Funny, easy professor who is open with his comments to the class. Energetic!

Hes good and he keeps it real!
Fun class. The tests are not easy, but bearable.
Difficult knowing what to take notes on. Tests were hard. Interesting though.
very interesting, tells awesome stories, if you go to class tests are easy
HE IS AWESOME

interesting guy/ great lecture. tests kind of hard, but ok if you take good notes
He is awesome.

His tests are essay, but they aren't bad. Once you learn how Donner works and what he wants it'll be easier. He does require you to write at least one paper, but allows you to rewrite it. Don't take him if you don't wanna do the readings.
Donner is an avergae man who only understands those who think like him. I never liked doing this before, but he thinks regurgitation is mandatory. If you don't write exactly what he thinks on tests, say hello mister zero.
easy b or a if you study. cool guy, laid back tells alot of stories.
Pretty good teacher. Relates a lot of the course concepts to his own anthropolical studies. Interesting class.
great course, interesting lectures. i saw something on tv about both maiori AND sikyanna (sp?) the other day and knew all about their marriage and family structures thanks to this class i took 2 years ago!
worst teacher i've ever had. i concur with the "average man" comment. if you have your own opinions dont' take him.
Easy Class. Hard Tests.
Nice guy, does like you to share his opinion. he is however VERY knowlegable. class is interesting and you will get a b for not that much effort. dont skip class though.
He is one of the better anthro profs. He is very clear on his lectures and gives you a tip sheet of everything that will be on his tests. Can't skip class though or your screwed.
He's tolerable if you stay on his good side, so come to class ON TIME for the quizzes (read your book) and do the paper. This is not an empathetic professor. He probably wants to be there less than you.
expects too much when it's just a gen ed for most people. don't challenge his opinion if you're a girl. he'll hate you.
Brilliant man. He gives some good analogies. You can tell he's an expert in his field - he really knows what he's talking about. I find culture and human behavior to be interesting, and I'll probably take one of his higher level courses in the future.
I wouldn't recommend him. He's intimidating when he's in a GOOD mood. He doesn't explain what he wants at all.
He's awesome
In a class meant to foster a nonjudgemental attitude toward other cultures, he's pretty aggressie that his opinions are the RIGHT ones. Don't expect for the condescending / derogatory comments to end after the first week. Please take another prof.
Very strict, but nice as long as you folllow the rules

He seems knowledgable and yet down-to-earth. I thought the first test was hard, but I got a 96%. I like when he tells stories or jokes to the class. Taking notes in that class is easy, too. Most of the time, he writes them on the board, anyway.
He gives pop quizzes sometimes, and allows you to choose between multiple choice or short answer tests. He was alright, got an A, but he can be an ass at times- do not be late to class. He makes you do a stupid 10 page paper, but you can BS it
Donner is awesome, he cracks me up! Don't take him if you dont like writing papers - his classes can be a challenge but they're pretty interesting. I would recommend him for higher level courses, not the basics.
This man was awesome. I get bored very easily, but he could keep my attention. He's only offensive if you take things too seriously. Otherwise, he's hysterical.

He's an awsome teacher. He explains things in class so well that you don't need to go and see him during office hours, but if you do he is very helpful and puts the time in if you need it. He curves if you go to class and participate. My favorite professor and will take him again if possible.
he was a hard ass
He's a great teacher, he lectures pretty much every class but he makes it really interested cause it's alot of stories from when he traveled. He doesn't like you to be late but doesn't get on you too bad. He makes a list up for tests but don't miss class too much, thats why I got a D.
good teacher, tough paper grader
Boring!! I fell asleep almost daily. If I had to hear one more thing about the island he lived on I was going to jump out the window. I'm sure he set those people back 1000 years.
I like Dr Donner! He can come across as a jerk at first but he's really just a dry, funny guy! Don't take this class unless you are a good paper writer and/or are willing to put a lot of time and effort into your research project.
He's so funny. He has so much experience and he makes class so interesting. I barely have to study. If u listen in class, you'll do fine on the tests. reading helps too if u wanna do REALLY good...He gives 2 choices for tests. Mulitple choice or 5 short answers and lets u pick AFTER he tells u what the short answer topics are. gr8 class. gr8 prof!!
Talked way too much about his divorce and his bitterness with his family of "rich doctors," not enough about Anthropology. The lectures were too slow and "dumbed down" for my tastes.
Donner is hard as balls. He's a real cool guy but I think he's too smart for his own good. Definetly not a walk in the park.
