there's bad feedback but i thought that this class was enjoyable, always had great debates daily. Just pay attention to his lecture notes, writing them down as he talks about them. he uses powerpoint but thats just a guidline, you dont want to focus writting as soon as he puts it up. just dont miss class and take good notes, be active in debates!

Excellent Prof and class. Tests are challenging but very passable. On occasion the class managed to make me reevaluate the way I view the world.

In a week from now I will have 91 credits with a 3.9 GPA. Based on that, I have some merit in telling you that this was a great professor. I took his class 4 years ago, and got a C. When I was barely 17, I wasn't really trying and I hope my honesty goes to show that I'm just distinguishing a good professor from a bad one.

Fun and interesting topics and professor enjoys open class conversations. No homework what-so-ever. Although keep up with the reading because although most questions are based off his notes, if you solely rely off them you will be lost on 4 or 5 of the 25 questions on the exams. Easy going and seems as if he could be golfing partners with our dads.

Dr. Cooney's a great professor. As others on this board have stated, all you need to do is copy down notes in class and complete the readings he assigns. There aren't any unpleasant surprises. His tests are directly from lectures & readings. I also noticed that some who gave Dr. Cooney a bad rating cannot even spell. Consider the source.

Professor Cooney is by far my favorite teacher. His tests can be difficult at times; nonetheless if you attend class, take notes and do the reading, you will definitely do well. All his topics are interesting, and he interacts with students. Fun class, and you learn quite a lot.

He is a good professor. Teaches well and has interesting topics. There is never any homework. Classes are not tough. He even grades on attendence. The tests are the only problem. The questions are vague and rarely match up with the notes. Many kids are confused on where he gets his questions from. The final grade is a very fun topic discussion.

Had him for Ethics, would highly reccomend him. You have to read the books for his tests and you will get an A. WIsh I could take him for other classes

I took him for Ethics this semester and I learned a lot!! I thought the tests were challenging but I always got above an 85B. There is no final exam, just a discussion. I'm shy so I was nervous about speaking, but he makes you feel comfortable. Highly recommend him! =]

Took Ethics in the summer. The class is really engaging and he makes the subject as easy to understand and interesting as possible. I enjoyed coming to class and learned a lot. However, some of the test questions were really vague and on topics not really discussed. Overall a great class, definitely recommend Cooney.

He was a good teacher. I accidentally took a class that was half online, so there weren't that many discussions. When people said extremely ignorant things he didn't try to correct them, which I did not take offense to. I suppose he did not want to get involved in telling people what to believe.

Easy class if you refer to the power point sheets he gives you in the beginning of the class. Take notes and show up. He is interesting and up on everything. Was hoping for an A but the final pulled me down to a B. Final was not easy.

I took a blended course. The class is passable, but the tests were not that easy even though I made good grades. You do open up your mind to certain intereresting topics. Sometimes the textbooks are a bit boring. I wish the PowerPoint was updated and included more information and a better guideline to study for tests.

Dr. Cooney is a ballin teacher. Tells you everything thats on each test and makes things fun and easy to learn. Show up to class and not alot of studying needed.

He was a great teacher! there are 3 tests and he gives a review for each! then there is a mini speech instead of a final and its like 2 min or less. Such an easy class and he is really nice! HIGHLY RECOMMEND

The professor is great. The class is really easy if you take good notes( wich he let's you use on the test) and pay attention. You have a topic discussion instead of a final and he uses the final date to make up any test you missed during the course.

I appreciated his knowledge of the subject and it was not boring at all (as it can be a pretty tough subject to pay attention to). He's very helpful in letting students know what exams are coming upwhat the criteria is; he also eases the worries of bad grades, as there's usually a curve and he's forgivingallows retakes. Very kind professor, quite funny as well. In general, he's very good at lectures, doesn't make the class stressful, and is very helpful.

A really great professor. His lectures are clear but can be a little boring at times. Has many helpful things in Canvas though to help you understand what he spoke of. Doesn't give off many test but when he does they at times can be confusing. Reading the book is very helpful, especially for the tests. Your looking at a 6-page report due at the end

Dr. Cooney is an amazing professor who also teaches at FGCU, my class was online and once a month in class, all the work i had to do was simply write informal responses to ethics once a week. it was opinion based wok and so you really cant fail. i disagreed with many theories and expressed it which contributed to my A.

