Dauber is a really great teacher! Tells it like it is about journalism business and the basics about news writing. He's very clear and direct in his teaching and you learn a lot!
Great teacher learned alot
Excellent class. Really helps with writing. You write various types of stories. Doesn't overload you with work. Each person reads what they wrote. You learn from your own and other people's writing. Excellent technique.
J 101, 202, & 218! Wonderful and interesting professor! I obtained all of my journalistic skills from him & proudly tell everyone when they compliment my writing that I learned from "Bill Dauber!" Take his class, he makes learning fun!
AWESOME! COOL!
hes so hott..i love him
awesome teacher, knows his stuff, seems like a good guy and doesn't overwhelm with homework.
Excellent teacher who really cares and is enthusiastic about what he does. You do have to earn your A, but you actually learn something.
Very seldomly do I love a class this much. He loves what he does and he likes you to love it too. Homework is apparent, but he makes it fun and really relates to the student, you can't help but love him. Even if you don't want to be a journalist, just take it for a fresh breath in your semester.
Absolutley a great teacher, alot of fun and he is interested in his students. You learn from a man who is a journalist, he shows you the various types of writing. Better than taking English 28, at least that is my opinion. Fun quizzes on the front page news and tests to see what you have learned.

Awsome teacher, bother fun & funny! Also, does favors by dropping you, if you stop attending class so that you will not fail!
One of the best teachers I ever had! I wish he could teach all of my class.
Easy to understand, not TOO much homework. Makes learining about journalism a pleasant experience.
He is cool I had a fun time in his class . He loves to tell jokes to every one . I would tell any student to take his class . He loves to talk about his kids and his wife and tells us how much he loves them.
Made me fall in love with journalism; I still have the textbook from his class. I took this class in the 10th grade of high school, got an A. Classwork isn't too difficult.. but you do have to try.Three years later, I still want to stop by and visit.. just to say thanks for making class awesome!
My second class. He truly does care--is flexible VERY fair. A good man with passion for what he teaches. I also appreciate the fact that he will grade you on the ALL of you work and efforts. THANKS Mr. Dauber!!
He's awesome! Take this class! He tells great stories and is extremely informative and helpful. He knows about the newspaper business and shares his knowlege with you. Plus, he's totally hot.
Bill Dauber is an AMAZING teacher. If you're a journalism student, he'll make you love journalism even more. His passion for this subject is highly infectious as soon as you step into his class. He's very easy to talk to, extremly fair grader- there's no way to NOT pass his class. Join the newspaper staff- trust me, you won't regret it.
took this class in the winter of 2004, made me want to be a journalist. It is a lot of writing but well worth it. An excellent teacher, wish there were more teachers like him where i go to scool now.If you try, you should get a good grade. Take his class you will not regret it.
Great Professor! He knows what he's talking about and he's very personable. He's quick to compliment students on their good work and help when they're having a hard time. BE ON TIME!
What a hot tamale!! Ooh la la! Anyone who takes this teacher will not regret it! Fantastic guy who knows what he's talking about and really looks out for his students to make sure they understand. Great golf stories too! lol Miss you Dauber!
Best teacher ever. Very intellegent and relatable. He is extremely fair and will take the time to work with you individually. Out of all the teachers I've ever had, he is by far the best.
Very good teaching abilities , not hard , but not too easy . Reminds me of Ray Remano .His tests are fair , but essays will get more points w/ extra details make sure you write a lot of well written essays to pass and his extra credit will help you
DAUBER REALLY IS ONE OF THE BEST TEACHERS. HE IS SUCH AN EASY GRADER AND GIVES SO MUCH EXTRA CREDIT. HE'S PERSONABLE, LAID BACK AND FUNNY. AND REALLY CARES ABOUT HIS STUDENTS. HE ALWAYS TAKES EXTRA TIME WITH YOU IF YOU SEEK HIM OUT. GET ON HIS GOOD SIDE BY TALKING GOLF, SPRINGSTEEN AND BERKELEY. TELL HIM HOW MUCH YOU LOVE ANN COULTER! LOVE THIS GUY
He's simply great! He knows his material, cares about his students and gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. What more can you want?
good teacher, reviews whats on the test before you take it and givees you the essays before hand and gives good tips on how to write good essays not only for the class but for future classes as well
Loves his job and is very good at it.