Awesome professor! The guy has a sense of humor...probably too smart for his own good. Interesting stories about Sikianna. Tests are very hard...if you study his study guide you'll be fine.
Donner is SOOO boring. And he's way too bitter, always complaining about his ex-wife and his successful sisters. He makes sure you come to class by giving you written assignments. You don't really need to read the books, although they do help. I thought he was pretty easy but I'd avoid him if possible.
No lie, this is my best proffessor for the semester. He very well knows his material and uses that to provide and interesting way of teaching. He keeps me interested and awake at 9AM. Very fun and very cool proffessor who will keep the class interested.
I thought this class would be interesting, but it really isn't. He gives poor notes. He tells you what he wants on an assignment AFTER he grades it, which is irritating. Very negative person. Tells you your opinion is wrong.
Good prof, all you really need to do is pay attention to what he says and take good notes...Study the guide he gives b4 the test and go to class and you will be fine...he is a bit bitter about his successful sisters though and thats kinda sad...
Very interesting, take good notes (you can skip and get them and be fine), dont read the text but do read the stories (they are usualy on the tests), best teacher I had this semester, tests are mutiple choice or short answer, personaly I think the short answer is easier.
He talks about Sikiana (sp) a lot lol. But he's a pretty good professor. His class is easy if you read the book and the stories because tests are mainly from the two books. Always choose the essay tests, they're so much easier than the multiple choice. He needs a hug though, came off a little bitter about his divorce and rich family members.
AMAZING! Very educated about anthopology. Fantastic sense of humor. He can be offensive if you can't take a joke and if that applies to you then don't take him. Save the seats for all of us who love him. He isn't afraid to say ANYTHING and ends up in the provost's office a lot but KU should NEVER get rid of him. KU is lucky to have this guy.

While he does tend to focus on Sikaiana, he has some pretty good stories, and shows he has experience. If you show up and stay awake during classes, you should do well, in the A/B range. Only problem is that he goes on for sometimes a whole class on Sikaiana. My favorite professor this semester!
This guy's a jerk, and he knows it. Taught pretty much the same lecture every class, it was incredibly boring. Lots of details about stuff nobody cares about, and says pretty much the same things about every person he teaches about, which makes tests impossible. It's hard to motivate yourself to show up, let alone stay awake.
Donner awesome. definatly an easy A. I took him for a gen ed requirement easiest class ive taken he makes anthro fun and uses real life examples great prof!
took Cultural Anthro as a Gen Ed requirement... funniest teacher I have EVER had. Great guy, really speaks his mind, would be amazing if he didn't teach in a lecture hall, but he took it well. The tests are easy if you review the tip sheets and go to class. His lectures are hilarious but true, wish I brought a tape recorder.
VERY HARD CLASS!!! Some of the students did really well but i had a hard time everything he talks about in class is completely useless. You have to really read the book if u want to do well. I even got a tutor but it didnt help and he doesnt give extra credit.
Donner is a great professor. He tells a ton of stories about different experiences realting to the class. His lectures are interesting and his tests are easy if you attend class and read Kottak. If you don't go to class you most likely won't pass the exams. I reccomend him to anyone that needs or wants to take this class.
Really speaks his mind, which often turns out to be funny. Easy to listen to, just take notes and do his test reviews and you'll pass. Be prepared for LOTS of Sikaiana stories. =)
interesting class, but you must study in order to get a good grade
Read your book and go to class!! If you like anthropology, he's a great teacher, but if you're taking it for a gen ed, you may want to see if you can get another person. He's a very nice guy, very helpful, and has awesome stories of his experiences on Sikaiana. The test questions are normally half book, half notes, so you NEED to go to class.
he can be very offesnive to sensitive people, he tells alot of stories of experiences and tries to make the class as interesting as possible, even though it might not be. he gives you a tip sheet for every test which helps alot, but his tests are sort of hard!
He is a very nice guy ..curses alot with BS *lol* makes the class interesting by really saying what's on his mind :) I would recommend him...tells alot of info about Sikaiana ;)
Best professor I've had so far! Extremely funny, slightly offensive which makes it more interesting. Make sure you write down what he says and read the book. He makes you want to wake up and go to class just to see what else he will say and do.
Very intelligent, nice, and occasionally very funny. His tests are somewhat difficult, but if you read Kottak and take notes you'll do fine. He has alot of stories of his experiences in Sikaiana and uses these to explain theories. He also can sometimes come across as offensive, so don't take anything he says too personally.
