VERY INTERESTING AND CHALLENGING, U WILL NOT FALL ASLEEP IN HIS CLASS
Figures he's in Psych...he's a looney. And by the way . . . I slept through just about every class.
very interesting and intelligent, fair in grading, about the best it gets in psych dept
he's a good teacher! definatly knows what he's talking about, don't fall asleep in his class!
I loved his class, because he managed to get all of the information across while making it interesting. He also yelled random things to wake random people up. ;)

Forces you to do outside work for upper level psych students. Past the fifth row, it's impossible to see the overhead to see what he's talking about; tests are impossible to pass.
dwyer is great! he really makes the class interesting with his personal stories. he can be a hardass sometimes, though. reminds me of george carlin.
told lots of stories not about the subject and really needed to keep his political feelings to himself, you really don't knwo what will be on the tests, but like all in all he was pretty cool
he's very lame. all he does is talk w/e he got on his powerpoint. don't even let us know wat chapter to study for. BORING class! all the lecture and his notes are USELESS! it doesn't help u on the test!
you either love him or hate him, i loved him, he kept class very interesting and the tests were never surprises
As if it's not enough to keep up with this class and all your other classes, you HAVE to be a case study for upper level psych majors.
Awesome teacher. Realates material to real life applications. It's refreshing to have a teacher that isn't a left wing kook. You either love him or hate him.
Very funny teacher. relates material to life. You dont have to come to class much...only of Fridays for quizzes..DO EXTRA CREDIT!!
awsome
he is very boring and rude. to me he is not a good teacher you should re-consider if you get him because 75% of hiss class flunks each semester
Best teacher I ever had
He is rude and arrogant. He claims he can cure anything in 20 min. His tests are pretty straight forward. Reading the book helps. But you have to ask what chapter because he never tells you. His lectures are boring most of the time. His stories get old after a while and his jokes are corny.
the guy sucks
he rocks my face off.
Dwyer is a good teacher. Just study your notes and you'll do fine. All these people that think he sucks are freshman who are not ready for college.
Excellent teacher if you actually want to learn something about Psychology. Whiny freshmen who don't study will NOT do well in this class. Tests are passable, online quizes suck. He goes by the book, so you will need one of thoes. If you apply yourself then you should do fine
I thought this teacher was very interesting and I learned a lot in that class. And just because you're a freshman doesn't mean you'll do bad because I'm a freshman and made an A.
No attendence policy but came to class just to see what he'd do next. Cracked me up with his indecent comments and although his letures seemed long, his stories of his crazy experiences helped me stay awake. DONT FALL ASLEEP and just take notes and you can do fine as long as you come to class.
I really enjoyed this class. He knew exactly what he was talking about. His jokes were really corny but funny. He also has an interesting way of waking up the kids in his class. I reccommend him if you want to have a great time learning psychology.
I'm a Senior and still didn't enjoy this man. His lectures were interesting but god forbid they have anything to do with what he's testing over. He's a pretty rude guy but it's usually funny unless he's demeaning you hah. That moustache has to go.
One of the rudest people I've ever met. He doesn't want to be there and makes that clear. His test questions are over the most minute details of the book, like names of dr's and their experiments. There's a lot of notes, and his lectures are BORING.
Tends to go off topic. Tells the same jokes day after day. Just copy down the slides and bring some other reading material to keep yourself occupied (but dont get caught or you will be made an example of!) The class is not what I was hoping it wold be. He is Rude & Arrogant. Sure, sometimes Funny.
He is very intersting but can go off topic. He is also very funny and has a lot of stories. His tests are not always what he talks about, but they are not impossible.
I enjoyed Dr. Dwyer's class. It was very interesting and if you took notes you were sure to pass the test. He does have a funny way to wake you up which kept the class funny. I enjoyed the class.
He is okay sometimes but then he can do or say things to upset the students.
he's awesome!!
Excellent instructor! He has trained a LOT of Park Rangers!
Dr. Dwyer is very mean at times and is not willing to help you personally he will push you on to his assistant. This class is taken in the Psych auditorium with about 375 people and you are just a number, I have an A average right now and I still feel ill about him. He makes the rudest of comments
he was interesting and you had to study. the class wasn't impossible though...
