LOOKS LIKE BILL GATES...IN A DORKY WAY WILL HELP YOU OUT A LOT IF YOU COMMUNICATE W/ HIM
No Comments
One of my least favorite teachers in one of my least favorite classes. Took forever to cover material and wasted time with idiotic jokes.
He's a crazy teacher. I liked his class. My other POSI teacher was boring compared to him. If you go to class then your bound to pass the class. He give hints on whats going to be on the tests basically every class day. So don't miss out on class.
Very helpful...& nice if you go to class you can pass...he will learn your name and help you out a lot if you talk to him.

He's Goofy! He made class sort of interesting. He gives lots of extra credit and if your in class you get bonus points. He's kind of funny, but sometimes has to go through things in a hurry because he gets off track. And he loves speaking spanish.
He is an ok teacher, but has no authority with his class. Conversations are going on all over the place and its hard to hear and understand him cause he doesnt tell anyone to stop talking.
His class is intended for the who just drifts along content with a C or D average. If you're interested in actually learning, don't bother taking his course. That being said, he's very nice and approachable; and his test come straight from the study guide. Very easy, but not worthwhile.

He is a good professor and one of the few that genuinly cares for his students.
likes athletes.. good guy.. put in the work and it's easy
Easy class.......just show up and you'll get an A.
He's is a great teacher and a great person. I worked with him in the POSI office and I took his class. He is kinda odd, but very helpful is you need it.
He is a GREAT teacher! Just do the readings and the work (easy papers) and ask questions in his class and he will love you!
He is a strange professor, but it is an easy class. My only problem is how he kept saying he was Bill Gates twin.
He is unclear and rambles on.
He's a really nice guy. Kind of out there, but very into helping his students and very nice. I don't think his tests are all that easy just because he doesn't put a lot of the material he covers in class. His reviews aren't that good. He's overly nice, but his class isn't as easy as you'd think.
I have taken 4 classes w/ him. Great guy. Lectures tend to stray off on tangents, yet they're laughable (whether laughing w/ or at him). Read the material, chat w/ him, talk in class a bit and you'll get an A. Highly approachable.
Goofiest guy you'll ever have. Keeps lectures interesting just with his funny and sometimes weird personality. Gives extra credit for attendance even though it doesn't help much to go to class. Easy A if you put the effort towards it and don't see it as too much of blow off class. Study his lecture and go to study sessions with his TA. Take hi
He is an AMAZING professor. He's so funny and makes things really easy to understand. Clay, the TA also makes things really easy. Both are willing to help with anything. Awesome class. Definitely recommend it to those who have to take posi.
Yes, he is goofy. Goes off on tangents, but always comes back to the point. Easy one sentence quizzes, and has bluebook tests. Very engaging and if you like somewhat straight forward (no scatter brained) professors who stick to the point then DON'T take this class.Show up, speak up, do minimal work and succeed in this class. Easy to zone-out in tho
I'm currently taking my second class with him & he's fantastic! He is brilliant, funny, and tells silly jokes that help you pay attention. His class is also very fair. TAKE HIM!
AWESOME professor! He's as crazy as they come but somehow it works. Rambles, but extremely amusing. Gives very fair tests and quizzes sometimes. Rewards attendance. Extremely friendly towards students. Definitely reccommended, I plan on taking Party Politics with him in the fall.
One of the nicest guys you will ever meet. Once he learns your name he won't forget it. He lights up when you have something interesting to say in class. Makes you feel invested in learning and is an extremely easy grader if you try. Class isn't mandatory for getting a good grade, but it's usually worth it to go. Easy quizzes and essay/ID tests.
He's a great guy that is very interested in his students and his class. I would take him again in a heartbeat. A little goofy but the class (Party Politics) is interesting and pretty easy. I would definitely recommend taking him.
Powerpoints are a disaster. Never posts grades, powerpoint slides, or syllabus. Does not give out rubrics for papers or projects. Lectures are just long rambles. Completely pointless class.