The class was an easy A and if you needed assistance he was there to help. The lectures are pretty much in a power point and literally, the test is from that power point and then a few details about readings. When reading the book, read the intro first, ALWAYS, it will guide you with the reading and help the discussions.

Cooney is a great choice! I am so glad I chose his ethics class. There is no homework, only 3 tests and a final paper at the end! super easy. And he makes his lectures short and to the point, but he also has a good personality so it's not boring. I took his class on a night class, it was 6-8:40, but we were always out by 7,7:30 :) pick him!!!

Dr. Cooney is an honest and knowledgeable professor. I really enjoyed going to his class and listening to his lectures. He does have his lectures recorded , but I fell he provided students with a lot of more information in class. Review your notes and read the book and you will be ok with his test.

Dr. Cooney is a kind gentleman with great humor. All lectures in class go more in depth of what he already has on a power point you can open anytime from canvas. He curves tests, and can reward you for showing up to class. If you are supposed to have a two and half hour class he usually gets you out in just an hour and half. Would take again.

This professor is funny and easy going. Lectures are straight and to the point. You must read and attend class to pass. Test are straight forward. I would recommend him to anybody.

Great Professor overall! The class is mostly lecture and discussion, but they are entertaining and engaging. Take notes during class as a lot of that is covered is on the test. Tests are challenging, but he had a curve during my semester. If you study your class notes and do the reading you'll be fine.

I took Professor Cooney for a blended class, where we would have 4 class meetings, once every month. Funny guy and does not bore you! Book was necessary, but discussions were pretty easy if you do your reading which are interesting. Does not let his students fail, so know that this professor is caring and will get back to you always.

I took this class after I failed ethics with another professor and I'm glad I took him. He was funny, caring,and helpful. Discussions about everything from racism to the environment very engaging even I participated which I usually never do but I felt comfortable in his class. He would let us out early every class. Use the lectures Prof. records online. They helped a lot with any missed notes in class. With lectures and the Slides provided I hardly used the book, very hard to understand the reading anyways.

I had no idea what to expect out of a critical thinking class, but he really made a difficult subject exciting to learn. No homework, just 4 tests. Keeps class short, but it is mandatory to pass to class!!!

I had Dr. Cooney through a split campus/online course. While the class was only held once a month I found that I loved his lectures. Very informative and humorous. Make sure to take detailed noted during the lectures. The weekly homework wasn't too bad depending on the chapter of the textbook. The tests could be brutal. Again take tons of notes.

His tests are pretty easy, and he drops the lowest test grade so thats really convenient. Also, his tests are the only grade in the class besides one term paper, but theyre all online so its not a huge deal.

I had professor Cooney for spring 2018 ethics. He had a good sense of humor and would always review during the beginning of class and then let us leave early. Attendance was graded which was annoying. You have to read the textbook or you won't pass the exams. Overall a good experience and would take again.

Professor Clooney's class is enjoyable. You do have to make an effort in memorizing some terms in order to get good grades. He does drop the lowest test grade. He involves his student in a very fun way. I would definitely take another class with him.

Teacher is very fair and approachable. if you are having trouble make an effort to contact him via email. He always responded quickly which I think is a great quality in a prof. I took his mixed class and found it difficult to download the lectures in the blackboard format.

Great professor! He lectures the whole time you're in class, but gives you breaks and tries to get you out early. The only downside is he doesn't use Canvas for grades, so you never know what your grade is. Attendance is mandatory and big part of grade, but you only have 3 tests and 1 paper the whole semester.

I had him for ethics and I didnt read my book once, mainly because I didnt understand it. He is a fun professor and definitely makes the classes interesting and understandable. We took three tests in total and the last test can replace the lowest grade. If I didnt study with my peers I wouldnt have passed. 7/10

Cooney was the best professor I had this semester. He is easy to understand and still curves tests (a lot I might add), while still dropping the lowest score. The final is a 3-5 page essay on your choice of topic.