Have to read book or will not do great on tests. He is very funny and nice if you get the chance to speakw/ him. Very outspoken in views.
Very rude man---he makes totally unnecessary comments to the class. He makes off the wall jokes that are not even related to the subject at hand. DO NOT TAKE HIM because you will be wasting you money. I heard that Dr. Long is a much better professor who actually teaches this class.
Rude, stubborn, conceited, and arrogant. The class is easy if you read the text and take notes, but Dwyer is not a nice person. He's funny at times, but his opinions get in the way of his teaching.
Very rude. Makes unnecessary comments to the class. Most of the comments have to do with sex.
Arrogant and abrasive. Full of sex-related humour and off-color mnemonics. Excellent teacher. Yes, he's an ass, but he's a fair ass--if you do the work and read the reading and show up for class you'll be just fine. Highly recommended.
Dr Dwyer is very set in his ways and opinions, yes, but he does teach the material. As long as you come to class, you will be fine. He also offers extra credit to help improve your grade. Overall, Doc is a very good professor. I would recommend him unless you have a problem with big auditorium classes.
He has a good teaching style

excellent instructor. you will learn ALOT and do well in the class. he keeps the classes attention by making jokes and odd comments. the man is brilliant

dwyer is ****bag, a good teacher but is too assertive with his opinions, which i dont care to hear about. at all

this guy is horrible, hes a right wing preacher who has whole classes that are just about the evils of abortion. luckily its an easy course.
Dwyer is a very capable professor. I took his class my freshman year, (he also taught my father) and I was very intimidated by his speech. I decided to be one of the ones who made it in his class and I feel that because of that choice I gained a lot from w
After reading some of these entries I am disgusted! Dwyer is a Brillant and very capable teacher. The only people I witnessed have issues with him where those who were rude to him, slept in class, or expected hand outs. He covered material clearly and was
he was a good teacher, he has a very dry sense of humor so there were times when he was funny, i liked going to psyc. it was a good class. i would recommend it to anyone
If you are taking this class- drop it and take it from someone else if you want to learn anything but his opinion. I can't believe they pay him to teach nothing. i would have done just as well to stay at home, read the book and teach it to myself.
I loved his class, hes a very good teacher, and i amlooking to take him again.
There are only 3 tests and no final. He likes to tell stories from his past(from when he was a park ranger). He is very opinionated.
I loved this man and his class. If you go, take notes, and pay attention, you will make an A. I did. The tests, are easy, and there are not many quizes or assignments. Really good to take when you have another really hard class
he is such a GREAT teacher. he knows ALOT about psychology. if you go to class & take good notes you will do well on the tests. he loves to step on peoples toes &i love it. if you have a sense of humor. take this class.his stories about his park ranger days are AMAZING.you will have to study to make an A. great class. great teacher. you WILL learn.
He is a good teacher, i wouldn't say great. Yes, i think he does makes a lot of unnecessary comments but that's him. He does throws a few funny jokes in the lecture, every once and awhile. If you want to pass, sit in the front. I fell asleep a many of times, but thank God he didn't wake me up. He gives extra credit.
Tough, but fair. Lectures are informative and tests cover the book and lectures. He will make you earn your grade, but the class is well worth taking. Sit close to the front and pay attention for the best grade.
I think the guy is funny. I'm almost done with undergrad work, and let's face it...for a psyc professor he's pretty normal and has a good sense of humor. Since he doesn't need med's and its an intro course...take him. He is the lesser of many evils in this building! Plus, you can stare at his mustache half of the time.
Like most professors, he has an opinion & an agenda, I don't agree with his. He was clear & possessed credibility power while lecturing, though his lectures were filled with selective anecdotes aimed at prooving the credence of his opinion, while trivializing any opposite view...he could be a great politician. If required, get your "A", & move on.
He teaches exactly what will be on the tests. Study the book and the notes and you will pass with a B. Study and do the extra credit and you will have an A. Assertive but does crack a few jokes. He is helpful too.