NONE BIAS REVIEW: I enjoy the professor, he is really quirky and cool. However, his lectures are scattered and unorganized. He will make you leave class wondering what the main points of the lecture are. He does quizzes based on readings, which are somewhat boring and hard to pay attention to. Overall, cool guy, not the best professor.
Desoto truly cares for his students and will go out of his way to check up on you! His lectures are scattered, but theyre on powerpoints that you can go relook at. There are 25 quizzes that are based on readings and the test essay questions usually come from the quizzes. 2 tests, 2 papers, 25 quizzes, and a class group project. Hes an easy A or B.
Dr. Desoto is an awesome human being. His PPTs are a little disorganized but he assigns a lot of relevant articles from which he gives a quiz. Books are also assigned. Make sure you get the quiz points. Tests are usually one essay and identifying 5 IDs from the PPTs. You can write a paper in lieu of group work. Not easy but most definitely doable.
Desoto is a cool guy, he always talked to us before class and actually knew our names and remember things about us. His lectures are little boring and scattered and he gets off on loads of tangents. His tests are easy if you look at the powerpoints and the quizzes are easy if you do the readings. Overall a great class and would take him again
Desoto is a great guy, He knew my name and actually talked to me and others in the class. the tests are easy if you go over the powerpoints. the quizs were easy if you did the readings. overall a very chill class but i learned a lot about political parties in America and around the world.
Easy professor. Awkward, but he's really sweet. Quizzes are used for extra credit so try your best. You can get away with a lot so keep that in mind.
Dr. Desoto is very kind and remembers everyone's names. You do have to read a lot because you have a quiz each time class meets but they are pretty easy questions. I really enjoyed his class!
Although he is very nice and knowledgeable, he is not organized in his lectures and he has a syllabus with assignment dates but doesn't follow it. A lot of quizzes over readings, but readings are fairly interesting. He would be a great professor if he had organization, its hard to keep up with someone that does not have a clear path.
Absolutely loved having Prof. DeSoto. While his reading assignments can become lengthy at times, He does an exceptional job tying the readings into the class. Short answer quizzes are given for the reading and are often easy if you have done the reading. Easily the most caring professor at the University. Wants each student to succeed. TAKE HIM
Loved him!!! Would take him again!
Super nice guy, there is some reading, but no more than a normal class. Very responsive over email and there are some big papers but they aren't too difficult if you like the subject. One of my favorite professors. Not a very difficult class if you're interested in political parties.
Professor DeSoto is a great professor, who truly cares about his students. There are very few professors that actually care about how your other classes are going, and he is always asking how all of our other classes are going. For Party Politics there are three papers due at the end of the semester, and 10 quizzes given throughout the semester.
He's such an easy going professor and pretty easy. He's a quiz heavy professor but if you write anything he'll still give you partial credit. There's a lot of books/articles assigned but they're easy reads. He's very personable and a sweet old man I would totally take him again
DeSoto is my favorite teacher by far. Its my second time taking him and I would take his class a third time. Class is super easy, there is a good amount of reading but he is a super lenient grader. He truly cares about his students. Take home final and tests are easy :)
He is truly the nicest professor I have ever had. Admittedly the material is redundant but he really knows his stuff and cares about you as an individual. He will make an effort to know your name and call you by it every class. He gives a lot of quizzes (8 over the semester) but everything is found on TRACS and you wont need to buy anything.
I have had Dr. De Soto for two graduate classes. Hes not a tough grader but I still learned an insane amount in both classes. He assigns a lot of reading but I liked reading because he always gave so much positive feedback in class to the people that did read. He genuinely cares about his students and is the sweetest professor Ive ever had.
He is one of the best professors in the polisci department. He really cares about his students. He is really smart and knows his stuff, lectures are great. Pretty easy class just do the assignments. I will say you do have to do a lot of work but it really isnt hard. I would take him again for sure.
