Very tough class, but the kind in which you learn A LOT if you do what is asked of you. Very nice guy despite his teaching reputation. Great for bio majors, not suggested for others.
he's toooo hard
hes sooooo hard.....i suggest no one ever take him...its even hard asking questions bc your never on the level hes in for asking a q so youll make a food out of yourself....TOO HARD and hes mean as hell
He is sexy!!
This man is straight from hell....he is such a dick and I dont know how he became the head of the department...DO NOTTTTT take his class...if for some reason u register and get stuck with him....RUN as fast as you can to the counselors office and withdraw
this professor is straight out of hell to make our lives miserable and to not let us pass so we can take the class over and waste more money in the school. taking his class is just like taking an F. he's an **** who makes you feel like your stupid!
not helpful, very strict and mean. makes the course seem easy by letting you bring your notes (summaries) but how is it that people still fail all of his tests??? terrible prof.
very effective teacher.
he is a very mean man and when you want to complain about him to someone...you cant! he is the HEAD of THE DEPT!!!
He's very knowledgeable about his subject matter. He's very articulate. It's the course that is fast-paced.
If you like to bust your butt still fail and have to take the class over than this class is for you. Don't attempt to ask a question because he will make you feel really stupid. He gives notes in lightning speed so be prepared. Avoid if possible
this guy makes learning impossible... i hate him, i hate him, i hate him, i hate him.
Prof. Dunscombe is very challenging - he works at a fast pace and can sometimes make the student feel dumb. He is strict to a fault.
this man is not the easiest person to understand. He is very tough but I do have to say if you go to see him he will talk to you and try to help. Even though I failed his class I do think he knows his stuff. If you take his class DO NOT TAKE OTHER CLASSES!! He is not that bad of a man.
he is hard but if you want to do well in your future nursing classes or any other bio class he is the one to take. He prepares you for the future. He does care about his students and just want all to do well. HE IS THE BEST!
Although he is not the nicest person, and not the easiest, if you do his work you will pass, I did pass with a C+, but you will WORK!!!!
Yes it is true, professor from hell, but he does explain the material thoroughly. Terminology is the key. His exams are on a med school level and be happy to get out of there with a C. Memorize those handouts, and yes it's not a good idea to take this with other courses if possible.DO WELL IN LAB!
This is man is a nazi.
worst teacher that i've come across so far. He likes to hear himself talk does not encourage or want the class to participate at all. bad teaching style, dont recomend taking the class with dunscombe
Yes he is tough but he is a great teacher. If you really like to work hard and really want to do well in future Nursing Classes he is the one to take. He really isnt that bad. I passed with a C and let me tell you I totally understand the information because of his tough teaching. He is the best! I am doing great in Nursing Classes because of him!!
i Love this guy. He's the ultimate anatomy prof. He really knows his stuff from the inside out. He's a fantastic lecturer, but the exams that he gives is no joke.Memorizing all his handouts won't make you pass his exams...u've got 2 really understand it.I got an 86 final grade on this guy, but i worked hard for it.He's a toughy, but he's good.
he is the best~ Tought but cares. With him you wont go wrong!
Really tough class but he's a great lecturer. Study, study study and pay attention!! I passed with a B+. Don't believe the stories that no one passes his class. Keep that lab grade up!!
very boring

This professor will make you work and his exams are based on understanding the material not memorizing.....If you understand the material you will pass....Go to the tutors and you can go to him for help...I did and I passed his tests, when I took him last semester....He has prepared me for nursing classes which I am passing thanks to him
Actually a decent teacher, somewhat interesting lecturer. Very strict and very hard tests though
The meanest person ever. He yells at everyone all the time
He's the meanest teacher I ever met!!! He doesn't help any of the students with the questions or the material. He yells at everyone, I don't recommend him to anyone!!
if you want to fail take his courses. If you want to pass register in another school.
He is tough and strict, but he knows his stuff! Attend class, don't be late, and do what's expected, and you will not have any problems. He really cares but does not have tolerance for slackers.
he is very hard to understand and also would like u to use his own refrences he gives to for his Quizzes.
Yes he is hard but he wants you to learn..If you want to be challenged and feel like you are in a real college class then take him...He is the best and will prepare you for nursing classes or for a 4 year college..

Dunscombe doesn't deserve his bad rep. Interesting class and tests are easy if you make good chapter summaries (you can use them on the tests!). I loved his class! Would recommend him warmly. Just make sure you're on time and respectful and you'll be glad you took him. He can seem grumpy, but that's just because some students are such slackers.
No,he does't deserve a bad rap he deserves worse. Read the comments about his class, do you think they are all from angry students? Take his class you will see for your self as almost all the students you will talk to have found out. Ask around and judge for yourself. He was also very negative with us in class.
I reccomend sticking to his notes, nothing else, record lectures.. attend all classes... and study everyday!! He is not the monstor everyone paints him to be. If you really want to know anatomy, take him. He is extremely knowlegdeble. However, if you think you can't handle a hard professor then don't take him! Grumpy in class, but a nice, one -one.
He is the best. He is a professor that teaches his class like a true college professor. If you want to learn take him......he is amazing!!!!!!!!!!
very hard teachers.. he goes into details to much..He is very strict, and his tests are really chalenging
He counts 50%midterm+50%final=your grade. The highest you can get on a test is 90. If you do the chapter summaries; 3 pages per chapter; for 10 chapters you get 1 point for each chapter. Not very fun. The class should b easier but his attitude and the way he questions on the tests make it very stressful & not fun..he has an unpleasant personality.