He was a good teacher. He made coming to class easy because it was enjoyable. I am not a psy. major but it was gen ed so i had to take it, i passed with a B and I did the extra credit, but not all that i could. I would recommend him.
this guy is very unfair. he gets rid of half of the people in class by the end of the second week. And out of those people he tells us that most of us WILL fail. So I guess he's admitting there that he is such a terrible professor that no one will learn anything from him. He goes off into his stupid little stories. SHUT UP with the fables & TEACH!
he was great!! he was really fair and really interesting.. his pictures on powerpoint were funny and helped you understand the material. if you study , you will pass!!
Dwyer is an awesome but very blunt professor.Suggestions: Pay attention in lectures, GO TO CLASS, sit near the front, follow the rules.Read the flippin' book and study class notes and you're sure to do just fine. He's an excellent professor (even though there are those who don't like him very much). you must *EARN* your grade!
I had this teacher years ago when I was a freshman (I'm a senior now). I assume he hasn't changed much. His lectures are very interesting but he can be quite an arrogant dick. He brags about failing 60 percent of the class and is very conservative and biased. Make sure you study very hard for his tests that often include trick questions.
I took his class 2 semesters ago and he was interesting and funny! I thought at first I was failing his class horribly until I found you double your score. But the most i ever studied was 30 minutes and would make a B and I didnt pay attention in class either. But on his tests there are alot of gimme wuestions. It was super easy!
Dwyer is hilarious. I loved coming to his class! You have to read the text and study, but I made an A fairly easily. I recommend him to anyone taking Gen Psychology!
i don't like it, but you might
Dwyer is a pompous know-it-all and incorporates some rather crude jokes into his lectures. I loved it. But woe to ye who falls asleep or is caught eating or drinking, he will call you out! One time a buddy of mine fell asleep and Dwyer came and sat right next to him, kissed him on the nose and said, "Morning sunshine." HI-larious.
Dr. Dwyer is one of the best in the psyc dept... and he is one of the funniest. I thought this class was fairly easy: 3 tests, study guides, attendence not required... Loved it. Yeah it is true tho don't fall asleep!!
sooo cool! when kids sleep in class, he starts saying sex words to wake everyone up. hes pretty cool!
This class should be no problem..as long as you (try to) attend every lecture and study the book and study guide book before each test. He also gives out extra credit writing assignments, so be sure to go every class period (just in case..you don't want to miss one!). May seem very strict, but really is a good professor. I ended up passing with a C
Extremely funny. Enlightens you. Really teaches you and helps you understand how people do the things they do. Is NOT ****---people who say that are ignorant. Attendance is not required but you he gives random pop papers and each one you miss is minus 10 points off final grade. DON'T SLEEP, NO PHONES, AND STOP THE NOISE!
LOVED HIM!! hes very funny and grabs your attention!! Hes interesting in how he teaches=)
Dwyer was my fave professor! The pop quizes, sex words, crude jokes, attention-grabing slides---all true&amazing. I looked forward to class.Go & u'll get bonus points! He gave out 2 bonus pts every day for 2 wks! & once, we came to class, got 2 bonus pts &were let out.If u went 2 Houston High,he looks&acts like Mr Traverse & acts like Coach Becker
Extremely funny. Enlightens you. Really teaches you and helps you understand how people do the things they do. Is NOT prejudice---people who say that are ignorant. Attendance is not required but you he gives random pop papers and each one you miss is minus 10 points off final grade. Gives bonus points for coming though. EXCELLENT!!!
This guy is awesome. He can be a little intense, but only if you are asking for it. Class is pretty easy. Just pay attention and take good notes. He is an ex-cop with a bit of an ego trip, but he is friggin funny.
LOVED HIS CLASS! He was a great teacher. His lectures are fun, but you need to pay attention and study for the tests. I miss his class!
Dr. Dwyer is my favorite professor. Study for tests! Be in class! Receive bonus points and attempt extra credit! Listen! Take notes! If you're at all like me, none of this will be a problem because the man is hilarious. Not to mention attractive. His confidence... wow.
Great teacher. Study.