TAKE THIS CLASS! You will learn so much from a teacher who really does know what hes talking about. Tests are easy (Study though!)& assignments are fun. If you want to be a journalist, this class will make you want to be one even more. Do buy the text, its used occasionally but is very helpful.
I'll say this, just for the people I knew in this class...Hot for Teacher!
I took Journalism 101 with Bill last fall, and he made me really enjoy a subject I had virtually no interest in prior to the class (I only took it as a major requirement.) One of the best professors I've had regardless of subject!
Inspiring, Helpful, Motivating! Interesting, ATTRACTIVE, & Willing. He will make you LOVE the idea of majoring in Journalism. He shares his experience and gives creative assignments. He's a young hip teacher who gives interesting and thought provoking lectures.Tests are average difficulty, should study. He becomes more of a friend than a professor.
ALL PRO'S, NO CONS!
Best Teacher EVER! Very relaxed class, fun and funny! COMPLETELY FAIR. I HIGHTLY recommend taking one of his classes! Trust me, he's the best.
Gosh Mr. Dauber, sexy, funny, entertaining, who could ask for more? Too bad he is married. I highly reccomend this class though on a serious note.
Liked him. Wish I had studied for the tests more and I didn't like the assignments he gave, but I did like him. Best class was when we were talking about music and he brought in someone to speak. Now that I know how he grades and how his tests work I'd take another class with him.
Mr.Dauber is full of charisma, funny jokes, and a sence of humor.I wish he was my proff for all my classes.unfortunately hes happily married, and so am I.I still give him 25 hot chillis!!lets just say hes salsa!!
This class was harder than I thought, but not because of dauber. I liked the challenges he gave us in our writing. Will make you work for your grade but I like that. Is probably most critical of the students he knows, but its all constructive and he knows they can take it. THE BEST TEACHER AT VALLEY, take him even if you're not a journalisim major.
great professor. learned a lot from him and enjoyed his class as well.
Class was easier than I thought. A hybrid class, most of the work done online. Like everyone says, there is not a bad thing about Dauber. If only more professors at Valley were more like him. You're the best Dauber!
fair teacher. one of the best teachers on campus.i recommend to take his class. There aren't many teachers like him.
Dauber is amazing. His class is interesting, and even if it wasn't his smile makes up for it. I highly his class. If doing hybrid, it's important to stay on top and not miss class. E-mail him if you have questions, he is so helpfull! OVERALL an A+ teacher, and I agree with whoever called him salsa. He's just got that something!!
In my opinion he is the best teacher at Los Angeles Valley College. Even if I failed his class (I didn't fail I got a B) I would still call him the best teacher at LAVC. He gives a damn about you learning. No offense to him or LAVC, but Mr. Dauber should be a professor at USC, because the world needs to know about him. Take his class!
Dauber is def one of the best teachers at LAVC. He loves his job and he's excellent at it. Very helpful, knows what hes talking about. Willing to help, clear speech, approachable. He's also super attractive and if journ is not ur subject, he'll make it be it. Just a great professor. Highly recommended! gotta love his sex appeal!
I have taken this class multiple times, Bill is AMAZING. You can't say enough good thing about him. I wish that when I transfer he could keep teaching me!
Great Teacher...My personal favorite and overall great guy!!
Approach this class as a self-study type class... Not much instruction is provided, but the textbook Dauber chose is excellent with lots of room to research. Fairly easy, just keep up with the reading. Dauber can be a bit inconsistent, but he'll work with you and is quick to respond to any inaccuracies. Very pleasant teacher!
great teacher.. he has good sense of humor.. everything he teaches and asks you to do is helpful if you want a career in journalism. he is supportive and a good person. he also lets you rewrite your articles for a better grade. you have to meet the deadlines. thats very important!
I have taken this class multiple class. Dauber is a must of you want to work as a journalist. All I can say is he is the best you can get.