Almost impossible to do good in this class. He sounds like hes had the lecture memorized for 20 years so he talks so fast that you can't understand anything. Tests were incredibly detailed, and many of those details were not in his notes, lecture, or the book. Notes he gave out were from a different book that used different terms.
very hard class but if you are nursing major you really need to know basics so if you do good in his class you know you will be able to do anything ;) Overall he talks way to fast and seems like he is having fun making the course so difficult. Also he is a control FREAK! everything must be done by his rules which he has about 20!
He does have a very intimidating persona which will keep students from asking questions or coming to his office hrs,but if you do he is very polite and pleased to help you.EVERYTHING IN HIS PACKET IS ON THE TEST,despite what others say.He is hard because he is so specific, and speaks in difficult terms...if your english isnt great dont take him
If you want to learn something, take his class. If you are a slacker, reconsider your career path. He has reasonable rules and fair tests. Prepare questions for the beginning of each class. Stick to his notes and LEARN the material. You can't miss class and blow off studying and expect to pass. Don't be afraid, just be a STUDENT.
Worst prof I ever had.Treats people poorly, not allowed to ask ques during class.Told us if we had a problem not to bother complaining, he is the dept head. Wouldnt take my paper 40 mind late due to car accident. Total jerk, wouldnt let me transfer. Waste of money and have to take it again.
good teacher, wants everyone to do well, but wants everyone to be indepedent. he's not a babysitter. he presents the info clearly, gives out handouts, and allows you to use notes for the tests. he's a really nice man as long as you do what is expected of you
he is the best...I took him and I passed his class but you have to work hard. I have news for all of you if you are takung nursing he is going to seem easy when you start to take nursing classes..He prepared me and I graduated and am a RN thanks to him. Stop whining and be prepared to work....
do not take him unless your willing to dedicate all your time. good teacher but very hard. a lot of learning on your own.
Great teacher.. Before i came into the class, I got a lot of bad feedback from his previous students. In my time in this class so far, I have not one complaint yet. He's actually quite funny.
Has high opinion of himself. Predicts that at least half the class will fail. Many students withdraw/fail. Talks constantly, attendance is required, don't come late/he will tell you to leave...if you refuse to leave he will have you escorted from the class by campus security. Read taxtbook, take notes, don't fall asleep, don't expect any mercy.
very strict prof.don't make him mad.do all of the work and be on time. don't call him prof., call him Dr. Dunscombe.he is the department head.no other prof.teaches this course.chapter summaries should be 3pages and are worth 1point each(if done right).tests are hard even with notes.don't just use definitions.study.exames are worth most of ur grade.
Most of the students in this class want to be nurses, but they whine that he is too hard. You want a 60k job? WORK FOR IT! If not, I don't want to be at your hospital. Prof. D. is a very nice man, very knowledgeable. Work hard, your future career depends on it.
He is an excellent professor who knows how to present material in a clear, concise manner, and he provides helpful handouts. The problem? His tests are EXTREMELY difficult, and you have to STUDY HIS HANDOUTS TO AN ABSOLUTE 'T,' because he often changes one tiny word to confuse you. If you study your butt off, you'll be okay, and you will learn tons
100% committed to students success; one of the best instructors to learn from. follow all his instructions completely and literally for a great learning experience. You will be inspired to learn and proud of whatever grade you might earn.
I swear he must have wrote the last 3 comments below HIMSELF....NOT ONE STUDENT in ucc says hes good BEWARE HES VERY DIFFICULT!
Run away.
After reading other ratings, and working with other students, I find it is the POOR students who criticize this professor because they aren't capable of doing what's necessary to pass. If you're a dedicated student, you'll do well & appreciate this professor. If you want an easy "A," get out of the biology and healthcare majors - it gets WORSE!
he is amazing. If you do not like him it is because you are not willing to work. He expects excellence and teaches like his students have a brain. He doesnt baby us or look down at us for being in a county school. And you can call him Professor. He is amazing!!! Just do the work....It is not an easy subject. He is doing his job well....
He is a difficult teacher. Never lets anyone in after being 10 min late. His tests are soooo difficult. Its his way or no way rules. He has a rule for everything.Since this is a difficult course to begin he makes matters worse.
i dont see what everyones problem is. he doesnt take attendance, gives open book tests, gives you printed notes so you dont have to take any, and seems like a pretty normal guy. even posts highlighted index's from the book so you know which sections to study. his tests are easy, but you can use your book or make chapter summaries. he is not bad
he has no mercy! 6 students passed his second test out of 58
Dunscombe is hard, so if you take his class be prepared, but I really enjoyed his class-yes it's true that he fails about 90% of the class, but if you study the material and do well in you're lab, you can survive. His lectures are very engaging and you can tell that he has a passion for the material but no patience for people who are not interested
It is very hard for me to keep this post clean, butI will. This man does should NOT be teaching. I do not even think hes human, ice is running through his vains. If you have a good GPA, it will be destroyed by this person. It's a shame, many students have taken him 2X's and can't go on because of him. Needs a personality transplant!!