Very amusing class. He always has something to say, whether you agree with it or not. He is a good teacher. His graduate student Chris is very helpful. The test are really easy if you take the time to study. Lets just say, take him, and come final time, you won't regret it! (sit on bottom rows)
Very interesting lectures daily...I didn't want to miss the class!!!
He does pop quizes on fridays. If you take notes "he makes them interesting" and skim over the chapter you will do fine on his tests.
Interesting professor. He knows his stuff thats for sure, and the lectures are pretty easy to follow. Just heed his warning and DO go to class everyday, the extra credit wouldn;t hurt either. Overall he is pretty easy. Just go to class and read your book.
Interesting class. Not an easy A class. He is very opinionated, but as long as you study the lectures everyday, you should be good. We have 5 pop quizes frm the previous lecture and 4 tests in all (including the final). Just attend class and go over lectures. Oh yeah.. he doesn't allow sleeping or eating.
Make sure you go to class (even though it's a class of 300 and attendance is not mandatory) because he gives out pop quizzes that can make or break you in the end. Up to 22 extra credit points for attending psychology studies. highly recommend doing them. Study the study guides for the and take good notes. Some things he says are inappropriate.
He was helpful, but little strict
awesome class. best professor ive had. very funny in class. dont leave or drink in class or he will punk you out. gives ton of extra credit. get all of them and study for exams and you will get a good grade. Nobody better than willy!!!!
Awesome teacher...lectures were interesting. Attendance wasnt mandatory but the tests come straight from the notes and he gives extra credit the day after tests and on days when no one shows. You gotta study but overall a good class to take.
He is a great professor. You can tell he loves his job. He is also funny and shares a lot of personal experiences. He is opinionated (not a bad thing). You have to study the book and the notes.Extra credit opportunities. He thinks in terms of behavior and consequences! I enjoyed him and would love to take another class from him! I learned a lot!
Dr. Dwyer was a great professor, however is very strict ( i.e., no cell phones, no walking in the middle of class).
I missed the final in 1200 1st time so I had Dwyer twice. His lectures are opinionated and the people who don't agree might say overstated. He covered the material well, tests were predictable. If you take him- go to class and pay attention. Even if you don't agree you will learn enough about psych to make other psych classes easier.
Dwyer is a nice man who loves to teach college students, you can tell in his lectures. he is a retired park ranger who is really strict on tardiness, eatting, and electronics. Attendence isn't mandatory, but you should come just to listen to him lecture. The class is big- about 400, but he keeps things in order for the most part.good class, take it
Dr. Dwyer is very arrogant. He gets his thrills by embarrassing students. He has a huge chip on his shoulder. Too bad he can't psychoanalyze his own issues.
Interesting class. 3 tests. Must do 3 hours of experiments. Chance for 10 points earned extra credit. Gave extra credit just for going to class. study HARD for the tests. sit in the front.
Very biased, rude, and his lectures are opinionated. You are on your own in reading the chapters. Many people failed. He thinks Psychology is the world and that it is dominate over other social/behavior sciences. If you are going to take Psychology take another class.Dwyer tries to be a comedian and a politician in the auditorium.
He makes psychology more than what it is. You can tell he thinks it is just as hard an important as Physics, Biology, Chemistry, and etc.He thinks psychology is a science and not a social/behavior science (which it actually is). Do not take this class for an easy "A". There are other easier classes out there if you need the credit.
He is a "ten-yeared" professor. He can almost say anything and not get fired.I am sure he was a good professor back then but a rude person now.Do not judge him from the early reviews on this website, look at the newer ones. You probably noticed that the newer ones are bad(they are true too).I personally thought he was a jerk.
Go to every class and take good notes. He says to buy the book, but most or all of the test is composed of notes from lectures (book is about 100 dollars used). Participate in research for extra credit and if you go to every class he will give more extra credit for everyone who attended, probably Friday.
Do not torture yourself with taking this class. All he cares about is weeding out those he believes are stupid. A quiz EVERY class so don't miss or your screwed. Lots of formulas and not very clear on how and where to use them. Its a combined class and lab and I saw the lab all of 5 times. JUST DON"T!!!