Dr. De Soto is a great professor. He tries really hard to engage students and you can tell he really enjoys teaching and its his passion. There isnt a whole lot of homework and its not worth that much, but you should do it. There are also 4 quizzes as well. I would definitely take him for POSI again if I was a POSI major. He likes to crack jokes
Professor DeSoto is a fun professor to listen to. He always tries to relate topics to students and asks fun questions while relating it to his presentation slides. His tests are based mainly directly off of his lecture presentations. He always makes sure to point out important things to know during the lectures.
This professor is so genuine and truly cares for his students. There are 5 tests and your lowest won't count. There is not much homework, but the homework he gives is easy. If you go to class, he will tell you exactly what will be on the test and what to study for. 10/10 would take again.
Okay I did poorly in this course but that was entirely my fault. Professor DeSoto is so kind and caring. If you are not doing your best, he will give you so many chances because as he tells you "he wants to see you succeed." Not the best lecturer but he is open minded and genuinely cares about his students and their growth.
He is so nice. Do take him.
Great professor! Very clear about what you will be tested on. Also an AMAZING person. Very genuine, caring, kind, and funny. My favorite professor at Texas State without a doubt.
This is my first time taking him and he is great! If you can't make it to class he can do Zoom! He is very caring and he lectures using power points. He has 7 quizzes (Not very hard you just have to read pdfs to study for it) and one essay. Will be taking another course with him if available! 10/10
Professor DeSoto is one of the nicest men you will ever meet! He really cares about his students and wants to get to know you personally. His class is easy if you just come to class. There are four main tests that are a breeze and a few Mcgraw hill homework that have little weight when it comes to your grade.
Most wholesome prof I've had here. He is so genuinely kind and cares about his students and their wellbeing. He can get a little off topic/all over the place during lecture but he tells you what you'll be tested on and offers extra credit as well as review sessions. So cute he brings stickers & candy for participating and wants to see you succeed.
If you can TAKE HIM!!! Sweetest guy ever, and he is so knowledgeable. You can tell he loves what he does and loves his students. If I ever get the chance to take him again I will. Offers zooms for people who can't go in person, doing the hw(very easy) is extra credit, zoom review session for the test, and he passes stickers and candies each class
I think he had great intentions and he is a very kind person, but as a professor, he needs help with his lecturing and PowerPoint. I get off track easily, so when he would talk about random stuff it had me confused. The tests are pretty easy if you study, but you kinda have to teach yourself with this professor which I didn't really enjoy.
The grade is based on 4 tests with an optional final. Homework assignments are worth 5 extra points on tests. Lectures are kind of boring but tests are not that hard. Offered zoom lectures as well.
Professor DeSoto is one of the sweetest professors I've ever had. His only grades are the 4 exams and 1 final, but his lectures and powerpoints really give you everything you need to pass his class easily. If you find yourself struggling he is extremely accommodating happy to work out your confusion. Highly recommend!
Dr. DeSoto really cares about his students. He tries to make learning fun and brings candy and stickers for those that answer questions right. You have the option to attend class on zoom if you prefer that. Make sure you study really hard because he only counts the exams for your grade & the hw as extra credit for the exam.
He is so genuinely kind and cares. He can get a little off topic/all over the place during lecture but he tells you what you'll be tested on. Offers zooms for people who can't go in person, doing the hw(very easy) is extra credit, zoom review session for the test.
Desoto is a great professor as well as person. Grade is just based on 4 exams and an optional final which replaces your lowest exam score. Homework was e/c on exams. We had to use Zoom one day because of inclement weather and every class after that he let us attend on Zoom. He brought candy and stickers to class for the people who went in person.
Changed his grading policy a week or two into the semester to make it all test based. Did offer 5 extra points per normal test, but was still risky nonetheless. Goes off topic when giving lectures and since will not do good on the tests unless you do serious out of study time. I might have gotten the same grade if I attended none of the lectures.