This guy has got to go!! He has ice running through his vains, mad at the world! It is a shame that this institution lets him teach and hes the head of the department. He is unresponsive, dirt has a better personality. Get rid of this man! He fails students because hes misery!. I know the material but the tests are so hard. RUN FOR LIFE!!!
this was the worst class i've taken and the lowest grade i've ever received he doesnt tell you whats on the test actually he doesnt tell you anything in his telecourse class & i've had other online classes i met him once the next time i saw him was for a midterm and final that was it if you want to learn dont take him for ped 107
He is a hard teacher but he knows his stuff. When he teaches, you can see that he is passionate with what he is doing. His tests come from his handouts so study them, but they're really hard. You really have to understand the material cause even though the tests come from his handouts, it doesn't mean that they are word for word from there. You
I don't know why the Dean has this professor still teaching, just beacuse he is the head of this dept.Parents, students complain all the time.If 40 students out of 50 fail the exams and course over & over than ask yourself, "Is it the students?" These are students with 3.5-3.9 GPA's failing this course. Take this professor at your own risk.
Hard? Yes Helpful? Yes....you will thank him at the end
OMG!!!!! runn for cover it is impossible to get a good grade, he like wants to trick you!!!! i couldn't even earn a C! N I'm a good student never take this guy ever he wants you to fail!!!
Prof Dunscome is the ABSOLUTE WORST!!! Please DO NOT ever take any of his classes. He has a very nasty attitude and could care less about you as student! AVOID AT ALL COST!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am so confused with the biological factors/ concepts he wants with the summaries?!?! HELPPP! his class is extremely stressful & it has not even been a week :( lots of reading/ typing!
Oh man this class kicked my butt. He grades soley on 4 tests and the final. They're hard. Do not underestimate it for a second. But he was a good lecturer. He gave you the notes and explained it all in class. however use the book or SI if you dont understand something. I got a B
okay okay , this teacher was hard but he teaches qood. he teaches the materials so that you can learn from him. its just his test the are tricky !!!
This class was not impossible by a long shot. All those people down there complaining that they're good students but couldn't pass are either lying, or extremely mistaken about their capabilities. You do not have to be a rocket scientist to take a 35 question test, in which you get to use the book. haha, just read the chapters, and now your ish.
If you are interested in comprehension vs. short term retention,Professor Dunscombe's class is the place to be.His lectures were interesting and sprinked with analogies and humor. He provided us with typed handouts for each module, and drew detailed diagrams. He is intolerant of lateness and rudeness, but approachable if you have questions.
Professor Dunscombe isn't a bad teacher. Even though us students are bombarded with amounts of material, we MUST know it to be successful in our choice of career. Many may hate him, but he teaches us in a way that we'll never forget.
He starts off the semester saying he doesn't care if you don't come to class, don't believe him!! He admits that it is impossible to learn all the material, thats why he gives open book test. I didn't learn anything from him. He has got to be the worst professor I have ever had and I did very well in his class. In one word Horrible!!
I received a B in this class and unless it is required for your major, I wouldn't recommend it to my enemies. Good Luck, You're going to need it. He is rude and tends to treat the students as though they are 12. Test are multiple choice, but they can be tricky.
I have never complained about any professor in my life until i took bio 105 with Dunscombe. OMG. He is so mean, angry, and obnoxious; it feels like he enjoys to give a hard times to his students. It was a nightmare for me and i just so happy i got C+ , and now i can just forget aout this "monster". Take his class if you want to fail it.
Run away!! I see some people write that he is hard but good teacher - Absolute false! He does not know how to explain the material, i always had to go to tutors so i can inderstand his lecture. Nobody could get 100% in his class, people have studyed days and nights...75% of my class have failed it.
honestly i dont see how anyone could ever give this man a decent score. out of 80 people in my class, 13 got a C+ or better its insane that he is even still allowed to teach. he abuses his power and its just down right insane. he ridicules people be-littles them and is completely miserable take anyone in the world except this man. NO LIE.
Terrible "professor", be ready to 200 questions on final, minus 10 pt for anything he doesn't like-if you forget to put ur test # or name, if you give ur test to him 1 second later then everybody alse, but the main part - he does not know how to teach and explain, makes tastes that make sence just for him, you can know the material but you have no c
R U N .. A W A Y !!! HE IS TERRIBLE !!! NO ONE IN MY CLASS PASSED..HE DOESNT EXPLAIN ANYTHING AND HAS A VERY BAD ATTITUDE ! ...ALSO HIS TEST ARE IMMPOSSIBLE TO PASS ... TAKE ANYONE ELSE BUT HIM
Waste of my hard earned money, this man is taking his personal life out on all the students. I WANT A REFUND!!!!!
Awesome teacher. Zero tolerance for rudeness, lateness, or excuses.Very detailed explanations and diagrams, typed notes for each module.Focus is on comprehension and critical thinking, not short-term retention.Wish the rest of my professors were as strict regarding cell phones and chit-chat in class. No distractions in Dr. Dunscombes class!
I gladly passed his class with a C, that's all i needed LOL. But he is very strict about everything. Don't take his class if your just gonna play around. When you go to his office and ask about your test, he makes you feel dumb. avoid as much as possible
he is a great professor even though most people don't think so. the class is extremely hard, but he is very willing to help all of his students. he has a lot of experience in the field. if you are really interested in anatomy and physiology, he is the best professor to take.
Bill Dunscombe is the best thing that will ever happen to you -- if YOU allow it! Stop complaining and get to work. Laura B.
It is unfair because we never used our prescribed textbook, which is supposed to be the source of learning. He never goes over a lesson that we can't understand. Worst teacher ever. He talks so fast that we can't even comprehend what hes saying. Majority of his students failed in his class.
He is a strict teacher but a good one. The main reason people complain about Professor Dunscombe is because there lazy and don't do there part as students, many people fail his class for that reason. He explains things clearly and in a way you can understand it. He also gives you opportunities to earn extra credit which not many professors do.