I would NOT advise taking his course. I would find a different professor. He doesn't care about your status. His tests are harder on the multiple choice than on the free response. Dwyer makes the multiple choice, the student aid makes the free response. There is a quiz EVERY day, so do NOT miss if it can be avoided. Again, I do NOT recommend him.
Does not take attendance, but you have to go to class for the notes. his tests come directly from his notes. Did not open the books!! easyyyyy class, just study. do the extra credit!! an A is not hard to make in this class. i recommend taking this class!!!!!
Dr. Dwyer is one of the best professors in the entire university. Students who are willing to learn and ask questions will say the same thing, too. The class was quite intense, so do not let yourself get bogged down. Attendance was not compulsory, although there were daily quizzes.
He's an okay professor , he just doesn't give good explanation or good examples to make what he states more clear.
Very touchy Will talk about the most offensive things but always has a valid point DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU FEEL STRONGLY ABOUT ANYTHING ONLY FOR THE OPEN MINDED very hard to keep up he moves fast and its all taking notes sit close and try to record class but do not text will take off 20% of your final grade
Dwyer is definitely the best teacher that i've had so far. I'm only a freshman, but his teaching methods are easy to follow and basically if you take notes, show up for class, and read you can get an "A". He is very real and blunt, so if you're not accustomed to hearing that kind of thing i recommend you stay away. . . yea, he's funny too.
I do not recommend taking this class as a Gen Ed AT ALL! Unless you have taken Psychology in High School or if you plan on majoring in Psychology. He only gives three tests the whole semester...that's it. You can receive extra credit though. He's a really fun teacher, you'll be entertained!
I absolutely loved this class. You have to STUDY STUDY STUDY from the time you get in the class up until the last day because he only gives 3 exams but they're fairly easy. Do ALL 10 extra credit opportunities also and come to EVERY class because he gives a few extra credit points for that as well, this will really help
Dwyer is AWEEESSSOOOMMMMEEE....because of dwyer im considering making psyc my minor....BUUTTTT! this is no easy class. STUDYING IS A MUST, ATTENDANCE IS A MUST! not that he takes off. but for yoiur benefit. HE IS HILARIOUS and you will absoulutely enjoy this class. EVERYTHING IS CRYSTAL CLEAR if you listen, take good notes, and read.
Dwyer is not a easy class and if you are lazy you will fail. But if you are willing to show up to class (not mandatory) and take good notes you will be fine. He is a amazing teacher, and the class is alot of fun. One word though: if you are easily offended take someone else. He isn't afraid of any topic and will tell you his opinion straight out.
For everyone who is giving him a low grade: Guys, this is college. If you can't read the chapters on your own, then don't blame him and say he's a bad teacher. The class is simple. Go to class, take notes, read the chapter, and go back over it usng the study guide. This man makes class fun, and if you aren't completely lazy you will love it.
Dwyer's class was fairly easy. We only had 3 exams and they all required you to STUDY! If you don't study then you're no doubt going to fail. He offers up to 10 extra credit points so that helps a bit. He's very sarcastic and not afraid to say what he feels. Don't ever leave early or we will embarrass you in a class of 435! Overall good class!
He is sooooo funny! I really enjoyed his class!
He's a funny professor who is serious about his class. His classes are all lectures, so take good notes. There are only three tests, so study because they're each 33% of your grade! He does offer some extra credit. Overall, great professor, but study for the tests.
I would advise you to be in attendance EVERYDAY. He randomly gives extra credit points for being there. The book isn't required in class but you will need it in addition to lecture notes to study for test. DO NOT TEXT, TWEET, ETC! He has people watching in class. There are only 3 test and no homework. You will need all the sonasystem points offered
Dwyer is a cool professor. He's serious about what he teaches. This is somewhat a easy class. Its best that you you attend class, if not you will miss out on material you need to know, but no mandatory. Quizes are based on the powerpoints he gives. Take notes, read the chapters in the book, attend class, and you should do well in the course.
Show up for class and read the chapters. He does not cover all the material in class so study the notes too. He is a great professor but there is no time for one on one attention so you are basically on your own. Make friends and form study groups.
