to her had a lackluster one and got an A.Incorrect grades posted but he never fixed after several complaints.
The class could not be more boring, but its easy. Show up to the lectures, take notes because you can use them on the tests. Two small papers as well but they are not bad at all. Easy A
Unless you're passionate about the environment, the class is really boring!well, if you have to take a GenEd for human behavior, this one is not too bad!open book exams but you dont have the time to go over your notes though; and he also give questions out of the huge textbook!I guess there is worse than this class!take it as a second choice
EASY GENED- Pretty boring if your not all about the environment but its pretty easy. Go to class, take notes because they are not online . ALL OPEN NOTE EXAMS. You have 2 exams, 1 portfolio and( 1) 3 page paper.
Prof Cohen was extremely enthusiastic about his field. I have no interest in the environment whatsoever so this class was pretty boring for me. Easy class though. 2 exams (open note), a super easy portfolio and a paper. Easy GenEd
The tests are open notes. He doesn't put notes online and he includes films on the tests. There is a portfolio, which he didn't explain really. You just need pictures and captions. The think-tank essay at the end of the semester is okay. Overall, it's a reasonable class, just more stressful than it needs to be.
By far the easiest class I have taken at Temple. All open notes and projects are insanely simple. Take for easy A, but not if your looking to learn something important.
Great professor, and really passionate about what he teaches. At times the grading may seem unfair but, he sometimes curves tests, and always willing to help. Overall he is fun to be around, and always makes the class more interesting.
VERY easy grader if you follow the specific guidelines. Do not overachieve because he won't read your papers. Tests are open bookopen note but 1. he doesn't put anything on blackboard so you have to go to class if you want the notes & 2. at least skim the readings and highlight some main points.
He is really hyper everyday, i have him in the morning and he always give energy to the dull class. There are like only 4 assignments that matters (including only 2 tests), there's no in-class final, you have to turn in an essay as a final thing. It's really an easy A class but you should NEVER skip it and it's reading intensive!!!!
Very easy class! But the topic I found to be really boring! I was lucky he was such an entertaining teacher!
He only gives 2 exams, one portfolio, and one final essay, but considered yourself screwed if you need clarification or help. I asked to meet with him to review my knowledge of topics for exam 2, but he only met with me for five minutes during CLASS TIME when a video that was on the exam was playing. The instructions for writings were too broad.
You must go to class everyday and take notes on every single thing he discussesprojects including pictures because he doesn't put notes online. Only 4 assignments which are fairly easy, but depending on who your grader is for the portfolio and essay you might as well pull your grade out of a hat. Tests are open book, but reading is crucial!
Professor Cohen is a great guy, very funny and inspirational. His lectures always include some humor in them and are always interesting!! 2 easy papers and 2 open note exams, so attendance is mandatory for a good grade. Senior Scholar is the best too
Professor Cohen is a very easy to understand but expect to take a lot of notes. All of the examinations he gives (2) are open note and open book (which he is the editor of). The portfolio is very easy to do as it is literally on whatever subject you choose. The think-tank is not tough either. Overall, buy the reader and you will do well.
This is a well thought out and organized course with no surprises and fun projects.
Dr. Cohen is a super nice guy. He's super passionate about what he teaches which helps because it can get VERY boring. Overall, interesting class. Lots of notes (no laptops), lots of reading; but it is all pretty easy reading. Open note tests (SO EASY), and two papers, and you're done. No final, no checked homework. Easiest class I have ever taken!
People, Places & the Environment is a super easy class, the only thing you have to do is go to the often boring lectures and have the textbook. Tests are open book and open note so tests should be a breeze. The couple assignments were fairly easy. Dr. Cohen despises when students use technology in class. Senior Scholar is the best addition to class
Professor Cohen is a really nice guy. His tests are open book and open note, so make sure you go to class or get the notes from someone. You have two easy tests, a portfolio, and a 3-5 page paper. The lectures can get really boring and he does not tolerate electronics at all. The class is super easy.
This class is super easy if you just go to all classes. Tests are open note and open book which is great! Lectures can get really boring and long, but the easy A is worth it!
Really nice guy, loves what he teaches. Very energized. You have to go to class because he does not post the lectures, which is a pain but tests are open notes and open book.
His lectures and the material covered were really interesting. The class was really easy. He didn't take attendance, but he didn't post any material online so you need to go to get the notes. There were only 4 grades for the semester. The two tests were open note and the two projects were fun and easy. He is a great professor.