By far my fav. prof!! He can be offensive but it makes the class interesting! He has good stories and they normally tie into his lessons, tests are easy if you attend class and read your notes, he is a great prof and I would recommend him to anyone!
He is a really good teacher and explains his notes in depth. His tests will be hard if you do not attend class and read the chapters in the book. He is also a very funny teacher which makes the class more fun.
bill is that uncle that brings all the kids around the camp fire and tells them the awe-filled stories of his youth; he is also the uncle that doesn't care that he is talking to a twelve year old about sex drug and rock & roll, all while peppering in the f-bomb for good meassure. awesome teacher, even cooler person, he has many great stories.
This class was easy, I was hoping it would be a little more interesting, he never lets you out early pretty much. The tests are okay, I would just make sure to show up to class, then you will def do fine.
this guy is easy. he cares about your grade and wants you to do well. he is really freaking wierd, but his classes are easy A's.
Awesome teacher, uses interesting stories and colorful language to get your attention. If you take notes in class and skim over the chapters you should get an A. Highly recommend.
Donner isn't a terrible teacher, but you have to be willing to listen to his stories that don't make much sense until the last 2 minutes. The intro Sociology course is pretty simple, especially if you have him because he is not normally a soc. prof. He also uses some vulgar language so if you are easily offended I wouldn't suggest taking his class
A little hard on grading, but definitely a very good teacher. Definitely read the text books and attend class. He definitely makes you think outside the box. Highly suggested.
He is ridiculous. He goes on and on about Sikaina. He makes me want to wake up in the morning and go right back to sleep. His tests are difficult. The questions are a paragraph long, by the time you get to the end you forget what the question was.
Great class and great professor. You don't even have to read the book and you can get an A you just have to go to class and listen. And everything he talks about is very interesting and catches your attention. Highly recommend this professor and this course for a gen ed. From what I hear it easier than both sociology and psychology.
so funny and intresting, great stories that hold attention but his tests are hard and if you dont attend class it will effect you on tests because his stories are on them. overall good teacher
He's not a bad prof., boring maybe, but not bad. You have to attend class, much of what he says, is on the tests. He's got his funny moments, but the rest are boring. He's ok though.
I am enjoying Professor Donner's Cultural Anthropology class. His own experiences make the class interesting and he seems to have a lot of cool experiences to talk about. Follow along in the textbook and attend class and it is esy to understand the material and pass the tests. He is my favorite professor so far and I look forward tohis lectures
Dr. Donner is overall a very good professor but he gets stuck on certain topics and can make class drag on! He gives opportunities for extra credit which is great! If you take him you'll take a lot of notes!
Awesome professor. Very intelligent. I had his sociology/anthropology cross cultural class of marriage and families over the winter break online and loved it. You must do lots of work, but it pays off. He wants students to do well so you have opportunities to revise your papers for higher grades. Definitely take his class :)
The only reason I took an anthropology class with him is because of all the good reviews I read on this site...boy was I misinformed. Yeah Dr. Donner is easy (how hard can intro level anthropology be?) but he rambles on about uninteresting and irrelevent topics the entire class! Simply put, not all of these reviews are as acurate as they seem...
This professor is absolutely wonderful! He has lots of real life examples that he uses in class. He really makes the class interesting and genuienly wants to teach you something new. His tests aren't hard but the material from class is on then too. I deffinietly reccomend this class and this professor to anybody!
Donner's alright. He gives the study guide early and tells you exactly what's going to be on the test so as long as you fill that out you'll do fine. Other than that his class is pretty boring and he talks about his anthropological trip all the time and none of it ends up on the test. Easy class though.
BORING. Doesn't even talk about course material. Show up if you want. (I wouldn't.)
Very dull class, rambles on about saikianna a lot, but is relatively easy if you study
This teacher was hard that I took a tutor for his class. The test are hard and every question is like a paragraph long that you forgot what was the Q about. Lecture is all about Sikiana and nothing relate to the topic about the stuff we are learning. You really need to study in the class.
Course was unreasonably hard for a level 010 class. Tests were all short answer and essay that took a week to prepare for. Very hard grader as well. No assignments - just three papers and two exams. This class made me more stressed than my major courses. Avoid this class. He is arrogant, condescending, and boring.
He is a great professor. As long as you show up to class and listen to the lecture, you don't even have to study for the exams. Didn't even buy the textbook. It's an easy A. Talks a lot about Sikianna but mostly interesting. I would definitely recommend him and take him again! Oh and don't show up late to class, he WILL call you out.