Go to class, pay attention to what he says, take good notes. Go over vocabulary words for chapter. Know his notes almost word for word cause that's the test. Do that= easy A
He's a great professor. His class are all lectures. You should always come to class. Because he doesn't go by the book and he sometimes gives random points for coming to class. There are only 3 exams, no homework so pay attention and study. Be sure to check out the study guide as soon as possible. He isn't as hard as people make him out to be.
Easy! Sure if you don't want to come to class, study, pay attention, or take notes, then sure he is hard! But if you are actually a serious student then he is really easy, just come to class take notes and study... DUH! He is awesome though and alot nicer and easier than people try to make him seem! I hope I get to take him again, he is hilarious!
I really like Dr. Dwyer! He is entertaining and gives good examples of what he is trying to illustrate. I always look forward to his class! Just follow his rules and he won't make fun of you. His tests are pretty easy if you make study guides out of the study questions/terms he gives out. Great teacher!
ABSOLUTE FAVORITE TEACHER OF ALL! I changed my major because of him. He is engaging, charming, funny, highly intelligent and conveys information brilliantly! I hope I have to take him again!
He was absolutely my favorite teacher. I changed my major because of him. The subjects reviewed in class are interesting, and he's hilarious. Not afraid to be offend anyone. Tests can be pretty hard... I think 15 out about 280 had A's by end of class. But if you study and know the terms on the study guide, you should be fine. I recommend his class
He is a good teacher and is very direct. He gives extra credit just for coming to class everey other Friday. The only real way to make it in this class is to come to class, take great notes, read the book and study, seriously.
I loved this class! I sat in the third row which helped me stay focused and helped keep me interested in the subject. He doesn't give a flyin' flicker whether or not you come to class , but I definitely recommend going because on occasion he will give a bonus point for being there. It's by no means easy but come to class, study and you'll get an A
I couldn't standddd this man at first! He just came off as arrogant and condescending. Don't come to class late or even THINK about leaving early; he'll embarrass you in a class of about 400 people and won't care one bit about what he says or how you feel about it! I love him now though. Awesome, funny old man!
This class is not hard. Prof is very opinionated, and you so get a lot of "life lesson lectures" but he also really knows his stuff. GO TO CLASS AND TAKE GOOD NOTES! Seriously the exams come straight from the stuff he teaches, and he gives you study guides. Don't leave class early or come in late. He WILL embarrass you! Easy A/B if you try!
take him for stats 1!! he is so interesting and really knows his stuff. i made an A but it is not an easy class so study... have to come to every class for a quiz but it's really not bad. take him!
Go to class. Take notes. Study. Do all the extra credit you can. It is not impossible make an A in his class but you will have to work for it.
This class is exhausting. Don't overload yourself with other classes if you take this one. Study every night and go to class. There are daily quizzes which you must study for to ace. The book was not emphasized, but you will need the charts in it. I'm an A student and in two years this was my only B (an 87). Very upsetting, but I learned a lot.
Dwyer is a very interesting professor, he incorporates some comedy into his power-points, which keeps the class lively. However, there are only 3 tests, all of which are difficult. Study, A LOT and read the text book as well as your notes. Also, pay close attention to his rules and don't be late. . . HE WILL EMBARRASS YOU!
this old man does NOT play! he will embaress you if you come in late or leave early no joke. and dont even think about bringing food, gum or a drink in his class because you will lose a chunk of your grade. he is actually kinda funny but you need to study and read the book !
Taking his class is extremely difficult there are only 3 exams and no coursework very little extra credit and study sessions are very hard to catch if you have a lot of classes. He can be funny some days and other days he can be a big grump. This class requires heavy studying and attendance which isn't required(mass class)but very needed! NO JOKE
This class was very boring and the test were extremely hard whether you studied or not!!! He doesn't take role but it doesn't matter if you take every single note, its close to impossible to Ace this class!
I took this course for teacher license recertification (already had my BS degree). Out of all the profs I've ever had at the U of M, Dwyer is the best. Don't miss class, don't come in late, read the book, take copious notes, and act like you are a college student! Interesting and FUN.