He has no field experience. He's an entomologist. He makes things very complicated on his tests. The goal of a professor is to make things easy to understand not overly complicate them. You can pass his class, you can even get a good grade, it isn't impossible. But if you don't have 25-30 hours a week to study don't bother.
I never had recieved anything lower than a B in any anatomy, biology or physiology class in my 13 years of school until professor Dunscombe's class. He is a good teacher, but very difficult. Sometimes I feel like he moves way to fast to even comprehend, but if you attend SI, the material is easy and read the book!!!! other than that good luck!
Yes he's strict and intimidating, but he's a very good professor. He teaches the material clearly and gives examples that'll help you understand the topic better. If you're looking for an easy A, he is not the prof. for you cause you'd most likely fail. Many fail his class cause they don't study hard enough. Overall, I recommend him as a professor.
This professor is harsh. I came in ready and willing to learn, I am a B average student who was looking for a challenge. Unfortunately I risked it, took this guy. "F" Im glad I managed to leave his class alive. For the sake of your mental health and personal obligations, do not take him.
Is anti-health and anti-student this class needs to be taught by another teacher
He wants you to fail... I don't mind his test to be difficult, BUT, WHY HE MAKES QUESTIONS SO TRICKY, YOU KNOW THE THEORY,BUT DON'T KNOW HOW TO ANSWER HIS QUESTION, YOU COULD KNOW HIS LETCTURES IN AND OUT BUT YOU GET TRICKED BY HIS DOUBLE sensed questions!!He talks soo fast, you need a electro robot to write for you! Very angry and rude.
Stop complaining on here, just write a written letter to V P Dr. Wallace Smith. If there are enough complaints they will start paying attention. So many complaints, just put it in writing and hand it in. Do something about it. it will help get another prof. to teach the class. He is a terrible prof, is very disrespectful, talks down to people,
Terrible "professor". My grades are all A, this is the only C+, he'll take 10 points out if you forget to put ur test number.. .he thinks he teaches sergions with ability of magical predictions, because his questuions make sense just to him,and u need to apply ur magic abilities to answer them sometimes. He needs to learn basic communication skillsto
Hes really not that bad. Yes hes strict but its not for anything thats unreasonable, its college. He gives u notes for all chapters typed. Attend class, Pay attention and he offers surprise xtra credit points towards tests. Open book tests, just highlight from notes or u can do chap summary. Challenging yes but Ive had worse.
Prof. Dunscombe is not anti health or anti student. He wants you to understand and be able to apply your knowledge not just be able to know facts without any application. He is a very good professor and offers extra credit via SI. His tests are very difficult and you will have to study 25+ hours a week to get a B or higher. Good Luck
People who are planning on taking only this class and have no work or other classes will be fine. He's very rude and what does it tell you that only four people passed the class? Seriously DO NOT take him. Unless u have 24/7 for this class and you're ok with a C with a lot of effort
Every time I go to a hospital in Union County, I pray that the nurse taking care of me went through Dunscombe's class. If you can't pass his class, don't go into the healthcare profession. The world will appreciate it.
Honest answer... DO NOT TAKE! Unless you want to hate yourself for an entire semester or lifetime for making the dumbest decision you've ever made, do not take. People will post up confusing info about this guy. Truth is every class begins with 75 ppl after 1st test there's only 25. Take any other teacher and save yourself some headache TRUST ME!
Trying to understand how this guy is still teaching. I've had many classes, different professors. Some of my past profs were tough but this guy's teaching style makes no sense. I think UCC has him there just to fail students, make them retake the class and get more money. 4-5 chapters of BIO on 1 test is stupid. Will contact dean!
Know this: the people who make this statements about how great this guy is, either didn't take the class and know him personally so they're writing this stuff or slept with him. Either way, don't take this guy. You'll thank everyone else that warned you later. Unless you have a love for failing or getting a low grade stay away!
Most of the time people take easy teachers but learn nothing. I decided to take a stricter teacher only to find that in his class it's actually the same. This class is about memorization, not learning. Miss a class when he gives a hand out and you won't receive 1 even though he has copies galore. Don't waste your money or time on this 1 here!
The worst teacher i have ever had i dont know why he's still teaching.
Dunscombe is the worst teacher i have ever taken in my life. He is not clear when teaching the material and he talks so fast he can barley keep up with himself. He does not care about the students. When seeing the test results for the class i was shocked, a class with over 50 studets only 3 passed. He does not curve on his test. If you want to pass
The worst teacher i have ever had in my life. half of the class fail the first test and by the end only 5 students pass the class. do your self a favor dont take this teacher and spend all your money for no reason.
Although I received an A from this class (oh no that is impossible!), I don't recommend this professor to anyone. This guy lectures so fast to the point of fooling yourself that he is actually speaking Mandarin instead of English. Trust me, there are better instructors in this college for A&P who are more helpful and knowledgeable than this one.
Dunscombe is one of the worst Techers i've ever had.. His lectures are too fast, anything he talks about are not in his tests. If someone tells him they dont understand, he'll look at them like they're idiots. He took away 10 points from my test because I handed it to him "late", He's not at all helpful nor does he care. Dont take him.. Ever
The worse experience ever!! He's a good lecturer, could be better if only what he preached was on his test. His class requires 100% of your time if you want to pass. He's very strict, cold and not at all approachable. Wished I knew about him prior to signing up. Take him at your own risk!