Best teacher i've ever had a Valley, he made me want to major in Journalism. Even if you could care less about journalism you will enjoy his class. Make sure to not miss any deadlines because he wont budge on that, but other than that he's really helpful and will let you rewrite your papers for a higher grade.
best there is
you learn off the book and do the assignments he assigns that require not to much time. he goes off topic alot and i guess old age is catching up to him becuase he forgets half of the things he says he will do in class. lectures are mostly about him and his expiriences in journalism that makes half of the class fall asleep. pretty an easy A
Dauber was a Great teacher. He used current examples and stories. Just do your homework, show up for class and take the tests, guaranteed B!
Read the book well and you will find his quizzes and tests are easy. They are directly from the book. Discussions questions are very easy. He is a fair grader. Easy A, but you you have to read the book really well in order to get an A in the class.
Like OMG! So super duper hot! And a good teacher -Israel
Really into class participation so attendance is factored into the grade. There are a bunch of writing assignments that he returns unmarked, making it hard to determine if you're doing well or not. He's super cool and fun to listen to but easily looses control of the class.
Aah one of my favorite teachers at valley.I randomnly took his class and because of him i realized i wanted to major in journalism.I have completed all his classes, it's not an easy A but he wants you to do well and he makes the class interesting enough that you want to participate and do the work. Highly reccomend even if you aren't a journ major.
Teaches the material as well as real life experiences. Really good looking which is always a plus. He is understanding of outside circumstances as well. His testing is straightforward and as long as you go to class and pay attention you won't need the book.
great professor! class was very interesting. I was actually pretty excited to go to class every week! his tests are pretty easy. just pay attention in class. great professor all around!
I absolutely LOVE professor Dauber. Not only do I have the biggest crush on him, but he helped me realize my love for journalism. Cant wait to take his 202 & 218 class next semester. AMAZING!
Prof Dauber is sooo awesome. The best prof at Valley and one of the best I have ever had. He is so nice and has such a relaxed manner about him. He is hilarious! He pushes you to learn new things and let's you re-write articles for a higher grade. He is very fair in his grading. He treats you like an adult unlike other teachers. Highly recommended!
I took this class in Spring 2011 and it helped me eliminate clutter or too much information in my writing. I have always been a gifted writer but Dauber let me know that talent isn't everything. I got an A in this class and I earned it; this class is based on deadlines not attendance but don't take attendance for granted or you'll be SORRY!
Its a good class to take to learn the fundamentals of journalism and it prepares you for what you need to know. The only thing I didn't like how sometimes he would show up late or go off topic and talk about things that had nothing to do which is okay at times but damn does he like talking about golf..
Dauber is a fantastic teacher. He's very engaging, clear, and funny! If you show up, do your work, and take all of the tests, you will probably get an A! There is not very much homework for this class. He's the best teacher I've had thus far in college. Take this class!
He's a great teacher overall. If I have the chance I will take him again. There is a lot of book reading but if you do the book work you'll be destined to do well. He's very straight forward in his teaching.
Best teacher at LAVC. He is a great teacher, extremely knowledgable, and is hysterical. His classroom is very interactive, and he loves participation. Treats students with a lot of respect. If you need/want to take J101, I highly recommend him.
It's a pretty easy class with few assignments. Dauber is nice but missing in action most of the time. There is a lot of reading and writing. Tests consist of 4 essay questions. 6 quizzes, 4 exams (including the final), and 8 discussions worth 30 pts each.
Journalism is my major so this class was easy for me, but it didn't mean that I couldn't learn something from the best professor Los Angeles Valley College has in Dauber. If you think journalism is your calling or major then take this class, because Dauber gives some real world advice about the journalism that ANYONE can use.
Passionate, knowledgeable & experienced. Lectures involve class participation/opinions. HW: Writing assignments, research & reading. Tests: Essay questions with MC. Essays must have key words or it will not count, so take notes in class! Quizzes are T/F, but tricky. No extra credit! Class was fun, interesting & eye opening. Worked hard to get an A.
I can honestly say that I NEVER used anything or really paid attention to anything Bill Dauber said in any of his journalism classes and I still got A's or B's and I still have gotten many journalism gigs. His teaching style never appealed to me and the AP style book he tells you to buy is a WAY better teacher than he is.