THIS MAN WILL NOT PLAY AROUND WITH NONSENSE. One day I tried to sneak out to use the restroom and he embarrassed THE HELL out of me!! Don't do it!! Also, the lectures hold a lot of the answers to the test, it won't be realistic for you to copy everything so invest in a recorder or recording ink pen! Do the Extra Credit. Try!
Dwyer is actually a great professor. Attendance is not mandatory but it it's a good idea to attend his classes. He give extra credit when he feels like it he doesn't give homework or quizzes so the extra credit will help a lot. I would recommend him. I'm taking him again next semester too
Do NOT take for research & stats. He is rude and arrogant and doesn't really care if u learn or not. Quiz EVERY DAY.if u do take his assistant will be the best! She cares for students and doesn't mind going back over material with you if you put forth effort.
This teacher was by far my hardest. Whether you study for tests or not it is almost impossible to ace it.NO food or drink or leaving class early or he will embarrass you! He is interesting because he cracks a joke every now and then but I would NOT recommend him.
This class was probably my easiest all semester. Easy A. I honestly have no idea why people are complaining. Just come to class, take notes, study the study guides, and do all the extra credit & you should do fine. Dr. Dwyer is a great professor & I would definitely take him again. (He is very strict on class policies, though. No food, drink, etc.)
Dwyer does not give anyone a grade they don't deserve. Don't take his class if you're not willing to work hard, or if you're super sensitive. I enjoy his class. Beware if you leave early or come in late he will embarrass you. One of the best profs I've ever had. Tells it like it is.
Very cool. He is funny and has a great personality. When it comes to the actual class, it's only hard if you don't come to class, take good notes, and study. He gives study guides for every exam, and there's no actual final exam. I sat on the front row and did everything expected and I passed with an A. Only hard if you make it so.
Dwyer was amaze. His class is fairly easy because 95% of whats on the exams come from his lectures which are filled with wild, funny stories about life. I enjoyed him b/c he didn't just teach psychology,he applied it to everyday life, which made it amazing easier to understand. It's a class that I would not regret taking. He challenges you to think!
hard class.
He is a great professor and really funny. If you study and take good notes you will pass but if you don't you will fail. Pay attention to his lectures and show up to class because you never know when he will give extra credit. Also do not have you drink or cell phone in his class or he will deduct points!
my favorite professor and class this semester Had him for Intro to Psych. Hes tough but extremely funny I formed study groups to help make god grades on the tests They are really hard. Study! Buy the book! Come to class and read the book and take notes. tests come from both! Random extra credit for showing up!
Awesome professor. He only has three test over the semester with no homework. Going to class is important because his lectures make up most of his tests, but he makes everything really interesting and has some hilarious stories. So his class is actually pretty cool. As long as you go to class and review before the test, you'll be fine.
Dwyer was very clear from the beginning about what he expected. 3 tests and 4 SONA credits. No phones, fooddrink, sleeping, or talking. Do study guides and read the book. I make my own study guides with pretty much everything in the notes, that way I'm set to know everything on the test. memorizing isn't enough, you must use critical thinking.
His lectures were very boring, he did try to add his dry humor though. If you come to every class, and take notes you'll pass and won't need the book. All of the test material is covered in his lectures.
Test are hard
He covers 97% of test material in class. It is very important to take good notes, and not just over whats on his powerpoints. GO TO CLASS! You won't pass if you dont and sometimes he give extra credit. Also, get your SONA extra credit done early, and do it online (its easy). He will take points off final grade if you dont get the 4 required points.
Dr. Dwyer is a man full of knowledge. He will tell you right off the bat that half of the class will fail, and they will. If you sit at the front of the class, attend EVERY class, read the book, and study, you will pass. He is an awesome man, and I would take his class again!
Dwyer is one of my favorite professors! He said the first day that if you sat in the back you would fail, so I moved to the front and took good notes. His lectures have alot of information that you will need on the test, but breaks it up with some humor. He doesn't take any mess, he tells you what he expects the first day. I'd take him again.
i dont like him at all
Dwyer is excellent. He's straightforward, he knows his stuff and he gives every opportunity and encourages for his students to learn and succeed. Some people don't like the fact that he isn't shy with his opinions about certain topics but he relates it to the class material. He isn't arrogant, he just won't take any BS. He encourages questions.