Ok I did pass his class on the first try but it was very difficult he requires a lot of study time and he is kind of a jerk Im a good student and i want to learn and so i would think it would be easy to teach me but he is so busy trying to be a tough guy that even though i Passed his class i still feel lost in bio 106 i would not recommend him
He is rediculous. He calls students stupid that ask him to repeat. He talks fast and is not thorough.
I studied so hard for this class day and night,NO EXAGGERATION i had no social life and even quit my job. i took this class with five other classes and thought i could do it & with the amount of studying i put into this class i should have gotten an A but no. However i do have advice for anyone who takes this class-attend SI!!!!!! It REALLY helps.
Expectations are clear. Chapter notes are provided. Thorough studying a must. Grades based on 4 test only. Teacher overall, although knowledgeable, is very arrogant, intimidating and unapproachable. After EVERY testing, I went home stressed with migraines. The college should definitely reconsider another teacher for this position.
The worst prof at UCC. I needed one more class to graduate with honors and dropped his class so I went to Kean to take it and have it transferred. I have never had a teacher that was so intimidating and arrogant. My major was education too! And I would never want to become a teacher like him! UCC should let him go. He is impossible. GOOD LUCK :/
wouldn't recommend this professor, he is unapproachable and doesn't seem to care about students learning the material
AMAZING professor. People talk bad things about him because they care more about easy A than really learning the material. You will have to study A LOT for his class. He knows his subject and is incredibly smart. He makes you understand everything pretty easy with his examples! I wish he taught BIO 106. GREAT professor for who want to really learn
He is not a bad professor AT ALL. He comes off as cold, but he can be funny at times. You MUST STUDY ON YOUR OWN! Don't expect to get an easy A. If you're a hard working student I recommend him, but if you're looking for an easy A - DON'T BOTHER.
Take this class if you wan't to lower your GPA ;)
If you know you don't study or like to work hard, DON'T take this professor. Textbook and attendance not mandatory. Hands out packets. Questions come from the packet, memorize it! Open to questions before and after class. Just going to class won't help, you really have to know those packets inside and out. Failed from not studying, like at all lol.
Great professor!! Hard, but very clear with explaining and his handout. Makes class interesting, and his tests are on his handouts.
Prof. is knowledgeable on the material & clearly explains his expectations. Show up, pay attention, study & you will do just fine. You're allowed to use his notes during open book test so as long as you do not fool around you will pass. If you cannot deal with his personality than drop the class, he does not tolerate nonsense. I enjoyed PED!
Prof.Dunscombe is absolutely amazing. His tests do come from his packets, they are all difficult and tricky. BUT if you listen to his lectures, study and love what your learning, you will pass. He is very approachable, respectful, fair and most of all, a professor with great knowledge about this course. Don't believe all the bad comments on here
The best professor I have ever had. I absolutely loved his class because I learned so much. His lectures are great, he gives great examples, the packet of notes he gives you for each test are so helpful. Everything on the exams are from the packets. Bio105 is not an easy course with any professor, you really have to put effort in if you want an A.
I'm currently taking this class now. His attendance and punctuality is mandatory, you don't need the book because he goes off his packets. He is the worst professor a student can take. The class is about 12 students and only 2 are passing his test. He gets a kick off intimidating the students, he gets irritated if you ask questions while teaching.
DONT TAKE THIS HIM IF YOURE TAKING MORE THAN 2 CLASSES! you definitely have to put all of your time and effort into this class! STUDY STUDY STUDY STUDY! He's very confusing and just lectures too fast. His analogies are AMAZING probably the only thing that MIGHT make me through this course. GOODLUCK if you've registered for his class... seriously...
He is the toughest and rudest professor at UCC and the chairman of the biology dept, so if you really don't have anyone to speak to about how unethical he is. He yells at students, made a girl cry in my class. He tries to intimidate his class and it works. HE ALSO GIVES A FINAL 2X THE LENGTH OF ANY OTHER PROFS IN A&P. try to take atsma, hes helpful
DONT DO IT PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF.... CHANGE PROFESSOR ASAP
take dunscombe for your own rise because it will fail you anyway he makes me retake bio 105 for half a point.
The worst experience ever! His tests were hard! You can try studying early but unless you know every single detail in his packet you will not pass. You can try to use the book but it will not help! TAKE ANOTHER PROFESSOR!
Professor Dunscombe gives his students everything they are going to be tested on in his packets and breaks it down beautifully during his lecture. The subject itself is difficult though, so you will need to study to do well in his class. He is very helpful and happy to answer questions during office hours.
This professor is a tough cookie. Tests are really hard but now he lets you use a 1 page cheat sheet for every test and final. He knows his stuff really well and he expects you to study everyday to pass his course. Out of 35 students, 5 will pass. You dont need a textbook, he uses packets.
Good luck with this professor :), he makes you want to quit school!
Drop out while you have the chance; take a different professor!!!!! You won't be able to learn anything in Dunscombe's class. He lectures too fast & only 2-3 people will pass his tests. Run while you can!!!!! RUN!!!!!!!
People need to remember a&p is a hard subject to begin with. Toughest grader, but explanations are VERY clear, you MUST pay attention and TAKE NOTES. He doesn't take questions in lectures (unless he asks) but he is super nice in his office. He is a hard ass in class but the COMPLETE opposite in his office. PAY ATTENTION AND STUDY OR YOU WILL FAIL
I can not understand why this Professor gets such a bad rep. He is an awesome professor! There is no b.s in his class, his lectures are to the point and gives great analogies. This man knows his stuff! Like any science course, you need to put in the time and effort to earn a good grade. His test are not that bad, you'll pass as long as you STUDY!