A solid established professor. Knows a lot about politics and the course. He has been at TXST since before I was born. If I was a political science student I would take another class of his. He can be a little off track on lectures but everything is on the powerpoint. GA offered study reviews to clear any confusion.
If you are not a fan of political science, take this course! The professor is so sweet and even brings candy and stickers if you answer his questions. If you did not want to attend class, he had a zoom to watch his fun lectures. Course is graded by the exams, but they're super essay and if you attend the TA's study guide, you will get a definite A.
Enjoyed taking Lobbies! He is so kind and truly enjoys teaching, and learning himself from students! TAKE HIM! everything on the 6 quiz is on his readings/ news articles! Fair grader, and class is offered via zoom if you can not make it! 6 quiz, 1 five page paper, and a take home final. One of the best at Texas State!
if you cannot study without a study guide then DON'T take this professor. Yes he's nice and funny but his lectures are very boring and he often rambles too much. Since there is no study guide, I had to rely on the McGraw Hill assignments to study but it's not enough when you take the tests.
While he is very nice his lectures are beyond boring. Best thing about him is he offers his class through zoom, also the exams are pretty bad, not hard just bad.
Rambles pretty much the entire lecture, maybe 1/5 of the lecture is him actually teaching. No study guide either. All the good reviews gotta be because the class is usually super easy, if he decides to actually post his lectures on canvas before the test.(sometimes he doesnt)
Professor DeSoto's class wasn't hard at all. Lecture wasn't mandatory and he offered class on Zoom but tests were in person on paper. Tests were super easy and straightforward and he even drops one so the final is optional. Lectures not at all interesting but he always has a need to know for the test slide that was literally what was on the test
Amazing professor, so funny and lectures are entertaining take him
this teacher is so hilarious and always makes coming to class fun. i dont normally like POSI but he is such a caring teacher who always gives his all. grade based on mcgraw hills and then 4 tests (drops the lowest one). just read the slides he sends out and study before and youll do fine. cant stress enough how caring he is,truly makes my day!!
He is really funny and makes lectures entertaining. He offers the class on zoom everyday so you aren't required to attend in person. As long as you complete the mcgraw hill assignments and study the slides before the test, you will do good. I would take this class again.
Professor DeSoto was an amazing professor. He was very sweet and caring for all his students. Attendance is not mandatory, and he offers the class on zoom instead of coming in person. The only thing is that he didn't quite follow the organization of the syllabus but always let everyone know when the quizzes and papers will be due. Would take again!
Literally the sweetest man ever, he is so caring and is willing to help you.
he goes on tangents often but was very knowledgeable in class. exams are 80% of your final grade with one being dropped. he was very reliant on his TA who had messed up the grades on canvas for over half the semester, my high a dropped to low b at the end of November when he realized.
Solid professor. Sometimes he goes on about random things, but overall he's pretty interesting. He gives out candy and stickers for showing up to class and says pretty much exactly what will be on tests during lectures. If you don't like gov that much, take his class. Super sweet guy!
If I'm being honest, you can skip all the lectures, memorize the key points from the ppts to get a minimum B. Otherwise, he keeps his lectures interesting and the course material isn't too difficult. He's very nice as well and gives out stickers during lectures if you care about that stuff.
LOVED him. such a great prof and funny and caring person. very open minded and just couldnt express it enough to take prof de soto.
The class is easy, for us he had a zoom option to join class so there was rarely anyone in lecture, the rest of us watched from zoom. He had no problem explaining concepts if we were having trouble understanding them. He does have a slight tendency to go on tangents which can be a little irritating (but they're kinda funny)
Professor DeSoto is honestly a big teddy bear. He does offer class on zoom and from a personal opinion it was easier to hear him on zoom. At the beginning of each class, he gives you the main topics to know for the test so that became very helpful. The 2nd test will be the hardest, but the others are pretty easy, the final is optional.