Never show up late or he will call you out. Sat in the back and fell asleep often, didn't buy either of the text books, and still passed the class with an A. Everything he talked about was very interesting and he was never uncomfortable to talk about controversial topics. Not many people liked him but I thought he was a great professor.

Donner was my favorite teacher this semester. He's a great professor and makes his lectures very engaging. He talked a lot about Sikaiana, and after a while that got annoying, but other than that he's great and I highly recommend him.
Donner is a cool guy but its a very hard class
Donner is so great! He's a really nice professor and really knows how to make the lecture interesting and lively, never had a dull moment in class. I recommend taking his classes! You won't regret it, tests aren't terribly difficult and there's barely any homework minus some readings, but they don't really matter often anyways
Donner is a pretty basic professor. He lectures, you take notes, and as long as you study those notes you should be fine. He'll tell you about Sikaiana and talk to you about it frequently. He makes anthropology sound incredible! Listening to him talk about his experiences make his class fun and enjoyable. I would absolutely recommend. 10/10
He expects you to read texts about specific topics and he also expects you to write 3 papers in the short period of time of the winter course. We have 4 discussion due every week. The readings are boring and unclear. He is a tough grader with the papers and it seems like your work is never good enough for him. The tests are difficult too. STAY AWAY
I liked Donners class, but barely ever went. He was interesting to listen to though honestly and I probably would have went if I didn't have a full schedule of classes for my major. There were only 3 tests with an option to take a 4th if you go to most of the classss. I'm not a great test taker but still passed with a B. Take him!
Although a very interesting class with material that you'll want to engage in, Donner himself can sometimes rub you the wrong way. He doesn't care if he offends you and he'll let you know, but if you look past his cold opinionated heart you can learn some really interesting things.
I find that he is extremely knowledgable and well equipped. He is very supportive and wants to see his students become successful even after they graduate. His class inspired me to venture off to South Korea and further my career in Applied Linguistics. I enjoy cultures and languages; therefore, Dr. Donner was a great mentor for my career.
He doesn't give out homework, but he gives 4 tests and they have about 100 questions maybe a little more on it. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you aren't doing well then he won't help you. Overall, he's an awesome teacher and he's funny as well. I definitely recommend him.
Knowledgeable guy but it is hard to pay attention to him. He says Um or uh about every other word. Does not care if he offends anyone and he will tell you that. He will call you out for using your phone or coming late and wont let down.
There are 4 tests & a participation grade. He gives an optional final to replace your lowest grade. He gives two extra credit opportunities worth 10 pts each. He will call you out if you're on your phone/late. He uses clickers and some of the exact, word for word questions are on the test. He isn't that interesting to listen to. He's okay.
The lectures are interesting but can get very boring very fast. Attendance is not mandatory but he goes over everything that will be on the tests in class. Do not buy the text book you won't use it. He is a very understanding guy if you ever need extra help outside of class.
Buy the book, he isn't great at explaining things and the extra info is needed for tests. Read the readings assigned, use the clicker, get a tutor, don't skip class or you will miss a lot. There wasn't any homework, projects or papers. Just 4 tests. He makes a study guide for them. Bring a laptop for notes. He talks really fast.
Great professor. One of the few profs at Kutztown that know how to entertain students during their lecture. He makes the class fun and interesting. Very fair grader + occasionally curves. Also, he has a great personality. I highly recommend.
Donner is one of my favorite professors. He's an intelligent guy and is clear about what he wants and how he grades. You definitely have to study, but he is willing to help you if you need it. Definitely would take any class offered by him.
These classes are mostly lectures. He is very funny, but he is a little strange and he tends to be very blunt about things, which I personally find refreshing. He uses online resources, so you don't have to buy a textbook, but he does want you to buy a clicker. If you show up to class late, or you're on your phone or talking he will call you out.
Donner is an okay professor. I took him because I needed Anthro, it wasn't my favorite class but I can promise it wasn't the best. He rants a lot and the first day he told us he has 10 year so he'll say whatever he wants and he'll offend us, trust me he will do that. But overall, it's an easy class to get by as long as you read and study for tests.
this class isnt hard but the course load is way to heavy for a gen ed. There's lot of assignments that involve visiting different places or interviewing people which would be cool if as a college student you had time to do that which many of us dont. Donner is ok, wouldn't take him again. books are helpful for midterm and final but thats it.
just didn't personally like him, he was never clear in what he would talk about in class, and then make us feel bad for not understanding anything
Dr. Donner is a really funny guy. His lectures are interesting and easy to understand. The material isn't hard and neither are the exams. Attendance is taken with an iclicker and if you have good attendance you get to take an extra credit final at the end to boost your grade. Overall an easy class.