Prof. Dunscombe is a really thorough teacher. If you come to every single class (on time!), take notes, pay attention, be respectful, and ask for help/clarification when you need it, you'll do fine.
I attended every class read the book and studied hard but it was not enough, he gives a number for every test and you check your grade based on the number not your name had me believe I had a certain grade until it was too late to withdraw and couldn't double check to make sure he had graded the correct test, this was done to several other students
Disregard the negative commentary on this professor. IF you are willing to put time into learning the material and attend his lectures (crucial) you will learn an abundance of material and do perfectly fine. This course was not intended to be "easy". Being said, his lectures are very thorough, which is absolutely critical in a class of such.
For this professor you get out what you put in! If you don't attend classes, take notes, and ask for help when you need it, how do you expect to pass? This is college people not high school, so there is effort needed on your part. If you're a serious student you will pass.
HAHA. Okay. I respect him, he is very smart and IS willing to help, but you have to be very specific what you need help on. It's kinda like he expects you to know everything he knows in a lifetime, in one semester. Not to mention, his tests feel like the SAT's. If it wasn't for the lab, I wouldn't have passed.
Worse Professor Ever and Very Rude. Started the class with 25 students it ended with 11 and only 2 people passed. Don't take him unless you want to fail!
I enjoyed Prof. Dunscombe's class. His lectures are detailed & he types up lecture notes for you to print out. He gives open note tests & allows you to record his lectures. Attendance is mandatory!! He is strict, but I have learned so much from him. Only 5 questions for on his online assignments. Quite honestly, I would take him again!
I am currently taking his class, 80% are failing. He is extremely rude, impatient, sarcastic. He does not come up for air when he lectures, there's no time for class participation he takes up the entire lecture. If 80% of class is failing there is a serious problem. He needs to take accountability for this. Wake up UCC there is a major issue here..
Anatomy & Physiology is not an easy subject, but this professor makes it even harder. He teaches as if his students were first-year medical students. His lectures are too fast, overloaded, and he leaves no time for discussion. He's disrespectful, rude, and most of the time he seemed quite annoyed. Only 2 people in my class passed. Avoid, Avoid!!
Anatomy & Physiology is not for the faint-hearted. Neither is the medical field. Dunscombe prepares you for reality. Patients are going to be rude, disrespectful, sarcastic but you must learn to look past that in order to get the message and get the job done. Visit his office hours, he is so much more helpful and nicer! Cares about students.
Do yourself a favor don't take his class, you won't pass it be matter how hard you try, and his not helpful he makes it impossible to pass his class, Run Forest, Run!!!
This professor is definitely difficult and VERY strict. memorization is key! His tests for the Fall2016 semester were opennotes but i think hes getting rid of that so If you can change then do it but just because u have him doesnt mean your doomed to fail. He only allows 1 retake and gives you a outline of topics focused on the most for each test
Disrespectful, doesn't encourage questions, no discussions, not helpful if you are struggling, reads straight from his notes, if you are not an auditory learner don't take this class. Monotone & talks too fast. The notes are taken from the right from the book, book is pointless, get ready to make youtube your best friend.
very disrespectful
hardest professor ever, I didn't pass. very thorough and his test are designed for you not to pass no matter how hard you study, class started with 23 and ended with 11 only 2 ppl passed. he is rude, strict and gets annoyed when you ask questions. avoid if you can. oh don't be late to his class. you will catch the raft
Teach yourself before you take the class. Study the book from front to back and know it like it's the back of your hand. It's the only way to pass this class. He shouldn't be a teacher. He is only there to read the information to you off his notes. Nothing else! I think UCC is aware of this issue and don't mind since pass or fail they get a check.
Absolutely loved taking his class, he basically gives you his notes all you have to do is listen and write the extra little details. Everyone who complains about him being a bad professor just wants to be given a passing grade without putting in the effort. Anatomy isn't meant to be an easy. A.
I took Bio105 and now I am currently taking Bio106 with dunscombe. You HAVE to study and pay attention in his class. He gives you all the notes you need for the exams. If you are not willing to put effort don't Bother taking him. He wants to make sure you know the materials which is how it should be. Not pass the course without knowing material.
He provides everything you need. But be ready to memorize a lot. It's all about doing the 'grunt work'. He provides notes for the class, expects you to just watch and listen to his 'show', using smart analogies to help you understand. The best lecturer I ever had. I passed by taking his notes everywhere, and reading them over and over constantly.
I just took him for Bio 105 and i dropped it. He's very rude, and arrogant. Too bad i didn't ready the review before i took him this semester and lost my time and money in this class. Half of the class dropped already at least 10 did. He teaches his notes, and he will let you use them for the exam( but it won't matter, trust me !) RUNNNNN from him
HE THE WORST
The hardest professor I have ever had. He knows his stuff but he speaks really quick and his tests are meant to confuse you. Definitely read ahead and do the homework. Don't miss a class because its like missing a weeks worth of material. Very hard to get a good grade on his exams. Just prepare a lot.
Anatomy and Physiology is hard so take an easy professor. Studying everyday and going to two tutors have not helped me. It upsets me to know how hard I study and still fail. He is nice but very hard. You think you know it all until the test comes and you have no clue what the answers are. I've changed my study habits for every test and still fail.