Dr. Cooney made class fun, interesting, & easy to understand. As long as you show up & take notes (power points provided), you will get an easy A. He is very informative, and allows you to use your notes for test, drops lowest test score & provides recorded lectures, in case you miss a class. He also grades on a curve. HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM!!

Tests are online and arent proctored which is great. Assigns one paper without an outline, but didnt grade harsh. Lectures are interesting but can get boring at times. Very funny and chill professor.

Professor Cooney has very well prepared lectures that are easy to follow and very interesting. There are six discussions and an essay for his online ethics course on topics covered in his lectures. He grades fairly and is very dedicated to teaching. Professor Cooney was my only teacher that emailed the class reminding us when assignments were due.

Dr. Cooney is one of the best professors I've ever had. He is really interesting and a solid lecturer. If you do the discussions and listen to him in class you will 100% pass. This man does not let you fail.

He is a really nice teacher just make sure to do discussions on time he also rounds up your grade and the class only consists of 4 exams lowest being dropped and then 6 discussions and a final paper that you can do on a movie. Overall I would take him again really easy class and minimal work.

Great professor, the discussions are so interesting I often write more than the word limit. The only thing is even if you're good with the discussions the tests are a bit confusing at times so make sure to actually study the material. Classes are very engaging.

Dr. C is real caring! Unlike other professor, I am going through the toughest time of my life and Dr. C took the time and work out a plan with me! I recommend him as just a good person!

This class was interrupted by Hurricane Ian. Before going online his lectures were exactly what was on the test. Once online, the pre-recorded lectures did not cover even half of what was on the tests. There were discussions, but if you follow an example you should be fine. Fun and entertaining classes. One big paper at the end of the course.

Pros: -great IN PERSON lectures -relatively easy exams when coupled with IN-PERSON lectures -few major projects (just one paper at the end of the semester) Cons: -online lectures fail to reflect what is on exams -online lectures lack the same amount of information given during in-person classes I would take the class again, but only if in person.

Dr. Cooney is very funny and makes his class lectures fun. I've had him in two courses. He also gives feedback quick and generous in helping students. He drops your lowest exam, your lowest assignment, accepts late work, and grades on a curve. Most of my professors do none of those things! I recommend him one thousand percent.

Dr. Cooney is amazing. Logic can be pretty hard and I wanted to give up. He encouraged me, made me feel smart and able to do well in class, which I did. I would recommend anyone to take his classes. Professor Cooney's classes are very organized. I've had three with him. His assignments are about today's issues in the news, and are clear with due dates posted. Go to class, do the homework, and you will do well. He does not want you to fail and will help you if needed. He cares about students and even wrote an amazing reference for me.

This professor is amazing. He believed in me when I doubted myself about not passing his class. Do the work if you don't understand something asked him questions, he is very responsive. The class is a blend class be sure to attend to class section it is better than zoom meeting you will learn better in class, and you will understand the HW better.

I took this class blended so I only was in person for two out of four months and for the most part his lectures were very well structured and discussed everything that was in the test. While there are very few assignments he is very forgiving when it comes to helping you pass the class. If you stay and pay attention you should pass with good grades

His lectures drag on sometimes and it's hard to pay attention to him but he was a lovely professor, and all his assignments and tests were straightforward and easy to pass.

I've taken Dr. Cooney for 3 courses now. Lectures are interesting and very organized, as is the whole class. All assignments and due dates are posted on our homepage from the start of the term and he is good about sending many reminders of coming due assignments starting a week before things are due. He also lets us do work ahead of time. Cool guy.

He is pretty lenient with his grading: he drops the lowest discussion post and lowest exam grade, accepts late work, and grades on a 3% curve. Although I scored the lowest grade in his class, he was an amazing teacher passionate about the subject. Stay off your phone during class so he'll allow the class to end early!

This is my 3rd class with Dr. Cooney. He's so well organized and lectures are always clear. There's plenty of time for assignments and due dates are on the homepage, and he also sends multiple reminders each week. Logic can be very dry and boring, but he tries to use examples from current time like political issues or others in the news. Love him!

I was nervous taking this course, but I found a new interest and really vibed with the way of thinking. I really enjoyed starting each week off with his intro videos which were very useful to help me understand the more difficult concepts. This course helped me determine my own morals independent of my upbringing and I am super grateful.