Dwyer knows what he's talking about. I once called him the Donald Trump of U of M, because of his very...."honest" way about things. (aka how he said "f your opinion! i know what's up"). He doesn't hold back, even if people will get offended. But he's not preaching propaganda. He knows what he's talking about, and his lectures are very useful.
Start off by saying, if you can avoid taking Dwyer for anything, you should. 3 tests, 50 points each. I entered college with a 4.2 GPA and have all As or A+s in every other class but this one. His tests are near impossible to pass (I view passing as a B or better) and his lectures are irrelevant to PSYC. His opinion is the only opinion that counts
The way Dr. Dwyer teaches this class makes it very hard. Most of the concepts are easy to grasp. However, his lectures barley corresponded with his tests. I attended class every day but one. I had a 4.0 before this class and got a C on every test. I ended up getting a B.
Dr. Dwyer is a tough professor. Don't take this class if you're just trying to meet a gen ed requirement. Also don't take him if you get offended easily. He is actually really funny and a great professor. Very strict on food, drinks, sleeping in class, or having headphones in. If you actually follow rules and study, you'll be just fine.
If you want a good grade for this class you have to go to class, take notes, read the book, take advantage of the sona extra credit. He sometimes give extra credit after the test day. Always study ahead and try to sit close to him and not in the back.
Dwyer's cool. Don't take him if you're easily offended & won't go to class. He tells you to sit in the front or you won't pass. I sat in the back & have an A. Just take good notes, listen to his lectures, read the book, and you'll be fine. Do the sona extra credit too.
I loved Dr. Dwyer's class. He challenged us all to think critically and to think about the theory involved in Statistics. If you want to actually learn Statistics take Dr. Dwyer! If not.......
Dr. Dwyer is definitely a tough teacher. If you put in the effort, it's not impossible to get an A. Sit in the front because you wont get distracted by surroundings. Do the SONA extra credit because that can make the difference between an A and B. He will sometimes give random extra credit for showing up after a test. His lectures are interesting.
I just finished taking his class, he is an awesome teacher, although he is very blunt. He is the true definition of Real!! if you don't come, you wont fail you'll just have to read the book. The people on here that say he's hard are the ones who sit in the back, don't care and are re-takers. Take him, sit in the front, you'll love it!
Dr. Dwyer is one of the toughest professors I have ever taken at the U of M. He very much so believes he knows what is best for everyone and will speak his mind whenever he wants to. I won't take him for anymore PSYC classes because of his know-it-all attitude and lack of compassion for students.
You will have three tests in this course that make up your final grade. Although he does give you the chance to complete extra credit, if you do not do well on one of your tests it won't help you. If you need this class as a pre req, find another professor. You will learn more and overall have a better experience in the course.
I absolutely loved this class!!! He made the material so easy to understand. Would definitely take this class again.
Classes were ok but, his was the only answer. He was a know- it- all., seemed senile. Told us to sit in front or lose lots of points. This is no joke with him. Grading was malicious and the book must be read and reread to pass,. His lectures are required but, don't mean much. He is past retirement age. Do not expect extra help from him .
Dr. Dwyer is not only good looking in that wise college professor type of way, but he's a great teacher. He's tough, but fair. Don't skip class, and don't stereotype the guy. You'll learn a lot from him if you give him a chance. Every teacher has class rules, his are just more strict. Do as he says and your life will be easier, trust me.
Quiz every class, don't miss. Read the entire chapter every single night otherwise, you will fail. He would NEVER tell us what was on the quizzes! Be a quick note taker, and don't take photos or video of the lectures, he doesn't care how much it helps you study. He's rude and contradicting. Fair warning, DO NOT TAKE HIM!
This was the worst class I ever took. He even warned everybody to drop the class because nobody was really going to pass. I stayed in it and I am still regretting that decision because I failed. No lectures, thinks he knows it all, and will have no compassion. Please avoid to take him this is not the teacher you want!