I wanted to like Dunscombe b/c he's nice out of class but I can't help but be disappointed. As a straight A student, I expected to do a lot better than I ultimately did. He is difficult for no reason. He makes it extremely hard to pass any exam, I couldn't even get a C! Don't take if you are NOT a science/bio major or have a bio degree, won't pass!!
Great professor. Definitely not an easy A but take him if you want to not only pass your class but be able to remember the information and make use of it beyond school. He's tough, sometimes rude and most times intimidating but overall great teacher. He's very accessible during office hours as well.
I am not going to lie he is a good professor, but when it comes to his tests they are extremely difficult. Whatever he teaches in class doesn't really come out on his tests. He talks really fast during lecture if you're trying to write you have to do it fast. Attendance is mandatory be ready to read.
if you go into exam day blind get ready to flunk STUDY even on the weekends if not you will struggle with him
A no nonsense professor. Tough but extremely fair and worth it. Only goes off of his own notes, textbook needed to reinforce anything not understood. Lectures from first minute to last. In anatomy you have to understand functions of systems more than memorize structures and he teaches this well. If you can maintain a high average skip the final
Very though professor. Talks very fast. I am a straight A student and I struggled A lot with his class. I looked for help with tutors and studied and still had A lot of difficulty with his testing. 90% of my class has to retake this course. Avoid avoid avoid his class if possible.
He is very knowledgeable and lectures the entire class time - speaks fast. Notes pages that he hands out are great. Hard grader and has crazy 'rules' for his tests. Very rude. If we don't get to the information in class it's a 'tough luck' attitude and you're expected to know it... would avoid him at all costs.
Most inconsiderate professor ever. Really knows his stuff so expects his students to know everything just like him. only goes by his notes. if you missed class forget it, you'll email him and asked him what you missed he will respond "went over this in class". tests are open note but questions are hard and cannot find them in notes. Unapproachable!
Tough grader. Avoid at all costs. You can study all you want and the tests are open notes, but you will still do poorly. Acts like the lectures are timed and he has to talk as fast as he possibly can. Get ready to teach yourself everything..
I really wish I can say something nice but Professor Dunscombe is HORRIBLE. By far the worse professor I've had. He's so disrespectful and his notes and lectures have NOTHING to do with exams. He should be fired or something I never seen such a horrible and disrespectful professor ever. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
Please avoid this professor if you have the chance. He is so rude! He gives tests with open notes but test questions have nothing to do with the notes. You can study for weeks and still do bad in his class. The only grades in his class are test grades so if you are not a good test taker, please avoid! Worst professor Ive ever had.
Avoid this professor if you can. I ended up pulling a C . His exams are worded tricky and notes are unnecessarily detailed and specific . He doesn't even recommend using the textbooks be prepared to learn from pages of his own extremely detailed notes. Final exam is cumulative and has 200 questions which was overwhelming. Avoid.
One of the hardest classes I have taken in my life. He is not a bad teacher. All test are open book but it doesn't really matter if you don't study. STUDY STUDY STUDY. I suggest that this class is taken alone, so you are focused on this class and this class alone. You can pass !
He is horrible and super hard.
I took him for Bio105 and I made sure to take him again for Bio106. His explanations are very good, he provides real life examples and diagrams to make learning easier. With a nursing major Bio105 and 106 are some of the subjects you need to really grasp and he makes it easy to understand the concepts. Open book test but studying is a must.
Dear Professor Dunscombe, Thank you for ruining my 4.0 GPA, I passed your class with C after studying all weeks nonstop. Your class made me consider to apply for 4-year colleges where professors aren't as arrogant and unapproachable as YOU alongside with abrasive Dr. Jones the head of the dean. I will recover from my GPA but your rep will not!
Amazing lectures, besides them being long.
Professor Dunscombe is easily the greatest Bio professor I've ever had. Yes, he's a tough grader, and yes, a lot of people here say he's horrible, but they just didn't put in the work required of them. If you want an easy A, take someone else. If you want to actually LEARN the subject and will study a lot at home, TAKE HIM. You won't regret it.
Academically, he's good. Very strict. MUST TAKE NOTES! No exam retakes only IF he feels like it & if yes you MUST follow the request form or he 'll disregard it. Socially, he's horrible. If you're late, he stops lecture & makes a scene in front of the class & won't let you sign the attendance sheet. Other students had the same issue. Good luck guys
By far one of the most intimidating professors I've ever had. His teaching style is not for everyone.
Dr Dunscombe is an amazing professor with amazing lectures. You have to work hard to succeed. He doesnt want you because just memorize or be familiar with his notes, you will fail if you do that. You have to UNDERSTAND the material, and he makes it easy, you just have to study his notes, record his lecture, study consistently and you will be fine.
prof dunscombe is a very nice professor. He is Strict , very intense lecture. He does not tolerate kid crap. take his class because you want to learn something. His tests are a little tricky but study and you will pass his class. he is available after class for questions if needed.
GREAT lecturer. You really have to be prepared to take in every word he says, he's straight to the point and explains things really well! But he does speak pretty fast, so I suggest recording. Take really good notes, too! He's also pretty strict but VERY fair. Really understanding and nice if you follow his rules and directions!
Great instructor and helped me understand the material clearly. I will admit, he is a tough professor and you must devote many days of studying for this class. If you are looking to truly expand your knowledge on A&P and are willing to work extremely hard, I suggest taking Professor Dunscombe.
Terrible professor. He just reads his notes in class and takes a full letter grade off if you don't write the color of your exam in the correct box. Don't take him if you want to pass.