Loved the course
There are readings before almost every class. They are helpful in understanding the course but many people don't read considering all the tests are open notes anyways. He really enjoys what he does and puts a lot of energy into his lectures. Everything about the course is clearly lined out in the syllabus.
He is very interested in what he teaches but it is very slow and boring if you are not into it. Take notes because questions on tests are word for word from notes or readings. Two projects, easy to pass.
You need to go to class in order to pass PPE. The tests are open note and open book and literally all of the questions are worded from the lectures that you take notes on. There is so much reading and it is rather boring. Skimming will get you through. Portfolio project is easy. Very liberal, old professor. Senior Scholar is a funny sidekick.
Professor Cohen's class was really easy. People, Places, and Environment is a really easy US Society Gen Ed. Only 2 exams and they are open note and open text book.
Really enjoyed this course. It really makes you think. Great prof.
He's extremely energetic about the subject, but if you're not into what he's talking about (like me), you'll be bored. Take detailed notes, and title your notes by the date of the lecture, since he references dates on his tests. Super easy grader. Not allowed to use technology in class, which is annoying. Senior scholar is the best part tbh
Professor Cohen was a great teacher who was very enthusiastic about what he taught. Super easy class that I personally found very interesting. There are readings from the textbook but they are not necessary to keep up with the class. Only 2 real assignments were given the whole semester. Highly recommend
This is a super easy gen ed for US society. Attendance is not mandatory but, he does not put the powerpoint online, so go to class. There are two exams (open book, open note), a portfolio, and an essay (both which are SUPER easy). He gives readings, but you honestly don't have to read them because he does not ask any questions about it. Easy A.
He and Senior Scholar are the perfect duo and adorable! Besides that the class is pretty much an easy A, As long as you read and take notes during the lectures you should pass. Don't hesitate to ask him for a deeper explanation and explain to him if you're having a personal problem because he's very understanding!
Dr Cohen is hands down one of the best profs I've had so far at Temple. His class is incredibly interesting, especially if you get to know him. He has years of experience in what he teaches which leads to some incredible stories. He also is very clear about grading and due dates. Take good notes though, tests are always open note.
Worst professor I have ever had a temple. Very old and stuck in his ways. Instead of giving me help with writing my essay and marking what was wrong simple said "see writing center" with a low grade. Exams are open note and he expects you to know little areas of text out of absurd amount of reading essays. DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS.
This is an easy A gened. Cohen is nice and feels passionate about what he teaches. You buy one book. Lectures are his powerpoints. Write them down because exams are open note, straight from pp and book. Gets boring but so easy that it is worth it. Senior Scholar is also a plus. He sends out dog memes for holidays. Have to write a paper or two.
Bad GRADING System. One multiple choice is 5 points. I got 4 wrong and I'm screwed. That makes it a B-. Super boring class.
Very easy class! Nice Professor! Test open book, humour professor.
TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!! Probably the easiest gen ed and I'm not lying about that either. Seriously, this class all you have to do is show up to the class and copy the notes. The professor does not put up the notes online so make sure you go to every class. Open book tests, super easy. The exact questions from the notes.
He's not a bad teacher, but his tests are based on his own opinions. The grading is also very unclear. My friend and I both received A- on our paper even though my paper said "Good" and his said "Very Good". He's a funny guy and definitely nice, just old school and very opinionated on topics.
Not a bad old soul but the class really drags on. If you want a fairly easy course it's not bad but I doubt you'll be impressed by him. Pretty funny once or twice a class but the rest of the course is excruciating. There are better courses and professors at Temple and I really suggest putting in the time to find them.
take this class. easiest gened ever. you have to go to class bc he doesnt post powerpoints online. all tests are open notes. you dont have to do the readings but you should buy the textbook because you can use it on the tests and questions will be word for word from the book. only two papers and super easy.
Cutest lil guy. Show up to class and take notes and you will easily get an A. Open note exams that are straight from the notes and the reader. Lectures every class but he tries his best to keep the classes attention. Definitely recommend
The class is graded on two open note exams and two papers. I didn't like the course but it's a gened. Cohen is a very good lecturer, very old school approach to teaching. Doesn't post the lectures on blackboard so you have to attend every class for the notes needed for the exam.
Favorite class yet. Best professor yet
Every class is a lecture. Two quizzes both being open note. Does not take attendance but you need the notes for every class. one 2 page paper, one 3-5 page paper 2 open note quiz. Class is not bad at all just gets boring some times.