This class is tough with other things going on - do not take if your schedule is full or you have internship, etc. He's a great professor but there is a lot of reading and class discussion. You get to miss 2 classes but after that he drops your grade down
Class is always lectures and he assigns some readings but it's not bad. He gave us discussion posts due on Sundays and if you did them he'd be more accepting to bump up your grade. Overall there was 4 test 40 questions each that made up your whole grade. I didn't study a whole lot and generally got 80 on them. Just don't bomb a test and you're fine
4 tests based mostly on powerpoints. However, You can read the textbook to help you gain more insight on the terms he discusses in the lectures. He wants you to succeed so try to go to his office hours because he really wants the best our of his students. Pretty long lectures with discussion questions, if you miss 2 discussions your good.
I hate this man personally. He never really taught my class and would only talk about himself and his life. When we would do bad on our exams he would just tell us all to get a tutor instead of communicating with us what the problem was. I had to get a tutor and she was able to teach me the class better than him. Plan to get one if you take him
You do have to read the textbook to understand the material more because he goes over the terms in a more broader way. I did enjoy this class, he always gives out discussions that can help the grade. I also like how he does review before each exam which helps a lot!!! He is also very helpful after class during office hours.
he is all over the place and talks so fast sometimes its hard to keep up! I would avoid this class when you have so much other things going on in other classes because the content is a bit much to keep up with.
It was so hard to learn anything in this class. Half the time he talked about himself which only sometimes pertained to the lecture, and the other half was complaining that we were doing bad on our exams and doing nothing to help. His powerpoint lectures were set up so that the content was extremely vague so it was hard to study outside of class.
He doesnt do a lot of teaching, most of the learning will be on your own.
Donner isn't terrible, but he's far from great. Several writings make up your grades within the class; final paper is worth 30% of your grade. Attendance is not mandatory; it doesn't count towards your grade, but don't expect sympathy from him if you miss class, then ask for help on assignments. He's very blunt and his lectures are pretty boring.
If you don't go to class you probably won't pass. He's a prof that knows what he's talking about, but he is also very strict and you will be called out for going to the bathroom during class. DO THE READING because he'll find out if you don't and he'll give a pop quiz. Overall he's a very informative teacher, but not the best person.
I do not like him at all. He only does tests, and does not help us boost our grades at all.
Donner was easily my least favorite professor this semester. He spent so much time talking about the island Sikiania and his girlfriend, when he wasn't calling out things for being "BS". Would talk about his "body" and how all the sikiana women wanted him, doesn't care if he's offensive and will make that very clear. No filter, and does not care.
Dr. Donner is very knowledgeable about his field, however he doesn't do a lot of teaching. His lectures are extremely bare-bones with very little information actually being taught. This doesn't stop him from making this non-existent information essential for passing his classes which is quite irritating.
This class isn't worth taking unless it's for your major!! Way too much work for a gen ed course and don't even get me started on the midterm. There are NO extra credit opportunities so one bad grade and it's incredibly hard to get it up. He's a nice guy, but that doesn't make up for how difficult his class is.
The class is very easy but the professor is gonna get in trouble for the things he says one day. Do not buy the book. You can get it online or even get by by not reading it at all
STAY AWAY FROM THIS CLASS!! He gives many pop quizzes and expects you to read 2 full books in 3 weeks. He gave us multiple essays and not enough time to do them. Lectures also do not make sense at all. If you do find yourself taking this class do not buy the books you do not need them. Good luck on tests! Easily the worst professor I've ever had.
horrible man
Avoid this class if possible. The workload is heavy, with pop quizzes, essays, and mandatory attendance. The lectures are unclear, and the textbook is not essential. However, tools like Unstuckstudy can help with study prep.
I personally got along with Dr. Donner, but he is a bit strange. He's not afraid to say things that most people fear getting fired for. Don't let him know you're from Lancaster. Read the books, go to class, and do your essays on time and you'll do great in his class! Just try not to get offended lol.
Donner is an excellent professor for students who actually put the work in to pass the class. Don't come in with the expectation that you can do nothing and get by, and you will get a good grade. Passionate, intelligent guy. Certainly has his quirks, but is overall an excellent guy and teacher.
He is such a difficult grader for a Gen Ed. course. He once lectured our class because he felt disrespected I used the restroom on "his time" during another lecture where he distracted himself for an hour straight. Taking his class made me want to transfer schools.