AVOID THIS PROFESSOR! If you are a person that learns better by reading and taking notes (like me) do NOT take him! He reads his own notes very quickly and expects you to write down his exact words and barely EVER wrote anything on the board. He was unreasonable and rude to students. There are other WAY better professors, save yourself the headache
Very knowledgeable and knows his stuff. Gives detailed notes that you can bring into the test; but the tests are still extremely hard and you MUST study those notes. Any question you ask he will go above and beyond to answer. If you slack off or don't show respect in class he will not like you and make that known. Show effort; you will learn a lot.
Prof says attendance isnt mandatory. Those few points for it does boost your grade up by 1 or 2. Rereads notes. Access Code required but barely uses the actual purchased material. This professor is for someone who has had some exposure to bio before taken in a college environment. I wouldn't recommend this professor to someone new in the scene.
I had to change my major because of him. He always complains how most students do bad on the tests but most questions he hasn't gone over or aren't in the study guide. Drop him while you can.
Gives you notes that are about 10-15 pages each on each system. I'm in med school and the notes still help me out. You're tested on said in depth notes, but the tests are open book, so you can bring the notes. You should make a table of contents for notes for tests. He's amazing, but hard. Most amazing lecturer I've ever had and I learned a lot.
Professor Dunscombe is the ONLY professor I have ever learned from. His powerpoint handouts are brief so be sure to take notes and draw diagrams. I wish I could of taken him for Bio106. His tests are heavy and you will definitely need to study. Not an easy A, but he's worth it.
Awful. This professor is a bully. Had to drop the class. Do not take unless you are a Biology Wizard.
He's actually very nice & VERY fair. I chose to do BIO 105 and BIO 106 w/ him because he's a great professor. If you want to learn, go to his lectures & listen attentively. He can speak a bit quick so be prepared. He can throw shade but ONLY if you don't respect his rules. It's true, he's not for everyone. Just be prepared, that's all to it.
Hes not a pleasant person and he knows it and will call you out in class. He talks very fast and give you his own notes , which he just reads from. Dont skip class even though attendance doesnt affect your grade. Half the class dropped him or have to take it again. Dont take him
He lectures really fast, but gives you a copy of his notes to follow. Bottom line: do the work. His tests can be tricky, make sure you do the homework and any extra credit work. If you study until you understand the concepts you are fine. He is very nice and helpful outside of class. He respects students who take class seriously.
Toughest professor I've had. Very strict, if your more than 10 minutes late for class, he will stop lecturing and stare at you. Really knows his stuff, very knowledgeable, but his test are hard. Final exam was 200 questions, very intense. If Bio is a weak subject of yours find a different professor. Many classmates withdrew.
Im glad I passed the class but it was the hardest. Dont take him unless youre part time. His final was 200 questions in 150 minutes30 seconds for each question. We were at a disadvantage against the students who received a final from the department. He is very rude and says things arent mandatory but actually are. Miss a lecture and you fail.
One of the worst professors you can ever have and be referred to. He literally reads his lecture notes to you and then quizzes you on it. Mind you the notes are around 15-30 pages. He is very knowledgeable but be prepared to merely pass the class.
Bio 105 is the first class I took after the ESL program, I found this course very difficult, but I actually learned a lot. His notes are clear but tests and the final exam are difficult. Don't take him if you have another difficult class.
HORRIBLE PROFESSOR I. D.o.n.t recommend anyone taking him! He ignores you whenever you try to ask a question and has a very dirty attitude
WORST PROFESSOR EVER stay away from him... hard Lecture, hard test, hard everything. I deeply regret on taking him. He catches attitude from nothing.
Professor Dunscombe has been teaching A&P for many years and has a great deal of knowledge. Unfortunately, he seems very burnt out like he really doesn't want to be there. His lectures consist of him reading from his notes and occasionally drawing on the board. He has open note tests, but unless you have a strong science background try elsewhere.
Open note tests, MAKE A TABLE OF CONTENTS to navigate them quickly on test day. If you don't put effort in, he won't respect you. If you show up to office hours and ask a lot of questions in class, he outwardly respects you. The best lecturer I've had the pleasure of having in my college career. I only wish I took him for Bio105. BE READY TO STUDY!
For an extra credit essay I received a zero for using notes taken in class to answer the question.
Your grade is completely dependent on tests and the final. He gives hw online, they take hours to do. The hw counts as 10 points for the test, so if you don't do it (or don't do well), you already lose 10 points toward the test. No videos, no powerpoints, he just walks in, sternly yells info for 50 mins, and walks out. Tests are insanely hard.
Here is a quote said by him (that I recorded during lecture) referring to the "one or two" students who planned to have him the following semester (he has now been promoted dean of science and won't teach as of 12/2019) - "...I guess some of those students have sadomasochistic tendencies..." That pretty much sums it up.
He knows his material but doesnt know how to teach. He skips through material and talks fast. There are 4 tests and a final, he gave 2 pop quizzes, mastering a &p and hell only add 10 points to your test if you get a 100 on it. He grades the extra credit assignments tough, and he doesnt count attendance which couldve helped your grade out.
THIS TEACHER IS THE WORST TEACHER EVER HE IS A FAST LECTURER AND WHEN YOU ASK HIM TO REPEAT HIM SELF HE WONT WORST TEACHER EVER
Horrible Professor dont take him. He comes in gets straight to the lecture and talks for the entire class and talks fast. Plus he expects you to understand. If he counted attendance I wouldve passed with a C plus and he had open note tests and everybody in the class still failed.
Hes not a very nice person. Open note tests 90% of the class still fails