For the last four years this newspaper class has been filled with a whole bunch of nobodies with below average writing skills. No one really reads or cares about the Valley Star and at fault is the so-called advisors, writers, and editors. The Valley Star needs new and better leadership, better writers, and accountability.
Took him online. He messed up a few times, but when he does he gives everyone full credit on the quizzes. Approximately bi-weekly discussions where you reply to a question and comment on 2 classmates's replies. Very little time commitment. Pretty easy. Would take again.
Dauber Beverly Hills Cop is a heck of a teacher, but the fact that I want to leave Los Angeles so bad is one of the reasons why I didn't take his class seriously in 2013. Now that I'm moving to Texas (in 2015) I will REALLY appreciate the fact that he was a great teacher. I may never have a journalism teacher as good as he was.
Take Professor Dauber if you have the chance to! He gives you great feedback, and truly helps you advance in your writing. Participate & attend his lectures- the quizzes and homework will come naturally.
Professor Dauber is an amazing professor!! He is great at what he does, and cares about the students success :) Journalism major or not, you won't regret taking his class. His tests and assignments are fun! See you Spring 2015, Journ 202 Professor :D
Recv'd "A" in Eng Grammar class (v1364) - Inspiring educator, real world experience, practical policies (can turn in assignments via email- INCLUDING FINAL), missed about 4 classes-never said a peep and made sure I knew of work assigned. Interesting and engaging speaker who enthusiastically encourages dialog between students. Overall: Excellent.
Professor Dauber is a good professor and person overall. He's not too hard as long as you know what you're assigned to know and he's pretty clear in his lectures. He's also pretty funny and his energy really gets the class going. If i were to take another journalism class id take him again. :)
He definitely knows his stuff! He can be a bit disorganized but overall I enjoyed his class very much, he is one of the most inspirational professors I've ever had. Show up to class, participate. Reading the assigned chapters in the textbook is definitely a must to pass the class. Had an 8am class whim but always looked forward to it! Take him :)
Easy class. Participate in the discussions, which weren't a lot, and do the quizzes and exams. Laid back teacher. Would probably take again in the future! Get the textbook, you'll need it for the exams!
Anticipated getting an A in the class, but got a B at the end. Good professor, he worked in the field so he knows what he's talking about. Great lectures. LOTS of reading. Make sure to get A's on the tests and PASS THE FINAL. Study, always study. He's very nice as well. You'll learn a lot in class. Great class and professor overall.
Dauber is a great guy, super nice& friendly. He knows what he does well, but the class wasn't too helpful. We never learned much in the class. If you aren't a good writer, don't expect to get the A. If you want to learn journalism, GCC is a better school w a better program. I went in loving journalism, & came out disliking it. BOOK NOT NEEDED.
I remember the class being pretty easy. The tests he does give are a little challenging but he gives plenty of time to finish them so it isn't impossible. The teacher is pretty laid back and is forgiving if you didn't understand something. I forgot to take a test because it completely crossed my mind and he let me take it after it closed. Amazing.
Super easy A! Graded by mostly group discussions that are opinion based. Some tests, just 2 essay questions based on book chapters. He tells you what to study and gives you plenty of time to take the tests. Very good with communication and lots of extra credit. I'd recommend him a hundred times over!
Professor Dauber was one of the absolute best professors I had during my time at LAVC. He truly wants his students to succeed and learn the basics of Journalism. He's not selfish in any way for being in the field that he is in. Dauber keeps it real and he's a very sweet person. Stern, but sweet. HIGHLY recommend! You'll learn from the best
Professor Dauber is a decent journalism professor, his 218-1 class is moderately hard due to minimal teaching and students are left to rely on an inexperienced editor in chief who is a student just like them. Most work is left to the students. Word of advice, defend your writing and transfer to a good journalism school.
Journal105 was a fairly simple class, I had a lot of fun. There is a textbook and tests on them but you can just read through the book while you take the test because its online and he allows for enough time. There are weekly discussion that are interesting and you need to participate in that. Fun class.
