This is a teacher who really cares about his students and takes the time to help each one as an individual. Responds quickly to emails. Very positive approach and doesn't take himself too seriously. While I don't think 2 courses in comp are needed, I'm glad that at least this professor was fun.

Interesting man. I'm an English major and he has been my favorite teacher out of the entire department. He not only presents ideas differently in class, but also makes sure students (even those uninterested in literature) grasp his concepts. Very helpful with papers/tests, wants his students to succeed as writers.

Dr. Ellenberg has a great rapport with his students. He spits out rapid-fire witticisms that keep what would be a dull class interesting. I was skimming through a few profs for Fall, and I noticed only one rating for the Beats course. That's a shame. It was one of the best classes I've had a UNG. and I'm not an English major. Ellenberg clearly loves his job and the material and presents it in an animated and personal way. He's a really nice person who wants to motivate his students.

I missed Ellenberg's infamous "Beats" class last fall, so I took Faulkner. I'm glad I did. Here is a professor who knows his stuff, who presents it in a lively way, who challenges his students. Some of these novels were daunting, even to English majors, but Ellenberg led us through them with his keen observations, his knowledge, and his wit.

Doc Ellenberg has been one of my absolute favorite professors throughout my college career. He's helpful, insightful, and always ready to listen. He keeps class interesting through humor and wants to make sure his students genuinely understand the material. If you keep up with the reading and participate, you'll do great!

Dr. Ellenberg is a true scholar of Faulkner. He knows the material inside and out. He kept the discourse lively and made me feel comfortable responding to and asking questions. He's very witty which helped to keep the class from feeling burdened by the challenging material. If you are an English major, take a class from him!

This was a great class all around. It was small, so students felt less inhibited. I liked the selection of material, and I liked his approach. Some of the works were hard, but I understood them better by the end of class.

Really funny professor. Pretty easy A, and I'm not even a big fan of literature. Pay attention and take notes in class, though, because he let's you use those in class. Gives random pop quizzes that are very nit-picky, but who knows if he actually counts them. Also, dude really wanted a chili pepper, so that's why I'm giving him one.

Takes attendance. Tests are 2-4 questions, essay style. Writing does not have to be structured like with a thesis ect. Just answer the questions with proof from the text. Will give 100's. Quizzes are random. Sit in front and make yourself noticeable. Speak to him even if its not school related because participation matters.

Ellenberg clearly knows his material. He's very witty, but he uses that to keep the discussion energetic. He wants you to learn, but he realizes that his students are not English majors. All in all, a pleasant experience when I expected a dull class. Would take again.

Reading is mandatory, but it's a literature course so you should expect that. You will have to read all of Huckleberry Fin so be prepared. Ellenberg is honestly one of the best professors I've ever had. Don't get me wrong, he's a strange dude, but he's awesome. Super understanding and incredibly smart. Ask about his life- he's seen some crazy stuff

I had a love/hate relationship w/ Ellenberg. He's funny and has some cool stories to tell, so pay attention to what he has to say. 10% of the grade is participation, but he relies on like 4-5 people in the class to answer his questions. There are 4 essay-format exams, & he didn't grade them hard. As an english major, I didn't enjoy the class.

Dr. Ellenberg was different in a good way. His lectures involved a lot of personal stories that will leave you laughing for days. Would highly recommend and would take him again if I could. He had a great but strange sense of humor and I looked forward to his class everyday. He only gave 4 papers total; the final and 3 which were based on readings.

I'm sorry that Dr. Ellenberg is leaving UNG. He is a special person who makes even literature enjoyable. He explained things wonderfully. And he's funny as hell. I had been told to take his class by friends, and they were right. Best of luck to you Dr. Ellenberg, whatever you do! You
