Teacher is pretty funny, he's african and got this thick accent, also, his mouth never stops moving, literally, whether he's talking or not, next time you see him, take a careful look. Class is pretty easy going, he gives extra credit points whenever he feels like it. also he goes over current events which is useful.
pretty ok class but he was horrible @ teaching. i dont think i learned anything in his class. his syllabus is wrong so dont go by it. hes very unclear about how he grades. hes very unorganized let alone boring. i couldnt understand him. he says the quiz is specifically on two chapters but when i went to take it it was nothing in those chapters
REALLY Easy. He gave us OPEN BOOK TAKE HOME QUIZZES. Gives out a ton of extra credit. His class is super easy and he even says that he doesn't give anyone below a C on the first day of school. Do the daily news in his class because you get a ton of extra points from that (it could boost you from a C to an A).
ok professor, go over ppt slides every lecture from different book/authors. Assign hw when it is not listed on the syllabus. Doesn't have clear date of the Exam. Provides email address, but he doesn't answer/reply any emails. But he gives tons of extra credit tho' LOL
He has a VERY thick African accent + is old + is very soft-spoken. I couldnt understand him at all. Basically tho to get an A, do the news-extra-credit-thing EVERY class. It wont be enuf just 2 get A's on the exams- trust me. Also he teaches 101 at CCBC so why was I paying $1K for the same education that the JuCo kids r getting for 1/3 the price?
As long as you do at least one current event each week. You will get a B. He tells you the first day that he does not give anyone grades lower than a C. Very thick african accent that makes him extremely hard to understand. I did extremely poorly on every exams and did not attend class often and still received a B.

Coomber is pretty easy, if you don't know econ then you may have to try a little harder. Just make sure you talk to him constantly about your grade or else you may get unfairly graded
Funny guy, hard to understand sometimes but he uses powerpoint slides every class. Attendance is very important, you have to present a current event once a week, if you don't present one, he calls your name to make sure you're in class. He tells you the first day, as long as you show up to class, you will not get anything lower than a C.
This professor was great! He helps you if you ask, he gives credit for participation/attendance, and his exams are not too difficult. You learn from them and he doesn't mind explaining things in more detail for you to understand.
Best econ prof. ever, if you want an easy A or B, take him.
best teacher ever. if you do the homework and keep quiet you will be guaranteed an A or B. very fun to talk to.
A very unconventional teacher. Takes attendance after 15 min of students reading current events, which are really pointless as some students read so low and nobody hears or care about them. Always says everything is easy but it's really not. Hard to predict your grade. Hard to describe because he's just so unconventional.
He is terrible. It is very hard to understand him, and he looks like he is always chewing tobbacco. He uses abbreviations without explaining what they mean. He uses the powerpoints that came with the textbook, but he isn't used to them, so repeats stuff with different exaples. The class is basically the textbook, but less clear.
He is so awesome. If you want an A in his class, just go and read your business news everyday. You can even do it off of your laptop, he doesn't care. Just do that, go to most of the classes and you get an A. Tests are easy. He does have a very heavy accent that took me half a semester to get, but other than that, he is just awesome.
very good instructor.woild recommend to others
good person teaching a good course.. Just show up and you should be good
very understanding and approachable
very knowlegdeable on international affairs on matters of economics and public policy
Worst teacher I have ever had in my life. He will call you stupid to your face and make you feel like crap if you screw something up. Good luck trying to understand him, he sounds like he is chewing on hay the entire time. Very rude, nasty and does not make any sense. I will be lucky to pass this course. Take my advice... TAKE SOMEONE ELSE!!!
worst teacher I've ever had. He changed his grading system mid semester and now no one can predict their grade. avoid this teacher. exam questions have nothing to do with material learned, questions on exams are ones we never learned how to do in class. If you took econ before you might be okay. But this is way too hard for an elementary class
UMBC needs to fire him. The school is pushing to be diverse but they can't even hire people that can speak english well. What a waste of my time and money. This class made me hate UMBC
what a complete joke.
take his class! the class itself sucked, and the entire semester i complained about the class and him. but i thought i was going to get a C or possibly a D in the class, but somehow i got a B. i guess he just gives everybody a good grade.
I thought I was going to fail, I even considered dropping the class. I decided to stick it out to see how I did, and I ended up with an A? I failed every assignment and the only thing I did right was give a news story everyday for the last two weeks. Guess participation is worth more than exams?
AVOID.
very helpfull and understanding
misunderstood.very intelligent and helpfull
This professor is not bad. Test are hard but he gives a lot of extra credit. I recomend this class because is very helpful for any career you do.
very impressive guy and very helpfull
good guy.very accomodating.helpfull.knowledgeable in world affairs.
Best professor ever!
Worst teacher I've ever had... he never went over the syllabus and I was left clueless as to what my grade was until the day I received it. His lectures are extremely unorganized. If you do the current events he had us do you should do fine because I failed the tests but still got a B in the class
very good guy
Great guy with good knowledge and also he is very helpful when needed.Do your aplia homework/ excercises regularly as most of the test questions are pretty similar to homework questions. If you want an A or an easy B defenitely take his course. Even if you don't do well in tests but do well in newspaper articles you can get easy B.