I loved him so so much! I had a friend recommend I take him and I am very glad I did. His lectures are funny and interesting. You technically don't need to come to class to pass the tests, but I think that coming to class helps you actually learn the information. He would also bring stickers to give out, and sometimes snacks. Favorite professor!
DeSoto is a very easy going professor. He's friendly and likes what he's teaching, which makes it easier to pay attention to his lectures. He can sometimes ramble and get off topic and don't skip class thinking you can just study his slides, since they make zero sense without him to lecture over it.
DeSoto isn't a bad guy, but his course is a joke. Even when we HAD a study guide, the questions were basically just trivia that had nothing to do with the study guide or the lectures. The lectures are also not very helpful, as he rambles on and on about absolutely nothing which makes it very easy to miss what actually matters.
DeSoto is the sweetest man ever but his lectures are jokes. If you aren't the type of student to sit front row and be a "teachers pet" then lectures feel useless. He just started giving "study guides" but they weren't even. The study guides and tests don't align at all and neither do his slides. Even if you do attend class, he rambles A LOT.
comprehensive lectures and max 3-4 mcgrawhill assignments per unit which are just reviews and fluff for your grade. attend lecture (which you can do on zoom) and pay attention to him (he tells you answers on the exam multiple times), and youre good. the only people who dont do well in this class dont listen to him and dont review before the exam
Professor Desoto is a great person who cares deeply for each of his student. He likes to get off topic in lectures which can be frustrating at times but overall made the material as interesting as he could. Only complaint is that the exams can be difficult. But you can afford to mess up once because the final replaces the lowest test grade.
The professor is a nice guy, however, nothing he teaches aligns with the test. I would study heavily, and reardless of what i would study, it would never align with the tests he gave out. Extremely frustrating, and i would not reccomend him.
To be completely honest, I didn't even attend classes for half of the semester and still managed to get an A. Just be willing to study the materials he gives out before the exams thoroughly, and you'll be fine on the tests. The homework is through Mcgraw Hill, which is what it is. He's super nice though and is willing to connect with students.
He lectures all class period and it feels like I never learn anything whenever I leave. He gets off track 75% of the lecture and it's hard to stay intrigued and interested. Side note, make sure to always complete the online homework before the due date because he will NOT let you attempt to turn it in late, no matter what you say.
Gets off topic a lot, but offers online as well as in-person. If you attend in-person lecture and use the study guide, you will pass the exams and class. Really funny guy.
He's a nice guy, but his lectures are not worth your time if you want to actually learn. He frequently gets off topic, has very confusing and unorganized PowerPoint presentations, numerous tests, and no extra credit. Attendance is not technically mandatory because he allows you to join lecture over zoom, but it pays off to try.
He is a great guy who is actually exited about teaching, he does mostly read over slides but he shows great enthusiasm. The class is mostly centered around the exams and not really homework. But its an easy class to pass
This class is easy and Professor DeSoto is super nice. He offers in person class along with class on zoom. Attendance is not mandatory but he gives out incentives during class for those who attend in person. The class is mainly graded on your exams which is the only "bad" part.
Professor is unorganized, does not stay on topic, nor stick to time schedules. He rambles a lot making it hard to know what's important information.
One of the most chill professors in the whole school. Very quirky but in a good way, although sometimes he can ramble a bit. Attendance was required, but you had the option to attend class via zoom. The tests are extremely easy, I would recommend to take notes in class as his study guides are not the most thorough.
Desoto is a very funny proffesor although i dont reccomend him, his class is test heavy , 80% of your grade to be exact. dont take him if u want an A
He's a really chill and funny guy. The tests are so easy (mostly true or false questions) and homework is super light. He gives out presents for answering questions in class. Personally didn't attend lecture since the first test but showed up for every test after and got a B. Awesome guy