Good class. We only had 7 discussions, 4 exams, and one short assignment. He also gave us two chances to get extra credit. You need the book to do well on the exams, the ebook is about $35 on chegg. Great professor, but takes a long time to grade assignments.
Professor Dauber is a great lecturer, but is extremely disorganized. I didn't know my official grade until the last day of the semester. He doesn't update Canvas even if he says so in class, and oftenly leaves it up to you in order to figure out the details of assignments. The class isn't difficult, but it's made harder due to his lack of clarity.
Great guy! Very encouraging and gives good feedback on exams. The book is mandatory but its such an easy read, dont bother taking notes on it or else you wont focus on the material. He gives enough time on exams for you to go back in the book and look for the answers. Took this as a winter class and it was very manageable!
Professor Dauber is decent. His online class is based solely on several discussions and 4 exams. He is a somewhat tough grader. He expects that discussions and responses to classmates be posted early. If not, he deducts points. In my opinion, he doesnt do a great job at giving feedback on assignments unless you ask for it.
I left another school to learn from Dauber. Best decision. He is freelancer for The Washington Post and beyond qualified. Very encouraging, generous with his time, he actually looked at a couple of my articles over the summer. If you want feed back ask him because his door is always open. His classes are a lot of fun. Can't say enough good things
The best! So glad I got to take his classes. Low stress and I learned A LOT. His comments on my articles were fantastic. My writing improved so much. Great attitude and his classes are fun. I highly recommend this course.
Easy online class! Few discussions. Few tests. EASY A!
Prof. Dauber is a great. He is witty, inspirational and hilarious. His classes are always enjoyable as he always has a great attitude. He really does a great job at making a personal connection with each student. In just 1 semester Ive learned so much from him. If youre interested in ANY type of writing I highly recommend you take his class!
I loved every aspect of the class and overall great professor.
If you ever have the chance to take Professor Dauber, please do!! I took im for Journalism 105 as well and he's super easy and makes you want to learn. So good!
Professor Dauber is a wonderful professor! I took his class hybrid where I showed up for his lectures and did the assignments online or in class. I feel like I learned a lot. I came into this class not knowing what a lead is and came out of it writing Profiles and Crime Stories. He teaches you proper AP style, and different types of leads.
He is a great Professor. I took it as an honor student and have done additional assignments. This wasn't a hard class but it was interesting. Weekly discussion, also we had 3 quizzes, final exam, and research paper. Online without zoom.
I am sure that Professor Daubner is a fantastic professor, and I do hope to take a class of his in person at some point. That being said: I would avoid taking an online class with him. His canvas shell is difficult and confusing to navigate.
Professor Dauber is one of the best professors at LAVC, if you follow his direction you will get 100/100. Not a tough grader at all. I have 5 associate degrees from LACCD. I have taken over 200 units, he is one of the top 10 list professors I have ever met! A straightforward class that you can understand journalism.
Prof. Dauber was very cool! I took Jour 105 as an honors class. There weren't many discussions or HW assignments; the grading was very exam based. The exams were mostly short essay questions (timed), so you really need to be prepared with being able to compare/contrast the historical information that comes from the book. Study his notes, too! :)
I took him for fall but he is okay he assigns notes but a bit off sometimes. Expect some quizzes and he'll make you do a lot of papers out of different topics. He takes leads serious and answers your questions a few hours before something is due. His final was a quiz of 20 questions on terms we learned on the semester.
took him for 8 weeks & asynchronous, there is a paragraph discussion every week & exam, discussions are pretty easy but you cant write your post & mandatory 2 responses to other classmates on the same day which can be kind of annoying but just make sure u don't forget. most of the exams are around 2 paragraphs for 3 questions, 4 questions for final
Prof Dauber's J105 class is a solid option - mostly exams with some easy discussion posts. The textbook is useful, and Unstuckstudy is a great study tool alongside it. Overall a manageable course with an engaging instructor.
I 10000% recommend Professor Dauber, he is one of the best professor's I have ever met. He truly cares about his students success, his feedback and advise truly helped with my writing skills. Professor Dauber is very understanding and will reply to any messages and help you with whatever needs you may have.