I am an out of state student who took this guy last summer and he is very good, knowledgeable and helpfull.will recommend to friends
a very good guy.very knowledgeable in world affairs.i took him last summer.can recommend to my friends
Worst teacher I've ever had. If you want an easy A then take him, but if you are taking this as an econ major STAY AWAY. I can honestly say I have learned nothing. His lectures comprise of him playing audio files that are already on the text books website. No use for the txt book, just spend the $ on the online supliment.
my world.nice guy.took him fall semester.very knowledgeable.love current economic news
Not a very good professor at all. Easy to get a good grade but class is painful and boring. One of the hardest people to understand i have ever met. Pretty much like talking to a brick wall when you ask him a question, get another professor for this class if at all possible
To me a good teacher.knowleageable and a subjectmatter specialist.before i took him never read business article, now i am into it
TOOK HIM THIS SUMMER.VERY GOOD WOULD RECOMMEND TO FRIENDS
A GOOD INSTRUCTOR.MADE WOULD RECOMMED TO FRIENDS
Got him this summer 2011 for macro.would recommend.previously not interested in economic news.now interested after taking his class.he is my world
interesting class last fallrecommended
A GOOD GUY.KNOWLEDGEABLE.VAST IN ECONOMIC WORLD AFFAIRS
A good class and good instructor
very good class.got my money's worth this summer.recommended
Nice guy but not a very effective professor. Takes up the first 20-40 minutes of class having people read economic news, which wastes time. When he does get to lecturing the material, he is hard to understand and doesn't explain things well. It's better to learn the material yourself with the book. Too bad attendance is mandatory.
like his teaching style.good now i appreciate current economic news..recommended
very helpfull guy and interesting.love his econ newsaround the world.will recommend
my world.i will miss his class
This professor is way to easy. Super laid back. Just do the article reviews during class. Take the HW and Tests online seriously and you will cruise through this class with no stress.
good guy.very funny
Doesn't teach well. His exam reviews in class are not helpful for preparating for exams
If you really want to understand the material and you're coming in cold, he's not very good at helping, but if you know a lot of the material already like I did, this is a fairly easy class. Three exams, couple of homeworks (always online/over the weekend). No real classwork. But take him mostly if you have a background in Econ.
like his teaching style
interesting guy.i am a science major but he made me like economics
I like his class. advice like a dad if you talk with him
iam a computer major and he made me like economics now
Might as well be an online class. He had class participation grades, I never went and got 100% on that. Hes a really nice guy, you cant understand a word he says, but all the exams are online, with two attempts and you get to see all the right answers after the first attempt. Wrote a garbage 4 page paper and got an A on that too. Curves at the end
he is a a good guy.he has a british accent,but knowledgeable
I just finished his spring class,he is a good guy, most of his tests are online with 2 tests in class.i like his economic news as it made me aware of world events and not only my major--recommended
Heis a free market economist and i do recommend his teaching.a nice guy
i have not yet taken the course and if someone sees this comment who has already taken the course, can you rate Coomber and leave a response to this question in your comments: does he keep track of who reads their current events/ do you actually have to participate. thanks.
Nice guy
Good professor, he is very unclear in his lectures. You will have to learn on your own but he is an easy grader.
Cant understand a word he said. But he only gives A's and B's so if you put in the work, but your grades aren't GREAT, you'll still do well. easy grader.
this man is hilarious. most of the time you can't understand a word he says with his accent but an overall easy class. you'll have to learn stuff on your own though. easy A, pretty much automatic B. He'll usually get rid of some bad test grades at the end of the year.
I showed up for 3 classes and managed to pull a B.
good guy
It's impossible to understand his accent and he's extremely unhelpful if you ask him questions. You learn everything you need to learn online, and all of the tests are online too. Got an A+, didn't learn any economics.
funny guy. tough to understand accent. automatic B, easy A. gets rid of some bad test grades. you'll have to participate in talking about current economic news, but don't worry, coming from someone terrified of participating, its a piece of cake. all online quizzes and final. online midterm too i think. prolly wont learn much but easy. hw is rare.
I enjoyed this class this fall 2015
He's a good guy, like a wise grandpa, but the lectures are extremely boring. However, his class is also extremely easy. If you want to learn some economics or have a fun elective, you should probably look elsewhere. But, if you don't care about learning economics but need to take the class anyway, this is the guy to have.
Economic News every class, just say your 30 seconds of recent news. He was bit hard to understand initially, but it wasn't too hard. He dropped the lowest exam grade. Online Mid Term and online final with in class portion. Had a final project, a four page paper.
Awful! When you can actually understand him (which is rarely), he makes no sense. You're absolutely on your own here. He does laugh at his own jokes which is pretty funny, as a professor though, AVOID!
So. Take Coomber if you want an incredibly easy 'A' for macroecon. The guy is like a grandpa, very relaxed and occasionally very funny. Lectures are very boring, don't expect to actually learn macro economics, but the class environment can be quite amusing (your mileage may vary). Workload is minimal, mostly myeconlab and 1 exam is dropped.
Not a bad class. We had to use myeconlab which cost a lot of money and was full of mistakes. Prof. has an accent and was sometimes hard to understand. Other prof. require less work for this class, but if you put in the time its an easy A. The study guides on myeconlab take questions from the exam, so do them before you take the exam.
very caring guy would recommend
i really enjoyed his lectures
Coomber Is super nice, it can be hard to unnderstand him sometimes but class is deff an easy A
Easiest class. Everything was online.
i like his lectures
very helpfull guy and want us to succeed