Clearly very passionate about his subject and it shows. Very old school kind of professor so there is no technology allowed, but it works and doesn't hinder the class. People, Places, and Environment has a reader that you should get for open book tests. Don't have to attend, but tests are also open note so it helps. Overall should be an easy class.
Nice professor. Only get 2 tests which are open book and only have 2 papers for the semester. You must attend since powerpoints don't get posted online. PPE is a painfully easy gen-ed. If you're a junior or senior you will feel like your almost losing brain cells each class. His class really caters more to freshman & sophomores.
Great professor overall. Very old-school style of lecture. Showing up to class is mandatory as he has a reason to not post his presentation on canvas. He cares about students showing up to his classroom and take notes in the auditorium. Recommend him as there is no final exam in this course. There are only 2 midterm exams, a portfolio and an essay.
Good professor overall. attendance is necessary to write notes in the auditorium as he does not post presentation on canvas. There are two midterm exams, a portfolio and an essay. Both midterm exams are open notes, so bring reader and your notes. Very recommend him as an old-school style. Very caring about students succeeding in his class.
The only thing you need to do to ensure you get an A in this class is show up to class, take notes, and buy the Reader. He says you should do the readings before you get to class but the midterms are open-note so just bring the reader and your notes. The writing assignments are easy in this class; run your essays through Grammarly.
very understanding of covid situations. He was very old school in the way he talked in lectures and i personally enjoyed it. he's funny and I love going to class. when it comes to your grade, he loves to see improvement and if you show improvement, then your grade will reflect it. 2 open note exams, 2 essays and readings (nongraded).
He's one of the BEST professors I've had so far. He's really interesting, knowledgeable, approachable and overall just super kind and willing to work with you. The contents of the reading was some times long, but it all came to be interesting. SO READ THE READINGS. He's great! I truly loved this course. Don't be afraid to participate!
Prof Cohen is nice and interesting! Easy A. Got 2 open book exams and essay assignments overall. And there are readings before classes(non-graded) Overall, nice professor and easy class.
A real bore. All he talked about in PPE was how evil suburbs are, how towns are the best, and nothing else. His ideology is really outdated and comes off as complaining. If you don't mind that, he's pretty easy and chill.
This class is definitely lecture heavy, and there are readings to do before hand but they are not required to succeed. He provides an online version of the textbook so don't buy it. Online exams are open note so use lecture slides and readings and you will be fine. Essays are very open and he gives clear expectations. Easy grader.
He's a super nice guy, however, his teaching methods are very out of date. There are barely any assignments for this class but it is a bore and super lecture heavy.
Class can be very disorganized at times. Exams are all open note and open book but they are not free-be questions. The exam questions can be very complex. Lectures can be very boring.
If you like talking about climate change, you'd like this course. His lecture style is a bit outdated, but he is passionate about what he teaches. Some reviews say that you can pass without the reader, but keep up with it anyways. He can be tough, just communicate with him. He's a genuine man but sometimes he has his grumpy moments.
he was always very sweet and caring. he is very accommodating for any situations. i always found his lectures very interesting if you care about these kinds of things. he would constantly make jokes and i love his entertainment.
A good class to take, just be careful of the homework. He doesn't really tell you what is due and sometimes the response boards on canvas sneak up on you. Make sure you do all the response boards there EZ and your grade gets affected by them. Lastly, only 3 days are mandatory. You can get an A with a little amount of work.
Upon the first day of class he told us that we were not to use computers in the classroom, which is universally unheard of and completely unfair require as a professor. Coming to this class was a drag, as it was very boring, and having no access to technology is detrimental to a modern learning environment. I would not recommend him at all.
Nice, sweet elderly man, however his "no technology" approach can be detrimental to learning. He does not tell you when assignments are due, only once at the beginning of the semester. Canvas is not used once, as he frowns upon it. This can cause confusion and frustration. His classes are boring, and he is a dry, slow speaker. Do not recommend.
boring material and lectures. exams sucked and papers sucked. youll be fine if you take him but you wont have fun.
The class was okay. Professor Cohen normally uses the whole class time and it's just lectures. There is no attendance taken but he doesn't post the slides so if you missed a class you'll need someone to give you their notes after. He is very caring and tries to make the class interesting but the topic was just not for me.
Dr. Cohen is definitely an old school professor. No technology, no Canvas, everything in the syllabus. He gives good lectures but that is quite literally all the classes are. He's older and seems to be hard of hearing so that made it difficult at times to communicate. Assignment expectations can be a little confusing and subject to change but easy
